Episode 1: New Year and New Friends

Riley walked down the paved path from the dorms to the school, both hands in his pocket. The path was beautiful, very scenic, as it looped around the side of a pond that was on campus. He stopped for a moment as he turned to look at sun reflecting off the pond's surface. He really missed this school, this city, the other students. He was glad to be back and was determined to make his last year at Sakurasou Academy his best year. He couldn't wait to start hanging out with his friends, he had just spent the last hour sneaking his stuff into a friend's room he wasn't assigned to. Riley still had a few things he had to move, but school was just about to end meaning Riley's free period would be coming to a close.

Brrring, brrring

Well, Riley's free time was up. He turned away from the pond and hurried down the path to the school. Kids started pouring out of the main school buildings, mostly kids who were going to head off to sports clubs or had clubs later in the day. Riley shook his head as he finally made it to the door to the school, he did not envy those kids at all. Competitive sports were just too serious for Riley and obligations later at night just sounded dreadful to him. If he could go to a club in the morning he would, but then no one else would show up.

Inside the school it was just as busy with some students just leaving class with teachers who already decided to hold them for a few minutes after class on the first day of school. However, most of the students were just rushing to find their friends that they hadn't seen since last year. He was sure a few of the newer students were also trying to navigate themselves through this maze of a school to find their clubs, but they had another ten or so minutes so they would likely be fine. Immediately after entering the school Riley walked straight forward to a set of stairs on the opposite wall of the main entrance. He knew exactly where he was going, the same place he went to every single day last year of school.

Riley climbed the stairs and made a left as he walked down to the end of the hall where he had to make another left to walk down another hall. The u-shaped building with only one set of stairs was extremely inconvenient for just about everyone at this school, but apparently on inconvenient enough for anyone to do anything about it. Riley walked down the hall occasionally glancing to his right at the room numbers until he found it, room 216. He took out a pair of keys from his pocket and unlocked the door. The room was dark, only ever being used in the mornings, and chairs were spread all throughout the room. Riley had never had an actual class in this room, but from what he heard the teacher was pretty laid back and informal. Riley flipped the light switch on and propped the door open to make sure everyone who was coming knew it was okay to enter.

Riley walked over to the podium at the front of the classroom and took a deep breath as he looked around the empty class. He had a lot of good times in this room and he was sure he was going to again this year. Riley took off his jacket which he laid on the back of one of the chairs, rolled up his sleeves and hunched himself over the podium as he waited for people to arrive. He had another five minutes till he was suppose to start the meeting, ten minutes if he wanted to include the late comers. But Riley stood there with a silly grin as he waited for his favorite part of his school day to begin...

Kat sat in her last class of the day, eagerly watching the clock as it ticked ever closer to the end of the day. She had not been able to focus all day, even though that hardly mattered as the entire first day was merely introductions and going over rules she had heard so many times before. Finally she heard the lovely bell ring, signaling the end of the day. She shot up quicker than anyone else and ran down the hallway, pushing past everyone and rushing up the stairs. She then realized she had forgotten something in her room and sighed before running back to get it.

She got to her room and opened the door, going to her belongings looking for armband. She always liked to wear it to her club meetings. She was in such a hurry she hardly noticed the fact that there was someone else's things in her room, and she looked at the bags suspiciously but didn't go through them as she already had an idea who they belonged to. She quickly turned off all the lights and locked her door behind her and made her way back to her starting location at the top of the stairs. There were already groups of kids getting ready for their various practices, and she was surprised their school had sports begin this early.

She didn't pay much attention to them though, as her final destination stared her in the face. A small smile formed on her lips as she pushed the door open slightly before peaking inside and she looked inside to see a familiar face. Her smile grew as she ran into the room and hugged her friend.

"Riley!" She exclaimed, hugging him tighter. "It's so good to see you again!" She pulled away from him, grinning.

