Elections in Opidanni-Sauvira for the House of Commons

The year is 1857 and the Kingdom of Opidanni-Sauvira is holding its first Elections for the House of Commons. His Majesty, the king Eoin Arjuna, seeing the progressive decline of the totalitarian monarchies, announced in the previous year that every Opidanni-Sauviran citizen over 18 years old would have a chance to influence the course of the country for the next 4 years.
The newly constituted House of Commons is a democratically elected body (contrary to the Council of Elders, the upper house) consisting of 230 members, known as Members of Parliament. Forms a Government the Party or the Alliance which occupies 116 seats of the House, being its leader appointed Prime Minister. The parties competing for the seats, for the first time in the History of Opidanni-Sauviran, are:

Conservative Party

Under the leadership of the brilliant Ciarán Skandra, Marquis of Corbonek, who has served as King’s Councillor when the transition from Absolute to Liberal Monarchy was made, CP is a centre-right party which supports that democratic capitalism, the market economy, limited forms of government regulation and strong private property rights will benefit the people of Opidanni-Sauvira in the mid-term by promoting a wealthy, healthy, ambitious and educated society. The Conservative supporters are spread through all classes of the society, but middle and grande bourgeoisie constitutes their main enthusiasts, especially those who have participation in chartered companies.
Some claim that Lord Skandra tried to persuade His Majesty to appoint him as Prime Minister during the preparation year for the elections, despite his denials. What is factual, however, is that the CP leader has surrounded himself with men experienced in the political games, convincing them to abandon their former parties and join his. How this process was conducted is still unclear.

National Mysticist Movement

The National Mysticist Movement, presided by the eccentric professor of theology, philosopher and poet Lochan Egoz, supports a kind of nationalism in which the nation is raised to the status of numen or divinity and which promotes a mystical veneration of the nation as a transcendent truth, as well as its King as an Avatar of the Gods, merging, this way, politics and religion - the National Mysticism. NMM, being a somewhat liberal party, stresses also the importance of politics that promotes civil society and anti-federalism, along with religious, regional and national identity. Despite some rumours – mainly spread by its opposition – NMM is not a belligerent party, it strongly supports union and communion of the different peoples.
Egoz is close to the most mysterious and esoteric sector of the Clergy, which could arise some suspicion. However, the professor and his party is also well-seen by the Crown and supported by some intellectuals of the high nobility. Contrary to some claims, NMM affirms that religious tolerance should be brought to the spotlight and religious discussions should be encouraged.

Popular Socialist League

Led by Dwyn Aravind, Earl of Yaksha, a well-known economist strongly supported by the small and middle bourgeoisie, mainly the ones who own lands in the interior, PSL is a center-left democratic socialist and social-democratic party which supports social welfare provision paid for from progressive taxation, as well as a social corporatist economy involving the institutionalization of a social partnership system between capital and labour economic interest groups, with Crown oversight to resolve disputes between the two factions. The socialist party promises to bet on the industrialization of several areas of Opidanni-Sauvira, as well as on a mass agricultural mechanisation.
Initially, Progressive Dissidence was a faction of PSL under the name of Legion of Hope but as time went by, several disagreements – mainly related with monetary funds for the campaign – ended up splitting these two political forces, with Dissident saying PSL leader “do not have political principles . . . only short-term opportunism allied with a capacity for mass-delusion”.

Progressive Dissidence

The Progressive Dissidence is a classically described “utopian socialist” group that suggests the establishment of a vanguard party under the leadership of the charismatic Agni Drust. Despite being called communists by other political forces, the PD doesn't believe any form of class struggle or political revolution is necessary for socialism to emerge, rather that people of all classes can voluntarily adopt their plan for society if it is presented convincingly, since their goal is the improvement of the condition of every member of society. They feel their form of cooperative socialism can be established among like-minded people within the existing culture, and that their small communities can demonstrate the feasibility of their plan for society. It is widely believed that this party may suggest constitutional revisions for a Republican transition, but this is not admitted by any of Progressive Dissidence members. Furthermore, there is an obscure, more extreme faction more aligned with the so-called “scientific socialism” which might lurk in the shadow, waiting for the party to gain power.

