OOC: here are some guidelines/rules.

A: Have fun, and don't be a dick if you join

B:this rp is open to anyone, and if anything is an issue TG me or some of the GESO members in it.

C: If in doubt about something ask, and be reasonable, don't send fleets! With thousands of ships in to this thread.

D: Every action has consequences, so bear in mind if you intend to do something it may cause an international incident (depending) I enjoy political drama as well as war and character stuff so.

From once we start..

It was often said, that curiosity killed the cat; in the case of space travel and exploration it was a roll of the proverbial dice, the universe was both shrouded in mystery and in some cases mystique. The Terran Alliance and her Allies often took on the challenge of exploring systems for good or ill, if not then why travel the stars at all? Today was no different, on board the GRV Prometheus DDG-182, a lone Terran Destroyer, Captain Rafael Franklin, his executive officer Commander Leroian-Kah and their crew weren't particularly thrilled by the mission they had been assigned. Those orders where to Escort the GSV Irden, named with the dracoian word for quest. And indeed they were undertaking a quest of sorts, as they were headed directly toward the periphery of the galaxy, and everyone of these men, women and AI's were used to it, being that both researchers and star command officers often shared at least that one thing in common; being flung in to the unknown to attempt to quantify more of the vast expanse that was the universe.

Rafael shifted in his chair lightly, his hands clasping the armrests of his seat, and eyes wandering about the CIC of the destroyer, it wasn't too small nor too big, but it was graced with holographic consoles and stations, indeed its walls on either side as well as astern were host to various stations all manned by aliens and Terrans. The rhythm of blips and beeps from the consoles filling the atmosphere of the CIC was seamlessly broken as Prometheus, the ships avatar and the representative of the vast and seemingly infinitely complex superluminal mind of the ship gave a status report, her tone was casual yet unremarkable.

“I just thought I should let you all know we'll be jumping in to the Nurian system shortly, the Irden's AI has informed me that they should arrive a few minutes after we do.”

Prometheus smiled, she appeared in a lithe , well curved form with long strands of red hair , her smooth and supple dark skin seemed without flaw. Adding on to her statement , and as Rafael glanced up at her, she said.

“Its typical, just because we're a war ship we have to hold their hands, and put our nose in a place to check what long range sensors couldn't, and possibly find something no one wants.. But I guess its life eh?”

Prometheus just chuckled, Rafael blinked he straightened himself up within his seat and replied eyes glancing out toward the sensor globe again.

“It is the way of things, until the universe is explored, or indeed safe. People like us will never be out of work, hell .. Who would want to live in such a predictable verse eh? Besides, I like my job, and the pay; the pension after I retire will be nice too.”

Rafael let his attention wander to Leroian, who was a well built Ixcumanian (dragonish people!) with dark blue scales , folded wings and that tail curled up behind him. Leroian looked back, with those golden eyes ebony horns on his head glinting from the light of the destroyer.

“What do you think commander Kah? Would you prefer it if we knew everything?”

Leroian shook his head, he replied that voice of his heavy with an iconic accent and a low with an unmistakeably deep bass.

“We-.. We may be proud, but even we prefer that some things remain a mystery. Some secrets are only for the gods.”

The reptilian nodded once more, Rafael smiled again he looked up to Prometheus quipping back.

“Well I think we have your answer, still nothing of note ahead?”

Prometheus shrugged , she turned around to face toward the view screen, then said in a casual manner resting her hands on a console in-front of her.

“Not a thing, if anything is waiting we'll get a better view of it once we drop out of hyper-space. But I'm inclined to believe that those expensive set of eyes as advanced as they are, aren't deceiving me.”

Rafael turned his attention to the screen ahead, the torrents of blue and white primordial energy, signifying the infinite fabric where all of existence and its multiple dimensions came from spun around and around forming a wormhole like tunnel. He and his crew, and indeed the ship was just but a microbe by any measure here.

The sleek neutronic hull of the ship with its its subtle and gray plating, was alight in a shower of colors as tendrils of energy struck the D-feild and subsequently scattered in to a colorful aura , that engulfed leading edges that the field had formed; like a river it cascaded over Prometheus, coming to its crescendo before trailing off in to hyperspace, becoming lost in its ever present tidings. The hyper-spatial tube came to an end violently, as the ship tunneled once more in to normal space. From hyper-space it looked as if a vast chasm, opened up from the chaotic tidings of the fabric of creation to the calm, eerie blackness of normal space. Outwardly a burst of energy from the other side it would but for an instant be brighter than the star of the system itself and set a light for that split second of existence the skies of the worlds that called the Nurian system home. That maelstrom, that vortex of energy tendrils arcing out like hands of a divine being trying to grasp in to the seeming nothingness of the space around it disappeared the moment the Prometheus had be spat out, ending the window in to the infinite reaches where once she came.

Of course, all this was lost on anyone inside the ship, it was routine and they didn't exactly have such a view. Rafael sunk in to his chair, the star was a bright blue super giant, class O, the radiant and life giving rays of energy reached out to touch several worlds including a Terra class planet, twice the size of Terra or Neo-Terra herself. This planet Nurian IV, had two companion moons, and seemed like a perfect place to harbor life, or past life.

“Huh, I'm detecting something around the star, its faint but I can tell its not a natural variation in radiation or amplitude.”

Prometheus had spoken up, she furrowed an eyebrow and ran her nimble digits across her strands of blonde hair pushing it out of her way. Rafael blinked, looking to the sensor readouts he knew immediately what Prometheus was talking about. The screen changed to a visual view using data compiled from every sensor they had, down to the exact field properties. It was a massive array of segmented spheres, suspend on the top and bottom of a vast band that while not fully encircling the star, had terminated at its half way point. To Rafael’s continued amazement, this ring chrome in color seemed to be attached by pylons to a vast network of monoliths or devices floating on the surface of the blindingly bright star itself.

