The Cairnlund Games (Story)

Postby Jothastein » Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:02 am

[OOC] This is the story thread. Please sign up here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=173113 if you have not already. There is only room for 16 contestants (about 8 players). If there are already 16 contestants, feel free to join the Spectator thread here. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=175481

We will be starting by having your contestants arrive in the city of Cairnlund. From there they will be moved to the holding apartments in the highlands outside Cairnlund following a festival in their honor.

[IC] Kiren stepped off the train and looked at the hanging festival lights, amazed. The closest he had ever come to witnessing such grandeur was at the fertility festival held in honor of Uthras every Spring. He looked over his shoulder at his fellow contestant. "It is beautiful, is it not Sari'ye?"

Caris glanced at the lights. "I've seen better," she responded, bored. She looked down, studying her shoes. "Don't call me Sari'ye. It's weird."

Kiren looked at her curiously, then looked away. "Very well." He answered coolly.

The Dyellians were clearly frosty towards one another, although the reasons were not exactly clear. Certainly neither was speaking about it. Isolde eyed the Jothans with aprehension, although her upbringing among the Dyellian nobility had taught her to hide her emotions very well and she certainly didn't convey her concern in her expression. The male one was huge! It would most likely tear her limb from limb if she got too close, she decided, already trying to figure out how she might survive if it came to fighting either of them. Inwardly she reminded herself that everyone had a weakness, even if it was hubris. She was a Djel, one of a race that was not especially large, not especially long lived (compared to many other races in Dyellian space) and not noted for being hugely intelligent. What they had in no small quantity were patience and animal cunning. If she were to survive, it would be through her wits.

One had commented on the lights. Isolde glanced up. Sure, they were pretty, she had seen more impressive displays, but that did not detract from this moment and she allowed herself to smile, "I don't know." she chipped in. Her accent was refined, almost a perfect example of 'received pronunciation' (or what some would call 'Queen's English'), "I know it isn't the grandest display created in the history of the world, but it is pretty in its own right."

She ran her hand across her cheek, subconsciously checking that no strands of golden hair had escaped her ponytail. It was a tell for when she wasn't entirely comfortable although it would probably only be spotted by those who knew her well... which was nobody at this stage.

Kenji meanwhile made no attempt to engage anyone in conversation, following the group a few paces back. Making friends was not why he was here. He was here to win, to become rich in the arena the way the gladiators of Diocletian had in generations past. He deeply wanted to get the opportunity to fight the Djel though, so that he could, in some small way, avenge his family. The other creatures... he would deal with them if and when he needed to, but the Djel girl... he would take real pleasure in killing her. He only hoped that she would win all her matches up to that point.

Caris glanced at the contestants from Dyelli Beybi. The short one was kind of cute, she thought. She reminded Caris of the idiot noble girl who had come to the university with her father while Caris was still an apprentice. Only more spacey. The male, on the other hand, looked as if he were plotting a thousand different ways to snap her neck. She stuck her tongue out at him, then turned to Isolde. "I guess, if you like this kind of thing," she responded, poking one of the lights with her finger.

Kiren gazed at the lights a little longer, then turned to the Dyellians. He bowed to the female, then looked briefly at the male, deciding if he was a serious threat. Kiren doubted it. Kenji seemed too angry and undisciplined to be a warrior worth remembering.

Kiren turned back to Isolde. "Alye'tral, Sari'ye," he greeted formally. "If we are to be opponents, might I have your name? I am known as Kiren."

Caris kicked him. "Don't interupt other people's conversations." Kiren just glanced at her.

[OOC] Jothans have a vaguely Irish accent. Also, Jothan soldiers are extremely good at reading potential enemies due to their frequent 'wars' with the Hestiafaunesians and extensive training. I forgot to put this little tidbit in Kiren's bio.

