Sir Constanias looked out from the window in his chambers over the grey rainy fife that was his. Tiny compared to how great and glorious it had been, but it had steadily shrunk as chunks had been stolen by the fully corrupt Gauluscian Emperors, and given to petty barons who did practically kissed the ground the heathen emperors walked on. All his life, he had been passed by for promotions and glory because he still was a good man. Despite the seemingly all-consuming culture of evil that surrounded his lands, he still managed to instil honour, courage, loyalty and kindness not only to his family, but his loyal serfs. He didn't really even consider them peasants to be sold as property whenever he pleased, as Gauluscian tyrants did. He practically considered them second family. But he had realized over the past few months that the Gauluscian Emperor, Neronius, was trying to gather his armies to destroy his whole fife, on the trumped-up false charges of treason. But in a way, Constanians was guilty of treason, he realized with a chuckle. He still worshipped his true Christian God, not the fat corrupt emperor who sat on a golden throne while his servants spread terror and destruction, and his people starved as they slaved away in misery. He felt anger boiling within his body, feeling his muscles bulge and tense up. Even though he was getting a little old, nearly at age 53, he still was in perfect shape, and more importantly was a powerful warrior. The whole Gauluscian aristocracy knew that once he rebelled, there would be hell to deal with, as he could fight better than any mercenary or assassin they could hire.

Constanias heard metal feet softly clank into the room, and he recognized them immediately. "Are the men ready, Kendas?" His loyal second-in-command, and best friend, already in some battle armour, saluted and began his report. "The troops are ready my lord; 4,500 swordsmen; 2,400 pikemen; 1,600 longbow-men; 400 knights, and 40 siege weapons, all prepared for the war," Constanians thought over the men he had at his disposal. There were fewer of them then he would have wanted, and that would make things difficult fighting against the massive Gauluscian legions. But the war would turn in their favour. His men were loyal and brave. The legionaries were cowards who didn't care about the Empire. His men were fighting for freedom, for themselves and their descendants, and were trained to be the finest soldiers in Gauluscia. The legionaries only fought for greed, or because they were forced to, and were horribly trained and equipped, sometimes not even knowing how to swing or sword or spear.

"Tell the men to make final preparations. Have the whole army fast and pray, we'll need all the help from the Lord we can get," Constanias ordered calmly, and watched and Kendas bowed and took his leave.
It was time. Time to end this darkness and evil. Time to finally fight back against Neronius and his evil servants.

This was the symbol on many of his flags. It was used to show that he defied evil, his other banner was of the Eagle, to show that he supported justice.

Emperor Neronius sat on the imperial throne, relishing being alone without having his pathetic barons and viziers trying shamelessly to gain influence with him. It was disgraceful really, that an emperor like him should have to mingle daily with inferior scum like that. His thoughts were interrupted by a man entering the room. Well, it was the time for the daily report on the empire. Not even looking at his subject, he coldly commanded "You may present your report now, Count Dymerak."
The man stayed kneeling as he gave the usual blabbering about income, and administrative matters. "However, there has been some interesting developments with Sir Constanias, your Imperial Grandness, " said the baron. Emperor Neronius leaned forward, actually interested. "What are these....developments, of which you speak?" Count Dymerak smiler craftily to himself. He knew the Emperor would be fully paying attention. " It seeems that traitor has been planning a rebellion against you, your Imperial Greatness." He paused just long enough for the Emperor to be gully shocked. " Hive me an army, and i'll destroy him before he can rebel!" "Request granted, take the solders you need and go." Neromius ordered. " Yes your Imperial Greatness, " the count replied, while smirking once his back was Turned.

Well, we would likely start of conducting raids, but over time as Tharbjalð saw how you led we'd come to a mutual understanding and join forces against your enemies. He would probably end up looking up to constan as a father like character and serve him as loyally as his own father. Also note the Ardenhelm army is very skilled as well, they are definitely not your average grunts, nor is he, nor is his vikings. On his raids Tharbjalð will likely bring 130-250 vikings in three-four ships.

