Would being launched from an electromagnetic rail launcher assist in that?

DU is pyrophoric. Not to mention how are you going to get it to stay in orbit?

Airtight-envelopes that break off during re-entry?

Stablization jets on the platform?

EDIT: Woah, wait. I don't even use DU. I use tungsten.

So basically you're spending millions upon millions for something that will probably be extremely inaccurate, very detrimental if missed, and has a giant vulnerability, not to mention costs you perhaps BILLIONS to keep it up?

Why would it be extremely inaccurate? It's not like my targeting systems are a guy with a spyglass on a mountain somewhere.

Yes, the vulnerability thing is an issue, but I've had them since almost my nation's founding, and no one has attempted shooting them down. Yet.

Debt-based economy, woo.

No, for at least the next few decades, sticking things on top of gigantic pillars of explosives and blowing them into orbit will remain our least crazy option for almost all payloads.

Coming from the guy with a drone army and AI, talking to the guy with a drone army, power armor, and optical cloaking tech and robotic medical augmentation.

I think as far as realism goes, we've bent the rules.

Hey, Nexus is the only unrealistic portion of my nation. Nexus and Fortress. Nexus and Fortress and Guardian and the MAAPS...

My nation's spacefaring is realistic.

...

Except for Destiny.

And Certain portions of Hailstorm.

And arguably some of EagleNet, SentinelNet and SpyglassNet.

...

Okay, fine Congreveopia is one big basket of unrealism. Go talk to Hale Isles if you want a realistic nation. I think they're considering launching their first satellite.

*Stares at you*

This is why we come here, because we all break the rules.

Mobile Suit Gundam's nth itineration of horse-beatings.

Y'all know you were a kid in the 90's when you see this video and DON'T immediately think Halo.

As far as URA's debt-based economy, the Empire could probably give his government a loan. #20TrilGDP
(Well, that's if you use NSEcon, but whatever!)

If we pool our budget, we could probably make a simple part of a sector of Babylon 5.

Quick. we must look our budgets and create a space base.

Hmm. I can probably throw that under defense. I can pitch in... 1 trillion-ish?
