“No one won the last war, and no one will win the next war.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

For what may seem a peaceful, small nation, Dagelia has always been a thorn to its western, much larger and powerful neighbour, the United Socialist Republics of Stasnov. Dagelia as a nation has a past with the Socialist country. After being annexed by the Second Stasnovan Empire in the medieval times, Dagelia had always been a rebellious province of the Empire, as well as the Imperial Federal Republic that succeeded it, with its populace rebelling against the Imperial Throne numerous times. After the Communist Stasnovan Revolution of 1919, Dagelia was granted independence as a new Socialist Nation, the People’s Republic of Dagelia. What followed was a 76-year long era of Socialist prosperity, under the guidance and protection of Stasnov.

However, in 1993, ethnic tensions between the local Dagelian and Stasnovan populations in the western parts of the nation began erupting all across Western Dagelia. The Dagelian National Party, an illegitimate radical right-wing organization, inspired by the exploits of the Bratislavian Revolution, as well as other anti-Communist revolutions, took advantage of the traditional “hostility” between the Stasnovan and Dagelian peoples to promote its nationalist and reactionary agenda, claiming that the Socialist government of Dagelia was a “puppet of the foreigners”, who were both Stasnovan and Communist. The National Party managed to spread its influence into the military, and in 1994, a coup d’etat was launched by the nationalists, who stormed the government buildings and slaughtered everyone in their path. The coup forces were led by General Gujar Kurashvili.

The short-lived junta that was established by Kurashvili handed over power to their ally, Davit Giorgadze and his National Party. Giorgadze established a semi-presidential republic, and so, the Republic of Dagelia. Despite claiming to be democratic, Giorgadze has been the country's president since 1995, though allegedly rigged elections. Giorgadze continued a number of Junta-era policies, such as a neo-liberal approach to the economy, something that has severely increased the gap between the richest and poorest citzents of the nation. Elections under Davit Giorgadze have been widely criticized as being unfair, and according to many countries and organizations, political opposition has been violently suppressed. Giorgadze's regime is also believed to have also committed several humar rights violations.

Giorgadze and his henchmen have kept all opposition at bay for their first years in power, however, since 2003, the South Zevgorian People's Front, a Socialist/Leftist, pro-Stasnovan/Vastava Pact political and military movement within the breakaway Dagelian province of South Zevgoria (with a notable Stasnovan population), has waged a guerilla conflict against the government, with Stasnovan diplomatic help, that is believed to also have extended in material support. The SZPF is led by Leonid Kapanadze. Under the leadership of the SZPF, the People's Republic of South Zevgoria is formed. South Zevgoria has since then been engaged in a standoff with the central Dagelian government, that seeks to retake the province from rebel hands. The last armed clashes ended in 2005, after a ceasfire was signed. The conflict between Dagelia and the Stasnovan-backed South Zevgorian People's Front has been the reason of a serious decrease of Stasno-Dagelian relations in the years following the 2003 separatist uprising. The Stasnovan government has claimed numerous times that any acts of war against South Zevgoria will be treated as an act of war against the Stasnovan poeple there, and in turn, Stasnov itself.

From the forest-covered landscape in the south, to the open fields and hilltops in the north, Dagelia is a country of many beauties. The vast snow covered forests are complemented by the majestic mountains, canyons and vast fields in between them. The traditional small villages on the hills and mountains, overlooking the area around them, always attracted tourists from all over the continent and the region in general. The Medieval forts and ancient tombs and settlements scattered around the country also caught attention. Rivers also cross the countryside, through the canyons and forests, making for magnificent views from elevated areas. The country had generally attracted many foreign tourists, especially from nations of the Vastava Pact, during its Socialist era. However, while tourism was a major part of its industry, Dagelias riches have always lied in the mineral-rich mountains in the northwestern part of the nation. During the People’s Republic era, Dagelia exported various rare minerals to nations such as Stasnov, who in return ensured the nation’s prosperity. However, that’s all over now. The tourist attractions lie in disrepair and numerous mines in the western mountains have been abandoned. Dagelia has entered another conflict, for it has woken the bear.

Militia Checkpoint B2, Outskirts of Sanibovo, People's Republic of South Zevgoria
October 3, 2015
1800 hours

As per usual in South Zevgoria during this time of the year, the weather was cloudy and well....rather depressing. For the soldiers serving in the South Zevgorian People's Front's various militia brigades and battalions, it was nothing but a regural day on their checkpoints and stations. No fighting with Dagelian troops was recorded since 2005, and the conflict with Dagelia was almost forgotten. Joinning the milita nowdays almost guaranteed a peacful service, barring some engangements with bandits and thiefs, left behind by the years of chaos and corruption before the separatist uprising. It was quiet, but the sounds of distant thunder echoed through the light, cold breeze. Just the usual day in a South Zevgorian militiaman's routine.

The small residential building that housed the soldiers manning the checkpoint was an old residential two-storey building located on one of the highways passing through the mountains and leading to the city of Sanibovo, the smallest city of South Zevgoria. It was nothing special, but the militiamen took good care of it. It was their home. Lieutenant Dimitar "Zvigeni" Dongvani was the commanding officer of the platoon that manned the checkpoint today. He and his men were part of the "Krolik" Brigade of the South Zevgorian militia, that was stationed in a milita camp in Sanibovo. Zvigeni sat on a wooden chair in the house's living room, smoking a Stasnovan papirosa cigarette. One of his men was peacfully sleeping on the couch near him.

The light breeze filled the house as Private Nikolai Izhutin, a young militiaman of Stasnovan origin, entered the building from the main door, closing it sharply behind him. He wore one of the new digital flora uniforms that were and are being supplied to the militia by Stasnov, though his BDU was still of old age. He wore a camoed skull cap instead of his service cap. He was just a kid, no more than 18-years old. Zvigeni knew the boy's story. His father promised him that if he served in the milita for one year or so, he'd let him go study law in Vastava. Nikolai had almost finished his service, with just less than one mothing remaining until he gets discharged. During the boy's service, Zvigeni had become a protector and guide to him, and Nikolai always returned the respect. He liked the young man.

The boy saluted "Tovarishch leytenant!" he spoke in Stasnovan "The trucks have arrived"

He was referring to the monthly convoy of trucks that brough supplies from Stasnov into the city. Despite the peaceful period since 2005, supply chanes within South Zevgoria could not be established effectively as bandits and in rare occasitons, pro-Dagelian militas still roamed the countryside, ambushing and stealing from commercial trucks. Foreign companies wouldn't expand to South Zevgoria, because of the Dagelian reaction. Thusly, the transportation of much needed goods to Dagelia was largerly depending to Stasnovan convoys, that bandits and marauders never touched, fearing Stasnovan retaliation.

Zvigeni nodded and stood up "Let's go check 'em out then" he said playfully and exited the house with Nikolai following him. The first drops of an impending downpour hit his face as he gazed at the grey clouds above. He tossed what remained of his papirosa to the dirt. The men should get their raincoats he thought. Just then, the young soldier brought him his raincoat. He thanked him with a smile. The numerous trucks of the convoy were standing idle at the checkpoint, waitting for permission to drive into the city. As he walked towards the trucks, it had began properly rainning. He approached the lead truck from the dirver's window. The dirver lowered the window.

"Hey there" said the dirver with a thick Astrakhanskayan accent.

"Hey" replied Zvigeni "Papers" he said sharply

The driver handed him the papers, and Zvigeni quickly looked through them. Evertything seemed to be in place. He handed the papers back to the dirver.

"You're cleared, move along"

The driver nodded and started the engine again. Some moments later, the convoy was moving again, speeding off towards the city. As the trucks drove by him, he saw young Nikolai standing some metres next to him, talking to some of the other militiamen in the checkpoint, with his AKM slinged. The boy smiled when he noticed the much older officer looking at him. Just as he returned the smile, Zvigeni heard something form above. It sounded like a loud scream, that almost covered the sound of rain. He knew what it was.

In a moment's notice, Nikolai, still with a smile on his face, as well as the men he was discussing with dissapeared in a cloud of smoke and dirt when an artillery shell hit the road some metres next to them. Screaming reports of incoming artillery and orders to take cover filled the air. Shells began landing all over the area, muffling the sound of the downpour. Some trucks were hit, exploding into balls of fire and thick black small. Zvigeni, with all the power he had, starting crawling where he saw Nikolai standing for the last time. More shells turned this peaceful outpost into a hell on earth. He hoped with all his heart to see Nikolai there, alive. After some moments that seemd to be a century, Zvigeni reached the spot. What he saw made him turn pale. The bodies of three or four militiamen were lying torn apart in some metres next to a pile of sandbags. And then he saw him. The boy lied on the body of one of his fallen comrades. More shells landed around. Zvigeni grabbed him and turned him around to see his face. A large chunk of shrapnel was nailed to the back of his head. His once lively blue eyes were now staring the grey sky, empty, cold. Zivgeni left the boy's body alone, and rested his back on the sandbags. He looked at the sky. The sounds of shells falling and exploding was defeaning. He had a hard time breating. A moment later, he couldn't breathe at all. Only then did he realise the blood pouring from his neck.

In a shocking public report at 1900 hours today, the Dagelian Ministry of Defence announced that "the Dagelian military began the military operation for establishment of constitutional order in South Zevgoria". This report came after a massive Dagelian artillery barrage hit South Zevgoria. The Stasnovan Commissariat of Defence estimates that multiple field and self propelled artillery batteries, as well as MLRS units took part in the barrage. The strike started at 1800 hours yesterday, and all major cities of South Zevgoria were targetted, namely the capital of Chekhavali, Bidzina and Sanibovo, as well as smaller ones like Mienta and Kokoity. Only the small city of Dgornya appears to have not been hit by the barrage, that went on for eight hours straight. The barrage claimed the lives of 478 people all across South Zevgoria, most of them civilians. The number of wounded people is yet unclear, though it is estimated to be double to that of the dead. Brigadier General Ivan Yamadayev, commander of the unified South Zevgorian armed forces, has reported that about 110 South Zevgorian fighters were killed in the barrage, with 158 non-fatal casualties counted. It was also reported that the barrage also hit Stasnovan supply convoys.

Brigadier General Yamadayev also reported that the Battalions "Lisa", "Akula" and "Izgoy" have been issued an emergency mobilisation order to combat the Dagelian invaders. These three battalions number slightly over 2,500 men in total, a force significantly weaker than the estimated 20,000 Dagelian Land Forces troops currently taking part in the ground offensive, and are also significantly outgunned. It was reported that Dagelian paratroopers have jumped within South Zevgoria, and are currently engaged in combat with the local militias, while up to four Brigades worth of troops attacked South Zevgorian border outposts, overwhelming them and they are currently advancing towards major Zevgorian cities, with the first skirmishes around the capital of Chekhavali reported four hours ago. A number of villages have also quickly fallen to Dagelian hands The Dagelian forces consist mainly of Mechanised and Infantry units, along with numerous artillery batteries, as well as paratroopers from the Light Infantry Brigades of the Dagelian Land Forces. What is interesting is the participation of paramilitary units in the Dagelian invasion, such as Interal Ministry Special Forces companies, National Guard battalions, as well as alledged foreign volunteers.

The Stasnovan Commissar of Defence, Mr. Alexander Lebedev, made an address to the public today, issuing an official declaration of hostilities with the Dagelian government. This is what he said in his laconic announcement: "I, Commissar of the Defece of the United Socialist Republics of Stasnov, Alexander Mikhailovich Lebedev, herby declare an official iniatiation of hostilites between Stasnov and the Republic of Dagelia, due the the latter's unjustified invasion of the sovereign state of the South Zevgorian People's Republic, to enforce its will on the local population. The Stasnovan military has mobilised and it will enter South Zevgoria to help repell the Dagelian invading forces." It was later confirmed the the units that will take part in the operation will come from the Western Military District, and the 27th Guards Army specifically.

Kaluga pledges Military Support to South Zevgoria

Following Yesterday's outrageous Attack by Dagelia on South Zevgoria, The President of the Socialist Federation of Kaluga has pledged military support to the geograhically stunning nation. Speaking today, President Dragovich of the Federation had this to say.

"What has occurred in the past 48 hours on South Zevgoria's soil is an example of how low the Devgorian Regime has fallen. Ordering Deliberate Attacks on Civilians, especially at this level of casualties, is the sign to all other nations that the Devgorian Government in question is a Totalitarian, Inhuman cesspool of Barbarity and Ruthlessness. We Stand with the South Zevgorian Government against this despicable crime against Humanity, and we call on the International Community to take action against them."

---

Cinigrad, October 4th 6:09 PM

"Sir, it's confirmed. The South Zevgorian Front has boiled over into war. As per your instructions, the Forces we assembled for this eventuality have mobilised." An aide said, speaking to the Kalugan President himself. President Nikita Dragovich, as of this point 57 years old, looked at the information in the pamphlet and frowned. "Knowing the Roskians and other nations, they'll use this conflict as an excuse to set up a power base on the Vastava Pact's doorstep. This cannot be allowed to happen. Send in our assembled Forces. Have several Strike Battalions and Supporting units wait inside Kaluga as reserves. We'll send the first wave through Stasnov, and send in the others if things go to hell. Relay this to General Dmitri Sokolov at once."

