Royal Acquaintances [CLOSED]

The Imperial Fortress

Tsar Steven I walked through the courtyard of the Imperial Fortress. All of Gallifrey was quiet, not unusual for a city with only two million people in it, mostly government employees who were out working at this hour. Yes, the Tsar enjoyed the silence... the peace. However, it was peace that made him restless. He had been used to the chaos of running a country, leading men and women into war. Peace? No. Peace on an international level maybe, but Steven Lee I was a man who could not sit still. Most political leaders of the Old Republic played golf while the populace suffered and enemies closed in on all sides. Not Tsar Lee, he who had led the Coup Against Corruption, could not waste one second to relax. That was part of the reason the people loved him. Where others were too lazy to do nothing, he was too energetic and was all but physically incapable of rest, especially when there were things going on. He even boasted, only half jokingly, that he had not slept for months at a time. Now, in relative calm, he knew not what to do. Then suddenly he remembered...

"Guards!" he said, "Bring me Yusuf Dzhugashvili, alive and without damage."

"Yes Your Majesty." the Captain of the Guard said, his face hidden by the solid red mask of his rank. The Guard marched back towards the Fortress, ready to carry out the Tsar's will with near instant results if at all possible. Other Imperial employees and agents moved to the wall, their backs flat against the wall, and rose their left hand in salute, which the Captain returned without stopping. He was in a hurry, although the Tsar seemed to not have any implications of haste in his order. He remembered what happened to the last Captain of the Imperial Bodyguard who did not complete orders in a satisfactory manner. He had received ten lashes with the Cat-o'-Nine-Tails then was sewn up and dismissed from service as a Guard. The current Captain had a family to feed and the pay of an Imperial Bodyguard, much less that of a Captain, was beyond incredible. He couldn't afford to lose this job. When he and his troop finally reached the Imperial Vehicular Storage Area And Repair Centre, the Captain immediately dispatched four groups of four to go into four different Imperial-Class Hummers. His own automobile leading the parade, they drove towards the other side of town.

The procession of black cars led the civilians to wonder just what exactly was going on. Hummers had horrible gas mileage, so they couldn't be going far. Most likely they would stay within the City Walls. Was someone being arrested? The Guard was being sent, so if they were being arrested, they would almost certainly suffer before they even reached the Tsar for trial. His Excellency was a compassionate, yet stern, man. His Bodyguard? Not so much. Civilians watched the procession go by, in absolute wonder.

The Dzhugashvili Home

"Elizabeth? Where's Sarah's backpack?" Yusuf asked. He had to drop his two daughters and one son; Catherine, Sarah, and Dominic, respectively, at school before he could go in to work. Thankfully, the Imperial Intelligence Bureau worked around individual employees' schedules. Now, if only he could find that Hammy The Hammetist backpack, they'd be ready to go.

"Have you tried looking on the stairs?" Elizabeth, Yusuf's wife, replied.

"You're right!" he shouted, a minute later, "It's there!" Then he walked into the kitchen and gave his wife a quick peck on the cheek, "Bye Sweetheart." Then he turned to his children, "Come on kids! Let's go!"

"Coming Daddy!" Catherine, the middle child, shouted, grabbing her lunchbox and bolting out the door into the car.

After about ten minutes of hustle and bustle, they children were finally in the car and everything was set. Yusuf cranked the ignition and backed the car out of the driveway before turning onto the road and driving off. His children, although at differing ages; ten, six, and three, all went to the same school: The Imperial Academy of the Magnificent Children of Gallifrey. Every major city and most minor cities was an Imperial Academy of the Magnificent, but it took special qualifications to get in, otherwise it's plain public schooling for them. His kids had made the cut, but only just. Fifteen minutes later, he pulled up to the sidewalk in front of the school, where the Protectors of the Educational Establishment would guide them to their classes. After much hugging and waving goodbye, he pulled away to get to work.

"Ah, dang it!" he shouted, "I was so worried about that pig backpack that I forgot my lunch!" He then turned around to head towards home. "Maybe I'll listen to the Imperial News Network. Surely something good is on." Dzhugashvili then turned on the radio and took out the children's CD and changed it to his preferred station.

Trouble in Colombia? Not anymore! We have with us today General Jack Andrews to discuss the almost complete annihilation of terrorism within the South American nation. General?

A haughty laugh, presumably from the General, came through the airwaves, "You talk as if the war against the guerrillas is already over! I assure you that while they are in heavy decline, we are still experiencing resistance. The guerrillas won't stop until we either destroy them or they become so weak that they eventually disband."

"Hmm, interesting General, what kind of resistance are we talking about?"

"Well, I'll tell you. Fighting a war in the jungle against highly trained guerrillas is not easy. Quite the opposite. We've lost thousands of good men in this war, but soon we'll drive the enemy out of that country, leaving it safe under a more stable government. Until then, we'll experience battle and skirmishes from timer to time."

"Have any skirmishes happened recently, General?"

"Well, there was one just last Tuesday. We had finally taken control of this countryside village, see, and while we were helping the villagers fortify the guerrillas attacked. We-"

Dzhugashvili turned off the radio when he reached his home. He recognized those black hummers immediately. The Tsar wanted to see him. Now.

