Guest Editorial: Prime Chancellor Vultis on Peace in Ordis
Our new year's resolution
XX-I-MMCCXXXVI - Vultis, C.M.

ARCADIS

Image
When Archking Xanthus vi Luxias announced the Transneptic Peace Doctrine half a century ago, he did so out of a profound understanding of global politics. As many in the Commonwealth, His Majesty understood that the only path towards sustainable peace was not to be found in cooperation with the Volnik axis, but rather in its downfall. Despite the constant threat of nuclear annihilation, a rather optimistic notion seemed to have taken form: namely, that the inherent inefficiency and immorality of the communist model would ultimately bring about its collapse free of external pressures. We now know that the Volnik parasite has proven to be more resilient than previsiously anticipated.

It was only by gradual liberalisation of the economy that the communist model was capable of sustaining itself. In a way, that is where the greatest symbolic victory of this cold war lies. Yet the notion that this is somehow a concession that would allow for reconcilliation is naive at best, and treasonous at worst. Despite its implicit confession of the inefficiency of their own model, the Revolutionary Union of Nerotysia has remained remarkably dogmatic. Anti-theistic thought is still strong and remains an institutionalised fact in the Volnik world. The middle class remains disenfranchised under the exploitation of some vague defined 'proletariat', all under the name of equality. At the same time, any form of civic virtue is undermined by the government's libertine policies which exalt hedonism. And yet, there are still those who dare speak of progress.

At the cost of the freedom of millions in Ordis, we have brokered a superficial peace. However, OrCom has routinely breached this 'peace', proving it to be an unsustainable one. If anything, the last few decades have shown us that a different approach is needed, for despite our optimistic projections the communist block has not collapsed on its own. When it comes to interaction with OrCom, there lies no remedy in diplomacy, for communism is a dogmatic pseudo-faith that eschews all possibilities of a peaceful resolution. The failure of the Ordic League serves only as a grim reminder of this. Whenever an opportunity arose to improve the fortunes of humankind, the Revolutionary Union of Nerotysia and its cronies have done everthing in their power to prevent it from happening. They have at all times elected to preserve the status quo, with all its vile injustices.

Nerotysia feels the backlash of this once more. Guerrilla movements actively undermine their communist allies, and the terror bombing in Cynagrad, deplorable as it was, is a symptom of a growing global movement against the Revolutionary Union. Clearly, the Global Alliance for Progress is no longer alone in its position against socialism. It seems our warnings have not gone entirely unheeded.

With a new year comes new resolutions, and if one person can hold such a resolution then why not an entire nation? In the light of this, the Khorneran Commonwealth must once again reaffirm its position as leader of the free world. The Commonwealth Air Force is the most technologically advanced in the world, our navy is the envy of all of Ordis, and worldwide our soldiers are known for their discipline and patriotism. This is to say nothing of all our other achievements. Our economy is a powerhouse and a behemoth, which cannot be matched by anyone. Our cultural milestones eclipse any other civilisation in the history of the world. It is only natural the Commonwealth shoulders the sacred burden of leading the world, as we have done so before. No nation is more suited for such a task than the Commonwealth. We need to increase our involvement in world affairs even more, and not merely be content with securing our half of the hemisphere. When the Revolutionary Union seeks confrontation at every turn, we ourselves must answer in kind and not back down.

"...we ourselves must answer in kind and not back down."
- Prime Chancellor Caer M. Vultis

Yet, despite the Commonwealth's vital position in this struggle, we cannot advance our global agenda in solitude. Our allies in GAP have, by form of binding treaty, expressed their commitment to preventing the spread of communism worldwide. It is time GAP as a whole follows through on that commitment with renewed vigour. The same responsibility rests with those self-professed 'unaligned' nations, whom have neglected the rising threat of communism. These nations embrace capitalism and are willing to enjoy all its benefits, but leave the burden of defending it to the rest of the world. They too should accept their responsibility wholeheartedly, and proudly join in the united front against Volnik expansionism.

We, and with us the rest of Ordis, thus find ourselves at a vital time for choosing. Either we stand upright and valorous in the face of adversity, or we will fade away into obscurity.

Ecclesiarch Calahan XI dies
The nation mourns over the loss of a beloved Ecclesiarch
XX-II-MMCCXXXVI - Acien, V.D.
ARCADIS

Image
Auridites around the world mourn as Ecclesiarch Calahan XI, died of a heart attack yesterday in his sleep. The announcement of the Ecclesiarch's passing, which came yesterday XIX-II-MMCCXXXVI at 16:30, left the nation in a state of mourning. In Acheron, Aurdites have flocked at the High Basilica in a display of solidarity and collective grief, as they weep over the loss of a beloved Ecclesiarch.

Ever since a near-fatal heart attack last year, the Ecclesiarch's health had been rapidly deteriorating. Since then, the Ecclesiarch had been under constant surveillance and medical care, only occassionally making public appearances.

Calahan XI, born as Agaeus vi Callis on XIII-X-MMCLIV to a middle class family in Sempyra, quickly rose in the ranks of the Orthodoxy as a priest of Zaeris, and achieved the position of Pontiff at the age of 67, being the first Sempyran to hold the office in a century. When his predecessor, the late Ecclesiarch Calahan X died in MMCCXXIX, he was elected Ecclessiarch after a troubled and highly contentious election.Throughout his short tenure as the Ecclesiarch of the Orthodoxy, Calahan XI distinguished himself as a voice for moderation, preaching harmony where others would sow discord, especially in inter-faith dialogue with the Horizon Catholic Church. He gained the adoration and respect of the masses in his firm and fair response to the MMCCXXXI embezzlement scandals that plagued the Orthodoxy that year.

However, his tenure was not without controversy. His positions were widely critisised for being inconsistent, and at times reactionary. Especially on international issues, most notably the Orthodoxy's stance against the institutionalised and dogmatic anti-theism of communist countries, his policies were decried for being contradictory and vague. This earned him many opponents and critics, in both progressive and conservative circles. Even within his High Council of Pontiffs, he found a sizable resistance growing against his edicts. It is a great irony of his tenure, that his intentions of peacemaking caused greater divisions within the Orthodoxy.

If anything, the Orthodoxy and its clergy has only grown more militant the past years. The nationalist resurgence that has sweeped the Commonwealth has not excluded the Orthodoxy, and it now seems that a more beligerent faction has assumed full control of its councils and offices. In this regard, Calahan XI seems to represent the end of a less beligerent priesthood, which often found itself at odds with the militaristic direction of the current Vultis administration and its predecessor. Now, it seems that the next wave is ready to take charge.

