Inside the Box/A Writer's Inception (Open sign ups)

Postby Harbertia » Mon May 04, 2015 2:02 pm

OP: Harbertia

IC Link

Theme (both songs, but mostly the 2nd, worth the wait)

Summary: Players will be playing writers in a graphic novel publishing company located in a fictional state where such publication must abide by stricked content codes. At the same time, players will be playing the characters being written about by the writers who are unaware that they are mentally linked to these characters, who are real people, in an alternate reality.

Inside the Box (A Writer's Inception)
Image

You are a writer at Hosworth Publishing, a Graphic Novel provider in the tiny nation of Moreelea. A micro-state established by Dutch settlers in the East Indies in the year 1786. Over the years a single party has come to govern the nation, and in recent times, the party has established a Content Code for various publications; among them, the Graphic Novel which in your language is known as Imhaal (a combination of the words for Image and Story). Imhaal is compared to Korea's Manhwa, and Japan's Manga and it is perhaps due to this that the Moreelean government has become so keen to regulate content so as to discourage the youth, who are fans of Imhaal, from partaking in deviant behavior.

Recently the code has been formalized, and yesterday, after learning that the main series published by Hosworth, Knight Vampires of Warlord Sho-han, has not made the cut, and despite protest from your fellow writers, and members of the imaging department; the executives at Hosworth are asking for a new series rather then seeking to revise the former; deeming it impossible to do so while still meeting the criteria of the code.

Today you walk in to discuss with other chosen writers from among the company's finest to develop a new series in hopes of saving the company.

Appearance: Without the Gun.

History at Hosworth Publishing: Ahri has worked on a collection of Science Fiction works. Heavily inspired by Last Exile, many of her works contain similar technologies.

Additional Background Details: Ahri has mostly done adventure tales rather than retellings of fictional wars, which is her passion. While it is against the law to publish works like that, Ahri has found a loophole where she will orally retell these fictional wars and use sketches she has made in her freetime to give her live audience a view into the world the wars take place in.

Ahri has always had a burning passion for ficticious tales of conflicts of an epic scale. She tries to portray the fact that all militaries value the quality of a single tank over the well being of an individual soldier.

Her depictions and pictures are gorely scenes which depict mass violence, some mild examples are of poor women being raped and then swftly killed by a bullet to the head and tanks running over the bodies of dead civilians after a gas attack.

Ahri believes that warfare is a bloody conflict which can never be made tame. It will always be chaotic and it must been depicted in a similar manner.

Name: James DuBael
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance: WIP

History at Hosworth Publishing:
  • Office Jockey at 16, a temporary position before turning in a transcript that became AI-ME
  • Wrote AI-ME, an series detailing the life of a sentient hologram as she attempts to become more human. The series ended on a rather sad note with Aime, the protagonist, standing alone in a junk yard as her Mobile Originator reads 'low battery'. The final panel has another figure, possibly her friend Cassy walking towards her unseen. James states that he couldn't think of where to take the story after that. Regardless AI-ME remains his most successful work.
  • Initiated an Imhaal series for pre-teens set on a space station, Stars Above before leaving the project to his peers. The series had a tie in to AI-ME in regards to the company responsible for her creation. While he was on the project the series was primarily Slice of Life, though it quickly changed into a deep mystery with a thrilling climax after he left the project.
  • Was a member of the Go! Go! Hohaiz! writing group before the series conclusion two years ago.
  • Odd Jobs around the company picking up what ever needed to be done. Usually going to what ever department was short handed.
  • Showed interesting in work on Hounds, a spin off of Knight Vampires of Warlord Sho-han before receiving news that both projects where to be abandoned.
  • Due to having favor with in the company, has managed to get a seat on this writing team.

Additional Background Details: Along with his brother did work for It's a Good Life, a comic strip in a local paper, before finding employment at Hosworth Publishing. James excels at daily conflicts; Slice of Life issues though when it comes to a plot, their in lies his weakness. Beginning, check, middle, check, planned ending for the story? He usually doesn't have an ending in mind. Thus he relies on his fellow writers to plan where a story should go, other wise the characters just take on a life of their own. He's prone to become stressed when characters hit a low point in their lives. It was due to this that he stopped writing AI-ME.

Recent History: If you feel you need to keep note of something that occurs over the course of the IC, you may put it here.

In order to better understand the background details, which line of the code does it reference when it's stated that the works she published wouldn't normally pass.

Is it that she can no longer depict the wars as violently as before, and thus must resort to panels of text, or is it more complex?

Thanks! I just poured a bit of anti-war extreamism I've been around.

You see, most people have to deal with gangs or high taxes. Since I'm a minor I don't own my own home but my high school just loves to state their political views. Such as how they are Pro-Life and I even have a pin which says Choose Life. To be honest I'm pro-choice, which should have some pull since I could have been an abortion.

Hey, can I join?

Name: Ohayo Miyuri(Ohayo being surname), nickname 'Yuri'
Gender: Female
Appearance:
She looks like Hoshi Sato from Star Trek: Enterprise. My PC isn't good with images, though.
History at Hosworth Publishing: Yuri is a new writer, but skilled. She has written several short novels for her own pleasure, but as of yet has not written anything for Hosworth.
Additional Background Details: She is very emotionally attached to her main character of choice after going through a similar situation as a child. However, her main character's backstory is only described or silhouetted, never shown outright, so as to avoid breaking the code.(Silhouetting or describing violent scenes is okay, right?)
Recent History: Yuri is beginning to develop a split personality with her main character, Charlotte(surprise, surprise!), and several times has accidentally injured herself, believing that she is someone and somewhere else.

This is a very interesting situation, and it's likely that Charlotte is experiencing the same issue of questioning if she is someone else.

(Silhouetting is fine as it's not gory, and so long as it doesn't portray sexual assault) Like, if it's done in the... you know how in films it'll sometimes pan away, and show a blood splatter? That's fine.

Or like when a show just has this;

That's fine.

You'll most likely be on the team to help with finding ways to get around the code should the need to do so arise.
