Chief Administration for War

Following the declaration of war from the Empire of Yohannes against the Republic of Hippostania, the People's Republic of Mertado have now issued their declaration of war against the Empire of Yohannes.

This declaration is not a warning and will mean that the People's Republic of Mertado now exists in a state of war with the Empire of Yohannes. All military personnel and equipment of the Empire of Yohannes will now be treated as hostile and will be engaged as such.

Signed,

To: Hon Niall Collinson, Supreme Socialist Leader, People's Republic of Mertado
From: Rt Hon Julius Frej Shriver, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Her Majesty's Government
Subject: State of war [Translated to English][Translated from Yohannesian]

Attention,

As Her Majesty's Minister of Foreign Affairs, henceforth this letter shall convey to you and your represented government the acknowledgement of Her Majesty's Government for the existence of an official state of war between the People's Republic of Mertado and the Empire of Yohannes.

Any and all - if any - Mertadonese [OOC: please correct me if that is the wrong demonym] diplomatic representatives, commercial enterprises and distinguished individuals residing or with activity currently throughout the nineteen countries shall be left unharmed, to put into practise Her Majesty's [Amended] Resolution #37 'On War' which explicitly state as one part upon its text '... shall ensure the diplomatic sanctity of plenipotentiaries of the nation in question, and furthermore put into practise the guarantee of safety and to leave unharmed any and all commercial enterprises or notable individuals and people originating from the aforementioned nation.'

Though it saddens me heavily - and that of Her Majesty the Queen of Alexandria and Empress of the nineteen countries Garnet til Alexandros, to acknowledge the fact that together with this declaration, and the inevitable consequence of it - to see the future toll upon the victims on the would-be-field affected by this event, Her Majesty's Government has noted the unquenchable thirst of Yohannesian blood which your represented government has clearly shown with your belligerent declaration of war of no basis and justification. And thus with the establishment of this letter have we authorised for the rights of any and all Commonwealth Navy formations of the nineteen countries to openly engage any and all unarmed Mertadonese naval formations upon their immediate vicinities.

Sincerely Yours,

(OOC: Map of Mertado and Vampricus.)

Cabinet War Room, Kesdale, People's Republic of Mertado

The Cabinet War Room was a relatively small room. It could only be accessed by going into the Asgerby Tunnels. Asgerby was the area of the capital, Kesdale, which held all the most important government buildings, including the People's Congress and Jarrow Palace, home of the Supreme Socialist Leader of the People's Republic.

The Asgerby Tunnels were built for such a situation as this. They spanned the entire area of Asgerby, with each important government building having their own access point. There were only rumours of the Asgerby Tunnels floating around, never had their existence been confirmed by the Mertadan government. One of the many infamous rooms in the Asgerby Tunnels was the Cabinet War Room, alongside places such as the Grand Communications Exchange and the Missile Impact Bunker.

The Cabinet War Room its self was guarded by four men of the 'Mertadan Foreign Corps', the most elite Corps of an Army made up of convicts. It also required several means of identification to get in. If you were without those identification, the Foreign Corps would not let you hang around for very long.

Once inside, the room was pretty much like any other modern-day conference room. It had a large television at one end of the conference table, black leather seats and a glass table. Sitting in those seats at this moment in time were some of the most influential figures in the Mertadan military and political situations.

Niall Collinson, Supreme Socialist Leader of the People's Republic himself was sat at one end infront of the television. Alexander Ingham, Chief Administrator for War, Joshua Kidger, Chief Administrator for Foreign Affairs, General Alistair Williams, General Commanding Home Defence, Admiral Kayden Collinson, brother of Niall Collinson and Admiral Commanding the Home Fleet, and atleast half a dozen others were also sat around the table.

They were deep in discussion about the current war situation, when Niall Collinson stood up, waved his arms and shouted "Silence! This is not the People's Congress, this is where only one person has a voice and that voice is mine. I will choose who speaks now and who doesn't." The Supreme Socialist Leader let the room settle down before he continued.

"General Williams. Present us with your ideas."

"Thank you, Your Excellency. As General Commanding Home Defence, I have come up with three operations that will let us strike the Yohannesians. The first operation, Operation Safeguard is for our own safety. Your Excellency, even you cannot be sure that in a war like this it will not turn back on us for the worse. An invasion of the homeland is a possibility we cannot rule out.

As such, Operation Safeguard will mean the rallying of reserves and an extensive conscription program set up on top of our current programs. We also need to ask the Vampricans whether they will lend a hand in national defence, even if it is not direct. We should begin to collaborate with police forces and create appropriate contingency plans in case of an actual invasion.

Secondly, I would like to propose Operation Carpe Diem, inspired by yourself, Your Excellency. Operation Carpe Diem will involve a naval attack directly against the Yohanessian homeland, followed swiftly by a landing and, hopefully, a swift capture of their capital and downfall of their government.

Finally, I was thinking about an operation called Operation Fleming, which will involve units of the Foreign Corps attacking one of Yohannes' Overseas Territories, the infiltration of various places in the Territory and possibly the acquisition of information that may well be vital to both Operations Safeguard and Carpe Diem. I hope Your Excellency approves of these plans."

"General, very impressive work, very impressive. Wouldn't you agree, Admiral?"

"Absolutely brother. I'm just glad you are giving Carpe Diem to the High Fleet, not the Home Fleet."

"Watch your mouth, brother. I have the power to remove you from your position in an instant." Kayden replied with his silence.

"Chief Administrator Ingham, wouldn't you agree?" Asked the Supreme Socialist Leader to his Chief Administrator for War.

"Certainly. I can see the Mertadan flag hanging high on the towers of Ardenfontein as we speak, Your Excellency."

"Indeed. If that is all, meeting dismissed."

And with that, the assorted VIPs began to file out of the room, and as they were doing this, Joshua Kidger, Chief Administrator for Foreign Affairs whispered to Admiral Kayden Collinson "If this doesn't go according to plan, Admiral, we'll all be doomed after this fiasco."

"I wouldn't trust General Williams to come up with one smart idea. We are doomed."

And with that, the two of them went their seperate ways and left the Asgerby Tunnels to get back to their every-day jobs, Chief Administrator for Foreign Affairs and Admiral Commanding the Home Fleet, stationed on the coast of Mertado.

Naval Support Activity Palmico, Rojimore, Palmico (The People's Revolutionary Communist Pro-Korean Sub-Autonomous Republic Supreme Korean Military Administration Of Palmico)

In the radio room, the radio operator recieved the new orders by telegram. Quickly he took his head phones off and raced out of the radio room to present the new orders to the Admiral Commanding the High Fleet: Admiral Edward Wilson. Admiral Wilson was a seasoned commander of many a battle, though none quite like the one he was about to conduct with the Empire of Yohannes.

Naval Support Activity Palmico was quite an odd place. Officially, it was owned by the Democratic Republic of Krumbia, however, it was on the soil of Palmico, which its self was a protectorate of Korean Pheonix. Mertado, however, being a friend of Korean Pheonix was allowed to rent out part of the base to use as the home port of the High Fleet.

