The Union of Independent Republics and The Islamic State of Randlia welcome to the thread!

Ontorisa, that's fine, take your time!

Saints Federation engage them at your discretion, I will occasionally RP an attack by the mutants but in general they're pretty likely to attack your forces at any time. On the surface you're far more likely to run into them than you are a survivor.

Toishima, they're not actually, although I would love to bring in something like the Dark Ones later on, these are actually based loosely off of a monster seen in the books which basically stalked Artyom like the weeping angels from Doctor Who, never moving while he looked at them until they were absolutely sure he couldn't kill them all. So they started moving in for the kill before Artyom ran into a house. I thought it was cool. Meanwhile Dark Ones are a bit unfair as a welcoming party since pretty much everyone looses their mind and dies.

The wiki is still a really good guide into understanding most of the creatures and how they work.
I think I will still bring in dark one like beings soon, plus there will definitely be other paranormal phenomenon in the form of anomalies and such. So you're pretty well covered with the wiki. It's just some of the things from the book are really interesting so I've put them in here at times.

I may be a bit late to the game but if you are still taking countries Garganta de la Tierra is up for it.
(also big fan of the Metro games, needing to read the books as of yet)

Nation name: Garganta de la Tierra
National Leader: Commander George Logan
National Ideology (Communism, Fascism etc): Right-wing Isolationist Dictatorship
Quick summary of your nation: Large Militaristic Nation driven by its Paranoia. All parts o the government are controlled by the military with a Benevolent Dictator for life in charge of everything. While having a largely violent reputation with its neighbors Garganta de la Tierra normally distances itself from international politics.
National interest in Heldur: Observation of other Nations interests in the Area, Observation of the long term effects of a Nuclear attack.

That's cool, most of the nations are still arriving here anyway, so you're accepted! Welcome! Plus your knowledge of the game and the universe around it might prove useful, since I'll have to explain less to you at times. But for everyone's sake I'm still going to take it a bit slow so no one falls behind.

Welcome aboard, might I suggest evolving your interest over time to something else as well, simply investigating is a bit of a short term goal, but don't bother changing it now, let it evolve over the course of the RP, that's more fun. :)

Heldur - a question,
Will we see the mutant Platypus,
- and was it a mutant before you were ravaged by nuclear fire?

Also for clarification is this modern times plus where you have slight leeway with technology or does everything have to b fully established technology (just making sure whether or not a hypersonic spyplane fits, cause if that's not your image its totally fine :) )

Ahaha, I had not thought about that, but now that you mention it I should definitely bring it in.
And no, it was not a mutant beforehand. It probably wasn't even the national animal before we were nuked either.

I'd say a slight leeway, but maybe just leave it as a supersonic spy plane. Also remember that there tends to be thick cloud cover over Heldur so that may affect any sorties you send out, but other than that go for it.

In general the leeway I'm allowing is whether or not a kind of technology is going to be available for proper deployment within the foreseeable future (ie. next 10 years). Also you may want to consider if your nation would actually be willing to send their new high tech toys, which are undoubtedly expensive to Heldur. If the answer is yes then by all means.
Thanks for asking by the way, hopefully this clears a lot up for everyone.

Heldur, I am running four or five RPs concurrently, so it may take time for me to get a response up today, heh. I'll get one up soon enough. My people will begin fighting the watcher horde.

I wanted to ask you, though, the wiki states that military-grade ammunition can kill almost anything with one shot. Since all of the ammunition my people are using is military grade, wouldn't that mean they would easily mow down the horde of watchers coming towards them?

That's fine, I'm pretty busy myself at times so I understand what you mean.

As for what the wiki says I'm largely under the impression that's a game balancing issue as military grade rounds in the game are not only rare, but are also your currency. Since from the looks of it their shotgun shells seem to be exactly the same as they were before the war, and how difficult it can be to take down some mutants with the in game shotguns (again in game balancing so you don't blow through with a shotgun), I'm going to say that these guys would take a few bursts to be put down.

A headshot will 9 times out of 10 drop most mutants of course, but the big problem is that they don't remain stationary as they charge, they tend to leap and bound, which makes it hard to hit them with a constant stream of fire, add to that, that they'll be spread out as much as possible to get around behind you as easily as possible and it's not going to be a walk in the park.
Of course you're in a good, fortified position, which means I doubt you'll take more than a few scratches at most, but you'll be using up precious ammunition, plus you'll be attracting more mutants to your position.

The Metro games are set in the ruins of Moscow, 20 years after a nuclear attack. When the Soviet union built the Metro system it was made to double as a temporary fallout shelter, and so all the survivors of the Nuclear strike are from within the metro system.
The surface and tunnels are home to animals that were heavily mutated from the resulting fallout, and are one of the major threats people who venture outside of their stations will face.

These may help set the scene:

Like with the creatures, the Metro Wiki is really useful with filling you in with the type of world we're in. Of course not everything is the same as the game series and the books, this is probably the fastest way to familiarise yourself with the series short of playing through the games and reading the books.

Nation name: Republic of West Aurelia
National Leader: President Michael Jones
National Ideology (Communism, Fascism etc): Libertarianism, democracy, capitalism
Quick summary of your nation: West Aurelia is a large player on the international stage, possessing a powerful military and a strong economy. It is largely libertarian, favoring less government control over the lives of its people. It also has a generally non-regulated economy, allowing for large economic growth.
National interest in Heldur: Scientific research on the mutants and the effects of the nuke, assisting any and all non-hostile survivors.

I have read Metro 2033. Also, what year does this RP take place in (for West Aurelia's records)?

Thank you! It's been a very successful RP so far, I'm really happy about how well it's been going!

Fair enough, I'm guessing Michael Jones wasn't experienced enough to be president in 2014 then? haha
