Honestly, way to make a complaint over nothing. I know some Australian Greens supporters have a habit of doing that but, seriously.

If you don't like imagining big bad zombies eating your cutie race of people, then my advice is too cover your eyes, or just ignore it happening. You are under no obligation to play it as NS canon, in effect, there is a way to opt-out, you just don't need to press a button to do it.

The moderators are probably doing you a favour by saving you the trouble of needing to click one, I would advice spending more time complaining about issues that are actually going to be of importance to you personally. (Tip: This is pretty low on scale of importance)

Except I am obliged because the NUMBERS ARE THERE ON MY PAGE. And I can't just ignore it, in my mind I know the numbers are going on, whether I look at the screen or not.

If I wanted to make my own world, I wouldn't have bothered to go on this website. In fact I've designed a planet Quilavaland seperate from my nation here which I don't plan to risk entering in any online game.

I came here because I wanted to play a nonviolent political simulation game, without all the war and invasions. Clearly, I was lied to about that.

It's too late to leave now because I'm so invested in this website and I like everything except the zombies, but I feel betrayed. Either put the zombies in the FAQ, or make an opt-out, that's it.

Don't make false claims about being a game not focused on wars.

Also, if opt-outs are so useless, why do they exist for EVERY OTHER FEATURE OF THE SITE?

Also I'd like to mention this has nothing to do with me supporting the Greens, they are logical, not emotional. They support action on climate change because evidence shows it's happening. They support gay marriage because evidence shows it's no different to normal marriage. They support free dental care because it will improve peoples' health.

Conservatives are emotional, complaining about gay marriage when, and I quote you here, they are "under no obligation" to participate in it. And they whine about the economy, which, as it's all just digital data and bits of metal and paper, is "imaginary", so they shouldn't be worried about it.

It's your own fault then for imagining that these "numbers on your screen" (which you don't have to look at) have any meaning to you more than what you give it. You are giving meaning to it by not ignoring it so it's your own fault you're so wound up about it. How about you stop focusing on it so much? IGNORE IT!

NOTHING HAPPENS! It's only thirty-six hours long, happens once a year and is reset by the end of it! Tell your grandmother it's a temporary minigame which she doesn't have to participate in, and if you don't like it then don't participate yourself. You can't survive without going on NS for longer than thirty-six hours? You can't handle that your Quilavas aren't real and they're not actually zombies?

I CAN'T ignore it. Emotional thoughts don't just go away when I tell them to. They stay there nagging at me inside my head. Even if I don't go on NationStates they'll still there in my head. I've been worrying about this at school and in my backyard and everywhere, it won't go away.

Also I noticed in news from last time there was a chart of "deaths" that has stayed there FOREVER. Not exactly temporary.

And even though I personally have come up with a solution that I'm trying to convince myself negates all this, I still feel betrayed and lied to. I read the FAQ expecting it told the truth. Apparently, it didn't.

I don't think so. Just another indication of how uninformed everyone is :/

There's also the matter of an opt-out already being in place: don't log-in during those particular 36 hours (I can't imagine this being too difficult) or just ignore it (there are no consequences to ignoring it, and the whole thing is over in 36 hours). It really is not an issue.

1. The mods pretty much told him exactly what we told him. It's not needed for something that comes and goes and has no permanent effect.
2. If you check the news tab, it has an ongoing counter on how long there is until the event starts and ends. Maybe if people would actually check the news once in awhile, you'd learn something.

3. And of course there's you, who is extremely emotionally invested about your people. Don't get me wrong, I am invested in my people too, but I essentially don't cry whenever deaths are mentioned in issues or anything. I do not understand how you look at the population number and take it personally. The way I look at it, population gets pretty arbitrary after a year of being on the site unless you're an interstellar empire. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only solid way of determining how long a nation has been around.
I invest in the culture itself, not the population. If anything, I enjoy this, because I can imagine my population being badasses and killing off all the zombies in the most cheesy way possible. Because that's pretty awesome.
Basically, if you're too emotionally invested to drop it, make up a story or something that explains it (which it appears you are trying already).
4. As for the opt-out button itself, it wrecks the entire mechanic of the game. The ENTIRE POINT is to have fun, saving or screwing your friends and enemies over this period and invading regions and such (oh boy think of what the Black Riders will do with this). And opt-out button would completely destroy the game, because now you have immune nations and/or regions. The end goal is to have the region with the most alive people at the end (or at least, that's one of the leaderboards). It just doesn't make sense.
If I were the one tasked with coding it, however, I would make a button similar to dismiss issue, which removes all zombie-related graphs and such from your viewing, but would still count the zombie stats, just from out of view. This way, people can still cure or send zombie hordes at you, but you'll remain blissfully unaware.

5. My overall advice to you (now that the almighty mods have given their judgement) is to choose the cure option for your nation. Also, it'd be wise to be located in a region with locked borders and filled with people who also research a cure, this way you can send cure missiles at each other, and you can live happily ever after in a zombie-free region. This worked great for my region last year. Additionally, if you only use cure missiles and no military squads, then there won't even be and dead citizens either, which I'm sure is your main goal.
Honestly, of you can get around the whole concept of an Apocalypse in your nation, this could actually be really fun. Good luck.

How about this. Imagine that your population, while devastaed by this horrible event, returned to normal, and all those that have died or that have been infected had been visited by a benevolent god, who took pity on them, and decided that once every year, he would ressurect all those who had died from the zombies, and all those that have been infected.

Does that work?
Maybe.

Apologies for my little meltdown here if you saw it ^^; Leutria decided to intervene and help my people so you can thank them for being the only reason I didn't just leave NationStates forever ^^;

And in response to The German Democratic Reich, no, I have Aspergers but that has nothing to do with this. And also I'm 15, so whether that counts as very young is up to you. I just love Quilavas as much, or probably more than, you would love a girlfriend or a family member.

You can ask for a lock if you want it locked, and if you're posting in Moderation anyway, you might also report the "Are you handicapped?" post. I was too lazy to do it myself, but people shouldn't be saying that sort of thing about you.

I think it was reasonable considering the circumstances. I mean I could get in trouble just for starting this thread, since there was a "no complaining about the zombies" rule. So I don't really have a right to go around complaining when people broke the rules on my already against-the-rules thread XD

Thanks for the help though. I'll ask for a lock now and hopefully never speak of this thread again.

There's a "no complaining about the zombies" rule?

Anyway, I don't think the mods would do anything to you for starting the thread. The punishment for that sort of thing is usually just the thread gets locked.