[IC]

Deslana and Vittorio hardly talked to each other as they were prepared by Adantas' Ambassador Rolian and the Jothan handler over the train trip travelling to Cairnlund. For most of the trip when Rolian wasn't telling them how to behave they were otherwise left to their own devices. Rolian didn't mind as much because in his view he was simply the escort and they were old enough to take care of themselves. Des practised techniques that didn't require a lot of room and Vittorio mostly stayed in his room pouring over the notes that he took down from the ancient texts. In the odd chances that they did speak to each other it was short and to the point, mainly about what Cairnlund would look like and what they would expect. They weren't rude or anything just simply not interested in each other. They were actually very polite to each other, just not making any attempt to learn more about the other. This was actually against Des' nature but she wasn't quite herself. She was largely focused on the Cairnlund Games. Although she still couldn't help coming out with cheeky comments every so often. The trip took 4 days but thankfully they were upgraded to the royal compartment so they had the luxury of their own rooms, studies and bathrooms. There was their own dinning room and living room, even kitchen staff to prepare them anything they wanted. Des wasn't too bothered as she on many occasions had visited the Palace. Vit however was overwhelmed and didn't know how to react. So he withdrew into himself and took very little.

Finally they had arrived. In honour of the occasion Des was required to wear a dress and Vittorio a suit. Both felt extremely uncomfortable yet the stylist was very good at her job and really they did look good. They stepped out onto the station, which was simple and designed for practicality but for the event was adorned with festival lights. The effect was stunning and all of them including Rolian's eye's drank in splendour. With their unique eyes the room was filled with colours that to anyone else was white or simply not there. Of course it wasn't the extravagance that Thoin or the Palace would do but it was different and enchanting all the same. Being a guest they needn't worry about finding their luggage. Immediately their handler took charge. There was no dilly dally under her watch and she instructed them curtly,
"This way." Like sheep they followed her as she lead them out of the station. The city was impressive but what startled them both was the fact that it was encircled by a huge wall. To them it felt like a cage. In Adantas The only place that was fenced off was the Palace, the provinces were free to come and go as they pleased. The people where dressed smartly they noticed too. All in all the two people weren't hugely different. So the two as they followed their elders they kept themselves busy surveying this new city.
As they walked Des leaned over to Vittorio,
"Why do you think they have a wall?" He pondered for a bit before shrugging and responding,
"Maybe they just don't like visitors?" Des nodded as this was as plausible as any theory they could come up with. Down the road a bit they came towards a group of four. Obviously their handler knew who they were so Vittorio assumed that they may be other contestants especially since two of them were from another race.
"You shouldn't stand there," she stated sternly. "Come. We are going to the temporary accommodations in the hotel."
The group wasn't thrown off the slightest and just took it in their stride to follow. As they reached the hotel she turned to face them,
"The Palace and Grand Temple are down there. You can see them from here. They should be fairly obvious." she smiled like something was funny. Des couldn't help but comment again to Vittorio
"Obviously they weren't going to miss something that tall!" Surprisingly he chuckled.
"Keep in mind that the Palace is off limits, as her majesty Crown Princess Liara is staying there. The Temple, however, is open to all."
She nodded curtly to conclude her little statement before she was off again through the entrance and heading straight for the elevator. Once inside she pushed floor twelve and in no time at all they were there and the doors binged open. As they opened and they walked out with their mouths agape at the extravagant entrance room and fantastic view but the handler stayed in the elevator. Holding the door open so it didn't close while she was talking she said,
"You will be staying here until after the festival. Feel free to explore the city before then, however. Just make sure you are with another contestant." She hesitated. "try to limit all conflict to your matches." And without further adieu left them. All three of them looked quite startled at the abruptness but shook it off as the Jothans custom. Des was the first to go exploring and quickly found her room with her luggage already there. She came back out to the entrance hall and declared to both Rolian and Vittorio before either had a chance to move,
"This is going to be amazing!"

{OOC thanks for the fix ups! I've edited it and I hope it's better now}

[OOC] Just gonna correct you on some stuff...

