For some reason my super weapon is hordes, even though I've chosen extermination. Help?

Same here. I believe the development of the superweapons (other that hordes) takes a (considerable?) amount of time.

I don't have a good feeling about this. What happens if my entire population is infected? Is it possible to lose my nation because of this? (If you can't already tell, this is my first time dealing with a zombie apocalypse).

Nope, there are no permanent effects on your nation. You can just ignore the entire thing and be fine if you want to (although your fellow regional members might get kinda pissed by such non-action, depending on which region you're in) so it's advised to do what most of your region is doing. Curing, exterminating or embracing, whatever floats your boat.

Yeah, hordes will develop alongside your infected population. Cure Missiles correlate with your number of survivors. Extermination squads level up as more dead pile up. You can do nothing and still get hordes.

Out of the past three years, twice I haven't been able to get on for the first 24 hours because of real life work obligations. As a result, my nation got over run with zombies and overall I was left with really no options and ultimately just ignored the whole thing. Here's a suggestion for the site operators: let us pre-choose which option we're going to follow. Otherwise there's no fun to be had for those of us who can't guarantee an opportunity to get on everyday.
