The Tagmatika Conference (Closed; ATTN TLIN Members)

Postby Tagmatium » Sun Jun 26, 2011 4:12 pm

Crowds lined St Konstantine’s Square. Along one of the edges of the Square sat the frontage of the vast Imperial Palace Complex, the heart of the Imperial Government. It was a fine summer’s day and something of an informal national holiday was taking place. Many of the ordinary people of the Tagmatine capital had taken the day off in order to watch the public side of the diplomatic conference. They had gathered there partly out of patriotic fervour, partly out of curiosity. Most of the nations that were attending what was becoming known as the Tagmatika Conference were hitherto only known to them through television broadcasts and newspapers. The only nation that they did know, Machina Haruspex, had previously been an enemy of the Greater Holy Empire.

The Imperial Government was taking few precautions over security. The streets were lined by discrete pockets of policemen in their black clothes and black armour. No trouble was expected from the crowd, studded as they were by members of the Internal Intelligence Inspectorate. Nothing was expected to happen by the security forces, but after the events of Karthay Island, no corners were going to be cut. This was considered something of a diplomatic success, an opportunity to show off the dignity of the Greater Holy Empire. If nothing else, it was hoped to be more of a success than the last meeting of the member nations of the League but there were many serious matters to be discussed, such as the future of the ongoing war against the United Front Alliance. Undoubtedly, other topics were going to be talked about and every nation had an agenda of sorts that would be pursued by the delegates.

The crowds waved the little flags they had been issued at the expense of the Imperial Treasury. The flags, along with the bunting that had been strung up around St Konstantine’s Square and the roads leading to it, depicted the member nations of the League of Imperial Nations’ banners with varying degrees of success, some more accurate than others.

In recognition of these events, the majority of the Holy Emperor’s bodyguard was in the centre of the square in a show of imperial splendour. Sun glinted off black-painted plate-mail and lamellar and picked out the red uniforms as the formations gave a half-bow to each delegation. Alongside whatever guards had been taken along with them, each group had been given an escort from the prestigious 3rd Skoutatos Kometion, Paramonai. With dignified ceremony the Imperial Guard accompaniment swapped for those from the Imperial Household Bodyguard. They then were taken towards the entrance to the Imperial Palace Complex and were met at the foot of the steps up to the doors by the High Chancellor, Gregorios Traiektonos and the Minister for Alliance Affairs, Justin Traskalissaeos.

Protocol had caused some problems for those planning the event at this stage. Tagmatium didn’t truly recognise the equality of the other nations within the League of Imperial Nations. Ordinarily, there would be an attempt to rub their noses in it at this stage. The high-ranking representative might have met the foreign delegates at the top of the steps or whilst standing on a small stage, demonstrating the superiority of the Greater Holy Empire over the other nations of the world. However, the planning body had been told that this would undoubtedly inflame the ire of the barbarian nations, and the Imperial Government wished for this meeting to go as smoothly as possible.

To that end, both the High Chancellor and Minister Traskalissaeos met the delegates at the foot of the steps. The band of the IHHG struck up as the delegates got closer, playing the beginning of the national anthem of the Greater Holy Empire, followed by the appropriate one of the approaching delegates. Patriarch Kosmas of the Iconoclastic Orthodox Church was also present, bedecked in full ceremonial regalia, a break from the austere suits that marked out the Tagmatine politicians. Traditionally, a blessing would be performed by the Patriarch, but this was forgone in fear of offending the sensibilities of the foreign diplomats. It was assumed that the delegates from Imperial Atheist Theocracy would be the most likely to be offended. Internal politics demanded, however, that the head of the church was present, lest it be read as a snub towards the powerful religious body.

Once the delegates had been greeted, they were guided an Under-minister from the Ministry of Alliance Affairs through ancient passageways. Items of particular historic interest were pointed out along the way, but they weren’t stopped and appreciated. The delegates were promised a proper guided tour, if they so wished, once business had been completed. As always, members of the Imperial Household Guard were stationed at intervals along the corridors, snapping to attention as the delegation passed. The delegations were taken to a large meeting room within the bowels of the Imperial Palace Complex, deep enough and fitted out so that it was far away from any potential prying ears. Their entourages, or at least those not considered important enough to attend the meeting itself, were shown to a series of waiting rooms.

The meeting room was dominated by a large wooden table, with a mosaic depicting a battle scene covering the floor. The tiled walls were covered by ancient, but well-kept, tapestries with a wide variety of designs and subjects. Groups of chairs were set aside for each group of delegates, their places marked by name plates and little flags, this time entirely accurate. Opposite it each chair, set in to the table, was a flat screen monitor, in case any point needed to be demonstrated by illustrations.

At the head of the table sat the Holy Emperor of Tagmatium, Kommodos James. Like the rest of the Tagmatine delegation, he was dressed in a plain, if expensive, business suit, although he had a deep Imperial purple tie. There was none of the Imperial regalia on show; this was above all a meeting of business and the Holy Emperor didn’t take much stock in the elaborate courtly displays of previous incumbents of the throne of Tagmatium. His chair, however, was different. It was the ancient Leopard Throne, wrought of precious metals and fashioned with the images of leopards and upholstered with the skins of those animals. It had been moved from the throne room for this occasion.

As the last of the delegates were ushered in, the High Chancellor and the Minister of Alliance Affairs came in and sat respectively on the right and the left of the Holy Emperor. They were also joined by the Ministers of War, Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Greater Holy Empire expected a wide range of topics were to be discussed at this meeting, as well as the Imperial Secretary.

When the shuffles of delegates getting seated and comfortable died away, the Holy Emperor spoke.

“Your majesties, your excellencies; ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the Greater Holy Empire and to the second meeting of the League of Imperial Nations. As I don’t doubt you are aware, the first meeting wasn’t a success.” The Holy Emperor gave an icy smile to the delegates.

“This is a most momentous occasion for all of us involved, not just Tagmatium as hosts of this event. I don’t doubt that this will go down in history as the beginning of a closer relationship between our varied countries. For some nations here, this is the first time that we have come together. Others, this is the first time I have had the pleasure to meet a representative of that nation in person, even though we have had much contact within the League of Imperial Nations. Yet others, a lot of our recent business was done if not at the barrel of a gun, but certainly with the threat of the barrel of a gun.” The Holy Emperor looked at the delegates from Machina Haruspex with a thin smile. He shifted his position, leaning forward on the throne and steepling his fingers.

“However, I don’t doubt that this meeting will be everything that the other was not. We have much to discuss and some of it fairly urgent. As you all are aware, the League is currently involved in a conflict with another group, the United Front Alliance. We shall need to discuss this and our reaction, as a united organisation, to it.”

“I do not want that to be the sole focus, though. I know that some nations here are, as yet, uninvolved and I don’t doubt that there might be feelings of trepidation in being dragged into a war just because allied nations are at war. These feelings are understandable and I would hesitate to label them as cowardice, for it is not.”

As the Holy Emperor spoke, his eyes roved to take in all of the delegates. All were unfamiliar to him. Opportunities for diplomatic visits were thin on the ground. Videos and photographs were a poor second when attempting to get the measure of someone. Only the Haru delegates were truly known to him.

“Beyond this war, I believe that we need to address the lack of any real, broader cooperation between member nations. For at the moment, the League nations lack any true coherency in their policies. We are, and in some regards this is due to more ingrained differences, a disparate organisation. ‘Imperial’, in the context of the League’s name is a vague term, one that can mean many different things.

“The League can be viewed in several ways. On the one hand, we could appear to be a grouping of disparate nations, their focus elsewhere. The grouping then comes together just for the look of the thing, to assure itself that it is still relevant. On the other, we are a sleeping giant. I want to waken that giant.”

OOC: If we could keep all OOC chatter elsewhere, I’d be grateful.