1) You do not need the apostrophe for pluralities.
2) Jothans do not shake hands - physical contact tends to upset them for various reasons.
3) No one would have greeted them - a handler would have been sent to Adantas and travelled with them to Cairnlund.
4) Jothans have slitted pupils, not eyes. Think of cats or snakes.
5) Jothans tend to not invite foreign dignitaries to Cairnlund - all foreign politics take place in Rikngrad, to the southwest of Cairnlund across the Sand Belt.
6) I liked what you did with the station. Nice idea.
7) The actual festival isn't for a couple of days. They're just setting up right now.

Other than that, nice job. I'm just pointing this out because it was bugging me and I couldn't focus on a response.

[IC] "This way," said Dislana and Vittorio's handler, a tall, Hestian woman with black hair and piercing silver eyes. She led them through the station, then turned them towards a small group of contestants she spotted standing in the road. "You shouldn't stand there," she greeted. "Come. We are going to the temporary accommodations in the hotel."

The contestant and handler made there way through the bazaar, weaving through the workers and crowded stalls. Upon arrival at the hotel, she stopped them and pointed further down the street. "The Palace and Grand Temple are down there. You can see them from here. They should be fairly obvious." she smiled at her joke- the Palace and Temple were the tallest buildings in the city; the Grand Temple's central spire was visible from all over Jothastein. "Keep in mind that the Palace is off limits, as her majesty Crown Princess Liara is staying there.([OOC] Look! A potential romantic interest maybe!) The Temple, however, is open to all."

She led them into the hotel, towards an elevator, and up to the penthouse on the 12th floor. "You will be staying here until after the festival. Feel free to explore the city before then, however. Just make sure you are with another contestant." She hesitated. "try to limit all conflict to your matches."

Kenji haughtily ignored the tongue stuck out at him, and Isolde ignored him in turn. She had tried to talk to him earlier. He was a Dyellian, but he had been snappy and more than a bit rude, so she had stopped making the effort. Trying to form a conversation with him was like trying to herd cats. Were all Benjians the same? She had never been to the homeworld... "Alye'tral, Sari'ye?" she queried, not understanding what had just been said to her, "A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am indeed an opponent." she inclined her head slightly, "Isolde Jones."

She left of the 'of Angevin' part. Some people, particularly those from Republics, got funny ideas about nobles and she saw no advantage in sharing that information, "I am from the United Prefectures of Outremere, the largest of the many States that make up the Dyellian Teyrnasoedd."

There was one slight clue to her background though. Isolde was wearing a collared beige blouse and serviceable skirt. It was nothing flashy, if a little snug fitting. In the Dyellian fashion, she had also added a dark brown cloak, and this was fastened over her right shoulder with a golden lion rampant. It was unlikely anybody knew what such devices meant, with the possible exception of Kenji, but if anyone had studied the xenophobic and isolated Dyellian races they would know that cloak brooches were a common way of displaying which house a noble belonged to, "I take it you folks are local?" she hazzarded, her eyes falling, as she spoke, on the pair of Adantasians.

The look of surprise on Isolde's face was comical, if quickly replaced by her usual carefully composed smile. Her hand darted to her hair again, "Gosh, I definitely feel small in this company. Would you believe that back home I am regarded as tall?" she grinned, "I should insist that if I get drawn against one of the big ones that they get cut off at the knees first in order that there is no unfair advantage." that comment earned a disgusted sound from Kenji, who clearly did not appreciate the joke.

At that point the Hestian woman intercepted the group and moved them on to the hotel. Kenji, perhaps predictably, vanished into his rooms, not to reappear. Isolde, however, dropped her stuff off, then headed back to the lobby. She wanted to go exploring, but figured she might get lost on her own... and there was also the fact she had been told not to do that. She hoped one of the locals might reappear so that she could impose on them to act as a tour guide, not that she imagined it would be much of an imposition - most people were proud of their cultures.

