Freelance Journalist Leon Heberht I.J. Barker was supposed to cover Estoni politics and the ongoing civil war for IMMBC The Past Channel's travel documentary "Estoni Peoples Apart" on his own. Everything was already arranged except for his form of travel to Estoni. Pretty much no airline flies passengers to Estoni. After waiting for half a month IMMBC decides to charter a plane to Estoni. He arrived in the People's Republic of Estoni last Monday, April 17. Checked in and set to go about for his work to proceed as planned.

Leon Barker was filming the Estoni capital city Majevica along with its streets and locals. The sun was smiling that day and the clouds were not bothering as it looked. He then came across rumours about children and teenagers engaging in prostitution. Out of interest he decided to explore these rumours to see and know the truth himself. He followed whoever claimed to know and it took him two days while doing his job until he got a source. When he was told to go visit Toomas Hendriksoon by an unknown woman whom Barker met at a bar, he was rather unsure if he should continue this search. Honestly he knew this endeavour should not be in the first place. He has a paid task to fulfil in order to make ends meet. He pondered heavily until he met Hendriksoon.

Toomas Hendriksoon was a man Leon Barker would describe as a "nervous secret waiting to explode." They met in Hendriksoon's rundown apartment near Downtown Majevica. He introduced himself before cutting himself off for him to not reveal any further his person. Barker did the same. Hendriksoon went straight to the point. He told Barker that most of the missing youth in Viridisolum; girls in particular, were actually taken by Viridisian criminal syndicates, notably the notorious Merdayao Sontes, here in Estoni to be sold as sex slaves in exchange for weapons and illegal substances for commercial purposes.

Intrigued Barker wanted to go further. Hendriksoon gave a name "Miroslav Goryunov Innokentievich." However Barker has finished filming Majevica and so he contacts the local government and the national government, if it is possible to set up an interview on their opinion and what will they do of the ongoing civil war and the situation in territories out of their reach, to which no officials agreed. Barker also went to look for the Estoni National Archives to gather footage and resources for the documentary only to receive word that it has been closed for 20 years. He sustained searching in museums and private collections of illustrated individuals who have provided little for him although he attained addresses to veterans across the city. He visited all and took accounts of their experience in the civil war. One however not only gave his story in the war but of the secrets that the Estoni government does not want to expose.

It is publicly known to the people of Estoni and the peoples of Aeneas that isolated Estoni territories are governed by criminal syndicates but its extent is not. The veteran who happens to be Miroslav Goryunov Innokentie (full name Miroslav Goryunov Ruslan Makarka Innokenti) has told that the rest of Estoni government has been injected with felony, malfeasance, and sin. Innokentie divulged Ratmir Aleksandervitch, who he said to be responsible for kidnappings in Viridisolum and everywhere in "Estoni's reach." He also suggested that the Estoni Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Roki Vukovic is the pinnacle of all illegalities other than forced prostitution. Innokentie is uncertain at the same time since there are no evidences that would strongly validate the Foreign Affairs Minister, master of this evil.

Barker steadily worked on the documentary but in April 27 the Viridisian Embassy in Estoni has warned him to immediately leave the country after receiving a tip that he will be killed. Also, Hendriksoon and Innokentie were murdered as stated in the tip. This was not confirmed nevertheless the Embassy's Chancery of Public Affairs Overseas has determined not to take any chances that the information is false since the civil war and the fact of rampant corruption outside the capital as Estoni officials said technically supports the tip's legitimacy. His Imperial Majesty's Foreign Security Service and the Imperial Intelligence Service, Viridisian Branch arrived at his hotel without gathering much attention and pushed Barker to leave for his sake. Barker was worried that the documentary so far is not enough to please IMMBC. HIMFSS and IIS-VB assured him that the IMMBC would understand the circumstances. HIMFSS and IIS-VB promised to contact IMMBC regarding this to reassure Barker. He was finally convinced to check out and stay in the Embassy from April 30 to May 6 when he boarded HIMPFS 035.

In August 6, 2008 Marya Vasilieva, a 13 year-old Viridisian elementary student at Kokura School, Vadimgrad was beginning another day eager to learn for her future. At 7.00 AM she rode the school bus to Kokura shortly after receiving her lunch box and water bottle and kiss from her father, Petya Ludomir Vasilieva, and her mother, Alisa Pechenikova B. Vasilieva. She waved farewell to her parents as the bus disembarked. She spends seven hours in a day at school. At 9.30 she eats her snack, at 11.30 her lunch. Following her last academic period comes dismissal at 2.30 when she always spend her time playing or socializing with her friends, teachers, and staff. Sometimes she would get out of school with her friends to the community park nearby, sometimes on her own. Anyways, there is nothing to worry since there is the community civil guard.

At 2.30 Marya's parents came to pick her up only to find her backpack and lunch box. The parents asked the school guardsmen at the entrance and told them that Marya left with her friends though they returned without her. All of her friends have gone home and they were unable to know what happened to her after she left. They contacted the community civil guard in Kokura's area and gave them a photo of their daughter at 3.52. After the community civil guard at Kokura failed to find Marya her parents moved on to the Vadimgrad City Police to find their daughter. She was still and declared missing at 1.37 AM. The VCP gave handouts and posted her photos across Vadimgrad. The Viridisian National Police did so nationwide after a month has passed. The IIS-VB took part when the search has lasted five months. The search ended in December 30, 2008 at the request of Marya's parents. They ultimately lost hope.

Barker is yet to be done in his work and he expects for it to be done next week after. He will look for whatever he needs about Estoni elsewhere. In the meantime he grieves for Hendriksoon and Innokentie. If it were not for them families of the missing children and teenagers would forever hold themselves grieving, thinking, crying, praying, and wishing for their daughters welfare.

The VNP and IIS-VB will jointly begin a new search in spite of the civil war and the current political situation in Estoni.

PARLIAMENT PASSES DECLARATION OF WAR
Otulian-Andallic conflict spreads close to home as
Lyncanestrian Armed Forces cross into Otulia

Lyncanestria, LYNCANESTRIA—With a final count of 339-110, Parliament passed a declaration of war at quarter past eleven last night against the Federal Republic of Otulia, given their recent aggression against their northern neighbour Andallion, just barely passing the 337 needed for a declaration. Parliament's actions come after almost two weeks since the original hostilities began between the two nations. The Lyncanestrian diplomatic mission in Otulia was recalled on Friday, giving rise to public perception that war between Lyncanestria and Otulia was imminent. Minister for Foreign Affairs George Whitacre commented last night that the Parliament's declaration of war comes after a long series of diplomatic negotiations, attempted arbitration and even an ultimatum for Otulian soldiers to completely withdraw from Andallion, the revelation of which is now just being made.

This declaration of war comes just three days after Serge Moulins took office as the new Prime Minister on Wednesday, replacing the outgoing Luc Mariard. However, in just three days he has gained a notoriously high disapproval rating; upon his victory in the March elections, he can be quoted as having said, "the Lyncanestrian people have chosen to elect peace and economic prosperity," where peace refers to his promise to maintain Lyncanestrian neutrality in the February crises that nearly erupted into war. The outgoing Mariard government was able to maintain Lyncanestrian neutrality almost two weeks into this newest crisis, but with these new developments in Parliament, much of the public is blaming Moulins for not keeping control of the legislature. In our latest polls, it shows that only 37% of Lyncanestrians support intervention, against 54% who don't and 9% undecided.

The Parliament voted 339-110 to pass a declaration of war against the Federal Republic of Otulia, against the wishes of the Prime Minister and the majority of Lyncanestrians, creating an open state of hostilities between the two nations. The newly-elected Lord Speaker of Parliament, Hermès Chagrand, has said Parliament will continue its state of hostility against Otulia until all its soldiers are withdrawn from Andallion and Andallic territorial integrity is restored.

This intervention in the conflict serves as a modern example of the perpetual continuity of the Lyncanestrian government's preoccupancy with the maintenance of the Carpatian balance of power. Historian and political commentator Côme Belarras said, "Since the [Lyncanestrian] Empire's inception, our government has had the intrinsic necessity to assure that the status quo is maintained. An expanding aggressive neighbour to the north would upset the precarious balance designed by our government all those years ago, and the return to it has been our foreign policy regardless of political ideology."

The Emperor himself is reported as having mentioned his disappointment with Parliament in a closed meeting with his cabinet and advisory council. This purported statement comes curiously given that Andallion's current monarch is the Emperor's first cousin, related matrilineally through their Ghantish mothers.