Björn sat in one of the music rooms, as he usually did, playing his guitar as people began to shuffle out. He had been in there playing guitar, and while normally, the others would take it as an invasion of their space, he wasn't some kid trying to show off without the skills to do so, but he was simply a kid with excellent skills, but no intent of trying to show off. He was very humble about everything, and generally kept to himself. But, now he had somewhere to be, so he unplugged his Gibson Explorer and made his way through the hall, his guitar upside down on his back, out of a case and still strapped. He barely knew anyone, but heard about some club, and his dad wanted him to join it and socialize. Björn did not really want to, given that he was perfectly at fine as he was, but he would not defy his father on this matter, because it wasn't really a big deal.

He finally reached the room after getting through the crowds of people, and wasn't sure if it was the right place or not, given the building's awkward design. He was pretty sure it was right, Room 216. He hesitated, hanging back at first, but after seeing someone else go in, he figured it must be the right room. He poked his head in, speaking in a rather strong Swedish accent, "This ams the rooms for the Communskities Clubs, rights?"

Brrring, brrring

"Alright, class, that's all for today. Class Rep, I want that document by the end of tomorrow. The rest of you, go on, I'm sure you have better places to be. "

The ever familiar sound of end-of-school chatter filled the room as the students, freed from the constraints of class, reacquainted themselves with old friends and made new ones. Akisuke sat quietly in his seat - second row from the back, three in from the window - and let the flow of humanity sweep past towards the front of the room and the door, occasionally half-smiling at someone he recognized. He wanted to wait for the rush to die down before heading out to room 216 - the clubroom for this "community club" he'd joined in lieu of the book club he'd been a member of for his first two years.

As the teacher stacked his folders and began to gather his things, Aki did the same, slinging his bag over one shoulder and making his way towards the door, receiving a friendly smile from the teacher as he left - Akisuke already had a reputation for working hard in this particular teacher's specialist subject - creative writing.

Dodging between students, he made his way through the familiar maze of classrooms and corridors to room 216. Noticing the door was propped open, and noticing a boy with a guitar case slung over his back in the doorway, he nervously approached.

Ryūsei

God he never stops talking. I thought to myself as I slouched in my chair while the teacher was giving a monolithic and monotoned lecture about how the Miji restoration was one of the most importent events in Japanese history. In all honesty I really didn't care I was actually still trying to get used to the fact the beach was still so far away. At least I had my skateboard though so I could at least do something with the beach so far away.

*Brrrring Brrring*

Thank God almighty this is over. I stood straight up and as soon as I did I took off my uniform jacket and loosened the tie thingy they had us wear as I made my way through the school. All the faces were new to me just like the city and the school were so I didn't recognize anyone much to my dismay I didn't even really see my roommate last night since I snuck out to see the city and didn't even get back till about 1:30 at night. I continued to walk through the eligently designed halls as we were all packed in like sardinestrying to manuver the narrow hallways and the same could be said of the only staircase in the school. While everyone was on there way to sports clubs and music clubs I got stuck with this Community Club my mom and dad signed me up for before I headed out here. Sure I wasn't opposed to it as it gave me something to do with my free time but still it was done without my thoughts on the matter and that was always the issue at home. But I couldn't think about that I just needed to get this day finished with and see how much I actually liked it.

I continued my way through the top floor walking both slowly and casually as I was never the one to really be in a hurry and as I was walking I undid my top button to give me some breathing room as I made my way to room 216 seeing both a smallish blond haired girl and a lanky black haired kid walk into the room. I made my way there eventually and opened the door rather slowly as I made my way it.

"Hope I didn't miss to much guys." I said as I put my stuff down and took my seat near the center of the room and layed back in it for a bit as I looked around at everyone carefully taking some quick mental notes on them all. From what I could tell they were all cool so everything should be copashyshy [all good] for now.

It had been a busy day. Inside a classroom at Sakurasou Academy, a beautiful blonde girl seemed to try to somehow make the clock move by gazing at it. This wasn't usual for her. Usually, classes went well, but today she just wanted it to end quickly. During the last 15 minutes, Eli divided her attention between the clock and her notes. Besides the usual notes that she wrote during class, she also wrote something else there. An idea for her novel. Everytime she had an idea to add to her plot, she would just stop whatever she was doing and write it down.