Alright, that's awesome, i had already had some Scandinavian influences in future Constaniana that it would get from the native mountain dwellers, the Jarns, who would be like a mix of Scotsmen and Vikings, but this helps the bad-ass Scandinavian factor more. And your Vikings would help with navy battles, since Constanian's rebels aren't master ship-builders. Ohyeah, heres some of the infor sheets for the first few major characters of mine

Full Name(title included, if any):Sir Constanias
Age:52
Height, Weight:6'1", 230 lbs
Homeland(even if you are on the rebel side you would still say Gauluscia):Galuscia
Side(Constanian, Gauluscian):Constanian
Occupation:Rebel Leader, Former knight of the Gauluscian Empire
Bio: Constanias has long been angry against the corrupt gauluscian Empire, but he never had enough men under his command. Now though, he is ready to unleash hell and fight back against Emperies Neronius and his servants. He is a proud father and husband, and a father figure to all he meets. Still in top pyhsical shape, his hair is getting grey and his beard has grown out some, but he can fight better than any Gauluscian general.
Any other info you would like to include that wasn't mentioned above:

Full Name(title included, if any):The Majestic Emperor Neronius
Age:34
Height, Weight:5'11
Homeland(even if you are on the rebel side you would still say Gauluscia):Gaulusica
Side(Constanian, Gauluscian):Gauluscian
Occupation:Evil Emperor of Gauluscia
Bio: Neronius is only another name in a long line of wicked and corrupt emperors who have sat on the imperial throne. however, he is more dangerous than his forerunners, because he is actually a powerful warrior and an able administrator, even if he may act like he has no interest in politics. While he is ruthless and scheming, and much prefers assassinating opponents quietly rather than duel them, but has no difficulty in sword-fighting himself. He has pale skin, medium length black hair, and intense blue eyes.

Count Dymerak smiled evilly to himself as his imperial carriage trundled along the roads with the rest of his legion Neronius had put under his command. "This is too easy," he said under his breath, and chuckled a bit. It really was. He had convinced that fool Neronius that the old man Constanias was planning an uprising. It certainly helped the illusion that Constanias was never really popular with the Emperor, due to his fierce willpower and unwavering faith. So now he would march into Constanias's fife, claim that Constanias's rebels attcked first, and then he would destroy Constanias, sell all of his peasants into slavery, and gain more territory and power within the empire, bringing himcloser to his eventual plan of overthrowing Neronius and taking the whole Empire for himself. He could almost taste the raw power. But now to focus on the current task. He ordered the carriage to stop, and began riding a horse surrounded by Imperial Guards he had bribed into his service. They were very close to a small outer village of Constanias's fife, and it would be the perfect spot to "Be attacked". Dymerak chuckled under his breath again. Suddenly, he heard what sounded like a small twig snapping. He looked into the nearby woods, and saw a small deer grazing. Too scrawny for dinner, he supposed. "Onward men" He shouted, pretending to swell with patriotism. "For the Empire!" too easy
Back in the woods, the young boy came out from behind the tree he was crouched behind. Gaulusicnas were coming. He had to tell Sir Constanias, before the legionaries attacked that innocent village. He began swiftly running through the woods, being careful not to snap any more twigs this time. He knew he could run faster and longer than those fat slow legionaries.