Regardless of the politics, public opinion or familial ties however, Parliament's declaration shirts the burden of carrying out this "maintenance of the status quo" to sit upon the shoulders of the armed forces. The Lyncanestrian Army, which had, for the most part, been amassing near the Lyncanestrian-Otulian border for the past week are now advancing north on the Otulian capital to alleviate the pressure on Andallion and Lanos. The office of the High Chief of Staff reports that the army began it's march into Otulia at 0300 this morning with elements of the air force being used in close support of the infantry and armour advance. Engagement with contingents of the Otulian army were reported as early as 6:20 near Pelligale and north of Roubon. The navy has also been mobilised from port in Tellemar and are moving to press a blockade on the Otulian coast, according to sources.

Experts are predicting that the intervention will last no more than a month given Otulia's war on two fronts, which is a probable explanation for Parliament's rationale in declaring war.

Eskandari Loses Allies over Bizarre "Aryan Race" Comments

DARYĀSHAHR - Promiment cartoonist Omar-Khayyām Eskandari caused yet another round of controversy by releasing a poster meant as a "call to arms" to members of the "Aryan race." The cartoonist, relatively unknown until last year, sparked a nationwide debate when he released his infamous series of "Mohammad cartoons." The drawings, depicting the Prophet as a murderous conqueror and sexual deviant, led to Eskandari's flight to the Luscan Republic, where he now lives under heavy protection.

Eskandari's "Mohammad cartoons" had been brought to the spotlight in July of last year when the Āyatollāh Nasrollāh used them as an example in a sermon on "hate and resentment in modern art." Although Eskandari was not the main subject of the sermon, Nasrollāh's comments were widely publicized, leading to much controversy. Many Islamist parties called for boycotts, protests and even violence against Eskandari, prompting the artist to flee to the Luscan Republic. Many secular parties from across the political spectrum, however, defended him. The Workers' Party, in particular, offered him a large grant to "continue artistic expression undeterred by reactionary violence."

The newly-released poster, however, seems to have turned Eskandari from a cause celebre to an embarassment overnight. Written in the "modernist" alphabet preferred by the Workers' Party, it says "there will be no Muslims, no Christians, no atheists - UNDER THE ARYAN RACE." The poster also includes the flags of the ancient Persian Empire and the Pan-Aryan Party. In the center is the symbol of the paganistic Zoroastrian religion, whose inclusion in the poster provoked sharp criticism from Mediterranea's small Zoroastrian community. Eskandari distributed these posters by hand in the Luscan city of Sedula, as well as ordering thousands of copies to be shipped to and distributed in the mainland.

"The Abrahamic religions were imposed on the Aryan people by Semitic invaders," said Eskandari, to a confused and bewildered press, "We must restore the traditions of our Aryan ancestors, including the religion of Zarathustra and the leadership of a divinely-appointed emperor."

The Zoroastrian community was not pleased. Fearing sectarian violence, armed Zoroastrians patrolled the streets of the Hormuz neighborhood of Shahr-e-Ketāb. Religious leaders stated over and over again that this poster was not their doing. "Our faith does not encourage racism," stated spokesman Dāriush Hakhāmaneshi. "Mr. Eskandari is clearly a misguided individual with no connection to Zoroastrianism, which has peacefully coexisted with both Islam and Christianity for hundreds of years." While the Mediterranean legal system does not consider defamation and slander a civil or criminal offense, Hakhāmaneshi stated that his fellow-Zoroastrians' intention to pursue a lawsuit in the Luscan courts.

The Workers' Party had no official comment, although it appears that they have quietly retracted the grant offer. Within the Party itself, condemnation of Eskandari was near-unanimous, and the Anti-Fascism Vigilance Committee in Falazābād announced a million-riāl contest to design a counter-poster.

Grand Duke authorizes inter-service rugby tournament
Today marked a momentous day for the famed inter-army rivalry, one with roots that run back to the creation of the Nivokian Army. The Duke announced that all regiments within the force are permitted a rugby squad to compete in the Lombardo Logistical Arms Cup, the tournament named after its main funder and largest arms manufacturer in the nation. Designed to reinforce teamwork and competition between the regiments, it is hoped that it should bring in more funding for the military through ticket sales and companies paying to broadcast the games onto televisions. The inaugural is between the Westernlands Highland Regiment (Team name: Westernlands Whalers) and the Duke's Own Regiment (Team name: The Dukes) at Desroba Rugby Football Union Stadium in the capital of Setonville on the 20th of May 2015. Tickets have already been sold out and local companies and pubs are bracing for the sudden influx of visitors to the city. The game will be broadcast on NBTV and SeaTV at 5:00pm.

Alongside the announcement of the new tournament, the Duke announced that the military, most noticeably the army, would be going through a series of reforms and new equipment acquisitions to bring the military up to par for the modern world. The most noticeable change is the acquisition is the new Main Battle Tank, the replacement was revealed after a hard fought competition for the contract which was won by BFT Systems for their design of the Defender Main Battle Tank. The design boast a second-generation Gaboham Armour (multi-layer materials put together to withstand high amounts of force and stress, the materials are classified however), it is also has an Explosive Reactive Armour and an automated turret, which means the entire crew can sit in a stronger hull within the base of the tank thus reducing the profile of the tank. It also has advanced fire control system and equipped with a 55-calibre long L30A1 tank gun. It is expected to enter service in 2018.

"Pedans Bellicus": A Weekly Analysis of Global Conflicts

Global Latinity is proud to present "Pedans Bellicus". Gregorius Brechrus, a self-described " combat geek", chimes in with his blunt analysis of conflicts and politics around the world.

I'm going to talk about the Siracusa crisis, and the mainland crisis, in a way that's going to piss off a lot of my weekly readers. First, I'll be talking about the difference between coast Latins and sea Luscans - although according to you Terrafirmists, God bless you crazies, we're all the same. Second of all, I'm going to put the gang of provincial Mafiosi that make up our own government in less than flattering terms. Finally, I'll be demystifying a lot of the conflicts people like to wax poetic about.

Forget anything you've been told about Siracusa as a holy war, or a struggle for freedom, or a demonic uprising, or what have you. It's ethnic gang warfare, plain and simple. The Achaeans were bossing around the Latins for too long, getting too cocky, and the Latins knocked them down. This frightened the Persians, who need the Achaeans' domination of the coastal cities to keep their own shitty economy afloat, so the Free Assembly inserted itself into the mess.

The beginning of the crisis was a good-ole low-intensity turf war, which the Free Assembly excels at. Irregular warfare is social warfare, less about holding territory and more about building your own connections and severing your enemy's. That's what was going on. Those riots were consolidation of each side's turf. Meanwhile there was a lot of "social networking" - as yuppie assholes would say - as they built up assets and chains of commands for the next part. Overall the Achaean militias, and their protectors from Daryāshahr, were evenly matched with the Catholic State. This was the sort of war both sides had been used to fighting.

Once pitched battle broke out, it was all downhill for the Achaeans. The Catholic State knew how to utilize total warfare, modern strategy. They knew how to use terror. For the underpaid conscripts of the Free Assembly, this was above their pay grade. It made total sense to drop their weapons and run at the sight of an enemy that was fond of torturing its opponents to death. Those oaths about dying for the fatherland didn't mean much when the enemy was actually forcing you to do that. So the Latins rode the wave until they reached the end of their natural turf. That's why we saw the Catholic State balloon "out of control". They weren't beating the Free Assembly as much as the Free Assembly was beating itself up.

But they've done two fatal things: overstayed their welcome, and overestimated their own skill.

The latter is simple. The Catholic State should have hedged its bets and ended the war once it reached the end of the hills. Eventually the blitzkrieg had to have run out of steam. Armored combat on the plains is not the Latins' strength. Instead, they could have stayed in the hills, and either sued for peace or become a Luscan protectorate, both of which the media claimed would happen in mid-2012. But the Latins thought they could keep fighting, and squandered their luck as they walked into one losing engagement after another, antagonizing everyone else in the process.

Which brings me to the former point. Like I said, Mediterraneans are fond of low-intensity warfare. And coastal Latins are very assimilated with the rest of Mediterranea. Inter-group conflict, as long as it isn't too bloody or disruptive to the economy, can be shrugged off as a part of life. Intra-group warfare is horrifying. The beheadings the crucifixions and the whole circus of horrors alienated the local populations pretty quickly, as they realized their new overlords were far more shameless than the Achaeans (a whimy merchant people).