The High Fleet, unlike the Home Fleet, operated internationally, protecting the interests of the People's Republic around the world. They also took part in humanitarian and peacekeeping operations, if there was truly nothing else to do, as Admiral Wilson would put it.

When the radio operator entered the 'Fleet Command and Control Centre', otherwise known as 'FACC', he spotted the Admiral almost instantly. He was obvious in his dress uniform, the four stars of an Admiral prominent on his shoulders, and the many ribbons he had, many awarded for actual bravery in battle. The radio operator adjusted his working uniform, which looked insignificant compared to the Admiral's dress uniform, and walked over to him.

"Sir, a telegram from Asgerby."

"Thank you, sailor, I'll take it from here." And so the radio operators meeting with the Admiral was over as soon as it began. He turned and left FACC, to go back to manning the communications.

The Admiral read the telegram to himself with a stern expression on his face. He said quietly to himself "Orders are orders." Before turning to address the staff of FACC.

"We have new orders. We are to set a course for the Empire of Yohannes. I am sure you may have heard of our declaration of war against them. It is true, and these orders come from the top. Mobilise the fleet." Following the news, the staff started running to their stations, to inform ship captains and Marine officers. They had a new job to do now. But according to the look on the Admiral's face, it was a job that not all of them were likely to come out of.

Thank you very much, but we do not need your charity. I think it is Yohannes you should be sending your Red Cross to help once the fighting is done. We are going to be giving them a thrashing they will never forget, I can tell you that much.

[OOC: I have taken this from my old work from an old war thread that was cancelled prematurely, and thus it would be a waste not to use it -- especially considering my horrible lack of playing time in real life due to work and summer assignments.]

Port City of Nelson, Greater Dienstad

Nelson was so named after its founder, an aristocrat of half Kreatyve - of the Johemxuu tribe - and blue-blood white Yohannesian background. The present High Commissioner of Kingsley, Arthur Goodison, who has studied his naval achievements and personal beliefs more closely than any other Yohannesian scholar, writes that Lord Nelson's identification of Kreatyve with the non-white - yet culturally significant - orientals, and the use of the new testament biblical chapters as his channel, became important beliefs for his followers.

Lord Nelson, however, was not of 'pure oriental blood' himself, for his 'mother's undesired genetic side of the family was cleansed with that of his father'. As 'orientals', those 'people categorised racially thereunto were not of importance', and 'therefore their [genetics] were understandably weak in comparison to whites, for-evermore inferior and washable with the gene of the white men. They [the white race] were the chosen ones of God... He [God] hated the orientals; they were said to be of murderers to their own uncivilised, tribal kin, causing many deaths by means of their stupendous witchcraft and cowardly vice of trickery.'

For some reason, however, he was less judgemental about the activities of 'unwanted' Yohannesian Lutheran missionaries after their later arrival. Not that that would matter, for these missionaries were of 'pure background', though it was ironic if one consider the fact that the man's religion was Catholic.

When he was first given the authority as Governor-General by the Crown to do as he wish for in Yohannesian Kingsley; a small yet significant crown colony in Greater Dienstad, Nelson revealed his so-called 'Colony of Civilisation' plan for Kingsley. The plan, or so called by most historians as the Nelson Initiative, sought to establish a 'white only colony' or a 'civilised colony' in which natives were gradually assimilated and integrated with settlers. Certain aspects of 'positive native traits' and distinctive advantage were to be preserved, where everyone - no matter which group they fall into - natives and settlers, could more easily work their way towards prosperity and respectability, under Yohannesian guidance and goodwill.

Colonial prospectuses and allied - nations of formal alliance with the nineteen countries - advertising told many lies about the nature of this 'paradise' crown land. As an example, the industrial heartland of Kingsley was described as a 'place of smooth-like plains perfectly suitable for growing worldly apples, grapes, and olives'; by the time that these lies were discovered, colonists - Yohannesian and of foreign origins - had arrived and were unlikely to turn around at once, and depart. And they were arriving in billowing numbers; Nelson had 10,000 settlers by 1738, and 21,000 by 1739.

Lord Nelson eventually modified his 'Colony of Civilisation' and its disturbing (of this time) views as a result of his experience serving as a parliamentary member of the States-General. Though his original plan for a paradise white crown land was eventually proven to be an outdated concept two hundred years after the colony's founding, the former Commonwealth Navy Admiral's vision of Nelson as the centre of shipbuilding of the nineteen countries outside the Yohannesian home island came to fruition, as can be seen today; where almost ten percent of Royal Beaufort naval construction capacity was attributed to the port city of Nelson itself.

On that fine morning, High Commissioner Wiremu Rei-Higginsland was shifting through the insurmountable amount of paperwork which he was accustomed with and had to sign by, at the very least, twelve o'clock before lunchtime. Letters after letters were read, signature of bureaucratic importance signed, and the daily chores and ritual reduced as it would gradually be; the fixation of one's public career must surely be dulled with the passage of time itself, as the saying goes.

One letter, however, has caught his attention.

It seems like an eternity for the High Commissioner, though in fact it lasted for only a brief minute.

And as he signed the letter without hesitation, with it the fate of all the men and women of the Commonwealth Navy's Dienstad High Seas Fleet, he whispered,

'For the Commonwealth, I live'

RCS Ardenfontein, Nova Regional Water

Chess was a game of intelligence. Its black and white board was popular for his generation too, for as a child of the seventies petty officer de Beer was constantly being told of its connection with real life racial tree; 'white comes first, black second'.

Though the master's mate - of the RCS Ardenfontein - was a fan of the game, de Beer's problem was the fact that the navy forbid the practise of gambling. Not that he followed the rule, of course. He once secretly used his talent to collect quite a huge amount of cash; breaking the rule at the time did not bother him at the slightest, not at the very least if one count the fact that it certainly - and without a doubt - eased his annual financial 'cost'. Though the word cost would probably be a misleading one. As one of his colleague has once said; 'I daresay de Beer's ego is certainly higher than his own father, or mother actually... ouch'.

The comment was famous for it led to quite an equally famous brawl between de Beer and his 'aggressors', or so written in his record.

And as seamen of the RCS Ardenfontein socialised amongst themselves playing the game of chess, and muttering about de Beer's latest exploits, the gathering hall's bustling activity was cut short with a shocking announcement.

'Men and women of the Commonwealth Navy.'

"The dishonourable forces of Mertado has decided to extend its traitorous dark hand upon our fellow brothers and sisters of the Commonwealth, our beloved fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. As you may well have known as so far, the government of Mertado has for more than fifty years' past been acknowledged as a land of institutional tyranny and social oppression - her people and once-abundant culture have been shackled forcefully and chained mercilessly by the iron grip of leftist terror and the unwise dreams of socialist utopia that is meant to fail without a shadow of one's doubt."

"... And now, that grotesque utopia dream is about to enter our beloved land. And now, that maniacal Mertadan and frenzied leftist embrace will soon reach the shoulders of our beloved sons, daughters, wives and mothers."

A deep silence ensued, never has the hall been this quiet.

