That was a muddled sentence with the Vikings. But basically, the Vikings overthrew the Umayyads, set up an Empire, and relegated the Arabs to administrative roles while the native peasants slaved away. After a whole huge mess and a succession crisis that wiped out a tenth of the population, the monarchy took on a Stalinist bent, got smacked in an uprising which was swiftly hijacked by one of its own, went super duper Stalinist, briefly transferred to a democracy with endemic corruption and unofficial abuse of power, was overthrown by the last heir to the old Imperial line who then went populist and waffled on how overtly authoritarian to be while simultaneously keeping everything under control through horrible conformism and nationalist interventions in other countries. Said last heir shot the last democratic president, who happened to be the heir of the line that got ousted in the succession crisis, on national TV and took down the Parliament building with a giant mech. This worked for a bit until the unifying identity bit went too far and the Egoists started blowing up buildings, overthrowing colonial governments, shooting people on national TV and setting up radical anarchistic communes. The Egoists fought the power until an internal coup attempt by one Egoist faction masquerading as pro-democratic forces screwed up a Communist plot to overthrow the regime from the inside by making it unbearably horrid. Then there was a mess, the Prime Minister got stabbed on national TV, and the Empress cleverly did an image change so she could coopt the majority of the Egoists and send them to other people's countries, making colonialism easier. That worked for a bit until a small splinter faction of Egoists managed to find some old fart that used to be a General in the swamp. They then convinced him to take control of history, become the peasant space christ, and lead the people to victory. He started gathering a ninja army, so all the major government officials got together to talk shop in the government HQ/giant fortress. That worked until said Egoists blew up the powder magazine, Peasant Space Christ and his ninja army smacked the Imperial Army and its mecha corps, and pro-democrat military officers in the Imperial Guard launched a coup. All the Imperials died. Democracy happened, but Imperial loyalists/Strasserite populists won a minority government. Everyone else was all like "fuck no" and started burning car tires. There was a civil war between the Strasserite imperial loyalists, who named the genocidal maniac nationalist king of another country as the heir to the throne, and the rest, backed by the Egoists and the ninja buddhist peasant army. Peasant Space Christ didn't want to take control of no country because he thought that if he did the inevitable result was another shitty empire. So he went back to his swamp to become one with the cosmos. Meanwhile, the democrats, along with the Egoists, a whole bunch of proto-Communist militias, and a coalition of people who fucking hated the king that the Strasserites chose grouped around his sister, smacked the Strasserites in the civil war, then went and dethroned the Asshole King for good measure using an invasion army of thirty million really angry people.

Then there was an election. Democrats won a minority, but the Communists teamed up with the Egoists who went LibSoc, the peasant ninjas,a bunch of refugee Communists who fled Strasserites in one of the world's few other super power countries, and the Strasserites masquerading as left populists to form a government. They hold elections, but they don't mean shit because nobody fucks with Egoists and peasant ninjas.

Now we're all Commies. But the crypto-Strasserites hate the Egoists, the Commies hate the bourgeoisie and a fair number of internal enemies including Socialists and people who buy expensive cars, the Egoists hate each other and are currently having a rather heated discussion about whether or not they should be blowing up cars again just about now, and the democrats have basically given up. The pro-democratic military cabal, now known as the Coalition for the Defence of the Republic, is doing shady ultranationalist things in conjunction with Red Mercy, a subsidiary of the internationalist/socialist terror organization known as the Children of Equality to bring down capitalism, foreign foes, and firebenders. None of these factions except for the CDR/Red Mercy/CoE have agreement on whether or not Istanistan should be bombing other countries or focussing on hanging domestic enemies from highly convenient lamp-posts and cranes. The Imperial loyalists/Strasserite die-hards are still blowing things up, which gives the Egoists sexual frustration because ever since they became mainstream they lost their mojo.

Yes. I'm serious.