Traditionalist Action

With the prodigious Cynwrig Kadungon, Duke of Falias as frontman, TA is a right-wing social conservative party mostly composed of noblemen and aristocrats who hold dear their traditions and ways of living. The Traditionalist Action is associated with the well-known Dún Ailinne Social Club and the Royal Guard Club, having as militants the most illustrious members of the Opidanni-Sauviran society. Under the duke’s leadership, TA strongly supports the collaboration between the State and private initiative to improve the economy and public services. Rather than install pure capitalism, TA’s goal is to reform it in order to align this system with the ethical ideals of social justice and so avoiding the creation of an alternative socialist economic system. Lord Kadungon is willing to allow some market regulation to a certain extent, mainly if the intervention serves moral or cultural aims. Its strong bond with the Royal Family and the Monarchic Traditions makes this party a strong political force.

Unfallen Kingdom

The Unfallen Kingdom is a fundamentalist religious group closely associated with the more orthodox sector of the Clergy. The party proposes the eradication of any kind of faith that is not the official religion of Opidanni-Sauvira. UK also suggests making religious rituals compulsory for the population as a mean of achieving social harmony. The underlying argument is that Faith will solve every kind of social issue that presently exists in the country, from poverty, through donations and solidarity, to drug trafficking, through conversion of the addicted and dealers. Its frontman is the magnetic and intense Galahad of Killaraus, a former missionary who abandoned his position in the Clergy to serve society as a politician. UK’s support is scarce in the country, being its main maecenas the Lords of Avalon Isle, a powerful and ancient noble family which has gained favour with the Clergy over the time by donating huge sums of money and extensive lands to the Church. Part of the rural population supports them as well, perhaps due to the strong propaganda Unfallen Kingdom can spread from temples.

The run for the seats at the House of Commons is intensifying. The first debate of the round opposed Lord Dwyn Aravind, leader of the Popular Socialist League, and Agni Drust, frontman of the Progressive Dissidence.
The fiercer topic was, without a doubt, the industrialization plan that the socialists have for the rural areas. While the Earl of Yaksha defended that access to rural areas should be facilitated to the private capital in order to start industrialization, PD's leader argued that the only objective of the private capital is to make profit, so they would not avoid exploiting the poorly educated and needy population in order to achieve their goals.


We won't build a better economy by turning our back on the free market, we will do it by making sure that the market is fair as well as free. While, of course, there is a role for government, for regulation and intervention, the real solution is more enterprise, competition and innovation. In this debate about the kind of industrialization and the agricultural mechanisation we want to see happening in such rural areas, my position is clear: I believe that open markets and free enterprise are the best imaginable force for improving human wealth and happiness. They are the engine of progress, generating the enterprise and innovation that lifts people out of poverty and gives them opportunity. And I would go further: where they work properly, open markets and free enterprise can actually promote morality. Why? Because they create a direct link between contribution and reward, between effort and outcome. In this case, free market will also assure a transparent business, contrary to the ultra-regulated market suggested by my Adversary, where suspects of corruption may arise when a certain person or group gain the control of the industrialization/mechanisation process.
The creation of a social partnership between capital and labour interest groups in the industrial enterprise of the rural areas of Opidanni-Sauvira is the right way to follow. The usage of both the will to invest and the desire to work for better life conditions is the key to open the vault where Prosperity is being kept. It is our duty to ensure that this treasure is distributed to everyone, including the people that live in the interior. – Lord Dwyn Aravind


