A new beginning

Postby Alderann » Mon Sep 01, 2014 11:17 pm

The death of Emperor Titus sent ripples through the empire. The young emperor who died without leaving an heir and without leaving a legacy. The only thing Titus would be remembered for would be the madness that consumed him in the end.

With the death of Titus power passed to his cousin. Aegon I would be coronated within the week and with him start a new chapter in the empires history.

Aegon is a 28 year old man that was never intended to rule but was groomed for it. Well educated and physically attractive Aegon would make a great Emperor but he needed a Empress.

The only one that Aegon had his eye sat on was Empress Violet of Stormwrath. Someone who would be a string ruler and that could balance him. His request was sent but now all he could do was wait.

The death of Titus has especially shocked the Empress of Alderann, now a widow. Violet had his unborn heir, thus technically sparing his line, but she knew that his new father would be Aegon, Titus's cousin, who was better suited for the throne. For two weeks now she has mourned of Titus's passing, and now she was to start again.

Hopefully Aegon can be more in control of himself than Titus was. She accepted, and the coronation and marriage were set for the 4th of September. This was a new era for Alderann. Emperor Percival, her brother who rules over Stormwrath, has approved of this, as he believes the line of the House of Thynn must not die out. Technically speaking, this would be the start of the House of Thynn-Stormraven.

Ageon was prepared to do his duty for the Empire this marriage between him and the lady Violet would secure his accent to the throne. The empress was loved by the people and Ageon needed that from her.

True this was a marriage not of love but of necessity and nothing more but maybe more could come of it. It all depended on the Empress. Ageon sought her out to speak with her.

" empress I know you are not happy about the prospect of marrying me and I am sorry this has been forced on you. I'm not sure what kind of relationship you had with my late cousin but I hope we can get along."

Violet replied while sipping her coffee, "It's alright. I know that the people need a new leader; an emperor that will lead them in the path to prosperity and greatness." She knew that Aegon was going to be emperor, and she as his wife, but the Empress had only little affection for the new heir to the throne.

the empire has been in turmoil ever since Titus and Aries they left a legacy of madness and war. It was time for Aegon to be coronated Emperor of Alderann.

The people held hope that Aegon would lead the empire into a state of prosperity and wealth. But not everyone looked forward to Aegon being coronated as emperor. The empress Violet with whom he had been betrothed loathed the soon to be emperor.

But he could not understand why he had given her no reason to dislike him so. The coronation would take place within a week along with their marriage. Aegon thought as to what to do about the current situation.
He knew that if the empress still harbored this feelings then it could cause strife in the empire.

There he sat at his desk and composed a letter to the empress.

Dear Violet,

while I know that marriage to me is not something you look forward to I must say we must find some common ground. Not only to make our lives easier but Also for the Empire. Once we are coronated and we rule then every citizen becomes our child and children should see their parents fight. Maybe if you wish we can stay in separate palaces. Our perhaps conversation sometime. I am not Aries, I am not with madness if that is what you fear.

Sincerely,
Aegon

Dear Aegon,

First of all I would like to congratulate you for ascending the throne of Alderann. I am sure that you will lead our people to greater peace and prosperity than any time before in Alderann's history. I can assure you, I am not afraid of you. I know that you are not consumed in madness like Titus was, and I do not wish to be separated in different palaces, for the people look up to us. I agree with you Aegon, we must find common ground. Prove to me that you are a worthy successor.

Sincerely,
Violet

A few days later Aegon assembled the Senate. As the senators assembled in the Senate building all who attended had no idea why they had been called.

One everyone had settled into their seats, Aegon entered with Imperial guard in each side of him. He walked up to the podium and glared at the Senate. Clearing his throat he proceeded to talk.

" I am sure all of you are wondering why you have been assembled here. Well don't worry I will not keep you suspense. I have called you here to congratulate you."

Aegon paused then continued to speak.

" congratulate all of you on your failure to the empire."

A huge roar went up into the air of the Senate building.

" quite!!! Whether you want to agree or not you have failed, the empire and our citizen's!! You failed by letting Titus ruin our empire and causing suffering to our people. Well gentlemen I will not be in the presence of cowards. As of now all of you are dismissed from your positions."

The Senate roared and Imperial guard flooded the chamber and rushed all the former senators out.

Violet heard of the dismissal of the members of the Senate. She was shocked at this, and showed a little contempt for Aegon. For his first move, he single-handedly dismissed his own subjects, which caused some people to question this new Emperor. She thought to herself, "He was being reactionary, I'm sure he thought he knew he was doing the right thing." But deep down she knew that he did something reckless. She decided to wait for what happened next.

Aegon sat in his palace surrounded by advisors who all were questioning Aegon and his decision to dismiss the Senate. The advisors all were afraid for what the people would think. All of them thought that the people would think of Aegon as a tyrant. Aegon had heard enough and spoke.

" if all of you are done let me speak. I dismissed the Senate due to their inactivity they allowed Titus to impose any law he wished and they did nothing. Now I didn't disband the Senate, new elections will be held and we will replace them. Now if you are done go."

An adviser to Empress Violet was also among them. A short man standing 5' 2", he was often by the Stormwrathian's side in almost everything, and he saw a fault in Aegon's reasoning. This was one of the few things he had in common with the Empress. He then raised a hand and said, "While indeed Titus was allowed to do as he pleased which ruined our nation, that was because Alderann is an absolute monarchy. Titus, being Emperor, can do what he wanted, in which he did; and the Senate doesn't have the power to stop him."

He paused to sip his bottle of water and continued, "Therefore I advise you O Emperor, to change our system of government from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. This is to ensure that what you may do will be limited within our constitution, and that our Highness can be seen to be ruling fairly by both his officials and his subjects."