Forget the mythology that the coastal Latins are Luscans gone astray. They aren't. The Luscans all left the mainland during the Great Retreat, to come here and wax poetic for 120 years about how their homeland was lost. The Latins that remain are farmers and herders, and urban workers. We're more like the Achaeans, sneaky merchants whose military forces serve mostly as armed debt-collectors. In our case, we have a half-decent naval tradition to protect us. In the Achaeans' case, they have the Persians behind them.

What really frightens the Luscan nationalists, and the Free Assembly elite, and even the Socialists, is that the nature of the war has changed. The first two outbursts of violence in the last century - those once-in-a-generation bloodbaths that come every time the kids forget about mom and dad's horror stories - were ideological in nature. Socialism versus capitalism. The last two have been ethnic, since the Manina rulers of Lusca figured out that it was easier to pay the Mediterraneans to kill each other. This doesn't fit into the socialists' ideal of a united worldwide working class without loyalties to bourgeois constructs, and the filthy group warfare doesn't work with the capitalists' glorious individualism of the Free Market and the Common Law. That's why everyone got so excited about the ruckus in Nasiristan, and why everyone's getting hard about Otulia and Andallion's pathetic excuse for a war - they seem like old-style, black-and-white battles.

By the way, don't think of the Āyatollāh Nasrollāh as some revolutionary new leader. He's business as usual in Mediterranea. The Persians, unlike other Muslims, are Shia, and Shia Muslims love their secret orders and martyrdom mythology. That makes their religious leaders the perfect ethnic warfare commanders in the tough neighborhood that is Mediterranea. His Association of the Believers - or Axis of Solidarity, or Divisions of Awesomeness, or whatever the hell they're calling it now - will be the foot soldiers in the next war. Oh, and they have no interest in ruling the coast, only in keeping whoever does subservient to Persian interests.

The best thing the Catholic State can hope for is a rapid collapse. With the best of luck on their side, there will only be a few weeks before the beginning of the next Coalition push and the fall of Siracusa. If that happens, the Sanfedisti will still have homes and jobs to go back to, and only their leadership will be put up against the wall and shot - assuming they don't escape. After all, the Free Assembly would like nothing better than to forget about this whole mess and return to peace. But if the battle is bloody and drawn-out, Shahrbāni won't be able to control his own men or the Islamic militias. There will be revenge killings, mass arrests, and looting.

If I were a Sanfedista right now, I would strip off my uniform, make a beeline for Castra Ansae, and offer my services to whatever intelligence service or branch of the Manina family (they're all the same, anyways) I found first. That would mean a hefty retirement package, maybe a nice Luscan trophy wife, and a much better chance of coming out of the mess with all limbs intact. But if I were a member of the upper echelons, I would be praying I've chosen the right God to kill for. Because they have no easy out, short of assuming a false name and living a life on the run. As much as Lusca loves to see chaos on the mainland that doesn't threaten Ansa or Charax (the Catholic State learned very quickly not to do that), we don't quite want to shelter the people doing our murdering for us.

If this war ends quickly, as I think it will, the only thing we have to worry about is revenge attacks by ex-Sanfedisti going freelance. If any survive being turned into shish kebab.

Already two Lanosian state sponsored murderers rot in an Eesti prison for the savage Bijeljina killings awaiting trial but their guilt is obvious to all.

And this crime which shocked our nation has been repeated ten thousand times over within the borders of neighboring Segland. Eesti volunteers helping to protect the innocent who have been so ravaged by this conflict have been reporting an increase in civilian deaths and presented evidence that rebel militias are killing anyone they suspect of supporting the government, and this includes anyone who is not fighting at their side. These criminal bands have done nothing but murder, rape and steal and all under the command of Lanosian killers.

Their so called special forces operatives have been doing nothing but lead their criminal allies in an orgy of the blood of the innocents. Not only have they intervened upon Agenors holy soil without permission but they have done so in a way which has only harmed the cause of peace. The base criminality which now runs riot in Segland will take years to resolve and these heavily armed and barely trained rebels will continue to terrorize everyone in their homeland.

These discoveries are certainly only the tip of the proverbial iceberg of Lanosian crimes and further evidence that the world must take a strong stand against the criminal imperialists from Plata. Agenor thus far stands alone in defending all that is good from these brutes and the world must soon step up.

The Eesti navy has started to take action against the criminal state. In an incredibly well orchestrated operation the navy prevented the Lanosian fleet from making an unwarranted and overly violent intervention into another war and further destabilizing the continent. For thirty six hours the Lanosians were prevented from speeding head first into the Otulian conflict and the government hopes that the fact the Otulians have achieved their legitimate goals in a war orchestrated in self defense will lead to a ceasefire and peaceful resolution with no further bloodshed.

The Defense Ministry has also announced that the Eesti Navy will establish a continuous patrol through the Otulian Strait to continue to monitor the dangerous and imperialist actions of the Lanosian navy. The government has expressed their hope that other members of the Agenor Coalition will join this action to prevent the Lanosians from ever again endangering our continent and the peace we so value.

In spite of their actions the Lanosians maintain the support of both Aurinsula and seemingly our supposed allies Kirisaki. The Aurinsulans have concluded a ridiculously overpriced oil deal with the imperialists in an attempt to control the economy of Aeneas and force the burgeoning free people of this world back into slavery. But this Minean Mafia has underestimated Agenor, the coalition is united against imperialist whores and has begun the move to self reliance. Already Gvozdevski oil fuels our cars and natural gas from Defese will soon heat the land and provide electricity to our homes.

The hegemony of the imperialists will soon be at an end and their pirate monopolies on resources will come to an end. Their states are rotten and will soon collapse from within. This oil deal is nothing but a last desperate throw of the dice from a collapsing order and proves the end of imperialism is nigh and the reign of the free is soon to come.

They were also reminded that the responsibility lies upon their police force to prevent the alleged sale of these girls instead of upon Eesti business men who are committing no crime under our laws.
-With the withdrawal of the Lanosian embassy a concerned citizens group has announced that an eternal flame for the Lanosian soldiers sacrificed by their government in illegal and pointless wars will be lit tonight within the building and shall burn until their government ceases to let their people be sacrificed for imperialist gain.

Armed Forces Mobilized After Lyncanestrian Declaration Of War

In response to the declaration of War on the Federal Republic of Otulia by the Empire of Lyncanestria last week, President Khaled Al-Husseini has mobilized eight divisions of Nasiristan's Armed Forces in order to improve border security. The President was quick to clarify that this was the beginning of any direct military action against Lyncanestria and that the measure was only undertaken to "improve the stability of Nasiristan and of the continent as a whole," a representative of the Presidency said. Three divisions which had not seen action during the Civil War were quickly roused to action and deployed along Nasiristan's northern border with Lyncanestria.

These units have been specifically instructed not to engage their Lyncanestrian counterparts in any form of hostilities, and the representative also voice the President's desire that the conflict would "meet a timely and diplomatic end," but reiterated the administration's vigilance in this matter.

In recent years, there has been a large influx of Nasiri Christian and Shi'a immigrants into Lyncanestria through the Nasir Mountain Pass that bisects the mountains that line the nearly 3000km border that separates the two nations. Historically, the NMP has been largely unsupervised, but in recent years, it has become a hotspot for illegal immigration as well as for crime. The Nasiri Defense Ministry recently released a report on the situation of Nasiristan's borders as part of Al-Husseini's government supervision program, which is colloquially referred to as "100 Days, 1000 Reports." The report stated that the condition of Nasiristan's border with Lyncanestria was "nominally insecure," while also reporting that Nasiristan's border with Mediterreania is "lacking of any security infrastructure; dangerously insecure."

This report comes just as the retreating insurgent group loyal to Aqil Hakim is reported to have crossed the border into the Free Assembly of Mediterreania.

As of the time of writing, there are currently 20,000 troops deployed along the Nasiristan-Lyncanestria border, most of whom belong to divisions of the Republican Guard (not to be confused with the Revolutionary Guard), which is a newly formed military unit creating during President Al-Husseini's restructuring of the military after the Civil War. The Republican Guard, a military unit that answers to the Defense Ministry, is being commanded directly by Lieutenant General Amir Kamel, son of now-retired Husayn Kamel, and the victor of the Battle of Nasiriyah. Above all else, the goal of the newly deployed soldiers is to protect the citizens of Nasiristan from threats foreign and domestic.

