"Initiate Bear Heart." Came the message on the cell phone of SES Agent Georges Kaan in the back seat of an Audi A8. It was one of the 6 cars in the undercover motorcade in Mallaska's capital city of Callista. Their task was to destroy the Repulaean Embassy in International Plaza.

Georges was in casual clothes like every other man in the car with him, and every other car in the motorcade. Everybody in the vehicle was preparing their weapons, Georges had a Makarov PM handgun, a Ruger LC9, and a PP-19 Bizon, much like what most of the other SES agents were packing. "Ten minutes to the attack point." Said Operator Jacob Hunnas. Every SES Agent was in low-profile Kevlar armor, sporting only a very small SES badge. There were 32 agents in total involved. The SES was Keymoa's premier Special-Operations force, far superior than many other special-operatives.

Harrison sat in the lounge of the STU Station, bored as usual, reading a newspaper article about the current Gavran War. "Look lively! Breifing in the meeting room!" Said Captain Rodger Lewis. Every STU Officer in the lounge, including Harrison bounded to the meeting room and took a seat.

"We have an urgent matter." Said Capt. Lewis quickly. "We're needed to help secure the International Plaza, word has it from the Intelligence Agency that there is going to be an attack on the Repulaean Embassy by Keymoan SES Agents." He said. By this time, most officers in the room had an astonished face. They were used to combatting gangs and hostage situations, not a fight with SES agents. Captain Fulk had breifed very quickly the matter and what to do. "Alright, with that said, arm up!"

The door to the gun safe opened, and each officer grabbed a UMP.45 and a WP-30 and sufficient ammunition, along with various other items. "Two grenades per officer! M32 operator will be using 40mm HE explosives!" Said the supply sergeant, handing each officer two handgrenades, and issuing an M32 to officer Howard.

In 15 minutes, the entire station of STU officers were loaded onto department Land Rover Defenders, escorted by two regular Opel Vectra police cruisers. "We'll be there ETA 20 minutes." Said Captain Lewis. The STU had 72 Officers in all en-route, not counting National Police regulars tagging along.

"Will you not sit down? You seem restless, Dan."

Daniel turned around in a slightly dazed state, as if returning from the depths of a coma. His eyes conveyed a deep mist that did little to ornament his baggy eyes. He trudged over to the table, trying to widen his eyes enough to allow for the passage of light into them.

"Lord you look tired, Dan." Said Christa. "How late did you stay up last night. Eat your dinner. That'll help."

"Till about two. Maybe three. What is this, squash?"

"Dan, I'm getting worried. We've barely been here a few weeks and you're already getting worked to death. I think..."

"I'll be fine Christa. I just rose to this position at a bad time, you know? The war's killing me. The Foreign Minister Tash is having several heart attacks a day trying to secure our interests, especially after the President pushed that Mallaskan aid package through Congress. Tash unrelentingly demands assurances that our interests are safe here and I cannot, in clear conscience, give him any. God I wish our leaders weren't so hot headed in their actions."

"What' a hot headed, daddy?" came a giggly voice.

Daniel turned to see his four year old daughter Maria Anne to his left. He hadn't even noticed her presence at the table. His fatigue had blinded him from one of the few great joys remaining in his life.

"Well sweetie," he said, pinching her plush cheek, "someone who is hot headed is someone who acts without really thinking first. He acts through emotions, not logic."

"Oh..."

The door to the dining hall burst open, revealing a tall, gaunt man in a dress gray and blue uniform.

"Ambassador Verian." began Sergeant Kerlis of the 4th Royal Honor Guards. "Forgive me for the intrusion, sir, ma'am. Foreign Minister Tash in on the phone in your study."

"Where's Kevin?" asked Ambassador Verian, referring to his aide, Kevin Heeds. "This is his damn job."

"Daddy, don't curse!" hissed Maria Anne.

"He's asleep, sir. I thought I'd fill in while he's resting up."

"Well thank you, Sergeant." replied Verian graciously. "What does the foreign minister want?"

"Sir," began Sergeant Kelis, "he wants an update on our present safety situation."

"Good to go." Came text from each of the 5 other vehicles.

"Hey, Overwatch tell us that the Mallaskan police got wind of the attack. The watches just saw STU vehicles going down the road, but they'll be 10 minutes late." Said Castrav Minnell while looking at his phone.

