From the Azuran Broadcasting Network newsroom in Williamstown: David Price, reporting.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
The nation is still reeling from the apparent loss overnight of the country''s oldest remaining air craft carrier in service. Official Federal Military sources have yet to confirm or deny the story, but sources inside the Navy Department claim that contact has been lost with the FAV Daniel Johnston ACC-301, the nation's only surviving air craft carrier from the Azuran-Estorican War Era. Commissioned in 1969 and refitted in 1992, the Daniel Johnston was last seen at sea some two hundred and fifty nautical miles south-southwest of Port Charlotte, on training exercises with the Western Fleet of the Federal Navy. A Navy spokesperson who sought to remain anonymous reported to the Azuran Broadcasting Network that a series of strange series of radio transmissions from the ship were received at EWRS (Early Warning Radar Station) Saegertown at approximately 12:19 AM this morning. Civilian spotters reported a large squadron of F-2 Osprey Fighters being dispatched from Naval Station Oceanside, moving quickly out to sea. We have no firm idea whether or not this was in response to the purported transmission being received by the Early Warning Station, but it would seem to corroborate that something has indeed happened at sea.
The Azuran Broadcasting Network has received telephone calls from the families of those sailors on board confirming that they received telephone calls from the Navy Department, informing them that the air craft carrier was missing at sea. These reports have been complicated by telephone calls from other family members who have yet to receive phone calls, and those who have been told that the air craft carrier has not been lost at sea. The unusual nature of this incident is piquing interest from a variety of sources this morning, and will most certainly be a hot-button issue in Williamstown today.

Okay, I want to bring in Arlen Fowler, our network correspondent at the Federal Command Center in Cape McMahon. Arlen, it's a pleasure to be speaking with you, this morning. Tell me, what have you been able to gather this morning?

Well, David, sources here at the F.C.C. are remaining quiet this morning regarding the potential loss at sea of the Daniel Johnston. For years, she's been the flagship of the Azuran Navy, and is one of the most recognizable military icons in New Azura. Things remain hushed around Cape McMahon this morning, though I can report that some unusual activity has been taking place nearby at the Branch Center of the S.R.S. Corps, the command center for the western sector of New Azura's S.R.S. Corps. I spoke with an official at the Branch Center who wishes to remain anonymous, and he confirmed to me that an entire division of the S.R.S. Corps had been mobilized at an undisclosed location east of Cape McMahon, and were preparing for some sort of tactical operation. Now David, I've been covering the military's actions in Cape McMahon for some fifteen years now, and I have never seen such a tense atmosphere here in the military's working capital.

Arlen, you've spoken several times now on the tense atmosphere surrounding Cape McMahon. Could you elaborate on that, please?

Well, David, there seems to be a general sense of unease here in Cape McMahon today. A normal person would probably chalk that up to the apprehension that these servicemen must be feeling over the potential loss of their brothers in arms. However, this incident is actually a backdrop to a much more distressing turn of events. While no one will speak on the record, several top military officials are missing from Cape McMahon this morning. Now it's possible that they've been summoned to Williamstown by the President to discuss rescue and salvage operations, but I can tell you from past experience that its highly unusual not to receive a memo from the Federal Military regarding such movements. Typically, a lack of clarification from the Military means that something major is up, and they don't want to tip their hand. That only adds to the growing sense of unease and frustration here, especially in light of the report that a ship has been lost at sea.

Arlen, you've probably spent more time around the Federal Armed Forces than anyone else in our newsroom. Tell us, can you get a sense on what may be happening here?

David, when you start to place all the pieces together, a rather disturbing picture starts to emerge. Now I want to stress that this is complete speculation at this point, and that nothing has been declared on or off the record to this reporter. But David, when you start to examine the situation, a few things come to mind. The first thing you have to be cognizant of is that the ship may have been attacked at sea by an unknown group. This could explain the mobilization of an entire division of the S.R.S. Corps, who would likely be the first servicemen to be called up in the event of an attack. However, when you consider the size of the force, it would seem to indicate that there's more at work than the loss of one ship. I can tell you that a company of S.R.S. Corpsmen could be gathering the intelligence needed in the event of an attack on one of our ships, and the mobilization of an entire division would raise far too many eyebrows - as it has already today - for the S.R.S. Corps to carry out its primary function, which is to always move covertly in all operations. It's possible that we may be looking at a case of terrorism, that rogue forces may have targeted this ship, but again that wouldn't explain for the large size of forces that the S.R.S. Corps is throwing into the situation. David, when you start to talk about mobilization, you generally aren't left out in the wind like we have been here today. The situation has snowballed rapidly in the early hours of the morning, and what was a limited incident seems to be growing in size by the minute.