The Constanian Saga: Chapter 1 - The Docks Of Holmstromm

Postby The Republic Of Ardenhelm » Sat Apr 07, 2012 4:30 pm

Year 495 B.C
At the end of the longest pier in Holmstromm, Tharbjalð Trisvjordson stood with a plain face looking out into The Great Fjord, it was early afternoon and the wind was blowing towards the sea. "A fine day for the sail" he murmured as he thought to himself, he was always quiet, pious, and meditative especially before voyages. As his long brown, almost black hair blew with the wind he heard a cry, the telltale cry of a raven he turned and sure enough behind him sat a crow, perched on an old cloaked mans shoulders, another was sailing through the sky not an arrow shot away. As he looked at the man, he could see honest eyes, kind eyes, the eyes of a grandfather or an old friend. The man spoke, now his voice was rather calm but still had the touch of an old man's, yet something cried of unmatched wisdom, "A fine day for sailing it is friend". Tharbjalð looked at the man, trying to seem and act politely though obviously wondering... "who are you sir?" Tharbjalð asked, "Did I not say I am your friend?" retorted the man, after a strange look from Tharbjalð he chuckled kindly but almost mockingly. There was a silence, the other raven landed on the man's left shoulder as the one on his right went into flight. The old man broke the silence "you are about to start a great journey friend", he paused and looked at Tharbjalð admiringly, as only a grandfather could, "you are about to start a great journey, that you may never return from, though if you go you will discover things about yourself you could never have thought we're true, you will be remembered forever or forgotten.." the man trailed off. Tharbjalð looked puzzled and was very much so, he looked at a mountain on the side of the fjord thoughtfully, as soon as he did he heard a crow's call and turned his glance back to the man, yet the man was gone.
"Are we all ready?" broke in the helmsman of Tharbjalð's ship, Hrafn, Tharbjalð looked at him and snapped back to reality, "aye, get everyone aboard"
Within the hour the Three ships departed from The Fjord.

The boy ran through the forest at a good pace, confident that he could outrun the Gauluscian legionaries. But then, he heard the sounds of the forest grow agitated, almost fearful. He knew the forest well, as he had lived here for years after his parents died before Sir Constanias found him one day when he was horse-riding. The orphan's name was Lenipan, and his mother had died in childbirth and his father had been killed when he was only 5 by three drunken legionaries. He had been so scared that night that he ran into the woods to escape the soldiers, and had never come out, perfecting his survival and archery skills. He had been 10 when he had come to the castle, and had quickly bonded with Sir Constanias and his family, especially his son and daughter, with Leonisyis acting like a big brother and Rose being like a mother figure to him.

6 years had passed, he had almost grown into a man, and he knew Sir Constanias had been preparing for war. Suddenly, he found out why the forest was afraid. He heard rumbling hooves. He peered through some branches and saw Imperial Night-Men. His face paled. Night-men were fearsome warriors, clad entirely in black armour, horrible and brutal in battle, they were merciless servants of the Emperor. Once they got to the village they would set it completely ablaze and kill everyone. He could walk faster than legionnaires could charge, but Night-Men were another matter. The night-men were currently walking along slowly, keeping pace with the Imperial who seemed in charge, but they could began riding at full speed at any moment. He began sprinting at full speed, leaping over logs and vines in the way, running furiously to get back to the village and warn them. Leonisyis was in that village, preparing some defences for it, unsuspecting of the coming danger. He felt his blood pumping furiously as he ran. Then he heard what sounded like..angels? Although he couldn't see them, it was though they were singing. Angelsong... The stuff of legends, it could give you special powers depending on what the angels sang, and suddenly he seemed to be running even faster, the trees blurring with the speed he was going at. The song seemed fast, intense, but perfect for a dire situation like this... he burst out of the woods and began heading strait towards the village now in sight.

OOC: Angel-song is just something I thought of to bring in soundtrack, but it can aid in the storyline too. Here's the link for the current angel-song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzvGO1rr7Pk

The Constanian Saga: Chapter 2 - The Great Sea

Postby The Republic Of Ardenhelm » Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:04 am

Though terrible storm and serpents roar Tharbjalð, brave Tharbjalð sailed, though winds howled and waves crashed he kept a steady course. Through night and day the ships sailed on and all the while calling: "oh fair winds, oh fair seas, call my name and blood, I Tharbjalð shall sail on into the western sun"

And for many's a night brave Tharbjalð stood at the bow of his ship, checking the stars and his course, though some stars waned and others grew dark one stood out to him the most; Leiðarstjarna, The North Star said to be the Christian patron saint of Ardenhelm, watching over her forever. Nonetheless, over many nights he stood there thinking, what did that man mean, who was he, why did he come to me? The last question ate at him the most, the others could be asked but would have had no more potency if the last hadn't. Who was he to this old man? Obviously he had a reason for coming to me... "land in sight!!" broke in the helmsman.
Tharbjalð's gaze turned up afar, to a small village on the coast. One of those foul-hearted Gauluscian villages, controlled by evil men under an evil king. Ardenhelm's vikings raided villages yes, but they never harmed a soul who didn't deserve it, besides the only people in this village who would bother putting up a fight would be the evil king's legionaries... They waited at sea, for a day, until early morning the next, there was a heavy fog on the water, a blessing from Odin. Perfect for a surprise raid.