"No need to be worried, we can deal our blow to the enemy and to the police." Said Georges, looking out his window.

"We're here." Said Jacob, as the motorcade pulled into International Plaza, overlooked by the Federal Army guards stationed there.

"Begin." Georges texted to the motorcade, soon the cars broke the single-file formation and broke loose, speeding to the Repulaean Embassy.

The SES motorcade pulled up in front of the embassy, and the SES agents quickly piled out of their vehicles, weapons drawn and taking cover behind their vehicles like police would do. Castrav fired an RPG-29 at the gate, blowing it open.

"Don't go through it." Georges yelled, signalling two SES agents to the wall closer to the Embassy building. They placed a breaching charge, making a sizeable hole in the wall from a team to enter. Georges signalled the other 4 men from their fireteam to go and enter with the breachers.

Georges signalled for a breach on the wall opposite the Embassy building, which was done in quick time. He signalled for him and 11 other agents to go through the breach, while the last 12 agents had the entrance secure.

"What did you tell him?" asked Christa.

"I told him what I always tell him." began the ambassador disparagingly. "I told him our position here is uncertain but, for the moment, secure. He's a worrisome one, that Tash."

Not twenty minutes later, a loud crash followed by a series of explosions rocked the downstairs. Outside, more noise came, creating a cacophony of voices and detonations. Gunshots were soon audible from down the hall. Ambassador Verian arose with a shock from the sofa in his study. He looked up to see Christ, perched above the entrance door. His blood ran from the stigmata as water poured from the bloody gash in his torso. Verian clenched his fists, his nails digging deeper and deeper into his palm.

"My God..." he breathed. It was at this moment that he realized what terrible fate had been brought upon him.

He rushed into the neighboring study where he found Christa weeping. "I can't find Maria Anne!" she screamed. The door burst open from behind, revealing two Royal guardsmen.

"Sir," began one Lieutenant, "we're under attack. They've made two entrances at the front and back. We'd have to use the utility door at the West end of the complex. It's our only way to the bird."

"Who are they?" shouted Verian.

"Unknown, sir."

Christa's panicked shouted became deafening, even above the firefight that now engulfed the downstairs. She shouted at the guard, reminding him him of their beleaguered daughter somewhere on the premises. He assured her his team would locate her. One guard branched off downstairs to search for the girl while the ambassador and his reluctant wife were led to the west entrance. They ventured across smokey halls, shouts and screams filling their ears. At any shadow downstairs, the guard fired. He constantly pressed the ambassadorial couple onward, reassuring them of their daughter's safety.

The terribly futility of the trek was revealed when the trio reached the balcony above the western door, only two find two armed men already there. The guard cursed as footsteps could now be heard coming up the staircase to their right. He pushed the couple into a small corner while he himself took refuge behind a flowerpot, the only available cover within twenty feet. He steadily aimed his assault rifle to the top of the staircase and awaited the shadowy figures' arrival. At their advent, he would open fire with all the fury in his boiling blood.

Always the staunchly conservative family, the Verian couple huddled in their corner and prayed in Latin. Daniel always loved the old hymns and prayers said in that way. It put his mind at ease in any situation. According to him, one would become ever closer to Christ if he only learned to pray in what he referred to as "the Divine Language". Maria Anne even knew the Ave Maria in its entirety. For obvious reasons, it was her favorite. The couple interlocked their fingers as the approaching footsteps drew nearer.

"Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum, Benadicta tu in mulieribus et Benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis, pecatoribus nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen"

Him and his group of 11 other SES agents went up the staircase cautiously. Georges made a gesture to halt, and aimed towards the top of the staircase and yelled the codeword for other SES agents to answer: "Torvum!" He yelled. No answer.

Georges pulled a flashbang grenade and tossed it up the staircase and quickly signalled for the SES Agents to be ready to enter.

The flashbang went off, making a large bang and flash, as advertised. The team quickly made their way up, to quickly be answered by gunfire. Georges nearly fell prey to this, but he managed to get to a bit of cover before his fears were fulfilled. Castrav fell to the gunfire first, taking a gunshot wound to the head. The SES agents began retaliating with their PP-19s, matching the guards shot-for-shot.

Georges saw Jacob hurl a handgrenade out towards the guards, and all the SES agents quickly made a dive to any cover to save them from shrapnel.