Omar-Khayyām Eskandari takes refuge in Ghant
Controversial Cartoonist finds asylum

(Ghish, Ghant)- Omar-Khayyām Eskandari, the middle aged, prominent Mediterranean cartoonist has found himself bouncing around from country to country looking for asylum, while there is a bounty on his head back in Mediterranea. His search for a place of exile has ended in Ghant.

Eskandari caused controversy for expressing his beliefs through his work, which consisted of criticizing the prophet Muhammad, promoting racism, neo-fascism and occult ideals. While initially he had the support of the left in Mediterranea, he eventually went too far even for them to tolerate. This lead to his supports abandoning him in droves in light of the mass controversy, and without anyone in his home country to support him, he had no choice but to flee the country, in danger for his life.

The breaking point came when he designed a poster advocating a "call to arms" for members of the "Aryan race." This came after he released a series of "Muhammad cartoons," which depicted Muhammed as a “murderous conquer and sexual deviant.” Eskandari first fled to the Luscan Republic, where he lived under heavy protection. After his most recent antics, he was forced to leave there as well, his protection withdrawn.

After finding himself on the run, Prime Minister Nymun Izarbegiratzeak of Ghant took sympathy on the dogged cartoonist and offered him political asylum in Ghant. When asked about the decision, the Prime Minister had the following to say:

“I am a big fan of freedom of speech…I mean, I would have to be to have written very offensive books and comedy routines for over fifty years. Sure, what Eskandari does and says may offend people, but hey, if you don’t want to see it, don’t look at it, and if you don’t want to hear it, don’t listen to it. The fact remains that this man has every right to exercise his freedom of speech and voice his opinions, and unlike Mediterranea, we here in Ghant value freedom of speech and do not seek to censor things we don’t like just because we don’t like them.”

For security related reasons, Eskandari’s present location within Ghant is not being disclosed. Also, it remains to be seen if Eskandari will continue his work from his new home. In any event, Mediterranea and its people are not likely to be happy with this recent development. But, as a wise man once said, “what is right isn’t always popular, and what is popular isn’t always right.”

The Ghantish Official Factbook: Nathan Wain Victor Amadeus Gentry, Prince of Ghant, was born at the Imperial Palace in 1988. He was the first child of Crown Prince of John of Ghant and his wife Caroline Zuria, the daughter Lord Raymond Zuria. At the time of his birth, he was the second in line to the Obsidian Throne, behind only his father, Crown Prince John, the oldest son of Emperor Albert I.

Ghant is a country in the far northeastern corner of Aeneas, an imperial continent watching over the neighbouring continent of Agenor, a postclassical kingdom that became an empire by the end of the 18th century, a monarchy that has lasted for more than a thousand years. The Monarchy has links extensive and attached across countries around the World proving itself to be one of the most influential and perhaps the most in Aeneas. It had its ups and downs but it manages to climb its way back to greatness. The Monarchy supposedly holds the affection of its people. The Ghantish people do not show the same affection Viridisians, North Mineans, and other people in the CUASS in expressing adulation to the worldwide revered Valaran institution, the Monarchy of Valaran. However the Obsidian Throne alone, paramount symbol of the Ghantish nation, sovereignty, and monarchy has lasted longer than any of those who sat upon it and has cursed those who have tried to move it is more than enough to sustain the Ghantish Monarchy.

IMMBC received the privilege three days ago to interview the reigning monarch of Ghant, Emperor Nathan IV, as the 18th anniversary of his coronation as the Ghantish imperial sovereign approaches. I was sent to Ghant to the Imperial Palace to meet the so-called "Emperor Fidget."

IMMBC: "After Your Majesty received the top-job in Ghant, following your coronation were you aware of the weight you will have to bear with as the emperor of your country, have you imagined then what was to come?"

Emperor Nathan IV: "Not really, I mean all I remember at the time was how fast it all happened. I really wasn't ready for it...I mean I was only nine years old. I knew that it was important, but at that age I don't think I realized to what extent that it was. A lot has happened over the years, and it wasn't really what I thought it was going to be at the time."

IMMBC: "During the regency, a period of time when Your Majesty endured the Lord Regent, your uncle the Grand Duke Albert’s harsh upbringing. Do you think the Grand Duke really meant you any harm, do you still hold a grudge against him?”

Emperor Nathan IV: "I think that my Uncle meant well, but at the same time was highly unsympathetic. I held a grudge for a number of years, but as I have gotten older, I have come to realize that holding grudges isn't a healthy thing to do. So while I am still displeased about the whole thing, I really don't hold anything against him anymore. He has moved on with his life, and so have I."

The Ghantish Official Factbook: On May 19th, 1997, Emperor Albert died of a brain aneurysm while he was asleep. Once the Royal Doctors confirmed the death of the Emperor, they went to the chambers of the 9 year old Prince to inform him that his grandfather was dead, and that he was Emperor now. He cried hysterically.

IMMBC: "Finally when you turned eighteen the regency has come to an end and you've done away with the Grand Duke. Were you confident to continue your reign without any guide whatsoever? Several Ghantish and many Viridisian traditionalists have criticized your isolation and so-said lacking of responsibility and feeling of duty in fulfilling your role as Ghant's constitutional monarch."

Emperor Nathan IV: "When I was a little boy, my father told me that the mark of a wise man is knowing what he is and what he isn't capable of. I will be the first one to admit that I was never ready to become Emperor, at 9 or at 18. I admitted that I needed help, and thankfully I had some very capable people that were able to do just that. So, no, I wasn't confident that I could continue my reign without guidance, and I readily accepted some at that time. And I still do. My belief is that there are people more capable then I am when it comes to many of the routine tasks associated with ruling, and I, as well as they, have been content in that arrangement. I still learn how to do things though, and do what I can, when circumstances permit, to be an effective Head of State and exercise Imperial duties as are necessary."

IMMBC: "As truly an Emperor Your Majesty have freed yourself and your household from the pomp and regal conduct. You've become rather casual. Do you think this has done you good? I've also heard more from circulating rumours of scandals and indecency."

Emperor Nathan IV: "I think it has done me good. I think that in the 21st century, it is important for monarchy to be accessible and relatable to the people. I think that being more casual, and forgoing the rigidness of court life have made me better able to relate to people. And as far as scandals and indecency, well, not everyone can be perfect."

The Ghantish Official Factbook: On the Emperor's 18th birthday, he immediately discharged Albert and all of his retainers from court, and kept a small staff about him- otherwise, the Imperial Palace was empty, and quiet. The Emperor has remained isolated and remote, and spent his time reading, writing, watching television and playing games. Martin often returned to court to visit and spend time with him, as did some of his cousins. He traveled often, and had made official visits to all of the 13 Provinces of Ghant.

IMMBC: "Your Majesty's reign has seen so far very few political interventions as it seems. But are you always prepared to act against your head of government despite being a ceremonial figure, notably during the administration of Prime Minister Burt Marec's on his notion to change the succession laws? Not to mention the remarkable and radical plebiscite of Prime Minister Yula Zimya in an attempt to change Ghant into a republic in which Your Majesty remained quiet until the results in your favour were shown. What can you say about that?"

Emperor Nathan IV: "Of course. I have never been shy of using an Imperial Veto in order to nix something that I don't think is in the country's best interests. I can't veto a national referendum result though, those are binding. So with the Republic Referendum, there wasn't much I could do about that besides sit back and watch."

IMMBC: "Does Your Majesty intend to change following the narrow victory the institution you serve received in the Republic Referendum? It only shows that the people are gradually favouring a new order in Ghant opposing what it has today.

Emperor Nathan IV: "I just think that people were still frustrated with my Uncle and the perceived ineffectual nature of the crown. I don't really mean to change much."

The Ghantish Official Factbook: For the next few years, he traveled and spent time in isolation in the Imperial Palace. He also became very outspoken on various political issues, and was an avid conspiracy theorist.

IMMBC: "Lastly, what has Your Majesty planned and look forward to for the rest of your reign?"

Emperor Nathan IV: "Traveling and watching my children grow up. Just enjoying life and doing the right thing, and having fun along the way. That's what life is all about I think, being able to look back on your life when you are dying and saying that it was worth it."

The Ghantish Official Factbook: Nathan is motivated by a desire to "do the right thing", although he is often misguided and led astray. The things that he desires most in life are love, respect, and acceptance- things that he believes he has never truly had. Due to this, he is prepared to go to great lengths to earn those things.