“That, that- That's something, what is it .. And why didn't our long range scanners detect this before?”

Was the only thing Rafael could even ask, his mind was now swimming with questions, his amazement was focused but oh so aroused. He'd never seen some thing like this before, nor had Loriean, he folded his hands on to his lap Prometheus replied just as he began walking back and forth as if she was pacing, her voice now filled with a deductive tone.

“I don't know, but perhaps this facility is advanced enough to block any sensor scans from long ranges, or it could be and this is more likely that the stars interference blurred if you will enough feed back that I didn't catch it?”

Rafael let out a sigh, before he could ask anything else; the ships sensor warning reviver started to sound, the sensor globe zoomed out and displayed another ship that had jumped in to normal space via hyper space. It was of course the Irden, the moment of surprise wavered from Rafael's mind, they had been expected all along. Quickly he turned his gaze over to the holo-emitter, expecting fully someone researcher named Eumiron-K-, by the way his name was spelled it had to be a mantoid, they're last “names “ were absurdly long and thus shortened to initials.

The emitter flashed to life, and in an instant, a rather large, and imposing mantoid (nick named land shrimp) with two pairs of arms, one sporting rather powerful and intimidating claws that would if used in aggression remove the need of fire arms if it weren't for their lack of range from these people. The others were more “normal” appendages, with thin clasping fingers that could maneuver rather well.

Eumrion, with his black segmented and plated body clicked his mandibles a few time and said with a slightly accented bu casual tone.

“Ah, Its good to see you captain Franklin, I'm doctor Eumrion -K-.. Thank you for scouting this system in a rough sense before we arrived. It would be ashamed if it were inaccessible, I should say we didn't come here out of desire... yes.. desire to linger.. about in a star system.”

Rafael's lips curled up in to a grin, he drummed his digits against the armrests of his chair before clasping it and replying as he shifted.

“I know that now, the report said possible archeological sites, nothing more other than bio-me curiosities, but upon arriving we fo-

Emurion interjected, he let out a soft hiss that equated to a sigh in human body/acoustic language. He waved a claw and fingered arm in a mantoids usual animated style.

“Yes, we knew- Well we knew there was something here, I must assure you star command with the urging of the scientific community officials responsible for what you know as project Tempest. Kept you and your crew in the dark...sss.. It.. was imperative after all that is set and done, that these sorts of sites are kept as discrete as possible.

Before you ask, why are they important? I'll tell you ssss. A-lot of our Technological progress has been assisted, by certain things we've found on our own worlds, I cant say much more than that, but I can say this is part of the same concept. Until we investigate we cant be for certain if they were left by the same people who settled oh so far away on our homeworlds..”

Rafael was astounded, he didn't know much about Tempest, nor beyond what he learned in school about fore-runner ruins, but it came together a bit and now he indeed knew why this was important. The vast amounts of Terran technology, its very nature endowing it with abilities beyond wonder, D cores, De-syc shields, Superlume processors ,AI , and consumer products.. Hyper space indeed, while they may have been fashioned by Terrans were inspired or outright discovered in ruins like these. This complicated things.

Science never rests!

After Emurion had his conversation with Rafael , he turned on the smaller CIC of the research ship, his eyes, with their wide arc of movement focused toward the hologlobe sensor readouts. The Irden was a rather large ship but with automation it had no more than one hundred crew-members from both private universities, institutes, companies and state sanctioned groups. Emurion walked forth, his feet tapping against the metal utilitarian floor.

“Well, well, we have two places to choose from, that star I think its too good to pass up. We'll need to send a team to explore the planet too sss. I think it should be sssssimple..”

Irden appearing, as one would guess a dragon, its form simulated by the careful manipulation of hardlight and nanofog. The AI replied smoke billowing out of its muzzle and voice rumbling with bass.

“Not a problem , my sensors cant penetrate too much of the stars surface or those monoliths as they normally would, and the planet is a bit foggy as well. I'll get some shuttles loaded.”

The dragon, with inherently real smoke turned around, he was quadrupedal, his black scales seemingly perfect segmented like an armor mail around his body, his wings curled up behind him and long tail rested on the floor. Of course this was just the form the AI had chosen to appear, and it had a preference to Ixcumanian culture.

“Ah well, go-ahead, I think we'll need to spend time on this, patience is a virtue!”

Emurion said, he let out a few clicks and crackles then a chuckle his mandibles snapping. The ship was not just staffed by Terran;s but other GESO members as well as other interested parties had a hand in this , it was surely going to be an interesting ride.

On a planet far away from the one found by the Terran Alliance, an artificial terrestrial planet the size of a larger gas-giant with 7 more or less equidistant moons, there was a comparatively small nation, in which 3 species thusfar did their best (and often worst) efforts to cohabitate.

It was nighttime in the underverse, and the team of Bespiir (barn-owl people) and Joviti (hermaphrodite elf-catgirls) archaeologists still had no idea how to open this 'portal to heaven' that had been found outside of the aptly named Valley of Swords, with the dozens of perfectly preserved sword-like skyscraper temples, most of which loomed in midair, as if they were infinitely intellectual gods in silent observation. In the darkness of night, their blue clusters of lights giving a starlight-effect to the now darkened terrain of the inner sphere.

http://thejesterscorner.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/halo-4-wallpaper-concept-art.jpeg

Away from the dug-out pits, the up-stood 'ring-portal to heaven' (along with its cartouche covering segments, moved to along the edge of the camp, on low tables), and the southeast entrance to the Valley of Swords, the archeology camps were winding down for the night. Dinner was being cooked (something we will call 'the local spaghetti' ), and in one camp, arguments were brewing over the function and purpose of not only the ring-portal, but the flying sword temples, as well as the rest of the various sorts of Forerunner temples, spire-monoliths, and other artifacts.