The problems of the rural areas in Opidanni-Sauvira are similar to those of the underdeveloped regions in the rest of the planet. The world has been divided among the monopolistic interests. Who would dare deny this historic truth? These interests do not want to see the development of countries, areas or the people themselves, they are focused on nothing but finances. And the sooner they recover or amortize the capital invested, the better. We need to conquer our own freedom. And what is freedom, you ask. Freedom, sovereignty, self-determination… It does not consist just in the possession of a flag, a coat of arms and an anthem. To be truly independent is not only to be politically free, but also to have economical self-determination. Facilitating the access to rural areas for the monopolies, Lord Aravind – because the main groups supporting the PSL are local monopolies – is promoting the dependence of our people, is denying our ancestors’ struggle for survival. It is urgent to stop the monopolies from crushing all the movements on the part of the peasants to take advantage from the land they daily work, it is urgent to reach a stage where the proletariat labours gives back and the worker is not exploited to feed the greedy and murderous hunger for profit of the feudal lords. As long as that step is not taken, as long as that stage is not reached, the world will have to live constantly under the nightmare and fear of being involved in any crisis. Why? Because there are some who are interested in perpetuating this exploitation! Wipe out the abuse by monopolies and mankind will have reached a true era of progress! – Agni Drust

This evening’s political debate saw a ferocious discussion between National Mysticist Movement’s main figure, Professor Lochan Egoz, and the Venerable Galahad of Killaraus, Unfallen Kingdom’s party leader. As it is widely known, both parties are bitter rivals, so this argumentation was, in fact, intense and it doesn’t come as a surprise the fact that Religion was the most controversial matter. The former missionary sustained that religion must be the basis of society, idea which was not accepted by Egoz, who claimed not religion, but culture should serve as foundation for the social order.

God the Blessed and Exalted has given this precious life to you so that you may make the most of it and do Good whilst you are here, in this world. And one shall be confronted by whatever deeds one has performed here, there, in the next world. Just as the effect of medicines or poisonous substances consumed by man can be seen in this corporeal world, so too the effect of a deed performed shall be tangible and visible there, in the spiritual other world. Indeed, there Man will see his true self.
God has provided you with guidance so that you may perform good deeds, deeds which benefit society, therefore which benefit yourselves. Unfortunately, False Gods arise. See Mammon, the idol of money! For many Opidanni-Sauvirans, their god is money and the bank their holy temple. Mammon is a father of many sins. Some are killed because others wanted something they owned. Some commit adultery because of covetousness. For others, stealing begins here. Lies are told daily in the name of business and we bow to the god of Mammon! See Bacchus, the idol of wine! How many Opidanni-Sauvirans are slave to alcohol?! All who drink bow for this altar, as they do not know that the joy contained in the flask is transcendently surpassed by the infinite joy of knowing the Lord! All who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not blossom. Their witness neither really see nor know for their vision is overshadowed by the evil vapours and their mind clouded by the satanic liquid. May they be put to shame!

Without culture, and the freedom it implies, society, even when perfect, is but a jungle. This is why any authentic creation is a gift to the future. When we analyse it, we can conclude that my Opponent’s religious ideals inhibit the true creation. It provides strict and unbending rules – dogmas – which cage the flight of the Bird of the Imagination and sedate the Soul of the Unsubmissive. Inflexibly organized religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the mud made blood of a heartless world, rotten food offered to the starving, the arms of the torturer that spin again and again the Wheel of Suffering. Culture, on the other hand, is like a fertile soil. It allows you to grow your own roots and spread the seeds of your own ideas, it opens a way for personal and social growth. It gives oxygen for the Ever Burning Flame of the Intellect. A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people and it is crucial to cultivate both the heart and the soul, let them grow free to discover the world, not to shackle them.
We must embody our National Identity. We must breathe this pure air, which vibrates with the sounds of hymns and canticles, and that is called Patriotism. We must be aware of our popular Conscience, which is, after all, the soul and mind of the Nation. The loss of National Identity is the greatest defeat a country can know.
This is my beloved Nation. Although small in size; colossal, gargantuan and portentous in spirit. Like a tree that, feeding on the national traditions, spreads several Brunches to different Suns, it shelters the most diverse populations – all equally Opidanni-Sauviran – under its shade. This small country cannot, on this fatidic hour, doubt of its reality as a Nation. This Reality – that encompasses the Independence, the Organic Unity and the Prosperity – is a wellspring. Hence the corollary: Who is not a Patriot cannot be defined as an Opidanni-Sauviran. I would like to know if, for the Adversary, the problem of nowadays’ conjuncture can be defined in the same way. – Lochan Egoz