Editorial: UDP-Liberal coalition on the rocks as Chambers rumors escalate

Led by the Liberal moderate David Becerra, the governing coalition formed in the wake of the 2012 elections is showing cracks as the Liberal Party appears to be reforming under one banner and the United Democratic Party is showing signs of hesitation towards current foreign policy by President Becerra. As a sign of the times, the Liberal Party held a "unification" fundraiser in Port Darthur last week that, while closed to the public, reportedly mended the ties between the leftist establishment and the moderate faction of the party. Multiple UDP Assemblymen had taken to the Sunday morning talk shows to condemn Becerra's reputed timidness on foreign affairs, particularly in regards to the Agenor Coalition and the nation's military preparedness despite Becerra's proposed (and soon to be passed and implemented) military increase as part of the NDF 2020 Reform program. Both parties are no longer touting the previous coalition as Becerra and his Liberal vice president quietly filed for the 2016 elections under their party affiliation, not under a united coalition. On the surface and in public, it appears the coalition remains intact. Underneath, the UDP and the Liberals are on a collision course for a public fracture and a return to partisan politics in Keinsteinem and the rest of Lanos.

Out of Sondria comes a virulent and persistent rumor in political circles that former President Michael Chambers Jr., previously serving from 1997 to 2001, is contemplating running for a second term as a UDP candidate. Previously an independent and only promising to serve one presidential term unless he personally felt he had to run again for the sake of the nation, Chambers associated himself more with the UDP after his term expired in 2001. Along with his charitable work as a part of the Lanosian branch of Esperance International, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Boy Scouts, Chambers also participates in UDP functions after associating with and joining the party in 2003. However, despite his frequent UDP activism, Chambers has continually denied all such rumors since 2004. Even at the height of the 2008 presidential election cycle and the 2008 presidential recall crisis, the former president chose to remain out of the spotlight. This time around, for 2016, things may be different and set up for Chambers to go for a second term.

With the evolving regional dynamic, criticism has mounted on President Becerra's seemingly timid responses to Agenor Coalition actions and rhetoric against Lanos. Despite the growing need to reform the military's manpower situation, Becerra instead chose to wait until the Andallic-Otulian War to make the new changes permanent and even as he did so he objected to how the National Assembly "ignored" his wishes. While the Defesian fleet hanged near Lanos, the NDF had stationed the 1st Fleet near the mainland to prevent any incidents but neither the Navy or the Air Force were on any heightened alert during this time. In another stinging defeat, military spending was restored to previous levels and the new LanOil-APMC deal may possibly see more money going to the military, forcing competition with the domestic programs its profits funds as well. Recently, the National Assembly has passed a bill that would reintroduce conscription. While Becerra has issued a veto threat, it is likely the measure will pass by a wide margin.

Domestically, Becerra's initial achievements have ran into both legal challenges and backlash. While policy reforms and changes have gone through, they have lost their initial popularity and progress has ground to a halt. Becerra's political will to effect change on the domestic front seems to have disappeared as his timidness extends from the foreign front to the home front. Despite major political successes, such as the LanOil-APMC deal and various domestic reforms, Becerra has become unpopular except within his own party.

This situation is ripe for two major political plays in Lanos. One, it would make for anyone presenting themselves to be a maverick or a "badass" in political circles to becoming immensely popular, particularly if they have had previous experience such as being a governor or former president. A candidate that is not afraid to make the tough choices and does not hesitate to defend the homeland. Marina Aruthyan was one of those in 2012 and had run the nation well until her resignation for medical issues. The same situation could happen again in 2016 if Chambers was to enter.

Two, it would signal yet another failed presidential term for the Liberal Party. The Liberals have not had much luck since the presidency of Thomas Hoyle began in 1993. Hoyle is remembered as one of the better Liberals despite being thrown out of the elections in 1996 for his deeply unpopular efforts to disqualify the UDP from the race as well as his handling of the 1995 Recession. The next Liberal presidencies, Johnson and Rezantia, are not as well regarded as Hoyle's for their own specific reasons (Johnson for major political scandals and his recall; Rezantia for his handling of the Second Chon War and domestic issues). The party that had hailed much success in the late 1980s by cooperating with Wilhelm Kostov as well as its pre-1953 presidencies is now falling on hard times again even before the election season has started. The center-left and far-left platform argued for by the party has seen limited adoption outside of Liberal strongholds (particularly the State of Darthur and some major cities). Some voters view the party's platform as radical and cite why they would rather vote UDP (or even the United National Front) than Liberal.

In the coming days, there will be soul searching. Either from Sondria where Chambers makes his decisions (if he makes the Big One) or from the Liberal Party as it seeks to salvage another presidency and possibly contemplate looking at its party platforms and its candidates. Maybe there could be a new party that absorbs Liberal and becomes the new left-wing party in Lanos. Perhaps the UNF could reform legally and become a new political threat to the UDP. Either way, the political situation of Lanos is bound to transform starting in 2016 and will reverberate for decades to come.

Sandgron's government decided, instead of seeking a new coalition partner or trying to rule as a minority government, he would ask the president to call a new election before the 25th June. The government has only served seven months in office. So what are Sandgron's chances of becoming Prime Minister again? Well, it's hard to tell at this point. It seemed clear in December to some extent that the Centre Party leader's victory was some weird electoral quirk; the Centre Party, although often an important player in former coalitions, has never had enough seats to form a government of its own. And with support for the Workers' Party and the Free Democrats now standing almost on par, each taking around 25% of the vote in opinion polls, the Centre Party now seems to have been overshadowed by the louder, more ideologically driven voices within parliament. Who is most likely to come out of this election wearing the Prime Ministerial badge? Near on impossible to say. But most opinions polls place the Free Democrat leader Haldo Nielsen 1 or 2 points higher than Malin Rustad, the Workers' Party leader. The Free Democtats are also more likely to sweep up current Centre Party and Jo Parti seats in Roosen and Tarielusta, and the Free Democrats' urban seats don't seem to be going anywhere either as the 'liberal hipsters' stick to their roots. So where is all the Workers' Party support coming from? It hasn't been a great decade for the Workers' Party. Their rapid shifts from centre to centre-left to hard-left to centre again have confused the electorate a little. Most grass roots Workers' Party voters want a left-wing party that is more moderate than the Socialist Party but more tough than the Free Democrats or the Greens. But with the election of Malin Rustad, a gifted, stalwart lefty, the party may just have earned back some of its old friends and maybe even a few younger ones.

Tensions reach explosive levels after Lyncanestrian naval raid
on Defesian cargo ship in Otulian waters, shots exchanged

Lyncanestria, LYNCANESTRIA—Commissioner for the Department of the Navy Léo Delibes confirmed today that the Lyncanestrian Second Fleet had indeed raided a Defesian cargo ship around midnight after sailing into contested hostile Otulian waters. The raid was conducted, according to the commissioner, after the Second Fleet had attempted to deter the cargo ship from moving further into Otulian waters by firing warning shots and trying to make radio contact with the vessel telling it to stay away.

According to reports made by the commanding officer of the Second Fleet, Admiral Alexis Trille, the Second Fleet's flagship, the Audacité, came up to the Defesian vessel and boarded it a little past midnight, conducting a ship-wide search for munitions, weapons and other military supplies that could be used to supply the Otulian military. The Department of the Navy has expressed satisfaction with the Admiral's decision, releasing an official statement, "Any vessel, civilian or otherwise, entering contested waters between two belligerent nations should expect to have suspicions raised at to their presence in that location. In this situation, Admiral Trille's suspicions were reasonable and his decision to search the Defesian cargo ship was justified."

Since the war began, the army and air force had been the centre of attention and coverage, given that the seas had been almost devoid of action due to the Otulian navy's concentration on the Andallic and Lanosian front.

Almost immediately following the incident with the cargo ship, the Second Fleet encountered a detachment of the Defesian navy that was trailing behind. Reports from the Department of the Navy say that the Second Fleet was fired upon after radio contact was attempted by the Audacité. While the first shot was believed to have been accidental, the Second Fleet returned fire after a Defesian missile reportedly hit the frigate Témérité.

As of the Department's report, the engagement between the Defesian and Lyncanestrian fleets had been broken off, at least temporarily, due to withdrawal by the Second Fleet several nautical miles east of the . The Prime Minister's public relations office released a statement just minutes afterwards expressing their frustration with the Defesian government's actions and their demand for immediate removal of all Defesian warships from disputed waters between Otulia and Lyncanestria.

