the saga of the Azmiri Crusade
Cadenza was a prosperous merchant republic in those days, as now, and remarkable for the peaceful coexistence of its Christians alongside heathen Thaerinists. This toleration did not extend to other nations, as the Azmiri people had come to learn. In the late 12th and early 13th centuries, the Knights of Saint Misrav had been called on to defend the Cadenzan missionaries in Azmir. They had done so and more, carving out their own territory and defending it savagely with fire and sword. The headquarters of their order in Azmir lay in the great city of Tyarz, whose mighty citadel was seen as impenetrable. The strength of its garrison had weakened substantially by 1301 AD, but the thick walls and deep moats remained as forbidding as they ever had.
The Duchy of Kur'zhet had once been ruler over much of western Azmir, but those times were long past by 1301 AD. Staunch resistance by the rulers of Azmir had gradually driven the Kur'zheti border back to the coast, and although its territory expanded and contracted in the centuries that followed Kur'zhet had never returned to its earlier position of dominance. For this they largely blamed their Cadenzan neighbours, who had spent many a year crusading on the island of Kur'zhet and undermining their rival's power at every opportunity. The Kur'zheti had been pushed to their limit by the Cadenzans, and they were willing to do anything to regain their rightful place as the great power of the southwest.
The Fall of Tyarz in September 1301 did not simply upset the delicate balance, it destroyed it and sparked forty years of war. For Marquis Periax II of Azmir and Governor Hriek of Savrit, revenge was at hand. For Saleb Resis of the Misravic Order at Tyarz, revenge was his sole desire.
❧This roleplay follows the events of the first phase of the Azmiri Crusade, which ran from 1301 to 1305 as Saleb Resis pursued his personal need for vengeance. It begins shortly after the Fall of Tyarz and continues on 'til whenever, really.

❧The following map depicts the state of the west Azmiri states in 1300. By the time of this RP, Tyarz and most of the territory northwards belonging to the Cadenzans and Knights of Saint Misrav is either in Azmiri possession or under dispute.
