News from home. Our nation stands united today in support of the Sunrisian LGBT community, as the parliament has handed over the issue of same-sex marriage into the hands of the Supreme Court. The diplomats stated that the legislation on same-sex marriage law in Sunrisia has already been prepared by the legislators and that it is now time for the Supreme Court to decide whether they will allow a historic nationwide social change or whether they will insist on keeping things as they are. President Sánît Béâtídá was said to have contacted the Supreme Court justices and due to the head of state or anybody else not having a legal right to influence the Supreme Court’s decisions in any way, the President simply gave a vague statement where he said that he hoped for the Supreme Court justices to think about the Sunrisian people in that key moment when they will be making the decision and to have the citizens’ wishes in their minds and hearts, when giving that legislative verdict.
The coalition government and the parliamentarians are keeping a neutral tone and say that the legislation is “hot and ready” and that the parliament will vote based on what the Supreme Court will decide. The coalition government received criticism from some notorious Sunrisian social activists for not going the route originally planned and holding a national referendum on the matter, then allowing the Supreme Court and the parliament make a decision based on the referendum results, like it was done in Creperia, when that country legalized same-sex marriage. The diplomats responded by saying that a referendum was not needed as the Sunrisian public opinion was clear as crystal and that it was now the responsibility of the Supreme Court to show how well they listen to the people and how functional they are in making important decisions with respect to Sunrisian democracy and wishes of our citizens.
Meanwhile, millions of people across the country have flooded the streets wielding various symbols of LGBT as a show of solidarity and support for equal rights in our nation. The demonstrations are peaceful, but because of their scope and unpredictability, the authorities remain on some level of alert. The demonstrations are expected continue, until the Supreme Court makes the decision. The leaders and the more vocal members of the demonstrations have made a promised by one-sided initiative to keep the demonstrations peaceful, in order not to create an atmosphere, where the Supreme Court is blackmailed into taking a decision against their best judgment, despite so many people clearly wanting the events to take a certain awaited turn. For now, we are left with nothing, but to observe these historic developments. Stay tuned as we continue the broadcast and the coverage.