Lenipan ran into the village square, completley out of breath. " Legionaires...night-men..coming, " he blurited out, before sinking to his knees to catch his breath. Leonisyis ran to his side. " Lenipan, how far away are the Emperors men?" Leonisyis asked urgently. " The soldiers were slowly coming upon Henrik gorge when I started running to tell you. " Leonisyis thought for a few moments. "Alright, everyone who's not a soldier needs to get out of here and head to the castle. Meanwhile the warriors and I shall prepare the defences, and Lenipan will run ahead and inform my father of what's happening." Leonisyis calmly ordered.

Dymerak looked around. The sun had set, and night had fallen. He was angry that they were so behind schedule. They still weren't even at the big river pass that they would have crossed if his men weren't so slow. Very well, it wasn't like it would matter if he was a day pr two late in destroying Constanias and taking his land. "Tell the men they can make camp here for the night, " he ordered, sneering somewhat at the grubby sergeant. The soldier nodded and walked off to spread the orders. Dymerak could wait.

Accepted, it'll be cool having Sir Constanias having more than his wife and children involved in the uprising. (Spoiler alert I suppose, Sir Constanias 's wife will be more involved in the upcoming plot.)

Sir Gale was in the market when he saw Lenipan run into the village and report soldiers. He yelled for everyone to get inside or anywhere safe and for soldiers to prepare for battle. Gale ran up to Leonysis and asked, "what is going on?"

Leonisyis looked around the village, watching everyone loading up their things and preparing to either take shelter in their huts or flee to the castle. "it seems Neronius finally guessed father's plans, so according to Lenipan, there are about 700 legionnaires and 20 Imperial Night-men on their way," Maximus informed Sir gale. "Judging by the numbers of the legionnaires I would say it's no more than a mere scouting force, but the presence of the Night-Men disturbs me. Why send 20 soldiers of that level if its just a scouting expedition?" Maximus asked. After a few moments, he continued his explanation. "Lenipan says the soldiers are making camp close to Henrik gorge when he last saw them, so they'll probably try to cross the river Henrik in the morning. We could fight them there, attacking with archers from the shore while the legionnaires were stuck in the fast moving water or climbing across the one narrow bridge over the river. What do you think?" asked Leonisyis.

The Constanian Saga: Chapter 3 - The Sacking Of Fransconia

Postby The Republic Of Ardenhelm » Sun Apr 15, 2012 10:08 am

The battle was a blur, the first two ships landed and men ran off, Tharbjalð's men caught the legionnaires almost completely unprotected, very few had time to get to they're weapons, the fog had moved into the town causing even more panic among the populous. Tharbjalð ran in, hacking down two legionnaires immediately with great ease. Charging a group around a fire he dispatched them before the we're even able to stand. As the last ship landed people we're already fleeing the town, Tharbjalð's men looted and took whatever they pleased, though being careful so as not to harm the civilians.
A group of legionnaires formed a line in what must have been the market square, though it was easily broken and in what must have been 5-10 minutes later, the legion realized the battle was lost, and they to fled.
That night Tharbjalð and his men careened and put new boards on the ships, after which they uprighted them and moored them in 1 foot deep shallows, ready to leave at a moments notice. Other than guards aboard the ships, the men gathered in the town's in a looted the ale stores to celebrate they're victory, there they slept and in the morning they rigged the ships and took to the sea with they're riches and wealth. They're had been no casualties in the battle. Tharbjalð awaited the next village.