In response to the Ecclessiarch's death, political and spiritual leaders from around Ordis have expressed their grief and condolences. "It is a sad day indeed that such a dedicated servant of the faith has left this earth, today, Ordis is truly at a loss", are the words of His Majesty in response to the tragic news. Prime Chancellor C.M. Vultis responded similary, "We are at a loss today. We did not always see eye to eye, but his dedication to the faith was unquestionable". Even the Archbishop of the Horizon Catholic Church expressed his condolences: "May the grace of god almighty be with him."

With Calahan XI gone, the question now arises, whom will succeed him? Even now, speculation is running rampant, with many commentators and experts already placing their bets on specific candidates. One clear pattern seems to emerge, and that is that the next Ecclessiarch is very likely to be part of this beligerent new wave. Although every Pontiff could hypothetically be elected for the Holy Office, in reality very few even find themselves nominated, let alone pass the first voting rounds. Despite this, an interesting host of Pontiffs already find themselves the favourites, and are expected to be the prime frontrunners for the coming Conclave.

With his background as a priest of Akromea, Pontiff Helios is a solid contender for the Holy Office. Having joined the clergy at the age of 18, he is amongst the more experienced contenders. He is known for being a fierce anti-communist, and for his firebrand rhetoric. Similary militant is Pontiff Sodis, having been a priest of Paethon he seems an unlikely candidate at first glance, yet he has distinguished himself with his competency and dedication. Traditionally Ecclessiarchs have been drawn from the ranks of the orders of Akromea, Aesura, Aevaca, or even Myrmidon. Yet the election of Calahan XI himself has shown that such a background does not have to be a deciding factor. So it remains a matter to be settled at the Conclave next week, which will decide the future of the Orthodoxy, and the entire Auridite community.

But for now, the Commonwealth mourns the demise of a faithful servant.

The Federal Republic establishes first Research station in Southern Tartarum

The Concourse Research Facility

Tyderius - After eight months of construction, the Concourse Research Station has officially been completed, having been only four days past schedule. Officials assigned to the project are pleased to announce that the Concourse Station is set to be opened to designated Federal science personnel within two weeks, and international science staff within four weeks. Due to it being the only Research station in Tartarum, the Federal Republic is urging the international scientific community to use the Concourse as a base of operations for research that goes deeper within Tartarum. The Concourse Director has taken charge of new pursuits in research and exploration of Tartarum, of which there is little information.

"Even with the Concourse Station's financial matters being closed up, we have already planned 6 missions that will take us in Central Tartarum, something we couldn't have done without a facility being present here." Says new Concourse Director Lillian Anderson, who is set to oversee operations in Concourse when the station opens. With the Concourse's completion, the President of the Federal Republic will personally travel to Tartarum, explore the facility and give a speech to the science staff and explorers who will usher in a new era of discovery for the frozen continent.

Today marks 73 years since the death of Eutanasio Rodriguez Ugarte, the matermind of one of New Spanishland's darkest eras: The New State Regime

Image

Above: "The Generalissimo Eutanasio." Head of State of New Spanishland from 1932 to 1943. Below: Alberto Olivera. Head of Government fro 1932 to 1943.

Friday, March 4th. 2016.

At the dawn on March 4, 1943 a group armed men opposed to the regime of the New State, led by a former Admiral called Pedro Pablo Viñas attacked the convoy in which General Eutanasio Rodriguez was heading to his private ranch. The Army escorts tried to defend the rear of the convoy but it was heavily beaten by the fire from submachine guns; when all the escorts died, Eutanasio, injuried, tried to escape but received multiple shots (most in the chest) until fell on the floor.

His years of government are known as the Second Republic or New State Regime, and considered as one of the bloodiest tyrannies in Central Orda. His government was characterized by anti-communism, repression of all opposition and personality cult. Civil liberties were nonexistent and constant human rights violations were committed. He plunged the country into a state of panic and "respect", were a death could be disguised as an "accident" and any person accused as disaffected could be imprisoned and tortured in a clandestine prisons intended for that practice. Eutanasio's government was responsible for the deaths of more than 50,000 people, including thousands killed in the infamous Slaughter of Caijal Prission. Total estimates of the number killed in the slaughter range from 5.000 to 25.000.

Eutanasio's personality is characterized more than anything by the social resentment, due to aging within a dysfunctional family and personal repression due to both lack of affection and material to which he was subjected during his early years. Their criminal acts and their subsequent behavior while in the presidency of New Spanishland were the product of the same, it linked the impetuous desire to be accepted in high social circles of the country. One of the main features of Eutanasio was his instinct of power, accompanied by an intense desire for money and the conviction that money was the source of that power support. Eutanasio was methodical, punctual, quiet and stealthy and had no real friends, only acquaintances and sycophants.

His love of fine clothes and ostentatious always noticed in their uniforms and elaborate costumes which came to collect more than two thousand. He was fond of ties and had a collection of more than ten thousand of them. In addition, he preened with plenty of perfume. His sexual appetite was insatiable, preferring young brunettes well proportioned bodies. With the passage of time women sought more and younger, which were provided by people seeking favors. He came to appoint an official at the palace for parties with those goals. When women were not willing to "cooperate", Eutanasio pressured the family to get away with it.

One of the cornerstones of the New State regime it was the cult of personality. The statues of "The Generalissimo" were mass produced and erected throughout the geography of the country, and bridges and public buildings were also named in his honor. The country's newspapers wrote praise for Eutanasio, as part of the cover, and the vehicle license plate slogan "Long live Eutanasio!" Was included. The motto "God and Eutanasio" became propagandistic use electrical signal in New Horizon.

The Story of Eutanasio and the New State Regime are an example of the terrible past of our nation, are an example of an story that shall never be repeated and that perhaps, should never happen.

A Transoxthraxian-Graditoran Team Uncover Shocking Archaeological Findings In the Swamps of Southern Transoxthraxia

The skeletal remains of Graditoran and Transoxthraxian warriors, weapons have been discovered to have
origins in both Graditora and Transoxthraxia | Evidence suggest a skirmish broke out here
supporting a theroy the team developed since few bodies where discovered.

Two teams of archaeologists from Graditora and Transoxthraxia combine their research and data they have recorded from legend and tale from both of their respective cultures are on the verge of a great discovery!

Just a week ago at Dig Site Anqhirrais Dr. Frank Delgado made the first brush strokes uncovering the cranium of what he surmised to be the remains of a murder victim, further digging reveled what he had discovered. A confrontation of between Graditoran Legionaries and Transoxthraxian warriors! Weapons are strewn about the bodies with javelins nearby thought to have been thrown by the legionaries in the opening sequence of the skirmish.

After the discovery a wide area around the Dig Site Anqhirrais has been formed with the additions of Dig Site Tiberius, Dig Site Arkhadyan, Dig Site Kalisthidas, and Dig Site Orillius.