The Imperial Fortress, A Half Hour Later

Yusuf walked into the throne room, flanked by the Imperial Bodyguard. They all stood while they awaited the Tsar to enter. Yusuf looked around, he had only been in the Fortress twice, and the throne room itself only once, before. But both times he had been in such a rush that he paid little attention. He looked upon the mosaics on the walls. They depicted historical battles such as Austerlitz and Gettysburg, scenes from Greco-Roman mythology, and there were statues of great rulers such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, Catherine the Great, Alexander the Great, Peter the Great, Ivan the Terrible, Genghis Khan, an artist's rendering of Solomon, Emperor Qin, Shaka, and Sitting Bull. There were also paintings of scholars such as Sequoia and a bust of Socrates. The coloured glass windows showed scenes from the Coup and displayed why the leaders of the Old Republic were evil.

Finally, the band played Imperial March as the Tsar began to enter. "Yusuf," he began plainly, "Do you remember that conflict that we almost took part in, before the aggressor fled in fear of our military might?"

"Yes my Liege. I remember very well."

"I have a message for you to have delivered to the Queen of the Yuri Empire and her wife." he said, handing him a sealed scroll. "Pray you do not disappoint me, Dzhugashvili."

"If ever there is something I have failed to rio, My Tsar, it is to fail the Empire."

"Good. Now go! I wish to meet with the Queens of the Yuri Empire, so let it be written, so let it be done."

Yusuf then bowed and turned to walk out the door. He was to get aboard a helicopter and fly into the Yuri Kingdom and deliver this extremely important document. The seal was not to be broken until he reached the Yuri Kingdom and then he would hand the scroll to one of the Queens. This was going to be interesting, that went without saying.

It was the middle morning. Princess Azuki lay dressed in a nightgown still in bed. Azuki was fast asleep, she had been busy through the night. Queen Yuuki had left the bed at 7:00 to start ruling. Yuuki kissed Azuki and had left. She ordered for Azuki to be left alone. Yuuki herself was still tired at 9:30, her second cup of coffee half-empty. Yuuki was sitting in her "workroom" as she called it, reading a purposed new bill. It called for all the bridges and roads in Yuri Kingdom to be reenforced. It was expensive but worth it in the long run, Yuuki thought. A phone rang interrupting Yuuki's train of thought.

"Hello?"

"There's been a helicopter from The Fascist American Empire madam.

"Don't worry it's probably a deplomatic mission. Get the palace ready for guests"

"Yes madam"

Yuuki stretched, at least she didn't have to read that bill. She hurried back to her room to find the slighty younger Azuki still sleeping. Yuuki muttered " How does anyone sleep this long." Yuuki knee down to Azuki's face and said "Darling we have guests coming get up." She shook Azuki, kissed her, flashed the lights on and off but Azuki kept sleeping. This was the thing about Azuki there was no getting her up in the morning. Yuuki was about to get a bucket of water and as she walked pass Azuki's desk she accidentally knocked over a pin. Azuki was up in a flash. "You saved me the trouble of pouring water on you." Yuuki teased "hurry put a dress on guests are coming!"

Azuki was up in a flash. "You saved me the trouble of pouring water on you." Yuuki teased "hurry put a dress on guests are coming!"

The helicopter flew in over the capital city. It was quite a scenic and cultural place, not quite as flamboyant as Cherokee or Tenochtitlán at any rate, but it was still rather beautiful. The pilot landed just off of the royal palace grounds where the guards were beginning to scramble in haste. Once the engines were turned off, the bagpiper exited first, playing Imperial March as Yusuf, scroll in hand, got down from the chopper. Yusuf straightened his kilt, then approached the palace, surrounded by his unit of the Imperial Guard. He walked straight and with a haughty demeanor, as was required by a mission of this nature. He went straight up to a Palace Guard and asked her, "Where might a diplomat of the Dictatorship of the Fascist American Empire locate your Queens? I have an urgent message to deliver to them."

"What's the message?"

"I do not know. As if I were a mailman, I read not the scroll."

The Palace Guards surrounded the Imperial Guard and escorted them to the palace. All the while, Yusuf wondered, How is it that a nation can only be populated by women? Surely they have incredible border security to keep unauthorized men from coming within the empire. What do they do if a baby boy is born? He decided not to think about that. He and his morbid self though of Ancient Egypt's pharaoh and this nation was far too civilized for that. He looked around him and began to marvel at the expansive gardens surrounding the palace. "Well," he said to no one in particular, "women tend to love flowers. Usually anyway." He then walked on a small path to the palace. The path was lined with statues and fountains, all depicting female characters. Who these characters were Yusuf knew not, but he assumed that they were either national icons, Queens long since dead, or perhaps heroines from local mythology. When he arrived upon the Palace Portico, he was greeted by the Queen Yuuki and her wife Azuki. Same-sex reproduction, without a third party/anonymous donor, went against all known science in the Empire, yet here they managed to discover the secret. Yes, both nations would benefit greatly if any trade agreement arose from this message. Yusuf bowed respectfully and handed the shorter woman, whom he presumed incorrectly to be Queen Yuuki, the scroll which was sealed with the Imperial Coat of Arms.