Following this incident, experts on Defesian-Lyncanestrian relations are saying that relations between the two countries are reaching a tipping point. The historic dynamic between the two nations had always been one of tension since the last Defesian-Seglandic War, coupled with these latest developments, the relations just might pass that tipping point.

Gun Smugglers Busted

Saint Nikolai - In the early hours of the morning of May 27th, a Federal Security Service special forces unit raided a warehouse in the northern city of Saint Nikolai, seizing a large amount of handguns, submachine guns, shotguns and compact assault rifles. Two men were also arrested during the raid. The raid came after weeks of surveillance of the warehouse by the Federal Security Service after an anonymous tip lead the service to believe the warehouse was the headquarters of a gun smuggling operation. Documents found on a computer recovered during the raid revealed these firearms were intended to be sold to criminal elements in countries with restrictive firearm laws.

The vast majority of firearms seized were legal for civilian ownership in Gvozdevsk and the few that have not had their serial numbers removed will be re-sold to licensed firearms owners during a police auction. However, a more worrying concern is the assortment of firearms collected that are currently used by Gvozdevski military and law enforcement. It is unknown how these firearms ended up in the hands of criminals, and both the Armed Forces and Federal Security Service will be conducting investigations into the matter.

This is not the first seizure of firearms intended for sale to foreign criminals in Saint Nikolai. Over the past decade, thousands of firearms have been seized in the city. It is not know why gun smugglers have chosen the port of Saint Nikolai, an important port in both the export of natural resources and the import and export of finished goods, as well as the headquarters of the Gvozdevski Navy, as their base of operations.

In a press release, Director of the Federal Security Service Georgii Konstantinov stated he hopes to convince federal law enforcement and intelligence to make stopping the international trade in illegal firearms a priority and that he hopes to work in close cooperation with his international partners in order to fight the illegal arms trade.

When asked if he believed the seizures would lead to tighter gun restrictions in Gvozdevsk, Konstantinov responded by saying "not at all. Tighter restrictions will only create more criminals and criminal elements will still find ways to arm themselves even if firearms are outright banned, as we are seeing with these seizures of firearms destined for criminals in countries with highly restrictive firearms laws."

To own a firearm in Gvozdevsk, a person must be at least 18 years old and posses a firearms license, which requires a valid firearms safety certificate, which must be renewed every 5 years and firearms owners are subjected to random criminal record checks. All firearms must be registered with the government. Beyond these rules, there are few restrictions beyond fully automatic firearms being prohibited for civilian use unless a valid reason is provided, such as for use by a film production company or a historical reenactment society.

Only hours ago, the Lyncanestrian Kingdom raided a sovereign civilian vessel of the Empire, seizing its crew and contents. The vessel was transporting humanitarian aid generously provided by the Empire to the war ravaged people of Andallion and Otulia. The nearby 2nd Fleet is reported to have been attacked by the Lyncanestrian's own naval forces even while they pillaged the humanitarian vessel.

Reaction has been swift. The Ministry of Defense issued joint statement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs fifteen minutes after the first report of fighting between the two fleets. The statement was given by Minister of Defense Evander Theovich.

"The actions of the rogue forces that Lycanestria is unable to contain are belligerent and dangerous. It threatens the sanctity of international waters, firing at civilian ships and looting them of their humanitarian aid. The fact that they so boldly lied and accused the Empire of smuggling weapons alongside baby food is the most disgusting act of dishonour I've ever seen from Carpathia."

He went on to assure the assembled reporters that the Imperial 2nd Fleet had not sustained damage in the brief skirmish with the Lyncanestria pirates.

"The Navy's attempt to diffuse the situation peacefully was met with a missile fired at the DNV Ilatova, which was intercepted by the cruiser's defense systems, causing no damage."

The 2nd Fleet consists of fully modern ships, constructed in early 2012 and launched in 2014, with modern technology that makes them a formidable force to be reckoned with.

Concluding the briefing was the somber announcement that the Empire was now considering all armed Lyncanestrian ships to be rogue pirates, and that the Imperial Navy would be initiating operations against them.

Combat operations are reported to have already begun.

"We are an Empire of justice, and we will bring the criminals to the justice found at the bottom of the oceans, until they understand the price to be paid for their abhorrent dishonour." Evander said.

Combat operations are said to have already been initiated, with the Ministry of the Armed Forces reporting that a battle had been sparked as the 2nd Fleet moves in to free the illegally imprisoned cargo ship. Admiral Kira Tatiana is said to be commanding the 2nd Fleet, having been transferred from her post in the older 1st Fleet, which remains in the Livean as part of the Empire's committment to the Timeless Alliance with the Kirsaki-jin.

Protests Outside of Ghantish Embassy; Militia Deployed

DARYĀSHAHR - Following the decision of the Empire of Ghant to offer asylum to controversial cartoonist Omar-Khayyām Eskandari, demonstrators gathered outside of the Ghantish embassy in Daryāshahr to either oppose or support the decision. The city militia was deployed to restore order after a gang of secularists clashed with agents of an Islamist organization. Bullets and tear gas canisters were reportedly fired, and several injured were transported to hosptials. This kind of political violence in the heart of Free Assembly territory casts doubt around General Shahrbāni's efforts to do away with the "Catholic State" rebels once and for all. Meanwhile, the relationship between Āyatollāh Nasrollāh's "Association of the Faithful" and the Free Assembly is strained by this latest conflict between civil and ecclestiastical power.

A group loosely associated with the organization led by Nasrollāh issued a call for a protest march towards the embassy, and demonstrators answered the call carrying signs that depicted Eskandari in a crosshair. One person was arrested by the city militia the day before with stolen grenades, but the protest continued peacefully for a few hours. A group of masked Liberal Front supporters began harassing the marchers with printed copies of the cartoons. This sparked tensions, already high due to a contested match, between two football "ultra" gangs, and people began flooding the street of the embassy to either attack or defend the march.

Members of both the original march and the counterprotest revealed weapons ranging from broken bottles to machetes. The city militia was alerted. However, the situation escalated before they could arrive. The Islamists charged the embassy compound, prompting tear gas to be fired by the guards. As the demonstrators scattered, a man of unknown affiliation wearing a gas mask pulled a gun. As the city militia arrived, a few shots were fired and both sides immediately surrendered. Ambulances were brought on-scene for several injured by bullet fragments or hand-to-hand fighting. All participants found with firearms were accused of murder, while all those with improvised weapons were summoned to court for assault.

The Āyatollāh himself and condemned the violence, but lay the finger of blame on the secularist factions. "They are not content with slander, which is permissible under the laws of the Free Assembly. They must also pick fights, which is unacceptable by even secular legal systems. And it is not surprising that the secular left supports a man who also believes in the supremacy of the 'Aryan race' (nezhād-e Irān)." However, he urged his followers to pick their battles: "Why are you focused on a small group of hooligans while the Catholic State in Siracusa and its secret allies in the Luscan Republic kill thousands of Muslims? We must support the Free Assembly, and those of us who want martyrdom should seek it in the stronghold of the Crusaders. And remember that the Free Assembly is not yet part of the 'house of Warmaking' (dar-ol-harb)."

The Free Assembly is calling an emergency meeting to discuss the incident. General Shahrbāni, videoconferencing from a visit to soldiers on the Siracusa front, will address the parliamentarians. He is not expected to take any decisive action against Nasrollāh, as he needs to save political capital for the coming offensive, but he will certainly recommend a change post-war planning. The Workers' Party took the opportunity to hold a recruitment drive for socialist militias on the Siracusa Front, claiming that "religious fascism" is "the same, everywhere". The future of post-war Siracusa has become increasingly unclear.

President Bradshaw offered cautious words of support for Lanos's intervention in Carpathia, standing by it's efforts to prevent Otulian aggression in northern Carpathia.

Already condemning of Otulian interventions in Nasiristan and Medittereania, the State Department confirmed on Thursday that Otulia's intervention in Andallion would further prove efforts of an Otulian agenda of Carpathian domination.

President Bradshaw said the State Department's statement was “consistent with the analysis that he’s received from those who are on the ground,” but he also stressed that in many cases Lanos's campaign in Carpathia may encourage what Otulia has failed to stop: the suppression of voting rights.

The Otulian invasion of Andallion has split the Socialist Party in the National Assembly. "The surprise victory of Otulian forces in southern Andallion proves that the D.R. to send combat troops into the war-torn country," Assemblyman John MacEnroe said Sunday. The bloc supporting intervention argues that Otulia's invasion runs a risk of producing an "Agenorian Spring-like scenario", bringing the once stable government to a crashing defeat.

