Friend or Foe?

In a far away sector of space asteroids clumsily drift among the stars. Two gargantuan binary stars rule this system. A small white speck can be seen in the distance breaking the black background of space.
The view is suddenly in chaos as a ball of red lightning cracks the void.

One patrol ship manifests out of the red lightning ball with a crack of "thunder". The ship looks that of an animal in distress. The windows of the ships flicker with the instability of the ships energy source. Its engines pulse in odd succession. The ship itself looks charred, half of the ship looks as if it is ready to fall off. The gravitational pull of the nearby planet grasps the limping ship.

The captain aboard the ship is coated in blood and burn marks, he has lost control over his ship, all guidance computers give a blaring warning of imminent collision, he looks dimly at the oncomming planet. The command center is littered with bodies that appear to be smoldering, some of the bodies look deep fried. A single private with half her leg missing is still trying to take control of the ship on her control center. Her face is is in confusion, she is terrified but trying to muster her courage. She turn her head to look at her captain, he stands there with one hand on his center console with a face only a trained military official could have in this situation. The captain gives her a firm nod as they lock eyes, they know their death is inevitable. The young private hesitates before trying to once again take control of the situation. She takes in a deep breath and slides off her seat, her leg providing a pool of warm blood. The color Red encircles all the windows as the ship violently enters the atmosphere.

A small fireball graces the sky of the planet, the ship splinters and cracks as half of it is sectioned off and disintegrates,

The ship smacks the snowy terrain several times like a rock skipping across a pond. The ship jets out green and brown dirt as it scars the planet. It comes to a rough halt, a small orb ejects out of the smoking ship, it hovers just above the destroyed ship while emitting a intense red flash every other second.

"There comes a time when the walls will be torn down and the wilderness beckons to be discovered. It is time, our time, for Hedron to discover the wilderness beyond its walls. To expand and prosper like the Hedronians we are."
- Jaren Deters, Exploration Corps.

Eye Spy

Within' a large dense asteroid field, around the uncharted star system, rests within' three Agamemnon Transport Ships retrofitted for exploration duties for discovering never seen star systems for the Empire of Hedron. Huge machines towing large rocks mined from a certain large asteroid cluttered with materials. They continued to cut within' the large rock before excavating the piece back towards the 300 meter long civilian ship.

"Er'ght boys!" An old groggy voice traveled through the frequency calling for everyone's attention, "Tim'er bring'er all in!" He proceeded to press a button followed by a flip of a switch from the bridge of his vessel.

In reaction the ship begins transforming as it opens the front portion unveiling the enormous insides of the ship filled with various junk and storage of other mobile suits. The individuals who were floating out in space began guiding their way inside, the individuals inside the giant suits gathered the remaining asteroid chunks floating around them and hauled them inside. The ship shook as the 18 meter tall Genoace variant suit begins walking and "parking" themselves onto a suit retainer. It clamps right around them as the pilot ejects from the torso of the suit and floated downwards in free fall state followed by other pilots. Some of the individuals that ran out to maintain the machines were robotic in first sight as they wore normal maintenance crew uniforms - attending the docking mobile suits and assessing issues the pilots were having before getting to work. Others were carrying weapons, presumably the marines of the ship to defend plausible actions of boarding and they usually stroll around the cat walks to have easy eyes on the precious mobile suits and cargo.

The sirens rang out again as the ship began transforming for the last time, sealing the front of the ship closed and its inhabitants being restored to artificial gravity. They removed their helmets and began conversing with one another as air was restored back into the storage/hangar area, but the ones in machines however spoke in a very human-like voice. Along their arms were painted words "HERALD'" sentient machines, leaning into being classified as a full body modification cyborg due to being humans at soul. The intercoms screeched open and three *dub dub* were emitted through its volume. "Er'ght!" The same groggy voice screeched loudly, "It's tim'er to begin'er jump out'er 'ere. Make'er sure 'erthing is secure er'ight?!" Then just that it ends. Everyone shrugged and returned to work as the pilots head back inside leaving the workers to the lifeless mobile suits.

*Meanwhile on the bridge*

The Captain wears his uniform sloppily as if he's been in so many tours into the unknown that he has given less of a shit about proper dress code and manners, especially as a Captain to the ship and the crew. Though however, fortunately, the crew members maintain a strict level of professionalism than the Captain himself and on of them spoke out loud of the working chatter of all the individuals on board, "Captain!" She stands up from her console and waits for the Captain to trot his way over to her.

"What'er is it?!" Unfolding his hands he begins walking towards her - eyeing the console.

She points towards a planet overlay, "I've detected a small signal before disappearing into the planet." She begins pressing a couple buttons to enlarge it and replay the moment she saw precisely, "I've asked Minerva to analyze the small bits of information, but I'm sure nothing just appears and disappears from our scanners."

The Captain nods as he listens, mostly half listening anyways, "I see." Facing the bridge window he spoke loudly, "Min'erva - bring'er overlay up. Gimme'er what you see."

An AI voice responded as commanded, "As you wish Captain Dusking Star."