The bell finally announced the end of classes. Slowly, Eli packed her stuff while having a chat with a few of her classmates. Two or three minutes later, Eli left the classroom, heading to the second floor, room 216 more precisely. Since she had left the music club at the end of the previous year, she decided to join another club that seemed to catch her curiosity - the Community Club. While making her way across the busy corridor, she would catch the attention of some boys and girls, but Eli didn't seemed to realize this.

"Room 216...216..." she said to herself after reaching the second floor, looking for the number. For Eli, it was funny that, having spent 3 years at the music club, she never memorized the names of all the clubs Sakurasou has, including respective rooms. She suddenly stopped, remembering something. Grabbing her phone, she decided to text her friend, someone that also wanted to join the Community Club. She then returned the phone to her purse and resumed her way, finally finding the right door. Eli gently knocked the door and slowly opened it.

"Excuse me...Is this the Community Club?.." Eli asked with a gentle tone

Sitting slumped in her chair, idly twirling a mechanical pencil between her fingers. Tick. Tock. The pencil paused in her hand. The teacher, oblivious to the incessant ticking of the clock, droned on about something along the lines of great futures and the like. Tick. Tock. She resumed twirling the pencil again, brushing a stray strand of hair out of her eye she gazed across the rather drab classroom. Recalling something about how the students would decorate the room as their year went on. Prospects and such to the juniors or something. I couldn't really care less right now... I kinda just want to get this over and done with. Get the years over and done with and just... go. I know it goes against what I'm set up for here but...

*Brrrring Brrrring*

As one over a dozen students threw their chairs back, interrupting the teacher somewhat with an ear splinting screech. Someone bumped into her desk, sending her pencil off somewhere in the students hurry to get out of the classroom the "Sorry" was lost in the hubub. Gathering up her folder and implements with a heady sigh, crawling under a table to retrieve her pencil. Smack! In her haste to leave she'd smacked her head on the underside of the table. The teacher looked up briefly then back down again quickly. Sighing yet again, extracting herself from under the table with pencil in hand. Lilya finally managed to leave the classroom. A good few minutes after everyone else. Bidding a slightly laden farewell to the teacher she began to make her ways through the already emptying halls towards room 216.

You're going to be late. You're going to be late. This thought echoed through her head and as it seemed the deserted halls. Rubbing the back of her head and wincing she picked up her pace. Satchel bouncing against her leg. She rounded a corner, seeing the door of the desired room swing shut as she moved. Not late. Not late. Not late. Swinging in through the door, narrowly missing her head on the top of the door frame, she muttered hurriedly into the room "Sorry, sorry! I hope I'm not late! Am I?"

Eli looked at the boy who had just spoken to her. Somehow his accent made him sound funny, she knew that accent was from somewhere in northern europe as her father, being a businessman, usually had meetings with people around the world, contacting with several different languages, but Eli managed to stop herself from laughing, showing a smile instead.

"So it seems I'm in the right place. I was afraid I would end up at the wrong room. It wouldn' t be surprising." Eli said, sighing "Oh, how rude of me." she said, now facing everyone in the room.

"I'm Elena Aoyama, a 4th year. I was part of the music club for the last 3 years, but I decided to try something new, and the Community Club caught my attention. You can call me Eli. Nice to meet you all." she said, now showing an even bigger smile.

Prokop was still in the history classroom long after all of the other students had left. He was having a lengthy discussion with the teacher about foreign involvement in the Boshin War, adding all of his thoughts and critical insights that he was unable to mention in class. He also insisted upon correcting several of the teacher's factual errors and provided sources to back up his claims, much to the teacher's annoyance. Some teachers really loved Prokop while others could not stand having him in their classes.

This was quite typical behavior for Prokop, of course. He had no friends where he had come from besides his book collection and just about every dog and cat in the neighborhood, and he had been relentlessly bullied and name-called, so he felt like he had nothing to lose when he was given the opportunity to be an exchange student at the Sakurasou Academy. Besides, he had always wanted to try living in another country.