At the same time as the Kalugan Declaration of Military Support to South Zevgoria, the 125th Strike Battalion and the 15th Artillery/AA Battalion entered Stasnov, en route to the Temno Tunnel. At the same time, the 27th Airborne Company and two Airborne Battalions geared up for their foray into Combat.

Federal Republic of Roski
Presidential Palace, Russo
President of the Federal Republic of Roski
Situation Room
37 Minutes after Dagelian Artillery Strike

The president nearly literally had to be dragged away from the Russo FC-Beruit United match playing on his screen in his room. Russo was pounding BU into oblivion, with a 5-1 score and still twenty minutes left. The President, after several minutes of protest, finally put on more formal clothing and went to the Situation Room.

Upon entering the Situation Room, he noted that the tension was thicker than solid titanium. A bit uneased by this, he sat at his head chair, addressed all of the joint-chiefs of staffs by name and asked them all to sit. He was handed roughly typed notes that he didn't quite understand.

He looked around before speaking, "Can anyone explain this to me plainly?"

The Secretary of Defence rose, "The Dagelians hit South Zevgoria with artillery strikes. Damage unclear. We were offered no warning other than a cryptic message, and our reports so far are from social media. We also know that Dagelia has outright invaded Zevgoria."

"Are those the rebels that were aided solely by Stasnov and literally only Stasnov won?"

He nodded.

"Very well, organize an assistance force. Those fucking rebels were going to come back anyway."

"Sir, we believe Stasnov will get involved with the conflict."

"Well, shit," exclaimed the president, but he avoided the sarcastic response he was going to give, "what are the fire control solutions we have on Stasnov?"

"In short term, none. Long term, we can stack the border. Our biggest concern is that will look like unnecessary provocation, and we don't want to escalate a low intensity conflict to world war proportions. However, that's the conventional response. We could prepare a nuclear strike across the entire Vastava Pact, most of them won't know what hit them."

The President's face when from partially excited to downright serious. "Nuclear escalation is not an option for this conflict. Period. End of Story."

"We should prepare our SLBMs for any form of retalitory strikes Mr. President, we can't let them get away with it."

"Do we not have ground and aerial superiority over the Stasnovans?"

"We do but-"

"Then its clear, we fight on the ground. Nuclear escalation over something so petty, I don't want to have Genocide in my legacy because I got nuke-happy over a small conflict."

"Mr. President, its nee-"

"If the Stasnovans attack Roski directly, and I do not respond to the submarines within two hours of the invasion, you have my go ahead to nuke Vastava nations. Until then, you do not have the authorization to even think about a nuclear attack, do I make myself clear?"

The Secretary of Defence nodded.

"Now, how can we respond reasonably to the conflict?"

"We can send a special operations group, or a brigade. These both would outnumber any Stasnovan response, if it is within reason, and the operation group should be able to fight off three or four Stasnovan divisions easily."

"What brigades can we send?"

"We can send the 104th Infantry Brigade or the 22nd Armored Brigade. The latter has Liberator IIs, to which Stasnov has no response to yet."

"Mobilize them, do not enter until Stasnov attacks. This way I can go off and say we defended our ally instead of attacked our enemy."

The Secretary of Defence nodded.

"Dismissed!"

22nd Armored Brigade
2 Hours after Stasnovan retaliation

"Dmitri, do you have the equipment?"
"Yes, it is in the RAV-9A2 over there," he said, pointing at one with forest splinter camo. They had literally hundreds of RR-16s and RP-2002s to hand over to the Dagelian forces.

After the reports of a Stasnovan Retaliation were confirmed, they entered their vehicles and traveled over the border. As they approached the first town, they announced over speakers, "WE ARE THE ROSKIAN FEDERAL ARMY, WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST YOU!"

The Roskians were going to play a slightly laid back role for awhile, trying to keep the Stasnovans at bay in South Zevgoria, before actually entering South Zevgoria and retaking the country. They wouldn't engage the Stasnovans unless they crossed into what the Stasnovans felt was actually Dagelian territory, and this could allow Dagelia to continue offencively while Roski held back the Storm.

BBC HOMEPAGE

Violence erupted in South Zevgoria last night as Dagelian artillery batteries opened fire across the border, targeting cities throughout the region and killing hundreds of South Zevgorians. Initial reports suggest 478 people have been killed by the attack so far, 110 of them members of the South Zevgorian People's Front military.
SOUTH ZEVGORIA CONFLICT
  • 1994: Dagelian nationalist coup secures independence from Stasnov
  • 1995: President Giorgadze takes power
  • 2003: South Zevgorian People's Front launches guerilla campaign against Dagelia
  • 2004: Republic of South Zevgoria formed
  • 2005: Ceasefire signed between Dagelia and SZRF
  • 2015: Dagelia launches artillery strike against South Zevgoria
South Zevgoria contains a majority of ethnic Stasnovans, and tensions between the Stasnovian and Dagelian populations have been high ever since 2003, when the South Zevgorian People's Front launched its campaign against the Republic of Dagelia.

In response to the attack the Commissar of Defense for Stasnov, Mr. Alexander Lebedev, issued the following statement earlier today:

"I, Commissar of the Defece of the United Socialist Republics of Stasnov, Alexander Mikhailovich Lebedev, herby declare an official iniatiation of hostilites between Stasnov and the Republic of Dagelia, due the the latter's unjustified invasion of the sovereign state of the South Zevgorian People's Republic, to enforce its will on the local population. The Stasnovan military has mobilised and it will enter South Zevgoria to help repell the Dagelian invading forces."

The Witenagmot has yet to offer comment on the situation. Intervention is considered unlikely, as Stasnov is not a close ally of Brytene, and the Witenagmot is expected to release a statement later today on the conflict in Acrary.

Castle Oakhall, Brytene

Cenwulf Teorell was not in the mood for this meeting, but it had to be done. His Witenagmot, back to full strength, were gathered around the large oaken table, inlaid with computer screens which displayed a variety of updates and information about the Dagelian-Zevgorian conflict. Uhtred of Deepdale, his most trusted companion, was leaning forwards, speaking urgently.

"Chief, you know we have to get involved in this. Stasnov could handle it given time, yes, they've no shortage of manpower or ability, but the longer this thing drags on the more likely Roski are to get involved, and with their propensity for waving nuclear weapons around, nobody needs that."

He leaned back in his seat, reaching for a goblet of water as he continued. "Besides, the mines in that area are incredibly valuable. It'd be far better for us to see them back under Stasnovan control than handed to the Roskians. Stasnov might even throw a little mineral our way on mates rates if we help them out."

Kenwine the Grey coughed and spluttered as Uhtred took a sip of water. No-one missed the look of contempt the young Nortymban shot the aging West Saxon, other than Kenwine himself.

"Sire, surely you cannot be thinking of sending soldiers to join in this absolute mess of a warzone. Our soldiers' mere presence would be inflammatory, and what do we really stand to gain? No, better to let them fight it out amongst themselves. We have more pressing concerns, and this flame is unlikely to scorch us."

Cenwulf waved them both to silence, staring at the tactical maps. They were out-of-date, meaning that they'd have to rely on Stasnovan intelligence if they were to pitch in on this. After a long pause, during which Uhtred and Aoife exchanged significant looks and Kenwine coughed phlegm into his handkerchief, Cenwulf raised his shaggy head and spoke.

"We'll not wade in, not publicly. This is too much of a mess for Brytene to touch with a bargepole. But behind closed doors, I plan to send a team of R-DARK operators. We need this to end quickly, with minimal loss of life, before those damned Roskians get their hands on the Stasnovan mines or, even worse, decide it's time to hit the Big Red Button and irradiate half of the tundra."

Before Kenwine could object further, the Bretwalda pressed a button on the intercom. "Sandra, could you get Admiral Botas here as soon as possible? And Commissar Hood, please."

28km outside of Chekhavali, South Zevgoria

Centurion Salary, more commonly known as 'Truck' to his squad members, was nervous too. His unit were aboard a Skeleton aircraft heading over Stasnovan territory. In fact, the loadmaster had just come by to tell them that they were now over the border and into South Zevgoria.

The mission had been a rush-job. They had only finished the brief mid-flight, a fast but draining haul across to Stasnov, where they had refuelled and reoriented. It seemed that South Zevgoria was under attack by Dagelia, with the potential for the conflict to escalate into a stand-off between Stasnov and Roski. The Admiralty, in their infinite wisdom, had decided that a quick end to this conflict was in order, preferably in Stasnov's favour, and so a scratch team of eight TOGFOR operators had been assembled under the command of Centurion Salary. He had not led an overseas operation solo until today, and whilst he was confident of his own ability and that of his squad, he still felt the weight of responsibility settle like a stone in his guts.

James Salary was nicknamed 'Truck' by his comrades - not for his physical size, which was unremarkable for a special-forces grunt, but for the effect he had on people who got in his way. Those people get run down. He was of medium height, around six feet, with a wiry muscularity and a thick beard. He'd joined the forces just as that kind of thing became popular, in the early 2000s, but his eyes bore the crows-feet typical of one who spent a lot of time outdoors, squinting. He did not go in for the wraparound shades or the backwards baseball caps - his vision was perfect, of which he was proud, and he knew that the difference between life and death could be that tiny tint in the lens, the tint which obscured a far-off shooter or threw off his depth perception.

His team was a good one. Seven men and women from across Brytene, including two second-generation Stasnovans, one of whom spoke a passable imitation of the Dagelian dialect. There were no Dagelians themselves in Brytene - the Confederacy was rich in immigrants, but typically from friendly or allied nations. His team were all light infantry at heart, trained to move fast and quietly over tough terrain, operate independently, and to take the initiative whenever they could. Their mission was simple - slow and frustrate the Dagelian assault via sabotage or attack, and if possible degrade or eliminate the command structure, allowing the Stasnovan regular forces to annihilate the invasion without escalating the conflict.

A light and alarm flickered on simultaneously, indicating that they were approaching the drop zone. He nodded to Lieutenant Lutyanka, her face obscured by the drop gear, and they moved to take up drop positions...

The Temno Tunnel, literally the "Dark Tunnel" in Stasnov, was one of the quickest ways for the Stasnovan military to enter South Zevgoria. Temno tunnel, with a length of 5,730 meters was a mountain tunnel of the Transkhanye road through the Greater Vechnaya Mountain range, north of the small local village of Malenkiy. It serves basically as a lifeline to the South Zevgorian People's Republic, as it is the main supply route that the Stasnovan aid covoys use to enter the country and distribute the much needed goods to the local population. However, on this day, the tunnel would have a different use. The Stasnovan side of the strategically important tunnel was highly protected by the entirity of the 91st Air Defence Missile Regiment. It would serve as the main route of the 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division into South Zevgoria, and straight to the frontlines, while the 31st Guards Motor Rifle Division along the 3rd Guards Separate Tank Regiment would use Highway 89 to reach South Zevgoria, the second fastest way to do so.

The massive convoy belonging to the 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment was ready to enter the tunnel. Column upon column of BMPs, BTRs, trucks and MBTs occupied the road outside the tunnel's entrance, next to a Stasnovan military base located there. Helicopters flew above the base and the concentrated vehicles like angry bees, deafening those bellow with their rather loud blade rotors. The men were in full digital flora camo combat gear, the Stasnovan standar issue. Most of them were veterans of the Second Rekovian War, so were their commanders, all the way up to Division level. It was reported that the he cities of Mienta and Kokoity, as well as Chekhavali, the South Zevgorian capital, had been attacked by Dagelian forces, so the sooner the Stasnovans entered the tunnel, the better. The soldiers, despite their combat experience, were getting more and more nervous because of the delay. Next to a BMP-25M2 belonging the 1st Company, 153rd Motor Rifle Battalion was Captain Mikhail Zimanov, CO of the company. Zimanov was an inspiring combat leader, loved and respected by his men. He was discussing with the men of 1st Platoon, when suddenly, someone shouted an order to stand at attention.

"POLK! VNIMANIYE!"

The 51st's units quickly formed up, battalion by battalion, standing at attention, holding their weapons near their chests. The boss was here. Colonel Andrey Andreyevich Kirilenko, commander of the "dreaded" 51st, a skilled commander and veteran of Rekovia, arrived on a Tigr-M Infantry Mobility Vehicle. He exited the vehicle and loudly banged the door before him. His command vehicle, a BMP-2M1K, waited for him, parked on the oppossite side of the road where the mass of vehicles of the 51st was waitting to mobilise. He took off his field cap, and climbed on top of his vehicles. As he gazed upon the amassed men, a smile formed on his face. The men and women facing him, his soldiers, his brothers in arms, smiled as well. He was like a father to them and if not that, some short parental figure in general. Having risen through the ranks of the 51st, he knew most of his men's names, barring some replacements.