Imperial Palace Complex
The Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium

Years of exposure to the Imperial Court back home, in addition to innumerable classes on etiquette, proper decorum and the other core tenants of nobility had served her well, thought Amanda with a bittersweet tinge. Though she had deplored the boring classes, as well as the facade of civility that was associated with courtly manners, there was no denying the fact that both had proved to be immensely useful in her life thus far. It was these skills that she drew on while walking down the long, long corridor to the meeting hall; feigning genuine interest in the Tagmatine historical curios as they were pointed out, while simultaneously projecting a false aura of awe and amazement.

As the First Daughter and Crown Princess of the Tergnitzian Imperial Family, Amanda was of course shadowed at all times by members of the Imperial Praetorian Guard. At this precise moment, she subconsciously knew that two silens sanctimonialis, elite members of the Guard’s all-female Company tasked with her protection, where only an arm’s reach away. Conventional wisdom suggested that the presence of the two guards was unnecessary within the territory of one of the Dominion’s key allies, even more so in the nation’s heart of government and power. Yet, the tense situation unfolding in Judea had pushed the Emperor into one of his paranoid phases. This had resulted in him mandating that all members of the Imperial Family were to be surrounded by an appropriate amount of protection no matter the circumstances. Amanda sighed softly at her father’s suspicion as she approached the main doors to the meeting hall, knowing that he meant well.

The main doors to the hall opened to reveal a fairly aesthetically pleasing room, if she was being honest with herself. It was the minute details that caught her attention first, and they were the ones she was most impressed with. Small finishing touches, such as having small, correctly proportioned flags in front of each seat, in addition to name plagues will the accurate titles of the arriving League delegates; these were the details that stood out to her. She casually walked to her assigned seat near the head of the table, while the two silens sanctimonialis stoically faded into the background behind her. Within several minutes of the arrival of the delegates, the Tagmatine Emperor entered the room, which caused Amanda to raise an eyebrow; this was not the man she had been expecting. The Emperor’s casual demeanour and plain business attire clashed with his supposed role as the imperial ruler of these lands, in her opinion.

If he had wished to present himself to the delegates on an equal footing, why had he bothered to have his monstrosity of throne moved to the meeting room, thought Amanda quizzically. These two facts, used in conjunction with one another helped her form an opinion of the Tagmatine Emperor, before the man had even opened his mouth. Despite all of the outwardly symbols of imperial grandeur, the Tagmatine Emperor, by his actions, had shown the inferiority of his people when compared to father and the Imperial Court back home, thought Amanda.

Despite the obvious differences between her father and the Tagmatine Emperor, she could not help noticing several similarities as the Emperor continued his grandiloquent introductory speech. She had adopted the same expressions that she had projected during the small tour of the palace, giving the outwardly appearance of listening attentively while her mind wandered. Within several minutes, the Emperor concluded his speech and opened the floor up to the rest of the delegates. Amanda felt content to simply wait and see what the other League delegates had to say, recalling the ancient Azuran proverb, “Silence is as deep as eternity; speech, shallow as time.”

"We are here."

Stepping his right foot on the main entrance of the designated hotel's main lobby, Pål Hjalmar Arthursson, Ambassador representing the Kingdom of Yohannes to Tagmatium, observed his surrounding. It was good to be back, he thought to himself. Beatiful and exquisite ornaments, trees and crafted piece of wooden arts; tables, chairs and its likelihood, amazed Arthursson beyond recognition. It seems only yesterday that the Tagmatians were in a state of war with his represented Government, and yet here today he was about to amend the past Government's mistake, and perhaps; even offer some form of tributes, towards the Tagmatian delegate.

The step on his foot was firm and steady, and his eyes wondered at the gleaming porcelain floor. At his back, waiting anxiously, was none other than his Vice-Ambassador, Katrina Astrid Herbertson. Detecting the ambassador's wish upon his slow nod, the Vice-Ambassador called upon her secretary to attend to the receptionist's inquiries as to the arrival of this foreign delegation.

And then she made her way to the luxurious-looking sofa, and sat beside the ambassador.

"Arthursson, i presume you are still unsure as to the right and proper way in which to greet the Tagmatian delegate..?", looking inquiringly at the ambassador's face, even she herself could not read what's in his mind.

The secretary was back, and handed the keys to both her and the ambassador. Well that was quick, she thought to herself surprisingly.

"Well, i shall get going and read the proper procedure. I hope that by tomorrow, we will have everything ready to present towards whoever it is has been chosen as the Tagmatian Government's representative".

Arthursson nodded slowly, for even he himself has not known of what to promise as the day's end came.

Such a land was not unlike that of the Xukuthites own, so resplendant and reliant upon history. The fervour of the people added to the symphony that this particular land created, and thus it was that both Hiendor and Siefa were enjoying themselves, quite a bit. The main difference of course was that of the architecture, the Tagmatium people seemed to stem from more then a bit of the Roman archtype. Not only in their buildings but in the customs, an unexpected treasure one could say.

As the emperor gave the welcoming speech, complete with what appeared to be a ribbing towards the Haru delegates, Hiendor chose a spot near the right most edge of the table. As before, in the previous meeting that had gone disasterously, the so named Duke wore a beautifully tailored suit in amazingly light, luxurious wool & mohair. The style known as Collezioni, it was a black striped wool-silk 3-button front with notched lapel and decorative three buttons at cuff with flat front pants, followed up by a pair of asphalt perforated leather cap-toe oxfords. A charcoal brown pinstriped 'La Thonte' fedora rested atop head for a moment before he gingerly removed it and handed it to one of his entourage.

Said entourage included the Viscounts of Fiance, War, and Foreign Services. Lingering just out of sight for the moment was that of the Viscount of the Dominion Vel'xundussa Fashkan (Dominion Security Forces - DVF), that is until Hiendor bade the seemingly young woman to sit at the table alongside the others. She did so, and it would appear that the Xukuthites favored fashion over the traditional huss and fuss of military uniforms and medals.

More then evident as coming into view was that of the Duchess Seifa, she offered a slight courtesy to the Emperor as the Duke did offer a nod of head in acknowledgement as well. Seifa wore a black pleated silk strapless gown, straight, strapless neck with interior boning. Accenting the woman's frame, the gown had overlapping pleats at bust and skirt. A thin silver necklace draped alongst collarbone, small hoop earings and light makeup furthered her appearance.

Much as the previous meeting, they allowed the illusion of what they appeared as, to be the shield of what they truely were. Taking her duke's outstretched hand, they both settled at the table. Her keen eyes upon the throne, delightfully inspecting it, truely a grand piece. Hiendor spoke then, breaking her focus from such a thing. " We are as ever interested in creating a bond, that will bind us before the red moon, and the coming ash. It is only through such gatherings as this, that such can happen. We feel that the League must be one with it's roots, bound together in common goal and design. Such a thing as this, will cater to such in the dawn of the future. "

It's not that we do not love you as a people, we love how your people taste, how they bleed. It's just that you are not our equals and never will be.

Prime Minister Stephanie Black, the leader politically and ideologically of the Republic of Mourro, sat with fascination and was very much attracted to the purple tie worn by Tagmatium's Holy Emperor, much due to the fact that she herself also wore a mauve suit and the finest amethyst tear drop-shaped earrings.

She listened carefully, scrupulously, to the welcoming speech. It was the Prime Minister's first time to participate in an international conference, and her first encounter with the nation of Tagmatium. She could be forgiven for knowing very little about Tagmatium, as her foreign minister Rena Terra too had not even been able to establish an embassy programme with the Empire yet. The Quadros had basically scrambled together what they could muster of the information available on Tagmatium at such short notice. She knew the international hard facts and understood the gist of the nature of their alliance, but other than that she was blind as to what the results of this conference would be.

Upon hearing of a previous failure for nations to harmonize at the last conference, the Prime Minister had her personal doubts and skepticism. The Emperor's talk of conflict and civil war also sent unsure shivers down her spine. Mourro itself had only just recovered from last year's horrors between the Rodron and Faynaran provinces, and she did not believe that the Mourron army were yet prepared to indulge in any more warfare, not least because now the Purple Party has dramatically reduced the number of Mourron troops in active service.

