Starfall

The year is 2622. For centuries, mankind has journeyed through space in search of a new home, but found only barely habitable planets that have offered little comfort to the human settlers. Still, technological advancements have made colonization of these sub-prime worlds profitable enough to fuel a massive colonization boom in the last three centuries. Tens of billions now populate dozens of systems around the galaxy. Between them freighters and space shuttles make trips back and fourth on a yearly basis. One of these vessels, the Securos VII of the Securon Liners Inc. have recently departed from Lalande Prime, a populous, industrial planet in the exotic and mysterious Ellis system. Ellis's jungles, swamps and deserts are famous for their dens of illegal entertainment, especially popular among the nouveau riche of the universe, but Ellis is also a stronghold of legitimate business. Its also a hub of xenobiology research, mining and hi-tech industry.

You are one of the passengers aboard the Securos VII. Unfortunately for you, the Securos' trip has been interrupted by the apparent failure of the navigational systems, meaning the Securos' has ended up in an uncharted system of indeterminate proximity to known space. Even worse, an unknown force impacted the Securos' shortly after the liner entered the system, resulting in the small passenger ship crash-landing on the surface of a garden world in close orbit to the uncharted system's star. Do you have what it takes to survive this harsh new world? Will you discover what mysteries this Planet has to offer, and perhaps make it home? Only time will tell.

Welcome, passengers, to the verdant world of Planet. A dangerous mistress, you will need all your cunning to survive your forced existence upon her surface. Having managed to rush to the life-pods mere minutes before the Securos crash-landed on Planet, you will have to deal with alien life, the vagaries of fate, and even your own desperate comrades in order to make your way on Planet. Why you are on the Securos is your own story, but the wider story of how the routine trip of the interstellar liner ended up here on Planet is a mystery for all to unravel.

Fill out the passenger manifest below if you wish to have been aboard the doomed ship.

What does all that mean? Well, you see, this isn't merely a freeform RP. This RP is more of an RPG, with myself taking the role of Planet and her environs, the GM of this escapade if you will. You'll have to consult the tabs below in order to understand the universe in to which your character has been placed, and how you might survive this fickle world.

Thankfully for the diurnal humans aboard the Securos, Planet seems to rotate at roughly the same rate as their homeworld, Earth. As such, there are twenty-four hours in a day. Action Points, as delineated below, are representative of the time and effort a person can put forth in an hour. Unless otherwise noted, an activity that requires one Action Point will take an hour to execute, two, two AP, and so on.

Though no such technical distinctions exist, for our purposes the surface of Planet is divided in to what we shall term Sectors, representing approximate grid squares of the ~3 km areas a man of average ability can walk across in an hour. Moving between these sectors requires an Action Point, and each individual Sector will doubtless have different resources and eccentricities that may or may not aid a passenger in their quest to unveil the mysteries of Planet, or indeed simply survive. Exploring a new Sector takes eight hours, on average.

Taking care of the needs of each passenger is crucial to survival. As such, mechanistic requirements are assigned to each character in order to preserve one's physical and mental abilities. Eat, drink, and sleep, and all will be well.
Each character begins with a score of 10 in Vitality, Health, and Sanity. Maintaining these scores is an important part of the daily needs of man:
Consuming no water in a day will reduce Vitality by three, and Health by one. Consuming a single liter of water will maintain one's statistics, while consuming two liters will restore one Sanity if the character is not at full Sanity.
Consuming no food in a day will reduce Vitality by two. Eating a single meal will reduce that loss to one Vitality, whereas eating two will allow a character to maintain their stats. Three meals will increase Vitality by one and Sanity by one.
Sleep is likewise necessary. Not sleeping will reduce Vitality and Sanity by two, whereas sleeping between one and three hours a day will reduce that loss to two Vitality and one Sanity. Those who sleep four to six hours will only lose one Sanity, with seven being the minimum amount of hours to suffer no negative effects. Sanity is restored by one for every two additional hours slept past seven.

There are many materials that make up the surface of Planet, and that you will require in order to survive. An incomplete list is appended below.
Steel Scrap: A remnant of the crashed Securos, this processed metal isn't much use in a functional manner, but can be utilized for some humble constructions in the right hands.
Biomatter: Wood, particular firm xenobiological components, and whatnot. A construction material with few other redeeming values.
Biomass: Slightly different, a more volatile form of the organic compounds that litter Planet. The unbound molecules contained within this morass of green give it a wide variety of uses to those who have Biological training.
Forged Steel: Slender alloy ingots perfect for more clever contraptions and constructions.
Gasoline: A primitive source of energy, this crude oil is obtainable from the right sources and very useful in rudimentary equipment.
Worked Stone: A sturdy construction asset, stone may serve you well just as it did your distant ancestors.