"Comrades!" he spoke, as his men suddenly got serious once again, erasing the smiles from their faces "We have been through hell together numerous times in the past. From the street fighting in Bratislav back in '91, to the mountains of Cydonia and the cold, snow-ridden battlefields of Rekovia, we have fought and endured together all these years. However, once again the Motherland demands our service! Once again we shall answer her call, and we shall do so until our last breath! Today, we are deployed to the South Zevgorian People's Republic, to repel the invasion of the Dagelian oppressors and aid our Zevgorian comrades! Today, we'll teach those Dagelian dogs how to fight! Glory to Stasnov! Glory to the Revolution!"

"URA! URA! URA!" the gathered men that numbered roughly 2,000 men in total shouted in unison, creating a mighty roar.

"Get to your vehicles, we go to war!" the Colonel loudly ordered, and the men followed the order, starting to enter their vehicles or ride on the tank desant-style. The colonel buttoned up in his vehicle, and made himself comfortable. His regiment would spearhead the convoy. He had his orders. He activated the communication device.

"Regiment! Move out"

And thusly, the, the 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, followed by the rest of the 25th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment entered the Temno tunnel, while the 31st Guards Motor Rifle Division along the 3rd Guards Separate Tank Regiment also started moving into S. Zevgoria at the same time. via Highway 89 . Meanwhile, a large formation of aircraft flew above them as they rolled into Temno.

Colonel Anatoly Demidov, leading the 32nd and 33rd Squadrons of his 35th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment into combat, saw the large column of vehicles entering the strategically important Temno Tunnel. He led a strike package of a total of 45 Su-24M2 and Su-34s flying at 15,000 feet above the ground, armed to the teeth with KAB-500L and KAB-1500L/KR laser and TV-guided bombs, Kh-31P ARMs, Kh-29L/T laser/TV-guided missiles, along with other types or ordnance. Flying some kilometres ahead of them, forming the tip of the spear, were three Su-24MPs. However, these Fencers were not armed with missiles or bombs, but were instead equipped with state-of-the-art high-power jamming pods, to blind enemy radars and prevent them from identifying the strike formation. At 30,000 feet above the main strike package, were the 15 Su-27SM2s of the 77th Fighter Aviation Squadron, providing top cover for the fighter-bombers while the conduct the operation, in case the enemy air force tries to attack them. A single A-50 Beriev AWACs under MiG-29SMT escort, monitored the air space in and around the Area of Operations.

In a matter of minutes, the Stasnovan strike package reached the frontlines. The pilots could clearly see the capital of Chekhavali. Having in mind that Dagelian force, including air defence missile batteries, were fully deployed outside the city, Colonel Demidov grinned. The EW aircraft must be doing a really good job since no SAM launch was detected yet he thought, as he gazed at the battlefield bellow them, with his co-pilot sitting next to him running frantic checks on the cockpits equipment. They could now begin. He opened comms to all aircraft.

"This is Kasatka 1-1 to all strike aircraft. We are entering the AO now. Weapons free, i repeat, weapons free!" his voice cracked through the communications.

The strike package started unleashing their payload against their ground targets. The main objective of the Aerial Phase of Operation Kogot, was to destroy enemy SAM and artillery sites, as well as enemy CPs and strongpoints, and in general, weaken the Dagelian attacks, so the the ground forces would meet less resistance during Phase 2 of the operation. The Stasnovan military operations had began.

Operation Kogot - Phase 2
0820 hours

The 1st Company of the 153rd Motor Rifle Battalion formed the lead spearhead/scouting force of the convoy, moving about 500 metres in front of the main body of vehicles. The 51st's convoy wouldn't exit the tunnel until the Company had established a beachead on the tunnel's exit. As the 1st Company's 12 BTR-82Ass were almost out of the tunnel, they reduced their speed. The soldiers were all quiet and ready for anything. For all they knew, they could drive straight into a large Dagelian ambush and get slaughtered, without any chance to warn the rest of the convoy. But they didn't want to think of that. ELINT reported that no significant enemy movement was reported near th tunnel. Captain Zimanov ordered his radio operator to open communications with all three platoons, as the young radioman gave him the device.

"This is Orel to all platoons. Here's the plan. Once we exit the tunnel, disembark as quickly as possible and form up on me behind the BTRs. Orel out."

After receiving positive replies from the platoon leaders, the Captain handed the device back to the radio operator. They were approaching the exit. The soliders started running checks on their equipment for a last time, cocking their rifles and preparing psychologically. The light of the sun hit them abruptly as they exited the dark tunnel, and the eyes of the soldiers took some time to adjust. The BMP-3s stopped.

"Everyone disembark! Move! Move! Move!" a sergeant barked out orders as they starting jumping off the BTRs, that quickly drove forward to shield the Company.

Right on the tunnel's exit, was the village of Muravey, which the South Zevgorian People's Republic militias have reported to have evacuated of the civillian population. The highway exiting the tunnel passed through the village and led to larger, main highway of the area, that led straight to the South Zevgorian capital of Chekhavali. An abandoned milita checkpoint lied empty about 40 metres from the tunnels exit. It was actually kind of quiet. The dark clouds dominated the sky above, and the light breeze brought the distant sounds of gunfire, shelling and airstrikes from away, the only sound that disturbed the silence. The 1st Company's Platoon leaders gathered around Captain Zimanov, while the rest of the 110-strong Company was waitting crouched behind the BTR-82As.

"Right" began the Captain "Kasyanov, take 2nd Platoon an secure the abandoned checkpoint. Denisov, Morgunov, take the 3rd and AT platoons and and search the side of the village on the right side of the road. Morgunov, deploy your ATGMs on the buildings when you secure your side. I'll take the 1st and search the left side"

"Yes sir"

"Understood comrade captain"

"Willco"

"Good" Zimanov nodded, and the platoon leaders returned to their men. He opened comms to the BTR crews "This is Orel to all Orel BTRs. 1 and 2 are to follow 3rd Platoon, 3 and 4 are to follow the 1st and me, the rest will help 2nd secure that abandoned road checkpoint"

After he received positive replies, he took a look at his watch. It was precisely 08:30.

"Go!" he gave the order. The soldiers got back on their feet, and the BTR-82As' engine's roared into life, as the platoons and their vehicles starting moving to secure their objectives.

After half an hour exactly, at 0900 hours, both sides of the village were secured, no enemy contacts, no civillians found. The entirty of the village was now in Stasnovan hands. A transmission was relayed back to Regiment that the passage was clear. They could pass.

July 5th, 1030 Hours, Outside the Tenmo Tunnel, Stasnov/South Zevgorian Border

The First wave of the Kalugan Forces arrived at the Tenmo tunnel, the fastest way into South Zevgoria. The plan had been for the Kalugans to use the tunnel as an expressway into South Zevgoria. Unfortunately, it seemed that every soldier and vehicle in Eastern Stasnov had the same idea. A Stasnovian Officer had advised the Kalugans to wait to the side until all the Stasnovan forces had gotten through. After a few hours of waiting around, 2nd Lieutenant Dmitri Petrenko finally arrived at the front to take command of his Platoon. As he got out of the LAV a Transport Officer had kindly allocated for him, he looked at the 125th Battalion, temporarily stationed in two large fields while the Stasnovian 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment moved through the Tunnel. Putting a Field Cap over his light brown hair, he strode through the Battalion, looking for the Temporary CP. Once there, he found Colonel Pasternak, his Commanding Officer. "Ah Petrenko!" He said, smiling warmly as he shook Dmitri's hand. "Nice of you to join us. Your Sergeant was just here, looking for you. Sergeant Vladimir Makarov, served with distinction during the Rebellion 15 years ago. Joined up with us after a few years as a Policeman. You're lucky to have him, Lieutenant. He's one of our most experienced soldiers. 7th Platoon is over by the old mill, waiting for inspection." Dmitri nodded, saluting Colonel Pasternak, who saluted back. "Good luck, Lieutenant. May Glory find its way to you in Combat."

"Thank you, Colonel. And may Glory find you as well."

---

1100 hours, Old Stasnovian Mill inside the Kalugan Temporary Staging Ground

When Dmitri saw 7th Platoon for the first time, his first thought was about how young they looked. He hadn't been expecting an elite Fighting Force of determined Kalugan Rangers, but neither had he expected fresh-faced recruits, looking as if they were as inexperienced as he was. Only Makarov, he had learned, was a veteran of past conflict. And looking at him right now, Dmitri could well believe it. Makarov strode over to him and smartly saluted, to which Dmitri saluted back. From a glance, his new Sergeant was obviously well-built and very strong, taller than he was by several inches, with neatly trimmed beard and mustache, and brown eyes gazing respectfully at him behind a pair of glasses. "2nd Lieutenant Petrenko, I'm your new Sergeant, Vladimir Makarov. As per instructions from the Colonel, I have kept the Platoon in discipline while you journeyed here. I would suggest you inspect them before you get settled in Sir. It shows them you put Discipline before relaxation." "Thank you, Sergeant," Dmitri said, surveying the 26 faces arrayed before him in 2 rows of 13 each. All of them stood at attention, all of them saluting. 6 soldiers in on the first row, Dmitri came across a young girl with obviously dyed violet hair and Purple eyes. The uniform was immaculate, so Dmitri decided to let the hair dying bit of information go.

"Name?" He asked. "Private Kara Markhov, Sir." Dmitri nodded, absorbing that information for future reference. "Immaculate Uniform, Private, Well done." He moved on through the platoon, satisfied with their professionalism under inspection. Near the end of the second row, he spotted another girl, probably the same age as Kara, faintly smiling to herself, as if she was off in her own little world. "Name?" No response. Dmitri cleared his throat, snapping the girl out of her trance and causing a blush to appear on her cheeks. "Oh, uh, Corporal Serafina Larivenko, Tiger Claw Operator, Sir." Dmitri smiled, showing her that she wasn't in trouble. "What were we smiling at, Corporal?"

---

"I will admit, I was afraid that the Platoon would be characterless soldiers." Dmitri confided to Makarov as they walked along the outer rim of the fields. In reply, his sergeant laughed heartily. "Lieutenant, I have never met a more varied cast of characters. Larivenko collects Anime in her Spare time and Private Sevchenko, It has to be said, tries to hit on every single girl in the platoon. Only Larivenko has given him any attention."

"And Markhov? What's with her hair dye?" This had confounded Dmitri since he had first seen her. Vladimir grinned, picturing the private in his mind. "It's a fashion thing among the Kalugan girls nowadays. Dye their hair to match their eye colour. She and Larivenko go way back, those two are practically inseparable. Would it interest you to know that Larivenko became a Corporal due to exceptional conduct during training? During a Live-fire exercise, she broke cover into artillery fire to rescue a trio of rookies who had been wounded by a stray shell. She may have a huge sense of humour, but she's also very calm and professional under fire. Has the makings of a real soldier, she does."

Dmitri had to agree. Behind the cheeriness that made everyone smile, he could see what Vladimir saw, a courageous Warrior anxious to prove himself in Combat. Recalling the words he and Pasternak said to each other, how they hoped that Glory would find its way to each other, he wished that upon Serafina as well.

Strategic Overview

Meanwhile, back at mainland Dagelia, on the Roskian-Dagelian border, the recently arrived 104th Infantry Brigade and the 22nd Armored Brigade of the Roskian Federal Army were welcomed by the local authorities, that provided them with a base to operate from, that was however, far from the Dagelian-South Zevgorian border and thusly, far from the frontlines. The Dagelian officers admired the Roskians, having based their country's hopes of military advancement on their northern allies. Almost immedeately, the Dagelian officers tried to establish bonds with the Roskians, from high-ranking officers to regural grunts, in hopes of better coordination should the Stasnovans face their joint forces, and more efficient cooperation of the two countries' military forces in the future.

However, despite the way the Dagelian military brass enjoyed the Roskian military precense in their country, the Dagelian populace didn't have the same opinion. They knew that the Roskians were there, to put it simply, reinforce a corrupt, conservative and unfair regime of a single man and his henchmen, that ruled over their country since its independence. Regardles s of the opinion polls that showed their support for the war, a large part the Dagelian people never trusted their "beloved" and "democratically-elected" leader, Davit Giorgadze, despite his slight rise of popularity for trying to reclaim lost territory. Polls showed that 69% of Dagelians supported the war, their support fueled mostly by the thousands of year-old "feud" between them and the Stasnovans population, that formed the majority in the western parts of their country.

The for the most part National Party-controlled Dagelian National Parliament, did not pose much of a problem for the government's military actions against South Zevgoria, and it quickly upvoted the invasion plans during a secret meeting. However, the head of the official oppossition and leader of the Dagelian Democratic Union, Vasil Mzhavanadze, that Giorgadze and his government never managed to silence or take out of the way, never hesitated to show his oppossition to the war. The Dagelian People's Democratic Party was the only major Left-wing Party in Dagelia, with the formed Communist Party ousted and later dissolved, the People's Democratic Party was the only thing left from the country's Socialist past, and it made its precence felt from the very beginning of the war, staging protests across the country against the conflict. It hadn't cause much of a problem, for now.

