Screams and jeers echoed off the buildings on either side of the dark street. But they were drowned out by hundreds of boots clanging down on the pavement. The Communists were coming. Already most of the government officials in Kongsberg had evacuated, but a thin line of policemen stood firm, blocking the road. The Socialists stopped several feet in front of them. "Get out of our way.", one broad-chested rebel threatened at the commanding officer. The officer raised his shotgun. "Go home. The Governor has no time for protestors and filth-" dozens of shots rang out, and the policeman jerked back, then collapsed. The other policeman either ran or fired back. A few minutes later the Communists continued their march, leaving 2 dozen mutilated corpses behind them. When they reached the Governor's mansion, they found 60-70 soldiers blocking their path. The Communist leader again said,"Get out of our way." The leader of the soldiers, a weed-like old man in an officer's uniform said nothing for several minutes. Finally he shouted,"FIRE!". Machine guns blasted out, and the first 3 ranks of Communists fell to the ground. The rest fired back. 15 soldiers reeled back and fell to the ground. 5 more ran away. Several Communist machine gunners came up to the front line and 20 more soldiers fell. Finally the last 10 soldiers ran into the cover of the fountain in front of the mansion. A bazooka made short work of the fountain, and sent bodies flying. Kicking the old officer aside, the Communists ran into the mansion and killed the governor and his family, before burning the palace to the ground.

Meanwhile in Orangetown, the Dutch Freedom Front(DFF) was burning several Capilean officials at the stake. "Look at these pigs, who for so long oppressed us! Now it's time to fight back!"

The Duke was saddened by the death all around him, and ordered a full scale mobilization. In addition, he called for help from the world.

Communist troops have surrounded Rochefort with 65,000 men, while the 2nd Reserve Korps of only 20,000 troops bravely holds them back. Meanwhile 3,000 Dutch troops have embarked from Isla De Hues(the small island near the top of the map) and are attempting to meet up with 20,000 Dutch troops coming from Orangetown. The 1st Reserve Korps of 70,000 troops is holding the Dutch off. Another 30,000 Dutch troops are advancing west from Orangetown, while 100,000 Communist troops are almost trained. Meanwhile the government is mobilizing the 1st and 2nd Army Korps and is recalling it's 1st and 2nd Expeditionary Korps.

The Kirovograd slipped silently through the night, radar room buzzing with activity. A large Orange fleet had been spotted, sailing southward, but they seem to have failed to spot the aging landing ship. Isla De Hues lay ahead, and D-Day was approaching.

It was a gamble, but it had worked. The announcement of the Marine's deployment to Mariupol, a move the whole world expected, had been nothing but a ploy. Now, the hard part: taking an island for the first time in Ukrainain Marine's history. It was a tall order. Delyatytskyy knew it, and the thought made him queasy. He lit a cigarette. "Is the port withing range yet?"

"Yes, sir!" A lieutenant replied.

Delyatytskyy stroked his stubble. "Very good. All stop! Open landing doors and deploy BTR-80s!"

Very well. We believe that the DFF have established a military HQ there, and reconnaissance reports that there could be anywhere from 500-2,000 troops there. They have set up bunkers around the coastline, but their recruits have barely been trained, and I think you should have no problem taking the island.

Today the Communists announced that they had set up a new government in Kongsberg. Seeing this the DFF has also taken steps to form a government.

The small Dutch garrison on Isla De Hues were mostly sleeping. Only about 100 men manned the hastily built concrete bunkers that dotted the coast. The few officers on duty in the control room and failed to notice any enemy movement. Suddenly explosions rocked all over. Ukrainian troops swarmed the beach. The few men in the bunkers managed to buy enough time for the other 800 Dutch nationalists to grab their weapons and run to some trenches. Meanwhile the bunkers had been mostly cleared out but a few equipped with flamethrowers, managed to keep back the enemy marines. The first major battle of the war was starting.

The BTR-80's roared onto the beach, guns blazing as they fired at the small concrete bunkers. The first group of four BTR's, roared inland, whilst the second group used it's fire to supress the small bunkers that dotted the shoreline. Their orders where simple: flank the enemy, drive to their headquarters, surround the building, and force capitulation. Short, simple, surgical. But the defenders where fighting for their homes, and what's more outnumbered the Ukranians. It would take more than APC's to take the island. Lt. Alca, commander of the second squad, radioed the Kirovograd. "Resistance heavy, fire support needed!"

The BM-14 140mm rocket launchers on the fore deck of the U401 Kirovograd where crawling with crewmen, loading, aiming, inspecting. Then, a klaxon sounded, and they scrambled back into the bowls of the ship. For amoment, silence. Then, the unmistakable scream of the Katyusha filled the air, as the man made comets streaked towards their target, eerily illuminating the stillness of the island's main harbor.

The Dutch commandeer, Col. Herb Englebert, screamed at his subordinates. "Why in the world weren't you looking at those radars!""Well, sir...I..."Enough excuses! I-" suddenly the deafening sound of rockets filled the air. Englebert whirled around. The last bunkers were being completely blown apart from rockets. Englebert had already signaled the DFF fleet. 3 destroyers, a cruiser, and 2 submarines would be here any minute. And behind them was a convoy carrying a relief force of 1,400 troops. If they could just hold out... The few survivors from the beach fled up into the Dutch positions. The 800 troops in the trenches were firing down onto the beach, along with 3 mortar teams. The Dutch had numbers, but the Ukrainians had experience. Just a little longer...