She enjoyed the personification of this alliance as a 'sleeping giant', and knew that the Emperor had vision similar to her forefathers of the Black Family. She wondered, however, how influential the religious powers in Tagmatium were. The Purple Party had kept its own nose strictly out of religion and granted the church less political swing than a convicted terrorist. In Mourro, religion was to be a cultural indulgence at best.

The Prime Minister looked around at the other leaders of the alliance. She wondered when the opportunity would arise to ask questions and get some clarity on the purpose of this day...

The thin smile given by Emperor Kommodos in regards to some dubious political manueveourings brought a smirk into play for a moment, though it faded, as all emotions seemed to do upon the faces of the Haru, if one were to see them. For the now, they tolerated their southern neighbors antics, allowing them peace of mind, while they were invested elsewhere.

To get the under the skin of the Tagmatium Emperor however, was not the concern of this meeting. That pleasure could be saved for another time, when things were not hectic. Formerly a general, and that was her rank when she had made a terse visit to Tagmatium years ago, had risen in status. A Fleetlord now, she was also of the Haru Emperors bloodline and house, and thus carried his will for this affair. Amongst Kaorin however, were other movers and shakers of the Imperium. Count Nimaz Vek Sargtlin, Duchess Kiana Ki'Zun, Fleetlord Tiyu Be'la Kyorl of the First Order, and General Horus Ni'Renor Vlos of the Colonial Legionary, of whom notably had dispatched the Haruspex forces to Karthay just recently and the rather forward plan of para-trooping onto Karthay itself to secure advancement positions. Assisting was that of the High Inquisitor Aria Ki'Zun and Lady Mai Elemmiire.

Kaorin herself didnt like formal get togethers, it wasnt her style, however the emperor had been most insistent on maintaining a professional but informal appearance and presentation. So she was at the moment, wearing a sleek and hand tailored black wool pant suit with two-button jacket. With the traditional tattooing upon her neck and collarbone, there wasnt a reason to wear jewelry of the sort. Jaded view broadcast by those dark green eyes, black hair teasing against shoulder, not pulled back as customary. She took a seat near the middle, followed by the fashionably tailored in a pinstripe suit Tiyu and Nimaz.

Similiar fashions, Tiyu in a two button, and Nimaz in a three button, but probably from the same tailor. Nothing wrong with such of course. Duchess Kiana on the other hand, stood a little more, with the vibrant red twill chiffon draped halter dress that accented the woman's slender frame. The frostbitten hue of flesh tone muted, long black hair straight and fine. Much like Kaorin she to bore the inking, but unlike her counter-part, wore several pieces of silver jewelry in archaic Haruspex hieroglyphs.

To her right was Kaorin, to her left the High Inquisitor Aria, who also had decided to be a bit more provocative in stylings. That dark haired viper wore a piping detailing halter dress with cutout back and straight neck with silvertone piping detailed halter with cords down afore mentioned back. Mai was sliding into the seat next to Aria, and must have been dressed in the same place. Mai wore an evening dress with a deep v-neck with wide shoulder straps at the front, thin shoulder straps and adjustable ties that led to a cut-out back. The slightly blonde haired Mai was the offset at least in that sense of hair colouring.

Rounding it out, General Horus Ni'Renor Vlos of the Colonial Legionary presented the tried and true military look. He wore the legionary officer uniform, recently polished jackboots and until moments ago, the leather trenchcoat that protected one from the abyssmal weather in the colonial territories or in the outer provinces of the homelands. The uniform was of a dark grey in hue, with black edging provided by belt, gloves, and boots. A fresh shave, his colonge could remind one of the sea. He was shaven of head, with deep sea-green eyes. Once settled, he removed the gloves from either hand in a well practiced motion, while before him lay the table.

Kaorin rose up for a moment. We are honoured to be here, at the disposal of the league. While we know some, others are new to us, and we do hope to learn more about those fresh faces present, while keeping to the matters at hand. As always, a pleasure to be within Tagmatium Emperor Kommodos. She didnt smile though nor give any sort of jabbing-ribbing back to the Tagmatium noble, blank depth of jade before she settled once more into the seat she'd chosen earlier.

Postby The Batorys » Sat Jul 02, 2011 7:10 pm

As men and women killed and died on Karthay in the aftermath of the conference doomed by the United Front Alliance's treachery, Vereba eyed the crowds in Tagmatium, at this new conference of the League, far away from the bloodshed and death. The sight of her family's banner among the small flags in the throngs amused her. How much did these Tagmatines (OOC: sorry if that's not the right word) know of the Empire? And observing their culture, what would they think if they knew more? Probably nothing good, the moroii thought. Her mood was better than it had been at the abortive conference on the island, as Tagmatium was an ally, and she felt, a dependable one. Although, their insistence upon superiority was irksome, but then, was she not guilty of the same? The Tagmatines thought of her family and their subjects as barbarians, something the Batorys did not in turn dispute. However, their stance, which Vereba upheld, was that yes, they were barbarians, but they were still more civilized than everyone else.

Interestingly enough, the High Chancellor and Minister Traskalissaeos appeared to be toning that attitude down by meeting the various delegates at the bottom of the stairs. Amusingly, the head of their church, one Patriarch Kosmas was also there, standing out due to manner of dress. Vereba looked at him and smirked slightly. For a Batory Empress, she wasn't notably anti-Christian, but her career before ruling the Empire had been leading a faith that seemed to be ideologically in opposition to that of Kosmas, having been the High Priestess of Ithtyr, the Batory goddess of the Earth, lust, vengeance, moroii, and death. However, unlike Kosmas, she did not wear the garments of that station, as Ithtyr's priestesses did not wear clothing. Though Vereba's suggestive attire might still irritate some. Part of her smirk was due to the fact that Kosmas seemed to be mostly mute by self-imposition in this meeting, while Vereba most certainly would not be. Petty, certainly, but still satisfying.

The moroii was pleased to see that Hiendor and Siefa were also in attendance, this time with a entourage of other members of the Xukuthite government, which made her curious, though of course not as much as Hiendor and Siefa continued to do. Unhurried in her steps, she followed behind the pair of Xukuthites and their retinue. Vereba's own retinue was clearly not composed of government ministers. Rather, those in the know would recognize it, perhaps with a little wariness, as a single hand of Dragon's Claw, her corps of assassins. Five highly trained killers, headed by none other than Roka Darvul, mistress of the Dragon's Claw, and those privy to the finer details of the secret goings-on of governments perhaps would know that hers was the identity of one "Left Fang," one of the organization's more infamous. Naturally, one might assume that these four others were the absolute best the mistress of assassins had to choose from, including one of Vereba's three husbands, Iwak. While on assignment, Dragon's Claw wore whatever suited their missions, but here, they dressed in somewhat stereotypical fashion, faded black and very dark brown garments, practical for operating under the cover of darkness, though it was daylight, as if to let everyone know what they were. However, they carried no firearms heavier than one ornamental pistol each. While wanting to project the idea of being serious about the protection of the Empress, at the same time, the number of guards was kept small to let Vereba's hosts know that she trusted their security.

In contrast to her escort's semi-martial attire, as well as her Tagmatine hosts and some of the other delegates, the Batory's own garments, like those of the Xukuthites, were formal and elegant... or at least in the Empire they would be considered so. Elsewhere, the wispy green dress might not be seen as appropriate, given that while a center strip of material ran up the middle of her chest to secure at her neck, all that covered her bust was a lattice of black thread, with the glint of metal sometimes showing from underneath. The dress also exposed much of her sides, back, and belly, having been designed to reveal some of her the ink that she'd had ritually inscribed into her ghostly skin so long ago in part of initiation to Ithtyr's Order. An impossibly fine silver chain ran up from the ring at her navel under the green fabric of her dress. Several intricately patterned rings hung from each ear.