The Yalawin (huragok) had floated away to attempt to continue the excavation, as they were prone to lose themselves in their work.

"But Why are they there ? for the idle whimsy of the gods !? " Kyliss said, waving hir hand in the direction of outside for emphasis. Kyliss was a young up-start Shi're (a sub-race of Joviti) who desperately wanted to get hir theories published and 'make it big' in the world of archeology and the like.... Along with hopes of radically changing imperial union society for the better, since the Joviti were unspoken second-class citizens.

Nentius, an older Bespiir who had spent the majority of the day sipping on alcoholic soda (because on this world, every carbonated drink was alcoholic), laid his head on the table "Not so loud please, also, i don't care. It is, what it is, and i doubt even the gods could change it. The Ministry tells me to finance and oversee this little pet project of yours that - "

"Pet! Project! ?" Kyliss shrieked out, hir mouth agape and eyes wide in shock. Nentius winced and ruffled his feathers, and covered his head with a wing. S/he had always suspected that they were humoring hir all along, but it was heart-wrenching all the same, to well-and-truly KNOW, that they didn't take hir seriously. "We could be on the bleeding edge of the greatest discovery since the invention of Fire !" s/he said, winding up to work herself into a rant.

Nentius now had to back-pedal (or try to), even though he, along with the Ministry financial council, was in doubt as to the value of this expedition of trying to uncover the secrets of the temples. "I meant that in quotations, because thats what the ministry council said." he murmured, to no real avail at calming hir down.

Kyliss slowly bent down at the waist to look at the sitting Bespiir, a look of disgusting horror and surprise splattered across hir face "Can you be any more vague and yellow-bellied ?" shi said, hir words dripping with venomous insulting. Nentius made an ~Om~ sound, trying to form an answer out of his drunk-addled brain, but all that did was confirm to Kyliss that he was the Ministry's managing yes-bird. S/he heel-pivot turned and stalked away to most likely be pouty for the rest of the night, hir tail angrily writhing about in hir fast-march wake.

Halfway to hir tent, a pair of yalawin made a flanged sort of 'wah !' excited sound at Kyliss, and wiggle-pointed to the dug-out pits. Walking towards the 2 yalawin, they gently took hir hands and lead hir to one of the deeper pits, with a tarp roof over it, where the others had uncovered a second covering-cartouche, of something about the size of a small podium, or chair.

S/he touched one of the yalawin on the nose, and getting its attention in turn "I want you to go get more people." she said, gesturing in an away-and-come-back motion with her hands. The pair of yalawin who brought hir here did so, drifting out of the dugout pits and back towards camp.

It may have to wait until the daybreak of tomorrow, but her anger of about 10 minutes ago was now replaced with intense curiosity as to what the podium-object was.

Undocumented Planet P3X-439, Augesh 3 2630 SFY

Waves of grass washed back and forth as the away team trudged through the grass that was almost as tall as the six Pokosians walking through it. The day side of this planet was not too different from Pokos. The air was crisp and clean, with no sign of the industries that a populated planet could produce. It was something that was to be awed and cherished. The ground squelched as the away teams talons sunk into the soft soil of the field. The breeze would kick up from time to time and make the ever waving grass move just a little bit more, making it a look as though it was a stormy sea rather than a field of tall grass. Mountains loomed in the distance, their dark purple hue adding to their impressive heights, capped with snowy helmets which made them look like bishops of the ‘Stain religion. As another hard gust of wind billowed through the field, Captain Tshweet ran his fingers through the feathers on his head, flicking off the sweat that had been accumulating on his skin and taking one last look at his tricorder before sighing to himself with a click of his beak. His crew had been on a deep space survey of this sector for a month. Not that he had not relished his first true command, but he was a military officer first and foremost. After spending over a hundred years in the Great Civil War fighting Augments and that ilk he had spent another three in the 13th Dannaversian War fighting that enemy. Survey duty just did not carry the same amount of excitement and adventure. It was all he could do to not go crazy sometimes when he read over the morning reports when his duty shift started in the morning.

The rest of the away team stopped and began doing things as well. One officer disappeared into the tree line that was several meters distant which could only mean that he was taking care of some very personal business. Three began a very animated conversation about a series of scans that had been taken earlier in the day at a river that had some algae that had some promising medicinal properties. One other officer was drinking deeply from her canteen, careful to not drink too much and saving some for later.

“Captain, you think we should head back the ship?” One of the officers asked, the one who had disappeared into the trees as he returned.

Tshweet took some time to consider the options. The away team had been out since daybreak and had covered a total of sixteen kilometers of ground and had taken a total of sixty samples, some of which were rather sizeable. The other survey teams, a total of three, had covered similar routes and distances. That meant that this valley had been rather decently covered, a total of fifty or sixty square kilometers covered. A good figure for a hard days work.

“Yes, we should probably head back. The day has been fruitful and to be honest. I am ready for a hot meal and to get moving on. Command wants us to survey six other systems by the end of the month and we will not meet the quota if we spend all of our time here” Tshweet said, in reply but almost to himself.

Captain Tshweet pulled out his communicator and began to fiddle with controls until he was able to dial in his ship.

“Servant of Wisdom, this is Captain Tshweet. Come in” Tshweet talked into the communicator.

There was a brief moment where there was static over the line before the rough sound of the Chief engineer, who was currently in charge of the ship responded.