Dig Site Tiberius has been showing great signs of what seems to be a semi-permanent Graditoran base camp which suggests that after the Graditorans landed they either expected to settle the land and gather supplies to return to their homeland or they where unexpectedly stranded and where unable to complete a permanent settlement. Findings support evidence of the latter as digs uncover what seems to be the unfinished battlements of the camp.

Dr. Delgado believes he is on the verge of discovering the battlefield described by ancient Transoxthraxian legends.

Prime Minister Jans Nordvich speaks to reporters about the upcoming celebration of Earth Day in Járnfjördur.

EARTH DAY 2016 CELEBRATIONS UNVEILED

Alexander Fokkersson
Senior Environmental Correspondent

Járnfjördur, Meriad -- Today at an impromptu press conference outside of his residence, Prime Minister Jans Nordvich revealed his agenda for the city's celebrations of Earth Week 2016. He spoke at length about the importance of the environment to the Meriadni government, recalling the numerous pieces of legislation passed during his tenure as Prime Minister and during the incumbency of Franzan Istlaskotr, his predecessor. He also spoke about the importance of international cooperation in the ongoing battle against climate change, referencing recent studies about the drastic size reductions of glaciers in Northern Meriad.

In addition to speaking about the country's growing environmental movement, Nordvich also discussed the collaborative celebrations of Earth Week between the national government and the city of Járnfjördur. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Nordvich, Járnfjördur Administrative Region Governor Devon Eikeli, and Járnfjördur Mayor Ethan Jamdring will be holding an open-to-the-public press conference about environmental policy, taking questions from the public and reporters alike about the stances of the city, the region, and the nation on global warming and other such important issues. On Thursday, Nordvich and numerous other high-level government officials will be spending the day in Westford Regional Park, planting saplings and picking up trash across the park in conjunction with city authorities and the public. There will be a brief question-and-answer session following this clean-up.

On Friday the 22nd, Earth Day, Prime Minister Nordvich and almost 90% of the employees of the City of Járnfjordur and the national government will be bicycling to work, and government and public facilities across the city will be run on 100% renewable energy from wind turbines off the Meriadni coast and solar panels recently installed on government buildings.

Prime Minister Nordvich invited residents of the city and the nation as a whole to join in the celebrations, and asked the people use alternative methods to commute to work on Friday. He encouraged bicycling, running, and even skiing as alternative methods of starting off the day.

"This is a big step for us as we move into a more environmentally-conscious future," he said when asked if the government's commitment to the environment would last beyond this week. "The King and I will be working together to try to move the rest of the government to action, but it's going to take a lot of time and a lot of effort." He encouraged citizens to write to their representatives in the Hall of Jarls asking for change on environmental policies. "It won't happen overnight, but I'm confident that we can work together and affect some real change in the world."

The city's bus service will continue to run despite the celebrations.

Dr. Isaac Convite: Hadrin's Fever is a threat to all of us, only united, we will triumph over death and disease!

Bauxal, BA. Today, members of the Scientific Society held a press conference in the conference room of the iconic Peral Building, the headquarters of the entity under the Ministry of Science and Innovation referring to the spread of the deadly Hadrin's Fever over all Osova. The director of the entity and award-winning scientist, Dr. Isaac Convite made the call to his colleagues to "put the heart and soul" in finding a cure for the disease, which has already turned off dozens of souls in New Spanishland and its colonies.

"In times like this we must remember who we are and what we want as humans, the actual cirucmstance tell us to gather and give all we got, all we are to the defence of life. It has always been about that: We against death, against extinction." He declared

He also said that already the Ministry as well as the whole nation is mobilizing by direct orders of the Emperor to prevent the spread of the disease in most areas of the country, said it is necessary to isolate the sick and put them into immediate quarantine for the sake of their loved ones.

He reiterated that hopes to join their Khorneran and Kolish counterparts on a joint investigation to battle the disease.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR OF FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE JACOB THRAKESHIRE
JUNE 6, 2016
Jacob Thrakeshire, a career analyst at the Meriadni Office of Foreign Intelligence, has just been appointed by Prime Minister Jans Nordvich as the sucessor to retiring director Isaac Rosdahl. Thrakeshire, who has served as the Deputy Director since July of 2013, has big shoes to fill, after Rosdahl's fifteen consecutive years as Director. We got an interview with Dr. Thrakeshire immediately after his institution as the twenty-sixth Director of the Office of Foreign Intelligence.

Q: What are some of the goals of the Office of Foreign Intelligence moving forwards?

Director Thrakeshire: The single most important function of the Office of Foreign Intelligence is to collect information about activities outside Meriad's borders. This ensures that, no matter what situation may arise, the Prime Minister will always have the information he needs in order to make informed and beneficial decisions for the country's good. This remains the single most important goal that the Office of Foreign Intelligence has moving forwards. We are also expanding our focus on international terrorism, both state-sponsored and grassroots, in order to be able to accurately predict and prevent terrorist strikes in the future.

Q: The Office of Foreign Intelligence's Quarterly Intelligence Report shows that the one of the fastest-growing professions of its employees is psychology, ranked just below analysis. What does this growth show about the Office?

Director Thrakeshire: One of the most important trends in international intelligence is the growing threat of terrorism to our way of life. Unlike in the last several of decades, however, terrorism is becoming less-frequently supported by states, and more frequently carried out by splinter groups or even radicals inside of national borders. This means that, more than ever, predicting terrorists' actions is imperative in stopping them. In order to accurately predict attacks that may come from inside of our borders, we must be able to understand their reasoning, and what drives them to perform the destructive acts that they do.

Klyuatra Asergoniz, a portrait
captured in April of 2016,
immediately before she
became a member of the
Council of 500.
May 13th, 2016.
Vounomethea, Transoxthraxia: Today, revolution seems to vibrate in the streets and the crowds of the capital of the Staat-Respubliijk. Nine days ago, the leader of the radical wing of the VTVoA, the DvSK, Skawm Drosz died peacefully in his bed after receiving a brain aneurysm, ending the veteran politician and soldier's long and outstanding career instantly and painlessly. Since then, the DvSK has been without a leader. That is, until today. As per the protocol put forth by the VTVoA immediately after the Constitutional Crisis, when a member of the VTVoA dies or retires, they are to be replaced by another member that belongs to the same party of the late member, elected by the other members of the specific party.

