Helensted sells Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Karelia, and Denmark!
This month the United Kingdom of Helensted sold all of the territories gained from the United Scandinavian Archipelago's collapse. Edmund Gray, our Archduke, sold Karelia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to Greater Valdosta for five trillion dollars, and he sold Denmark to Falas Doriath in trade for Newfoundland. The gaining of Newfoundland from Falas Doriath marks the creation of a new Helenstedian duchy, the duchy of Newfoundland. We hope the deals with these nations marks the beginning of a time of friendship. Stay tuned for more info.

Helensted transitions from Grand Duchy to United Kingdom!
This week marks the first week of Helensted's transition from a Grand Duchy to a United Kingdom. Archduke Edmund Gray, now given the title "Prime Minister," explained his reasoning for the transition this morning. He stated that "...Helensted is simply too large to be a Grand Duchy, the "Grand Duchy" title was given to us when all we owned was England and Normandy, but times are different now. For here on out Helensted will be known as a United Kingdom..." Stay tuned for more info.

Helensted Doesn't Join the war on Terror Yet!
Following Helensted's transition to a United Kingdom, the Prime Minister Edmund Gray also announced that Helensted "...would not be joining any wars soon, including the war on terror, and will try to remain friends with all the nations of the world..." The Prime Minister's words are clear, Helensted will not be joining the war on terror unless Helensted itself is threatened by the Sunni Terrorists. Although the Prime Minister isn't joining any foreign wars in the year to come, he has stationed 1,000 Helenstedian Royal Peacekeepers to Azerbaijani Caucasus to help aid the civilians there. Elections for President Coming Up

Incumbent Peter Shmulin(Democrat) is being challenged by Scott Milne(R) for the position of President of Nova Vermontia. Polls show that both have relatively even amounts of support. The election is to take place today.

In an incredible landslide, Scott Milne, the challenger, has won 63% of the vote, ousting the current incumbent Peter Shumlin, who had a meager 41% approval rating during the election. Milne promises to be tough on crime, keep the budget balanced, pay off more national debt, and reform the currency, changing it so that there are no more greenbacks and precious metal coins are used for currency.

Bill in Congress

A new bill has entered congress, stating that Nova Vermontia will join the United Kingdom of Helensted and Greater Valdosta(UKHGA)and enter into it's system of government. The bill passed the senate 28-2 and the House 102-48. Scott Milne has signed this bill into law.

The Government of InvincibleByzantium has been set up in then nation of Greece and the city of Constantinople(Istanbul). The Government asks other nations to open up trade with the nation. Also, the Government of InvincibleByzantium has created a Senate, which citizens elect people to represent them.

Expansion to Cyprus.

The Government of InvincibleByzantium, led by Emperor Theodosius, has begun a small expansion attempt. It has sent 10,000 of it's 600,000 soldiers to the island of Cyprus, in order to take it over and use it as a port to influence trade in the area. The 10,000 soldiers are transported via 3 transport ships and 2 destroyers which guard the transports. The soldiers land and begin a campaign on the island, which is meagerly defended. The soldiers land at Larnca and split off to march northwards and southwards, with 5,000 going each way. The troops make steady progress, and defeat the meager police forcers there. Eventually, the soldiers take control of the island.

The Battle for Azerbaijan Rages on!

Following the successful Nova Vermontian and Azerbaijani penetration of the Sunni army, the Sunnis sent 10,000 soldiers, a few hundred of which were armed with RPGs, to destroy the Nova Vermontian and Azerbaijanis that are now separated from the main force of Nova Vermontians and Azerbaijanis. Being completely outnumbered, the Nova Vermontian and Azerbaijani forces can only hope to hold until reinforcements from the main line comes to their aid. The situation is dire, and as of now 300 Azerbaijanis have been killed, along with the destruction of 6 Nova Vermontian armoured vehicles. It is clear that the situation needs to be reassessed before any further action is taken, and if the situation doesn't change Azerbaijan may be lost to the Sunnis.

