I apologise, I have just occasionally seen a "Mature" label added to certain threads and thought it had some official grounding. No, it seems what I was inquiring about will be within limits.
The "Mature" tag does not protect you from punitive action if the content of the post contains rule violating material; it has, however, become a tradition to utilize the tag in threads which tackle themes or motifs which, while within the boundaries of the PG-13 Rule, still might be upsetting or unsettling to an uninformed reader. This is more of a community convention involving literary themes and aesthetics, and not a Staff-derived edict; at the end of the day, if it is violating the PG-13 Rule, you are likely to still get slapped for it - with or without the "Mature" tag (which, again, has no basis in rules, as far as I am aware, outside of a simple community convention).
Ultimately, whether you use it or not is up to you; the PG-13 Rule is effectively sacrosanct, but themes - such as genocide, implied intimacy, etc. - can still be utilized in writing without violating the PG-13 Rule, which is where the "Mature" tag often finds its use: to inform the reader such themes might be included, even though they conform to the PG-13 Rule. For further information, I would suggest going here:
- Offensive Material: As mentioned previously, we use the US movie rating "PG-13" standard. Mild swearing may be tolerated, mild sexuality may be hinted, but explicit or excessive versions of either or both will result in moderation intervention.