After Skawm Drosz passed away, there was a vacancy not only in the DvSK, but in the leadership of the party. This was filled, for the first time in Transoxthraxian history, with a woman. Klyuatra Asergoniz was a member of the TSB since her graduation from the Vounomethean Regional University with a major in Political Science, and operated within the realm of intelligence gathering and later covert operational planning. She participated, quite successfully, in the Constitutional Crisis, assisting the weakened TSB in ensuring that militant populations remained pacified and under the rule of Transoxthraxian Law. She made her debut on the political scene as early as 2014 where she served as the mayor of Augasz, a relatively small resort city in the far Southern part of the nation before being appointed to the Governorate of the Southern Reaches. She earned the nickname "the Great Administrator" for her amazing ability to reorganize and make efficient the messy bureaucracy that was the result of decades of administrative mismanagement on part of the Old Regime.

The thirty-four year old unmarried Asergoniz is the granddaughter of a Transoxthraxian aristocrat from the now-extinct Hillunging line, oddly enough qualifying her for "demi-royalty", despite her rejecting the title. She had always been politically associated with the DvSK, her uncle being a long-time member, organizing the DvSK in the early days after the fall of the Old Regime. She is a self-described "staunch nationalist, jingoist, and a lover of nothing but her own country", and has spoken out numerous times not only on the political, but the religious errors of the political left. When Drosz died, she was seen as a natural replacement for the man who guided the DvSK into the VTVoA. Her impressive resume and her stalwart devotion to the DvSK "made [her] a natural choice for leadership of the party", according to the Council for the Future of the DvSK Party, which was the political body that chose the woman to be the new leader of the radically far-right party.

The DvSK has always been the extreme wing of the VTVoA, the entire party being seen as "right wing, even for the right wing coalition"[1], being the only party to advocate interventionism, jingoism, and, most notably, what they call "Political Singularity". Since the inception of the Staat-Respubliijk, the radical DvSK has grown rapidly in popularity; much of which has come from the newer generations of soldiers and officers that have come into existence as a result of Skirivilnas' military reforms and rearmament programs.

Asergoniz is believed to have been chosen as the head of the DvSK in order to guide the party into a new era; a number of anonymous council members claiming that her nomination was based on the belief that she would reform and expand the party's operations and overall power, not only in the VTVoA, but throughout the populace of the nation. In her assumption of party leadership, she made a promise to standardize the DvSK's fractious platform, reform the party, and bring the party into the era "that it has, for so long, deserved."[2] Only time will tell if the ambitious Asergoniz will be able to fill the massive shoes of political magnate Drosz, who, while never the most successful diplomat, was a true believer in the party and his own platform.

Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?

"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,

Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

CELEBRATIONS IN RYKBORG FOR MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL
21st of June, 2016 (CE) | 2266, 6th of Mittár (OC)

Image
Thousands celebrated Midsummer, a holiday celebrated by almost all religious and non-religious groups in Faldarun, in Frjálsgarður park, Rykborg.

Frjálsgarður, Rykborg: TODAY in Rykborg, tens of thousands of the city's denizens took to the streets of the city in celebration of Midsummer, a festival celebrated by almost all religious groups in Faldarun, and also among the irreligious. All three largest Norse Pagan denominations in the country (United Pagan Church, Cult of Þegen and Unaffiliated Pagan) recognise Midsummer as an important time of religious celebration, while most Christians in the country celebrate the day as St John's Day. Among the irreligious, Midsummer is celebrated both as heralding the zenith of summer and as a time for joy and merriment.

Throughout the day, people filled Rykborg's large open spaces and parks, such as Frjálsgarður, its largest. Maypoles were erected in most of these open spaces beforehand, and from dawn until dusk people danced around them in both traditional and non-traditional ways. In the wide streets of the city, parades were orchestrated, containing all variety of acts, such as music.

We interviewed Dagur Einarsson, Hárgoði of the United Pagan Church, about the event. He described the day as "merry, cheerful and upbeat", when asked about the variety of religions which celebrated the event, the Hárgoði went on to say that the celebration was "testament to the goodwill and friendship [fostered] between Faldarun's faithful". The Hárgoði was in attendance for most of the day, along with a host of other famous Faldarians, such as Lawspeaker Mikaela Ólafsdóttir, Councilwoman Jóhanna Davíðsdóttir, musician Saga Snorrisdóttir and comedian Páll Óskarsson.

Many of the events lasted well into the night, and bonfires were lit when the night turned dark. Dancing and singing around the bonfires was common, and many of the maypoles continued to be used. By the time the clock had struck twelve, many had returned home, but many had still yet remained. There were reports of singing well into 4.00 am. Many have reported this years' celebrations as the largest yet, and all signs suggest that they were.

Politics: Diet divided over press freedom bill
By Gazhtun Talynsk. Published 05/07/2016 at 20:02. Last edited at 21:45 by IIAdmin.

Image
The current Konzhun, Lady Espargyr, and her predecessor, Lady Zhutsik; who are coincidentally sisters-in-law; clashed over the controversial bill proposed in the Diet today. Depicted above is Lady Zhutsik during today's short speech.

Lacrima - Today the Representative of Yrno Subprefecture, Markena Virka, representing the religious-environmentalist Green Party of Kolintha (GPK) proposed a radical bill to the Imperial Diet. This bill, entitled the “Informational Liberty Act 2016” addresses apparent illegal censorship of government-critical newspapers and digital news sources.

According to Lady Virka, herself a former columnist in the now illegal leftist tabloid Vaccher Daily, the Imperial Government has on many occasions put pressure on journalists and publications themselves to prevent them releasing stories that endangered positive perceptions of the State and senior officials, allegedly making use of bribes, secret arrest warrants and threats of violence to this end.

Of course, evidence of these claims have been scarce, and most of the Diet, as well as several major figures in Kolish journalism, condemned the accusations of State corruption as ‘divisive fear tactics.’

Nevertheless, many of these same representatives and media giants chose to support the bill regardless of Lady Virka’s comments. Markiva vi Stagzhe, 20-year host of the award-winning talk show You Awake?, said today that “It’s a fabulous idea, honestly; we may not have this institutionalised bullying that Virka-tse is desperately trying to prove, but we definitely have a problem in this country. It’s, like, inequality between State media and Commercial media. The State has more money, more access to the stories that matter, the content that matters. Independent journalists can’t compete with that, they’re not allowed to. The State can control what the people think.”

Most of Virka’s fellow Greens supported her motion, with the only rebel being Uyiga Subprefecture Rep. Vazhalya Masado. The same could be said for the Social Front, BAP and the Kelyeskite Bloc; all informal allies of the Greens.

The Honourable Association of Liberal Parties (HALP) followed a similar trend, with 86% of it’s Reps voting in favour of the motion; Achyevina vi Hetselekt, the leader of the party, initially spoke in favour of the motion, but voted against it in the end, stating to the press as she left the Palace of Government that she had “carefully weighed arguments from both sides, and changed her mind as a result.” This change in decision has since been publicly criticised by several members of the Shadow Cabinet on social media.