Caris, who had never bothered to enter the elevator, saw Isolde wandering around the main foyer. She watched Isolde for several minutes, then spoke up. "It means hello," then, seeing the confused expression Isolde quickly covered up, added, "Alye'tral. It's a polite way of saying hello." Caris crossed to where Isolde was standing. "And Sari'ye is one of our words for 'my lady'. I think he was just being polite, though." Caris gestured to Isolde's clasp. "Angevin, right? I read a book about one of your anscestors a few years ago. It was boring as hell. No offense."

Kerin stared at his room with distaste. It was far too small for any real training to take place. He crossed to the window, opened it, and peered outside. It was almost dusk, yet the streets were still crowded with workers. He looked at the ground below his window, then at the people in the streets. After some careful consideration, he came to the conclusion that no one would notice him. He climbed out the window, then dropped 150 feet to the pavement below.

He cast a quick glance around, determined he was correct in surmising that no one would notice him, then took a running start at the nearest high rise. He jumped, caught a drainage pipe, and started climbing up the building, moving from handhold to handhold, using his tail to maintain balance. When he reached the roof, he stopped, looked around, then continued his jouney through the city.

Isolde was... composed. She leaned casually against a wall, although her eyes darted here and there taking everything in.

"None taken." Isolde grinned broadly, "Figured nobody would notice what it meant... and it looks pretty."

She moved the palm sized gold lion so that it caught the light. A small ruby was set in place of an eye, but that was the only patch of anything other than gold on it. It was covered in finely etched details, almost certainly the work of a goldsmith from Tara - one of the more rural Dyellian States.

"I'm honestly surprised anyone would study us outside of the Teyrnasoedd, we are not the blood of Tzars." although their was an Angevin named as the current Tzarina's successor, so that could very much change, "I take it the bloody politics of Dyelli Beybi aren't really your thing? Then again, academics can make anything boring. Are you planning to take a wander? I was hoping someone might be able to point out what things are interesting things in this city."

She paused for a few moments, "They said we're not allowed in the Royal Palace right?" there was a hint of sly suggestion about her tone... Apparently telling Isolde not to do something was a sure way to make her decide it was the thing she most wanted to do.

Des was completely occupied with the view. It was as if she was trying to commit every speck of detail to memory. Her nose was pressed firmly on the glass and where she was breathing a little fog patch had formed. Like a ghost Vittorio had wafted up behind her and stared quizzically at her bent figure.
"I would appreciate it if you didn't stare at my ass." She said without even turning. Shocked and more than a little bit embarrassed he tried to reply,
"No I... It wasn't- I didn't mean..." he spluttered his cheeks growing redder. She stood up and slowly turned to face him with a smirk glued to her face.
"It's okay. I know you weren't, I was just having a bit of fun! Relax." She gave him a playful punch on the shoulder,
"Now come on, lets go explore this place, seriously it's huge and looks so different. Maybe we could even meet some of the other contestants down in the lobby."
Without waiting for his reply she grabbed him by the elbow and basically dragged him to the elevator. On the way down Des spontaneously said,
"You know what. You need a nickname. Vittorio is a mouth full. What about Rio?"
He raised his eyebrow and scrunched his nose up.
"Okay. Somehow I don't think so." She brought her hand to her chin as she concentrated on finding him a nickname.
"Alright then. How about Vit? Not difficult at all." She couldn't help but smile and neither apparently could Vit.
"You know I've never had a nickname before and it's kinda fun." he said so innocently. Des felt a twang of guilt for not trying to get to know him on the train trip. But was quickly replaced with excitement as the elevator went ding indicating that they had reached the lobby floor. Des strolled out confidently as if she owned the place and Vit despite in her shadow still held his head up high. There were a few older looking Jothans milling about in the lobby but no signs of other races or the other contestants that they had seen earlier. Just as they had given up and were about to just walk out the front entrance and hope for the best, Vit spotted them.
"Look. Just leaving now the two females from before." Des made a quick scan to see where he was pointing. She spotted them just before they exited and started walking down the street.
"Come on let's follow them!" She hadn't let go of Vit's elbow yet so breaking into an easy sprint she dragged him with her.