Everyone simultaneously cringed as Minerva said the personalized nickname of the Captain. To say the least it was pretty gut cringe worthy, but they continued to work whilst trading disgusted facial expressions with one another. Others were holding their laughter.

He continues to observe the information that Minerva had processed. "Explain'er this to me will ya," he asks whilst rubbing his chin.

"The mysterious object from a brief sight of detection to the last known sighting is 77% sure that it is not of this system origin Captain," she pauses as the hologram envelops and transforms with data of the object gathered by mere visuals. "I'd say its worth checking out. A small detour wouldn't hurt our schedule Captain Dusking Star."

Again, everyone cringed at the hearing of the nickname.

He nods as he approaches his Captains Chair, "Alright'er den Min'erva. Tak'er out towards the planet den."

She replies happily, "As you wish Captain. Hyperdrive trajectory Seven Dash Two Alpha in place. Steady as she goes."

The transport ship ignited its hulking blue ever glow followed by the other sister ships exiting the asteroid field so as to reduce hyperdrive interruptions of other mass objects. Before then the ships sped forward before slowing down for a mere second then disappearing towards the last known location of the mysterious object. It barely took 10 seconds as they just jumped a couple light seconds and enclosed onto the location. They were greeted by the beautiful texture of the planet. Luscious and filled with plant life. Though they haven't been on the planet surface as of yet - unscheduled landings with the Exploration Corps could lead to internal conflicts with other nations that's why, but flying close to one wasn't much of a problem of breaking protocol.

The AI spoke loudly to break the silence, "Beginning the last of the scans to see if the unknown object made planet fall or disintegrated on the planet Captain."

Nodding, "Right'er....you go do that."

The three civilian ships orbit above the planet - surveying the unknown contact.

Warm air, Cold snow.

The inside of the ship was dark, blood covered almost every inch, a small beam of light entered a hole in the hull. a soft red glow slowly pulsed inside of the ship from several shattered monitors. It was almost impossible to tell where the ceiling was and where the floor began. There was a constant low howl from the wind peaking through the holes of the ship. Ever so often a few clicks would go off from the computers still trying to do their job.

Young Private Ayela let out a soft disgruntled moan as she lay upside down hanging from some twisted metal that held her in place. Her hands hung freely as she regained consciousness, she quickly blinked while letting out a quiet but hearty "Fuck." As she slowly moved her body the metal holding her gave way, she collapsed to the ground thumping her head on the blood soaked metal. A protruding spike poked at her raw open wound that was the cut off point where she severed her leg. her eyes widened and she clenched her teeth, her blood shot eyes let a few tears escape her. Her military discipline kept her intact. After a few panting breaths she mustered to move her body against some metal that reminisced a wall. The only thing that stopped her from loosing consciousness was her adrenaline, her leg had stopped bleeding down to a trickle.

Ayela looked around the ship trying to spot medical supplies, it was incredibly dark, she had to wait for the pulsing red light to look around her, time was not in her favor. Her breathing quickened as she looked desperately in between each red pulse. Her eyes latched onto a metallic that seemed to have the inscription for medical supplies. She wasn't very sure as it was covered in coagulated blood and she only had one second to tell from each pulsing light. She clamored onto what she could while dragging her body onto the box, she could feel every broken bone in her body sliding across the floor, the pain was unbearable.

After what seemed a year she finally got to the box and was relived to find several medical supplies inside. Thanks to Reikuran advancements she knew that her leg injury would not be fatal but she had to act fast. Her hands shook and she desperately clasped a cauterizing tool that looked very similar to a large pen, she took a hold of her leg and pointed the tool at it, she pressed a button near the top and a white gas leaked onto her large wound. Ayela was very pleased that it did not cause any pain. The gas dissipated leaving a healed stump. She expressed a small smile from the release of endorphin's that the gas triggered in her body. In her native language she said in a reserved voice " Where the fuck am I?" She spoke out loud to the ship " Nero, where are we?" no response came only several clicks and sparks from somewhere in ship. She was to weak to do anything for now, she only hoped that the ships distress beacon was working. She grabbed a nutrition bar from the medical bar and ate to regain her strength.

A lone transport ship descended down unto the planet as the heat dissipates from its outer hull, being greeted by the cold winter of the foreign world. They hovered above the dark clouds before completing its entrance through the atmosphere and system checks. They lowered deeper and closer towards the planet surface - the dark ocean-like clouds swallows them in before disappearing from sight. Seconds passed before they've reached the bottom layer of the clouds, below them was hazy due to the cold fog that embellishes the surface and their hull being covered in ice. A cold greeting indeed.

The front of the ship opens revealing four Genoace Civilian Mobile Suits, the ramp drops and the entire cargo hold was churned by the cold freezing winter. The large suits stood still, unharmed by the sudden temperature change. In fact, it shouldn't be much of a difference from space climate, the Genoace was designed to be robust in even the harshest weather.

A male voice spoke through the frequency briefly, "Geno A 1 online." Then the suit comes to life as its arms begins to move and fold. The visor shines brightly for a second, a green bright glow before becoming steady.

"Geno A 2 online," a female voice this time. Also doing the same procedure.

"Geno A 3 online." says the other.