President Karvounis stared out through the window of his office, watching the Williamstown's traffic and flow. The hustle and bustle of the nation's capital was unabated, despite the unease that had begun to grip the nation. As always, the news media could be thanked for instigating the panic. A missing fire hydrant from Nor'Calais could cause the news media to incite the public into a frenzy. Of course, it didn't help matters that the media was tap-dancing around an issue that really was important.

"Sir," a loud voice proclaimed behind him, "Consul General DeWitt is on Line #1, sir."

Karvounis turned to face the orderly, nodding even as he moved towards his desk. "Thank you, Lieutenant."

It had been several days since the President had spoken to his most trusted adviser and friend. DeWitt had been largely absent from the capital, working instead on commencing the build-up of LOTUS, the New Azuran-founded military alliance that had taken roots rather quickly. Though the absence of his adviser was but for a period, President Karvounis couldn't help but feel... discomforted by the past few days. The President picked up the receiver, cradling it to his ear as he leaned back in his plush desk chair.

"Consul General DeWitt, it's good to speak with you again."

The General responded in kind. "And with you, Mr. President. How's the weather in Williamstown?"

"The same as always, General," the President responded kindheartedly. The two had been starting their conversations like this for years. "Tell me you have some good news, General."

There was a sign on the other end of the phone, and the President began to brace himself for the worst. "Mr. President, I haven't received any memo from Cape McMahon about the movement of my command staff. And I still haven't been able to trace who gave the order to mobilize the S.R.S. Corps Division in Fernbrook."

President Karvounis could feel a sweltering rage build up inside him. "Not good enough, damn it, not good enough! First we lose contact with our Navy's flagship carrier, then someone under your command structure starts mobilizing our forces without authorization! Your troops are playing a dangerous game here, General."

"Mr. President," the General confided, "I think you should consider alerting the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice about the situation. It's apparent that someone is leveraging control of the military away from us. And I don't think they're doing it for kicks, Mr. President."

"God help us, General," the President stammered. "Are you saying a coup is underway?"

"I don't know, sir." General DeWitt's voice carried just enough of a trace of nervousness to send another shock down the President's spine. "But if I were you, I would highly recommend you leave Williamstown, soon. The division that our splinter cell mobilized in the S.R.S. Corps is a large part of our Valkyrie Directive. Couple that with a rogue air craft carrier having mutinied against us, and I don't like the way things are going. This all has happened so fast."

"General, do what you can from your end at LOTUS Headquarters. I'm going to contact Parliament now about the situation, and I'll move on to our pre-arranged meeting point later this evening... 1900 by my mark."

The General agreed quickly. "Very well, sir. I'll begin alerting LOTUS commanders of the situation immediately, sir."

"Good day, General." The President slowly let the phone slip from his side, using his almost-numb hand to place it back on the hook. Things had been going south ever since Sea Marshall Velez had reported on the mutiny aboard the Daniel Johnston. But what had started out as a localized event had taken a deadly serious turn. For a moment, the President gave thought to his liquor cabinet, but disavowed it quite quickly. Now wasn't the best of times to tie one on. Even as he thought it, a small commotion outside his office roused him from the thought.

What the Hell?

The President pressed on his COM button, wondering with trepidation what was happening outside. "Hello? Is anyone there?" For a second, the President awaited for his orderly to respond... yet no one was there. The President repeatedly pressed on the button, yet no response was evident.

Oh, God...

The thought came to him in an instant, and it was all it took for him not to completely shut down. Karvounis sprang from his chair, dashing around the corner of his desk to reach the office door in time. The twenty-foot distance seemed to stretch out over a country mile as he dove for the lock.

