"So you were right, Wilhelm!" Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, Erik Von Bernstein said, holding his glass of wine in one hand, the U.S. President's letter in the other, "Maybe you aren't as useless as I originally thought!" "Well, Von Bernstein, it was rather simple to assume such an action by the Americans. It looks to be just like Korea, Vietnam, or Germany herself, U.S.-funded lapdogs claiming to want freedom, when they are only being exploited," Wilhelm Mohnke said, taking a sip from his own glass. In reality, Mohnke did not believe a word he just said past U.S.. If anything, he thought it the opposite. But he wouldn't tell the Secretary. Not yet, anyway.
Skagerrak, strait between Occupied Norway and Denmark
The Type XXVI U-Boat Dönitz slid silently through the waves, the hull gleaming with water. The captain, a gruff sailor with many years at sea, looked through the periscope, looking around for Cargo ships to search and/or destroy. Suddenly, a young sailor, the SONAR operator, pulled the captain away from the periscope, saying nervously, "Captain! 5 Ships off the port bow!" "Good job sailor, you've earned your pay for the week," the Captain said, quickly serving the periscope to port. "What do you see, Captain?" The sailor asked. "2 Cargo ships, 2 Destroyers, 1 Cruiser," Came the reply. As everyone on the Dönitz scrambled for battlestations, the sub submerged to torpedo depth, the Radio operator contacting the Cruiser, "This is DDV U-Boat Dönitz transmitting to unknown Crusier, state your business, and halt your convoy while we get a search team out here." But as the Captain watched the convoy through the periscope, he noticed something quite peculiar. They were flying Old Glory. The warships were from the U.S. Navy.
Leningrad, home port of the Baltic fleet
Mikhail looked at the radar screen for the Jutland straits, at the edge of the screen 5 ships began moving towards to straits, he turned to his commander "Comrade, we have 5 ships nearing the opening of the Baltic, request permission to send TU-25 patrol aeroplane from our base in Germany" the commander came over "Permission granted" Mikhail rang the base near Berlin and minutes later 1 TU-95 took off and radioed to Leningrad "Leningrad this is CTZ-95 over Denmark, nearing unidentified fleet" seconds later he came back again "Leningrad, they number 2 Cargo ships, 2 Destroyers, 1 Cruiser, German ships are tracking them" all this was being record and he came back "Leningrad, ships fly US flag, should I attack or follow?" in Leningrad the commander who was listening immediately began to contacted the Baltic Fleet in Helsinki, Mikhail was shocked "Follow them, if they near WP waters warn them and attack"
Across the gulf of Finland in Norway the Baltic fleet had been alerted and most of the fleet, including its 2 carriers began to move quickly in to open water. In navy and air force bases around the sea troops were rushing to battle positions and reading ships and plains.