They caught up with them quickly but stayed a good distance behind so they wouldn't immediately know they were being followed.
"Why are we doing this Des?" asked Vit who was beginning to get a little bit nervous about this 'adventure'.
"Because I want to see where they're going." she replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Well yes I figured that but why don't we just ask to come with them instead of doing this?"
"Because this is waaay more fun!"

Vit wasn't an expert on the Cairnlund city but he did know the Royal Palace and that was exactly where the other two contestants were heading.
"Des! They're heading for the Palace. We were told that that was off limits." She scoffed and told him,
"So what? If they think they can go there well we're not missing out either!"

Caris grinned at Isolde's hidden suggestion. "That they did." She started walking toward the exit. "But then, I never have been one for rules."

Isolde and Caris walked up the street toward the palace, keeping out of sight of the crowds. When they were across the street from the Palace, Caris pulled Isolde abruptly down a nearby alley. "Shhh..." she warned. "We're being followed." Caris peered around the corner. "Looks like the Adantians. What d'you say we make our trip a little more... vertical?" Caris peered up at the roof of a nearby building, then back at Isolde, cocking one eyebrow.

"Maybe they aren't much for the rules either. They do stand out rather."the young Djel remarked dryly, but left it at that. There was also a rule on keeping conflict to the matches, and she hoped that nobody was planning to break that one. To Isolde's mind, such a move would be dishonourable, but she could imagine other competitors trying to eliminate one another early. Thankfully, she imagined she was viewed as one of the least threatening people to have enrolled to date and she doubted it would be in anyone's best interest to kill

"Lead on." Isolde suggested. She was not one much given to climbing, but Djels were nimble by nature and she assumed she could probably follow Caris... she just wouldn't be able to easily find the holds on her own.

"Excellent. This way." Caris ran at the nearest building and began to quickly climb up it, using her hands and tail to grab all available handholds. She was up on the roof in barely a minute. She looked back down and saw Isolde cautiously trying to follow the path Caris had taken. "Need some help?" Caris called.

They were getting nearer and nearer to the Palace but just a few blocks away the two females ducked around a corner. Des halted at the corner causing Vit to run into her.
"Woah! What? Why'd we stop?"
"SHHH. I think they've caught on to us following them. Now here's the plan we can't not continue otherwise they'll think we're pussy for not following, so we'll just casually walk past and I will glance down to see where they are going. Got it?"
"Ok."
They nodded at each other and started their stroll. As if there were no cares in the world Des glanced down the alleyway. She wouldn't have seen where they had gone were it not for some movement climbing up the side of the building.
"So that's how they're going to play it." smirked Des, appreciating a challenge, "Come on Vit this just got a little bit more exciting!"

Isolde followed slowly. There was a gracefullness about the way she moved that covered, in part, for the fact that she had never tried to scale a building before. She had been up a rock wall before, and the idea was similar, "I'm fine." she called back quietly, trying not to alert anyone in either the building or at ground level, "You never learn unless you do stuff yourself n'est ce pas?"

Her fingers curled into a handhold as she levered herself up a few more feet, "Were I to have known we were going to be climbing a building I might have worn something more appropriate for the task." she half grumbled, half joked, "I'd have worn pants for a start... and probably ditched the cloak..."

A few moments later her hands found the edge and she rolled over. She lay on her back for a few moments, giggling triumphantly, then, quick as a cat bounced back to her feet. Her grey eyes shone with genuine excitement, "I wish I had a tail." she pouted, "Actually... I'd have got teased mercillessly - I don't wish I had a tail, but it definitely looks useful. So where to now, most valiant leader?"

"Hmmm..." Caris scanned the rooftops, thinking. "Maybe we could.... No..... How about...." She stood thinking a moment longer, then grinned and took off, headed east. "This way!" she called over her shoulder.