Coming, they're coming!

He wasn't fast enough. With a thundering explosion, his office door splintered off its hinges, allowing a noxious, malodorous smoke to seep through the open space where the door had been standing just moments before. The President shuddered from the spray of wood across his face, grimacing at the slivers of wood that had found their way into his face. With a strength he didn't know he possessed, President Karvounis stammered to his feet, making a dash for the red line. He had to warn Consul General DeWitt before it was too late. His hand found the receiver, throwing the phone up in the vague direction of his face, when a percussion cap echoed throughout the room. The President went to speak, but found himself unable to do so. His vision doubled, suddenly, sending him spiraling to the floor. The warm blood spraying from his throat told the tale well enough, though the shock of being shot kept him from passing out so suddenly. Through the growing darkness, the President searched for his assassin, trying desperately to finger his killer. He turned his head to the right, catching a scent of his own blood, when he saw them: a group of soldiers, their carbines at the ready. Wearing matching uniforms. S.R.S. uniforms...

My God, they were ours...

The President struggled to speak, but darkness stole his hopes, and he thought no more. The soldiers of the S.R.S. Corps moved into the office, executing their rogue mission with tactical precision. A pair of medics knelt before the fallen President, checking for his vitals. They were there, but thready and weak. The two set to work stopping the President from bleeding out, as a command officer stepped out from the ranks.

"Patch him up, and make sure he doesn't die. We need him to go on trial."

President Richardson had a lot to go through the past week. With ememies, both political and military, surrounding him, with 3 wars already been waged, with the threat of nuclear war hanging over everybody's head due to the recent crisis, he started to lack the luxury of a good night sleep.
Now, the only thing that concerned him was the present though, as he didn't have the luxury of time either.

"So, what is it you're telling me exactly Vice?
"Well Dick, we have been monitoring the situation for a while now and we have to admit that it is a little suspicious.", replyed Vice-President Bird at once.
"Well. we can't base our decisions on speculations, can we now?
"No sir, but with the recent problems in New Azura, i wouldn't be suprised if we were talking about a power struggle or.."
" A coup", shouted Richardson before Bird had even finished his sentance." Is that what you're saying to me? Because if so, then we must act at once. New Azura is a powerful nation, and if we help them, they might prove powerful allies as well."
" So what do you propose?"
"We must first make sure that it is actually a coup been staged here. Contact President Karvounis at once."

The VP raised the phone and asked the Secretary outside the President's office to make contact with Karnouvis. After a few moments he put the phone back down and looked the President with a worrying look.
" We seem to be unable to make contact"
The looked each other for a few moments and then the President looked outside the window and wispered: "its happening now"
"Oh my god!"
"Call an emergency cabinet meeting and alert the Generals. We must response at once."

Some shocking news out of Cape McMahon this hour.
Hello, everyone. David Price, reporting from the ABN Newsroom in Williamstown. This morning, widespread desertions have been reported on all fronts of the Federal Military. Federal Troops have moved on the country's nuclear missile silos for reasons yet to be determined, while hundreds of thousands of troops have taken to the streets, using artillery and armored vehicles to lay siege to various military installations. We can't be for certain what kind of message the Government is attempting to send here, but we're either witnessing a Federal crackdown on a massive scale... or perhaps we're witnessing the birth pangs of a revolution. One thing is for sure, ladies and gentlemen; the world is going to be a far-different place tonight than the one we woke up to this morning.
We have Arlen Fowler back in Cape McMahon now. Arlen, what's happening over there?

David, the Army has laid siege to Cape McMahon! I never thought I would see this day, but my eyes do not deceive me: Federal Troops wielding guns and artillery have basically shut this city down, and have diverted the flow of traffic away from Cape McMahon. For whatever reason, the troops didn't even seem to notice that we were here, instead bypassing us instantly and moving ahead of us down the street. I've seen pockets of soldiers here or there running in various directions, carrying our national flag upside down. I can only surmise that they're deserters, because the armed forces moving around the city are carrying their flags upright. It would seem as though we're in the midst of a military coup here, David-

I must make myself clear right now: I had no part in his military coup, nor will I have a part.