While she wore no make-up, in the usual meaning of the term, aside from a lipstick that was an unsettlingly rusty shade of red, temporary designs marked her body, linking the ritual tattoos and changing what the overall designs of the permanent markings appeared to be. Vereba clearly felt no need to dress as reservedly as she had at the Karthay conference when only among allies; she might be considered a savage by many, but hopefully she came off as one that at least had a sense of style, ever important to the Batorys. Conspicuously absent was the long, single edged 'war brand' sword she'd had in a scabbard over her left shoulder during the earlier debacle.

Having come in following Mourro's Prime Minister Stephanie Black, who was attired in similarly austere fashion, it seemed, to Tagmatium's ruler, except for the former's earrings, and the latter's throne, of course. The Empress greeted Holy Emperor Kommodos James with just the slightest, barely noticeable incline of her head, acknowledging him as basically an equal, before sitting down. She noted with satisfaction the flag marking her place at the table was accurate down to the last detail, and, further impressive, her hosts had, on her nameplate, additionally listed her name in the Empire's runic alphabet. Next to her was Prime Minister Black, it would seem. The contrast in their appearance amused the Batory Empress greatly.

At Emperor Kommodos' reference to the disaster on Karthay, Vereba gave a bitter half smile, exposing one barbed fang. It would be hard for this conference not to go better than the previous one. She, too, noted the almost... affectionate... reference to past conflict with the Haru, and restrained herself from laughing openly, though inwardly the Emperor's comment made Vereba chortle. Kommodos' comments on the war were expected, though the Empress was curious as to what the rest of the meeting would contain, as that portion would likely be less predictable. To her regret, she had to admit that the problems the Tagmatine pointed out were quite real and apparent to her as well. A more cooperative League would function better, an organization as powerful as a cursory glance at the League's membership suggested it should be.

As the Emperor concluded, yielding the speaking role to a Xukuthite voice, Vereba eyed the Duke and Duchess during the former's words, a predatory gleam to her black eyes. What had seemed a strange speaking style at first, well, it still seemed at the very least unusual, but was more familiar after spending some time in the company of the pair so recently. While extremely grateful, it still stung Vereba a bit that she'd had to be rescued, embarrassed at having let herself fall into a position where such had been necessary. However, she had not forgotten that they had invited her for a visit, to a place they'd named the Palace of Shade, as she recalled, and this was an offer that the moroii fully meant to take the mysterious couple up on, as she had quite the... fondness... for them.

"I find myself in regretful agreement with our gracious host, as well as with my Xukuthite colleagues," Vereba finally spoke, with her sonorous voice, albeit coupled with that strange background hiss that all moroii voices had. "Not regretful that I agree with them, naturally, but regretful of the circumstances that led us all to such conclusions. Greater cooperation and closer ties would be most beneficial to the League." She looked at the various delegates in turn, eyes settling on a couple for a bit longer, notably the Haru delegation, which, much to her pleasure, included High Inquisitor Aria Ki'Zun and Lady Mai Elemmiire, whom she met eyes with, giving a slight smile. "This is true in both war, in which we have suffered grievous losses," the Empress continued, referencing the carnage in the seas off Karthay, in which the Empire had already taken, though deliberately, appalling casualties, "as well as more tranquil periods. I and the Empire, as you might imagine, would welcome such a bond. Again, our thanks to the Holy Emperor and Tagmatium for hosting this gathering."

Prime Minister Black leaned over to one of her three aides to ask something in Mourron.

'Jye-jye saiti mwo-yo?'

'Zeki shyi, Taeya.' replied the aide.

Three of the Quadros' finest government advisers of the Purple Party had joined the Prime Minister, dressed in equal diplomatic black suits, each with their earpieces connected live to their convoy outside.

Peters Stromwell, a man of thirty-two years, was tall and of a cynical calibre, not quite feeling any such need to smile or react to the odd exchanges of irony and innuendo that appeared to be flowing between certain nations' representatives here. Stromwell knew enough to know of foreign clashes and the like, but would remain neutral until the Mourron government was able to take an informed stance itself. Stromwell had been the man who managed much of the reactionary stages of the Rodron-Faynaran border clashes, stepping in while Prime Minister Black was on a conference with the Monavians. He had mobilized the Minkyo Military into key positions, as well as gaining the crucial support of the Faynaran Assisting Guard, and so together they were able to push back the Rodron rebels. It was his first large-scale contribution to the advancement of power of the Purple Party, and so he received much salutation from the Mourron public. He was a likely candidate for election at the end of the year.

Next to him, in a far more curious bodily posture, was the assisting aide of Sandra Gustanya (Mourro's Minister for Defence), Lika Labas, who was a woman of quite a short height compared to the other Mourrons with her, and who had her arms hung loosely at her pelvis, gently clasping her hands together. She would look around inquisitively, smiling at almost every delegate she could land her pleasant gaze upon. Labas had a reputation for sweet-talk and getting a job done in a quiet, behind-the-scenes manner, largely the reason why Minister Gustanya gave her the position. Labas was also behind the establishment of new Blue Corporation (the equivalent to many nations' Navy and Coast Guard) stations along the southern mainland coast. She eyed especially with admiration the Xukuthian delegates to the Mourron's side, which quaintly reminded the Saint Arthur City Mourrons of tribes in Faynara's Royal Forest.

The final aide, and the newest to the Mourron government, was a hot-shot twenty-four years of age dashing Quadros Academy graduate, who hails originally from the sunny Iroma province in the south. He had been immediately picked up by the Quadros after gaining full marks in his Foreign Diplomacy certificate, and has since swiftly swiped up another three in Foreign Policy, World History and Mourron Law. He is a fresh front-line fighter of the Purple Party, who has contributed a great deal to policies regarding civil law, the Core's political freedoms, and the Black Corporation. He stood with hands behind his back, eyeing the Emperor's decorative surroundings with a faint etching of pride; his tanned skin shone like precious stone under certain light. His jet black hair was styled in a modern 'I-want-to-be-spiky' fashion, but also with regard to diplomatic duties had a twist of 'I-am-quasi-conservative', giving his do a unique appearance.

Prime Minister Stephanie Black was an impatient woman, and the image of her portrayed by ruthless Silver Corp. journalists was one of an obsessive, ultra-progressive woman driven mad by scores of schedules and a plethora of promises to keep with her Purple Party Ministers. She had briefly caught eye of the Batorys and Xukuthian representatives, and nodded her head at the amusement of such wide contrasts in attire between certain countries. Obviously there was no dress code, and it seemed quite an emphasised matter of statements to be made through clothes worn. She hoped that her delegation would present a neutral colour.

Quite fluent in English, as it is her second language, the Prime Minister rose her hand to make her own statement before the Emperor.

'We too, the Republic of Mourro, give much thanks and appreciation to the Tagmatium establishment for allowing such a remarkable gathering to take place today. Our humble nation, the Republic of Mourro, revealed itself from a long period of isolationism to the rest of the world only one year ago, and so it remains that we are somewhat out-of-tune with many of the nations represented here, however we pledge with sincerity our volition and passion to be a part of this gathering, this alliance. It is our sole ambition to establish a significant position in what Mourrons describe as the 'New World', a position which can offer benefits to our allies and also benefit the development of the Republic of Mourro. We are thus honoured to be here.'

She and her aides gave a medium bow before the Emperor, and took their seats to listen to any reaction, and hear of more of what was to come of this conference.

Looking at the flag on the Mourron table, it bore the powerful Pegasus emblem and the great Mourron oceans behind it, and a name plaque designated the Republic in both English and Mourron characters.

The Prime Minister was so far satisfied with the effort taken to impress new guests, especially those who shut themselves out from the rest of the world and whose languages and cultures it would have been hard to extract any information about...

The Empress herself had seen fit to come to this meeting, this gathering of like-minded individuals so far beyond her lands and dominion, yet equally within such a place. Strange really, that this League would be so important to the Takhisians, and perhaps it would not be, if it would look rather poor for their mentor to not be paid at least a bit of attention to, and such situations as this, well they could parlay she supposed. What could it do but strengthen them all.