She led Isolde deep into the industrial sector of the city, then turned north toward the Grand Temple. When they reached a gap between a shop and the Temple, Caris made to lift Isolde onto her shoulders. "It's too far to jump," she explained. Isolde hesitated, then relented. Caris lifted her onto her shoulders, backed up a few steps, then darted forward and jumped straight up, lifting them into the air. Caris levitated up to the roof of the Temple, then set Isolde gently on her feet. "We're close now. We just need to find a place where we can cross over into the Palace courtyard."

They ducked into the alley way and stared up the wall. Climbing wasn't something that Des did often but that didn't mean she was bad at it although her dress was very restricting so making a mental apology to Rolian she tore it the whole skirt part off and busted the seems on her elbows. Thankfully she had worn long undergarments. Vit on the other hand looked a bit sceptical but since he was in a suit he only had to remove his jacket. He had never really been the athletic type preferring to stick to his books although being from Adantas they had a thing about having a monthly carnival (over a couple of days) that required everyone to participate and there was one activity that Vit did enjoy which was the Adoi - A kind of obstacle that required the contestants to climb up through a tunnel lined with protruding objects - although he only ever got 19th place that was a decent score considering there was around 200 18 year olds participating. Of course this was slightly different as it was a straight vertical wall.
"Well come on then!" Des chimed, already a meter up. Taking a deep breath he made his advance.

At the top Des was there waiting and as he reached the edge gave a helping hand. A couple of rooftops ahead were the two girls. It wasn't hard to see them and Des supposed there wasn't any point in bothering to stay sneaky so once Vit was all good they made off after them. The two ahead of them had reached a gap between a shop and the Temple and Des smiled that they had nowhere to go, she would like to see what they did now. They were only a building behind them now and Des was about to call out when they did the strangest thing. The Jothan girl took the Djel girl on her shoulders took a couple of running steps before leaping straight up and basically flew across the gap. The young Adantasians stopped dead in their tracks both jaws down dropped down and their eyes bulging at the spectacle they had just witnessed.
"The heck was that? Did you see that?" babbled Des, clearly disbelieving her own eyes. Vit just stood their mouth agape silent. Leaving Vit in his shocked daze Des raced over to the gap and watched as they landed gently and the Jothan dismounted the other girl. They were talking and didn't seem to notice them.
"Hey!" she called out to them. They turned around and saw her. Grins spread across their faces.

Isolde became noticeably quicker at finding her footing as they moved. Apparently this kind of activity came naturally to her. When Caris asked her to sit on her shoulders she had to bite back a fair number of bawdy jokes, chewing the corner of her lip before agreeing with a quick flash of a smile.

"Hello!" Isolde waved cheerfully at the huge creatures on the far rooftop. They had apparently followed, "It would seem the jump isn't all that hard." she gave a sidelong glance at Caris, "For some."

She really, really, really wanted to add 'You can do it, you're a winner!', but Isolde was pretty certain that could be interpreted as an attempt to get her opponents to throw themselves off a roof. People in this kind of competition might actually be tempted to do it, if only to show they were best (which would be a terrible waste if also slightly funny). Isolde was under no such illusions; she would break her neck if she tried that jump, "Take it if you think its safe." she said instead, "God forbid that contestants get killed before entering our gladiatorial arena of death. The irony would be too much for me to bear."

While she was waiting for them to make up their minds she turned to Caris, her hand darting up to check her hair, "By the by, what did you just do there? It was rather impressive. Was that magic? Apparently it works in some parts of Veiland but no Djel can practice it. Apparently we're the most mundane things in existence, and that includes socks."

Caris jumped a little when Deslana called out, then turned and waved theatrically. "Hello, my friends! How is your evening progressing?" she called back, mimicking Isolde's more cultured accent.

Caris turned back to Isolde as she spoke. "Yes indeedy. Not the most advanced spell, perhaps, but still useful," A thought occured to Caris. "I haven't told you my name yet, have I?"