'And for that, we shall fight to the end, and to our very limit itself. This morning, the Chancellor Edmund Autenberry and Her Majesty's Foreign Office have delivered an official letter which implicitly state, attached as such, the declaration of war by the socialist government of Mertado and its people.'

Another deep silence.

"The Commonwealth and Her Majesty have been stabbed upon its back by the very people which have claimed their objective for the creation of a social utopia and paradise for their sons and daughters... at the expense of our own. We have exercised our right in Hippostania for that nation's apparent disregard of the nineteen countries' diplomatic sanctity.. clearly shown by the outrageous and without-precedent arrest of the Yohannesian ambassador."

"And for exercising our right to intervene -- have the People's Republic of Mertado exploited such an opportunity to pre-emptively declared its aggression upon us. For that have I called upon you, seamen and women of the Commonwealth, sons and daughters of Liberty, fathers and mothers of our future, to fight, to avenge, to prove, and to, once and for all, announce that we are a nation of the free, bastion of light, harbinger of justice and freedom.'

'For the Commonwealth, we live.'

Twelve Regional Waters

Though only few of the Commonwealth Navy's Gholgoth High Seas Fleet aircraft flew overhead to lead the armada, seamen and women of its almost eight-thousand strong ships - totaling approximately two hundred and eighty-six million strong in tonnage - had no doubt of their final destination. The name entrenched strong in each and everyone's memory; People's Republic of Mertado

Leading the amalgamated formation of various strike carrier and submarine operational squadrons were the three Commonwealth Class carriers; RCS Alexandria, Burmecia and Lindblum; engraved with their names were the three largest of the nineteen Yohannesian countries. This setting was largely left intact; a large by-product of relative conformity after the years of peace experienced since the aftermath of the Kravenite war of aggression, or better known abroad as that of the Gothic civil war.

The Commonwealth Navy was an interesting entity; for it was an institution by and large itself; a by-product of historical maritime extravagance and high colonialism. An institution which was once regarded through the many oceans of twelve regions as the chief representative of Yohannesian 'gunboat diplomacy'. It was a navy like no other; a navy which represent not just the nineteen countries, drawing its strength from Her Majesty's historical crown dominions, protectorates and suzerainties; Kylarnatia, the Federal Union, Tiami and Trivval, to name just a few.

The gradual naval discontinuance policy as well as independence of various overseas entities of the Crown Commonwealth Realms, however, imposed with it a forced reduction of the Commonwealth Navy. It was without question, therefore, that the Commonwealth Navy of that day - a day which shall be remembered by future Yohannesians as a day of Mertadan villainy - was but a shadow of its historical self.

Nevertheless, Admiral of the Fleet Sir Alfred Rousseau had no doubt that the present navy under his command was - its much smaller size in comparison to its past incarnation aside - still quite a force to reckon with; the fact that Yohannesian shipbuilding exportation extended through the waters of over three hundred nations overseas would have imprinted, with it, such a message.

For the past twenty-four hours, various transmissions were sent to multiple Commonwealth Navy formations in over twelve regions - bouncing from one another in a metaphorical figure akin to that of continuous ceremonial torches; extending its gigantic, warm embrace through the extent of twelve regions' oceans, from which various Commonwealth Navy formations had immediate presence within.

The sons and daughters of liberty was about to firstly defend their land from the insatiable thirst of Mertadan aggression, and to finally visit the People's Republic itself, and its region Arminkuren.

Though the estimated time of readiness and complete mobilisation could not be determined easily, there was no more question within the Admiral's mind that the time would surely come, sooner or later.

Cabinet War Room, Kesdale, People's Republic of Mertado

Niall Collinson picked up the letter. "What is this even supposed to mean?!" He shouted angrily to the cabinet members sat around him.

"I don't know, Your Excellency. But I am certain that it is a blatant mockery of you, and we should act sooner rather than later to defeat them." Said Alexander Ingham, Chief Administrator for War.

"I agree Alex." The Supreme Socialist Leader turned to General Alistair Williams, "General. Activate Operation Fleming. I have decided you shall attack Sondria, they are weak and will be perfect for an intelligence operation."

"I agree, Your Excellency. I will notify the appropriate people immediately." The General was about to leave when he looked at Admiral Kayden Collinson, "Admiral, a few ships from your fleet would not go amiss."

"Absolutely not." Replied the Admiral.

"Take all the ships you need General. Just make sure it's done." Said the Supreme Socialist Leader, overiding his brother's power. The General walked out followed by the Admiral with a look of disgust on his face.

High Fleet, Off the Coast of Palmico

Admiral Edward Wilson stood on the bridge of the flagship of the High Fleet, the Mertadan Naval Ship (MNS) Worthy, that he also captained. The MNS Worthy was a County Class Guided-Missile Destroyer, with several modifications to both the armament and the electronics. The MNS Worthy had seen action in many anti-piracy operations before, and small skirmishes having been commissioned in 1981 as a ship of the Mertadan Navy.

The MNS Worthy had two twin containers for four Exocet anti-ship missiles, one twin launcher for 36 Sea Slug SAMs and two quadruple launchers for 32 Sea Cat SAMs. The Worthy also had two STWS-2 triple mountings for Stingray torpedoes as well as one Aérospatiale Alouette III helicopter.

All in all, the MNS Worthy was still a formidable vessel if thirty years outdated.

The rest of the fleet was much the same - good ships from a time gone by. Usually the High Fleet would be supported by an aircraft carrier, but not today. The MNS Integrity, a Principe de Asturias class Light Aircraft Carrier was currently undergoing refit at mainland Mertado.

Our Glorious Socialist Leader Zachary Gradwell gave this statement in response to our neighbor Mertado "We condemn all military actions which are taken by The Peoples Republic Of Metado. We are offering Vamprican Red Cross services in the form of Hospital Ships to both sides. We would like to also state that any foreign aircraft, ships, military personnel, from both sides, in Vamprican territory will be destroyed. Thank you very much! Marx bless!"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Empire of Common Territories

To: The Government of Mertado & Concerned Others
From: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of TECT
Subject: Declaration of War
Encryption: None

Dear Yohannian Government & other bodies involved,

The Empire of Common Territories shall stand with the decision made by its ally, Yohannes. Her majesty's government have rightfully declared war to defend their diplomatic identity and their staff now being held prisoner of a foreign nation. Peace was now assured until the government of Mertado. The TECT government condemns this act of unjust declaration of war. TECT shall stand with its Yohannian ally in defense of its people and interests.

Therefore, by order of his majesty the Emperor, The Empire of Common Territories declares an open state of War between itself and the People's Republic of Mertado. TECT assists, guides, and protects its allies all around the world and will not stand by as an ally is threatened by war. We will gladly stand beside our Yohannian ally in defense of her people. As your representatives are reading this, a carrier group and other forces have began their departure to Yohannian guided targets. We urge your government to rethink its decision for you shall not only have the might of the Yohannian people against you, but her allies including the Common.