“We haven’t gone anywhere Cap, we are still sitting in this field twiddling our thumbs. Your team is the last one out. Second team came back early, damn idiot T’sehl fell and broke a wing. Got him in the medical bay and the doctor is looking after him. Ship is all set to take off on your order. Do you want to walk it or do you want us to use the transporters?” The engineer said in a gruff and matter of fact voice.

“No, we will walk it. No use to drain our energy supplies on using the transporter. We will head back now. Get us ready for launch and we will move on to our next target” Tshweet responded with what could only be described as a sigh of resignation.

The Captain of the party waved at the others and pointed towards the direction that the ship had been parked, a few kilometers away in a field just barely big enough to fit the starship. The ship was not anything special. A Servant class Deep Space Exploration Cruiser (DSEC). It was an upgraded model of the Servant class which was originally designated a commerce raider. A warship designed and built during the Dannaversian War as a way for the Commonwealth to aid the allies in their attempt to put a stranglehold on the enemy. Now every one of those commerce raiders that survived were either refitted for as a DSEC or sold at auction. They were very sturdy and built to take a beating, but outfitted with very fast sublight engines and warp engines that could match some of the larger ships in the Commonwealth fleet. Thoughts about the war drifted in and out of the Captains mind as he and his away team walked back to the ship. The constant space battles, the land battles that would never end, sieges that went on for months.

The forest smelt of fresh growing things, a very earthy smell that filling the nostrils with sweet and warm aromas. A great change from the last planet that had been surveyed. That planet had been a desert. Not a single visible plant for thousands of kilometers. This one was covered in trees and wildlife. The team came to a small stream that they had forded on their way out from the ship in the morning. The bubbling water sung under the canopy of the forest they were walking through. The ship could be seen not too far away through the trees. The sheet grey of the hull standing out from the greens and browns of the planet. Bright white and yellow markings indicated airlocks and thrusters and the various minutia that were located on the outside of a ship’s hull. Tshweek hopped over the small stream, using his wings slightly to give him a little bit more lift to his hop to clear the creek. The water splashed slightly on the edge of the creek as his rear talon on his foot did not make it completely across. The other members of the away team did likewise, some to varying degrees of success. Once the entire team was across the Captain grunted in approval and marched up the short slope out of the little cut that the creek made in the soft earth and pushed the last little bit to the ship where with little ceremony the away team entered the airlock on the lower half of the ship and began to stow the samples and gear that they had taken with them.

The Captain walked up to the bridge of the ship where the chief engineer was hovering over a console that indicated thrust and engine status. The hum of the engines could be heard through the bones of the ship as the atmospheric thrusters ignited and pushed the ship slowly and clumbisily at first, then with gaining speed up and over the trees and into the clouds, leaving scorch marks on the ground where the engines had burned the soil and grass growing on it. The Captain took a seat in the Command Perch and began to go over the readouts for the ships systems as the main viewer showed that the Servant of Wisdom broke through the last vestiges of atmosphere and was now entering cold space.

“Science, what do the long range scans have on our next system?’ Captain Tshweek chirped, hoping for something remotely interesting.

There was a pause before the response as the officer worked her hands over the console in front of her in a flurry.

“Several planets, one orbital construct of some sort. The long range scans are inconclusive” The officer responded.

“Sounds fun. Allright then, set course for system P30-767. Warp six”

The order was replied with the sounds of other officers working at their consoles and the accompanying sounds of the main engines spooling up and getting ready for a jump and with a definite flash of light the PCS Servant of Wisdom was gone, flying at faster than light speed towards the next system on the list of systems that were to be catalogued and explored. Several hours later the Servant of Wisdom dropped out of warp near the pole of one of the planets in the system, alarms blaring as the sensors were going wild with fresh information.

“Sir, other starships detected, not to mention that huge construct, it reads as ancient. Some of the elements are of Huan design!” The sensor officer shouted.

“Battle Stations! Helm, bring us deeper into the polar region, let the magnetic field of he planet hide us until we have a handle on this situation!” The Captain shouted.

The lighting on the ship went red and flashing and crew were rushing about to get the ship ready for whatever could happen. Things were about to get much more interesting and Captain Tshweet could not be happier. He was now in his element.

Never A dull moment

The relatively routine noises that returned to dominate the atmosphere of the Prometheus’s CIC; were short lived, for just as Rafael and his first officer settled back in to their chairs and the crew returned idly to its work, the FTL and sensor warning receiver, began to beep and beep. Yet it only did so for a second, in that second Rafael and everyone else became once more vigilant in that semi startled fashion that so often accomplished a sudden signal of possible trouble. Before Rafael opened his mouth the avatar of the Prometheus cut him off, the tone was more or less plain.

“ I detected a momentary spike on FTL scanners, I don't know what that was yet, if any thing. It could have been a sensor echo.”

Rafael placed those hands of his on the arm-rests of the chair and let out a soft huff. He replied after mulling over a few things stating as he looked back up to the avatar.

“Lets hope it was.. Just a sensor echo; keep scanners on full, and deploy a few Delta drones. Whats the status of the Ireden and its teams?”

The Avatar replied linking up to the Ireden, who’s slender angled form with those cobalt blue trails of shimmering particles and bulging space pushing it from behind . Prometheus waved a hand nonchalantly leaning against a sensor console again; there was nothing much to report.

“They're moving in to orbit now, and have scanned the surface with drones and orbital sensors via link, so far; nothing else of note other than they expect to be planet side within the hour.

Well on the bright side, we still haven't roused any vagabonds eh?”

Leroian was quiet about the whole thing, he didn't find much use in speculating at the moment; in his mind there was no use in this context to play a game of what if, if some incident were to happen then they would have to wait. Rafael could only reply as he glanced to Prometheus once more and smirked sarcastically.