Kiren crouched on the roof of the train station, watching, waiting. He planned to gain a slight advantage over the other opponents; Being first to see new arrivals meant he was also first to judge their abilities.

Their high and mighty attitude was getting on Des' nerves. Did they really think they were so much better because they could get over a gap? No she needed to show them that what they could do she could do better! She marched back to Vit who was still standing there gob-smacked.
"Oh wipe that stupid look off your face will ya? It wasn't that amazing." She grabbed and pulled him to the edge.
"Alright. I've got a plan but you have to trust me." Then leaning in she whispered her plan.
"Got it?" Vits eyes seemed to double in size.
"Are you crazy. I could get killed!"
"Oh come on this is why were here anyway."
Vit didn't think it was a terrible plan but it was just terrifying. She planned on throwing him and because of the extra push and their length he was long enough to make it easily.
"Fine but if I die I'm haunting you for the rest of your life."
"Chill out mine might not be much longer. Right. Ready?"
"No but lets do it anyway."
They took a few steps back and Vit had started tapping his fingers together, to everyone including Des it looked just like nerves but what he was really doing was getting ready to throw some air energy to help with with the extra lift. So both breathing deeply they counted in unison,
"1...
2...
3!"
They both sprinted forwards and as they reached the edge Des crouched low grabbed his foot in one hand and his torso in the other and propelled him forward. At the same time he completed the incantation and flung his hands backwards releasing the energy. It was more than enough to get him past and he soared easily over the gap landing between the two on the other side and rolling over until he was on his back a couple of meters away. Now it was the other girls turn to look startled.
"Vit get ready!" Des cried as she jogged back a bit and then sprinted forward with all her might. She launched her self off the building and was so close to the edge but it was clear she wasn't going to make it. The Jothan girl had reacted and tried reaching out but she wasn't long enough. Before Vit knew what he was doing he was tapping again and just before Des had started her descent he finished and smashed his hand into the brick. There was a deep vibration as the energy warped through the brick of the building and just as Des was clawing at the air desperately trying to reach the side the energy had reached the side and forced out a meter of bricks. It was just enough for Des to grab onto but they were crumbling quickly thankfully the two other girls were quick and grabbed her shoulders pulling her up.Vit stood up and as fast as he could ran to Des.
"What in the Name of Anthelaina were you doing!? You could have waited!" Vit was starting to go hysterical and Des still in the firm grip of the two was just staring at him, face clearly shocked.
"How did you do that?" she managed to say and then from all the adrenaline running through her grew louder,
"How the hell did you do that? What did you do?!"
Vit face took on a look of pure betrayal. He just saved her life and she's looking at him like a freak. The look on his face broke Des' heart but she was too overwhelmed to say or do anyting. The other two were just sort of looking at each other and then looking back clearly confused.

Isolde shook her head, "No, you haven't. What is your name?"

Then the hysterics broke out. Clearly one of the newcomers had upset the other, although she couldn't really figure out why. He had been magicing (was that a verb?), just like the one with the tail had a few moments before, "I think we established that magic was real a few moments ago." for once she dropped the slightly mocking edge in her voice, sounding earnest rather than sarcastic, "I did suggest only making the jump if you thought it was safe... which it clearly wasn't. What Mr. Magic did was keep you from throwing your life away in a silly act of machismo. Women are supposed to be above that kind of thing!"

"You did something with your hands when you did that didn't you?" Isolde turned her attention entirely to Vit, there was something coquettish about the way she chewed the corner of her lip, glacing away with feigned shyness, "I'd love to see what else you can do. We should talk later."

"Anyway!" she clapped her hands together abruptly, "Are we breaking into this palace or what?"

Caris wasn't paying attention. She was staring at Vit with disbelief, trying to comprehend what he had done. When comprehension dawned, she advanced on Vit in anger, forcing him against the Temple's spire. "What the hell did you do?!" she shouted, punching him. She grabbed him by his shirt and dragged him away from the others.

