How far is the mars mission at the moment?

Lets do a gathering of the nations personal then launch first and then we'll start the space faring and adventuring from there.

The designs and plans are being made, but there is a pretty good idea as to their designs and planning. I could post a schematic of the ship later.

we can use my shuttle to get us to space then your spaceship can take us from there.

Okay. I mean that sounds good, but do we even have a goal for the mission yet? It seems to me like we're charging into this a bit fast.

Good point.

Personally, I'd be interested in studying the caves and/or lava tubes to assess their potential for use as the location of a longer-term base.

So this will be a scouting mission only (we can make a full base setup mission RP sometime in the future)

Sumaltheria would probably focus on gathering specimens on studying, an 'testing out the planet' to make any future expeditions better.

The overall goal is to go to Mars, asses/study Mars. This would be done to be able to determine the viability of later missions.

So how big of a ship do we need? I'd imagine this would primarily be based on how many people we were going to send to the surface. Realistically, we probably only need to send two down, but think everyone's going to want to have at least one person of their nationality walk on the surface.

As would Torrumbarry; the next frontier is knocking on our doors, kinsmen!

So who's pooling in funds for the expedition, or is the ISA itself funding the operation?

Sup spaceman

The ISA will be funding it but we should also contribute a bit into the pot

Let's say that participating nations fund the majority of the mission, but anything that will provide a beneficial contribution to the entire ISA should be paid for by all ISA members.

Ok, sorry for the endless, pestering questions but...

Where will we launch the shuttle from?

What are the core objectives (e.g. study of atmosphere, existence of water, extraterrestrial life-forms etc.)?

Will there be a limit on the number of astronauts permitted on the shuttle?

Can you fit a robotics operator on that ship? (Congreveopia is going to send a robot. Or two. Or a couple hundred).

Servinta will send an engineer for this mission.