She broke the seal, and the message said thus:

Her Most Regal Imperial Majesty Queen Yuki of the Yuri Kingdom, and Her Lovely Wife Queen Azuki,

In light of recent events, the Fascist American Empire has become interested in your nation. As you well know, your entire region was attacked by a deranged warmonger bent on world domination, yet immediately after our declaration of war to defend your lands, aforesaid warmonger immediately surrendered in terror, fleeing the world stage. Such an event can only signify the strength of the Empire and how it is in your country's best interest to forge an alliance with us. Certainly, a powerful nation such as the Yuri Kingdom could hold its own against such deranged lunatics as your past aggressor, however, why simply repel them when you can prevent their ever threatening you? I propose an arrangement most suitable for Your Majesties and invite you to spend three weeks within our borders, to discuss the details of this arrangement. I pray that you will accept my offer to at least listen to what I have to say.

His Imperial Majesty, Tsar Steven Lee I, Emperor of North America, Liberator From Corruption.

Azuki giggled and said "This is yours." Yuuki took the paper and began reading it. Azuki said "You Imperials didn't need to wear girl clothes to visit." Yuuki rolled her eyes and kept reading. "All those statues are heroines of Yuri Kingdom." Azuki said when she noticed how Yusuf was staring at all the statues and decorations." Several banners with the Yuri Kingdom Royal Crest on it hung from the walls. Yuuki suddenly pulled Azuki aside and they whispered for awhile. Then Yuuki said "We shall go to see your Tsar."

"Magnificent! The Tsar will be ecstatic to have the two of you come. I insist that you take my aircraft, so as to hasten the process. Everything will be provided for you at the Imperial Fortress in Gallifrey. Most likely that is where you are to go." He could hardly believe it. After just a few minutes of deliberation, they had agreed to come. "Also, this is just to make you aware of our laws and customs, this is not a skirt. It's a kilt. Men, especially those in high political office, are expected to wear a kilt and knee socks. Women may wear a kilt, but more often they wear pants. Backwards compared to most countries, but to us it just makes more sense. I intend no disrespect, I simply intended to educate you before throwing you to the wolves, as we say."

Then he decided to change the subject, "So, please tell me more about these statues, you said that they were Yuri heroines? I would love to hear the accounts of their bravery and honor."

Yuuki said "I'll get everything together." The Queen slipped out of the room to get everything ready. Azuki said "There I'll show you the the three most important before we go." Azuki pointed to a large statue of a woman, who was dressing in a loose fitting robe. The statue was made of granite. The woman had a determined face. In one hand was a map. Her other hand held a great sword. "That is Queen Suzuki Kirome. She explored the territory we are currently in and our land out east. She also protected this city in 1507.

The next statue was a woman in another loose fitting robe. Her statute was made of obsidian. She wore a slim grin that suggested she knew something you didn't.Behind her back was cocked flintlock pistol. That is Yui Antone. She was had the dirt on everyone in her time in 1784. She was a major General and secretly ran our spy rings."

The last one was made of gold. It showed a woman in yet another loose fitting robe. She held the banner of the Royal Family. The banner had two dragons on the edges with a sword in the middle. "This is the first Queen. She is Lyfa Mirize. She founded Yuri Kingdom as a refugee for females.

Yuuki reappeared with ten guards and two packed bags. "Let's go." She said.

The large building was about similar to the lower half of a pyramid with a large spire coming up from the centre courtyard. It was then surrounded by a wall three stories high. The Imperial Fortress was by far the most secure location in the entire city. The town was filled with parks and trees, but there was one skyscraper.

When they landed, the Tsar greeted them personally, surrounded by his Guards, "Greeting Imperial Yuuki. I take it your trip went well? Welcome to Gallifrey. Please note, this is not our most extravagant city, that would be Cherokee. We will go there for the Playwright Games by this time next week. Then you will see America in all of her glory."

"You are not being rude at all, it is quite a normal question that I myself would ask. I wanted to present you with a proposition. As you remember the mere threat of our involvement scared the attacking warmonger away from your empire's borders. Therefore, I ask to enter an alliance with you. One in both of our best interests." the Tsar smiled and continued, "Our cultures are quite similar. But for one very stark contrast we would be almost identical. Therefore, I would ask you to consider a military alliance that would also include a free-trade agreement and, as much as it is quite literally physically painful to say this, a semi-open border policy. Which will only be available for women of course." He nodded a few times then continued, "Now, we are going to the Playwright Games in order to display our cultural peak before a foreign Queen. In fact, it will be the first Playwright Game to be viewed by a foreigner. Now, it is quite similar to the Ancient Greek festivals celebrating the wine god Dionysus as playwrights and actors from across the Empire come to compete before the entire country and will be judged by a committee, a committee I invite you to join me on, Your Majesty, for if you are to stay for three weeks' time then you must be entertained. I know that this time of year is my only time of rest, and I wish to share it with a ruler who, I am certain is as tired as I. Before that, however, I will present my entire military force before you as tomorrow is Coup Day, our national holiday, and our military will parade through Gallifrey. I wish for our mighty, powerful, world-influencing lands to become friends. The closets of friends. As I have stated, our nations are quite comparable. If you wish to debate politics while you are here then you are welcome to it. But tonight," he turned before his Imperial Guard and his Fortress Staff, "we celebrate! Have a banquet prepared with the finest pasta in the Empire, sweets and chocolates beyond compare! The freshest seafood on the market!"

The staff then ran to their vehicles to carry out his wishes with haste. The Tsar then turned back to face the Queen and her wife, "Shall the three of us walk? Bring your guards if you wish. If it is scenery that you enjoy, we have it in many places, Gallifrey being built upon the slopes of the Appalachian Mountains. If you desire art, we have a small collection, as the majority is in Cherokee, since it is our 'cultural capital' shall we say? While we travel we may discuss politics. I may even show you the Imperial Academy of the Magnificent Children of Gallifrey should we come upon it. I do ask youth join me, as I am going to walk anyway, it is good for my arthritis, but if you desire rest after your arduous journey then you and your wife may go on to your chamber. I will have my men-in-waiting escort you. Or the ladies-in-waiting if you prefer."

