State of the Galaxy (ATTN: FT)

Postby Telros » Sun Nov 03, 2013 3:29 pm

State of the Galaxy

Hello, FT and welcome to version 2 of the State of the Galaxy thread. Many of you are already asking what that is.

Basically, Feazanthia, one of the old veterans of NSFT and an RP Mentor, kept getting asked questions about what the state of the galaxy was, as people tried to determine what they wanted to do with their nations, how to fit in, and so forth. So, he decided to try and compile the known situation of all four Quadrants of the galaxy (The community decided to use the Star Trek map system for sake of simplicity). Further, the thread was to serve as a hub for news reports, nations could TG him events that were going on, either ongoing or soon to be roleplays or simply things that happened that others could use. Feazanthia is rather busy these days, and things have shifted enough that I feel we need to bring this back again.

This time, we'll be using it not only as a news source, but as a roleplay repository, so that people can find what's going on FT if they don't want to go searching through II or simply want to read some news reports for flavor's sake. I'm working with Feaz on this, utilizing his experience and knowledge to better this thread. Just think of me as the manager.

The 'news' will update monthly, and will feature what stories have been TGed to me or Feazanthia, complete with links if it is a roleplay. Also, we would greatly prefer it if you didn't post in this thread. If you want to discuss a news idea or a suggestion for the SotG thread, come onto #NSLegion on Esper or TG myself or Feazanthia. We want to keep this thread nice and tight. And bear with us if we don't show your story. We may get to a point where we can only put out so much, and stories with links for rps will get precedence.

So without further ado...

The Current State of the Galaxy

For now, we're going to give you a little background!

Now, over to you Diana!”

***************************

“Thank you, Thom!

The galaxy as it is seems to be greatly calmed down and recovered from the aftermath of the Galactic Cold War*, which almost saw the galaxy aflame with war everywhere. The power vacuum resulted in a large spread of warfare, as powers competed to take territory and influence left behind by the two powers, IRON* and Hermes*, which resulted in a wide spread devastation of worlds and loss of life. Together with many reports of terrifying threats beyond mortal comprehension roaming the stars, it was a dark time for the galaxy. Now, however, it appears hope for stability and peace has reignited, with the fires of conflict dying out and the horrors going back to their holes or simply vanishing. For more, we go to our Quadrant Report:

Starting off, slow and easy, is the Alpha Quadrant!

For new listeners, this quadrant has always been the most stable of the four quadrants, being the oldest in terms of national bodies and settlement in the known history of the galaxy. Centered around Sol Prime, where the original Earth is located as the birth seat of humanity, one of the galaxy's most numerous and aggressive species. Earth itself is still divided up between nation-states, corporations and other powers, with the threat of mutually assured destruction being the main factor of the quadrant's legendary stability. Partially due to this, it is known as the place where 'old money' thrives, with ancient enterprises and businesses still maintaining their advantages and monopolies. It remains a quadrant with few secrets, though one cannot rule out the possibility of an unknown state causing ripples or one or more of those ancient powers waking up and flexing its might again.

Next, we have the Beta Quadrant!

Beta is known as the second wealthiest quadrant in the Milky Way, having achieved stability and economic prosperity soon after Alpha and having maintained it after the aftermath of the Galactic Cold War, having been affected very little by it. It is the 'new money' of the galaxy, a place where opportunity is rife and not condensed into the almost ritualistic dance prevalent in the Alpha Quadrant. There are established powers who have kept the peace, but they are not as entrenched and there is still potential for one or more to be unseated or brought down by economic or military happenings. Some of the quadrant is still unexplored or not quite touched, giving a hint of mystery and intrigue to a place that is solidifying its social and power structure, but there is enough give for those who wish to play the game.

Third on the list is Delta!

Ah, Delta. It has almost become a legend unto itself for its reputation of being a war-torn, blood-soaked section of the galaxy. The facts, unfortunately, hold much of this legend up as true. Delta was the center-point for IRON, as many of its nations joined the Imperial Republic of the North in order to boost their own standing. When it collapsed, many nations turned on each other in desperation, or simply to take advantage of the absence the alliance left behind. The conflict has definitely left this quadrant as one of the poorer regions in comparison to the South. One of the success stories has been that of the Huerdaen Star Empire*. A tiny nation from the world of Pantos, it surged forth to conquer a large amount of territory and defeated many nations and organizations, even having a small cold war of its own with Hermes under the banner of Legion, and emerged intact after the collapse of Hermes. It is known as one of the major powers, if not the major power of Delta. The HSE has gone quiet for now, and the fires are burning low in Delta, but they still burn. It is definitely still a place of opportunity, but it is one you must have the strength and will to grasp, lest you be dragged down by others vying for the same.

Finally, we come to Gamma!

Gamma has been quite the tortured quadrant, for after the fall of IRON and Hermes, it seemed on the rise to be unaffected by it at all. It had few established powers, plenty of undiscovered stars and planets, a new frontier if you will that might have seen a new colonial age if not for the collapse. This had attracted many new nations and political bodies, as well colonists, looking for a place away from rules and regulations, where they could form their way of life without being bothered. That was before the Rethast*, a race of horrifying aliens that appeared in vast, insect-like ships that devoured entire systems, infected and twisted whole populations, and carved a swathe through Gamma and Delta. Entire nations were wiped out, many populations were forced to flee and become refugees, overwhelming many nation's ability to process and manage them all. The instability caused by this was taken advantage of by the Vipran Imperium*, who quickly expand into Gamma from Delta, and retains significant holdings to this day. Now, with the Rethast disappearance, and the sloth of the Imperium, Gamma is recovering. The nations who survived the conflict and destruction have become hardy and tough, capable of becoming something in this new frontier, perhaps forming the foundation of the new power structure. Such success stories include the unaligned system of Liu Xiu, where corporate and national interests from around the galaxy have begun investing a great deal of capital. However, with the Imperium in slumber and the terror of the Rethast gone, others may be looking in and deciding it is time to make their fortune their as well. Only time will tell.

“Back to you Thom!”

I've gotten some telegrams, thank you to those who have responded. However, I think I need to clarify something. This news, if not an rp, needs to be something relevant. First contacts and such will not suffice unless they are part of some kind of metaplot or is going to lead to something significant. If you want to have it put in the news, it needs to have some relevance to the quadrant you are in or the Galaxy as a whole. A nation doing first contact with another nation does not affect most outside of that event, for example. Thank you.

This is the old and now defunct thread. The new State of the Galaxy threads are as follows: State of the Galaxy [Submissions/Open] and State of the Galaxy [Updates/Guide/Closed]. If you wish to file a submission, please do so in the submissions thread.

Hope that helps. :)
