This is the thread where everyone in the New Nation RP can get the crazies out. There are no rules here, and none of this is canon.

President Andrews had been smoking a cigarette before the General had stepped in the door. He put the cigarette out in the ashtray that adorned his desk, and looked towards the General. "Ah, you see this, General? I'll bet that the President back in the States can't smoke in his office. Let's get down to details, though. What can I do for you, on this particularly fine day?" Andrews asked, cheerfully. The sun shone brightly through the drapes that the First Lady had chosen to fit the room. Andrews rested his head on his fist, as he waited for a response coming from General Dunn.

The General was looking at the President smoking a cigarette then putting it into an ashtray. He had been so enamored in this that Dunn almost forgot that the President responded. "Uh, yes, sir, I came here because the size of our territory isn't exactly the biggest. This is an obvious question, yes, but in order to increase our size, we could try to intervene in the Hala'ib Triangle dispute and we could maybe get a slice of the territory in the process? Another question I have is the replacement of our old military equipment. Our Charioteer tanks and T-34-85s are cheap but they can't take on Egyptian M1 Abrams."

"Hm..." Andrews murmured, listening intently. "Now that's a problem, right there... I agree that we need to increase our size, but Hala'ib... We don't actually share a direct border with it, that's the real problem. At best, we're kitty-corner to the Triangle, so we'd inevitably need to claim some land from Egypt or Sudan. My problem with this, here, is that you're the one asking me this, asking me to allow you to intervene with the Hala'ib Triangle, when you're the general. That implies that you want to use military action to do that, and I don't want to get on Egypt's bad side, they have one of the largest, if not the largest military in Africa. I would feel better about claiming some Sudanese land, since Egypt administers the Hala'ib Triangle, and Sudan is still recovering from the civil war they had, a while back. Besides that, their military isn't that great." he told the General, stroking his chin. "About your second question, yes, we definitely need to replace our equipment. I would tell you to get in contact with General Dynamics Land Systems, try and get some Strykers or LAV-25s, or maybe even some M1 Abrams tanks with what's left of the military budget, but there's the problem. What's left of the military budget is only around, what, 400,000 dollars at the most? A single Stryker is 4.9 million dollars. Something older, that would actually destroy tanks would be, I don't know, and Italian Centauro?" he asked, a grim look on his face.
"I'm not going to look up how much one of those things cost, but I'll put it simply. We can't afford it. Look, Ricky, I'm an optimist, but even I can't see that going well, in any way. And that goes for trying to fight Egypt for the Hala'ib Triangle, too. I love this nation, and I love this nation's military, but we've got to work our way up to the big things. We've got some corporations who are giving us money on account of using our land, but we need more, and when the government's pockets are full, we can build a damned Death Star if we wanted to! But unless you find some cheap contractors, get some more money, or find a tank graveyard out in the desert, it's not going to work out. I'm giving the armed forces all I can allow, but it's just not gonna cut it until we make this work out. I'm sorry, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Anything else you needed to ask me about?" Andrews asked, with a low face.

"Nothing more, sir. I suppose in order to increase our military's effectiveness as an interim action, we could purchase more Charioteers, they're extremely cheap, and upgrade their cannon armament to the 105mm L7 gun, perhaps? Sudan has nothing more than old T-55 tanks which the Charioteer was specifically designed to destroy that tank. Anyway, in order to protect members of government against assassinations, the military will be deploying its 1st Governmental Guard Company to protect you and others. I'll be going now, sir." General Dunn then left Andrews to himself and went back to his residence in Jabal Tawil.

Some members of the 1st GGC who were on their way to protect the President saw the person and a store owner clash. The soldiers ran up to the person and scolded him. "You'd better stop that kind of behavior unless you want to go to jail, criminal!"

Nighttime
Jamestown at night was no different from what it was at daytime. The one exception to this rule was at the northern end of Jamestown where many of the poor lived, and as such, was a hotbed for crime and potentially rebellious activities. Police forces were already very minuscule and overstretched, so they asked a platoon of the military to help them. Daily patrols of soldiers walking through the streets seemed relieving to the local population who had to put up with local loan sharks and street gangs terrorize the population.
It wasn't all good, however. Some soldiers instead became the criminals they were trying to protect the people against. They did this by enforcing 'protection payments' on the people they were supposed to serve. Tanks drove through the Jamestown Slums and people paid it no mind like it was a daily occurrence. The Lieutenant himself was an extremely corrupt commanding officer, accepting bribes from criminals to turn a blind eye toward illegal activities.
Military Department, Jamestown
When Dunn got back to the MD, he took the President's advice and immediately set in motion a major arms deal that the fledgling nation would be able to afford and would provide adequate protection against Sudanese T-55s. Colonel Austin, Dunn's advisor, was his liaison between the government and the military as well. He tried to ask questions from the General while they were walking in the narrow hallways of the building. "Sir, do you have permission from the government themselves to go through with this arms deal?" "Actually, I do, Colonel Austin. The President himself gave me a green light to pursue projects within the military budget, in this case the Charioteer tank destroyer. We need tanks, Colonel, and we need them urgently." "Very well, General. I'll inform the President of your activities."

"Trust me my desk looks about the same," Alex said with a slight chuckle, "the topic here is not what you can do for me but what I can do for you. Mr. President Empire Enterprises is the largest corporation in Columbia at the moment and one of, if not, the biggest contributors. We believe it is in the best interest of us both if we maintain these things. I am willing to invest $2.4 billion in this nation now, and $3.1 billion in 6 months, but we will need something in return. Right now Columbia is a tax haven and I'm pretty sure that there will be an influx of companies moving here in the near future. All I ask of you is that you raise the tax rate on all of our competitors." Alex knew that what he was suggesting would make the President have to choose between what was morally right and what was right for the country, but he would have to get used to it.