Tactical Overview of the Dagelian offensive

Day 1

At 0900 hours, October 3rd of 2015, the Dagelian military launched a combined arms operation to re-establish the constitutional order in South Zevgoria. The first day of the large-scale, suprise Dagelian ground offensive when as smoothly as they could, and ten hours later, at 19:00 local time, the Dagelian Ministry of Defence officially announced the operation. It came as a shock, both to the South Zevgorian government and people, as well as to Stasnov and the rest of the world. No one imagined that the alledgedly rag-tag Dagelian military force could coordinate, let alone amass the forces for such a well planned and thought out attack against the breakway republic, even after all these years of peace. However, the Dagelians, having recovered their military prowess and might through years of covert re-equipment and high-quality trainning programmes, proved them all wrong. The small nation was picking a fight with the giant to the west.

Before the main ground offensive started, at 0500 hours, the 16th Parachute Battalion of the 1st Light Infantry Brigade, numbering 1800 men, was airdropped behind enemy lines, taking advantage of the chaos caused by the 8-hou long artillery barrage by the Dagelian forces. They jumped from their transports and arrived at their targets almost undetected, before hitting the South Zevgorian militia strongpoints, camps, depots, and SAM and radar sites. Then, it was too late for the South Zevgorians to react. The ground offensive started at 0900 hours. The forces that carried out the offensive were the 3rd and 4th Infantry, as well as the 1st and 2nd Mechanised Brigades, along with the 2nd Armoured Brigade and two Battalions of Internal Ministry troops, directly supported by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Artillery Brigades. There have also been reports of the 1st Mountain-Reconnaissance Battalion taking part in the attack. The 11th and 16th National Guard Infantry Battalions are also part of the offensive force.

The 1st and 2nd Mechanised along with the two Internal Ministry Battalions, attacked the capital city of the South Zevgorian People's Republic, Chekhavali, while the 3rd and 2nd Infantry and the 2nd Armoured staged an offensive against Mienta. Elements of the 16th Parachute Battalion, with heavy support by artillery, attack helicopters and close air support aircraft have encircled the town of Kokoity. The Dagelian paratroopers are currently being reinforced by the 11th and 16th National Guard Battalions, that have just arrived at the outskirts around the town. The remaining forces of the 16th Parachute Battalion are currently taking and securing small villages at the hilly are surrounding Kokoity, supported by attack helicopters and light artillery. These troops numbered over 27000 servicemen, proving the Stasnovan estimate of "rougly 20000" wrong.

However, when the news of the Stasnovan 27th Guards Army moving through the Temno tunnel and entering the South Zevgorian People's Republic arrived at the Dagelian Military High Command, many air assets were ordered to retreat from South Zevgoria and back to the Dagelian Air Force Bases near the border, leaving the ground forces with limited air support. The Dagelian High Command weren't fools. They knew that the Stasnovan Revolutionary Air Force, as well as their air defence units would have the upper hand in the aerial warfare, however, the would still do their best to delay or disrupt the Stasnovan VVS from carrying out air strikes against their main ground forces. In addition, three more brigades were being prepared to be deployed to South Zevgoria, with additional air defence units.

Against them, the South Zevgorian People's Republic Milita pitted the "Lisa", "Akula", "Ruka", "Shavi", "Loshad", "Ryba" and "Izgoy" Battalions, number roughly 7000 men. The milita was largerly outnumbered, outgunned and outmatched in general in the Dagelian ounslaught. Using mostly older equipment and with virtually no air support on its own, they would rely on sheer determination, cunning, and good old guerilla tactics to take on the Dagelian assaulting forces.

Day 2

In Chekhavali, the Dagelian mechanised infantry and Internal Ministry forces met heavy resistance. It was the People's Republic's capital, and the South Zevgorian militiamen would make the Dagelians pay each metre of ground they took with blood. Lot's of it. The Dagelians had already taken 21 casualties and 2 of their BMP-1Us were destroyed by RPG firem by the time the Stasnovan VVS arrived. The Stasnovan aerial operations in the caused many additional loses on the Dagelians however, with over 18 vehicles being disabled or destroyed by the air strikes, and dozens of additional men killed or wounded. On the ground, the flexible militia groups, moving through the tall buildings of the city, took a heavy toll on the Dagelian mechanised infantry, that was rather unsuited for urban warfare. However, the militia took heavy losses themselves. 32 were dead, along 2 BMP-1Ds and several UAZs and BRDM-2s destroyed. The Dagelians had 57% of the city under their control, and were slowly but steadily making progress. The Stasnovan VVS was enough to delay the Dagelian advance for the first day, but nobody knew if the South Zevgorians would hold long enough for the Stasnovan ground forces to arrive.

Meanwhile, in the half-destoroyed city of Mienta, the Dagelian infantry faced the hardened and determined South Zevgorian militia force of the "Akula" and "Ruka" Battalions. The city of Mienta received the most artillery fire of all cities, as it housed many militia arm and fuel depots. The ruins left behind by the bobmardment provided exellent cover during urban fights. The Dagelians moved smarter in Mienta when compared to Chekhavali. Only manouverable light vehicles entered the city, while the tanks of the 2nd Armoured Brigade stayed outside, with numerous tank platoons moving around the city flanks to secure the highways and roads leading to heavily battered Mienta. In Mienta happened the bloodiest, heaviest streetfighting of the conflict so far. Hand to hand combat was also common. Thermobaric weaponry was also used en mass by both sides, proving to be extremely effective at taking out troops entrenched in buildings. 41 militiamen and 36 Dagelian soldiers were casualites of the "slaughterhouse" of urban ruins that Mienta had become.

In the small city of Kokoity, things were different. The Dagelian paratroopers and National Guardsmen had taken almost 90% if the small city, facing considerable but weak resistance, as the milita's forces in Kokoity numbered less than 300. The Dagelian light infantry moved swiftly through the streets and alleyways of the city, without providing much of a target for the militiamen, that were expecting to face a mechanised force similar to that attacking Chekhavali. The elite Dagelian paratroopers as well as their National Guard collegues proved their worth in the fighting in Kokoity, dispatching milita platoon after militia platoon with ease, and destroying a number of light vehicles in the process. The Dagelian commander there hoped for a swift victory and he was very close to achieving it. The Dagelian flag would fly over the main building of the city before sunset.

Pictured above: Stasnovan forces moving into the disputed territory of South Zevgoria.

After several days of fighting and violence in the region of South Zevgoria, Nikolic Woronoff has officially stated that the Republic of Zolevskoy "whole heartedly supports Dagelia" and their "fight against Stasnovan imperialism". He went on to condemn South Zevgoria for instigating the conflict with provocative actions, and Stasnov for supporting "discrimination against ethnic Dagelians".

"As usual, Stasnov and their imperialistic policies have de-stablized yet another region in Atlas. This time, the victim is the country of Dagelia." Woronoff stated today. "The current war has the potential to spread even outside of South Zevgoria, which would bring only more harm to innocent civilians who have done no harm." Woronoff also denounced the attack as a "land grab", and called on other nations to take a tougher stand against Stasnov.

The Zolevskoyan president also stated that Stasnovan moves against Dagelia poses "a problem for global security". The Republic of Zolevskoy faced off against Stasnovan forces in the Kozelsk war of 2014, and have also taken a stand against their naval forces in the Bay of Lowren this year. The naval forces of Stasnov have trespassed Zolevskoyan national waters previously, which has prompted the Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces to set their naval forces and coastal defenses on high alert. The RZAF is known to have a large stockpile of P-800 Onyx and P-500 Bazalt anti-ship missiles, the former of which the strongest in their inventory.

Down it Stasnov and their Soviet imperialism. They want to spread their cancer of a "revolution" throughout the world even where it is not wanted.

The free nations of the world should be taking a much tougher stance against Stasnov, we have all had enough of their bullsh*t at this point. Too many countries have been maimed by their policies.

East of Chekhavali, 1105
Centurion James ''Truck'' Salary

The HALO jump had not been pleasant - a cloudless night had meant that, although the route was clear, Truck and his soldiers had been utterly exposed. Luckily, no-one on the ground seemed to have taken notice of their drop, and they had worked their way to the roads east of the South Zevgorian capital on foot, using every part of their considerable training as light infantry to move steadily and silently through the hinterlands around the capital. It had taken them the best part of the night, and throughout the hours of darkness the city of Chekhavali had been visible as a conglomeration of lights to their south. Gunfire and the crumping sound of explosions had been echoing from the city sporadically, the flames and tracer rounds occasionally visible against the dark night sky, smoke rising here and there in thin plumes.

To the east, the Dagelian staging posts and convoys were clearly visible, crawling towards the city's eastern perimeter. They were not yet making any attempt to hide - other than a few Stasnovian airstrikes, which had focused almost entirely against Dagelian troops already within the city, there was no significant threat to them.

Time to change that, thought Truck, as he posted up on a rocky ledge to the north-west of the main east-west highway into Chekhavali. The team was so far west that the city was only visible as a glow behind the hills now, other than the suburbs nearest to them. The road towards the city was peaceful and quiet, though damaged concrete and military detritus betrayed that it was this route the Dagelians had used to advance against the city.

Beside him, Lieutenant Lutyanka slid into position, one of his Stasnovian-descended, Dagelian-speaking duo and the unit 2IC. She was a grumpy woman with little good to say about the world, possessed of sharp features that were pretty only on the rare occasion that she smiled, but she was a reliable and capable soldier and he was glad to have her on the mission.

She was hefting a RAM Mjolnir anti-materiel rifle - it was the only truly long-range weapon the team had, much to Truck's chagrin, since space had been limited. It was a powerful weapon firing .50 BMG rounds, but it was impossible to properly silence or suppress, meaning that if they used it to strike at the Dagelians, they'd have to move quick-time or attract some serious grief.

She fumbled with the weapon, setting it up properly and adjusting the sights before leaning into the scope and shutting one eye. He knew better than to ask her what she saw - she would tell him when she was ready, so he waited in silence as she traversed the weapon ever so slightly, scanning the lower ground to their east.

"Well, this is it alright. There's another convoy about six klicks out. They're not moving now but they're getting ready to, looks like. Lots of activity."

"Strength?" asked Truck, his tone airy even as he waved up two of the team, Sanders and Bamfleot.

"Probably a battalion, maybe four or five companies at most. Looks mostly motorised, trucks and shit, but they have one or two pieces of armour. There's some kind of BMP up front."

Truck shrugged. No matter how well-armed they were, no eight-man team could take on an entire battalion and win, not even these Dagelian toughs. He thought for a moment and then nodded, issuing instructions, his compact squad springing to life atop the breezy hillside.

By the time the Dagelians rolled through, the trap would be set. Two carefully-positioned explosive points were prepared, one on either side of the central reservation. When the first piece of heavy armour rolled over, remote detonators would send a plume of flame roaring up underneath it. When the vehicles behind it attempted to go around, the second explosion would cause even more damage and chaos. Two or three well-placed .50 HEIAP explosive rounds would trash the engines or fuel tanks of the largest, least-armoured trucks that presented themselves before the team would cross the road and hide in the woods to the south. If all went well, Truck intended to send Lutyanka and Bamfleot back after maybe twenty minutes to see if they couldn't identify and eliminate the battalion's CO, who would hopefully have come to investigate the wreckage and supervise clearance. There were no guarantees, but they waited, ready to strike...

Western Chekhavali, two hours earlier, 0903
Teoden Karstaag, ''The Snowlion''

The Snowlion was seated in the back of a beaten-up old saloon car, driven by a local wearing a stained tracksuit. The car smelled of fast food and spiced meats, the floor mats were thick and musty, and the man had privacy curtains hung up like the old DDR diplomats used to do, but the heating worked and the suspension wasn't the worst. Up front was another local, Borya Kuznetsov, his contact here in South Zevgoria and head of the Chekhavali cell of the Fale Revolutionary Internationale. Truth be told, the Chekhavali cell was little more than a printing press from what Karstaag knew. Zevgoria was already pro-leftist and, other than the occasional vandalism against Dagelian-owned businesses, Kuznetsov's people mostly spent their time publishing marxist diatribes and lounging around at cafes when they weren't at their day-jobs.

All of that had changed yesterday, however, when Dagelian artillery had thundered over the border and soldiers had poured towards Chekhavali like a flood. The moment the news had broken, the Snowlion had been on the phone, arranging flights and talking to Borya, who had been brimming with excitement at the thought of fighting the bourgeois pigs with weapons rather than words.

When the Snowlion had arrived this morning, however, sneaking over the border from neighbouring Stasnov under a fake passport in the company of three of his revolutionary comrades, two Brytons and a Carlossan, Kuznetsov's tone had changed. He seemed agitated, unsettled, and as he told his story, the city rolling into view, Karstaag began to understand why.