“Good idea, jinx us why don't you?”

She replied back with a shake of her head and a light chuckle.

“You humans and your luck, I've got pretty damn good probability forecasting , even if its not omnipotent its damn good..”

Rafael always wondered how an AI could be so arrogant, but then he remembered they were the products and influenced there of , of the Terrans own minds. Yet the stories of old about how computers and AI's were so cold where just fiction, after all and he quite enjoyed talking to them; he replied with snark.

“If its that good, why not consider fortune telling for less advanced races? You'd make a fortune.”

Prometheus shot back with a slight laugh right as her avatar turned to face the wide expanse of shimmering white and blue before them on the view screen.

“What would an AI do with money.. You don't expect us to run after the almighty dollar right?”
Rafael shook his head, she shrugged as Leroian chimed in with his bass-atone voice.

“Heh, AI's are just as fallible as us; that aside we just have different ethos pertaining to greed.”

GSV Irden, in orbit of Nurian III

The vast cargo spaces and intricately complex labs of the smooth paneled and decorated Irden a refit of the general hulls Olympia class vessel, were now abuzz with drones and personnel loading up shuttle craft and drones and preparing their vastly advanced facilities and systems for the task at hand. Emurion, that mantoid whom just like the depiction of his fellow manntoids was a bit eccentric to most conventions, had made his way in to the launch bay of the Irden; the indecent glow of the cargo and shuttle bay lights beat down upon a scene of ordered chaos … In a way as drones and personnel loaded supplies on to specialized Aquila C transport shuttles, before embarking. The slender and yet smooth shape of the plane like shuttle with the obvious flair of Terran design being its angled symmetrical forms came in to Emurions view.

He stood there inside of his rather foreboding and form covered by an Exo suit that complete with all the specialized modules that a scientist would need, so for a second he took in the scene; mantoids never did like to let their mind wander in to stray thoughts and had to be busy, it was almost a neigh narcissism that was universal. With this being so, Emurion quickly focused his mind back to his work, almost jumping in to act as he rushed forth in to the shuttle.

“Ahh , yes.. its good to get underway, how is team two heading for the solar artifact Ireden?”

The Dragonic avatar of the ship replied just as Emurion slid in to the cabin of the Aquila passed two other people who merely glanced up at his hulking form.

“They'll be ready to disembark shortly Emurion”

Emurion relished that news, his mandibles clicked making their iconic loud snaps, he sat down and settled in.

“Good, good. I expect we'll have a lot of work to do here, it will be quite gratifying to get some claw on experience on this world.”

The Second team, was lead by Doctor Merriam Santos, a tall woman, with a slender curved form hiding the betraying strength of her dedicated mind; she held two doctorates, at least two was common amongst most Terran’s though. It was often more these days; but Merriam was an expert of Xeno-technolgy, Anthropology, and field mechanics. As she brushed her semi short blonde hair out of the way and connected with a seamless and almost inaudible snap her Exo helmet on to her suit ; her mind tampering her excitement in her hear logically began speculating on what she'd find.

“We ready to go Paliron?”

She spoke in that subtle Tyian accent of hers in an upbeat tone. She looked over to Paliron, who happened to be an one of those quirky Terran AI's that shared the feature of being in a Nano-photon body yet indistinguishable in all but scan readings to a Terran. Palrion glanced up, he placed his hands behind him and smiled quaintly.

“Yeah, I hope we'll find something over there; not that I care about wasting time after all, but a bit of excitement might be nice.”

Miriam shook her head as he turned with Paliron behind her to embark on the Aquila. She said half seriously just as she took a seat at the head of the craft.

“You want excitement, on ominous old alien ruins? Are you sure?”.

Palrion shrugged, he didn't mean it that way but as he thought of it; he'd rather have at least something of note to see there.

“We'll see”

He grinned. In the mean while the Prometheus had opened those port and starboard bays, the nano motors quickly and silently parted the visually seamless door apart to the destroyers bays. As that happen Delta drones, again with those slender winged and angled forms and quite large insides bolted out; at least six, with three on each side banked and turned throttled up their phase engines pushing them at unimaginable speeds. At this point just as the Terran Designed GRF destroyer brought to bare its drones to augment its ship born sensor array; that probed the chaotic and random crevices of space time and hyperspace itself, as the arc of the scan continued and that invisible spherical shell of the 29th century's equivalent of sensory drifted toward the site of that blip , the AI couldn't make heads or tails of things; even as she predicted the vector of what ever might have dropped in there seemed to be almost haze like disruption on data returns. This could of course be explained by many factors; the least Prometheus was able to ascertain was that the planet itself, and the construct in and around the star that they were now drifting so fluidly and indifferently in front of, was the source of what ever was causing this.

Yet, even so the other ship that had entered had been clever, it would take either a while or another action for Prometheus to get a full Handel of what or who was there. All this could have been built to hide something, there was something obviously here.

"What's the ETA on the target?"

"Uh...that would be approximately...fifteen minutes. Provided we can maintain our current engine output."

"Excellent."

The interior of the vessel was spartan and pragmatic. Shades of black and grey barely visible with the utter lack of light. Exposed pipes and wiring extended from openings in the metallic drab walls. The operations center of the ship itself was almost wholly unrecognizable. It was unlike the CICs of any other ship, lacking the usual three dimensional maps and huge display screens. Instead, all visual information was transmitted through heat displays. Skitaks skittered and scampered dizzily through the small central room, a hive of sorts.

"Sir, our long range scanners indicate that there are several other ships at the target."

"How many?"

"I can't distinguish, er...three to five maybe."

"Prepare all weapons, we don't want to be caught in a cross fire."

"Safeties off, weapons hot!"

