Isokanoan Elections, 25 FPR

Postby Isokano » Mon Oct 20, 2014 11:46 am

It's election time in Isokano! The current Prime Minister, Gorĝo Alburko, is worried about growing opposition to his Grand People's Assembly single-party-dominated government. His opponents, Ŝivao Mallurko of the New Reform Party and Iano Novroŝjo of the United Workers of Isokano, are very popular with the people. How will this election turn out? A complete overhaul of the system under a new party? A continuation of the status quo under the GPA? A fragmented Igimbo?

The election poll will be open for exactly two weeks.

A Message From Acting Prime Minister Laŭero Stonomo

To all voters:
Thank you for taking the time to vote in the Igimbo's elections. I wish to inform you on the current status of the votes. With twelve days remaining, the ruling party (and mine), the Grand People's Assembly, currently carries 20% of the vote. Next, the United Workers of Isokano, who also carry 20%. Finally, the newly-formed New Reform Party, carrying 60% of the vote! This election will be an interesting one however it turns out. Please continue to vote until the polls close on 03 November.

OOC: On behalf of the Alliance of Toy Islands, we wish you the best of luck in your new Esperanto region. Apologies if any of the below can be answered based on your factbook.

The TBRE has a number of questions for the political parties:
Will Gorĝo Alburko and his party accept an election result unfavorable to them?
For the New Reform Party, could they elaborate on what freedoms they wish to enact? What is the reasoning behind bringing the courts under the authority of the executive? Will this hurt judicial independence?
Does the United Workers of Isokano intend to replace the constitution of Iskano? If so, will it guarantee to maintain the rights currently enshrined in the Constitution?

We thank you in advance for your response.

Thank you for your questions.
Gorĝo Alburko is known to be less authoritarian than his predecessor, Dĵono Grego, and would respect the decision of the people. However, the GPA will do whatever they believe is necessary to maintain their control of the Igimbo.

The New Reform Party wishes to remove Isokano's compulsory military service and allow the citizens of Isokano to vote directly for the Prime Minister, instead of his constitutional appointment by the largest party in the Igimbo. The NRP believes that the Courts, which, under the Constitution, are defined as being "the highest legal authority in Isokano," "independent...to the Prime Minister, the Igimbo, or the Military," and "under the control of the people," should be under the (joint) control of the Igimbo and the Ministry of Domestic Affairs, thereby reigning in the arm of the government that answers to no one. This would also reign in the police, which are under Court control.

The United Workers of Isokano plan to completely replace the Constitution of Isokano, and are only planning on keeping Articles One, Four, and Nine in their new Constitution. The ULI have not specified all of the rights that will be afforded to Isokano's citizens once their new Constitution is enacted, but they have said that Article Three of the Constitution contains "freedoms possibly harmful to the state," and that they "will probably be tweaking" those rights.