Sincerely,
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of TECT

Operation Safeguard, People's Republic of Mertado

General Alistair Williams was sat in his office in the Chief Administration for Defence building. He had a polished wooden desk, a leather seat as well as several pictures on the wall of famous people from Mertado's past. Including Niall Collinson. The wallpaper was green and the carpet was a faded blue.

The door opened and a man walked in as the General looked up from his daydreaming. "General." The man said.

"I have a report on the current operational status of Operation Safeguard."

"Ah, very good Colonel. Let me have a look." The man handed the file to the General, who sat down and studied it intently. He spoke outloud as he read.

"Conscription introduced..."

"...consripts avoiding call-up..."

"...Mertadan Reserve Navy crewing old vessels..."

"...searching of all vessels at EEZ..." The General read on for a short while longer before closing the file, putting it on his desk and standing up again.

"Thank you, Colonel." The General did the Zacharian Salute, which involved making your right hand into a fist, and putting the fist against the top right side of your head in salute. The Colonel returned the salute.

"Dismissed." And with that, the anonymous Colonel and the General went back about their business.

Operation Carpe Diem, International Waters

Admiral Edward Wilson was sat in his chair on the bridge of his flagship, the MNS Worthy. He looked out of the bridge window across the ship into the deep blue ahead. Admiral Wilson had never doubted orders before, it was his job not too. But today, he felt a revelation coming. He knew that if he were to defy the orders of the Supreme Socialist Leader himself, a number would stay with him and a number wouldn't.

There were still people in the fleet that were loyal to Niall Collinson to the end. Admiral Wilson had no doubt that he would have been removed from his position years ago for being disloyal, if they had found anyone who could do his job better. But they couldn't. Because there was none. Admiral Wilson was a professional Admiral, he had been in the Mertadan Navy Officer Corps most of his life.

However, his Fleet Executive Officer, Vice Admiral Sarah Onton, would most likely take over if he tried any sort of rebellious activity. Vice Admiral Onton was a staunch supporter of the Collinson regime, she was one of many who had been brainwashed by the waves of propoganda that had been distributed by the Chief Administration for Information.

If there was one thing the Mertadan government could do well, if not keeping people above the poverty line and providing actual healthcare, it was propoganda. Even the Mertadan Navy had their own Mertadan Navy Special Branch Propoganda Division. It was insane. But Admiral Wilson did not let propoganda on his ships. He would tell him sailors and officers the truth, or atleast most of it.

What he did not tell them is that this mission was doomed from the start. Suicide orders. Admiral Wilson had predicted roughly 80% losses if this mission was to go ahead. And he also knew that Admiral Kayden Collinson, the Supreme Socialist Leader's brother agreed with him. But he had no choice now.

But that was not exactly correct, was it?

He could turn this ship around, no one on the bridge of the MNS Worthy would defy his orders, would they? Do not be insane.

Admiral Wilson stood up out of his chair, straightened his Admiral's dress uniform and said "Helm, set a course for the Mertadan homeland."

"But sir!"

"Don't argue, just do it."

"Aye sir." And soon enough, the ship was facing the other direction and heading towards Mertado, and a proud Admiral sitting at it's head.

Operation Fleming, International Waters

All was quiet on the MNS Rook as it sailed towards it's target. In addition to the 25 crewmembers onboard of the Mertadan Navy, the Rook was carrying 40 soldiers of the Mertadan Foreign Corps. The soldiers were clad in black from head to toe, with black facepaint on their faces. They were armed with Diemaco C8A1 Carbines, and they looked like something you would not like to meet on a dark night. Partly because you would not see them.

The Rook was en route to the Yohannesian Overseas Territory of Sondria, alongside the MNS Orion, MNS Arthur, MNS Regent and 12 Province Class Fast Attack Craft. Once they had safely landed, the Orion and Arthur were to return to main fleet to help establish a supply chain of the Mertadan Navy Logistics Corps. There would be no point attempting a landing without logistics. It was vital to the soldier's survival.

There was a reason the Mertadan Foreign Corps was considered the most elite unit of the Mertadan military. The Foreign Corps, hence the name, was recruited mainly from non-native people. Not only that, but only volunteers could join the Foreign Corps. Most of the officers of the Foreign Corps, however, were Mertadan and fiercely loyal to the regime, unlike some of the regular infantry officers. Once they had joined up, they went through a gruelling training program, and were often the first to respond to international crisis'.

Once they had gone through their training, they were issued the best weapons and the best vehicles. As well as this, any member of the Foreign Corps that has been in the Foreign Corps for 3 years and is not a Mertadan citizen can apply for citizenship. Another bonus, though some would say otherwise.

FNL Vinnystia, Kameron-Class SSN
Patrolling Yohannesian Territorial Waters

Captain Madeline Lange stood quietly at the center of her command deck and observed her crew hard at work. Her boat had redirected from home to be sent on a reconnaissance mission in light of the Crisis in Hippostania -- and while it had been successfully averted -- they had been ordered to remain. Her boat and her crew had been out on a tour of duty for almost a full month and were about to be relieved of their patrol zone when her sonar picked up a massive amount of ship and sub signatures.

"Conn, sonar, fast screws bearing 0-9-8!"

Immediately, she ordered, "All stop!"

The Vinnystia came to a complete halt, her crew silent. To avoid detection they had to remain completely still and act like a hole in the water. Captain Lange silently made her way to the sonar room and seized herself a pair of headphones. She listened carefully as nearly 100 meters above them the Yohannesian Navy churned through the water. It had to be the largest naval deployment Madeline had seen since the Winter War. After nearly half an hour of waiting in the water and making sure that it was all clear, she ordered her crew to restart the engine and make for a heading that would take them in the direction of home.

"Katya." The Captain turned to address her Executive Officer. "Take us up to periscope depth and raise the radio mast."

"Yes, ma'am."

The Federal Republic of Northeastern Nations

The Prime Minister found herself awake -- even at 0100 in the morning -- no matter how hard she tried to get back to sleep. The back to back diplomatic missions -- on top of the emergency meeting with the Federal Assembly to address the issue in Hippostania -- had really destroyed her normal sleeping schedule. Instead of sitting in her bed, doing nothing, she forced herself into her office and began to work on the latest issues.

The conflict in Cvandia had ended in a peace treaty, which was good news. If there had been much more prodding against her nation, a border war could have exploded into a much larger conflict. The Lance Battery was up and running. At the moment, her Captain-General and Counsel-General were overseeing the proceeding. She would be joining them in due time. Not to mention that the crisis in Hippostania ended well. Throwing in her side for the defense of Hippostania was a risky move, and could possibly have resulted in massive casualties had it turned to war.

Many of the nations that had declared a blockade on Hippostania were not evil by her standards at all, many of them she would like to extend a hand of friendship. The only reason she felt taking one side or another was that it appeared as if they had not assumed the route of diplomacy. It was a good thing that they had in the end.

Lauren's eyes began to droop and she was about to welcome sleep when a noise interrupted her. On the desk, her cellphone vibrated and displayed on its screen was the identification of the Federal Republic's emergency band. She promptly answered it. "Lauren Frazier."