Report on the Current Situation:
The DFF have officially declared themselves independent, and have set up a capital and government in Orangetown. A Dutch task force consisting of 3 destroyers, 2 submarines, and 1 cruiser, as well as 1,400 troops, as a relief force to Isla De Hues. The island has vast deposits of uranium, and the DFF don't want the government to have access to it. Due to Ukrainian involvement, the Dutch have halted their assault on New Marseilles, and are now fortifying themselves. Meanwhile, the Communists now have 89,000 troops besieging 12,000 Monarchist troops in Rochefort, while a flanking force of 32,000 Communists are trying to cut across the middle of the island towards Saxtonberg. The Capilean 2nd Army Korps is marching to counter them, while the 1st is trying to relieve Rochefort.

Unlike the Dutch, the Ukranian's where watching their radar. Delyatytskyy ground his cigarette into the floor. The Dutch fleet was heading home, straight towards them. The Kirovograd was not a fast sailor, so there was little to no change of escape. They were close, damn close, to winning. The two groups of BTR's where now rolling on the paved road of the island, on group heading for the Dutch Government House and the other for the Army Barracks.

The boarding team from the 73rd Special Operations Unit a total of six men, and eased their small boat up onto the ever quieter beach head. Before them stood a squat concrete bunker, scared by machine gun fire but otherwise unharmed. Slowly, the crept down the rear facing stairwell, and thorugh the door, blown off it's hinges by a granade. The large control room was full of anonymous knife switches, and a series of montiors showing various views the harbor's entrance. A dinner, still steaming, was laid out on a table in the corner. "VBSS to Kirvograd. We have located the harbor's mine control room. Permission to energize mine field?"

20 light bombers and 50 fighter jets began to take off from the airfields. Unfortunately the Capilean navy was too far away to intercept the Dutch.

The Dutch commander, determined to defend this island, began shouting orders to everyone. A full evacuation of the HQ took place. 300 troops were left at strategic crossroads with bazookas to blast enemy vehicles. The rest, including the officers, retreated to the elaborate system of underground bunkers(which were constructed before the war), along with many civilians. The bunkers were very cleverly hidden, and the Dutch waited for their reinforcements.

Meanwhile, the Dutch fleet began to pull into the harbor.
"Still no sign of the landing craft-" suddenly the entire fleet exploded, sending debris and corpses everywhere. The few survivors scrambled ashore. The Dutch troop convoy, only a few minutes behind the fleet, witnessed the whole thing. Carefully the transports pulled into the harbor. Even so, several mines went off. As the last transport was pulling in, Capilean fighters and bombers whizzed overhead, dropping bombs onto the transports. Only 350 of the 1,400 man task force made it onto the shore. 50 of the Dutch reinforcements began to fortify themselves in the harbor's buildings, while the rest set off to meet the Ukrainian forces.

The Kirovograd's four 30mm cannons roared to life, raining fire into the DUtch transports that had penetrated the harbor. The first group of BTR's was pinned down by fire from the retreating Dutch, and two vehicles where knocked out, and the survivors had fled down the road leading back into the town. The second group, however, had succeeded in penetrating the island's town in all the confusion, and had captured the Island's governor. Now, three of the APC's had turned back towards the beech, and linked up with the survivors of the first group, while a single BTR guarded the government house.

"Hello? Is this thing on? Yes? Good." the Dutch governor cleared his throat. "Hello there, everyone. This is the Governor. As some of you may have noticed, tonight we have been invaded by Ukraine. I have been captured by Ukranians. They want me to tell you that, if we surrender, they will treat us humanely, and that all Dutch troops will be allowed to withdraw unharmed from their positions if they agree to throw down their weapons. Well, I would like to tell you, my loyal citizens, that I have agreed to there terms of surrender. AT NINE O'CLOCK DUTCH TIME ILSLA DE HUES HAS CAPITULATED TO THE ARMED FORCES OF UKRAINE. All military units under command of Col. Herb Englebert, who is by my authority as colonial governor is my subordinate, and all other Dutch forces are ordered to lay down their arms. The Ukrainians have captured the town, and as I wish to prevent civilian bloodshed occurring due to forces battling over the town I have requested, received, and duly adopted terms of surrender."

Currently in route, this is the first time they will be used in combat. The Genoan peoples congress is also voting on sending a light armoured group via airdrop, likely to consist of the feared wasp light tank (again in my factbook)

Colonel Englebert sighed as he listened to the broadcast. "Why the hell didn't someone get the governor out of there!" "The town hall was surrounded sir." The Col. sighed again. "FIne. Order all of our troops to lay down their arms. Raise a white flag over our bunker. "
The DFF regiments, one by one, laid down their arms. But not all listened to them. Around 150 DFF soldiers continue to lay low and harass Ukrainian supply lines, even though multiple Dutch officials have ordered them to surrender. The Dutch troops who did surrender await Ukrainian replies.

Meanwhile, the siege of Rochefort has taken a turn for the worse. The 2nd Reserve Korps, after losing almost half of their men, have been pushed back into the harbor of the city. Attempts to relieve the Korps by air have been repulsed by strong communist anti-air defenses.