Decisive Action

After the reinforcement of the 10,000 Sunnis, the 2nd Tank Battalion and 1,000 Azerbaijani soldiers have taken significant losses. In order to destroy the Sunnis the 15th and 19th Infantry Divisions, each with 25,000 Infantry and 5 Armored Vehicles, totaling 50,000 men. The troops make an attack on the right flank of the Sunnis, as the Terrorists make a charge on the line of the 2nd Tank Battalion. The terrorists take significant losses due to this surprise attack, losing 2,500 infantry while the 15th and 19th Divisions lose a total of 1,400 men. This attack scares the terrorists into retreating. The 19th Division commences a pursuit of the terrorists.

After Nova Vermontia successfully shocked the Sunni army with a quick strike, Azerbaijan and Nova Vermontia are put into a great position to strike at the Sunnis. Yusef Agababayov, the supreme commander of the remaining Azerbaijani forces, suggests that the Azerbaijani and Nova Vermontian forces launch a massive final strike on the remaining 36,600 armed Sunni personnel. Agababayov warned the Nova Vermontians to expect major casualties from both sides, but if the strike is done successfully, the Sunni army could be utterly crippled, giving Azerbaijan a few years to form a stable government and military.

The Nova Vermontian 5th Army High Command agree to this plan. The soldiers to be sent into combat are those of the 16th and 22nd Infantry Divisions, which total 50,000 soldiers. An Air Strike is launched on a Sunni Armored Column, destroying 5 tanks and vehicles and frightening the terrorists. Then, the 16th and 22nd Divisions as well as the remaining Azerbaijanis begin a massive attack on the left flank of the Sunni forces, in a an effort to punch a big hole into the enemy lines.

Victory!

The 50,000 soldiers of the 16th and 22nd Divisions as well as several hundred Azerbaijanis begin the attack! First, the 150 artillery pieces begin a bombardment of a large Sunni line, destroying 3 armored vehicles and killing or wounding 400 soldiers. Afterwards, led by the 10 Armored Vehicles, the soldiers begin a large attack on the Sunni line. The Sunni line, despite being weakened, still has machine gunners which mow down several infantry, killing 1,300. However, the Armored Vehicles destroy the majority of machine guns and run down many soldiers. The remaining 20,000 sunnis become disorganized and weakened and cannot hold themselves against overwhelming numbers and technology. Despite heavy losses, the 16th and 22nd Divisions take over the defensive line and the remainder of the disorganized Sunnis retreat. ''It was hell..but we won, that is what matters in the end.'' one soldier said.

By the time the Valdostan police recovered in Rome all hope was lost for them, the Italians had seized the city, and today marks the fall of German dominance over Italy.

Declaration of Support for the Italians

The government of InvincibleByzantium, led by Theodosius I, has declared support for the Italian rebellion. It has sent 100,000 soldiers to the city of Ancona on the eastern coast of Italy. The troops also have 100 tanks and 400 Armored Vehicles. The 100,000 soldiers land with surprisingly little resistance, as the majority of Valdostans have retreated. Afterwards, the soldiers meet up with the Italian nationalists in order to prepare an attack plan. The Byzantines also provide the rebels with weapons and equipment.

The successful liberation of the new capital of The Union of United Italian Peoples, Roma, has sent shock waves of hope around Italy for the Italian peoples. More and more Italians join the Italian Union every day, and soon Italy will finally be in the hands of the Italian peoples! Major revolts have risen up in Napoli, Potenza, Brindisi, Palermo, Catania, Orvieto, and Pisa. The revolution is estimated to spread to Northern Italy by the end of the month. Alongside the massive revolts in the southern cities of Italy, many of the Italian farmers (whom have been supplying Greater Valdosta with most of their crop supply) have decided to stop giving their crops to the Valdostan menace.

100,000 armed Italian nationalists have barricaded all of the major road systems entering Italy from Valdosta, they are instructed to force all peoples entering Italy without an Italian license plate to turn around and head back to Germany! The rest of our armed Italian nationalists have been scattered around Italy to perform guerrilla attacks against the Valdostans.

