"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be never so vile. This day shall gentle his condition. And gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

William Shakespeare - 'King Henry V'

Theme
March

This will be an RP following the men of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, through the struggle to liberate Europe from the Third Reich. Whether or not you play as someone from the Book/Television Series is entirely up to you. We will begin in 1944, just prior to the Invasion of "Fortress Europe".

This RP is heavily inspired by a previous Band of Brothers RP that was run by the now former nation of Perfidus.

1. Be considerate and kind towards your fellow players.

2. Please, post regularly. Inactivity is what kills RPs.

3. No Meta-gaming or God-Modding.

4. Be historically accurate.

5. Please, use proper grammar and spelling. Typos and other errors are ok from time to time, but consistent poor spelling/ grammar is not acceptable.

A note on Medals:
Yes, you can be awarded medals for courageous actions within the RP. However, do not go out of you way IC to try and win medals, you will probably be killed. Also, do NOT ask the OPs for Medals.

Name: John A. Thompson
Age: 26
Rank: SFC
Nickname(s): Johnny (more can be added IC)
Physical Description/Picture: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/174/444358374_f04a9f8a14.jpg
Place of Origin: Silver Spring, Maryland
Religion: Roman Catholic
Last held position of Employment: Outside of the Army a Paperboy at the age of 18 Career Army man since 1937
Traits (Please, be balanced): Effective Speaker, Ethical Thinker (which can have its downsides), Comprehension of Platoon Tactics, Prideful (which can have its downsides), Hates Alcohol, Empathetic towards his men, Unforgiving (though he can take a joke and most insults)
Biography (Minimum of 1 paragraph, including training):

Born to Lisa and Elliot Thompson on March 15th, 1918, John was raised surrounded by military traditions. His grandfather James Thompson, was a Naval Captain for the Union Army during the civil war, his father was a veteran of the Spanish American and Civil Wars almost becoming a captain in his fathers footsteps towards the end of 1917 before being shot in arm and having to be honorably discharged due to the severity of his injury which caused permanent damage to his arm. This paired with his father being older lost him the position to another well deserving man. This led to his father becoming an alcoholic, and to a suicide attempt when John was one years old. John never learned of this until later in life when he was already in the Army, though his father's alcoholism led to him hating alcohol, though not enough to become an avid prohibitionist. He grew up in a majority catholic neighborhood during the depression and became a paper boy at the age of 10, holding the job for the next seven years. His schooling went fairly well loving history and doing very well in early math and chemistry class, and taking French, though lacking good grades in more advanced math courses. He was a member of the local JROTC program becoming a cadet command sergeant major, and even being offered a scholarship to the Annapolis Naval Academy. However, to his father and grand father's annoyance, he joined the Army to become a paratrooper infatuated with the idea of jumping from planes behind enemy lines.

During training John experienced the greatest tests of endurance of his life. However, he proved to be in the top tier of the men training there in terms of willingness to commit and obey orders. He got his jump wings on September 19th, 1937 and began his military service aware of the potential dark future ahead. He was assigned to be the second member of the second squad of Platoon A, Dog Company. As a squad member he was very obedient, and while he felt compelled to speak up when he disagreed with certain things, he managed to always keep his mouth shut and contain himself. He reminded himself that he chose to be an enlisted man, and not to regret it because it was the more honorable way to join the military. He joined the Army Drill and Ceremony team in 1938 though he only performed publicly once on April 22nd that year. However, he refocused himself desiring a promotion and pushed himself further taking initiative in situations as needed. And when his squad leader got promoted and moved to another company in late 1938, he was selected to become the squad leader of 2nd Squad and a Staff Sargeant. During the next two years he received highly positive marks for leading the squad and making them the most efficient squad in the platoon due to him being heavily involved in maintaining the well being of his squad ensuring they exercised more often and kept them off alcohol as much as possible. His hallmark achievement as squad leader was passing a surprise inspection without incident besides a minor lag in a logistical order, one of the soldiers had scratched his rifle along the butt, which John reported immediately at the beginning of the inspection and informed him that the request for the S-2 to address through his platoon sergeant.

However, this incident dragged on as the platoon sergeant was slow to respond to his request. This slow response along with a few other issues led to him being re-assigned to another regiment on the orders of a higher ranking officer who was sick of the lag in the chain of command. A promotion board was held at 22:00 on October 10th, 1941 and he decided to sign on the roster of those going for the position. He remained confident he could get the position, and eliminated most of his nervousness leading up to the board. When he walked into the room he noticed that one of the men on the board was the inspector from earlier. He held back his relief, and reported in. The board went smoothly with him explaining why he felt best suited for the position. Little more than two weeks later on October 26th he received his promotion to Sergeant First Class and was made Platoon Sergeant and transferred to Easy Company, Platoon B. For a short time his enlistment had ended and he signed up for re-enlistment on a second four year contract to end in 1945. During his short time back at home he saw a girl he once knew from school named Sarah O'Harris and after two months together they got married on December 12th, 1941. Soon he was back off to the men resuming his position as Platoon Sergeant. In mid-August 1942, John was sent to Toccoa to train with all the new recruits swelling within the 101st. Once the unit was trained and prepared for the war ahead, they were shipped out to England, arriving on the 15th of September in 1943. Since then he has been training with Easy Company in preparation for the invasion of Europe.

In a previous 2012 incarnation of this RP, we almost made it to the Netherlands but then we hit the winter holiday season and it died. So I know how great these RPs can be.

Name: Thomas Meehan III
Age: 22
D.O.B: July 8, 1921
Rank: First Lieutenant
Nickname: The Baker
Physical Description/Picture:
Place of Origin: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Religion: Catholic
Last held position of Employment: Industrial Art student
Traits: Generous, caring of the men beneath him, pragmatic in times of crisis, likes nature, strong dislike for slackers and laziness, leads by example
Biography: Born in Philadelphia, Thomas was raised a Catholic. He attended Germantown High School. Here, he discovered a natural ability in drawing and interest in painting. Graduating with high marks in 1939, Thomas went on to pursue his artistic skill, enrolling in the Philadelphia Museum of Industrial Art. The young man's desire was to become a commercial artist, however, the Second World War had other ideas for his future.
Enlisting in March 16 1941, Thomas found himself in officer training, the army in desperate need for intellectuals to command the massive surge of uneducated grunts. Following basic training, where he proved himself worthy of rank, Thomas transferred over to the recently inducted 506th Parachute Regiment. As part of Company B (Baker) he reached the rank of First Lieutenant, taking part in the 137 mile march from Toccoa to Airborne School. Through his determination and easy smile, Thomas ensured that every man in the company reached their destination.
Following their redeployment to Britain, Thomas was set up as the likely successor to the captaincy of Baker Company, his drive and good relationship with his men hampered only by his support of heavy pre-deployment training. However, this was not to be the case. Captain Herbert Sobel, declared a fine instructor and military trainer was transferred to regimental headquarters, leaving a vacancy. Thomas was transferred to fill in this empty position, mere days before the regiment's first baptism of fire.

Well, I guess it is good that we started just after the Holidays! I know how bad the Holidays can be for an RP, this Christmas it killed both RPs I was running. It's too bad it never got to the Netherlands, we all know how much Easy Company liked it there. :)
