"The Corridor", Near Colberder, Ontorisa Nexus
1925 Hours
107th Koloonia Jalaväerügement 'The Watchers', 2nd Battalion, 4th Company, 1st Platoon, 2nd Squadron, 1st Team, Corporal Syderle Heysalike
The Corridor was a fortification near the bustling city of Colberder. Located on the beautiful Gesoalipe River and flanked by acres of jungle, the Corridor served as a training ground or a garrison military base for the troubled colony of Ontorisa Nexus. No, Ontorisa was not an empire or an imperialist, but an expansionist. Ontorisa Nexus was one of the first ever colonies of Ontorisa and it was also the most rebellious. Now, today, things were to change.
Heysalike sat on top of a stool inside of his company's barracks cleaning out his 6.5x45 DES CLZ 4 Assault Rifle. He was humming to himself, feeling good about today. With the lack of calls coming in from his regiment's operational area, there was supposed to be a platoon versus platoon rugby game later. Only thing their captain asked was that everyone cleaned up their barracks quickly before 2 PM sharp. What were they? Four? Heysalike looked up at the clock above the doorway. The analog clock read 12:09. His bunkmate, Private First Class Pavorb Sersasne, was busy sweeping under the bunks and under the tables. The room itself was cozy, small with two stools, a desk, two closets, one for each of them, and a window looking outside. Outside was the 2nd Company, doing drill on the square. Hilarious Heysalike thought to himself as he looked outside at a couple of the soldiers being screamed at by the drill sergeant.
"Syderle," Sersasne spoke up as he stood up from sweeping. "Are we almost done?"
"Just about, I finished cleaning your rifle and I'm almost done mine." Heysalike replied, looking back down at his CLZ 4.
Just as Heysalike began putting the assault rifle back together, sirens erupted outside. Then Heysalike heard an explosion, then another, then another and finally outside where the 2nd Company were training, an explosion erupted right on top of them, spewing blood, limbs and organs all around the drill square.
"Holy shit!" Sersasne looked outside before looking for his rifle. "Are the ONIE launching an attack?!"
"Clearly!" Heysalike reached behind him and grabbed Sersasne's CLZ 4 and tossed it to him.
Sersasne caught it and cocked the bolt on the side of it before opening his closet and starting to put on his combat vest. Heysalike did likewise and strapped on his PPE-62 Combat Helmet before stepping into the hallway. The 4th Company was rapidly mobilizing, their training from the ORSV soldiers kicking in at an amazing speed as the company began to run over to one of the armouries. Inside, they grabbed magazines, fragmentation grenades, smoke grenades, flash bangs and many more. Heysalike himself grabbed four magazines of 6.5x45mm DES rounds. Running outside, a gun fight had already begun, with two soldiers lying dead at the gates and three more prone, occasionally standing up to return fire.
"4th Company! Delta! Form up in improv teams and push back these insurgents!" Their captain shouted as most of the company began finding cover. "You guys still want that rugby game right?!"
Just then, an explosion rocked the gate where the defence operated by the three men were. They were vaporized in a cloud of red mist. Heysalike looked at this in shock and horror. Since when did the independence insurgents have access to explosive equipment like this? Regardless, the 107th was expected to push them back. An armoured vehicle had pushed right through the gate and was clearly one of the insurgent's only armoured vehicles. It was a Soviet-built BMP-1, and it was coming in guns blazing. A few of the 4th's soldiers who were caught in the open were immediately wasted by the vehicle. Heysalike watched one of his comrades hit the dirt, gurgling occasionally before stopping and going limp.
"AT! Where's the AT?!"
"Lieu's down! Damn it!"
"Ceysia! Push your team upwards!"
"Where the hell is the AT?! That BMP's destroyin' us!"
Heysalike frantically looked around, looking for an anti-tank rocket launcher, or something to get rid of the BMP as it took another life. Insurgent infantry began to pour through the gate and a firefight broke out, the 107th soldiers quickly putting down a couple of the insurgents before they even got to cover. Staying behind a concrete barrier, Heysalike began to move back to the armoury, hoping to find something that could destroy the BMP there. He was in luck as he entered the armoury. There was about 6 Projectile Firing Anti-Tank 86mm Rocket Launchers all forgotten by the 4th as they had rushed out. Taking one of the launchers and grabbing two 86mm rockets, Heysalike sprinted back outside and ducking back into cover. Loading a rocket into the launcher, he looked over, then brought the launcher over, aimed it at the BMP's left track and fired. The rocket did the work as it smashed into the track and broke it, immobilizing the vehicle. The crew, knowing that they were prone to another hit, were beginning to bail out when Heysalike hit the BMP again with a second rocket, managing a hit on the side of the BMP. The soldiers who were near that side were killed by the explosion and shrapnel. The insurgents, knowing better than to engage in an infantry fight, withdrew, quickly. But it was a Pyrrhic victory for the 107th. For killing two dozen insurgents and destroying a BMP, they had lost at least a company worth of soldiers. That was the 2nd Company, who were caught in the open during the fight, most of them killed by the mortar strikes.
Standing up and dropping the launcher, Heysalike looked around at the dead bodies of insurgents and his comrades, his brothers-in-arms, his friends. Among them, was his best friend and roommate, Private First Class Pavorb Sersasne.