These are, shall we say, more sophisticated versions of the resources above. Generally these are more useful, like the difference between a stick and a spear.
Universal Welder: A nanofabrication tool of great potential, this device allows the fabrication of most buildings. It requires one Energy to use per hour, and can cause two damage in melee. It requires two Forged Steel and two ?? to manufacture at a Workshop.
Mining Drill: A small handheld version of far more power disassembling machines, the Mining Drill is critical to extracting resources from stone or soil. It requires one Energy to use every hour, and can cause three damage in melee range. Manufacturing a Drill requires 3 Forged Steel, 1 ??, and 1 ?? in order to manufacture at a Workshop.
Elemental Centrifuge: Man-portable, this device separates valuable materials out of masses of otherwise useless matter. The Centrifuge is a greedy beast, needing two Energy every hour. It requires 4 Forged Steel, 2 ??, 2 ??, and 5 Energy to manufacture at an Industrial Lathe with knowledge of Chemical Engineering.
Camelpak: Just your average water storing device. Fits comfortably on the back, and can hold up to four liters of fluid. Cannot be created currently.
Battery Pack: A small QE battery, this device can store five units of Energy with ease. A Battery Pack taken as Luggage begins fully charged. Battery Packs may be manufactured at a Workshop with one Biomatter, one Steel Scrap, and 1 ?? with the knowledge of Chemical Engineering.
Synthskin: This minor piece of medical equipment can help a person recover from field trauma, though it performs better in the hands of one who knows how to apply it properly. Heals one Health in a single Combat Round, or two if used by a person with the Doctoring skill. Cannot be manufactured, though it can be recharged with two Biomatter and two Energy. One charge.

Workshop: Costs 2 Steel Scrap and 2 Worked Stone to erect. The Workshop is the foundation of the most basic parts of survival, and allows the manufacture of some basic equipment.
Leanto: Costs 2 Steel Scrap or 2 Biomatter to erect. The Leanto is a humble abode for any man, fitting two at a pinch, but at least it keeps out the rain and might discourage some more dangerous wildlife.
Shack: Costs 1 Forged Steel, and 5 Biomatter or Worked Stone to erect. The Shack is a more sturdy dwelling, having room for up to four passengers to sleep away from the elements. There is room for up to five items to be safely stored within the Shack's confines.
Earthen Field: Costs 5 AP to erect. This field is the most basic way one could go about living as an Agrarian. Crops planted here will grow slowly over time if watered regularly, and tending to the field may increase the harvest.
Storage Pit: Costs 3 AP, 2 Worked Stone to erect. This stash is secret to all but those who erected it, or anyone who was in the Sector when it was under construction. Up to twenty items can be stored here safe from wild animals or the weather.
Research Bench: Costs 2 Forged Steel, 2 Biomatter, 2 ?? to erect. This Bench's carefully placed slots for blueprints, as well as its comfortable seat to recline in, speed the RP generation of any passenger by one point per day.
Flywheel Generator: Costs 2 Steel Scrap to erect. Passengers may manually labor at the Flywheel to convert their sweat to small amounts of electrical power. For every six hours spent here by a Passenger, one Energy is generated.
Windmill: Costs 2 Forged Steel, 4 Biomatter, 1 Battery Pack to erect. This small wooden rig can charge a Battery Pack at its base slowly over time, generating one Energy every four hours, though events may speed up or slow down this rate. The Battery Pack can be removed or added to the base of the Windmill, but no Energy is collected unless a Battery is placed in the Windmill.
Furnace: Costs 5 Worked Stone to erect. Can burn 3 Biomatter or 1 Biomass to convert 2 Steel Scrap in to 1 Forged Steel.