"What the hell were you thinking?" she whispered to him angrily. "You just used one of the most dangerous magic there is! And judging from that girl's reaction, you aren't exactly a master, are you?"

The Djel girl started speaking but Des wasn't really listening, she was just staring at Vit.
"Adantasian's don't have any magic and my act was to prove my worth. This was a challenge and I accepted. I am grateful for my life but Vit used magic, how he did it I don't know and that is what scares me."
But no-one was listening so she turned her attention to Vit.
"You did something with your hands when you did that didn't you?" she said chewing her lip, "I'd love to see what else you can do. We should talk later."
Vit could feel his cheeks heat up, no girl had ever really taken an interest in him before and this was certainly new. The girl - he think he heard her name as Isolde - had the glow of an aura that showed her keen interest but something else as well. He wanted to heed what he saw but his male testosterone was getting the better of him and he felt a great need to please this girl. But before he had a chance to say anything she turned her attention away and clapped her hand together. In a way that sort of woke VIt from his little trance. He was still to swept away by her but now he was a bit weary since her attention could be changed so swiftly.
"Anyway! Are we breaking into this Palace or what?"
No sooner had the words left her mouth but the Djel was suddenly upon Vit. She punched him and stretching she grabbed him by the shirt and dragged him away. Fiercely she whispered,
"What the hell were you thinking? You just used one of the most dangerous magic there is! And judging from that girl's reaction, you aren't exactly a master, are you?"
He pushed her away easily and his anger at her sudden outburst grew.
"What do you know of my magic? This is ancient Adantasian work I'm the only one who has discovered it, that is why I joined this, to bring back our power. And I have been studying this for years. I have even created my own incantations. That one I just did yes I admit I wasn't sure what happened but in the moment I needed to save Des' life."
At Des' name she appeared and started bombarding both of them,
"Who do you think you are? And Vit what do you mean you've been studying this for year? What the hell is going on here?

OOC: Isolde is the Djel btw

Isolde gave a little sigh and seated herself cross legged while the others argued about 'dangerous kinds of magic', "I wish I had an apple." she commented more to herself than anyone in particular.

The truth was, she couldn't care less who was practicing dangerous magic. From where she was sitting it was a bit like having a 'dangerous' cocktail of vodka and cyanide as opposed to a 'standard' cocktail of vodka and cyanide. The big one with the magic hands was definitely interesting. He was enormous and could do magic... plus there was the fact that he might be trying to kill her in a couple of days time. He was so... dangerous, and Isolde found herself inexorably drawn towards that. The fact that she could be dead within the week also helped set the hormones racing, plus there was the fact he might decide to help keep her alive for a day or two longer, "Don't you think this is a case of cultural relativity?" she suggested unhelpfully, hoping that the argument would end some time soon; She had better things to do than listen to people bicker about magic.

"Do you have any idea what he did?!" Caris was almost yelling now. "He just-" a thought occured to her. She looked at Vit, amazed, then felt her mouth stretch into a grin.

"You just warped giacite! How- What-" she was stuttering, barely able to control her excitement. She grabbed Vit by his collar and gave him a big smooch on the cheek. "You need to show me how you did that! But first things first." She turned back to Isolde. "I do believe we planned to do a little sneakery, did we not?"

One moment the Jothan was on the attack and the next she was talking about warping giacite - whatever the heck that was - and kissing him! Vit was overtly confused and so was Des. They both sort of looked at each other with the same 'they're crazy look'. The girl didn't even bother acknowledging Des and spoke directly to Isolde who had gotten bored and was sitting down.
"But first things first.I do believe we planned to do a little sneakery, did we not?"
Des didn't even bother, she sighed and let the two other girls take control. Vit on the other hand with all this excitement going on was beginning to get infected. And Des could see the familiar glow of excitement emanating from his aura.
"Go on," she said to the girls, "lead away Vit here needs to do something he looks like he's going to explode."
Vit scowled at her and between that moment and before they seemed to have forgiven each other.