"Lauren, it's Andrei." There was a slight pause. "I hate to wake you so late at night, but we do have a developing situation which demands your attention."

"I'll get changed."

"I've gathered my naval personnel in the situation room."

"Very well." Lauren heard Andrei hang up on the other end and she sat for a brief moment in her chair with the words developing situation ringing in her head.

She prayed that it was not serious, but a part of her realized that it already was.

Lyons Estate
Halfax, Claireland
United Republic of Emmeria

0732 hours local time

James Marinas Lyons was the CEO of United Aerospace Defense Systems (UNADS), the largest aerospace firm in the United Republic for decades. Since he inherited the role from his uncle Arthur Diaz, Lyons had struck all the right chords in growing his business. As it competed with the likes of national defense contractors like UAE Systems, UNADS had skyrocketed to international prominence and importance under Lyons.

And all this made him a wealthier and wealthier man. Lyons never grew up rich—he was a middle-class Emmerian struggling for the Emmerian Dream of being successful and making something out of himself—but since he joined the company he had quite literally boarded a space shuttle and taken off, accelerating through the ranks until one day he found himself heir to the throne—chief executive officer.

Lyons was just getting used to it. He lived in a large mansion with his absolute trophy wife, two children (a youngest daughter and an older son by two years), and the house's butler. The UNADS headquarters were right down the street in downtown Halfax.

It was the wee morning hours, the sun just starting to peek over the distant trees in the midst of the orange-tinted sky. Lyons had slept early last night—he had an early appointment to meet with a few other businesses regarding a future joint defense project—so he'd missed out on the latest round of the playoffs.

He entered the kitchen wearing a tank top, athletic gym shorts, a snuggie, and sandals; relaxation and comfort always superseded a businessman look in a non-professional environment. His butler was looking through the cupboards when he noticed Lyons' arrival.

"Good morning James. Care for a cup of coffee?" The butler couldn't fit the stereotype better—mostly bald with a slight mustache and a British accent.

"Yes, that'd be great," replied Lyons as he sat down at the breakfast table, the day's paper folded neatly in his seat. Despite the level of technology present in his house—the networking and automation of practically everything—he still preferred to read the good old paper in the morning.

He scowled when he read vigorously through the sports section. "The hell?! The Partisans lost?!" he exclaimed, looking up at his butler. "How the hell can you lose a twenty point lead at halftime?"

He was talking about the playoffs for the National League of Football (NLF), the Emmerian professional gridiron football league. Gridiron football—referred to simply as "football" in Emmeria—was the nation's most popular spectator sport, its playoff games easily selling out stadiums with capacity for over 80,000 fans.

"It was a blowout until Braden Thomas threw three interceptions! Three! This guy's supposed to be the best QB in the NLF!" he screamed, spiking the paper on the table. Frustrated, Lyons, who'd grown up rooting for the New London Partisans, got out of his chair and stomped furiously towards the window, muttering the words "twelve career playoff victories my ass" under his breath.

He turned towards his butler once again. "You know what? I should just buy the Parts. Maybe then they'd have the money to hire some decent players for next year."

The butler, being British, had never really gotten into the Emmerian sports like football and baseball—he was a cricket and football ("soccer" or "association football" in this godforsaken country) fan. This entire time he'd been soaking in these terms he'd hardly heard before and remaining silent. "Is this like that time you wanted to buy that MBL team?" he asked.

MBL was the highest level of Emmerian professional baseball, the country's national pastime.

"The Ankchons? Yeah. You know, that'd be interesting. A team that gets rich every time some foreigners far, far away decide to go to war against each other."

"Speaking of which, Mr. Lyons, have you read the World section of the paper yet? You may like what you see."

Confused, Lyons scurried to the table and picked up the paper, hastily flipping to the World section. As soon as he did he was struck by the large lettering on the page—"MERTADO DECLARES WAR ON YOHANNES". Lyons skimmed through the article. He knew Yohannes had declared war on Hippostania and the resulting diplomatic crisis that led to a peaceful resolution at a peace conference, but this was new. His focus turned to the nations involved in the brouhaha, of which two stood out: Yohannes and the Empire of the Common Territories.

"Holy shit," he muttered as he ripped his smartphone out of his pocket, scrolling through the contacts for "Ledger Bell", the CEO of UAE Systems. UAE was a major competitor against UNADS, but he knew Bell wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity to cash in. The phone rang, and then rang again, before a husky voice answered.

"Hello?"

"Bell! My man! How's it going?"

"Lyons, I'm busy. If this is about the war in Yohannes, I already know."

"You know this is a golden opportunity, right? TECT and Yohannes, both are customers."

"I know. I was just about to discuss this with Warez. About to be payday for a hell of a lot of small businesses too."

"Maybe we could, you know, strike a deal with some Foreign Department officials. The more they use our shit, the more we'll be making."

"Showing the ugly side of capitalism, Lyons?" Bell replied with a chuckle.

"I call it investment in strategic interests," Lyons said with a wry smile. "You got contacts?"

"Sure do, my friend. You?"

"Of course. I guess it's settled." Lyons hung up.

Lyons sighed, his angry mood drastically transformed into excitement as he sat down and sipped from the cup of coffee his butler had just put down. He wondered whether or not it was right that he was supporting the prospect of war—of people killing other people, innocents dying in the process, lives transforming into hell, families shattering apart—just for the opportunity to make more business. A U.R. president had once warned the country of the military-industrial complex during the Cold War, and, much to Lyons' approval, he was right.

But right now, he didn't care. It was a relief after hearing of the Partisans being kicked out of the playoffs.

The Empire of Newtdom

Image

To: Niall Collinson; Josh Kidger; The People's Republic of Mertado
From: His Most Noble Grace Lawrence, Grand-Duke Hollistein, Lord of the Foreign Ministry
Subject: Formal Response to the Declaration of War Against The Empire of Yohannes
CC:Lords of Gholgoth; Newtdonian Media List; World Media List

The Empire is disturbed by the recent actions undertaken by the People's Republic of Mertado and the aforementioned nation's leadership. The decision by The People's Republic to instigate hostilities will undoubtedly result in the destruction of its infrastructure, government, economy, and its people. The reasons the People's Republic cite are weak and demonstrate to the world that there is an ulterior motive in their decision to enter a state of war with The Commonwealth of Yohannes.

By decree of the Emperor, The Empire will stand with her regional ally and offer any and all support requested by the Yohannesian Crown, including the sharing of intelligence, war materials, and if necessary Imperial Military Forces of all branches. Intelligence will be provided immediately, all war materials and ground troops will be offered on an as requested basis.

If the People's Republic of Mertado would like to avoid their utter destruction, the Emperor has offered the following to the people of Mertado:

1. Keep your arms, but return to your homes.
2. Remove the controlling politburo, in its entirety, from power and force them into exile. With the exception of Niall Collinson, Josh Kidger, and Alex Ingham.
3. The immediate execution by the rope of Niall Collinson, Josh Kidger, and Alex Ingham.

If these conditions are not met, expect to meet the Empire on the field of battle. In victory, the Empire will not show so much good will in its offers to the soon to be conquered people of Mertado.