Passengers evacuating the Securos managed to grab a few small items to take with them; you may choose two from the list below to have in your manifest.
Food Rations: Two meals worth of hardtack and imperishables. Fulfilling, but heavy fare.
Camelpak: Only one liter of water in this thing, a lot of it boiled away in the crash. Still, better than being thirsty.
Deployable Tent: What it says on the tin- a tent, with room for up to two to sleep comfortably. Really better suited for a backyard than the wilds of Planet, it'll help against the elements, but probably won't stand up to any wild denizens of the harsh worlds.
Hatchet: Made of a sturdy iridium alloy you probably won't be able to duplicate soon, this Hatchet allows you to gather one bonus Biomatter/time period from a given Biomatter source. Also can inflict four damage in melee, so there is that.
Batteries: A fully charged Battery Pack. This might be handy, given you really don't know how to survive without power.
Armored Stillsuit: Another artifact of the Securos you won't be able to replicate, the Stillsuit allows you to reduce any incoming damage by one point, and gives a small chance that you'll receive a bonus liter of water on a given day. Just don't ask where the water came from.
Flitcloak: A garment designed to shroud the user from easy view by blending in to the foliage or ground around them, the Flitcloak is often used by explorers on hostile worlds. Why you have this with you is a very good question, but it will certainly help with avoiding unwanted attention from both man and beast.
Universal Welder
Mining Drill
Elemental Centrifuge
Whipwheat Seeds: These organic samples were probably meant to be a delicacy on some new colony world, but they'll serve you well out here on Planet. Whipwheat takes only five days to grow, and requires merely a liter of water per day to thrive; nutritious, though not delicious, her granules might be the difference between life and death in some situations.
Haptic Assessor: Knowing what is what is very important on this alien world. This device can analyze most things you might find and at least tell you if they're out to kill you, as well as many other pertinent details. Requires one Energy per analysis.
Training Log: Knowledge is power. The training log grants you one free Skill Point every five days if given one Energy.

You may have up to two Skills upon starting. More skills may be learned via the acquisition of Skill Points, where the first new Skill requires five skill points, the second ten, and so on. Skill Points require a passenger to do nothing for twelve hours to gain one Skill Point, as they are studying whichever idea they are working to learn.
Chemical Engineering: A wise man knows what the world is made of. Chemical Engineers can create more complicated contraptions than others, and sometimes benefit from more efficient construction recipes.
Doctoring: Medical knowledge is never useless. This allows you to heal one Health on any person, or yourself, for 4 AP. It also improves the effectiveness of certain items, and is needed for the construction of others.
Botanics: Understanding the strange flora and fauna of the cosmos can provide benefits others don't even realize. Tending Crops is twice as efficient for those with the Botanics skill, and Botanics is necessary for many construction recipes. Additionally, you may both discover and harvest Biomass without any special equipment.
Mining: You understand the way the bones of many worlds have been knit together, and Planet is to some degree no different. Your expertise at placing deposits of valuable ores is unparalleled, and you can mine twice as fast as other passengers.
Fighting: Obviously those who die by the sword probably should have known how to use a sword. You might not have a sword, but you deal one extra damage in melee combat, and have two more Health than other Passengers.
Survivalist: Growing up in deprivation, you've learned how to get by on little, and how to make the most of every scrap of food and water. You may ignore one point of Sanity, Health, and Vitality loss per day.
Shooting: You don't have a gun, but if you did, you could bullseye a womprat with the best of them. You may engage in one extra round of Ranged Combat if you so wish during Combat, and are in possession of some recipes others just don't understand the utility of.
Explorer: A wiry fellow or fellowess since your younger days, getting to know wild and exotic places is your love. You only pay 0.5 AP per move between Sectors, and only 4 AP to explore a new Sector. You also may always automatically Flee from combat under most circumstances, since you're simply that fast.
Mysticism: Ever since man has first looked up at the starts, he has had hope in something greater than himself. This belief may carry you through many dark times upon this alien world. You gain two Sanity a day regardless of any circumstances. May play in to other things.

Passengers of the Securos:
Konayama Miyuki - Relikai
Madelyn Hilt - Applepieistan
Krupin Koziol - Shyluz
Nakeyomi Takeda - The Flame Dawn
IERT - Geths
Adam Burlton - Vredlandia

Yep, no guns to started. Ranged is an investment skill.

You can certainly invent a bow, but I doubt there would be one on a far future ship.

A bow shouldn't be too hard to make, seeing as cavemen could do it. Anyway, I'll make an app soon-ish.

