Edereon makes changes to the Ederi nationality law, removing old restrictions and adding some new benefits. The decision was made and the legislation for the new law was approved yesterday by the parliamentary body. In its new form, the amended Ederi nationality law from now exists as follows:
1. Birth:
A child acquires Ederi citizenship automatically if:
- One of the parents is an Ederi citizen at the time of the child's birth.
2. Adoption:
A child who is aged under 14 and who has been adopted by an Ederi citizen automatically receives Ederi citizenship upon adoption if:
- The child has been adopted as the result of a decision taken in Edereon.
- The child has been adopted as the result of a decision taken abroad and approved in Edereon.
- The adoption is valid under Ederi law.
3. Naturalization as an Ederi citizen:
Ederi citizenship can be acquired by naturalization, also known as citizenship by application.
A foreigner may be granted Ederi citizenship upon meeting certain requirements, including:
- Holding a permanent residence permit.
A number of exemptions apply to the residence period:
- The residence period is reduced to 4 years for recognized refugees and stateless people.
- Former Ederi citizens.
- Those employed abroad by Ederi corporations.
- A person with previous long residence in Edereon.
4. Citizenship by notification:
Stateless people:
A stateless person may acquire Ederi citizenship by notification if that person has a permanent resident permit and falls into one of the following categories:
- Born in Edereon and aged less than 6.
- Aged under 20 and in the custody of an Ederi citizen.
- Aged 18, 19, 20 and resident in Edereon since age 14.
Young people resident in Edereon:
Ederi citizenship may be acquired by notification by young people who hold a permanent resident permit in the following cases:
- Born in Edereon and aged less than 6.
- Aged under 20 and resident in Edereon for 3 years.
- Aged 18, 19, 20, where the person has been resident in Edereon since turning 14.
Former Ederi citizens:
Former Ederi citizens who hold permanent resident permits may acquire Ederi citizenship by notification if the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Aged 16 or over.
- Resident in Edereon for 10 years preceding age 18.
- Resident in Edereon for the 2 years preceding the application.
5. Multiple citizenship:
An Ederi citizen acquiring a foreign citizenship does not lose Ederi citizenship. There is no limit on how many foreign citizenships may a person acquire in total.
