A convoy of pickup trucks rounded a corner, emerging on Kadyrov Street, their target less than one hundred metres away now. In each truck was six men, armed with an array of weapons ranging from assault rifles like the G3 and AK-74 to RPGs and submachine guns. As each person jumped out of the vehicles onto the tarmac below, their commander gave them a blessing, "لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله" or "There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God." The heaviest of the trucks, modified as an improvised battering ram, lined up, before charging at full speed through the main entrance into the complex, leaving it wide open for assault. With shouts of "Allāhu Akbar", the men cut down a pair of guards immediately, no time to react at the fighters coming at force. Members of the Carlossian Armed Forces, unarmed and unprepared could only dive for cover, griping any fire-arm within reach. Another soldier let out a blood-curdling scream as he was filled with bullets, dropping like a ragdoll onto the concrete, just as the first few soldiers emerged from the armoury of the base, wielding Heckler & Koch G36s. They returned fire, in possession of far more superior weapons, cutting down at least three of the attackers. However it was a case of quantity over quality, and the few remaining soldiers were forced to retreat back inside, with more enemy reinforcements appearing to arrive every few minutes. One by one, the one-hundred and fifty strong garrison was struck down, the attackers raiding every building, every hiding spot, letting none live. Within minutes the peaceful evening of October 4th 2014 had become a massacre. A blue, white and green banner climbed up the flag pole of the main building. The very moment that piece of cloth had reached the top, the war began.

"So... we had no indication that this attack was going to happen did we?" Carl Tobin sighed heavily at the thought of another war... ANOTHER war, as if he had gotten involved in enough wars in his mere three year long term as Supreme Chancellor of the Carlossian Federal Republic. Minister for Defence and Chief of the General Staff, Régulo Moran sat some few meters away, mesmerised by the images coming from the television. All the major news broadcasters were covering it, CBC, TBC, AAN, ZPBN, you name it. All had the same iconic footage: the flag of Dhechnia fluttering above, with victorious rebels holding the defeated Carlossians by the scruff of the neck. "They knew when to strike didn't they... I thought the chance of attack was..." Moran butted in, "Zero sir?" he couldn't help but chuckle despite the rather dire situation. "I suppose so." Carl shrugged in reply. "Have they made any further gains?" Moran thought for a moment then switched the television back on, this time turning to Bratislavian Central News who were currently contacting their correspondent in the city of Benyetz and displaying a map of the republic. "Oh just about all of Tozny, Chancellor." Carl looked blankly for a few seconds before grabbing his phone and dialling his secretary. After a few seconds of what seemed like unintelligible mumbling, he turned to the general. "Come with me, we have a nation to address." Before going, Moran glanced at an email which had just came in, tutting at the the name of the person who had signed it. He printed it off, following the Chancellor out the door.

New Carlingford, Carloso - Shock wouldn't describe the reaction by the Carlossian government at the seizure of the Dhechian capital of Tozny earlier today. After nine years of relatively peaceful rule by the pro-Carlossian Batirbek Sultygov, it would now seem that he has turned against New Carlingford, waging a campaign to unify all of the Dhechian Autonomous Republic. Rebels seized weapons ranging from assault rifles to helicopters and tanks in the Batukayev Military Base where reportedly forty soldiers died in fighting. The rest are believed to have been taken prisoner by the rebel forces. Supreme Chancellor Carl Tobin has vowed to send a large naval taskforce to Dhechnia and aid possibly pro-Carlossian forces trapped in the geographically awkward country.

Subject: Operation Hot Shores

150 Vancouvian Special Forces (VSF) under my command landed at the Vizirov Peninusla, north of Tozny. Our subs at their current number did not have the capacity to hold and extract more than 20 additional men, so I ordered a defensive operation while I called for five more subs from the eastern shores of Vancouvia to head towards our base.

Upon landing, I ordered Alpha through Orion squads to locate the Carlossian forces. We found your 65 soldiers held up in a small base on the northern tip of the peninsula. After exchange of signals, we were able to show that we were friendly. We then assumed command, moving the combined force towards the western cliffs on the peninsula, a stronger point to defend from.

An hour later, our forces were engaged by a small contingent of rebel Dhechnians via small arms fire. My sniper teams, located on the flanks of the main force, were able to quickly dispatch the majority of their force, the survivors fleeing south. I chose not to engage them further, instead capturing two wounded Dhechnians from the skirmish. We are currently in the process of interrogating them.

Five more submarines are headed towards our position and should be here shortly for exfiltration. In addition, two carriers, the VS Freedom and VS Majestic have been sent to the area, holding a few squadrons of fighters and bombers.

This organisation has abandoned all interpretations of the democratic process by choosing to take up arms against a legitimate government, and their slaughter of an innocent military garrison is an abhorrent violation of the etiquette of warfare which the Parliament of New Korongo has no choice but to condemn. While the original intentions and concerns of the DPR may have been legitimate, it is clear they have been corrupted by extremist elements of the organisation who aim for nothing more than death and destruction. With that said, the government of the United Provinces of New Korongo is hopeful that more moderate elements of the DPR do not follow the wishes of these extremists. As a result of this, the armed forces of New Korongo are already preparing for an immediate military deployment to Dhechnia. We envision a three part plan to support your own military forces in the region. Immediately after the ultimatum has expired, three airborne battalions will be deployed to Benyetz to reinforce allied units located there. This force will fly in from the south, avoiding the bulk of the DPR's air defence capability. Once this is accomplished, the Royal Air Corps will begin a long range bombing campaign against DPR forces across Dhechnia. SEAD operations will initially be the main focus of this campaign, opening up the hostile airspace to allied airpower. The third stage will be the deployment of a naval fleet with an amphibious force off the coast, which will be able to land and eventually link up with the airborne units in Benyetz. It will take some time for the naval component to arrive, as it is still being organised, but the airborne deployment and air campaign should be able to hold back DPR forces until then. If this plan is acceptable to your government, we will begin combat operations as soon as the ultimatum expires or is rejected by the DPR.