Sincerely,

The D'Dareian Department of War
By Decree of The High King Dietrich D'Dary

To: Niall Collinson, Supreme Socialist Leader, People's Republic of Mertado
From: Lord Commandant Elsé Himmil of the Royal Naval Corps, The D'Dareian Department of War, Der Reichsbung Zelich
Subject: Transition to War
Encryption: Low

Attention,

Be it enacted by the High King Dietrich D'Dary, That war be and is hereby declared to exist between the People's Republic of Mertado and the dependencies thereof, and Der Reichsbung Zelich [The Federal Monarchy of Celis] and their territories; and that the High King of Zelich [Celis]is hereby authorizing the use of the whole land and naval force of the Federal Monarchy to carry out aggression on the People's Republic of Mertado. This declaration comes during a time of aggression on the The Nineteen Monarchies of Yohannes, and the involvment of our ally The Empire of Common Territories.

That being stated the High King Dietrich D'Dary urges your forces to stand down, and for you government to consider the option of surrender. There is no dishonor is saving the lives of thousands of soldiers and citizens. If The People's Republic of Mertado does not stand down in entirety then the combined might of many nations and their militaries will converge upon your country, and a state once prosperous and growing will be consumed by fire and death.

International Waters
1st Fleet, Task Force: Yankee
INS Insel Fort, Achilles Aircraft Carrier

The flagship of the 1st fleet, the Imperial Naval Ship Insel Fort, sailed like its name implied, a small sized island fort. It projecting power through both VLS's and aircraft aboard the vessel, the ship didn't need to be massed with other carriers to be affective nor stronger a TECT presence. This carrier was mostly filled with the F-36C EMLAR 'Super Viper'. It serves in a majority of roles including air to air combat and bombing missions a like. The new stealth multirole fighter was going to be tested now in the coming days as the carrier group approached its destination with haste.

The carrier, surrounded by many of other vessels in her fleet included missile destroyers and missile cruisers. Even a strong missile battleship for extra range capability. This fleet was organized to be sleek and fast but with a no weaker punch. The fleet was deployed so that maximized anti aircraft and missile capabilities and had a deep sea escort of extra submarines. The formation was flawlessly designed to protect from any threat, with advanced radar, sonar, computer linking systems, and much more defensive measures, the sky was effectively covered and the sea was theirs. They were followed in the near distance by the 2nd fleet, task force Zulu. They were a clone of the 1st fleet using not only the same ships but a similar formation of their own fleet. They were making haste in route that could be determined by simply looking at a map. Leaving to the south, the TECT fleets sailed in a hurry to the close by region of Sondria. Luckily for the Empire, TECT land was close in the region to the north allowing the fleets to make excellent time in arriving to their destination. It would no doubt beat the diverting ships to the region by mere hours, thankfully picked up by Yohannian intelligence. The only bad news was that the intelligence lacked any hard information on how many ships or what classes they were other than "A small detachment from the main fleet" was given. To quote the Rear Admiral (Lower Half) who was tasked at heading the operation, "Bullshit. Thanks for the moderately useful information." when he got the letter informing him. Rear Admiral (LH) Louis now sat in the under deck watching planes being readied and outfitted for the coming battle. He hated getting weak intelligence, specifically information that actually lacked the information needed; kicking his fordable chair in distaste. He was already forming a battle plan in his head on what he had gotten from the information; he may have had a temper but that only encouraged his brilliant strategies and tactical precision. He always prepared for the worst in a best situation, that was simply his style of leadership and how he was taught during his old days at the naval officers school; which has saved many lives and taken plenty as well. Being an old veteran, he was famous for using his experience with modernized technology. His officers cap hid the 52yr old man's graying hair and his complete digital gray, white, and blue uniform hid his old yet tough strong man appearance; he preferred the ensign uniform with his stars pinned on his shoulders rather than the brighter white and blue officers uniform. Mocking it as "a seagull disguise waiting to be killed first", insinuating that wearing the thing made him more of a target and looked more foolish than inspiring. He now sat watching crews arm F-36 'Super Vipers' that would fly off into the hell that is warfare, presumably bombing vessels from afar. He stayed spacing off imagining the carnage of sinking vessels split in half as the magnificent planes flew by until being called to the bridge by the ship's captain, he stubbornly sighed and went back through the stairs from once he came. His work was obviously not done yet it seems.

The captain only wanted to tell the Rear Admiral (LH) that they were now passing through Tugai Bey waters. The 2nd fleet would have to hurry if it was going to reach the coast of Kylarnatia on the other side of the continent. The 2nd fleet split hours ago and was making its way around the continent to Kylarnatian waters; they had to hurry because they have no shorter way but to travel around the entire continent. Ether way both carriers would be in reach of each other including the fleets themselves. The Rear Admiral had already sent out submarine scouts ahead of the fleet, acting as silent traps waiting on both coasts, laying mines and waiting in silent to see if the intelligence was true. High flying drones were also deployed to track any potential surface craft or underwater vessels close to the surface. The missiles primed and aircraft circling ahead and others waiting to launch, both fleets were ready for full scale combat as they approached their destinations along the coasts of both Kylarnatia and Tiami. The Yohannians were counting on them to help protect their land from these unjust invaders. Commoners are known for their defense of their territory and defending their close allies, this would not be a merciful fight.

OOC: Follow up post, didn't want to make the first one too long.

January 14, 2013, 0142 Hours
Stalag Situation Room, Valhalla
The Federal Republic of Northeastern Nations

Captain Andrei Malinovich -- commanding officer of the Federal Naval League -- stood at the head of the table, a stuffed red folder tucked underneath his right arm. Standing upright at their seats awaiting the Prime Minister's arrival were his immediate subordinates: the admirals of the League's two main fleets and Head of Naval Intelligence. Alongside the well represented Naval League was Air Commander Lilia Kraston, currently representing the only other military branch involved with the current situation.

The door opened and immediately everyone present clicked their heals together at attention. Lauren walked in with her hands behind her back. "At ease, Ladies and Gentlemen. Please have a seat." She slowly made her way to the head of the table as everyone present took their seat. "Now tell me, what is going on that requires us all to be here so late at night."

Andrei gave the Prime Minister the red folder. "This is a D2 report, Ma'am, alongside some recently gathered intelligence from the Vinnystia."

"The Vinnystia? Madeline's boat." She stated accepting the file. "We deployed her near the Empire of Yohannes -- after that debacle with Hippostania -- didn't we?"

"Yes, Ma'am."

The attendees sat in silence as they allowed their Prime Minister several minutes to look over the file's contents. "So, right now, what we're looking at is a conflict born out of the Crisis in Hippostania." She paused. "From what I understand, the People's Republic of Mertado has declared war on the Empire and in response the Empire has deployed their fleet, which is what Captain Lange encountered approximately..." Lauren looked down at her watch. "forty minutes ago."

"Your orders, Prime Minister?" Asked Mikail Vostrikov, head of the Nothern Sea Fleet.