The grenade went off, and Georges heard many pieces of shrapnel hit around the room, and the firefight quickly resumed, this time there was less lead flying at them.

There was a great ringing sound, penetrating in its intensity. Smoke made it impossible to see and even more so to breathe.

"Mommy!" a cry came faintly from the corner on the upper hall. Christa turned to see her child rushing toward her in a frantic panic, her stuffed animal in tow. She then seemed to stop, her eyes began to tear. She let out a shriek as bullets pelted the wall around her, She did not heed her mother's cried for her to seek cover. She only kept screaming at something in particular. It was at that moment that Christa turned to see her husband's shattered remains, his guard dead beside him. Yet the assailants continued to fire through the thick smoke.

"Come here baby!" Christa screamed. Maria Anne shook her head and turned about, running for the opposite end of the hall in terror. Her mother demanded that she return but the gunfire rendered Christa no longer audible as her daughter rushed away. Just as she was about to make the final corner into the far hall, Maria Anne dropped with a sudden intensity, as if someone had pushed her to the floor. A round had penetrated her small body, ending her short life instantly. Christa's screams were absorbed by the shouts of the men and their guns. Her tears fell upon the bloody ground, it seemed to her, with greater force than that of the raging bullets. Soon, as the gunfire died down, she fainted, her soft cheek resting in a thick, dark pool of her husband's blood.

Helicopters from the embassy lifted off in a rush carrying the few survivors out of the complex. There was great confusion in the streets now as people crowded about the plaza. The night was young and many passers by had to interrupt their nocturnal merriment to be in awe of the disaster now unfolding at the Repulaean embassy. The seven remaining Royal Guardsmen of the original twenty had taken position south of the complex awaiting Mallaskan aid. It was not yet clear how many people had perished or who was responsible for the crime. Nonetheless, the guards carried out their duty with unreal efficiency and composure. Smoke now billowed from the embassy complex. The last of the survivors had been evacuated. Untold numbers of dead lay inside.

But now, sirens could be heard in the distance. No doubt they were of the Mallaskan authorities. The assassins were now caught in the embassy, soon to be surrounded. One last opportunity remained for retribution as the Mallaskan National Police drew nearer.

Sergeant Harrison Meyers
Special Task Unit, National Police Office of the city of Callista

The STU motorcade arrived at the Repulaean embassy in shock at the destruction.

"Dismount!" Ordered Harrison as the vehicle came to a stop. The STU officers dismounted the Land Rover to see the embassy laden in smoke and blaze. A formation of 2 Bell 412s of the Federal Army hovered over the embassy, looking to be dropping military forces on the roof.

"Get the area surrounded!" Ordered Capt. Lewis, as he signalled for Harrison's fireteam of 6 and another two fireteams to enter via the gate.

Harrison entered the embassy building, screams could be heard and the sound of gunfire unbearable. The fireteam sprinted up the stairs quickly to the sound of the gunfire.

"They're on the floor above." Noted Officer Howard. Harrison ordered the team to climb the stairs slowly.

They saw the bodies of men in casual clothes and kevlar vest at the base of the stairway.

"Keep quiet." Said Harrison as the fireteam slowly made it's way to the top of the stairs. They knew that the hostile force was just beyond the top of the stairs.

Harrison reached the top of the stairs to be directly behind one of the attackers with bullets flying over his head. Harrison drew his baton and began a brutal hand to hand battle in the firefight, with the rest of his STU fireteam coming up behind to cover.

The hostile Harrison was battling had good skill in hand to hand combat, and had taken control of Harrison's baton, resuming a beatdown on the STU officer, but was quickly stopped when Officer Howard ended the hostile's life with a .45 ACP round from his WP-30. The remaining hostiles had engaged in a firefight with the other members of the fireteam, along with futile attempts at resuming their firefight with the embassy guards. Three of his STU officers had fallen, and it was unclear how many of the hostiles had fallen through the smoke, but the decrease in returning gunfire from the hostiles was a tell-tale sign that they had lost a fair number of their men. He saw Officer Howard run to cover further up, and was overrun by another of the final hostiles, who managed to get a pistol to Howard's head.

Harrison fired a burst from his UMP at the hostile, dropping him immediatly. The smoke cleared enough to reveal the last of the hostiles, enough to see the remaining hostiles.

