"Well, ladies and gentlemen, he's the man that helped revolutionize the scientific world. His work helped change medicine, cybernetics, networking, and nearly everything else! Everyone, please give a hand for Dr. Simon Hatfield!"
"Oh, please, Aaron. I didn't do it all on my own."
"Always so humble, doctor. Can you tell some of our listeners about yourself?"
"Well, when the containment perimeter was established, I had been working in one of the refugee camps in Mesquite. Trying to help deal with people affected by the anomalies. We had a lot of trouble in the beginning, because we really had no idea what we were dealing with."
"And that was when you started the Anomaly Research Program?"
"In a way, yes. The NSA was just starting to lay the groundwork for the Department of Anomalous Affairs, but they didn't have anything to deal with the creatures and phenomena that could get past the perimeter. I got a team together, and we were able to secure a grant from the Bureau to start researching Zone phenomena."
"What was that like?"
"It's hard to describe in words. We started out with a team of about forty people. Engineers, physicists, astronomers, the like. A vertical slice of the scientific community. We started working within the immediate perimeter, and we discovered incredible things. The Zone, we found, wasn't the slow breakdown of reality. It was a tear across multiple dimensions. Just by it's mere existence, it proved and disproved dozens of theories we'd held. You should have seen Tyson's face when we discovered our first spatial anomaly."
"Right. When did your team start reverse-engineering them? The anomalies?"
"That took some time. The first ones that we were able to re-work were the robotic ones. Some of the technology from other realities was compatible with our own, and some of it was more advanced than anything we thought we could ever do. We developed the first cybernetic enhancements, the first quantum computer, the first artificial intelligence. As we worked further into the Zone, we were able to get our hands on even stranger anomalies."
"There were allegations in the Warmburn-Gerhold Report that your group also helped weaponize the first anomalies, Doctor."
"Yes, yes. I've read it too. That report almost killed the program. Yes, we did have to justify our funding. Our benefactors, including the NSA, weren't just interested in the civilian applications of the Zone. They wanted weapons. Didn't matter that we had figured out a way to virtually exterminate Cancer, or that we could use wormholes to travel to other worlds. They wanted to see if the Zone could give them an edge."
"So the allegations are true?"
"Not all of them. We didn't do any kind of human testing, nor did we work on any kind of doomsday weapons. We helped develop the early Mark I Exoskeletons, and that seemed to keep the government sated. Yes, our work led to the manufacture of the Langmuir I, the first line of weaponized plasma devices. Yes, my team is indirectly responsible for the Baghdad Incident. I have to live with that. That was part of the reason I left the program. I didn't want to be a part of that kind of business."
"What about the other allegations? The ones from the data leak? Your name came up in quite a few of the files."
"Uh, yes, well, there's no real way to tell if those files were legitimate or not. For all anyone knows, DARKNET made it all up. I mean, they are cyber-terrorists, after all."
"Of course. Thank you for your time, Doctor. That was Doctor Simon Hatfield with the Institute of Anomalous Studies. Up next, new reports coming in from NASA's Lunar Research Base, while authorities are hitting dead ends in the search for the missing Royal Caribbean cruise liner. Eyewitnesses stated that...EXCERPT FROM KAZZ RADIO INTERVIEW, CIRCA 2016

Wet footsteps rushed over to them and Kim threw her arms around Kimberly. KT had been thrown into the back of the truck. “Are you okay? I’m so sorry. It happened so fast, and KT, and you, and… and…”
“I’m fine,” Kimberly said despite the fact that she was practically undressed and shivering. She looked over to Callum and, rather unsurely, thanked him.
The United Equstrian Front wrote:"Good job saving her sir." She pulled her backpack off and coat while shouldering the backpack,
"Take the coat I don't need it." She then glanced at Kim,
"Don't punish yourself you had KT to worry about and you couldn't help with her hanging onto you."

A quick glance saw it parked. Parked and stripped for parts. She about blew a gasket when she saw the big, desert tan M939A2 troop truck off to the other side. Well...this was a bit too convenient, but not like they had much choice. She eyed Jen as she got in Silvas' face. Well, not like he didn't bring it upon himself. She watched her glance to her before finishing and getting in the truck. She looked at him too.
"You heard her. Drop that thing, preferably somewhere no one else will find it, or you can walk."
And that was the end of it, she hoped. She threw what stuff she had in the truck bed and pointed to Jen, looking very rightfully sour.
"You. Up front. Bring your twin too."
If Hawkins was driving this thing anywhere, she needed a navigator or two. She turned to the rest of the group, taking a moment to lament the rain on her with still only her bra. She would have to get her clothes back from the triplets sooner rather than later.
"Alright! Mount up or stay here, but make your decision fast!" She ordered.