The Dagelians had assaulted during the night, forcing their way down street after bloody street. Of the perhaps dozen regular members of the Chekhavali FRI, only five had shown up when Kuznetsov put out the call, the rest choosing to hide at home or perhaps join the militia units. When the group had assembled, they had only been able to muster a single hunting rifle and one double-barreled shotgun between them. They had hatched a plan to ambush some Dagelians in the street, but from what Karstaag understood they had fluffed the attack and given themselves away. One comrade had been shot dead, another injured so badly he'd been taken to the city hospital, and they had lost the shotgun.

The Snowlion and his comrades had brought a case filled with semi-automatic pistols, but that was it - hardly enough to take on the might of the Dagelian army, especially not when their only reinforcements were a trio of shaken propagandists. The streets were almost deserted, the threat of warfare only a few blocks away as the militia and the Dagelians wrestled for control of the city. Kuznetsov's apartment was cold but tastefully furnished, and Karstaag was glad of the rest. Settling onto a sagging but cosy couch, pulling out a pack of Brytisc chocolate digestives and setting them on the table. Almost everyone began lighting up cigarettes as Kuznetsov moved uncertainly towards the kitchen.

"You want coffee?" he asked, glancing around the now-crowded living room.
"Oh, yes please, and help yourself to biscuits. No point going anywhere until nightfall anyway. Nice place you have Borya." replied the Snowlion, making to kick off his boots before apparently rethinking the move.

Lezninsky District, Western Chekhavali, South Zevgrorian People's Republic
1st Motor Rifle Company, 153rd Motor Rifle Battalion, 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division, 27th Guards Army
Operation Kogot - Phase 2
1750 hours

The deployment of the entirity of the 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division through the Temno Tunnel was long, frustrating and tirring for the troops, as well as their commanders. The Stavka had issued orders to all field commanders, stating that no operations should start unless the entirity of the Division had passed through that damn tunnel. The stuborness of the Stavka, and the ever watchful eye of the Commissariat's operatives within the troops, made it clear to the Stasnovan commanding officers that there was no other choice. As a result, a massive blob of military vehicles was created outside the Temo Tunnel, something that the small village of Muravey could not house. Thusly, several Battalions were forced to wait for deployment on some grain fields, a common sight in South Zevgoria, near the tunnel's exit. None of the commanders held back on making it clear to his superiors that they feld valnurable out there.

But that was all gone now. The 25th's regimets were moving out now, preparing to enter the fray of battle in Chekhavali, while the 31st Guards Motor Rifle Division's units would reinforce Mienta. It was decided that the 51st and 52nd Guards Motor Rifle would enter the city directly from the SZPR-held Lezninsky District, on the western part of the city, while the 49th Guards Motor Rifle and the 53rd Tank would move towards the city's southern flank, from where a large portion of Dagelian vehicles, mainly armoured was pouring into the South Zevgorian capital. Meanwhile, the 12th Guards Artillery deployed its powerful SPGs and field guns outside the Temno Tunnel, and the Divisional Air Defence Regiment's battalions were scattered across the area, to provide a large-scale air defence coverage of Stasnovan ground operations. The Stasnovan ground forces would have CAS support in the form of attack aircraft and gunship helicopters stationed at Kraynya AFB, located near the border.

The 153rd Motor RIfle Battalion was the first unit to enter the city, headed by the 1st Company. The Stasnovans expected to see Milita soldiers, or at least a small unit to greet them and guide them to were they are mostly needed. But all checkpoints were empty, and the streets were seemingly deserted. The sounds of warfare on the other side of the city was the only thing that disturbed the silence. The soldiers slowly dismounted from their transports, and prepared for anything. Squad and platoon leaders gave out orders silently, through intercom, or using old school hand signals. The 1st Company was split into two groups, each moving along the two sides of the road. Captain Zimanov relayed the situation back to Battalion, and urged them to follow their example. Soon, the whole battalion was moving in a similar formation.

The 153rd was followed by the 159th Tank Battalion, the Regimental supporting tank unit. The 159th was equipped with T-94A main battle tanks, that formed the backbone of the Stasnovan armoured forces, along with the T-74M3, an upgrade of the older T-74. In modern warfare, it is not the best thing to have a tank unit enter a city, however, the advanced active and passive defence systems of the Stasnovan main battle tanks, as well as their heavy armor coupled with advanced ERA modules, gave the Stasnovan commanders enough confidence to deploy armor into urban areas.

As the large column slowly moved, a soldier saw something moving in the third floor of a bombed out large apartment building in front of them. Zimanov raised his hand to the height of his head and closed his fist, signaling the men to stop. The 1st Company halted, and so did the rest of the Battalion, and as a result the whole column.

"This is Gigant to Gigant - A" the voice of the Battalion's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Demichov echoed through the communications device "What's with the stop? The Regiment will have my head for any delay and you now that, over"

"Gigant, this is Gigant - A" Zimanov started "We have movement in one of the multi-storey buildings ahead of us, please advise, ov-"

Zimanov didin't get to finish is sentence. A hand came out of the window in which previously the soldier saw movement. The hand was holding a flora field cap, with the symbol of the militia on it -two small swords crossed behind a red star- and waved it left and right.

"It's the militia" said Zimanov and smirked, as he reopened comms with Battalion "Gigant - A to Gigant. Scratch that. They are friendly"

One hour later...

The South Zevorian militiamen they found were one of the platoons that were tasked to protect the rear of the Ryba Battalion, that was fighting in the city's large central square, located within the Damaev District. The militiamen informed the Stasnovans that the Battalion was reduced to 71% of its original, meaning that there were rougly 710 fighters remaining from the original of 1000. The Ryba Battalion had taken 290 casualties in the first two days of the invasion. These were terrifying figures. But now the full might of the Stasnovan military would crush the Dagelian invaders, and hunt them back to their own homeland. Or that's what the men and women of the Stasnovan Revolutionary Army wanted to think.

The Stasnovans moved into the frontile. The entered the Zevgorian held-side of the central square from the main road as well as other smaller roads, and some platoons even used the alleys. The entire 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment wasbeing deployed in the central square and the area wider area around it, while the 52nd would reinforce other key areas of the battle within the city. 153rd Motor Rifle Battalion was the first to enter the square, and was quickly linked up with a militia company fighting on the square's northwestern portion. Small arms fire cracked above their heads, and mortar rounds exploded around the area, raising clouds of smoke. The milita had properly established a defensive position on their sector, utilising the large, multi-storey buildings surrounding the square as bases of fire, but also diging trenches and machine gun nests on the square itself.

And so, the Stasnovans entered the fray of battle. The 153rd Battalion was deployed directly on the square, with support of a tank platoon of the 159th Tank Battlion, made up by T-94A MBTs. As the soldiers rushed into the trenches to aid their militia comrades, and the vehicles and tank dug in to support the infantry units, the first 152mm shells started rainning on the Dagelian side of the square, and three Mi-24PNs showed up, strafing the enemy forces with their autocannons and rockets. The Stasnovan war machine was in effect.

East of Chekhavali, South Zevgorian People's Republic
41st Mechanized Infantry Battalion, 4th Mechanised Brigade
1107 hours

Corporal Vakhtang Arziani , was riding on a top of a BMP-2D, along with the rest of his squad. He and his comrades-in-arms were part of Alpha Company, the unit that was leading the large convoy of the Battalion. The 41st was moving into the city to reinforce the other units of the 4th Mechanised Brigade already engaged in combat. Before leaving the FOB, his squad, as well as the rest of Alpha Company, were briefed by their commander, Captain Mikheil Bochorishvili, about their mission. They were to enter the city from a route in east, that was secured by the forces spearheading the invasion, to reinforce the rest of the 4th Mechanised that was fighting over the the city's general hospital and the surrounding area against the South Zevgorian "Lisa" Battalion. The general hospital was located on a hill in the middle of the city, overlooking the area, and so its strategic importance was great for both sides. Morale was high, but the arrival of Stasnovan ground units in South Zevgoria troubled the men.

Azriani had heard about the fierce and harsh fighting going on the the city's central square. Back in the FOB, he had overheard some soldiers discussing about how extremely brutal the street to street fighting had become, and how much of a danger area the central square was. It was said that snipers from both sides counted kill upon kill in the square, as the the surrounding buildings provided for deadly effective sniping spots. The fighting for Chekhavali turned into something that the Dagelian High Command feared: a war of attrition. Meanwhile, in Mienta, attrition warfare was already a thing, and casualties were mounting, or so Azriani had heard. But he tried not to think of all of that.

"I've heard that the South Zevgorians are using sticks and shovels to battle our troops in the city" one of the yonger soldiers riding on the BMP alongside them said and laughed.

"Yeah, i know right?" a bulky private muttered, as he tried to make himself confortable on the infantry fighting vehicle "They must be desperate"

"Desperate, but effective" another soldier, a corporal, said as the convoy passed by a column of burnt trucks near an abandoned outpost "They have taken a toll on our men"

"Shut up back there!" the platoon's CO riding in front of the BMP, Second Lieutenant Goglidze ordered them, and the soldiers went silent.

Azriani sighed. Unlike many of his brothers in arms, he wasn't a volunteer. He was a conscript, nearing the end of his service, when his unit received march orders to deploy to the border, to take part in "wargames" or "exercises" that were in fact a buildup of military forces, in preparation of the large-scale invasion of Dagelia. Azriani, though not caring much about politics, never trusted the government and its ambitions, or its promises of "bringing Dagelia to its past glory!" However, despite his mistrust towards his superiors, he was still a patriot that would serve his homeland. Regardless, he never viewed a military invasion against South Zevgoria as a good idea. And his concerns were proven corrent when the first reports of casualties during the first hours of the invasion came in. All these familiar names in the KIA catalogue, all those wounded men in the FOB's field hospital. He struggled to get those thoughts off his mind, and enjoy his last moments of peace.

Suddenly, two massive explosions rocked the ground. The two BMPs in front of them were blown into the air, and its turret flew sever metres away. The bodies of soldiers that were in and on them were thrown in the air by the blast, if not vaporised by the explosions.

"AMBUSH!" 2nd Lt. Goglidze shouted "GET OUT OF THE VEHICLES! GO! GO! GO!"

In the communications channels, chaos broke loose as dozens of platoon leaders started reporting their status. Azriani jumped off the BMP and hit the ground, looking through the ACOG sight of his M4A1 carabine. A fuel truck exploded several metres next to his position, setting everyone unlucky enough to be around it on fire. Another tuck's engine was disabled by a large-calibre round, and smoke started coming out of the hatches. The soldiers and the remaining IFVs and APCs opened fire at every direction, filling the sky with tracers. A soldier was hit by another large calibre round, his shoulder exploding into a red mist. He was too shocked to scream. He was just laying on the mud, trying to reach his rifle with an arm that wasn't there. NCOs were screaming orders, their voices only muffled by the sound of gunfire.

Centurion James ''Truck'' Salary

The ambush had started off better than Truck could have hoped. The leading two BMPs of the Dagelian convoy had gone up in flames, smoke roiling across the roadway as the convoy juddered to a halt behind the carnage. Beside him, Lutyanka was already sighting down her RAM Mjolnir, squeezing the trigger methodically whilst her spotter muttered occasional updates, although compared to the destruction the explosives had caused, her .50 BMG rounds seemed to be making no impact whatsoever.

A soldier had just collapsed, his arm blown clean off by one of Lutyanka's well-placed shots, when the heavy guns of the convoy thundered into life. The whole front end of the convoy erupted with gunfire as the Dagelians returned fire, although the shooting was erratic and wild. Truck slapped Lutyanka on her shoulder and the trio crawled backwards, shuffling below the lip of the rocky hillside before turning to rush down the slope, through the trees, their equipment clattering as they did so.

The squad rushed east, towards a slight bend in the road - just enough to obscure them from the eyes of the 41st Mechanized Infantry Battalion, and then slipped across in pairs. The group then worked their way forwards, just metres from the roadway, until the squad could see the wreckage they had created. Lutyanka wriggled into the undergrowth right by the edge of the road and sighted down her scope again, trying to spot the unit's CO, who would hopefully be co-ordinating the cleanup by now. Regardless, she would try and hit one or two officers before the squad would retreat back towards the city for good.

Western Chekhavali, later that evening
Teoden Karstaag, ''The Snowlion''

Night was drawing in and the sounds of gunfire had changed, moving as the frontlines of the brutal urban combat shifted back and forth. The group had spent an awkward day discussing strategy and going over their plan, but the time had finally come and there was nothing more to do - besides, Karstaag was itching to get out of the apartment and get going. They had only one hunting rifle and two pistols, both Makarov pistols. Karstaag had given the hunting rifle to one of his comrades, Espinoza, who was the best shot of all of them, and he and Kuznetsov had the pistols, leaving one foreigner and one local unarmed save for a pair of kitchen knives hidden under their coats.