Sword and Honour (SHP), the highly successful far-right newcomers to the Diet, voted unanimously against the bill, and almost every one of their ERs took the opportunity to attack Virka over her previous employment at Vaccher, as well as formally denounce the legislation itself. Lady Kyukine herself outright challenged Lady Virka to a duel, but was declined, prompting booing from the SHP backbenchers, and shouts of “coward!”. Royalists and Reformists soon joined this chorus, as did the two representatives of the Auridites and the Horizon Party.

Alarmingly, for the first time since the current Konzhun’s election, the Democratic Nationalist Party (DNP) saw itself considerably divided over an issue. Valhyldra vi Espargyr, the current Konzhun, clashed with her former mentor, ex-Konzhun Viola vi Zhutsik.

It began with Lady Zhutsik commenting; “We can’t claim our system is the best if we don’t allow discussion of it’s flaws and shortcomings. Whatever our individual beliefs on the degree towards which the private press is actually restricted, I think we can all agree that it is alarming we have little to no policies in practice that protect journalists from such abuse if or when it does happen.” The Zhutsik Konzhunate was known for large amounts of progress in the field of civil and political rights, and so many were unsurprised at Lady Zhutsik’s position, even if it was somewhat removed from the usual position of the DNP.

Lady Espargyr was quick to respond to her colleague, apologising for her sudden interruption, before saying that while she agreed with The Honourable Lady’s assertion that a free press was important, she believed that the media was sufficiently protected by existing laws on freedom of expression and the clauses of the National Rights Act 1948, and the bill, as presented before the Diet, would serve only to limit the effectiveness of the government campaigns against ignorance and terrorism. Lady Zhutsik dismissed this argument however. She argued that opposition to the bill was a clear sign of the Kolish political establishment’s shift towards “destructive, despotic Kachanist thought.” and that while the bill was “not yet polished” it was still worth advancing at least to the second reading process in His Imperial Majesty's Court.

Stuck between their leader and Konzhun, and arguably one of Kolintha’s most popular politicians, most of the DN backbenchers were forced to choose a side. Those who remained neutral were for the most part centrists that backed Lord Ygir vi Yasal in the previous leadership election and presumably could not stand to side with either of the Iron Maidens, even if they were divided. The DN's coalition partners, the Veteran Party, were less split; owing their relevance almost entirely to Valhyldra, they voted mostly nay.

Ultimately, those in favour of the bill won out, by a very narrow margin - and therefore, the bill will be passed up to the Imperial Court, where, if approved, revisions will be recommended, and the bill will be signed into law.

TNN: Delivering the people the truth; One day at a time.

May 29th, 2016.
Vounomethea, Transoxthraxia: Today our country mourns the death of one of the greatest men in Transoxthraxian history. Regardless of one's personal political orientation, it is impossible to deny that the Honourable General Iaason Skirivilnas, Guide of Transoxthraxia, pulled our fine nation, kicking and screaming, into the modern era. Despite the administrative inefficiencies and the bureaucratic failings of the Old Regime, Skirivilnas performed his duty as a general and a politician loyally and competently, overseeing the beginning of the military reforms that would herald modernity in an otherwise backwards country. He began, led, and ensured victory in the usurpation of the Old Regime, allowing the nation to free itself from the bonds of tyranny and defeatist apologism. After retiring from politics, Skirivilnas served once again faithfully under the First Republic of Transoxthraxia, despite its many political scandals, but once again rose to the forefront of the morally correct when the Constitutional Crisis arose, and finally, took the reigns of our nation into his hands once the VTVoA defeated the corrupt politicians and the modern army that he helped build.

Around four thirty yesterday morning, Skirivilnas entered his personal vehicle, and asked his driver to take him to his offices. Unfortunately, they never made it. In what appeared to be a road accident fueled by exhaustion on the part of his driver, the vehicle careened off the road on the outskirts of Vounomethea along Coastal View Road, causing the Speaker of the Council's limousine to roll down the steep cliffs before landing in the deep waters of the Bay of Cannibals. While there have been suspicions of foul play alleged by the leader of the DvSK, Klyuatra Asergoniz, the investigation is, at this time, ongoing. Iaason Skirivilnas has been posthumously rewarded the title of "Bringer of Hope" by the remains of the VTVoA. While this is a very personal tragedy for the Skirivilnas Clan as well as the nation at large, it may also be a political tragedy. Skirivilnas operated as the unifying force behind the VTVoA, and without a clear successor and the DvSK complaining about their lack of representation despite their popularity among Transoxthraxians, the right-wing group of parties who have run the nation for just under three years may be under threat of dissolution.

Following the great statesman's passing, the Council of Five Hundred, the governing body of the VTVoA, has promised free elections to the Council in about a month's time.

The funerary services for the Honourable General Iaason Skirivilnas will be held at the Central Anqhirraic Temple in Vounomethea, Transoxthraxia. While the family has asked for it to be a private funeral, a public viewing and ceremony will be made available afterwards in order for the masses to show their devotion to the deceased great person, as is Transoxthraxian tradition. Watch our website closely for updates on the time and place of the viewing.

Monday, August 1st. 2016.

In the morning, around 3500 troops succesfully completed their first cycle of maneuvers year in the semi-desertic valleys of Cacupey, Colony of the Empire as part of the Program for the Development and Strengthening of the Imperial Armed Forces, decreed by His Majesty the Emperor. In the arduous six months of study and planning were carried out over 35 types of exercises for all branches of the Imperial Army, like ground maneuvers as assaults, hostage situation, tanks battalions and elimination of high-profile enemies to naval exercises such as the fleet training.

The results show a remarkable progress and improvement in all aspects of the Army, which is a sign of the strong and organized labor of officers and troops alike. "I am immensely proud of my boys, they are the proud of this institution." Said Lt. Paez of the 12th Armored Division.

"Work has been really hard, but I feel very proud to have participated for the second time in the maneuvers, even I improved my average!" Said Pvt. De Santos of the 32nd Infantry Brigade.

The Emperor also noted the efforts and achievements of the army: "I think I speak on behalf of all citizens of the Empire when I say that our army is an example of precision, effectiveness, professionalism and discipline, is a great honor to hold the post of General Capitan of a modern, capable and strong army as the Spanishlandic is."

Politics: Informational Liberty Act Approved by the Imperial Court
By Gazhtun Talynsk. Published 08/08/2016 at 20:00. Last edited at 21:45 by IIAdmin.

Image

Lacrima - The domestic bill that has sent the Kolish political establishment into turmoil as of late - the Informational Liberty Act 2016 (or ILA16, as it is now commonly called) - today passed a vote in the Imperial Court, despite an aggressive campaign by the lower house front benches of the ruling Democratic Nationalist party.