The Assembly on Friday passed a sweeping annual defense policy bill that became a flashpoint this year in a larger dispute between the President and National Party members over federal spending: a bill that helped develop the Demphorian Navy's reach capabilities, a decision that was influenced by the Invasion of Andallion.

Meanwhile, the Demphorian Republic placed forth a provision that would not permit itself to intervene and declare war on Otulia, citing Andallion's human rights records.

Deputy Secretary for Healthcare and Services Michael G. Freemont, a National Conservative, announced Friday that he was running for president as an NCRP candidate, injecting the old progressive voice of the party into the contest and providing more traditional NCRP members a challenge.

Avoiding the fanfare that several Socialist and Justice Party candidates have chosen so far when announcing their candidacies, Freemont issued a statement to supporters that laid out his goals for expanding the armed forces, addressing climate change and scaling back the influence of money in politics.

Freemont's bid is considered a long shot due to the recent move right that the NCRP has created, but his unflinching commitment to stances popular with the liberals in the party— such as opposing foreign military interventions but expanding military might, reining in big banks and preparing to take on corruption — could force conservative candidates to address these issues more deeply.

NCRP members who have been hoping for more liberal candidates to enter the race, such as Assemblymen Michael Dawes or former Gov. and current Deputy Secretary for Trade and Commerce Jessica B. Humphry, cheered Freemont's decision.

Night Club Bombed

Ugoglrad - At approximately 12:30 AM last night, a bomb exploded in a popular night club in downtown Ugolgrad. This specific club is known for offering a discount on drinks on Thursday nights and is popular with young people, mostly students, for that reason. The current casualty count sits at 35 killed, with the number of wounded sitting over 100. The death count is expected to rise as many wounded are in critical condition. Thankfully, the academic year at Ugolgrad University has been finished for almost an entire month, preventing the casualty count from becoming even more disastrous.

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Gvozdevsk, typically shortened to Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for the attack early this morning. Islamic Jihad was the target of last summer's counterinsurgency operations near Ugolgrad, a result of Grad rocket attacks on civilian population centers originating from that region. The involvement of Islamic Jihad was, however, nearly immediately assumed by local law enforcement and the downtown area of the city and several nearby areas were placed on lockdown while police and Internal Troops search for the bombers. The lockdown is expected to last over the weekend unless the bombers are found before then. Federal Security Service special forces are rumored to have been deployed to the city.

Islamic Jihad was not eliminated after last summer's counterinsurgency operation. The operation was, in the words of the Gvozdevski Armed Forces, intended to "eliminate Islamic Jihad's rocket and artillery capabilities." However, a recent media package released by Islamic Jihad shows videos and images of various rockets and artillery pieces. Islamic Jihad also claims to have expanded in numbers since last summer, becoming even more popular among Islamic peoples of the Kavkaz region and the Islamic peoples of the western steppe. They also claimed to have gained support within the small minority of Islamic Slavs and, allegedly, have begun to recruit foreign fighters.

In the announcement claiming responsibility for the night club bombing, Islamic Jihad claimed that this is only the beginning of what the "invaders and infidels" can expect in the future. Islamic Jihad claimed they are now powerful enough to lay siege to major cities such as Ugolgrad, although no cities were claimed as potential targets, and to be able to fight the Gvozdevki Armed Forces in a conventional fight. These have been dismissed as little more than "empty threats" by both President Saburova and director of the federal Security Service Georgii Konstantinov, although the Armed Forces have been ordered to mobilize reservists and Internal Troops units have been placed on standby around the nation as a precautionary measure. "While these are likely to be little more than empty threats, it's still preferable than to prepare for the worst and have nothing happen than to not prepare and have the major attacks Islamic Jihad is threatening happen," the President said in her press release this morning, following Islamic Jihad's claim of responsibility.

Still, for the residents of Ugolgrad, the threats of Islamic Jihad are all to real. Ugolgrad is a major target for Islamic Jihad as it was built on a major settlement for semi-nomadic Muslims living on the western steppe before the region was colonized by Slavs. Islamic Jihad claims Ugolgrad as the capital of a future Islamic state located on the western steppe and in the Kavkaz region, the founding of which is their ultimate goal.

(Dakar, Dakmoor, Ghant)- At approximately 9 PM GST, Maria of Garza, Crown Princess of Garza, gave birth to identical twin girls in Dakar, Dakmoor.

Dakauregia Palace announced that High Princess Isabella and Princess Valencia were safely delivered at the Dakar General Hospital. Maria’s husband, Crown Prince Martin of Dakmoor, was present for the birth of the couple’s first children. The babies weigh 5.5 pounds, according to the palace, which also says that mother and daughters are doing well. The twins, which are Monochorionic diamniotic, were indistinguishable from each other, leading to Isabella having a big toe nail painted black, while Valencia having one painted purple.

Isabella and Valencia are second and third in line to the throne of Dakmoor, held by their grandfather, King Malibar. They are behind only their father, Crown Prince Martin. Isabella is Heiress Presumptive, and will only inherit the throne if her parents do not eventually have a son. Their uncle Michael, King Consort of New Edom, is pushed to fourth in line, while their aunt Sophia, Empress of Ghant, is pushed to fifth. They are also the first cousins of the Imperial babies born in November.

Due to their birth late in the evening during the sunset, in which the skies of Dakmoor turn purple as the sun goes down, people have taken that as a good omen. Not even an hour old, they already have a nickname. “The Dusk Twins of Dakmoor.” With a name like the Dusk Twins, one can only think that they will make a mark in history. Only time will tell.

The Valaran Empire offers Gifts to the New Ghantish Royals

His Majesty Edric Skaran III has been one of the first to congratulate Princess Maria on the birth her twin daughters, Princesses Isabella and Valencia. In light of the occasion, the Castra Novum issued a statement from is majesty, citing the "wonderful miracle that is bringing new life into this world" and the "enduring strength of Ghantish royal lines that form the bedrock of that nation".

Edric also took the opportunity to mark the occasion by sending gifts, exercising one of his royal prerogatives to do so on behalf of the entire Valaran nation. He chose two matching jade brooches, a goblet of cut agate crystal (image above), and commissioned two emerald tiaras. A 16 gun salute was also held in their honour in Castra's grounds.

This is the latest step in a period of closer ties between Ghant and the Valaran Empire, something spearhead by the royal family. The Skaran line itself has Ghantish heritage, with Anna of house Gentry (1652-1740) marrying Lyrias IV, and giving birth to both Samuel I and Prince Stefan (the father of Castan II). However, while remaining cordial, relations between the nations have been largely distant since the Valaran decolonisation. However, there has been a recent blossoming in affairs, both commercially, and on the diplomatic stage, culminating in the recent visit of Princess Alexia to Astaria.

It is notable that the normally impartial royal family has lead these efforts, effectively amounting to a 'charm offensive'. Several reasons have been speculated for this, but most revolve around a desire to reintegrate back into the web of ties that interlink the monarchies of Aeneas. There is also a desire to counteract the growing influence of both the Agenor Coalition and the Republic of Lanos in the region. However, it is impossible to verify either, since no public statement has been offered. It is hard to determine what has been decided behind the closed doors of the Skaran palaces.

Edric was not the only Valaran figure to celebrate the occasion. The prime Minister's Office echoed the statement of the Castra Novum, and stated its "strong support of the hallowed monarchy and people of Ghant". The leader of the Opposition also took time to express his congratulations, and it is understood that the Lyrvaen, Audley and Arcan families have done the same privately.

Ugolgrad - Early this morning, another attack was carried out in Ugolgrad. A group of men opened fire with automatic weapons on a police checkpoint searching vehicles and people entering or exiting the downtown area while the search for the bombers continued. Police returned fire with pistols, carbines and tear gas grenades and were able to keep the gunmen pinned down until and Internal Troops quick reaction force was able to reach the scene. The gunmen retreated at the sight of the Internal Troops, who followed after the gunmen in pursuit and became involved in a running gun battle through the streets of the city.

After an hours long, city spanning firefight, the gunmen were cornered in a public ice rink, which was closed for the season. Internal Troops and police attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender to no success. This, however, allowed time for Federal Security Service special forces to arrive on scene and prepare an action plan.