Our most successful revolt this week was near the city of Palermo in Sicily, there, a group of Italian nationalists stormed a popular tourist destination, a nude beach near Palermo, and captured the Valdostan vice president, who was spending vacation sunbathing in Sicily. The 100,000 Byzantines have met up with the core of the Italian resistance in Rome, and give them more modern weapons, as well as 100 Armored Vehicles. Afterwards, the commander of the Byzantines, Basil, meets up with the Italian command and prepares to organizes an attack plan into northern Italy.

Rebuilding Azerbaijan

Following the victory over the Sunni army in south Azerbaijani, the Azerbaijan government has time to stabilize itself and its military. The Azerbaijani people demand democracy, and the Azerbaijani government requests that foreign countries help Azerbaijan introduce democracy to her people. Many cities have been damaged or totally destroyed in the fighting, and it is estimated that these cities won't be rebuilt until Azerbaijan acquires the money to rebuild these cities. More and more volunteers are taking up arms across the Azerbaijan country, motivated by the defeat of the Sunnis. The Azerbaijani army, now has about 50,000 armed soldiers ready for combat. Azerbaijan thanks Nova Vermontia dearly, and asks how Azerbaijan can ever repay Nova Vermontia for their heroic actions.

Aid Sent to Azerbaijani Caucus

After the defeat of the Sunni terrorists, the government of Nova Vermontian has sent 700 million dollars to the nation, mainly to rebuild infrastructure and provide education to re-educate and rehabilitate people so that they may become useful to society. The 5th Army, currently residing in Azerbaijani Caucasus has begun a withdrawal. However, 1000 trainers, 20 trainer planes, and 5 Armored Vehicles have been left to be given to Azerbaijani Caucasus. Also, 50 soldiers have been temporarily left in order to ensure the next election is uncorrupted and will be a fair one for all.

Silver Purchase

The government of Nova Vermontia has made a large silver purchase of 5,000,000 Dollars(338,066 ounces). This has increased the price of silver significantly and has given Nova Vermontia more financial reserves. These 5,000,000 Dollars were taken out of the Social Policy budget, since the majority of politicians in Congress agreed that finances were more important then Social Policy. ''Now, we can finally begin to increase our reserves and prepare ourselves if an international currency collapses.'' President Scott Milne said

Nova Auraluxia Withdraws from Italy
Today, troops from Italy returned home, with zero casualties. There was a rumor about the UUIP wanting to expand out of Italy, virtually confirmed by the acceptance of its new ally. Inge Nur, an Auraluxian infantry said the following...

So I was technically there, gazing at Rome the entire time. The capital was razed and heavily damaged thanks to guerrilla fighting, what were we fighting for I asked. Thankfully, today we are returning home, the Valdostans already made peace with UUIP, yet the UUIP kept attacking innocent Valdostans. I thus condemn the UUIP and its policies.

NAMTO Reveals the Wunderwaffe
A toy which became popular in Nova Auraluxia after the Liberation Wars gave NAMTO a game changing idea. A large railroad gun that can fire dense magnetic objects using electromagnets is being constructed. As of now, NAMTO revealed that the prototype can launch objects into orbit, however that the problem is that it isn't precise enough, and narrowly avoided hitting a city in New Zealand. Further prototypes will be smaller to prevent possible disaster. As of now, NAMTO is struggling and bickering to come up with a name for this new project.

Italian Independence Granted!
The German state of Greater Valdosta granted Italy independence following the successful uprising across Italy. Today, for the first day in hundreds of years, the Italian flag flies in the major cities across Italy. All remnants of Valdostan culture and government buildings have been marked for burning, annihilation, and destruction. The Vice President of Greater Valdosta, including all Valdostan citizens still loyal to the Valdostan cause, have been safely transported outside of Italy. The government of Italy is ran by two consuls, one elected by the Senate of Italy, and the other elected by the people of Italy. The current two consuls are Bruno di Pasquia, and Demetrio Abatangelo. The current leading political party in Italy is "the Union," or "the Union of United Italian Peoples." The capital of Italy has been appointed as Rome, where the spirit of the old Roman Empire still thrives. Italy now looks for allies in this brave new world.