The House of the Highborn - consisting of imperial princelings, noble magnates, clergy and intellectuals appointed by the Emperor (Long may he reign!) - passed the motion with a large majority of ayes, and was subsequently approved by His Imperial Majesty (Long may he reign!). The ILA16 will introduce legal protection for journalists from prosecution by the State, and also prevent media outlets from being censored as long as their publications do not break the law or contradict the ethical code set by the Lacrima-based Guild of Journalists. Prince Torovo, the head of a cadet branch of the Imperial Family (May the bloodline live forever!) called the vote "a step forwards towards democracy and the rule of law in our proud country."

The bill that passed is in fact a softer proposal than that originally made by Green Party ER and former tabloid columnist: Markena Virka, who demanded total protection against censorship regardless of ethical or legal violations.

Even today, despite her failure to prevent the Bill's passing, the Konzhun continued to criticize the ILA16. "I think it's incredibly obvious that these protections will achieve nothing that existing measures haven't already, save eroding our ability to protect ourselves and our precious children from the ever-present threat of radicalization and subversive groups." She said just this morning in an interview with TV host Markiva vi Stagzhe on long-running talk show You Awake?. Later, when pressed for an opinion on the accusation made by her mentor and predecessor, ER Viola vi Zhutsik that her opposition to the bill was a sign of a return to "destructive, despotic Kachanist thought", she again defended her stance, stating that she "regretted Lady Zhutsik's assessment, but remained committed to her belief that the ILA would bring only danger to the people of Kolintha."

TNN: Delivering the people the truth; One day at a time.

June 19th, 2016.
Vounomethea, Transoxthraxia: Today is a historic day, not only for the VTVoA's regime, but for the entire nation. Today, the VTVoA has announced that all former legislation banning any political parties of any creed is now defunct, and that all parties may congregate as they were able to during the brief First Transoxthraxian Republic. Already a number of left-of-center parties have been re-founded, many of their members coming out of the metaphorical woodwork as self-proclaimed members of the "centrist" party of the VTVoA leave the party in droves to support the new leftist parties and candidates. This announcement follows another historic happening just eighteen days ago, when only a few days after the death of Iaason Skirivilnas, the leader of the VTVoA and an esteemed member of Transoxthraxian society who was killed in a tragic car accident, the VTVoA announced the first democratic elections in the nation since their very same coalition claimed election fraud during the Constitutional Crisis in 2013. While many critics are voicing their concerns that this move towards functioning democracy is simply to appease the more militant portions of society, most are incredibly ecstatic about the development.

Interim leader of the VTVoA, Iohnas Alguidas, was quoted earlier today as having said, "It is time to reverse the course that our nation is going in. While we were honoured to administer under the Honourable Major General Skirivilnas, it is time that we brought democracy back to the forefront of the nation that we have worked so hard to preserve". It is unknown at this time if the VTVoA will remain united in its coalition come the promised elections in September, or if their ideological differences will mean the end to the right wing coalition. The move towards democracy, however, has not gone over smoothly in the interior of the VTVoA. Leader of the DvSK and the Head of the Provincial Administration of the Szkaulias Semi-Autonomous Region, Klyuatra Asergoniz, has publicly voiced her party's disapproval of the decision. "In the midst of ethnic, political, and societal disarray, now is not the time to return to the collapsing ideals of democracy, which has created nothing for our nation but chaos and conflict.", she was quoted as saying in a response to the announcement. Asergoniz has made her discontent with the VTVoA clear to both the administration and the public, claiming that the DvSK is greatly underrepresented in the Council of Five Hundred. Her claims seem to have fallen upon deaf, if not slightly irritated, ears.

In other news, the Transoxthraxian Expeditionary Force has now completed its withdrawl from the Kingdom of Violta, having left a token force as the newly formed Palatial Guard of Violta in order to ensure the safety of the queen during the reconstruction of the state.
June 28th, 2016.
Theundasz, Transoxthraxia: Today, out of the capital of the Kauntias Divisions comes remarkable news. Just nine days after the legalization of all parties, regardless of their placement on the political spectrum, a large portion of the newly-founded left-wing political parties met in Theundasz. Theundasz, a city of just under one million people, has historically been the center of liberalism and left-wing thought in the nation, and the event today continues the hallowed tradition; A unification of nine major and thirteen minor left-wing parties has led to the creation of the Apvianoteas Kraisaias Blokas, otherwise known as the United Leftist Bloc, a political coalition that is meant to rival the VTVoA in power.

While details are still emerging on the leadership of the bloc and the exact form and function of the coalition, many politicians and activists have said that the bloc is designed to "prevent what happened in 2013, and to ensure fair and balanced elections for both sides of the spectrum". Unsurprisingly, the VTVoA is beginning to be challenged once more by the middle class of the nation, many of whom ironically champion themselves "men and women of the people".
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express

The forum was held in the newly-completed Red Sky Theatre in Shynka

The party’s best and brightest clashed Sunday night in a debate forum that crackled with tension from beginning to end. 2016’s selection cycle was already marked to be somewhat special, as Anna Rakoszalya fights for a historic sixth term as Chairperson and the neo-Leftists struggle to reorganize after the collapse of the Ralske. However no one quite expected such acrimony.

Sunday’s forum was the first of eleven before the Congress in October, and traditionally the opening forum of a selection cycle is rather meek. Party members feel each other out - ideas, promises and campaign strategies are declared. Occasionally there are spats between especially bitter rivals - famously, the final hour of 1968’s opening forum saw nothing but insults between old Csiszmadia and young Sisak. But Sunday blows 1968 out of the water.

Almost immediately, Román Prohászkory did far more than live up to the hype. For the lost and confused - Prohászkory is a fashion-model turned union leader turned party leader who dismantled Zoltán Almasy’s dictatorial grip on the city of Fársákely. The Fársákely Conference bows to his chiseled jawline - the Fársákely cadres kiss his sculpted hair.

Prohászkory interrupted Rakoszalya inside of five minutes. “I have something to ask Anna, and really the entire leadership. And the question can’t wait.” Brushing past the moderator’s protests, he continued - “Has the party abandoned the working class?” Anna offered an indignant no. “Well, maybe we’ve just abandoned the international proletariat. I mean, I don’t know what other conclusion I’m supposed to draw from the disaster in Vioska.”

Anna isn’t queen of the reformists for no reason. She gathered herself and launched into a condemnation of the vanquished Vioskite communists. But Prohászkory interrupted again.

“Sounds like bullshit, if you’ll pardon my French. The Vioskites are slaves now. We’ve condemned them to slavery. No, you’ve condemned them to slavery. The Kolish bourgeoisie loves you!”

