In the year 2186 humanity attempted to take to the stars. This unfortunately proved to be a costly mistake. For once humanity tried to claim more of their system under the flag of Earth they came. Who they were, what they wanted, why now, all the answers to those questions are unknown. No contact was ever achieved nor was any POWs taken. They came, they attacked, and they destroyed all of humanity's advancements even as humanity fought desperately back. They were different from humans, goals, personalities, behavior, all of it was different simply not understandable, truly alien. But the story of the time before war, the circumstances leading up to it, and the events of the war itself is a story for another time and one that will be told at a later date. They are not relevant to this tale one would suppose and thus belong to history.
By 2206 it was clear the war was lost. Despite all their efforts victory could simply not be achieved for they seemed limitless. In desperation most nations of Earth gave up fighting and instead threw all their resources into one last ditch effort, an effort to seek hope in the stars. While the militaries of Earth threw their forces into desperate battles with no hope of victory they were used to buy time to build this hope: the Comperior. A massive ship designed with 75,000 people on it and it was made to flee Earth and settle elsewhere. There was little choice for most believe there was no hope of victory. So when it was completed 75,000 people, some just normal citizens others experienced soldiers, adults of every profession and simple children, entered the ship and it left Earth with what was left of the various navies of Earth protecting it to buy time. The ship wasn't designed for travel at light speed or any fictional thing, fictional to humans, like that instead it had to rely on top of the line engines and just fly in a random direction and hope for the best. Humanity's leadership was that desperate but the ship was designed to last indefinitely so they figured they had infinite time and chances.
The ship ran on a very simple system. Everything was reduced to very low to no power and to conserve resources everyone was put in experimental cryogenic sleep to save on resources. But the ship wasn't flying blind all the time. Once every year the Keeper Protocol was initiated. The Protocol was for simple maintenance and course correction. Once a year one cyropod, the one belonging to the Captain, activated its awakening procedure to rouse him from his sleep. As soon as he awoke he was expected to immediately go to work and run a full inspection of the ship and all the data it had gathered. It was expected that all data was to be collected automatically for the Captain to review yet running inspections over every area of the ship was encouraged and he did so occasionally. The Captain gave orders for needed repairs to be put underway, for course correction, and generally making sure nothing went wrong. He had 24 hours to accomplish all of this though he could extend it by another 24 hours with his emergency codes. If the Captain somehow died during this cycle someone else would awaken and carry on his duty.
Yet after 723 years of this cycle something went wrong. Horribly wrong. Shortly before the Captain was to be awakened explosions racked the Comperior. They, the enemy, had found the Comperior and attacked it. This has caused the Keeper Protocol to go haywire. What this meant was instead of awakening just the Captain as expected it began to slowly awaken everyone else on board. After 100 people were awakened the Captain figured out what was going on and tried to use his override codes to correct this. He only partially succeeded, he stopped the mass awakening but the system was still compromised. Every month a few more people would awaken and nothing to correct it would work. Even worse was the fact that every pod that was awakened could not be reactivated so people could not return to their sleep if they wanted to. Which meant they were stuck in their current situation and they would need to find a planet soon otherwise they will most likely all die unless they can adapt since the Comperior wasn't designed for long term habitation.
You are one of these people who just woke up. So suit up and get to your stations. Defend the Comperior. For the good of Humanity.

Welcome to the Comperior, a simple experiment I wanted to try with an RP. The goal is quite simple, survive for humanity's future and live on board a ship not exactly suited for habitation. Suggestions and questions are welcome. Enjoy.