Neronius was in a very bad mood. He had just been informed that several days ago Fransconia had been sacked and the whole regiment posted there had either died or sed it as an opportunity for deserting. It was not the loss of thae relativley unimportant town, but the idea of it. He had dispatched Dymerak about a week ago to destroy Constanias's fife, ending what he had supposed would be the last possible threat to the empire for a long time. Now though, he had to deal with an invading force of warriors from..who knows where. The only reports he could get of them were that they were tall, powerful, fearless men that swept the the legionnaires with total ease, like a scythe through ripe wheat. This angered him. If there was one type of army he detested fighting it was a motivated, organized one. It was much easier to sweep aside rowdy untrained peasants, even if they outnumbered his legions 20 to one.
He did not wish to trust this campaign to his incompetent court nobles, instead he would direct the orders for the troops himself from the Imperial Palace, and if necessary go to the front lines himself. He assembled all the reports and charts he had of the area where the invaders had landed, and began planning his strategy. The rest of the empire might have been weak, degenerate, and frail, but Neronius was still a powerful man, politically and physically, and the strange raiders would be in for an intense war with him. He chuckled to himself. It felt goof to be planning something as simple and direct as war, instead of weaving through court intrigues and useless protocol.

Full Name(title included, if any): Halluim Uldriath, former Duke of Bantarith
Age: 42
Height, Weight: 5'10'' 230 lbs
Homeland(even if you are on the rebel side you would still say Gauluscia): Bassyruk
Side(Constanian, Gauluscian): neutral (for now)
Occupation: Exile
Bio: Formerly the rightful Duke of Bantarith, a major territory in Bassyruk, he was unjustly accused of treason by his treacherous brother and wife (who were having an affair as they plotted against him), and sentenced to exile. Now, he has nothing, save a band of loyal soldiers and a small amount of wealth. He ventures to Gauluscia, hoping to enlist himself and his warriors in the service of a Gauluscian noble.
Any other info you would like to include that wasn't mentioned above: Not a lot of info in this, I intend to tell more backstory etc. through the story itself.

As the ship rolled on to unknown shores, Halluim lay down in his makeshift bed, and pondered, as he often did. He always gave the appearance of perseverance, as if he had completely forgotten his previous life, and cared only about tomorrow, and future glory and honor that could be attained. But in his private time he thought about Bantarith, he thought about his loyal servitude to the King, he thought about home. He always had, ever since the day of his exile, and even when facing against a ferocious storm, there was not a time when Bassyruk was not at the back of his mind. Every night, it was the thought of vengeance that allowed him to go to sleep. One of the most prized possessions he brought from Bassyruk was an idol of Geretash, Lord of the Unavenged, whom he prayed to every night. Normally the domain of the Lord of the Unavenged was those who had been murdered, and whose murderer had not been brought to justice. But for an honorable Lhasarak, exile was the same as murder. Once you were exiled, you simply didn't ever see Bassyruk again. An exile seen in the boundaries of Bassyruk is to be immediately killed, without question, and those who do not are brought under trial, as an exile represented the worst of all mortalkind, just barely escaping the death penalty. This was Halluim's fate.

He kept the idol hidden from his men, as it would indicate that he was still focused on the past. But how could he forget? If he had been captured as a prisoner of war, he would be absolutely content with his fate, as even becoming a thrall of the enemy, or dying by their hands, was an honest end. Dalikaan and Vaelka had denied him honesty. In many ways, he was still perplexed about his fate. He had been a good brother to Dalikaan, and Dalikaan seemed to reciprocate. In many ways, he had been jealous of his younger brother. He went off to find glory in the service of the Darsus Guard, the most prestigious military division in Bassyruk. Halluim was stuck with running the Uldriath fief, which he never had much interest in doing. However, it was Dalikaan's envy that caused conflict in the end. Halluim and Vaelka's marriage was not arranged, they were two nobles who seemed to love each other, and politics was irrelevant. That is why her betrayal stung the worst of all. If he was just marrying some glorified wench to get the Uldriath house power, then her affair with Dalikaan, and her conspiracy would have stung less. But that was not the case. Dalikaan presented falsified evidence to prove that Halluim had been planning to lead an army against the King of Bassyruk. As a soldier of the Darsus Guard, Dalikaan's word was credible, as none would doubt the honor of any soldier of that order. The king had known of Halluim's loyalty, but the evidence was undeniable. He could never forget his final, private words with the king.
"My lord, you know that I am a loyal Lhasarak and would never plot against my king."
"I know this, but I also know that you have been proven to be a traitor."
"Dalikaan is a power-hungry liar."
"If that is true, then may Geretash guide you to redemption and may he guide Dalikaan's head to a pole. But I have no choice. You must be banished."
Everything had been taken from Halluim. He had always thought that he would die in battle, leading his troops in the name of the king. And though his homeland had been taken from him, he still planned to die in battle. He had 'nothing save honor and life.'

