Hey guys, should I change my nation title from "Democratic Utopian Republic" to "Synthtopian Republic"? It would accurately portray Planeia's ideology of Synthtopia-- Utopia achieved through science, technology, intellect and the advancement of knowledge-- rather than plain old Utopia. The problem, however, lies in having to edit current threads and factbook for the name change.

Also, I can't fit "Democratic" in the box, and that's a problem because democratic would accurately indicate that power ultimately and absolutely lies in the hands of the people. Planeia is merely a republic for the sole fact that the average Joezorg doesn't have time to debate for hours at the local council hall, or even via holochat; no amount of technology can change the hours of research that goes into staying sufficiently informed politically (unless, of course, people beam info to their heads, which we totally have, but that still leaves behind opinion formulation which is achieved through years of political socialization), and so the people elect representatives to the High Council to legislate on their behalf, and only on their behalf (you won't find no Electoral College to swing, or popular vote to undermine here. I'm looking at you, Bush!). The people are allowed to intervene whenever they wish, either through the general referendum, or a petition and then a subsequent midterm referendum. If a representative or senator so much as questions his or her constituents that elected him or her in, i.e. given the privilege to be their voice, the constituents have the right to sack him or her on the spot, through petition or the provincial referendum.

So in a nutshell, "Sythtopian Republic" reflects our ideology, and it sounds cool, but we lose DEMAHCRESEE!

Synthtopian Republic sounds good. There isn't any reason to change all the prior threads. You can either switch to the new pre-title without any explanation or you can RP it through a factbook entry (the citizens put forth the legislation and voted upon it, thus it's now official).