Finally, Crown Prince Steven Lee II, who had been standing silently off to the side the entire time, finally spoke, "Please miladies, allow me to take your bags." he said, bowing respectfully.

"Ah yes, and this is my son, Crown Prince Steven Lee II." the Tsar continued, "However, contrary to what you may believe, he is not the second, nor am I the first. I am, in all actuality, Steven Lee V, while my son is Steven Lee VI. The name has been in our family for generations, needless to say, but seeing as ho I am the first to become an emperor, they simply consider me 'The First.' Confusing even for me, I know, but it makes sense to the people."

Yuuki handed Steven Jr. Azuki and her own bags. "So far your proposed allicane sounds reasonable. We shall go into more detail of this later of course. But now we shall walk with you as you suggested. Show me those views you have here." Azuki whispered "I want to see the art." Yuuki sighed and said "Show us the art you have here." Yuuki snapped her fingers and her guards clicked their heels together, arms at their sides. Yuuki said "I will allow you to have tonight off." The guards saluted and walked off. Tsar Steven started leading the Queen and Princess to the art museum. "If you don't mind me asking where did this art?" Azuki asked

The art is within the Gallifreyan branch of the Grand Musée d'Art et Culture Which is settle right along a magnificent peak giving you a marvelous view of the valley below. Best of both worlds, one may say. Come, it is not to far from here. Only half a kilometer." As he started walking, the Imperial Bodyguard regiment started to march with him, but the Tsar simply said to them, "Go home to your families. I trust our guests and I expect you to do the same."

The Guards raised their left hands in salute before turning and marching to the barracks to remove their uniforms, change back into civilian clothing, and start the drive home.

"Come, we'll walk to the Grand Musée d'Art et Culture. We'll pass by a few notable locations on the way." the Tsar then led the small procession, almost unrecognizable in the waning light, to the promised museum. It was not but a few hundred meters before recounting, "Ah, yes. That is the park where I was coronated. You see that statue of Napoleon Bonaparte? Yes, that is where I became, much to my surprise, Emperor of our country. However, at the time I had to be a more militarized dictator due to Pro-Republic counter-revolutionaries. Thankfully they are extinct as a political sect, so fanatical they could almost be called a cult. Although, our official name for them was simply 'terrorists.' There is the museum! Right before us! Just a few hundred more meters." I can guarantee that you will be pleased by our humble collection of artifacts here, but over in Cherokee, it is as far from humble as you can get." The Tsar laughed and continued, "I suppose it would befit me to be called a Renaissance man: as I am a proud supporter of the arts, science, and a man of faith." Then he realized who he was talking to and clarified, "However, unlike the religious whack jobs without a clue as to what they are doing, I find nothing in the Christian scripture about homosexuality. In fact, I am often in attendance to same-sex weddings, and one time even led the ceremony. Another service we could provide for your people. Ah, here's the door."

The guard saluted the Tsar saying, "Hail Steven Lee I! Emperor of North America, Liberator of Mexico, Tsar of the Empire, His Imperial Majesty! May G-d grant you long life, Sir!"

"Hail." the Tsar replied, returning the salute. "I have brought foreign rulers, the Queens of the Yuri Empire, to present our cultural affluence before bringing them with me to Cherokee. I trust you will let them in?"

"Aye sir! Hail Their Majesties!"

"Good man. Open the door now, won't you Jacob?"

"Aye sir!" the guard, apparently named Jacob, answered before swiping his security card and handing it to the Tsar. "Enjoy yourselves."

"Good man."

The Tsar, the Queen, and the Princess then entered the museum, only to be greeted by a massive sculpture of St. Catherine of Bologna, patron saint of art. "Let us begin the tour." the Tsar said with a short nod as he grabbed three headsets for the audio tour. Their first stop was, of course, Republic-era art, including the portrait of George Washington saved by the First Lady Madison from the British flames in the War of 1812. There was Washington Crossing the Deleware, Lincoln's portrait, a bust of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and a life-sized statue of Ronald Reagan. Paintings abounded within the halls, ranging from the Enlightenment, to realism, to romantic art. Native American art was massively present in the museum.

Vincent Van Gough had an entire hall dedicated to his paintings alone. The original Starry Night was the chief exhibit. Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings were set in the next hall over. After that were purely American, Mexican, and Canadian artists. Finally, after three hours they departed that half of the museum and entered the Acquired Art section.

The Thinker, purchased from the Louvre just three years after the Coup, was the first thing they saw, immediately followed by Michelangelo's David. Afterward, there were several paintings from the Sotoan Union, China, Colombia, Persian tapestries, more Native American art, Incan and Mayan woodworks. Buddhas abounded in the East Asia section. A portrait, abet not very lifelike, of Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di, the first man to unify China. There was the Bayeux Tapestry and Zulu carvings; African tribal fetishes and bits of Imperialism-era art.