"Geno A 4 online. All suits are functioning. Awaiting launch." says the last one.

The first mobile suit, wear and tear visible on its outer armor and especially appears to look very dirty in appearance, motions his arms towards his retainer attaining a large shield about 12 meters tall and 6 meters wide with a small slit for the user to see through. He also motions for his suit to grab a basic beam rifle for self defense. The others did the same.

"Alright ya lil' shits," the pilot in Geno A 1 says roughly. "No heroes - we aren't military pilots. We are to investigate the unknown object and report back ASAP. We maybe big, but there are probably lifeforms here that are bigger." His mobile suit turns around as if its a large human giant clad in armor. It moved fluidly and within' human moving parameters. His shield resting nicely on its left arm and his beam rifle slung just right over its shoulder, "You all got me right? We're just exploring."

They responded with a sluggish salute with the use of their mobile suits. Bringing up their left arm making it into a straight salute and mockingly replied, "Roger that sir!" And they snickered.

He grunts, "Hate you guys." Turning around he steps forward close to the ramp now being ravaged by the cold nature of the world. Within' his enclosed cockpit he's surrounded by screens displaying multitude of information being provided by his mobile suit. Ranging from power, ammunition, and durability, etc. With a turn of his head the suit itself responds accordingly. His right side clouded by the clouds and he turns to his left to be greeted by the same. He then received the message to launch and initiate search mission from the flight officer. He raises his right hand and performed the universal hand sign to move forward and follow and he then proceeded to run down the ramp and forced his 40 or so metric ton machine to jump ?? amount of kilometers below. His civilian squad mates followed suit.

"Wooooo!" One of them exclaimed as they jumped off. The experience exhilarating, "This never gets old!"

The leader didn't mind, but kept eye on his altitude descending fast in front of him. A woman's voice is audible in his headset as he can visualize the fast moving air glistening past his visual sensors of his suit, "30 thousand...25 thousand...20 thousand..." He proceeds to flip on switches and performs a quick test of his jump jets installed onto the feet and onto his back. They burst small flames ensuring its ability to function properly.

"...15 thousand...10 thousand..."

As soon as he hears the ten he begins to issue his first order, "Being to decelerate!" Jams his throttle forward to max and by decompressing the pedals. The flames charged and blasted outwards in immense force beginning to slow down the massive 40 metric ton machines in mid air. The G-force from the sudden change of trajectory caused everyone to lean forward, but the seat belts kept them in place on their seats.

The woman continued to count down, but in a struggled manner, "....7....thou...sand....5....thou...sand..."

The entire cockpit illuminated red along with a giant warning symbol replacing the visual screen of the pilot - WARNING DECELERATE! WARNING DECELERATE! - Before disappearing and returning and greeting the pilot of mountains and trees off into the foggy distance. They were closing the ground fast.

"3....thousand.....2....thousand...."

"Fuck fuck fuck!" He exclaims to himself, "Slow down ya fuckin' bastard!" He presses his throttle even further even though its already at max throttle. He then hears the last of the thousands and the AI of the mobile suit replaced with dread of three words.

"P r e p a r e - F o r - I m p a c t ," she says calmly - cutting all communications as if its the only thing that he'd only hear.

The machine smashed onto the terrain followed by three other thunderous impacts. The entire screen blocked and static replaced the vision of the male pilot. He sighs heavily and wonders if he's dead. He looks at himself briefly then a combination of his joysticks and his pedals his machine begins to move, surprisingly.

The screens turn back on and he shakes his head, of which his mech does the same - shaking off all the snow from its visor. "V i s u a l - C o m m u n i c a t i o n s - R e s t o r e d ," the AI said as the pilot was flooded by foliage of trees and a tall looming mountain off into the horizon, "I - D e t e c t - A b n o r m a l - B r e a t h i n g . D o - Y o u - R e q u i r e - A s s i s t a n c e ?"

He continues with his heavy breathing, "I..nearly...shit myself..."

"N o t e d - P i l o t ."

The AI's voice disappears from his headset replaced with laughter from his squad mates, "Holy shit! That was fucking awesome!" One of them exclaims loudly.

"Whooo! Let's do it again!" Another says enthusiastically.

He shakes his head and gave himself a small chuckle before looking around himself. His entire mobile suit was torso deep into the snow and attempts to get out, but falls right back in. "..Yeah...help me out of here." His squad mates looked at each other as they shrugged themselves off after the hard landing, adjusting their red/white shield and beam rifle. They proceeded to haul the stuck mobile suit onto its belly and the leader pushed himself upwards as his beam rifle falls off his right shoulder smashing onto the floor before being picked back up. He sighs, "Alright. So. Now where is the unknown object?"

A screen opens up to his left and its a visual call from his female squad mate, but her features covered by the tinted mask, "Directly north west of our position. It's about 20 miles out."

He nods and unslung his beam rifle and carried it with his right hand as his shield is position in a ready stance, "Alright. Let's get a move on. Staggard column formation. I'll take point." They begin moving towards the crash site as they pushed away the alien vegetation aside. They tower over them, but other trees coated with snow seemed to tower them even more as they pressed on deeper into the alien jungle.