But that wasn't completely true. He had his men, who were no doubt among the most loyal soldiers in all the world. When he was exiled, most of Halluim's troops had gone to the service of Dalikaan. Those that detested Dalikaan had the option of joining the royal army. But some outright refused to abandon their lord, even in exile. 187 soldiers, many of them officers, swore that they would join Halluim in exile and follow him to the death. And for them, Halluim was more grateful for than anything in the world. The most peculiar of these troops was Farrid, a simple serf who, like the soldiers, saw the injustice done to their lord, and made the oath. Though he had no combat training, the exiled duke saw that he had the heart of a lion, and so one of his favorite passtimes on the ship had been training Farrid in swordplay, and Halluim became close friends with the serf.

Before he was exiled, he was given one month to prepare for his banishment. During this time, Halluim Uldriath had been uncertain where he and his troops would go to enlist in the service of a foreign lord. Bassyruk had very little contact with the Gauluscian Empire, but he had heard tales of the great power of the Imperial Legion, and knew that such a country would have great opportunities to achieve honor and glory. Thus, he had, through great effort, managed to find a traveler who was fluent in the tongue of that faraway land.

After a long trip, the ships had finally found land. They docked at the ports, and Halluim went to search for the port authorities. Upon finding them, he said,
"I wish to have an audience with the Emperor of Gauluscia. Tell me where to find him."

The customs official was stunned for a few moments before regaining his composure. The Emperor was apparently involved in war planning right now, and it could prove bad for him if he angered Neronius, whom of course he had never met. However, The Emperor was a military man, and might welcome foreign soldiers to serve him. "Ummm, right this way, the middle-aged man stammered, walking towards the Imperial Palace. He stopped at the gates, and after persuading the gatekeeper to let Hallium and his soldiers through, though they would be under the constant watch of the Imperial Night-Men in case they tried anything. "This is as far as I go, you may proceed now sir, " the customs official said, before scurrying back to his post.

Halluim and his three most trustworthy officers went into the Imperial Palace as the rest of his men waited outside, under watch by Imperial Night-Men. The exile could tell he was being heavily watched, not only by the guards, but by everyone in the palace that saw him. This new land amazed him, the terrain, the black-armored guards, and most of all, the splendor of the palace. It certainly rivaled anything he had seen in Bassyruk. And, of course, the people of this land were no doubt as surprised by him, a foreigner with foreign dress and looks, walking into the Imperial Palace. But he was allowed through. The guards escorted him through the palace to the emperor, who was in a war room, planning with his top advisers. The guards explained the foreigner's presence to the Emperor, and Halluim and his men respectfully bowed. The emperor asked, "What is your business here, foreigner? Are you an emissary?"
Hallium responded, and his interpreter translated:
"No, your majesty. I represent none save myself and my band of warriors. In my land, I was once Duke of Bantarith. Now I am an exile, and these are my followers. We are brave warriors; I do not know how we compare with Your Majesty's Imperial soldiers, but you will be hard-pressed to find any men with our courage and loyalty. We have not a home, but we intend to make one in this land, as your loyal soldiers, if Your Majesty so desires."

Neronius smiled with satisfaction. The dark gods of conquest certainly seemed to be rewarding him today. "Very well, Halluim," the Emperor boomed in an intentionally over-dramatic voice. "I grant your request. You seem to be a good warrior leading strong men, " Neronius stated, remembering to use cunning diplomacy to make this new commander loyal to him. "I have your first task ready for you." Neronius walked off the throne, stepping down onto a giant map on the floor shwoing the entire Gauluscian Empire. About a week or two ago, primitive barbarians looted and desecrated this town here on the coast, " Neronius explained. "Fransconia." Adding unnecessary emphasis for such a mediocre port town. "Your mission is to take your soldiers and say...1,000 legionairres, down there and defeat the foul invaders. Accomplish this, and I shall reward you greatly. You shall have two weeks to prepare yourself and your army for the march. Do we have a deal?" He asked, a prideful smile forming on his face.