Finally, there was the Modern Art. The Tsar never seemed to understand why you could glue a rock to a shoe and call it art nowadays, but this was an art museum. "And here we have the one place I never really bothered with in this entire museum. The Modern Art Section. It is small, and we have seen most everything of importance so this will not take long." He then noticed the two women were quite weary, probably due to the haphazard design of the museum and the dozens of ramps. The poor girls, they had to walk all the way back. Perhaps he would signal a vehicle to take them back to the Fortress.. To him, however, it was energizing. The motion helped to ease his arthritis pain and gave him energy, he never knew why, he just knew it did. "Now, as for our agreement, I would like to discuss the details over tonight's dinner. Until then, please enjoy this very... unique, section."

As they entered the area it was very odd "sculptures" by artists who were all but unknown, yet for some odd reason the curators of the museum believed it art. A "robot" built of hubcaps and oil cans, a body cast with random paint splattered on it, all sorts of random odds and ends. However, there was one, quite possibly the most elegant painting in the entire museum. The Tsar, dressed in but blue jeans and a plaid button-up shirt, being offered the crown. The people around him offered him money, gold, and finally a crown, similar to that of the British monarchy, upon a red pillow.

"Huh, never seen that painting before." He then took a closer look at the crown. "Well, they got the crown wrong, whoever they are. What I was really handed was a ball cap that they just said was a crown. Then again, hehe, most artists tend to exaggerate thing a bit."

All said and done, the entire trip took about six hours, with the Tsar answering what few questions they had about the art and how he acquired it. Most was purchased, but some was taken as the spoils of war. When they finally reached the door, an Imperial Grade Luxury Vehicle awaited the women. "You two go ahead and ride the car, I will walk back."

The Tsar shrugged, "As you wish," he replied, helping first the Princess and then the Queen into the Luxury Vehicle. The inside looked quite spacious due to the mirrors at the far end. there was a small sofa at each side with a wide enough walkway between. "Please, sit. Experience the marvel that is American engineering."

Upon sitting, the Tsar pressed a button that raised a short little table where the women placed their purses. "Would you like some beverages? I could tell that the journey and the tour has weakened you. Most soldiers would begin to feel slightly weary after all of that." A butler brought in a pitcher of sweet tea and tall glasses. "Thank you, Michael."

"You are welcome Your Majesty." the butler said quickly before departing. "We shall dine at the palace, but until then, I will show you the city. You see, After the Coup, the Old Republic, although knowing it was defeated, decided to bring the entire country to chaos. In order to more easily defend ourselves, we built our capital in the mountains. So far, it's worked for Kathmandu, Nepal, why not Gallifrey? thus, we began construction of the Common Sector first. In fact, we are passing through it right now." He then pressed another button and opened the windows. "You see, we based the houses on old Swiss-German cottages which eventually became the stately townhouses you see today." And over there is the Governmental Sector! Nearby the Common Sector so as to give any Government employees quick and easy access to their workplace should an emergency come up. Here we have the Internal Budget Management Bureau, and over there is the Imperial Intelligence Bureau. Simple and everyday branches of government found in every nation. Which reminds me, the Old Republic did have this alliance known as 'Five-Eyes' in which America, Canada, Britain, Australia, and... Oh, I forget the fifth one, I always forget the fifth one. Anyway, it was an alliance that supposedly shared all of its intelligence on foreign threats between the five most powerful, English-Speaking nations in the world. Just thought that that would be interesting to point out. I am a historian at heart and actually taught a High School history class before the Coup. Oh! And there we have Liberty Tower. It was constructed as both a monument to our newly regained freedom from corruption and to serve as the centre for all of our economic dealings. Not too far away we have the Imperial Academy of the Magnificent Children of Gallifrey, the most prestigious school in the entire Empire with branches stretching from Nova Scotia to Belize, from Puerto Rico to the Philippines." Ah, here we are, back at the Imperial Fortress." The two women took up their purses as the Tsar lowered the table back into the floor and exited the Luxury Vehicle last.

"Dinner will be in thirty minutes Milord."

"Thank you Ioseph. I will be sure to be ready prior to then."

"Aye sir!"

The Crown Prince, as though a servant, offered, "Queens Yuuki, Azuki, may I escort you to your chamber?"

They were then taken up into the Fortress itself; the Foyer was extravagant. Stained Glass windows depicting historical figures, mythological scenes, and scientific discoveries. Statues of Ivan Grozny, Napoleon Bonaparte, Catherine the Great, Elizabeth I, and Ronald Reagan were spaced every three meters on both sides. Paintings of the Tsar were rare, the Crown Prince slightly more common but then almost everywhere was some woman that not even the guards could identify. The Crown Prince seemed as though he knew, but sorrow could be seen in his eyes when asked, so the Queens just dropped the subject. The halls were almost invariably either made from marble or limestone, so seamless that it almost seemed as though they were not several pieces, but were simply massive stones which were hollowed out. On pedestals were busts of Socrates, Plato, Alexander the Great, Tutankhamen, and Lincoln. The Foyer itself was almost a miniaturized art museum in itself. Finally, two cherubim were at the foot of the marble stairwell.

The Prince led them up to the top floor of the pyramidal base and showed them to their room. The floors were a magnificent tile with persian rugs on both sides of the bed and at the door. A vanity, large enough for two people to use at the same time, was a granite top with the mirrors built into the stone. At the far end of the room was a bookshelf which took up half of the wall, filled with texts from every corner of the Earth, in several different languages from Japanese to Zulu to Norwegian to English and back again. The books were nonfiction, consisting of many different subject from art and philosophy to history to science to engineering. The rest were fiction from over a dozen different genres. The predominant colour of the room was a mauve shade with a floral bedspread and a fruit bowl on the table near the bookshelf with a tiny welcome note stuck among the apples and bananas. The dressers were nearby the vanity, giving each their own dresser. As a whole, the room consisted of 70 square meters, larger than even the Tsar's own bedchamber, he was so obsessed with keeping guests happy, and the furniture took up about 10 square meters.

