The Death of a King(MT, OPEN, DIPLOMATIC)

Postby Banija » Sun Apr 03, 2016 10:45 am

Banija uses its own terms for positions like King, Prince, etc... The necessary translations are in my signature, so nobody gets confused

Press Conference outside of East Busukuma Christian Hospital

Kabaka Mugisha III's Chief of Staff holding a press conference outside of the hospital Banija's King was sent to

"Members of the press, people of Banija, and people of the world."

The Chief of Staff took a deep breath. This was an emotional moment for him. He was the Kabaka's right hand man for the last 10 years. He had seemed to be in good health. But, when one is 85 years of age, bouts like these become harder & harder to fight. He must pull together and make the announcement.

"I am very sorry to announce that Kabaka Mugisha III has officially been pronounced dead." Gasps echoed from all around the room. This was a big deal. The reigning Monarch of Banija, 30 years on the throne, had officially passed away. He had been generally in good health, but whenever a man at the age of 85 goes to the hospital, especially one who has to deal with the pressures & stresses of being a monarch, there is always a risk that it might turn for the worst. And, most unfortunately, for the Kabaka- or the former Kabaka now, it has taken a turn for the worst.

"As is always true in situations like this, our country must turn towards tradition. A private funeral will be held among family members, and then a nationwide period of mourning will begin. Of course, as we remember those who led us and literally gave everything, both in life & death, for their country and their people, we must begin preparations for a new monarch. As they say, the show must go on, and the Isebantu will be prepared to take his father's place. As is also tradition, the nation & the world will be invited to the coronation. The traditional elders and the Patriarch of Istria, who serves as the Primate of All-Banija, will be present at the ceremony.

Thank you for coming, and good night." The presswriters could not write fast enough. There would be a new man on top of the throne in the Kingdom of Banija, and for the first time in almost 30 years, Mugisha III would no longer reign over Banija.

To: Nations of the World

It is my sorrowful duty to inform everybody that Kabaka Mugisha III has died of a heart attack. He was 85 years old at the time of his death. He, as you know, was one of Banija's longest reigning monarchs. His death is a tragedy, and we are now in a period of national mourning. This is why all Banijan flags are being flown at half-staff until the inauguration of the new monarch. However, we invite everybody to the inauguration of the present Isebantu Albert, who is our Crown Prince, as the next Kabaka, or King, of Banija. We believe that we can use this opportunity to improve Banijan relations with our neighbors and other countries, both near & far, as we enter a new era for this great nation.

Of course, for diplomats, accomodation and appropriate security will be provided & guaranteed by the Kingdom of Banija. We hope to see you soon in Busukuma.

Chief of Staff to Kabaka Mugisha III

Royal Palace, city of Astoria

It was monday evening, the most boring time in the week. Each monday evening the crown council gave a VERY detailed report to the crown often for three hours and more.
"... and so your majesty we have a minor crisis in Kiel, about 100 refuges passing from the southern border." Senator Björn Larson finished his 10 minute monoloque about the 'national refuge crisis'.
" We will not deport them, gave them to Stockholm, they should have a few hundred spare places isn't that right Lundholm ?"
" Absolutely your majesty. However we have something on the table that requires a bit more time then the monoloque of my colleague over there. We have a international flare that should be picked up. Kabaka Mugisha III is dead..." A silent 'WHO ?' echoed through the chamber when Lundholm made a short pause before the King spoke.
" Kabaka Mugisha III of Banija yes I heard of him. He was an old men when I ascended to the throne and that was 20 years ago. I see that this concerns us however I believe that the foreign ministry can deal with that alone."
" Certainly we could but we could send a strong signal to Banija if we send someone to the funeral."
" A state visit ? At this time of political problems ? We have a growing socialist movement, a refugee crisis and a warmongering neighbor to the south east. I can't spare myself for something like that."
" I know and frankly I agree to this statement, you're daughter however she finished her mastery last month right ? She's eager for her first job and she will be wearing the crown one day."
" I don't know is a good first stop for her..."
" We will send Captain Sverinson with her, he knows her well, he's a of good standing and he's a soldier in you're regiment for over 4 years."
" Marie will join her as well." His voice didn't left much room for negotiations.
" Fine with me, she has experience and she didn't produced a scandal."
" Then it's decided. Anyone against the Visit ?"
No one of the 30 persons in attendance raised a hand, even Larson managed to contain himself, his opinion on foreigners was more then known to all persons present.
" They will board the plane in two days. Lundholm I think a small warning would be appropriate. After all we will have a high security detail."
Lundholm bowed respectfully. " As you wish you're majesty. Everything will be prepared by tomorow."

Four hours later a message arrived in the mailbox of Francis Basada:

official message from the Kingdom of Phoenixia
Priority high

Esteemed Mr. Basada,
it is my sad duty to send the condolences of his majesty. Kabaka Mugisha III was a respected leader and the world certainly lost one of the stronger leaders.
It's the wish of his majesty that a Phoenixian delegation shall attend the funeral to pay a last respect to the Kabaka. The delegation will include crown princess Christina Eirikson and her father insisted that we take additional security measures. That's a standard procedure for royal state visits and sadly not negotionable. She will be escorted by Captain Lucas Sverinson, seasoned veteran of the royal house regiment. All in all the delegation of the Crown Princess will include 10 persons including 2 aids for the Crown Princess and a translator.
We will await you're confirmation on the details.
sincerely
Hon. Sir Alexis Lundholm
Minister for foreign affairs
City of Astoria
Kingdom of Phoenixia

Royal Palace in Busukuma

Francis Basada was scrambling, making the last-second arrangements for this funeral. He was tasked with getting as many people as possible to come to the funeral. This, of course, would be his last act as the Chief of Staff for the Head of the Royal Family. Once Isebantu Albert assumed the throne, he was almost assured to pick his own Chief of Staff, as was tradition. Of course, right now, technically Francis Basada was Chief of Staff to nobody, as the Isebantu had not assumed the throne, and the old Kabaka was dead.