Shipping Manifest
Passenger Name: Madelyn Hilt
Passenger Appearance:
Image

Passenger Sex: Female
Passenger Biological Age: 31
Passenger Luggage: Armored stillsuit and hatchet
Passenger Skills: ranged and fighting
Passenger Biography: Madelyn was always pretty tough. Starting when she was around a teenager, she loved to exercise, and would do so rather often. Pretty soon, she had bulked up and was educated to be a security professional. Being a security guard, her main job was to fight off pirates should they board, which almost never happened. Still, Madelyn wore an armored stillsuit and much knowledge of firearms and how to use them, just in case. The few times she did need to use force, she usually only needed one punch to fix everything.

The job wasn't too hard or stressful, until she was assigned to help defend the Securos VII. At the time, it seemed like a normal job, make sure no one acts stupid, eat donuts, watch out for suspicious activity, and that's it. When the ship started crashing, she was leaning back in a chair, which fell over when the ship made a sharp turn toward a planet. Recuperating quickly, she grabbed a fire axe and looked to see if everyone was okay. Most people were relatively fine, until the ship crashed.

Passenger Name: Konayama Miyuki
Passenger Appearance: Konayama Miyuki
Passenger Sex: Female
Passenger Biological Age: 22
Passenger Luggage: Camelpak, Whipwheat Seeds
Passenger Skills: Doctoring, Botanics.
Passenger Biography:

Back on Lalande Prime, there was that bewitching doctor who many find hard to approach except when they need her medical expertise. Konayama Miyuki, known as the 'Hot Asian Doctor' back on the planet, was born into a rich family who sponsored her clinic and bodyguards. Miyuki was not always one for adventure, but she loves seeing the wildlife and learning new things about unexplored worlds. She does no desire to be a colonist - The thought of settling with a man who's only interested in expanding the population with her was not on her list, but a person who follows an expedition, cataloging new worlds and life into the database of Mankind. She would not take the initiative, but she would follow and support those who would, therefore her establishment of a free clinic on Lalande Prime.

Some could call her a prodigy, or a genius, being skilled in many areas of academics, but Miyuki chose to dedicate her time into her passion of botany, and a useful profession of medicine and doctoring. After all, with the combination of both, Miyuki could identify what she needs to create drugs or medicine to treat different symptoms. Not to say that she's clueless when it comes to other skills, but Miyuki would not be the first few people one would count on to shoot something beyond fifty meters, or hope her slight frame could support construction or win out against wild beasts in a fist fight. However, anyone with negative symptoms, be it headaches, nausea, or even depression, would choose few other than Miyuki herself to treat them.

When she hit twenty-two years of age, Konayama Miyuki decided to hand her clinic over to a promising assistant before stepping on board the Securos VII before she could get mobbed by those reluctant to see her go. Things took a turn for the worst when the ship crashed, and everything Miyuki had was lost except for a container for water, and some seeds which she kept on her at all times. Waking up, dazed and confused, Konayama Miyuki gazed upon the new world, knowing that every passing second is crucial...

This is quite streamlined compared to most. If you can keep up with, say, Skyrim's crafting system, you should be just dandy.

| Passenger Sex: Male
| Passenger Biological Age: 26
| Passenger Luggage: Flitsuit, Hatchet
| Passenger Skills: Explorer, Shooting
| Passenger Biography: Krupin was a born explorer. The planet he hailed from-Asgard Titanicus-was a frigid waste where few could survive on the frozen surface. Fkr very long at least. Commonly, underground cities and biodomes would rupture, exposing the colonists to the cold abyss. Krupin was one of the few survivors of one of these incidents.

After the rupture, he kept himself warm with several parkas, wnd heated clothing. He scavenged dehydrated food packs from the spaceport. He found and tamed a Prime Lupine, a giant wolf-like creature with three ryes and antlers. Eventually, he made his way over fourteen hundred kilometers to the nearest dome through the frost.

Amazingly, he only lost one arm.

He won instant fame as the boy who crossed the frost on Asgard, and it soon spread through the system. He was quickly hired up by an exploration firm, and for several years he did several charts of several planets. From desert worlds to icy abysses to flaming hells, no mere planet will stop Krupin Koziol, The Boy Who Survived the Frost.

Quite the unofficial fellow. Former P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs. Always happy to help.

How to be legitimately recognised in NS? Be a proper Roleplayer.
In a community where knowledge should be used to uplift the teachable and be used as an interest instead of a necessity, the arrogant abuse of knowledge is interesting to watch.