Then there was a bathroom with every luxury imaginable in the next room over, accessible only from two doors at each side of the bed. The bathroom was about half the size of the bedroom and had a two square meter tub built into the floor up against the left wall, with two separate water closets at the far end of the room. Then there was a massive shower with eight different heads all around the walls and with a small tile bench within it. There were two sinks made from brass with a considerable amount of space in between and a mirror which took up the entire wall, even going beyond the counters and ending only at the wall which isolated the water closet. The room was stocked with fresh cotton towels to last beyond the time that the Queens were to stay, but again, it was built for guests of the Tsar as an entirety, not specifically for them.

"Miladies will be summoned at dinner." the Crown Prince said, bowing out of respect, as he had been taught to do since his father had become Tsar almost ten years ago. He then left the Queens to rest and settle before the banquet. Their bags waiting for them to unpack and put away however they wished in the floor at the foot of the bed.

"Holy crap this is a big room." Azuki said. Quickly Azuki rushed into the bath and started it up. "Really Azuki? Just bathe after dinner." Yuuki said. Azuki replied "You can be all smelly for dinner but I will smell nice." Yuuki came over in a towel and said "Fine move over a second." Yuuki quickly rised off and dried off. Still wrapped in a towel she began looking through the closet. Azuki pouted "That wasn't even a bath Yuuka-chan." Yuuki teased Azuki "Oh shush it's not a swimming pool." Azuki was actually swimming in the bath tube. Azuki said "Baths are meant to be long." Yuuki lifted a red dress to show Azuki. It was red velvet with white silk ribbons on it. "How's this one?" Azuki looked up and smirked "It won't fit you around here." Azuki made circles around her chest to make a point. Yuuki sighed "Azuki be serious." Azuki said "It looks fine why do you always have to make sure everything you wear is perfect?" Yuuki answered "We are representing the monarchs of Yuri Kingdom and we are judged by our wear and behavior." Yuuki slipped into te dress and began to curl her hair. "I'll do that!" Azuki shouted. Azuki normally curled Yuuki's hair. "No you're all wet." Yuuki said. Azuki rose out of the bath and dried off. "Wait right here." Azuki told Yuuki. Azuki put on a simple yellow silk dress and hurried back in to curl Yuuki's hair. "I'm going to ask Steven about his plan again at dinner. I can understand the military allicane and I propose our armies do training missions together and that we have a defense pact. I also I agree we could use more trade deals so I support that no problem but why open borders. I wouldn't mind letting both American women and men in to visit but does he want jobs in our kingdom? I'm afraid I want our women to get those jobs first." Azuki smiled "You think to much." Yuuki kissed Azuki's cheek, and said "Come on we're going to be late for dinner." The two women got lost in the massive palace in it's long halls of statues and paintings to the leaders of history. Finally they found the dining room.

The Imperial Bodyguard was in a panic. Queens Yuuki and Azuki were nowhere to be found. When the Guard had been dispatched to their room to take the Queens to the dinner, but found the door only barely closed, and vacant of its occupants. The Guards who were sent reported back to the Captain. He wasn't going to like this. Not at all. What if they had been kidnapped? Oh G-d! If they had been kidnapped by Pro-Republic insurgents! They dashed down to the barracks three floors down.

Imperial Bodyguard Red Barracks

"How do you lose two women!" the Captain screamed. "I want every square nanometer of the city searched! The Tsar cannot, let me repeat that, cannot find out! I want them found before the banquet! Go! NOW!"
The Imperial Bodyguard immediately ran to scour every nook and cranny of the Imperial Fortress, once the Queens were found whoever located them was to signal the rest of the Bodyguard. They were almost to the point of calling a CODE YELLOW situation, although how they were supposed to keep the Tsar blissfully unaware was a mystery. Bodyguard detachments scoured the palace, looking in every closet, being unimaginably tempted to hit the emergency lever and shut the two ton steel doors that were present in every hallway and of course the gates. But they hadn't used that since the Tsar was almost during the Sotoan Wars. That was almost the only time permission was given. Panic ensued among the ranks.

The Banquet Hall

Tsar Steven Lee I supervised the setting of the table. It was incredibly tiny for royalty, but it was only going to sit three people. Extra courses would be brought by the Tsar's son. Although most monarchs, or even democratically elected officials, that the young man, being groomed for the crown/ball cap, should be made to be little more than a butler. But what was a dictator but a butler? Except instead of serving one man or family, he would serve 1.7 billion people. It was almost time to summon them, wasn't it? He should dispatch an escort. Oh, wait, he already did. They should be back soon. Then he saw them come into the door, "Ah! Your Majesties, I just sent a regiment to escort you here. I apologize if you became lost." Then after he saw to their seating at the triangular table he thought aloud, "You know, they're probably in a panic." He then faced the Queens, "If you'll excuse me. I'll make the Guards aware of your presence."