"Right now?" She turned to him. "We do nothing. We wait, and gather intelligence. Send in the Katrina to assist the Vinnystia if necessary. And -- correct me if I'm wrong -- but wasn't the Anastasija on its way to relieve Madeline?"

"Yes, Ma'am. Would you like me to recall them?"

"No, no." She paused for several seconds. "In fact, put all three of them into play. Order them to use caution, and be discrete. We don't have a side to join, yet, and I'd rather us choosing than our subs getting detected and they choose for us."

January 14, 2013, 2130 Local Time
FNL Vinnystia, Kameron-Class SSN
International Waters

Madeline was atop her boat's conning tower with her binoculars, scanning the horizon for any ship masts. They had made their way into international water to make less of a conspicuous presence. It would have been hard to come with an explanation had they decided to surface and transmit while still in Yohannesian territory. Several hours had passed since she had wired her message and she waited patiently for a response from command.

When it came, the message was brief:

Anastasija and Katrina en route to provide support. Maintain current patrol zone until further orders.

It was better than having to shadow the Yohannesian fleet, granted they could do that. The Vinnystia was a great submersible -- and stealthy -- but it would take an awful lot of patience, quick thinking, and a lot work to keep up with the Empire.

Right now, it was just nice knowing she didn't have to torpedo anything.

Blood Money and the Commonwealth Navy

Postby Yohannes » Tue Jan 15, 2013 12:01 am

Commonwealth Navy Home Fleet, Northeastern Gholgoth Waters

The torrential downpour had continued for the last six hours, as if the sky itself was crying in deep anguish.

During the heyday of Yohannesian imperialism, the waters around him was not filled with the clear blue and white of sea and foam, for it was instead a shade of splattered black and red, as far as the eyes observed tainted with the smell of rotten flesh and oil. It was on this background that the colonial empire of Yohannes - Crown Commonwealth Realms - was gradually established through the extent of thirteen regional waters. And it would arise once again in that very same mixed colours.

There was nothing surprising about the so-called 'Mertadan aggression', for he knew such an event would come sooner or later. It was not a matter of 'if', it was instead simply a matter of 'when'. As First Lord of the Admiralty for the last thirteen years, his eyes could not but fathom nor imagine the speed of naval expansion which a dominant economy could have afforded for his land -- the nineteen realms of Her Majesty Garnet til Alexandros. Though the plan was suggested only twenty years ago, most of its primary objective has been accomplished in a rate almost twice as he and the Admiralty had initially expected.

Ever since the rise and subsequent consolidation of the five Yohannesian multinational corporate giants, annual governmental surplus of more than two hundred trillions was collected by the Treasury. Never mind the fact that the Yohannesische Bundesbank had invested its funds in various exploitative ventures throughout many of the world's underdeveloped and impoverished nations -- where money was the rule of law, and the rule of law was easily replaceable with the abbreviation 'USD' itself.

With a yearly surplus of almost a quarter of a thousand trillions since the late eighties, successive governments of Yohannes have invested in multiple military technologies of untold for expensive price tag -- the recent investment of three hundred trillions injected toward the Damocles Satellite Constellation Programme of the Lyran Protectorate was but just one example. VMK and Royal Beaufort were themselves the by-product of the Bundesbank's financial dominance -- it was akin to a grotesque cycle of never-ending profit for the nineteen countries.

Money turned into weapons, which in turn were transformed into blood money, and which in turn was reinvested into Yohannesian financial and banking sector. Rinse and repeat, and it was surprising to not just him but many of his colleagues that the so-called World Assembly has not condemned his beloved land even up to this day.

Blood money.

If they know of the fact that Yohannes was responsible for the death of many innocent people in impoverished, crackpot dictatorial nations throughout this world. If they knew of the fact that Yohannesian investment was a by-product of reinvested blood money and reinvested Yohannesian arms. If they knew that the luxuries, privileges and comforts which many Yohannesians today enjoyed in comparison to most nations overseas were themselves by-products of Yohannesian profit from the suffering of untold of number of nations overseas - that for every Pantera Tigris sold overseas was the death of another starving, impoverished young soldier in 'what-you-call-it-nation', and the addition of another VLT luxury model to an overweight middle-aged Yohannesian executive.

But two hundred trillions profit every year for a period of thirty years in total would certainly be of such an insurmountable sum of Universal Standard Dollars. If one counted the Gholgoth financial crisis of years past, then where was this huge reserve and untold riches during that years of suffering for many nations, governments and people? Certainly, such an amount of Standard Dollars over thirty years could not simply vanished into thin air.

Well, the answer was an obvious one -- one in which uniform he wore and the medals adorned upon it on that bright summer morning proudly, the Second Lord of Bloemfontein thought most amusingly to himself.

The Commonwealth Navy.

Thank you for your letter. However, I have no doubt that we will not end a war that we are bound to win. You would do the same in the same situation, would you not? I do not hold anything against Greater Celisia or Yohannes specifically, it is just that, by nature, we are a superior force.

Office of the President of the Free Republic of Lamoni

To: Hon. Niall Collinson, Supreme Socialist Leader, People's Republic of Mertado

Having witnessed your Declaration of War upon Yohannes, the Free Republic of Lamoni hereby acts under our Mutual Defense Treaty, and declares war upon the People's Republic of Mertado. Such a state of hostility will last until either the destruction of the military and government of Mertado, or until satisfactory diplomatic negotiations have been made, which bring this war to a swift and just close.

I have already dispatched twenty Lamonian carrier groups to assist our Yohannesian allies, and will assist our allies politically, economically, and military; as much as is required to win this war. You would do well to back down now, before Mertado suffers the worst defeat in your national history.

Do not assume that such a war will be easy, or end in your favor, for you do not know of the giants which you have awoken. If you don't know of what we speak, then you will soon learn of it on the field of battle. I do hope that your military personnel have their life insurance paid up, for their families will be needing that money soon.

Signed,

Andrew Stinson
President
Free Republic of Lamoni

Kuskrony, Lamoni

Even if permission had not yet been obtained from Yohannes to help with the war effort (it had), the sight of twenty Lamonian carrier battle groups departing harbor for war was one which would foul the pants of even the most aggressive warmonger. This much concentrated firepower could destroy the strategic infrastructure of even large powerful nations, with their powerful Integrated Air Defense Systems, and retaliatory firepower. Negotiations were still ongoing for the dispatch of Lamonian Air Divisions; these powerful aerial formations designed in such a way as to fulfill that most basic Lyran refrain, "Full Spectrum Overmatch." It was still unclear as yet if Lamonian ground divisions would even need to be deployed for this war, though elements of the Lamonian Marines were activated as their assigned ships and units were dispatched, mostly for harbor and ship security.

Any way that you sliced it, the surge of twenty Lamonian carrier groups filled one's view until the horizon, and extended even well beyond that, as the first such groups had already left harbor. Helicopters were filling the air, delivering last minute personnel and supplies before the ships left Greater Dienstad for the relatively short journey to the waters of Gholgoth. The minds of those who knew about the Geo-political maneuvering involved knew that it would only be a matter of time before the Gholgoth Regional Alliance swore their own Delcaration of War upon Mertado. Even now, the forces being assembled to assist Yohannes were massive, even with this token deployment so far by the Lamonian Navy. Yes, the dispatch of twenty carrier battlegroups (and support ships) was but a token deployment for a navy of 7,275 warships; this number not including the large number of non-combatant support vessels that a navy of that size would require.