Aegon was amused by the question. Then he reached into his desk to reveal a document. And laid out on the table in front of him.

" you mean like I have already decided to do? I had that drawn up a week ago. So that the empire will never experience tyranny again."

The advisor then read the draft and remarked, "Ah, I see our Emperor has indeed taken initiative. Wonderful." He reached into his bag and pulled out another document. He then placed it on the table and replied, "So has Titus. This was the only time he actually created such a bill, partly because of her Majesty..."

He continued, "Empress Violet convinced the Emperor to make a bill for the transition to a constitutional monarchy, but the bill was eventually scrapped due to Titus' descent to insanity. I am quite impressed with you Aegon, and I am sure you will be favored in her eyes." He sat back down and drank from his glass of water.

Aegon sat down and folded his hands.

" Titus also destroyed our foreign relations, this needs to be repaired. Stormwrath for starters I know suffered several insults due to Titus. A gift must be sent at once and I want a meeting with Emperor Percival."

Tidal City, Stormwrath, Zero

The Emperor browsed through his message folder on his holograph display from his wristwatch. He came across a message from the new Emperor of Alderann, Aegon I. Percival didn't know that Titus had a cousin; one who was clearly more suited for the throne. But then he let that thought slide and read the message.

Greetings Emperor!

I am Emperor Aegon, the new leader of Alderann. First of all, I would like to apologize for the grievances that Titus has done to your nation. I have arranged that a gift will be delivered here soon. Secondly, I propose that we will convene in Aldera to repair and renew our alliance. Please do respond.

Sincerely,
Emperor Aegon I

He then made a call to his secretary. "Matilda, was there any gift delivered here?"

The voice came back saying, "Yes your Majesty, it's Alderannian popcorn."

"Well, that will be all then." And he stood from his chair and looked outside his window. He said to himself, "Well that's another head of state that sent me popcorn..." Percival then composed a message to Aegon which read:

Dear Emperor Aegon,

Greetings!

I would personally like to congratulate you in your ascension to the throne. May your reign be long and prosperous. Thank you very much for the gift you sent as a gesture of goodwill. I accept your invitation to meet with you in Aldera to discuss repairing relations between our nations.

Sincerely,
Emperor Percival

Aegon was in the palace sitting in his conference room with members of the house of nobles meeting with him. Aegon who up to now had proved to be a very capable leader was overlooking some legislation that he was about to pass.

" gentlemen I have been looking over a few things. First the former emperor's Aries and Titus had formed the death head division. Do you gentlemen know what the purpose of the death had division is? Let me go ahead and tell you..... Murder. I will not allow it and that is why effective immediately the division is to be disbanded. Next I'm sure by now all of you have had a chance to read through the Constitution? A checks and balance system will be in place to ensure that the ruling family never weilds too much power. Now for now that is all."

Aegon left the conference room and walked down the hall to his study. There he went to his desk and contacted the high priest.

" good evening sir, yes I have chosen a date for my coronation and I feel as the date should be on October 25th. Now I need to talk with Violet to discuss when our wedding ceremony will be. Thank you that is all."

Next Aegon called Violet but his call went to voice mail so he left her a message

" hello Violet I just got done talking to the high priest and our coronation will be October 25th. Now we need to discuss when our wedding ceremony will be. Please as soon as you can reply to me thank you."

Aegon hung the phone up and sat at his desk. Rubbing his head sitting in the dark of his room. Picking up the phone he called the Imperial florist.

" hello yes this is the emperor. I want a gift for my future wife but not jewelry that is out played. I want her to have her own garden. Yes that is correct can you do this? Excellent that is all

Percival stepped into his space plane, escorted by several guards. As soon as he sat down in his seat near the window, he pulled out his data pad and decided to make a call to Clemens Piscator, Head Commissioner of the Multi-Species Union. He hasn't heard from him since the terrorist attack last August, so he felt that it was appropriate to call him.

"Hello?", Clemens responded.

"Piscator! How are things in Pax Concordia?"

"It's great. You didn't have to send Ms. Churchill though."

"Yes I do. Now, what is going on over there?"

"Well, Opifex Thull has been elected Minister-President."

"What else?"

"And now the Congressional Union is discussing about the Peacekeeping Force. Thull is so far against the idea of a standing army."

"That's natural, especially since the MSU has just ratified its charter."

"Yes, but some members are recommending that we have a quick response force."

"Piscator, if they go through with that there must be an opt out for us. I wouldn't want to donate troops to the MSU without Parliament's approval."

"I understand your Majesty. What would you suggest?"

"Don't you have active missions?"

"None so far. Everything must go with the Minister-President."

"Is Ms. Churchill in the hearing over there?"

"Not yet, sir. She was told by her doctors to rest for today. She currently has hyperacidity."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Well, I'll be going to Alderann to meet with this Emperor Aegon."

"Godspeed, your Highness." And the transmission ended.

Aegon was excited to meet his future brother in law but he also wanted to make a grand impression on him. Plans had been made and Aegon studied Stormwrath customs.

" where is Violet i need to know if she got my message or not. Prepare Violets favorite dinner and have a servant go to her room to inform her dinner will be in an hour."

Aegon was hoping that at dinner him and his future wife may finally be able to talk.

Percival had just arrived at the spaceport which the Stormwrathians months earlier got permission to build (since Stormwrath and Alderann have different home planets). The space plane landed safely on the tarmac, docking itself in one of the spaceport gates. Percival disembarked the vehicle and proceeded inside the terminal. Guards escorted the Emperor while he went around the building, from acquiring his bag to stepping outside the terminal. This would be Percival's second time he visited Alderann, and just like the first time it involved a meeting with Alderann's Emperor.