Ahead of the empress, a woman who lived the creed of the knighthood, a devout follower of the Dark Lady, Takhisis. She was clad in ceremonial armor, the full suit of thick, brown leather armor, the surface decorated by raised designs of darkly died swirls. The whole suit covering from just below her knees to the bottoms of her feet, only her hands and head being bared coverage.

About her hips was the typical long black skirt she wore, hanging behind her, the front ends pulled through the silver skull that lay in front of her pelvis, the ends hanging from the mouth like a waterfall of black, the legs of her seamless armor visible through the front. Hair was loose and wildly flowing about her head in the untamed though brushed way it had, shading her face more so than the black, scale replicant tattoo that adorned the upper portion of her face, bright green eyes scrutinizing those about the table.

She knew some of them, at least by their faces. At sight of the Tagmatium emperor, she offered a faint tilt of head. The helm carried within the crook of right arm resembled a dragon. She, Daskanya Calivate looked more set to ride upon a steed with lance at the ready then to be in this meeting. Old and the new coming together, in one fell swoop. The Dragons Claw were given a more cursory study, then she snapped her head to the right and the other three of four knights dispersed outside of the meeting area. " Quite a good omen to travel in five." Perhaps it was to the Batory Empress, or her guard, or to none.

One other knight, also a female was left and came to rest besides Daskanya for a moment giving a few of the other delegates a bit of a once over. Well, our fearless rough and tumble Knight of the Lily, and girl who loved sharp pointy things and blunt force trauma was present. Fluent in all manners of weapons, old or new. Freya had her usual dose of brew in a flask nearby, looking every bit of post-barbarian re-entry into the quote unquote civilized world. Outfitted in her traditional style of wear, atypical ceremonial segmentata infantry armor overlaid with the issue by the knights.

It was meant for fluid movements, and to be of a quick pace. Not the slow and methodical plodding of someone in scale or platemail. Two Dwarven iron rings, one for each index finger were the few bits of jewelry worn visibly. Faint glance upwards for a moment, towards the ceiling of the meeting room itself before continuing to munch upon a drakeroot. The tangy, burgundy hued plant was in likeness to a form of nicotine, giving one that extra jolt for clarity and so forth.

As one they turned to the woman behind them, and bending to one knee in fluid fashion, voices near identical timing. " My Lady, at your command do we stand ready. "

Of a slender yet athletic build, ebony hair with slight red tips cut short. Eyes of jade, and a pale lipstick only coloured by a red segment in the middle of lower lip. Her outfit was a gown of sorts, modest in it's approach, though it allowed the showcase of runic tattooing to be seen alongst shoulders, collarbone, and down the length of spine. Further adornments was that of metal itself pressing into the flesh to mimic the spine itself upon the skin. Her appearance was other-worldy in a fashion, from a people who based their entire culture on a mythology that may or may not have existed, for it's history was old and the new world was skeptical of any and all. She casually brushed her right hand, against the chin of Daskanya and then that of Freya. " Arise my loyal guardians, and be seated. We would wish not to hold up what is sure to be momentous, and we must of course pay our host a thanks. "

She offered a slight nod of head following such a statement to the Tagmatium Emperor, before settling into her seat. Freya to the left, Daskanya to the right. Nain might have brought her husband, but he was busy dealing with an internal matter at the moment, so it would just be her.

The Holstrian diplomat sent to the conference was the honorable Vlad Sosabowski, he entered giving a small bow, his war medal hanging tightly around his neck gently resting on his black suit. His grey hair revealing age and a life of hard work. Sosabowski was part of the Holstrian old breed when it came to politics. However, he took a seat, leaving a space in between him and the Takhisians. He wanted the members to know that though Holstria respected its fellow league members, it was here for business and progress. He silently began reflecting on the Tagmatians words, there was much truth in what he said. The alliance was deeply fractured, Sosabowski barely knew anyone here, let alone their nation for what it truly was aside from the Haru delegates. He began feeling more and more uncomfortable, there would be an uproar in Holstria if people got an inside look into how loose the alliance and even worse, how loose Holstria had been, along with many other nations. Worse, it was clear there was trouble between Tagmatium and several other nations, but that itself was of no importance to Sosabowski let alone Holstria.

Holstria was already at war with the Yukutskian SSR, when the King learned of trouble between the league and a opposing alliance he suspended any future political or military actions on foriegn soil, Sosabowski's and the present conflict being the exceptions. In short he was the Kings messanger, which because of the war he hoped it wouldnt be unsettling or looked down upon if he took his place. His mission was to simply report what happens back to the king, what he reports however, would decide if Holstria would march into another war or be able to concentrate on just it's sole conflict. The League was, like the Tagmatian said, filled with potential. This potential could bring great power and influence to the league, and even more promising, Holstria. His dark eyes searched the room, there was indeed some strong nations, but the question was could they commit? Could they make sacrifices and hold together? Holstria hadn't known defeat, and it wasn't about to let it start with the league. Sosabowski could only hope that things worked out, in the meantime he would have to work his way through the conference and if lucky take some time to do some sight seeing, or atleast rest before having to scramble back to Holstria.

Count Fáelán Drustan's eye was closed, but he was clearly not asleep. He called it 'measuring the energy in the room,' and there was plenty of energy here to measure. He smoothed his blonde hair back to the ponytail behind his head.

The Holy Confederacy of Vanarambaion had only recently joined the League, and it had been with much trepidation - and a great many assurances, guarantees, and political promises - that the delegation had been sent to the capital of the Tagmatium Empire. The League was in the middle of a large-scale war, that much was well-known, and it was likely that the Commodus needed the help Vanarambaion could provide, regardless of their ancient animosities.

Opening his eye, the Count cleared his throat. The sound brought a jump from the Tagmatium guard standing near him, and a smile washed across the Count's scarred face. He adjusted the plain black eye patch that covered the eye he lost to a sniper in a border war against Tagmatium forces, and smoothed his formal military uniform as he glanced at the other members of the delegation.

The Count had been assigned as the military representative, and he sat between Drust Lóegaire, His Eminence's cousin, and Ninian Brennus, the Minister of Trade. The Minister of Foreign Relations, Retired Colonel Máel Máedóc, scowled in the seat next to Brennus. A small detachment of the Count's own Shadow Corps occupied various positions near the delegation, and near the exit.

If anyone expected the delegation from the Holy Confederacy to add to the high-handed nods, empty platitudes, and general court atmosphere of the gathering, they were to be disappointed. The hard-nosed country was not interested in such useless and unproductive activities, and were well known for never bowing and scraping in the manner of imperial court politics. Again, the Count quietly cleared his throat, and straightened himself in his chair. He would wait until the Tagmatine host got on to the business at hand before adding his two cents.

This was an important meeting. A full gathering of the heads of state of the member nations of the League could be nothing else, and so he had decided to attend. By birth he had been Michael Gursevorn, and by law he was Vetok XI, Imperator of Vetok. He could feel every bit of his age looking at the other leaders, none of whom appeared yet to be within two decades of his venerable eighty years. He smoothed the folds of his grey robes over his knees, eyes studying the Tagmatine delegation before sweeping over the other delegations. He turned to one of two of his senior advisors present. "Well Minister, Empress Vereba certainly doesn't mind showing herself off. Arrogance, or confidence, you think?"

Garvin Jaansma, the brown-haired and stocky thirty-two year old Foreign Minister of the Theocracy leaned over to reply,"I daresay confidence, sir. My impression of her is that she, like a good many other of the leaders present, are no fools. They know what they're doing."
Vetok nodded and smiled. "A good appreciation, Minister." He turned back the other way, looking towards his Minister of War. "Tell me, General. What do you think?" he asked with a slight smile.
"What I think of our associates dress sense is irrelevant, my Imperator. My duty is to answer any military questions that may come up, sir, and I ask you to remember that." replied the stern-faced man in a Vetokite General's uniform. Vetok kept his smile fixed. Sparring with General Ricardo had become a pleasant distraction from the grim business of warfare.

