An EM drive, also known as a Radio Frequency Resonant Cavity Thruster, could allow for such long duration trips with minimal mass and could possibly make the journey take as little as 20-30 years, depending on the advancement of the drive and the amount of electrical power provided to the drive.

Again, I must point out that this drive would have to be very mature in design. It would easily take us hundreds of years to even approach a design making such a trip feasible. And you'd have to be accelerating basically the whole time. Which requires lots of energy. Meaning you have to stick nuclear reactors onto this thing. Increasing the mass. And requiring a yet more powerful engine. And this is just to reach Alpha Centauri, which has no planets of note or worth colonizing. It's the closest solar system to us. The more interesting ones are 40-50 times further away.

The difference is the EM drive requires almost no fuel to operate and is currently being tinkered with by NASA, the Chinese, and other space agencies. It looks very promising, despite the controversy. Besides, it is the 26th Century. Leave your 21st Century technology behind.

No amount of technology can overcome Conservation of Energy. You will always need to lose something in order to move. Always some amount of energy. And to hold the energy needed, you will always need mass. Unless, of course, you want to send postcards instead of people.

Consolidating their assets and trying to revive their respective countries economies, they soon encountered a problem. Following rampant population growth and unsupervised immigration, space was starting to run out in each of the small nations. To the Chairman of the Cooperative there was only one path they could take, using the nearly requisitioned assets purchased from a dying Chinese space program, the newly formed Kagesai Aeronautics began construction on an elevator that would take the Kagesai Cooperative to new heights. With the governments of each nation thoroughly grateful and thus, around the cooperatives finger, the two nations were effectively taken over by Kagesai representatives. Using rare materials from Africa and oil from the middle east, the space elevator was finally finished, greatly reducing the costs of launching things into space and giving the Cooperative a foothold into the interstellar competition.
With the launch of the Corporations first lunar and martian missions, the Cooperative had become the first privately owned company to land on another extraterrestrial body. As the first colonies on the moon and mars got underway, the company realised the need for a force to protect itself. Long being the leader in A.I projects and robotics, the Cooperative had soon fabricated itself an army. With more and more people moving to the colonies and additional space elevators being constructed, the Cooperative has started expanding further and further away from our planet to exploit the plentiful resources to be had at places such as Mercury, Jupiter and the Asteroid belt.