Internal Troops opened fire with rifles, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, distracting the gunmen as the special forces maneuvered to a rear entrance. The intensive fire subsided just as soon as it had begun, and the special forces made entry to the building. More gunfire could be heard inside, and after a few tense minutes the special forces had signaled the building as clear. Five men were killed in the raid, A sixth was killed during the pursuit. One of the men killed was confirmed as the bomber responsible for Thursday's bombing, based on security footage obtained from the night club. Weapons seized included five Kalashnikov pattern assault rifles, one of which included a mounted grenade launcher, and a Negev machine gun, the same model used by the Gvozdevski Armed Forces. As well, two civilians were killed and four were wounded during the firefight. One of the wounded civilians is in life threatening condition while the remainder are stable. Internal Troops medics confirmed the civilian casualties were only hit by terrorist gunfire.

"The terrorists seemed to be randomly spraying automatic gunfire hoping to inflict as many civilian casualties as possible. I'm honestly surprised they didn't do more damage," said Senior Lieutenant Semyon Nazarenko, the commander of the quick reaction force that first responded to the gunfire.

In response to the Ugolgrad attacks, the government is expected to vote this week on a large scale anti-terrorism operation against Islamic Jihad. The operation is expected to involve the Armed Forces in some capacity.

In a brief press conference this afternoon, President Saburova announced that Islamic Jihad will be brought to justice "at all costs."

"Whether they leave the battlefield in zip ties or in a body bag with a bullet through the head, we will not stop until every member of Islamic Jihad has been brought to justice. Gvozdevsk is a modern, prosperous country and terrorism has no place anywhere within our borders."

When asked how she expects the international community to react to the terrorist attacks in Gvozdevsk with the many monarchies of Aeneas placing undue importance on the birth of the new Ghantish royal babies, she stated that she can "only hope the international community will overlook monarchist frivolity and focus on the very real threat of terrorism."

As predicted, Haldo Nielsen's Free Democratic Party has won a sweeping victory at yesterday's parliamentary election, taking 31.7% of the overall vote and winning a total of 68 seats out of 200 (34%). It is the first time in over a decade that a party has taken more than 30% of the vote to itself. The Workers' Party took 49 seats, making it the second largest party and, if Nielsen can form a government, the strongest opposition party in parliament. This election put Jo Parti in third place with just 34 seats, with many voters seemingly abandoning the centre-right party in favour of the more moderate liberal policies of the FDP. The FDP took new turf from Jo Parti and the Workers' Party in areas of northern Tarielusta, and the west, and also saw a huge growth in popularity alongside the Greens in the capital.

The President will call upon Haldo Nielsen later today to form a government. The most likely outcome of the talks which are to take place over the next few days will be a coalition between the Free Democrats, the Greens and the Reform Party, which would give Nielsen's government control of 51% of the legislature. Such a government would see fresh, progressive policies put before parliament such as new international diplomacy projects, a reformed tax system, a new sexual education curriculum and broad new powers give to local government. If talks are successful this government could be formed by Wednesday. Many are optimistic that the result of this election will lead Torvalyn out of a period of difficulty and put the country on the map as a major economic and diplomatic player. (Dakar, Dakmoor, Ghant)- Controversy erupted in Ghant following the birth of Princesses Isabella and Valencia of Dakmoor, nieces of the Emperor and Empress of Ghant, after President Saburova of Gvozdevsk commented on the birth of the Princesses of Dakmoor.

"I only hope the international community will overlook monarchist frivolity and focus on the very real threat of terrorism," was what the President said, referring to recent terrorist attacks in the northern Agenor nation of Gvozdevsk, clearly frustrated over the perceived precedence that the twins seem to have in relation to the attacks in the international community.

Crown Prince Martin of Dakmoor took the opportunity to respond later the same day. In a public statement from Dakar General Hospital, the Crown Prince decided to respond in a most unexpected way. "I wanted to take this opportunity to inform President Saburova and the nation of Gvozdevsk that we here in Dakmoor, and all of Ghant, stand with them in this difficult time. It is our hope that the perpetrators of violence and extremism are brought to justice, and that the people of Gvozdevsk are happy and safe."

The Crown Prince also included a picture of the newborn twins sleeping while wrapped in a flag of Gvozdevsk, including the faction, "we stand with Gvozdevsk." In addition, the Crown Prince announced that, "we encourage others to support Gvozdevsk at this time and to help the families of the bombing victims." Another announcement came shortly thereafter, when the Crown Prince said that he would help raise funds for the victims of the Ugoglrad Bombings.

AURINSULA STANDS WITH GVOZDESK
Foreign Ministry promises support

XINJING - In a weekly press conference, representatives from the Foreign Ministry informed reporters that the Government of the Republic of Aurinsula "considers itself an ally in the fight against fear and oppression."

"We side unhesitatingly with the government in opposing terrorism. Our ambassador in Novaya Odessa has already entered talks with the authorities there about the potential scale and nature of Aurinsulan assistance, and we are ready to listen to their requests. The Xinjing Police Department has also forwarded them several documents on suspected fund-raising activity."

Relations with Gvozdesk have historically been warm, dating from Gvozdesk's assistance in the initial development of Aurinsula during the 1930s and 40s. In 2013, President Zhao made a historical visit to meet with Gvozdeski president Saburova, where they co-signed a statement on the promotion of women's participation in government.

In the civilian sphere, the Infinite Life Foundation has announced a collection for the assistance of the bereaved in Gvozdesk, and projections collecting as much as one billion yuan.

Religious Leaders Gather To Protest The Terror Attack In Solidarity With Gvozdesk.

The recent attack in Gvozdesvk by Islamic Jihad has sparked several anti-Islamist protest throughout the Kingdom with the most notable being in Ýærdínbörg, Krjístæna, and Fjordstad. The protests started as solidarity with signs saying "Við Erum Sameinuð" or "We Are United" and marched down Hæðkonungúr Avanue in front of the Royal Palace. The protest grew almost exponentially with a total of 233,000 protesters in Hæðkonungúr Square.

The protest have thusfar been extremely peaceful and inclusive with a lot of Insaeldors small Muslim population have come out against the attacks by Islamic Jihad holding signs saying things like "Allah loves people not terrorist" and Qur'anic versus like "Repel (evil) with what is better. Then will he, between whom and thee was hatred, become as it were thy friend and intimate. And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint. Chapter 41, Verse 34 and 35" to protest the attackers with one of the largest Candle light vigils for the victims heal at the al-Sura nondenominational Mosque.

However some smaller protest in smaller communities most notable in Kystrkärd and Våstna where the protest have devolved into Islamophobic protest with groups like the Knights of Njörðr and Börn Óðins who are pagan white nationalist groups have taken over some of these protests and protested against Islam with signs like "#DeportAllMuslims" and "Terrorist Religions Don't Belong Here" and the two have actually clashed on social media.

On the eve of the reported death of the terrorist the protest swelled up to 310,000 all across the nation with King Varúlfer IV gave a speech to the nation from his Veranda overlooking the square and televised on national TV with a English version broadcasted internationally and on several social media and video sharing sights on the Internet talk about how Insaeldor is to combat the growing threat of Islamic Terrorism and to also give his condolences to the victims of the attack.

"I know some are scared, some are angry, some are unsure, and others are uncaring. We must tackle this threat head on but one can not fight fire with fire. We must not be carpet bombers painting a broad brush across the Islamic community in hopes of killing the enemy but we must be snipers singling out fundamentalist terror when it rears its head." He said in his speech addressing on how we must combat the issue of terrorism. He later went on to say.

"We must stand by our Muslim countrymen. We must be vigilant but to discriminate against the innocent is not the right way. We should also stand with our neighbors in Gvozdevsk. We need to transgress our history of violence and understand that we are humans and we must stand together against threats to us. We should also put the victims in our hearts and minds. As victims of this senseless act violence aimed at a specific group of people different from themselves. This is terrorism pure and simple and we must call it what it is and know why it exist and stomp out the causes and the ideology that prevents this religion of peace and harmony." In a speech that caused a lot of controversy amoungst members of the far-right calling him a "jihadist sympathizer" and with Nationalist Councilmember Anders Værsen saying "to say we're fighting Islamic Terrorism and not fighting Islam is like fighting communist while not fighting Communism." On social media.

Currently there are still thousands of demonstrators are still in the Square although numbers has shrunk since the Kings speech but the larger ones have still stayed interfaith events while locals have pushed out the the white nationalist from the smaller protests. We however have most likely not seen the end of the issue and may see more things to come from this situation.