The captain, an older Skitak by the name of KeKeeKet, stood in the center of the chamber. He was placed in charge of this research operation to investigate ancient ruins. The mission was to be a precursor to a later larger investigation and scientific excavation.

"Disengaging warp...now!"

The ship shuddered, a screeching high pitched humming echoed through the interior before suddenly ceasing. It was replaced by an overwhelming silence, minus the never ending drone of the engines. The heat displays of the operation center sprang to life, showing solar maps, system reports and engine readings.

"The ships present are not in combat. Should I hail them?"

"No, no no. Just get us to the site so we can scan it and get out of here."

"Aye, captain."

Telos IV Colony - United Galactic Starfleet's 13th Fleet commanded by Rear Admiral James Hood aboard the Battlestar BSG-09 Ekaterinberg

The United Galactic Starfleet, or UGSF, was enjoying a peaceful day around the currently colonized systems. "This is Grand Admiral Howard Adama to Rear Admiral James Hood, The President has asked for you and your fleet to explore a region five lightyears from Telos." a voice crackled through a holo-communicator on the bridge. "Thanks for the heads up sir. I'll order my crews to embark in zero-five minutes." With a salute, Rear Admiral James hood closes the link with his superior officer, and orders the embarkation of a couple ships in the fleet, including the Battlestar Ekaterinberg and the hammerhead cruisers Liberator and Harbinger, as well as several Aurek Tactical Fighters, Viper Mk III fighters, and B-wing bombers in the Ekaterinberg's hangar bays. Within five minutes, the whole ensemble of ships was away and ready for an FTL jump. "Hyperdrive ready sir, can jump at any time." the engineer on the Ekaterinberg stated. "Jump." Rear Admiral Hood orders. Suddenly, the fleet enters hyperspace, moving to their destination.

Nurian III System

The fleet leaves hyperspace, finding the target system currently inhabited by another extraterrestrial empire. While it was unknown what language they spoke, Rear Admiral Hood didn't want to make trouble. He immediately hails the closest ship in the system, which was coincidentially the GSV Irden. "This is Rear Admiral James Hood of the UGSF, What a nice surprise to find another empire in the galaxy. I apologize for any hostility I may have shown, and extend a hand of friendship to your people."

PCS Servant of Wisdom, Bridge,
Augesh 3 2630 SFY

The bridge of the commerce raider cum deep space exploration vessel was very quiet, with the exception of the beeps and hums that emanated from the consoles and equipment that was inherently on any starship command center. Captain Tshweet stared deeply into veiwscreen and the dark stars beyond. The planet that the PCS Servant of Wisdom was hiding above was glowing brightly just on the lower edge of the screen. The massive construct in orbit was front and center. The object was why they were there. It must of taken a massive undertaking to make it, the sheer materials that were contained were far more advanced and far more complex than the simple layered duranium hull that covered the framework of the Servant of Wisdom. The thoughts that crossed his mind were one that would cross any starship commander at a time like this. Usually the same kinds of questions that a good journalist would have. Who?What? When?Where?and Why? All questions that were now focused on the floating construct that was now filling the main veiwscreen.

“Sensors, what are you picking up off of the construct?” Tshweet said as he looked over at his science officer.

The science officer looked slightly upset at the console in front of her. Followed by a sigh, the response came clear and concise.

“Sir, our passive scanners can barely scratch the surface. I am picking up Duranium, Steel, Iron, and a handful of elements that the computer can’t recognize. Design elements and structure are similar to those on Pokos, Kodos, and Shreekase. This structure though does not seem to be one hundred percent similar, but there are some matches” The science office reported.

All of the planets that the Poksoan Commonwealth controlled had a series of ancient ruins all across their surfaces. Tshweet did not know if it was by coincidence or planned that it had happened. Pokosian archeologists had determined that the Huan civilization had spent a long time on Pokos, but there was limited or no evidence showing something akin to the beginning of civilization like with Pokosians. All that is known that some thousands of years before the founding of the great city they either died out or left, leaving their constructions all across the planet. When Plaktea arrived in orbit of Pokos, that too was covered in Huan constructs. Either way the Pokosian people have been fascinated by these structures and it was fortuitous that Tshweet would come across one. Would the Commonwealth want him to claim it for his people or would they want him to find a way to study it before the unknown peoples could study it and steal its secrets.

“If we bring the main sensor array online could we possibly get better scans?” Tshweet inquired.

“Yes. Better scans, but everyone in the system will be able to find us. An active ping that would draw attention to us in a second” The science officer responded, gently folding her hands to her chest, making her wings fold back slightly.

Before the Captain could respond with more questions the weapons officer spoke in his clear, baritone voice, a rare ability for a avian.

“Sir, we do have a compliment of sensor decoys. We used them quite a lot to avoid capture during the war. Dan and Boolean ships chasing us down after we raided some shipping could be pretty bad so we would launch two or three sensor decoys and almost every time we got away without even having to fire a shot at our pursuers” The weapons officer added to the conversation.

“That actually sounds like a really good idea. While those sensor drones have those aliens trying to pinpoint our location and we could sneak to the construct, land, get our samples and go before they can figure out what happened” The helm officer agreed.

The plan was sound. This way, the aliens would be busy tracking multiple targets around the system and the construct and they would not be able to pinpoint exactly what they were doing and where the Servant of Wisdom was going. Tshweet did not want to get embroiled into some sort of diplomatic mess. As much as it would be a benefit to the Commonwealth to make more connections, it was not Tshweets strong suit. He was a explorer first, and a warrior second, sometimes those two roles were interchangeable.