Raucous applause, raucous booing. The crowd turned on itself. And the night continued as such.

Some thought Prohászkory might focus his artillery on the reformists, to foster a possible alliance with the hardliners. Nope. After attacking Rakoszalya, he turned his attention to Pavle Cipkalić, hammering the neo-Leftist leader’s previous alliance with the despotic Ralske clique. “Now some of you might think Pavle is the answer to Anna’s hypocrisy and corruption. But remember, this man happily broke bread with the worst of the nouveau-bourgeoisie for years. Dictators, both at home and abroad, love Pavle!”

In short, Prohászkory blazed an irreverent trail through the forum, tearing into all of the major players and some of the minor ones too.

But that’s not even the half of it.

Before Sunday, Milás Polković was “some kinda dude who did something,” according to one forum attendee. More precisely, he was a quiet and unknown party functionary. After Sunday, however, he is a strident and promising voice inside the party.

After Prohászkory’s attack on the neo-Leftists, Polković requested time to speak. “You know, even if you don’t like his conduct here tonight, Román brings up some good points. In many ways, the party is rotting from the top-down.”

Raucous cheers, not many boos.

“The rightists have ventured far from the ideals of social democracy in their pursuit of an efficient market. And the leftists are no better - aligning with tyrants, fighting the unions, fighting the Worker’s Councils - simply disrespecting the proletariat. The right and the left, they both have abandoned the workers, just for different reasons.”

More applause. And, suddenly, all of the nobodies onstage began a chorus of agreement with Polković, condemning both factions and championing a return to “a true worker’s party.” It was a masterful political coup, and Polković sat impassive as his comrades attacked - well - everyone. Rakoszalya was impassive as always, but Cipkalić could not contain himself, at one point exclaiming “What is happening?” between stunned laughs.
Image
Rakoszalya remained outwardly calm and jovial despite the fierce
attacks on her leadership

Already politicians, analysts, and common people alike are realizing the possibilities.

Firstly, the unions. They’ve been increasingly powerful since Nerotysia’s adoption of a market economy in 2001. However, they have struggled to find political allies. On one hand, the hardliners dislike most non-party labour organizations, holding close to Chalyar’s belief that the party should be the only, all-encompassing voice for the working class. On the other hand, the reformists seek unimpeded economic growth and a flexible market, and view the unions as threats to both.

It was only a matter of time before one of the factions changed their minds, or a new faction arose to seize the opportunity. Polković has opened his arms, and the unions are very ready to jump in.

They surely hold enormous untapped potential, but there’s yet another source of strength ready for the young Polković. Nerotysia’s economy has seen seemingly limitless growth since the 2001 reforms, but it is finally slowing, and the popular mood is shifting. The boundless optimism and progressive liberalization espoused by Rakoszalya and her market socialists is no longer universally popular. There is growing clamor, especially among the young, for higher dividends, tighter regulation and heavier redistribution.

Polković’s specific economic philosophy is not quite clear yet. But he seems to favor a tightly-regulated market with lots of state-owned industry, and prodigious union power. In addition, his politics seem to love democracy and “the people’s will,” and his rhetoric is naked populist demagoguery. The unions and the young will love him. Prohászkory seems to want to stoke the same fires and win the same support, but he may prove too unorthodox and too clumsy. Polković’s smarter, more orthodox tactics seem poised to change history - to summon a populist faction of the populist Marxists. But after such a bizarre forum, anything seems possible.

The right has indeed abandoned the workers - Rakoszalya was a great leader, but perhaps it's time for her to go.

The Death of Emperor Aethis III
The Empire mourns the loss of a beloved sovereign
11.08.16.21 - Acien, V.D.
ARCADIS

Today the United Empire mourns and griefs for the death of its beloved ruler, our Emperor, His Imperial Majesty, Aethis vi Luxias. The news came yesterday evening when the press office of the Imperial palace announced the passing of the Emperor, whom passed gracefully in his sleep. At the venerable age of 80, the Emperor succumbed to the health problems that had ailed him for the last three years.

Born in 1936 to Emperor Kairon IV and his wife, Empress Vaestra, the young prince Aethis became known as a driven yet collected man. Born just before the advent of the Second Endwar, his early childhood was shaped by the greatest conflict in Ordic history. Growing up with the images of war left a profound impact on the young prince, which according to many was instrumental in shaping his ardent anti-communist stance as well as his belief in diplomacy as a first resort; two positions that have at various times been at odds with one another. Until the age of sixteen, Aethis III was privately tutored along with his siblings, and mingled with the children of other highly placed nobles. Later, he enrolled at the prestigious St. Orianna's Imperial School, where he already displayed a great aptitude at philosophy, theology, and political theory. At the age of 19 Aethis entered the Arcadis Imperial University, studying both philosophy and political science, in which he both graduated at the age of 23.

The following years he often accompanied his father in matters of state, preparing him for his eventual ascension to the throne. During this time he also married his long-time partner, Illuvia vi Stygis, whom gave birth to their first child a year later. Aethis became a frequent speaker and guest at social events, where he often spoke in favour of reconciliation with the former axis powers, specifically Kolintha and New Spanishland. Aethis gathered much sympathy abroad after his visits to both countries, speaking with the heads of state and urging greater cooperation between the three countries. Surprisingly, Aethis proved initially himself sceptical of the attempt to form a Greater Ordic Union, citing what he feared to be a loss of Khorneran dominance in foreign affairs. Despite this, he eventually expressed his vocal support for the initiative, while still questioning some of the specifics of the New Horizon Conference, which formally established the Union. The following years however, he often praised the GOU for fostering an alliance which half a century ago would have been unthinkable.

Aethis III ascended the throne in 1978, after the death of his father and predecessor; Kairon IV. The new Emperor proved himself as competent as his father was before him, further strenghtening relations with the other GOU nations, and beginning a long personal friendship with the Spanishlandic Imperial family. In politics, Aethis III showed himself a traditionalist and nationalist, as well as a staunch proponent of the Imperial system with its overseas dominions. Domestically, His Imperial Majesty followed the Vi Luxias tradition of deference to the Senate in matters of policy, yet worked together intensively with his first High-Chancellor, Azor vi Kyaron. The two formed a close working relationship, and collaborated on many an issue, lending unity to the nation when needed. Both played a pivotal role in the Public Enlightenment Act, making all tuition fees for higher education free for those from a low-income background. Which earned both an honorary doctorate from the Inquis Citizens' University.