The small band slipped out onto the streets and headed down the small alleys towards the fighting. Soon the sounds of gunfire were almost deafening, the occasional flash lighting up the city. Karstaag crouched down, scanning the street, and then picked his spots, gesturing to Espinoza and the others.

Espinoza ran off down the road, climbing up a dumpster and onto a low balcony with shuttered windows, sliding the old hunting rifle between the railings and aiming back towards his comrades. Kuznetzov ran into an alleyway opposite them, whilst the two remaining partisans leaned against a wall, in the shadows. The wait was tense, Karstaag's breath frosting in the chilly South Zevgorian air as he waited, the scene lit only by weak old blue fluorescent bulbs. The others were too nervous to complain much - he could sense the tension in them a mile off. At one point someone came out to complain at Espinoza, but Kuznetzov jogged over and explained and the old woman went back inside, before bringing out a blanket and a mug of coffee for the foreign revolutionary.

After perhaps two hours, their patience was finally rewarded. A light armoured car of some form, with soldiers riding desant on the running boards, headed down the backstreet, perhaps for reconnaissance or to outflank some small position as part of one of the many skirmishes running around the city. Further down the road, a BMP rolled into view, but it was still two or three blocks away and moving slowly - they should have time. Karstaag nodded to the others and they all tensed, ready for action, as the two unarmed fighters ran out onto the road, one half-carrying the other. The first 'collapsed' onto the roadway, and then the the other, the native South Zevgorian, shouted out for help as the Dagelian armoured car came closer.

If the vehicle stopped, then Espinoza planned to hit the gunner first, followed by as many of the infantry as possible. Karstaag and Kuznetzov would open fire from their hiding places within the alleyways, hitting the Dagelians from both sides and hoping that they had enough ammunition to finish the job, whilst the two on the floor would lash out with their knives...

Dagelian-South Zevgorian Border
12 miles away

Roskian troops had finally reached the border, and prepared to set up defencives. Roskian troops would bring in artillery, though not a full brigade, and aerial forces would soon be involved. However, they were not ready for these stages. All the Roskians brought to the fight in terms of air defence were Liberator 2s and dodgy MANPADs that weren't entirely effective against a group that could try to gain and maintain Aerial Dominance. Since the only seen movement of aircraft were Stasnovan attack helicopters in South Zevgoria and some random transport that entered and exited through Stasnovan airspace, but other than that, no real reason to get involved with sending aircraft. Crews readied, and a general air strategy was being made.

Roskian Liberator 2s were top of the line, arguably one of the best battle tanks in Atlas, and they came in expecting a fight. Decked out with ERA brics and APS, these 65 ton monsters would ride out the storm easily, or so they hoped. The RF-40, a multirole craft literally in service for a couple of months, would face its true test of fire, and have its baptism by fire. Roskians dreaded how the war could escalate, but they knew as long as they kept it in a small scale conflict, they would best Stasnov. What the true battle remained was the seemingly international support for the South Zevgorian state, which suprised Roski but also didn't. They also knew that the Roskians and Stasnovans would mostly be the primary second engagers, that really nobody was truly capable of fighting here in large numbers. This put hearts at ease of a possible Carlossian intervention, but Carloso was dealing with its own small state problems.

Roskian troops were also concerned with the well being of the citizens they were supposedly protecting from the Stasnovans. These citizens seemed to be rather uncontent with their government, few even claiming tyranny. The solders would report this amongst returning home, but otherwise, they couldn't really just coup a government in the middle of the war. The troops called for extra supplies, more food and water, to have for the villagers in the villages they were occupying for the time being. It was the least they could do, as the Roskian Military enforced a strict curfew of 9pm, mostly for the lives of the citizens, but also because they really didn't want to deal with people sneaking about at night that weren't supposed to be there, and them thinking they were civilians until a few dozen people were dead. Not exactly what Roski wanted in this war.

Roskian Troops also guarded the door steps of the villages, to make sure that violent crimes didn't happen while they were there. A murder mystery in a war seemed like too much bullshit to handle for the troops, really.

41st Mechanized Infantry Battalion, 4th Mechanised Brigade
1112 hours

The automatic fire from Dagelian small arms as well as the roar of their autocannocs rocked the area. Tracers flew towards seemingly every dicertion, many ricocheting off the ground abruplty changing course, flying towards the sky. Some trees along a treeline to the left of the convoy fell, under the weight of Dagelian firepower. Each soldier had at least fired half or more of a magazine of their ammo. Their commanders wouldn't take any chances with what they thought to be South Zevgorian guerillas. But that was enough for now. Second Lieutenant Goglidze, who was sprinting along the vehicle wrecks with his head lowered, took the half-empty magazine off his AK-74 and replaced it with a fresh one, before pulling the charging handle backwards.

"Cease fire! CEASE FIRE GOD DAMNIT!" he yelled at his men, who followed the order "Keep your sights of those treelines and hedges boys" he took cover behind a bush on the side of the road, along some other soldiers. The whole convoy seemingly went silent, as everyone had stopped firing.

The situation was bad. Around 24 dead and 11 wounded by the attack, with the bodies of two additional soldiers nowhere to be seen. The fire from the unfortunate fuel truck, an old Ural, was still burning around the vehicle's black, burnt carcass. No one was moving to put it out. The danger of an enemy sniper was deemed too high. Thankfully, it was rare for Dagelian officers to wear insignia that stood out from the common infantrymen. One minute passed, two, three. No shooting, no sign of movement. It was all quiet. The large convoy of the 41st Mechanised Infantry Battalion was standing still, wholly silent, no soldier moving. But they couldn't simply stand there. Their mission was to reinforce their men already in the city.

Battalion issued commands to the Company commanders. Each company was to send a platoon to invastigate its respective sector for enemy activity, before the Battalion could start the cleanup so they could move into the city. Alpha Company commander, Captain Mikheil Bochorishvili, seated the commander's seat in his BMP-2K command vehicle received the transmission from the 41st's commander. He quickly pressed some buttons on the communcations device, adjusting it to transmit to the radio frequences of the platoon leader of the 1st Platoon. He grabbed the microphone.

"Kobra-A-1 this is Kobra-A, message, over"

"Kobra-A, send, over"

"Kobra-A-1 you are to move and scan a 200 metre radius from your sector of the convoy for possible enemy activity, over"

"Korbra-A, willco, out"

2LT Goglidze frowned as he sent back the confirmation message, and slighly rose up from his previously proned position, enough so he could just see the helmets of his men. The eyes of platoon, gathered around him, were all fixed on him. He called the squad leaders on communications.

"Allright" Goglidze started "Battalion wants us to patrol a 200 metre radius around our position. 2nd squad will patrol the left side of the road, 3rd will take the right. 1st is to form up on me. We'll patrol the road itself. Let's move out"

The 42-man 1st Platoon rose from the ditch they were hiding in, and its squad's started moving out in columns. Two more platoon's from the other two companies of the convoy were dispatched to patrol their respective sectors, following a similar pattern. The first squad, led by 2LT Goglidze hismelf, moved up the road, with their weapons raised, with the two other squads covering their flanks. Unfortunately, their assorted vehicles were to stay with the convoy. As the 1st squad's leader told his men to watch their spacing, Goglidze saw a flash right ahead of them, on bend of the road. It was the flash one would see if the light of the sun reflected on a mirror...or a sniper's optics. Next thing he knew, the squad leader besides him was hit right in the chest by a anti-material round, that threw his body several feet behind.

"SNIPER!" a soldier shouthed, and the squad rushed to the ditches on each side of the road, from where they opened fire at the road's bend. The two other squads on the flanks opened fire at well, while another platoon was sent by Alpha Company to reinforce them.

The old BRDM-1 rolled into the small backstreet. It had now markings on it, apart from the number 091, and the image of a ghost or some short, or a shadow, that contrasted on the black and dark grey urban camouflage the vehicle was painted with. Six armed individuals were riding desant on the armoured car, besides the gunner that manned the large DShK 12.7 mm heavy machine gun. These soldiers didn't wear the standard Dagelian MARPAT or MultiCam combat uniform, but instead wore a splittertarnmuster-style unifrom along with black combat gear and balaclavas. They had no insignia, besides the symbol that was also on the BRDM, on a shoulder patch. They were also armed with a variety of weapons, such as common AKMs, AK-74s or M4A1s, but also with more rare ones like HK416s or G36Cs.

Two men suddenly showed up on the aleyway, some metres in front of them. One was half-carrying the other, who later collapsed. The other man called for help in Dagelian, but with South Zevgorian accent being rather obvious. One of the gunmen raised his hand, and the BRDM-1 stopped, but with its engine still running. The soldiers disembarked from the old armoured car, while the gunner on it pulled the charging handle of the DShK, letting it fly back forwards on its own, producing that all too familiar clanging sound of a heavy machine gun being prepared to fire. The gunmen moved towards the two men, with their weapons raised. The stopped 5 metres in front of them.

The man that seemed be their commanding officer took a step forwards. His eyes, the only visible part of his face that hid beneath the balaclava, seemed to examine the situation. The masked soldier pressed a button on the communcations device on his vest.

"We have found some rats on a backstreet. One of them seems to not be able to wak. Please advice"

A rather inaudiable transmission came back as a reply.

"Roger that"

The gunman slinged his AK-74M and reached for his pistol holster, taking a decorated M1911 out of it. He raised the pistol aiming for the man that had collapsed, and pulled the hammer back with his thumb.

"It's nothing personal" he muttered.

Captain James ''Truck'' Salary

Their luck had run out, it seemed, as no senior officer presented himself. The Dagelians weren't totally naive, it seemed, and they slung out patrols to keep themselves screened, advancing slowly up the road. Truck's squad began working their way backwards - the Lieutenant fired a single shot at the approaching infantry, throwing one man back onto the road, before she too slid into the undergrowth. They began making their way south-west, towards the outskirts of the city, through the woods, Truck and another of the light infantry screening the rear to see whether they would be followed, whilst ahead of them on point was Sanders, with Beamflot on soft point behind him.

Six soldiers, driver, gunner. Eight. thought the Snowlion, calculating in his head. He was just bracing himself to spring when the leading soldier, a masked man, tugged out a pistol and leveled it at the two partisans on the street. Bollocks. He knew what would happen - Espinoza was good at what he did, and would not switch targets to save his comrades, and so Karstaag span out even as Espinoza's shot rang out down the street, a single 7.62 rifle round whipping towards the machine-gunner's exposed face.

Everything happened at once as Karstaag rolled out of the alleyway. He was silent as the mythical creature from which he took his moniker, and he saw that he was in luck - the Dagelians had all moved towards the two men on the ground, facing mostly away from him. He flowed forwards and, with a professionalism that spoke of more than mere communist fervour, fired two rounds at unarmoured necks, aiming for the spinal cords of the two men nearest him at literally point-blank range, before bringing his pistol around in anticipation of the third man's turn, ready to give him a greeting of lead too.

Across the street from him, Kuznetsov emerged screaming, firing wildly, thudding pistol rounds towards the three men on the left. Gunsen, the man on the ground, shoved his South Zevgorian comrade forwards and followed after him, his knife reaching for the Dagelian leader's neck, the blade a dull black curve in the low light. Espinoza had already hauled back on the bolt of the hunting rifle and was beginning to sight in again...

Chekhavali Intenrational Airport, People's Republic of South Zevgoria
2nd Guards Tank Battalion, 3rd Guards Seperate Tank Regiment
1852 hours

Another situation arose as heavy fighting had now began for good in South Zevgoria. In a swift move, the Dagelian 39th Independant Armoured Battalion, attacked the strategically important Chekhavali International Airport. The large airport, constructed during the Socialist era of the nation, was 14 kilometres behind the main frontline aroud the city. The unified South Zevgorian military high command understood how important the airport was for the war effort, as it could provide Stasnovan air units with a base near the frontline. However, it wasn't considered a priority target for the Dagelians, so just a 100-strong militia company that was just relived from the frontlines was defenging it. This proved to be a mistake when the unit's commander reported that Dagelian tanks were shelling the terminal.

As such, the 3rd Guards Separate Tank Regiment's 2nd Guards Tank Battalion was mobilised. The 3rd Guards Separate Tank Regiment had arrived along with the 31st Guards Motor Rifle Division some hours after thee main forces crossed into Dagelia. Along with the 31st, it was moving to reinforce Mienta, however, it was later ordered to stay behind the frontlines and act as an armoured reserve force, stationed in the small town of Shekhino. Some time later, it was called to reinforce the airports defenders, that had been reduced to half of their original, already battered fighting strength, and had retreated to positions outside the aiport. As its 2nd Battalion was being sent to the airport, the rest of the Regiment was deployed along the front before it, to prevent any Dagelian reinforcements from coming to the aid of their cormades in the airport. The 3rd Guards Seperate Tank Regiment was equipped with modern T-94A and upgraded T-94AM main battle tanks. The rival 39th Independant Armoured Battalion was armed with the weaker, but still effective T-74Sim-1s, an upgrade of older Stasnovan T-74S export variants. The Dagelian Battalion was estimted to have no more than 20 tanks in the airport, that would be outnumbered by the 31 Stasnovan tanks.