“That is the plan then. Prepare three sensor decoys” Tshweet turned to look at the helm officer with a deep avian eye “Helm, set course for the construct, maximum impulse”

The bridge was full of acknowledgments as the orders were being followed. Officers all across the bridge were completing the tasks set for them and getting ready for the maneuver that would hopefully get them in a position to complete their mission without having to deal with any of the aliens that were now hovering around the construct ahead. The ship began to rotate slightly to get itself on the right trajectory, the RCS thrusters straining against the gravity of the planet since the ship was deeper in the gravity well than it was usually accustomed. A small hatch on the lower hull slowly came open to reveal a small bay inside. The inside of the bay was full of small devices no bigger than a groundside personal transport. The engines of three of the small drum shaped pods began to glow and their running lights came on in a pop of power. The main engines of the Servant of Wisdom began to glow bright red as well as the engines began to power up for a powerful burst of speed.

“Status” Captain Tshweet stated over the sound of engines that were whining loudly as they were being held back from releasing their thrust.

“Three pods are prepared and ready to launch” The Weapons officer reported.

“We have max thrust available, full impulse on your mark” The helm officer added.

“Okay then, launch the decoys, helm, full impulse” The Captain ordered with strong conviction.

The three pods dropped from the hatch and then each ones engines flared brightly and launched them in three different directions, each one making all of the noises a ship the same size of the Servant of Wisdom would make if it were blasting by in a hurry. The bay doors closed tight with a hiss and then the engines of the Servant of Wisdom flashed brightly as well and launched the ship forward in a huge burst of speed directly towards the construct.

GRV Prometheus DDG-182

Prometheus’s expression was quite plain, the avatar leaned back on a console, the vast and intricate mind that it was representing took in the wide and quite monumental array of data from the destroyers scanners and the subsequently deployed drones. It was still a bit foggy for the ship, but as that mind worked and instant after instant ticked by; those superluminal circuits so important to the operation of her mind and the ship worked through the innumerable amount of information, Rafael kept his eyes on the sensor globe his hands firmly upon the armrests of his chair, it had hardly been a nano second before that globe before him, once shimmering and filled static began to show a better picture of things.

“I've never seen disturbances on these levels, I'm cutting through some of it we should be able to tell at least in a rudimentary way if somethings out there..”

Prometheus said, her voice was calm, she leaned forward a bit now facing toward the console placing her hands upon its gray metallic surface her fingers clasping on to it just shy of the holo console's key pad. Before Rafael could respond, Prometheus suddenly and surprisingly said as she looked back at the captain.

“I think I see some thing, well its still hard to get a clear picture. Wait, I definitely see a contact, make that several.. Extrapolating for inconsistent movement patterns, mass and density differences, projected courses and power output....

Stand by..”

Rafael shifted in his chair, he sat up and glued his eyes to the sensor globe the tension was building on the destroyer. What ever was going on, he didn't like it. Nor did anyone else, this was a tricky and unpredictable situation; for at any moment who or what they seem to be detecting could turn out to be a very real threat. Rafael took his gaze off the sensor globe and looked at Prometheus eagerly awaiting a reply; and not a second later did the AI speak, the sensor globe focusing and zooming in toward one ghostly silhouettes of what appeared to be a ship cloaked in a fuzzy haze of what seemed like an ethereal fog, and three other objects clouded just as thoroughly.

“Clever, really clever.. That's a ship all-right, the problem is these distortions are making it so bloody hard to tell what's what.

What we're seeing is only an after image though, that energy signature and that mass spectral analysis is conclusive with a ship..”

Rafael glanced to his first officer who merely looked back with a glance that bore no visible marks of one who was discernibly concerned. Rafael let out a sigh, and said in a tone that had a measure of urgency and command in it.

“Go to Secure stations, load missile tubes and power weapons but don't open our gun ports.. yet. Prommie, I hope you're not seeing things; because if that’s some sort of flying Dutchman ..”

Prometheus looked at Rafael with a light glare then shook her head as she straightened her position up.

“Captain, please. I may be a smart ass and play pranks on this fine crew from time to time; but this is not one of those situations. That and ghosts don't exist..”

Rafael smirked a bit, his facade of a collective calm leader was almost betrayed by his own eyes bearing the sign of worry. Normal for any officer in the service in these situations, they dealt with unknowns but they didn't like those unknowns.

“You said after image, and what are those three other objects Prommie?”

The AI replied quite briskly, just as the ship and crew readied itself to face what ever may come, be it the specter of battle or a wonder.

“The dilation created by these distortions both in hyperspace and in normal space is giving us lag time, sort of like our Pigeon hole field generators.. But combined with a saturation of local space with well the spatial equivalent of static.

You can see the fabric of space time being subjected to deliberate distortion.. Its sort of like throwing a lot of rocks into a lake at different spots brewing the water up with disturbances.

Add to this the dilation caused by whatever is disrupting hyper space and you get this. The other three contacts... I can't tell, they may be shuttles or they may be missiles..

If they were missiles we'd be having a different conversation though. They disappeared likely due to vectoring off somewhere, If I can adapt to the distortion fields I may be able to regain full sensor capabilities. I projected where our mystery ship could have gone but its nothing definite..”

Rafael didn't like the news he was getting, they were in some sort of distortion field now, half blind with an unknown ship that could be any place, possibly even talking them. As advanced as the Terran's were it was not to the point where they could simply wave away problems, not in the least because an object that could be a part of the very source of their technology was ironically in their way. This same field would start to effect any ship that crossed into its sphere or effect, It was like some veil of ethereal fog had been cast upon the ships as the last stop before these ruins ; oh so tempting and visible used its caprice to imperil the courageous crews and lead them to their untimely demise. Of course seeming like something and being like something was completely different.

