Here in Pavonistade, the scientific community uses the name Solanum to refer to the zombie agent. This would be a virus that will be affecting not only Pavonistade but also countless other nations. But chances are that the zombie-generating menace could be something other than a virus...

The following is classified information and is not to be released for public usage or displayed in any public place at any time or in any situation. Doing so will be considered an act of war and the Victory Corporation shall respond with extreme force and prejudice.

The Victory Corporation has, for the past several months, been working on a biological solution, whether permanent or temporary, to cure death for troops in the field, reanimating their bodies and restoring the functioning of their brains. After years of initial conceptualization and experimentation, there was success. However, all test subjects since expired after several hours of walking around in a dreamlike state. At first, the thought was that the effect could only be temporary and the serum was improved to introduce stimulants and hormones into the subject's brain to make them highly aggressive. Test subjects still expired, but often beat on the walls and sometimes caused early expiration by actually destroying themselves attempting to escape the secure testing room.

Under unknown circumstances, at least one subject escaped and is thought to have infected a small town on the outskirts of the Victory Corporation with a population of approximately ten-thousand. Current reports indicate that the entire population has been infected and/or killed. More interesting, is that the unintended subjects have not expired after several days, and can apparently spread the effect through bites and sometimes scratches that make contact with and tear open the skin. It is believed that the "infection" will stay active as long as the infected under its control are still active and able to infect more people. While this may suggest rudimentary intelligence, it can also be attributed to instinct and the natural properties of the infected.

Currently, no subjects have been acquired for vivisection/dissection, though the "horde" of infected from the town are currently advancing towards the city of Dome. Defenses are being set up, but as of yet it is unsure whether the infected can be staved off completely.

Officially it is known as 16-1024-64-80 or the "Red Death", an infectious disease doubtless discovered on one of the outer worlds and making inroads at an alarming rate.

Unofficially and secretly it is acknowledged that it was among the many advanced bio-weapons being developed at Site-128 and being tested on civilians obtained from the nearby planets. The research program was quite evidently a bit too successful in it's developments, creating a super-plague that could travel in spores through space. The plague infected the staff of the facility causing their deaths and a series of outbreaks on the nearby planets. The problem was thought to be exterminated through the use of cobalt bombs and the lab was shutdown over 100 years ago; however, it now seems the spores have reached their destinations.