As the smoke lifted, Georges spotted 3 members of the National Police behind him, and the embassy guards in front of him. He also noticed that only he and Jacob were left, and they knew that they couldn't resist. Georges dropped his PP-19, Makarov PM, and LC9 on the floor and put his hands in the air, with Jacob doing the same. They had been defeated, but not without causing enough chaos in the Repulaean embassy to measure up as retaliation for it's support to Mallaska.

The STU officers of the National Police quickly arrested them, keeping them at gunpoint at all times. Twelve men of Mallaka's Torvum unit had just entered the area which the firefight had tooken place.

"Keymoan SES agents." Said one of the men of Torvum.

The two SES agents were taken outside, to a swarm of media and the sound of sirens blaring. Georges saw the bodies of many of his SES comrads laying lifeless outside the embassy, along with the bodies of STU and the embassy guards, all being loaded onto ambulances for transport.

Georges and Jacob were loaded onto an armored prisoner transport, escorted by a motorcade of 3 Opel Vectra police cruisers in front of, and behind the transport.

The plethora of helicopters and arriving military personnel grew greater in volume. Twenty-four Repulaeans had perished in the tragic event. The survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital so that all may be secured in a single location to await evacuation from the country. Christa awoke in a well lit hospital room, nurses busily bustling around just outside. She immediately began to weep. A gueard nearby hurried over to her as he called over a nurse. He clutched her hand as the nurse casually went about the business of analyzing her tattered patient.

"My baby!" Christa said repeatedly. "Ave Maria!" she cried. She looked up to see who was kind enough to grasp her hand. "Ron!" she said with a hint of joy. "You made it, oh Jesus!"

"That's Sergeant Kerlis to you ma'am." he said softly with a smirk. "How are you?"

Her terrible spasm of weeping gave him his answer.

The incident left seething rage in the hearts of the survivors. For what had this attack been launched? What did it accomplish? Their rage would come to fruition in the morning.

Ancot, Repulaea
Ministerial Estate
7:00 AM

President Tannas had always hated sweat. He showed it too easily. He considered it a miracle that he was victorious in the election. Now this first year in office had morphed into something awful. With all the buckets of sweat that have drenched his suits in the past few months, he could have watered the driest fields. First, the Dalsiph Region Crisis, then the sinking of the Myriad Mile. Will there be no end to the crises? God's answer has, thus far, been "no".

"Ten seconds, Mr. President." came a meek voice from beyond the blinding lights and cameras in front of the podium. He nodded and cleared his throat, taking one last look about the gleaming central hall of the Ministerial Estate. "Three, two, one..."

"People of Repulaea, I have been given the gravest of duties to report to you that just hours ago our recently established consulate in the Mallaskan capital of Callista has been attacked and heavily damaged. As of this moment, twenty-four Repulaeans, including Ambassador Daniel Verian himself, are dead on foreign soil. Mallaskan authorities have taken two living suspects into custody. They are, according to the Mallaskan authorities, operatives of a Keymoan espionage force who were charged specifically with striking our embassy and terminating those within. This attack was likely made as a retaliatory action for our support of the Mallaskan war effort against Keymoa under the Keev Regime. I express wholehearted sorrow for the loss of twenty-four Repulaean citizens who died while carrying out their duties. One of the victims, my fellow Repulaeans, was no more than a child. The ambassador's daughter of only four years was killed last night."

President Christoph Tannas paused, staring directly into the camera. An exuberant new life suddenly seemed to take hold of him. His eyes glowed. His nostrils slightly flared.

"But let me tell you all something now, my fellow Repulaeans. This attack was unjustified, unwarranted, and shall not go unpunished. As of late, Repulaea has been kicked around by aggressors. From this moment on, while I preside over this great nation, no enemy will attack our country with impunity. We will strike hard. We will strike fast. We will be unrelenting. We will not waiver, not for a second. We will work in tandem with our Mallaskan allies in coordinating a military response. Keymoa has made an enemy today. Therefore, as per my executive order titled E0-E136, I have just this morning authorized the immediate dispatch of Repulaean military forces to Mallaska. From here will shall work to defeat the Keymoan regime and its Gavran allies who seek to usurp freedom, democracy, and life. I seldom make pledges I cannot keep. I make this solemn promise to you now, my fellow Repulaeans: I will ensure that the effort spent in this conflict and the lives lost at our consulate will not be in vain. We will be successful, so help me God."