Lt. Vasili Ivanov, commander of the 2nd Guards Tank Battalion's 3rd Tank Company sat in the commander's seat in his T-94AMK. The T-94AMK was the command tank variant of the the T-94AM modernisation of the mainstray Stasnovan MBT, the T-94A. The T-94AMK command tank differed from the standard T-94AM in that it had additional, communication and navigation equipment, leaving it with less room for ammunition. Ivanov's company of 10 T-94AMs moved fast on the highway passing by the village of Visky, located on the west side of the airport, that was occupied by what remained of the militia unit that was assigned to defend the airport. No more than 50 soldiers, outgunned by the Dagelian armor. The 3rd Company was followed by the 2nd, while the 1st would attack the airport using an open field to the north, that granted the tanks plenty of open area to manouvre, though leaving them more exposed.

Ivanov's tanks entered Visky through a dirt road. He pocked from the commander's hatch as they drove by the village centre, were 20 or so militia fighters had retreated. He ordered the column to stop. One of the militia soldiers approached him. The soldier's face was dirty, and there was dried out blood on his combat vest.

"Nice to see that you guys haven't forgotten us." the middle-aged sodlier started "But you came a little late. We've lost half of our men and the airport is basically under Dagelian control. There is a squad of 10 of our soldiers hidden in the basement of the new terminal, but they lack AT weaponry. We can't reach them"

"What's your name, comrade?" Ivanov asked.

"Yuri Tolstykh, sergeant" the soldier replied.

"Comrade sergeant, i'm Lt. Ivanov. We're here to help. I know that you and your men are exhausted, but we'll need you to clear what remains of the Dagelian forces in the airport after we break through their lines."

"I have 20 men here, and ten more around the village's perimetre. There are the other 10 in the new terminal and another 8 are trying to escape the airport through the fence on the north. What do you think i can do with 30 exhausted soldiers, comrade Lieutenant?" Tolstykh was evidently desperate. And justifiably so.

"Whatever you can" Ivanov replied with a strict manner "Our tanks can punch through the Dagelian armor. But if any straglers remain in the airport, we'll need your infantry to clean em' up."

Tolstykh sighed "Alright. I'll also contant my men in the new terminal to prepare to get out once you've cleared the enemy armor"

Ivanov nodded "What's your callsign?"

"Orel - 1 - B"

"Good, mine is Tarakan - 3 - K. Prepare your men. I'll call you when needed"

"Good luck" the sergeant replied as Ivanov buttoned up in his tank, and the column started moving again, towards the village's eastern side, that overlooked the airport.

The 3rd Company's tanks began deploying in a straigt line along the eastern side of the village. The 2nd, with its slightly older T-94As was deploying to the south of the village, from where they would mount their assault. They could clearly see the airport now, about 2 kilometres away. The control tower, that was used as an observation post by the milita, was heavily shelled, but was still somehow standing. The new terminal suffered the same fate, as it was the Zevgorians' main base in the airport. The old terminal however was left largerly unscathed. There was no movement on their sights, so Ivanov switched to thermal. As he looked through his periscopic sight, he saw the six figures running towards the northern fence. The thermal signatures of two more bodies laying on the ground were also visible. These must be the militia soldiers trying to escape thought Ivanov, as he relayed the info to the rest of his company. Suddenly, he saw a single tracer coming from behind of the old terminal, hitting the group of running soldiers right in the middle. The HE-Frag round killed four of the soldiers, and injured the other two. Ivanov turned his periscopic sight towards the old terminal, and suddenly saw four Dagelian T-74Sim-1s speeding out of cover, and firing their HMGs and co-ax MMGs at the remaining two soldiers.

"Gunner, target, tank, two thousand metres, bearing 312. Fire APFSDS!"

"On the way"

The 125 milimetre gun of the T-94AMK roared, and the autoloader started inserting a new round into the barrel, as the empty cartridge are automatically ejected outside the vehicle through a small hatch in the rear of the turret. It was a direct hit on the side of the enemy tank's turret. The round, that had probably hit the ammunition rack of the vehicle, triggered a so-called catastrophic kill, and the tank exploded, with its turret launched metres above the ground, as fire engulfed what remained of the vehicle.

"Tarakan - 3 - K to all Tarakan - 3 elements, fire at will!" Ivanov ordered the rest of his tanks. The Stasnovan vehicles opened fire as more enemy tanks emerged from behind the airports buidlings, and started returning the shots. The 2nd Company's T-94As ran over the fence on the south end of their airport, and opened fire with their guns, as the 1st Company also entered the battle from the north, cruising through the open field with their main guns roaring. As more Dagelian armor showed up from the inner parts of the airport, the Stasnovan estimates of "no more than 20 tanks" in the Airport was proven wrong. Ivanov could see at least 27 targets, not including the ones already taken out. The tank battle for the Chekhavali International Airport had started for good.

The White Rose Group
Somewhere near the borders of The People's Republic of South Zevgoria

The mercenaries were gathered at a small village (abandoned), close to the borders of South Zevgoria. They had no vehicles as of the moment for all of their 10 trucks (which could carry 20 people with 4 boxes of supplies or 50 without supplies) went away to get more mercenaries close to the battlefield. This was their assembly area. The mercenaries were dressed in gray civilian clothes, most of the mercenaries equipped with night vision goggles, bullet proof vests, helmets, keffiyehs for hiding their identity or even facemasks, anti-tank weapons, rocket propelled grenades and grenade launchers, light machine guns and other military and police equipment. The White Rose Group obtained such things via organized crime, hiring criminals to obtain such hard tech and pieces for them, and via the black market and secret purchases. This caused Azenyanistan, with her Knights (police and military), to drive them out of the country and into hiding elsewhere, working elsewhere.

The mercenaries were checking and rechecking their equipment or chatting or doing both while Anthea, designated as some sort of captain or leader of this band of mercenaries, was checking the list of women and men that were with her on this job. She counted 200 present. Only 500 more to go. This would take a while. And to wait would mean missing a lot of the action and no payment for the job. She recounted and rechecked. Done. She then fetched a laptop with WIFI from one of her mercenaries and contacted Aquilah, requesting permission to go on the job ASAP. Aquilah granted permission and the leader of the 200 strong mercenaries, for now, smiled and assembled her people, telling them what they needed to know, giving orders, ensuring the distribution of supplies, ammunition and other needed things.

Then after 10 minutes of waiting and chatting and rechecking, the White Rose Group, with the initial 200 divided into several 10 man teams, went on the move, on foot, into the country, crossing the border.

The Gray Banner Organization
Somewhere in the People's Republic of South Zevgoria

"All right, ladies, Ardah is saying we cannot have any more reinforcements for maybe 30 minutes. I dunno. But let's deal with it. We're gonna be on our own until more of our members come to this place. We're around 100. We'll split into 2 groups, I'll take 50, Arella will take the rest. I want Arella to take her forces opposite mine, find a nice spot where they could establish a very small base then wait for my signal. Now, Arella and crew, be careful, we're hired but that does not mean that we really are their own. When anyone from Roski, Zolevskoy or Terres Libres comes and sees us, better explain that the Dagelians hired us for this war. Be prepared for any unnecessary conflict."

Said Ariel as she and 100 of her mercenaries gathered at an abandoned and empty field close to the cities.

"What about you, Ariel?" Asked one of the mercenaries

"I'll be taking the 50 and myself to do some recon. It's gonna be useless if we are going to go in blind, especially with the damn White Rose on the opposite side. If we make contact, we'll communicate, okay?"

The mercenaries of this organization nodded, taking their gear and their equipment out and into their vehicles. The Organization has sent 100 mercenaries and several technicals as well some very rare looking armored personnel carriers which the Organization bought from the Azen military secretly and with no difficulties due to some corruption until the Knights came around. And Ariel and Arella were going to battle with their people. Like the White Rose, this group was full of women. But this was as it was since Azenyanistan was full of women.

After some time, the Gray Banner Organization made its move. Two groups moving in separate directions. One determined to get some eyes and ears on the coming factions and to alert their comrades of any contact and another on way to create a base for their Organization and to do some good stuff which was actually only for the Organization and for their side.

South Zevgoria-Dagelian Border
1851 hours

Roskian troops had gained word they had not wanted to hear. A special operations group from a power that was not Stasnov was now operating in Zevgoria. Everyone who anticipated an assault by the end of the week was now pale at the idea of fighting in the area. They didn't know what foreign power they could accidentally declare war on by attacking.

However, a sign of relief came when Roskian Attack helicopters soared in from the motherland, only about 10 of them, but it was still enough to potentially end whatever special force was there. The pilots weren't given a specific "kill the special forces mission," but rather, they were to provide close-air support to the attacking Dagelians. They hoped this could ward off Stasnov, but not provoke a full scale conflict.

Thunder 8-6, look to your left, there appears to be some sort of conflict

Indeed, it appeared there was conflict at the Chekhaveli International Airport, which would be key to keeping if the Dagelians wanted to win. The ten helicopters split up, then looked for various targets they could clearly identify as Stasnovan. Because Dagelian tanks were extremely similar to Stasnovan tanks, they couldn't just look at the tank design, they had to individually located allied forces then find the forces shooting at them.

All Thunder Units, be advised, Air Support not available at this time. If the enemy shows up with airpower, quickly vacate the premises.

This warning hit very close to home. With no air support, jets would still have a dangerous time trying to take out the helicopters, but the helicopters couldn't otherwise defend themselves. All of the pilots now knew exactly how dangerous this mission was.

"Stasnovan T-94 tank coming into view, preparing for shot. Dagelian forces, be advised, danger close," sang out the voice of Thunder 8-9, a helicopter that had noted the T-94 firing at a Dagelian T-74. This wouldn't really work, for him, he thought. This was an allied tank, thank you very much.

"Firing missile!"

Roskian made RATM-23 fired from the RAH-74, targetting the enemy Stasnovan tank.

Tactical overview

As the heavy fighting for South Zevgoria had been raging for three or so days, the front was stabilised. A steady frontline was established along the cities of Chekhavali and Mienta, however, Dagelian paratrooper units had taken Kokoity and several battalions were storming and capturing villages and other strategic locations around the city and in the general area. It is expected that the next Dagelian attack would be staged from Kokoity and the surrounding areas. The two Stasnovan Motor Rifle Divisions had been wholy deployed to South Zevgoria by now, and they were fully engaged in combat. Meanwhile, while the ground war continues to rage, aircraft from Stasnovan Revolutionary Air Force bases beyond the border continue to strike Dagelian positions, and when possible, high value targets such as command posts or supply routes. Numerous refugee convoys were flooding the highways leading to the Stasnovan border, something that sometimes itervered with Stasnovan military supply lines.

The Battle of Chekhavali, like Mienta, had turned into a war of attrition. Both sides were dug in heavily, and casualities were mounting, as Stasnovan and Zevgorian soldiers fought the Dagelians street to street, buidling to building, and even room to room. Several strategic areas of the city, most importantly the central plaza, the 7th of June Square, or the Chekhavali General Hospital, were heavily contested, with both sides committing whatever forces they could to capture and hold them.

The General Hospital of the city was considered strategically important because of two reasons: first, it was located on a hill in the centre of Mamayev District, the easternmost district of the capital, that overlooked the entire area. Second, the hospital could provide medical supplis to anyone holding it. The hospital was held by the 52nd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment's 156th Guards Motor Rifle Battalion, along with the 4th Artillery Battalion of the South Zevgirian Unified Armed Forces. The 156th numbered rougly 500 men in total, and had 40 BMPs, from their 45 that they originally entered the city with, along with eight automatic 82mm 2B9 Vasileks. Meanwhile, the Zevgoiran 4th Artillery Battalion, numbering around 240 personnel, was equipped with 18 D-30 122 mm towed howitzers, that were now being used as direct fire support weapons due to the proximity with the enemy. On the oppossing side, the Dagelians threw at them the 41st and 42nd Mechanized Infantry Battalions, part of the 4th Mechanised Brigade, totaling a force of above 1000 men.

Meanwhile, in the center of the Chekhavali, likes the 7th June Square, named after the date of the separatist uprising in South Zevgoria. The 7th June Square is located on the center of the city, and thusly, right next to the Gorshkov Avenue, the capital's largest, central main street, that spans from one side of Chekhavali to the other. The avenue could provide with a supply route that could accomodate a large number of vehicles easily, and it proved to be an objective that both sides would struggle for. The Stasnovans pitted the entirity of the 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, along with the Zouth Zevgorian Ryba Battalion, totally about 2600 personnel, with a variety of armoured vehicles, main battle tanks and assorted artillery. The Dagelians sent their whole 2nd Mechanised Infantry Brigade, along with several companies of Internal Troops forces, for a troop count of rougly 3600 men.