His reign was not without controversy however, as in 1987 after the resignation of the Luxen Cabinet II, he appointed a Unionist led coalition cabinet against the wishes of the Senate. Despite this, the minority coalition held for five full years, gaining an absolute majority after the first three. The coalition parties eventually split over the Vi Decis Question, which arose after a Khorneran diplomat in Skogkläddaberg was temporarily detained on suspicions of sedition after a period of increased tensions, which led the Imperial government to re-evaluate its relations with -and recognition of- social democratic countries not affiliated with OrCom. Similary, in the year 1999, in the wake of damning reports of conditions in Vioska, Emperor Aethis III infuriated Nerotysia when he refused to meet with Chairperson Milan Osmović, whom was then on a state visit to Khornera.

Near the end of his reign, after the death of his wife in 2012, Empress Illuvia, the Emperor's health deteriorated rapidly. In 2014, he suffered two heart attacks which led him to temporarily appoint a regent while he rehabilitated. Afterwards, the Emperor made less public appearances, delegating many of his ceremonial functions to his children.

Despite the struggle with his health the past years, the death of the Emperor has left many at home and abroad in a state of shock. "Truly, the Empire has lost both its ruler and its greatest servant.", said Senate Speaker Ambrosys before the press. In a press statement released by the Imperial Chancellery, High-Chancellor Vultis announced three days of mourning; "The Empire, and indeed the world, has suffered a great loss it will not soon recover from."

The Empire's eyes are now facing the heir apparent, Crown Prince Erevan. However, Crown Prince Erevan, aged 55, has been suffering from several health issues ever since the failed attempt on his life five years earlier, leaving him permanently scarred and incapable of walking. So far, the heir has not made a public appearance, leaving many to wonder whether the troubled prince intends to claim the throne, or pass it up in favour of his eldest daughter, princess Celestre. For now, High-Chancellor Vultis has assumed the mantle of regent for the duration of the interregnum, and now wields the authority of the Imperial Seal. Emperor Aethis III reigned for 38 years.

The Loyalty extends its warmest condolences to the Imperial family, and offer their prayers to His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Aethis III, protector of the Empire, king of kings. May he find eternal peace amongst the heavenly host.

IN MEMORIAN
EMPEROR AETHIS III VI LUXIAS
21st of March, 1936 --- 10th of August, 2016

Succession Crisis Looms
Uncertainty over legitimate heir to the throne
14.08.16.21 - Acien, V.D.
ARCADIS

Image
Princess Celestre, formerly presumed the undisputed heiress

A strange series of events has unfolded itself in the wake of emperor Aethis III's passing. Setting a historic precedent, crown prince Erevan, refused the office of emperor, citing his poor health would make him unable to fulfil the duties of the omperial office. This means that for the first time in the history of the United Empire, and indeed the Holy Khorneran Empire before it, the heir apparent has exempted himself from the order of succession.

Initially it was presumed by many, including the former crown prince, that the title of emperor would fall to his eldest daughter, princess Celestre. That was until the press bureau of the imperial family sent out two contradictory statements around the same time, both proclaiming a different heir. In addition to princess Celestra, prince Oberyin, - second eldest son of the late emperor Aethis III-, has also claimed himself the legitimate heir. And he may actually have legal ground to stand on.

As it turned out, neither the constitution nor imperial succession laws provided a clear answer for the current situation, as initially the possibility of the heir passing up the throne was not even considered. If prince Erevan had succeeded his father and subsequently abdicated, princess Celestre as his oldest child would have had an undeniable claim to the throne. But in this case, he outright passed up the throne, thus never 'transferring' the position of heir apparent to his daughter, but instead leaving it adrift a legal void. Prince Oberyin meanwhile claims, that as the heir to the throne was unwilling to claim it, the claim is transferred to the second eldest child of the previous monarch, thus making him the legitimate heir.

Almost immediately the supreme court convened in an emergency session to determine the rightful heir. However, the supreme court stated earlier today that the constitution provides no clear answer to the posed question, and that as of now, Khornera has no clear heir to the throne. Instead, they argue, the decision on whom is the rightful heir lies with the imperial senate, which is scheduled to convene in one week.

Image

Prince Oberyin, now considered a serious contender for the imperial throne
The implications of this are grand, as it will set a legal precedent for all comparable matters in the future, even if they are not expected to happen regulary. Yet despite the importance of the matter, most senators seem unwilling to voice vocal support for either claimaint. It seems that for now they are playing it safe, unwilling to place their bets on one candidate as of yet. Several senators however, have dared to speak openly about their allegiance. Earlier today, speaker of the senate Vignis Ambrosius has pledged himself to princess Celestre, citing that the traditional direct line of inheritence should not be broken on the basis of a "legal technicality". Senator Decis Kronos, member of the Technocrat bloc, presents a different argument; "This should not be about mere tradition, but it should be about picking the claimant most suited for the job. And in that, prince Oberyin is the safest option."

For now it seems unclear in which way the wind will blow, with both claimants no doubt already lobbying behind the scenes in the hopes of persuading as many senators as possible for their cause. It seems that for once, Khornera has become an elective monarchy.

LAWSPEAKER OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO KHORNERAN ROYALTY
17th of August, 2016 (CE) | 2266, 6th of Kornskurðurinn (OC)

Image
The Lawspeaker, Mikaela Ólafsdóttir, gave her condolences to the Khorneran Royalty in regards to the recent death of their monarch, Aethis III.

Vetrarhöllin, Auðugurhöfn: With the recent news of the death of Khorneran Emperor Aethis III, Lawspeaker Mikaela Ólafsdóttir gave her official condolences to the relatives of the monarch at a press conference in the Vetrarhöllin, in the capital city of Auðugurhöfn. In her address, she stated that she "hopes that the family of the late Aethis III are handling his death in an appropriate manner" and that "the successors to the throne do not put their own interests above those of their people".

The words, seemingly, fell on deaf ears, as Khorneran-Faldarunic relations - should they even be able to be called that - show no signs of improvement. With the United Empire of Khornera continuing not to recongise Faldarun and to consider the territories that comprise it as 'Terra Nullis'. Conversely, the Confederation of Faldarun also vows to continue it's commitments to the Batavia Accords, and consistently aims to increase trade and relations with enemies of Khornera.

Nevertheless, the animosity between the two countries did not prevent the Lawspeaker from giving her condolences. In addition to the condolences that she has given to the Khorneran royalty, she also gave 'condolences' to the people of Khornera, stating that "the people of Khornera, long chaffed under the boots of imperialism, should take this moment to evaluate their position, and consider whether or not the aristocracy truly have their best interests at heart".

The second portion of her statement, which essentially called for the overthrow of the Khorneran state, has received mixed reactions, with many applauding the speech, and others noting that the statement, as an open threat, may push Khorneran-Faldarunic relations closer to the tipping point.