Only then did the Imperator turn to look back at his bodyguards. While he had debated taking the members of the Order with him, Deacon Sanders had flatly refused to allow the Imperator to leave Vetok without his escort of Knights led by the Deacon himself. They were an impressive site, six of them altogether, dressed in the white robes decorated with thin stripes of crimson that made intricate patterns. Sanders and one Knight stood directly behind them, while the other four stood a little further back, heads scanning the crowds from beneath their hoods.

Only Sanders had his head uncovered, wearing instead the simple crimson beret to denote the fact he commanded men in battle, and it was this that let him see Sanders eyes flickering towards the distant figure of the Tagmatine's Patriarch, the hands of the Deacon flexing as if itching to strangle the life out of the old man. He leaned over, gently tapping Sander's knee with a bony knuckle, "Deacon. Discipline is a virtue, remember that, or I shall have that lesson reinforced. Am I clear?" Sanders gaze flickered down at the Imperator, before the flame in them went out as he strangled his violent intentions towards the overt presence of the old Tagmatine theist. He cleared his throat quietly as if to get rid of a foul taste, "By your will, Archbishop."

The Holy Emperor returned the greetings of the delegates with a curt nod.

Perhaps the most surprising group attendees were those from the Holy Confederacy of Vanarambaion. It was years since they’d had an impact upon Tagmatine affairs, and their influence hadn’t always been a welcome one. There had even been a nuclear incident in the past but that would be brushed aside. Now was a time to discuss the future, not dwell on the past.

Because of this, the Holy Emperor looked forward to hearing the opinions of the delegates from Holstria, the Order of Takhisis and Mourro. They could bring new thoughts to the table, ones which might not have occurred to the larger nations present. Mourro was probably also the only truly democratic nation here, which would undoubtedly mean a fresh perspective on some matters.

Many Tagmatines would have snorted in derision at the wide costumes on show within the meeting room, the armoured Takhisians. However, Kommodos was nothing if not a seasoned diplomat. The choice of dress of many of the delegates was… unconventional, but then so were the nations they represented.

The Holy Emperor lent forward in his chair and tapped at a few buttons on the keyboard set into the table in front of him. On the screens inset in front of each of the delegates, a list appeared. It set out a simple itinerary, an initial one which, it was hoped, would be added to as the meeting progressed. It displayed three bullet points at the moment.

Increase diplomatic cooperation
Closer economic cooperation
Military cooperation

“The first issue that I would like us to tackle at this meeting is the idea of closer cooperation,” said Kommodos, again looking round the assembled delegates. “Cooperation within the diplomatic spheres is perhaps one of the easiest to undertake. As yet, I know that the Greater Holy Empire does not have an embassy in all of the nations present. Our first move should be to remedy this. We, as a whole group, must establish an embassy within each others’ nations. This will facilitate any future communication between our nations.”

It was undoubtedly an easy step to take, one that probably ought to have been taken before. The Greater Holy Empire, for one, had simply not gotten around to taking that step. As soon as the conference had drawn itself to a close, this would be acted upon.

“The next step, I believe, is closer economic cooperation. I have discussed this idea at length with my Ministers for Trade and Finance and we have come to the conclusion that facilitating trade between our nations would be another step in the right direction.”

Every nation here worked along differing economic lines. Both Machina Haruspex and Yohannes had webs of international trade spread out around them. It had been suspected by the Minister for Trade that they might well be the most adverse to any attempts to alter trade between the League, as well as the most eager in some regards.

“To make the League stronger economically makes it stronger in other stronger in other fields. I don’t suggest anything as drastic as a shared currency or tied economies, but perhaps easing tariffs on imports or making it simpler for trade to happen between our nations. I know that, due to the economic and size imbalance between some of our nations, that this must be treated with care. We don’t want some nations to gain advantage over the others, those becoming merely economic appendages of the richer nations.

“One move towards closer cooperation within an alliance is often the idea of an alliance-based task force. Whilst I agree with principal the lies behind it, I feel that it would be a step too far for the League. Many of the nations here, with centuries or even millennia of proud martial tradition, will resist it on those grounds alone. Others would cite that we don’t know enough about the other nations to risk deploying under their control.”

The Holy Emperor didn’t want to remove the idea of military cooperation entirely from the table. It was, perhaps, something to be saved for later. The Imperial Government was worried about the impact that the current conflict with the Unified Front Alliance would scare off those nations in the League that were currently uninvolved with that conflict.

“Please don’t think of these ideas as the be all and end all. I would like to invite each of the delegates here to express what they want to see out of the League of Imperial Nations. That way, we can start to move towards a middle ground acceptable to all.”

Vlad's mental siege was relieved, Kommodos had simply wiped away any of the diplomats questions with a flood of answers. "Your excellency, his Majesty and certainly Holstria will be joyed to hear this, his majesty's government is still currently gathering what resources-and the few that I may say are left, to start an offical Embassy program. Once more we would welcome closer economic and military cooperation, both of which could boost Holstria out of it's minor downslide. Aside from gathering resources there is nothing in our way and we could start at any time now, Holstria is concerned about the present conflict and I must say that just coming from my homeland, the government seems willing to do battle. As you stated earlier about the task-force, Holstria is willing to work with other Imperial nations, and your concerns are the same as ours, perhaps a program could be instated in which foriegn officers could get tour of ones own Military?" Sosabowski was hesitant on stating this as the Government hadn't cited as an importance, though they had taken intrest in "foriegn legions".

On the screen before them all, Kaorin ran briefly over the bulletins and the words that the Tagmatium Emperor and host of this summit meeting let flow. She leaned back, to converse in the traditional native tongue of the Haru people, as there would be unlikely any sources present that could understand or translate it, it was often used as a security precaution. Kaorin spoke softly, towards Tiyu, Nimaz, and Kiana. So lusnytac, fryd cyo oui du cilr y drehk, yht fru crymm juela cibbund vnus uin Asbanun vun ymm pid dra semedyno?

It was as if a serpent was loose within the room, the rolling clicks and slight hissing of the tongue that conveyed their archaic language forth. There werent any reactions for a time, and then Nimaz, one of the few actual nobles present, let facial muscles soften a moment as he then began a reply. Ed ec cesbma, yht avvaldeja. Dra dnyta sekrd pa y luhlanh rufajan. Fryd cyoc so luihdanbyndc?

Tiyu lounged a moment, idily tapping fingers against the surface of the table, blankly staring at the respresentatives from Mourro, Holestria, Vanarambaion, and Vetok. The latter's bodyguards would probably riot if they had brought any of their own religious cleric's beyond Aria and Mai. A slight shrug a moment before replying nonchalantly towards the affair. Dra femm uv dra Asbanun ec lmayn, syga ed fung.

Kiana simply nodded, after a time a singular nod from Mai and Aria was recieved as well. Kaorin hmm'd a moment or so more, before glancing towards the Tagmatium Emperor. She cleared her throat, and then spoke in Europan English. After a time, and because of the Emperors simple and yet decisive orders to aid the League in whatever fashion it may, the Sovereign Imperium of Machina Haruspex does find all the points valid and worth investing in. While we to feel that a joint military is desirable, but at this stage, not attainable, it is in our best interests to seek out a modicum of support from the rest of the League concerning trade tariffs and so forth. The concept put forth by that of Emperor Kommodos, is worth investigating and pursuing. It can only better us in the long run to have a joint trade presence.

As Kaorin finished, Tiyu spoke on behalf of the Imperium. His accent was slightly rougher then Kaorin's, in that he did not actively speak in the secondary tongue of the realm, though it was a required bit of knowledge. Concerning pressing developments, with data provided to me by my subordinate General Horus Ni'Renor Vlos of the Colonial Legionary, oh whom is present and seated to my immediate right, the Karthian Offensive is well on the way. I plan not to speak of erstwhile allies losses, however, initial losses for the Imperium is sitting at 3%, though this figure is expected to rise.