The Imperial Courtyard

The Captain picked up his radio. It was the Tsar. This wasn't going to be good. He'd be lucky if he got out with just a lashing. Most likely, easy-going as the Tsar may be, his temper would flare to extraordinary heights. The Captain might even end up being crucified for all he knew. It hadn't happened yet, but a notorious child rapist was almost crucified. "Y-yes, Your M-M-Majesty?" the Captain shakily gulped.

"Yes, I want you to alert the Guards that the Queens are here. They can stop looking for them now."

"Oh thank G-d!" the Captain hollered laughing, quickly regaining his composure, he continued, "I will be sure to do that sir."

"Good man."

The Banquet Hall

Hanging up, the Tsar chuckled, "If I know the Captain, I know that he very nearly called out a CODE YELLOW situation. Don't worry, he's just a worry-wart. Now, let us discuss the details of this arrangement." He then pulled out a case, in it was an unimaginable amount of maps, charts, pie graphs, bar graphs, and even a model of the city of Gallifrey. "Now, we- ah! I see that the linguini is ready to be served. Lovely dress choices by the way. Son!"

"Yes father?" the twenty-three-year-old replied with dignity. Here he was, dressed as a mere servant and still having the demeanor of a king. He had a pot of linguini while the actual servants set the plates and silverware and the Crown Prince served the pasta.

"Pasta is a staple dish in your nation, correct?" the Tsar said with a slight tone of optimistic concern. The poor man just wanted to make them feel welcome.

"Of course! This is a banquet, not one of those overpriced restaurants where you get a bite-sized snack for three hundred fisches. Partake as much as you want!" the Tsar said smiling as more linguini was scooped onto her plate.

The the Tsar looked to Yuuki. "Now, these Playwright Games are a special occurrence. Once a year, every year, we have actors and playwrights from across the empire come to compete. However, they compete as provinces. But not their province of resident, mind you. If such were the case then only California and Florida would ever have contestants. Rather, they are based on province of birth. Playwrights and actors are thrown into teams and must work together to achieve victory. The winners have their names, province, and the year of the Games carved into the wall that is outside the Theatron, in Cherokee Oklahoma. They do this mostly for glory, but there is a small cash prize as well. We based it off of the Ancient Greek festivals celebrating Dionysus, the god of wine, ecstasy, and ceremonial madness. Essentially the party god. However, we obviously do not celebrate this god but rather our nation's culture. While the actors prepare to act, several other smaller acts come to entertain the audience, and the judges. Such acts include tricks of illusion, music, dance, or instrumental gifts. I will be one of the judges and every year I pick two more. Seeing as how this will be the first Playwright Games to be viewed by foreigners, I would hope that it would be deemed fit that the two of you help me with this endeavor. The best of the smaller acts get a small cash award and a little bronze trophy that looks gold. However, I will warn you, there are inevitably a group of nitwits who think they have talent and try to do a skit before the act. Thats why we'll have a trapdoor for acts that we don't like, but it requires a unanimous button pushing by the judges. Don't worry, if you two don't like it, I probably won't. I am extremely picky when it comes to the small acts. Also, they would all be honored to preform in front of not one, but three monarchs."

Then came the seafood platter for the Tsar. Mahi-Mahi on a bed of rice. As he ate every night.

The dessert platter came out for the Queens, however. Mountains of ice cream of every flavor imaginable and sweet pastries piled to their necks once put on the table. There was even a twenty-two kilogram chocolate cake. Jelly-filled donuts by the gross, petite-fours by the dozens, small pies and cakes, and more ice cream. Once placed upon the table, a second and even third needed to be brought out in order to hold everything and still allow the Tsar and two Queens a place to sit.

Azuki's eyes lit up and she began piling her plate with dessert. Yuuki took a little ice cream and continued to speak to Steven. "I am honored that you would allow us to judge the games, although we don't really have anything like this back in Yuri Kingdom. So our opinions may not be worth much." Azuki was already reaching for seconds. Under her breath Yuuki said "Where does she put it?"

Azuki was already reaching for seconds. Under her breath Yuuki said "Where does she put it?"

"Nonsense!" the Tsar replied, "Surely if you have ever seen a movie or either read or watched a play then you know good acting and writing from bad! Sometimes, although these instances are very rare, the prizes for Best Cast is not always from the same provincial team as Best Playwright. of course, that has only ever happened once." He looked out the corner of his eye to Princess Azuki, "How is that woman so skinny? Does she have the metabolism of a rabbit?" He did not say this aloud of course, but nothing could stop him from thinking it. "So," he continued, aloud, "Your opinions are worth more than you realize."

Then he propped his head on his right hand as an aide came and whispered into his ear, "Milord. There is an urgent matter we need you to address."

"What is it?" he whispered sharply back. The aide handed him a slip of paper. The left-handed Tsar then read the issue and took out a pen that he had hidden in his hat and signed it then sent the aide away. Turning back to the Queens he said, "Sorry about that. As you well know a monarch's work is never done. I, being a family man, see it comparable to raising a small child. It needs near constant attention, otherwise she'll put a fork in the power socket. Now, as for the Games, I assure you that these games will be more oriented around the two of you, rather than the actors. The first foreigners, the first foreign leaders to ever view the occurrence!" Then he, only half-jokingly, said "Who knows, maybe our alliance will lead to Yuri actresses and writers competing in the plays."