He had gotten responses from three different nations so far. He thought that he was doing well so far- nations that Banija had lots of respect for were sending their condolences for the death of the Kabaka. Republican nations as well as other Monarchies sent their condolences to a nation that was mourning the loss of their King, and wanted delegations to witness the beginning of the reign of the next Kabaka of all of Banija. He knew that Mugisha III would've wanted to work with other countries and use the opportunity to showcase Banija, so Basada would make sure that everybody would feel extremely welcome upon their eventual arrival in Banija's capitol of Busukuma.

To: President Johgs of Pillowlandia

As a nation, Banija would like to thank you for taking the time to extend your condolences to our country. We are glad that our differences in government can be respected, and we are excited for the arrival of any Pillowlandian delegation to the funeral of Mugisha III, and the coronation of Isebantu Albert as the next Kabaka of Banija.

To: The Royal Court of Elredras

Banija thanks you, as a nation, for taking the time to extend your condolences about the tragic death of Kabaka Mugisha III. And I personally thank all of you to, as I worked with Mugisha III for very many years, and am glad that, even in death, members in high places in nations such as yours take the time to remember our monarch. We will gladly accept a delegation from your nation to visit Banija, and we are excited for their arrival in Busukuma.

From: Francis Basada
Chief of Staff to Kabaka Mugisha III

To: Sir Alexis Lundholm
Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Phoenixia

Minister Lundholm, we accept your condolences as we grieve the loss of Mugisha III. I do truly believe that he was a great man, as he led this nation well with a strong hand, and he made a great difference for ordinary Banijans. We, of course will accept a Phoenixian delegation from your Royal Family on behalf of the King of Phoenixia. It is of the utmost importance, in the opinion of many members of this Royal Family, that royal families should always keep in close contact with each other, and support each other whenever possible. We would be most willing to host Crown Princess Christian Erikson and Captain Lucas Sverinson, alongside the rest of the Phoenixian delegation. We are excited for them to arrive at Busukuma, and Banijan security forces will be instructed to work alongside Phoenixian security forces. We understand security, especially for members of the Royal Family, is of the utmost importance, and we will do whatever we can to make sure your delegation can feel safe while they are in Banija.

OOC: I want to apologize for hesitating so long to reply to your thread. I had four exams to handle (I am finishing college in May) and several RL commitments to address before I got around to posting.

IC:

April 4, AD 2016
1110 hours local time

Office of the Right Honorable Frank Carter
Fifth floor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building
Chalcedon, Capital District
Imperial Federation of the Monavian Empire
Nova

From the Monavian government’s perspective, news of the untimely demise of Mugisha III represented a textbook case of a “bolt from the blue”—in other words, the king’s death was a tragic surprise that Monavian officials did not anticipate. Within twenty-four hours of the announcement, Monavian Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank Carter found himself uncapping a fountain pen to draft condolence letters to both the late monarch’s heir and former chief of staff. He began by addressing the latter, spending just under ten minutes drafting the text on plain copy paper (which he later shredded) and then wrote out a finalized draft on his official stationery.

The Honorable Francis Basada
Royal Chief of Staff
Kingdom of Banija

April 4, 2016

Mr. Basada:

Earlier today my office received word of the unfortunate and widely-mourned decease of your venerable sovereign Mugisha III. Though neither my office nor my government at large has previously become acquainted with the details of His Majesty’s reign, I pray that his government will continue to peacefully endure under the rule of his heirs and successors. With this in mind, I further offer you my condolences on behalf of the Monavian government and the nearly half-billion souls it represents.

Sincerely,

Frank Carter
Minister of Foreign Affairs

With the letter to the late monarch’s chief of staff completed, Carter prepared a second letter for the crown prince who was soon to take the throne.

His Royal Highness Isebantu Albert
Crown Prince of Banija
Kingdom of Banija

April 4, 2016

Your Royal Highness:

Earlier today my office received word of the unfortunate and widely-mourned decease of your venerable father Mugisha III. Though neither my office nor my government at large has previously become acquainted with the details of your late father’s reign, I am presently moved to offer you and your loved ones my condolences on behalf of the Monavian government and the nearly half-billion souls it represents.

My present service as a minister of the Royal Cabinet has enabled me to witness firsthand how the weight of governing a kingdom adds nothing but additional gravity to the already onerous burden of bereavement. With this in mind, I further offer Your Royal Highness my prayers that you will enjoy ample opportunities to equal or exceed your late father’s achievements in the days ahead.

Sincerely,

Frank Carter
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Once both letters were finished, Carter had his secretary look up the fax numbers for the Banijan monarch’s residence so that he could load the letters into a secure fax machine and sent images of the documents to their intended recipients.