What it could mean if our forces loose to the highly aggressive UFA, that is United Front Alliance, for those new to this information, is a continuation of hostilities, that could lead to military presences in home regions of many. Fortuantely I would suppose, their first objective seems to be Europan military powers.

To that extent, the Imperium's naval command has made the following declassified for those present. To try and stem the tide of war, the Imperium is going to conduct a feint. With The City State Rhydin being the heavy hitter of the nations collected under the UFA banner, and the most technologically advanced, they are a primary target. Concerning that many of land masses in Rhydin's territorial waters are artificial in origin, a feint of attack upon one should be enough to pull their advancing fleet back and thus disrupt the otherwise steady and methodical advance.

He stopped speaking and General Horus Ni'Renor took over, his accent was a bit more mellow on the ears, being a colonial holding, they had more dealings with foreigners. This should see a destablizing effect and it is theorized that the entire UFA offensive could be forced to enact a retreat from the Karthaian territories. Without the advanced Rhydinian submercible force, the rest of the combined UFA fleets would be far easier to sink and destroy, especially since the dangers of Rhydin's submarine superiority fighters will not be present. An unknown element that has caused tremendous damage in this campaign.

Regarding the Karthian territory, it would be wise for the League to occupy said area, as it is a gateway to the UFA's home region and could possible be a first line of defense and a warning to League nations should they become hostile again. In this regards, Karthay could be an experiment by the League towards the operation of joint military commands, or at least participation of an assigned sector that is vital to our security.
Once done, and that left to the table, Horus settled back down in his seat, while an aide set hard copies down of the Rhydinian technologies in question. Everything from known submarine designs to the marine superiority fighter in question, as well as the map of Karthay and surrounding waters, and a dossier of the nations that were counted amongst the UFA.

The Count was barely able to suppress a chuckle at the Tagmatine host's statements, though the smile that split his face looked more a snarl with the scar muddling much of the emotion showing on the man's face. Mumbling something under his breath that drew a nod from the men to his immediate left and right, he leaned in to see the very short list on the screen in front of him. Fáelán waited for the Holstrian delegate, and then the Haru delegate to speak. The first speaker drew a wrinkled brow from the one-eyed man. The second, however, drew a nod, and Fáelán picked up right where the Haru general left off. His voice was deep, and husky, probably from years of smoking the kind of cigars that peeked over the top of the pocket in his jacket as he leaned forward to the table.

"The Holy Confederacy did not come to discuss handing over our troops to be commanded and deployed at the will of anyone other than the Holy Emperor. That being said, we are not foolish enough to believe that an alliance of moving parts can be effective without some sort of internal cohesion. On that note, I believe the General has struck on something. We don't need a task force, as I'm sure the process of integrating our forces will lead us to lose something in the process rather than gain something. What we need instead is a structure set up to coordinate the various - and vast - forces at our disposal. If the Haru forces are to be utilized in a feint, it should not be up to a council such as this to discuss it. Political meetings never make good battlefield decisions. Instead, we should focus our attention toward creating a high command structure set up with input from all participating nations, to be able to analyze the battlefield and decide where best to deploy various nations' weaponry based on the strengths and weaknesses of our equipment, and the needs of the battlefield."

Fáelán stood, leaning over the table, with both hands palm-down on the tabletop. "Such command structures have been utilized in the past, with effective results. This leaves the commanders in the field in charge of their own troops, and the tacticians in the rear deploying our forces to the most devastating effect. Members of the League can add and subtract forces, maintaining sovereignty, at any time, but deployed troops are at the command of the League High Command, shall we say. And since we are already in a war with another alliance, and maneuvering will most likely win the day, we should focus on this item first." Fáelán did not sit immediately, waiting for a moment to see if anyone wanted to speak to him directly about his rather pointed statements.

The Empress observed these topics with a reserved nature, it was simple and effective and it was very relieving that it wasnt filled with a sort of pompous arrangement. It offered no clear advantage to any nation present, nor that of the hosts. The League was on a precipice, one that could either allow it to rise or to fall, it would just take a bit of prodding really.

Current events as they were unfolding, hinted at the stability however. For all the violence occurring a thousand leagues away, the composure of the delegates was peaceful, calm, measured. Perhaps this was the way of the older, more prominent nations, or perhaps it was the locale doing all the effort. In any case, after the respective delegates from Haruspex, and that of Vanarambaion had laid out quite the idea, she spoke.

I feel, that as the representative of the Takhisian Order and it's peoples, that we approve of the first two topics as indicated upon the screen before me. The latter however, is as some others have voiced, perhaps to soon. With conflict raging far to the east of here, it would be a simple matter to just wave it away in a dimissive gesture as if it did not concern us. That however is not the case, as the Takhisian Order has promised to contribute ground troops to the fight on Karthay.

A splay of hand towards the gentlemen from Vanarambaion. My respective colleague has a logical approach to the idea of military forces and their application within the League. Further development of this idea, has the support of my rule and representation. A faint smile of sorts before once again speaking. On the subject of trade, of current the Takhisian Order espouses a free trade pact within it's territory, and is working on a regional one that could be applied to the League if it's tenants are in alignment with those present.

Prime Minister Stephanie Black raised her brow.

For her, the only issues that resembled an inkling of interest were the increasing (or rather, in Mourro's case, the establishing) of diplomatic cooperation with these new nations, and issue of economic cooperation.

Her aides sat stern and awaited the Prime Minister's response, not at all quite sure how to suggest she may contribute to the current dialogue regarding past and ongoing conflicts within this league.

She listened with mere interest to the Haru delegates' apparent suggestions to those in-the-know of the league, and understood that this particular nation shared some deep relationship with the current contending issues at hand.

Of course, she thought to herself, these nations know very little about Mourro and its very nature, and clearly the current issue being discussed had no place for the ultra-pacifist Purple Party Constitution, though it was also certain that after spending a little more time in this league, particular nations would become very interested in Mourro's genetic and magical technologies.

'I would like to say,' she spoke to the Emperor, 'that as a progressive nation, we are more than willing to establish embassies in several areas, as well as welcoming those to our own country. I feel however that there will be numerous ideological conflicts within this league, ideologies which inevitably determine the agenda of any given government. I am afraid that I cannot make a confident decision with regard to this matter being discussed by the Haru general and other delegates here, as our government is not yet at all aware of even the fundamentals of the said conflicts. I therefore insist, that for our government in particular, embassies and committed dialogue between our nations be introduced, after which I may garner some political stance on this matter. I must emphasise too that Mourro is situated in Nova, a region I assume very far from the mentioned area of conflict, and with the combination too of Mourro's struggling economy and low military numbers, I cannot in the near future foresee a significant Mourron strength in this military agenda. Having said this, our government is nonetheless ambitious about its international trade and is open to discussion and proposition of trade agreements and relaxed trade regulations. I am curious as to how your league may put Mourro to use, Emperor.'

"As with many others here, I add my approval for the idea of implementing greater trade links between our members. While not going so far as to call for a joint currency, I would say that lessening tariffs on trade between our nations and favouring them over non-TLIN nations would certainly bolster our economic power." Vetok paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I must also say that I agree with the basis of the idea put forward by Count Drustan. It would allow us all to contribute effectively militarily yet also retain sovereignty over our own troops, which is an important idea for such proud nations as we all are here."

Turning to face the Haruspex delegation, he spoke again, "Bearing in mind that this conflict has been on-going for some time, I feel that it is only right that we of Vetok offer some military assistance of our own. General?"
Now General Ricardo stood up to talk, smoothing down the front of his beige tunic. "Honoured delegates, if I may? Having consulted with my fellow members of the Vetokite High Command, we have identified a number of areas where we believe that our forces could contribute. These include deploying ground forces to assist the LIN forces currently engaging in Karthay as well as despatching naval taskforces to help in any way possible. In particular, we believe that we can contribute significantly to the naval surface combat power of the combined TLIN forces."