"Remind me next year and I'll sent some yuri girls to take part in the play." Azuki had gone through thirds when finally yawned, stretched, rested her head on the table and went to sleep. "That's how she says she loved your food" Yuuki said. Yuuki stood up and bowed to the Tsar "Thank you for this meal. I'll bring Azuki up to our room good night." Yuuki scooped up Azuki and said "She has lighting fast meitabolizm." Yuuki walke all the way back to their room and when she got there she closed the door. Then she undressed Azuki and put her in a nightgown. Then Yuuki undressed herself and put on a nightgown. Yuuki turned down the bed and put Azuki in first and then got in herself. Azuki cuddled up to rest her head near Yuuki's chest and Yuuki put arm around Azuki. Then they when to sleep.

Imperial Hangar

The next morning was all running about. The Imperial jet had to be prepared for four as opposed to just two this year. The trip to Oklahoma would be long and the royalty aboard had to have every comfort possible. Leather couches (fit for air travel), a miniature refrigerator, three servants, and plenty of storage space fort baggage were all the first things to be put on the plane. Finally, the jet was fueled up and ready to go. The Tsar and the Crown Prince made themselves comfortable in the plane and sent two Guards to fetch the Queens.

"Aye Sir." they said in unison, before going back into the Fortress. Unfortunately, they were the two nitwits whom the rest of the Guard secretly called 'Dumb' and 'Dumber.' If they passed the entrance exams, then it was only barely. This wasn't going to end well.

The Queens' Chamber

An Imperial Guard knocked on the Queens' door. No answer. He looked at his counter-part next to him. The other man shrugged. The first Guard knocked again, harder and louder this time, "Your Majesties?" he called. Still no answer. He was conflicted, as his job told him to open the door and check on their safety, but his morality told him that they were women and should be left alone. After all, if the Guard walked in on them changing, it would be an international incident, and you can bet your life that the Tsar would publicly shame the "Pervert Who Watched Two Foreign Queens." He shuddered at the thought. Of course, they did like pasta. "Wait here." he told the other Guard, "I'll be right back." A few minutes later he had an orange candle and a lighter. "Open the door."

The other Guard did not like what he was seeing, but he followed orders and cracked the door open just a wee bit. The first Guard then lit the candle and held it in the room. The second, sniffing, asked, "Lasagna? You have a candle that smells like lasagna?"

"Hey, you got a better idea?"

"Well, no."

"Okay then. They like pasta, lasagna's a pasta. It's like you waking up the second you smell pancakes!"

"Okay then!"

Yuuki has up and in the bathroom putting on a blue linen dress dotted with white cotten flowers. after her shower. Azuki was just barely stirring. Then Azuki smelled pasta. "Pasta~" she said. Azuki crawled out of bed and opened the door and ran pass the guards running in her nightgown yelling "Pasta!" The guards chased after her but lost her in a turn and then found the Queen and Princess' door locked again. Azuki had slipped back in. "No pasta" Azuki pouted and went back to sleep. Yuuki snatched up Azuki made her undressed and shower and then put a green silk gown on. The gown also had sparkles. Then Azuki went back to sleep so Yuuki just carried her out the door bridal style. "Where is the plane?" Yuuki asked the guards.

"Just follow me!" The tall thin, one (Dumb) answered, heading the completely wrong direction.

"Bah, don't listen to him. He's just an idiot who's going the wrong way," the shorter, fatter one said. "Follow me."

"Oh-ho!" Dumb answered, twirling in mid-step, "I'm the idiot? I'm sorry, who taught you to make chicken noodle soup in a bathtub?!"

"You did."

"Exactly!" Dumb replied, knocking Dumber's helmet.

"Hey! I kept you from getting a restraining order!" Dumber snapped back, giving Dumb a good knock.

"I didn't know she was my cousin!" Dumb screamed whilst pouncing on Dumber.

The Imperial Hangar

The Tsar was pacing. He never paced when he was calm. Finally, he asked the Captain, "I sent Dumb and Dumber, didn't I?"

"I think so sir. I would have warned you if I recognized them sir."

The Tsar cursed, another rarity, "Go get the Queens."

"Yes sir."

Yuuki and Azuki (awoken by the fighting) stood awkwardly watching Dumber and Dumb fighting. A tall man cam out and said "Ignore them come with me." The women followed him and he said "The plane is waiting for you madams. You're the first foreign Queens to use it." Azuki smirked. She wasn't a Queen but she was enjoying the attention. The women boarded the plane and gasped at the beauty of it. "Leather couches!" Azuki exclaimed. Azuki curled up on one and bounced up and down energetic. "Yuuki-chan! Cuddle with me!" Azuki grabbed Yuuki's arm and tugged her down on the couch with her. Azuki wrapped her arms around Yuuki and Yuuki said "This is a nice plane. I suppect the city is similar?"

"This plane will look like a rusty old jalopy by comparison with the city of Cherokee." the Guard said, smiling underneath his helmet. "Believe me, it would make the city of Rome, in all of her former glory, look like a small dingy hamlet. I'd best leave the actual description to your own eyes."

"Yes Captain, that would be wise." the Tsar said from bend the Captain, "Wouldn't want to spoil the surprise now would we?"

"Nay sir."

"Good man. Is everything set?"

"Aye sir."

"Good. We will depart then Captain."

"Aye sir." the Captain replied, obediently getting off of the plane. Afterwards, the jet engines roared to life as the aircraft soared up into the sky.

The Tsar sat down on one of the sable leather seats, facing the Queens. "I take it you like the jet?"