On other fronts in the city, such as the Raskolnikov Factory, a large metalurgy factory in the northern part of the capital, and the general industrial area surrounding it, the warring sides committed fewer, but not less significat forces. Outside the city, a flanking manouver by the 49th Guards Motor Rifle and the 53rd Guards Tank Regiments to the south, aiming to attack and secure the Dagelian supply routes into the city was met with heavy resistance by dug in enemy forces. The Dagelian military intelligence seemed to be working wonders lately, as the Dagelian forces stationed to protect the supply routes had established a heavy defence in preperation of the attack. In total, the Stasnovans and Dagelians had 9000 to 10000 troops fighting for Chekhavali, while the Dagelians had rougly 12000.

In Mienta, the desperate defence of the outnumbered and outgunned South Zevgorian fighters, turned into a brutal thrust into enemy lines by the arrival of the 31st Guards Motor Rifle Division. The 31st was a BMP Motor Rifle Division, meaning that two of its Motor Rifle Regiments were equipped with heavily armed BMP IFVs, while the third MRR had BTRs. The heavily armed mechanised infantry of the Stasnovans, combined with armoured support by the Divisional Tank Regiment, along with extensive close air support by Stasnovan helicopters, proved to be too much for the Dagelian light infantry. The tanks of the Dagelian 2nd Armoured Brigade that had secured the roads leading to the city, although outnumbering their Stasnovan counterparts, were outmuch by the combined arms effort of the 31st Guards Motor Rifle, and were forced to retreat to the northern and southern portions of the city's perimetre, effectively ending the encirclement of the South Zevgorian troops within Mienta. The Dagelian controlled part of Mienta, was reduced to 40% of the total of the city's area, from the previous 60%.

Chekhavali Intenrational Airport, People's Republic of South Zevgoria
2nd Guards Tank Battalion, 3rd Guards Seperate Tank Regiment
1930 hours

The battle had gone really well for the Stasnovan tankmen of the 2nd Guards Tank Battalion in the Chekhavali International Airport. Ivanov's company alone had 7 kills, and the other two companies had 16, for a total of 23 enemy tanks destroyed or disabled. In exchange, one Stasnovan T-94A from the 1st Company was disabled when the engine was hit by an APFSDS round from a Dagelian T-74Sim-1, and later another one that caused heavy damage to the suspension and tracks, and thusly, the crew was forced to abandon their beloved vehicle. Another T-94A, belonging to the 2nd Company, suffered heavy damage on its turrent, and while it could move, it was ordered to return to the village so the crew could carry out repairs. Other than that, the rest of the Stasnovan tanks suffered minor damage, but almost all of them beared the bruises of the engagement. The Dagelian tanks were inferior in every way, and despite their numercial superiority, they were outmatched by the armoured fist of the Revolutionary Army. The Dagelians also used older ammunition, like the now outdated 3BM42M APFSDS rounds, that barely did anything to the Stasnovan tanks, after most of the were deflected by the heavy ERA modules or the modular armor beneath them.

The remaining Dagelian tanks reversed fast into cover, and drove back, deeper into the airport. The Stasnovans couldn't know for sure if there was any enemy infantry in the airport, but it was decided that it would be a worthy risk to approach. Lieutenant Ivanov sipped some water from his flask and put it in a pouch on his vest. It was getting hot in the tank, despite the cold weather outside. As the autloader started loading a new shell into the gun, with its distinctive mechanical sound, Ivanov opened communications to the rest of 2nd Company.

"This is Tarakan - 3 - K to all Tarakan - 3 callsigns. Our Battalion will advance to the airport at full speed. Standby for my command."

After some moments, the order from the KomBat (Battalion Commander), Major Vasily Graziev, was given "Move out!"

"Tarakan - 1 advancing"

"Tarakan - 2 advancing" Ivanov reported as his company rolled out

"Tarakan - 3 advancing"

The Stasnovan tanks were driving towards the airport at full speed, at over 60 km/h. The diesel engines on the T-94As and the multi-fuel ones on the T-94AMs roared, as the tanks of these steel beasts sunk into the soft ground, kicking up mud, dirt and dust. The Stasnovan tankmen were expecting at least some ATGM launches from either enemy tanks or infantry in the airport. But the source came from elsewere. An ATGM launch from the right of Ivanov's tanks.

"Enemy ATGM! Right flank!" yelled Ivanov

The advanced Stena soft-kill active protection system on the tank was automatically activated. It launched several smoke grenades, concealling the tank in a aerosol smoke screen. The tank's turret, turned automatically after authorisation from the gunner, and the electro-optical/infrared dazzlers mounted on the forward part of the turrent, began jamming the enemy missile. The enemy ATGM, having lost its guidance, crashed into the ground harmlessly, away from the tank formation.

Ivanov, having switched to thermal mode on his panoramic commander's sight to be able to see from within the smoke, spotted the threat.

"Gunner, target, enemy gunship, bearing 291, fire HE-FRAG"

"On the way!"

The 125 mm gun roared as the round propelled out of it and towards the target. A rather significant ability of the T-94AM - and the T-94 in general - is its ability to engage low-flying helicopters, using its advanced fire-control system. The Ainet fuse setting system, when working in conjuction with the FCS, gives the tank the ability to detonate the HE-FRAG rounds rounds at a specific distance from the tank as determined by the gunner's laser rangefinder. The HE-Frag round would be detonated when it was within the helicopter's proximity.

Ivanov's tanks, as well as the other tank companies, started deploying their IR smokescreens as well, to conceal their movement towards the airport. If they had line of sight, the Stasnovan tanks would try to target and engage the enemy helicopters. Meanwhile, back at the village, the South Zevgorian fighter's, possessing just one Igla MANPAD and a single ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannon, decided to hide in the buildings rather than try to engage the enemy gunships. They would prepare for the are to be clear in order to advance to the airport and secure it.

Western Chekhavali, South Zevgorian People's Republic
Chrdili Battalion, Internal Troops of Dagelia
1855 hours

The sharp crack made the Dagelian soldiers lower their heads, as their comrade manning the heavy machine gun on the BRDM-1 fell dead from a bullet to the face, with half of his body hanging on the side of the vehicle. Two more soldiers fell dead from pistol fire, with two 9 mm bullets hitting their necks, as a partisan suddenly and swiftly appeared out of nowhere behind their backs. More shots rang, from another direction this time, after another pistol-armed partisan emerged from the other side of the street, and fired wildly. Another Dagelian dropped, wounded from a shot to his chest. The two "innocent" men that the Dagelian soldiers were originally inspecting, charged forwards, weilding knives.

One of these men managed to shove his knive deep into the neck of a soldier that stood right next to the coomander. The Dagelian commander, however, managed to dodge the other partisan's attack, by blocking the man's hand with his own. He kicked the partisan in the chest to make the distance between them larger, and once he found the oppurtunity, he rased his pistol to finish the bastard off. Miliseconds later, before he even managed to aim his pistol, a 7.62 mm hit him in the side of his head, piercing his helmet and crushing his skull, and the commander fell dead on the asphalt of the road.

The remaining two soldiers took some steps back and raised their rifles. One of them managed to fire a burst of his AKM at one of the partisans, before being jumped by one of their knife-wielding comrades. The other Dagelian fell wounded before getting to do anything with his weapon, as a 7.62 mm bullet hit him in his right hand, getting all the way through and piercing his ribs. He fell down on his knees, holding his sides, before colapsing, staggering.

Meanwhile, the driver of the BRDM-1 had started the engine, and started reversing out of the backstreet. As the old armoured car was desperately trying to escape, a rocket, the origin of which was uknown, impacted to the bulding next to it, slightly throwing it off course. A second rocket was more accurate, and hit the vehicle's side, violently throwing it on its side as it bursted into flames. The whole backstreet suddenly went silent.

Western Chekhavali, South Zevgorian People's Republic
4th Motor Rifle Company, 152nd Motor Rifle Battalion, 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division, 27th Guards Army
1857 hours

Lieutenant Nikolai Zhdanov along with his men, the 4th Company's 1st Platoon, were sent to patrol the rear of the 152nd Battalion, and the subsequently, of the 51st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, fighting for the 7th June Square. It was a regural combat patrol mission. The flanks of the Stasnovans were secure, and no Dagelian units could get through, however, small platoons or squads of infiltratiors, mostly Dagelian military intelligence troops could sometimes slip past the Stasnovan patrols and defences. And so, the Regiment had ordered all of its battalions to regurarly send combat patrols to guard their rear and flanks. Something that had the soldiers whinning.

The 1st Platoon was patrolling a street, when the heard gunshots from a backstreet next to their patrol route, and they immedeately went to check it. It could have just been the militia trying to scare some looters, or maybe some scavengers fighting amongst themselves for the loot. It could have even been an armed civilian trying to get rid of the dogs or other stray animals that were trying to find selter in this carnage of gunfire and explosions from artillery shells. At once, the 27-man platoon moved into an alleyway that they assumed to be leading to the backstreet. As they were moving closer, with their weapons raised, checking every window of the buidlings they passed by, the soldiers could even hear groaning and screaming.

They had finally reached the edge of the alley, and Zhdanov poked his head from the corner to see what was happening. He saw an old BRDM-1 with no markings trying to reverse in the narrow backstreet, and some bodies and standing figures further down the road. South Zevgorian vehicles always have the milita markings on them he thought

"Kulikov!" he shouted and the soldier came running down the alleyway besides his comrades that were lying crouched on each side of the alley, with two RPG-18 disposable rocket launchers on his back.

"Sir?"

"There's an enemy BRDM. Take point with the Mukha" ordered Zhdanov.

Kulikov, a 27 year-old corporal took one of the RPG-18s from his back and stood behind the corner.

"Now!" Zhdanov ordered as the BRDM approached.

Kulikov emerged from the corner and fired the RPG-18. The rocket missed, and instead hit a building next to the vehcle, tossing bricks and concrete around.

"Blyat!" the corporal cursed as he tossed the empty tube aside, and prepared to take a shot with the other RPG-18.

The Dagelian BRDM-1 showed up from the corder, driving in reverse, and fast. Kulikov tried to calm down and focus. He had the bastard on his sight. After some moments, the enemy vehicle was now no more than 15 metres from him. Kulikov pressed the trigger. The BRDM was hit by the rocket right of its left side, that bursted open in a hail of flames. The impact was so strong that the vehicle was thrown on its side, and crushed on a rusty dumpster of the side of the backroad.

"Let's move!" ordered Zhdanov and the platoon got on its feet. The first squad of nine exited the alley and scanned the area, with the rest 18 soldiers moving out after them. After a quick check, it was determined that the BRDM's crew, two men, were dead. However, another thing caught Zhdanov's attention. The shady figures on the other end of the backstreet. He gave some commands with his hands, and the platoon started moving forward in a tight formation, with their weapons raised. As they approached them men, Zhdanov raised his hand, ordering his men to stop.

"Identify yourselfs!" he ordered the men in front of him.

In the People's Republic of South Zevgoria
The White Rose Group and The Gray Banner Organization

Anthea, Ariel and Arella were staring at one another with eyes that had no trust and eyes that were full, full of caution, as they pointed their guns at one another, Ariel and Arella pointing at Anthea, the opposite pointing at the other opposite.

And their soldiers were also doing the same, the White Rose against the Gray Banner...in this country that was torn by war.

They were upon a market in the country, far away from the opposing nations for now though. They were not yet in any path of any harm but they would soon be if they do not move soon.

The women and men who were at arms for money were opposing each other, tensions rising until Anthea said

"Parley, my countrymen, parley."

And at this, Ariel said

"Parley accepted."

And both parties put down their weapons and relaxed. Even the leaders.

After some tense, tense silence, the mercenaries negotiated

WR means White Rose and GB means Gray Banner.

WR asked GB about their business here. GB states their business. WR states theirs too. GB warns WR about their business. WR acknowledges but prefers to continue the job. GB suggests something else but does not tell the details yet. WR asks. GB suggests GB and WR combine forces to fight Stasnov, as Stasnov are commies and GB and WR had a history together of fighting commmies before they became enemies due to a few missions before and due to this. WR and GB support the suggestion. WR questions what they shall be referred to. GB suggests WR have the honor of naming their forces. WR accepts honor and so WR created this alliance of mercenaries

The Organization of White and Black.

Then they went their way and began to establish a proper base in the market, expanding to a few apartments. The Organization also sent a team of women to the forces of South Zevgoria, wishing to establish communications with them personally if the teams that the Organization has now won't be able to communicate with South Zevgoria via radio or Internet, both were encrypted and safeguarded so that the mercs won't be discovered too early.

Meanwhile, their outer leaders and parts have informed their inner parts in South Zevgoria that reinforcements will arrive in a few hours so the mercs will have to commmunicate with SZ (South Zevgoria) and make sure they won't be attacked or discovered until help comes.

Using tools and improvisation, the mercs were in the process of creating their very first base in this nation that was strange to them but familiar in some way because the mercs have done things like this in other nations. Azen mercs were to be known for behaving like nations.