Rafael was quick to make a decision, he sunk into his chair glancing to Prometheus and then back to the sensor globe.

“Take us in to the possible locale, how long do you think it'll take until you're able to adapt?”

Prometheus shrugged, she said in a nonchalant tone that would in any other circumstance be considered slightly sarcastic.

“I've gotta apply scientific method here, observation and then application.. I don't think it should take too long, if its precursor tech I should have no problem..-”

Prometheus was cut off, and quickly patched through a message coming from the Irden. The quadrupedal dragon that the AI of that ship had so chosen to represent it appeared in an instant. Without giving Rafael time to question him about the matter they were being contacted for the avatar with its low bass-atone inflexion and rumbling voice answered the question.

“Captain, I've picked up three ships, one of them disappeared into the distortion field, the other two are still outside of it. We've been contacted by one of them, we're not equipped to fight captain Franklin.. They've hailed us I'll patch them through...”

Rafael had little time to even react, and almost as if by natural instinct suppressed his slight bewilderment about the situation; hiding it behind his professional demeanor. He gave gentle nod to the admiral replying calmly and professionally.

-”Well, I'm glad you contacted us, few people are peaceful, you're a bit fortunate we don't shoot first. My name is Captain Rafael Franklin.. Of the Galactic Reaction Vessel Prometheus, the Idren patched you through to us Admiral , as I am the ranking officer in the system.

I have to admit we're a bit curious to see others out here, its quite far nearly at edge of the milk ways periphery, most expedition's out this far find little or not polities or entities at all.. We represent the Galactic Economic and Security organization and the United Terran Alliance..

We wouldn't call ourselves an empire per-say but a republic; that said I believe this is a first contact between our peoples and as such I'd like to offer an official greeting from the Terran Alliance and GESO, I'd also like to extend an offer to meet with you Admiral“-

Rafael of course was being polite, and while he did mean everything he said he was also curious and a bit suspicious. As all captains would be with sudden drop ins in such a remote system containing such valuable artifacts. For now though, he let his suspicion remain hidden under his thoughtful veneer , he glanced subtly at Prometheus who was still leaning albeit in a more lax manner against a console. She looked back and nonchalantly shrugged, by that time several more drones and additionally one or two SAD’s had been teleported or otherwise launched from the destroyer, these winged and slender craft knifed quickly yet subtly through space, the blaring light emanating from that stellar furnace casting down upon their comparatively feeble forms.

A trip, to that big thing near that ball of blue fire!.

Miriam and Paliron had long settled in the small yet versatile Aquila shuttle that was to ferry them to that mysterious yet ominous construct nestled and harnessed against that furious ball of stellar matter as if it were emulating the great figure and godlike strength of atlas himself. Miriam glanced around the mid sized cabin eyes looking over Paliron now and again , who was amusing himself with various gag reels in his own mind. Miriam had always thought the photoform being to be quite odd; but then most AI’s were odd to a human, what goes on in their post singularity minds was far beyond the understanding of her and most Terrans.

“These distortions are really brewing this up, what do you think we’ll find in there?”

Miriam queried looking directly to Paliron, who looked over obviously half confused as a result of his split concentration. Of course he and other AI’s could choose not to get distracted but even the most powerful AI’s need peace and quiet.

“Uhh wha? Oh.. Well I dunno..Knowing the verse we could be walking in to be someone's lunch.”

Miriam rolled her eyes, she shook her head waving a hand in dismissal toward the photoform. She sarcastically replied in a quip.

“You make some of the worst pessimist look optimistic.. I wonder why you don’t have many friends..Though if we’re all doomed why does it matter?”

Paliron just shrugged apathetically; he was just going by whatever pattern he could ascertain in his ordered mind about the universe. He considered for a moment replying back in what could be described as a “Smart ass” answer utilizing his expert probability forecasting skills. But merely decided to give a slightly less fresh question.

“Would you like to know the odds?”

His lips curled up in a sly and sarcastic grin, Miriam just let out a sigh muttering just audibly enough for the two marines and any others in the cabin to barely hear.

“What a Sadomasochist you are.. Pining to push up the daisies..”

James Hood listens to everything the admiral had to say. "Will do. I'll order a clear landing spot in the Ekaterinberg's hangar for your arrival. See you soon, Admiral." Hood then closes the comm link and orders the preparation for their arrival. Just then the navigator reports something. "Sir, we seem to have entered a distortion field." The engineer then reports on something. "Sir, the hyperdrive is offline!" James Hood orders the engines to full stop. As the navigator throttles down, the massive battlestar comes to a stop. The two Hammerhead cruisers in formation follow suit, coming to a stop as well. "Seems we're stuck here for a while." James Hood said to himself.

The two Yalawin had gathered the rest of the archeology team, and soon enough, they brought in torches and tools. Very delicately, they pried away the stone coverings to reveal.....Some sort of low podium. It was octagonal in shape, with banks of slats, and a large round reddish dome in the center. The banks of slats each had a separate symbol, inset into the slats center. The bottom of the pedestal-like podium had an undercut ridge, as if it fitted into some sort of octagonal shaped slot.

Ruchira, a Joviti assistant, idly posited that since it was buried outside the Valley of Swords, that perhaps there was a corresponding place within the Temple of the Skyward Sword for the ring and the pedestal to be fitted into. Some agreed, and others disagreed, but the hike to the Temple of the Skyward Sword, to confirm whether or not there were places to re-integrate the ring and the podium, would have to wait until tomorrow.

For now, they would gather up the panels of the podium cartouche, tag them, and set them aside for in the morning, and drag the podium-pedestal out from its former grave, back to the surface, next to the massive Ring. Both would be adjacent to the archeology camp, before it was necessary for sleep to be had.