Nephi, Lamoni

In the warroom located deep beneath the Lamonian Presidential Palace, a discussion was taking place as to whether Lamonian special forces teams should strike first against Mertado, and if so, which of the various special operations units should be selected to demonstrate their skills against this newest enemy of the Free Republic of Lamoni, and the Commonwealth of Yohannes. SAD, the Berserkers, GSRU, and MARCOS had all sent a representative of their own to this discussion, each one laying out what their particular special operations branch could do to Mertado, and how they would go about doing it. It was taken as a granted that intelligence information on Mertado (who had not had a high-priority intelligence gathering rating) was lacking in important aspects, but each of these shadow warriors were making the best out of what intelligence information could be had. Unsurprisingly, the various plans were born out of the various armed services which these groups came from, and their own sense of what the "mission" would be.

SAD (attached to the Lamonian Intelligence Agency) advocated a combined intelligence collection and sabotage operation, with the Berserkers (Lamonian Army) going for a straight sabotage operation against vital infrastructure inside Mertado itself. GSRU (attached to the Directorate of Military Intelligence) wanted to go for a kidnapping or targeted killing of the political leaders of Mertado, and MARCOS (Lamonian Navy) wanted to sabotage and destroy Mertado's ability to supply and support the naval forces which the enemy had already deployed, hitting enemy shipping and naval bases, supported by mining of enemy harbors for further psychological effect. It was entirely possible that more than one of the Lamonian Special Operations Forces could be involved on attacks against Mertado, but nothing had been planned out as yet; these were just the preliminary stages of the proper plans which would come in due time.

Official communications with the Commonwealth of Yohannes were being handled through the Lamonian embassy in Yohannes, but the Yohannesian ambassador in the Free Republic of Lamoni had been summoned to the Lamonian warroom, in order to give the governmental opinion of Yohannes in the wartime deliberations of the Free Republic.

Office of the Admiral Commanding the Home Fleet, Chief Administration for War building, Asgerby, Kesdale, People's Republic of Mertado

The Admiral was distraught. You could tell that from the look on his face and the way his desk was covered in files and papers. There was one particular file that had been read through many times, that much was obvious. On the front of the file it said:

Classified Document

Property of the Directorate of Naval Intelligence
Report: Operation Carpe Diem
Classification Level: 18

Image

The Admiral picked up the phone in his office. He dialled a number and waited for the voice at the other end to say "Hello?"

"What I am about to tell you is meant to be highly classified. We now exist in a state of war with not only the Empire of Yohannes, but the Empire of Common Territories, the Empire of Newtdom, the Federal Monarchy of Celis and the Free Republic of Lamoni. That's right. We are now at war with five seperate nations at once. Get out of there now. Forget the repercussions, just get out."

"Already one step ahead of you." Replied the voice on the other end of the line.

"Good, and god speed." And with that, the Admiral put the phone down.

MNS Worthy, International Waters

The Captain was in his office, which opened onto the bridge. He had just put the phone down when someone knocked at his door. "Come in."

"Admiral," said a young Ensign, "We are being boarded."

"Understood." Replied the Admiral. Admiral Wilson had expected Vice Admiral Onton to do something about the insubordination. She really only had three options. Let the Worthy go. Board the Worthy with Marines. Or try and shoot the Worthy and disable it. Admiral Wilson stepped out on to the bridge, "Sound the alarm. All hands to battle stations. Arm yourselves." Said the Admiral to the bridge crew.

Two Marines on the bridge, already armed, were approached by the Admiral. "I need you two to make sure no one gets in here. Understand?"

"Yes, sir." Replied one of the Marines, which was obviously more senior. The two Marines turned and left the bridge as the door closed behind them. The Admiral turned around addressing his crew. "Helm, bring us around again."

Realising the objectives of the Worthy, the MNS Phoenix and the MNS Pathfinder also began to turn to combat this new threat. The MNS Harbinger and Pacific both continued on their course, the Harbinger being the ship that was captained by Vice Admiral Onton. The Admiral looked out at the two ships that were coming to engage the Worthy. "Fire the 4.5 inch guns. Commence firing, now."

The two 4.5 inch guns began firing at the Phoenix, but soon enough the Pathfinder had found it's senses and launched one of it's Exocet missiles at the Worthy. The Worthy was helpless as the missile found it's mark on the front hull of the vessel, resulting in a massive impact and also a hull breach. The Admiral continued to stand on the bridge however, as he directed his crew. "Fire a return Exocet to the Pathfinder, continue firing on the Phoenix."

The Exocet from the Worthy, however, was way off target and missed the ship completely. By now, the Pathfinder had a helicopter in the air to extract the Marines that had been sent to board the Worthy, which were now engaged in combat with the Marines on the Worthy. The Admiral decided on a last minute decision to launch the Aérospatiale Alouette III utility helicopter, load into it along with his Second Officer and some Marines, and to head directly towards the MNS Harbinger.

Another missile was launched from the Pathfinder, which again found it's mark and the Worthy began to sink at a much quicker rate. The Phoenix had been hit in several vulnerable locations by the 4.5 inch guns from the Worthy, and it had been disabled but was not in danger of sinking.

MNS Worthy, International Waters

All hell had broken loose on the Worthy. Soon after the second Exocet hit, Admiral Edward Wilson issued a ship-wide 'Abandon Ship' order, as well as issuing a mayday call to any nearby ships that would fight the remaining Mertadan fleet. Life boats were in the water, and so were people. Admiral Wilson, however, had got in the Aérospatiale Alouette III utility helicopter with his Second Officer and four Marines, with an original plan to board the MNS Harbinger, but the Admiral decided that would only result in more death.

So the Admiral ordered the helicopter to head back towards Palmico. The Admiral did not know if it would make it, the capacity of the utility helicopter was not the greatest, but he could only hope. If it did not, he would die a cold death like many of the crewmembers of the Worthy would.

Admiral Wilson knew the priority was to get rid of the regime. He did not know how to do that at the moment, he only knew it had to be done. And he also knew that Admiral Kayden Collinson would help him.

MNS Harbinger, International Waters

"We continue as normal." Was the reply given by Vice Admiral Sarah Onton to one of her officers who asked her what they were going to do. "Orders are orders, Lieutenant, you follow them whether you like it or not."

"Yes, ma'am. Understood." The officer returned to his station as the fleet continued to move towards Yohannesian waters, with Vice Admiral Onton as it's new head and the MNS Harbinger it's new flagship. This fleet was even more doomed than the original one, but the Vice Admiral was blind to that fact.

The Harbinger, unlike the Worthy, was a frigate, not a destroyer. It was more modern, yes, but also smaller with less armaments and less capability. However if it could hold out long enough to commence the landings, then none of that mattered.