He sat back down, only for Vetok to begin talking again. "I also agree with Prime Minister Black on the idea of establishing embassies to broaden cultural and political ties between our member nations." Now he fell silent waiting to see what would happen next.

A slow motion of slender hand, a gesture for the next speaker. Viscount of the Dominion Vel'xundussa Fashkan, Amin Vekarth, presented himself with sort of nonchalant behavior apparently a favorite amongst the Xukuthites, yet beneathe this facade was a predator of fang and steel. A shark of the inner circles and workings.

Youthful, at least in appearance, there were things that were not right with the Xukuth, not having a scent to their bones was just a minor note when one combined all of the shades together, " Shade " being a derogatory term for the Xukuthites stemming from ages beyond. They offered no insights without a price and little information beyond the most meager forms on even the good days. Silvered hair slicked back, ending into a sort of braid if you will. Ears lightly sliced and edged, with a fading tattoo under the right eye and socket against cheek depicting some sort of tribal mark.

Adorned in a dark suit, the flesh tone of an off white contrasted heavily, and it seemed as if it were swallowing him whole and alive. " A coming of the lances, together would be unto the enemy a moment to sieze. " A slight glance to the right, noting the Batory's and then the rest of those present. His eyes were an off white, as if to match the fleshtone, perhaps even slightly blue at the corners, akin to the begining stages of a corpse. Off putting at times. " The line shall we hold, and if we must, the sword shall we fall upon to prevent further travesty of the long night uponst the League. "

The Viscount was obviously referring to the Xukuthite fleet currently slugging it out with the combined United Front Alliance naval forces, the only significant deterrent in the area besides the Batory's Navy, of whom was more or less busy with the Rhydinian front. Xukuthite ground troops were in bitter close combat with the UFA forces as well, holding the advancements back blood for blood until League reinforcements could arrive.

" That is understood by all, however, the battles aside, the harvest is what we seek to court. Trade between us should be as one, to eh..as they say, regulated perchance. We are bountiful, but there is little call for such grainery in the bossom lands. Perhaps others might find it's use? " Off kilter tongue mingling with the words of business, Xukuth had come not for the war itself but for the future of it's economy.

It's not that we do not love you as a people, we love how your people taste, how they bleed. It's just that you are not our equals and never will be.

Viscount Amin Vekarth's cold glance was met by the stare of Vereba's black eyes, solemn, yet steadfast. Having remained quiet while others debated these proposals, the moroii finally spoke again. "While we agree that military concerns should not be the only topic of discussion here, we must agree that they are yet a vitally important subject. The League is sorely beset at Karthay by the forces of the UFA." Used to her own accent, her speech made the three letters oddly enunciated, as if an accusation.

"Naturally, we cannot encourage enough our fellow League nations to aid in whatever way they can," the Empress continued, glancing at her Vetok colleague, genuine relief and gratitude in her expression. "Our forces there will do everything they can to hold, but are hard-pressed by the enemy and taking very heavy casualties.... twenty thousand in under an hour, most recently, just in our fleet." The moroii didn't mention that these, most likely, included one of her children.

"We can't help but think that perhaps we'd not be taking such heavy casualties if more cooperation between members of the League had been present from the beginning, and so we would very much favor strengthening ties. While perhaps a permanent task force may not be necessary... we are undecided... a better system of coordination in the field would be most beneficial. Naturally, we don't think this reinforcement of League bonds should be limited to martial areas."

Turning to the woman seated next to her, Prime Minister Black, Vereba switched subjects. "As far as ideological differences being a problem, we don't anticipate this. We are aware that many of our allies in the League have very different ideologies from ourselves... for instance, just take religion. Our gracious hosts here in Tagmatium could not be more different than I or my Haru and Xukuthite colleagues, or Vetok, for that matter. Fortunately, our alliance can withstand differences in internal policy and ideology, or at least it seems we can. I do agree that we should actually establish embassies and start closer diplomatic interaction; it's quite embarrassing that we haven't already, actually."

She looked again across the assembled delegations of the League. "While the Empire maintains the right to set economic policy as we please, we do pledge to give our allies preferential status where trade is concerned, reducing many barriers."

Looking back at Stephanie Black, she noted "As for the war with the UFA, I can easily summarize the start of the conflict, and most events up until the present, if you wish. After all, like a few others in this room, I was there. I can do so now, or outside the meeting when we eventually recess or adjourn," she concluded with an odd smile that was pleasant enough, if a bit predatory.

“Prime Minister Black, it is much your league as it is mine,” Kommodos said, sitting back against the Leopard Throne and looking towards the delegate from Mourro. “And Mourro ought to put it to good use, too. This is why I would wish to talk of building bonds before the matter of war. What your nation feels it can provide will be readily accepted. I recognise that, at this stage in bonds between nations, war might not seem advisable, but this is why this meeting was called. So that the bonds between the nations within the League can be strengthened.”

The Holy Emperor turned his attention towards the Empress of the Batorys. Vice-Chancellor Kontarian had remarked that she was level-headed and Kommodos had wanted to see this in action. As she spoke, he nodded slightly. Twenty thousand in under an hour… the sovereign of the Greater Holy Empire prided himself in his usually icy composure. He doubted the lurch his stomach gave was visible to anyone in the room, certainly those that didn’t know him closely.

At his right, the High Chancellor gave a much more visible start than his monarch and muttered a quiet prayer. As Minister for War, Traiekton had been responsible for awful losses during the Civil War.

“I might remind you, Empress Vereba, we weren’t expecting the UFA to act in such a manner,” continued Kommodos. “I doubt you need that reminder, however. We didn’t think that closer cooperation would be necessary, other than acting together when around the diplomatic table. That it rapidly became a scene of slaughter was unforeseen by all. But we must move towards closer cooperation as a whole. That everyone here is in agreement about closer trading cooperation is certainly encouraging.”

Further collaboration might well be far off, especially within the realms of the military. The Tagmatine High Command would undoubtedly resist any attempts to put the forces of the Greater Holy Empire under another nation’s command, but they could be brought around to seeing otherwise. They might even recognise the wisdom of that idea and do so willingly, but Kommodos didn’t set much hope on that.

“Whilst I am as unkeen as the Empress of the Batorys in allowing this meeting to get bogged down in the talk of campaigns, Count Fáelán, your suggestion of a supreme command is undeniably the best one that has come to light so far. I think proposals as to who is the best for this role should get underway as soon as possible. Indeed, in order to prevent us getting sidetracked, I think we need to have our military representatives start such discussions as soon as possible.”
The above post may or may not be serious.

The Count had remained standing throughout the discussion, his face expressionless as his proposal was pushed slowly toward the back burners. The men near him showed the growing irritation the noble's face did not - they were not accustomed to waiting until the enemy made an opening to exploit. And with friends like these...

The Count waited until Commodus had finished, certain that the consummate diplomat wouldn't ignore his proposal. He was not disappointed, and took the opening to continue his thought.

"Thank you, sir. Since it seems there are three distinct areas that need to be ironed out with each of the delegations, and seeing the particularly urgent nature of some of our members' deployments to the area around Karthay, I propose we split off a group of military advisors to discuss that development so that the remainder can focus on the more long-term solutions to issues of trade and diplomatic relations." A slight smile played at the edges of Fáelán's features as he glanced about the room. "I would be happy to lead such a discussion." It seemed apparent then that the pseudo-smile was because he expected to be challenged by one of the other military advisors. He waited for the first response, still leaning palms-down against the table, though remaining standing.

The other members of his delegation seemed surprised - though pleasantly so - by the Count's proposal. Not many in the Holy Confederacy had had interactions with the Count, but it was becoming clear to them why he had been chosen to lead the delegation to Tagmatium.