Upon finally leaving the classroom, Prokop began to make his way to the "community club" which he had joined in an attempt to meet new people. He had already been assigned a roommate named Seiko Ichijō, although they had just met and had not gotten to know each other yet. Prokop wandered through the halls and quickly became lost in the labyrinthine school building. He opened several doors he thought would lead to the community club, but much to his embarrassment he found that he had entered the wrong room every time. He was about to give up when he finally stumbled upon a room with the door wide open where several people had already gathered.

"Um... Um... Uh... Is this the community club?" he asked, noticeably blushing.

He examined the room with his bespectacled eyes, trying to remember what everyone looked like for future reference.

"This is 216 right?" I said as I slouched deeper in my seat. I continued to take a good look at everyone with the blond girl was somewhat recognizable as I think I had a class with her, was her Edith? Elizabeth? Eli? Something to that effect. She was pretty cute so maybe this whole community club thing wouldn be as bad as I thought it would. Then there was the European kid whose name I hadn't caught but he seemed to be a guitar player. And then an otaku kid near the door as well as another girl, damn there are a tone of girls in this club.

"Well if we're going to be in a club together might as well introduce ourselves. I'm Ryūsei but everyone calls me Sei. I'm a senior from Okinawa originally with this being my first year here at the academy." I said sitting back in my chair relaxing as things started to get moving for the day.

As the bell rung, signaling the end of class, Andie couldn't help breaking into a smile. She jumped up from her seat, while everyone else sluggishly stood up. She raced to grab her bookbag, making a dash for the door. "Have a nice day, Ms. Kyuki!" Andie called before running into the hallway.
Practically skipping to the stairs, her smile grew larger with every step. Her phone buzzed, and Andie opened it as she scampered up the stairs. It was from her friend, reminding her about the community club. "Omw! <3333" She texted back.
Then, swiftly arriving at room 216, Andie smiled at the door. "Hello everyone! This must be the community club?" She asked, a friendly smile spreading across her face. This would be her first year in this particular club. All her previous years she'd spent in a drama club, so this was a fresh, new start. To meet new people, and make new friends.

Riley's face lit up when he heard the familiar voice, though his face was still hung low as he stared down at the podium before him. He was caught off guard when he was suddenly embraced by his friend. He returned the hug as he squeezed her tight. "Kat, I've you missed you so much!" Riley said with particular joy. He let go as she pulled away, and returned the smile gave as she stood there. "How have you been?" asked Riley as the door opened. He hadn't seen her since the end of the last school year. While Riley was very friendly to everyone he met, he rarely got particularly close to people which made Kat his best friend whether she knew it or not.

A few people started trickling in, each asking if this was the right room. Which he greeted each person with a warm smile and greeting, "Welcome, you found the right place, feel free to sit down wherever you like. We will go ahead and start in a few." There seemed to be a fair assortment of people already showing up. Riley was a bit afraid that they wouldn't even get to the required number of five to keep the club, but he was clearly wrong already. It was quite a diverse group already. His ridiculous smiled remained frozen on his face as he waited for them all to come in. Throwing another "Hi," or "Welcome to community club," as more people came in.

"This is looking like it is going to be a good year," said Riley fairly quietly directed primarily at his friend who was next to him.

Kat watched as people came in as well, smiling at all of them. She was happy that they had already surpassed the amount of people in the club from last year, and the first meeting hadn't even begun. She looked over at Riley and nodded in agreement to his last statement. "It certainly is. Sorry I didn't give you my number or anything so we could hang out over the summer, I was kind of booked with all the family stuff going on, but I will make sure to change that."

She clasped her hands together in front of her when she suddenly remembered about the strange bags in her room. She nudged Riley in the ribs. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to know anything about ghost bags moving themselves around the school, would you?" She raised an eyebrow and a sly grin grew on her face. She knew they were Riley's things without even looking at the bags. "You're such a rule-breaker, what am I going to do with you?"

Eli laughed after reading the message. She was sure her friend would just run with all her might in order to get there asap. That's Andie for you. Suddenly, she heard her.

"Hello everyone! This must be the community club?" Eli smiled upon seeing Andie

"Andie!" Eli said, approaching Andie "You're almost as fast as your own texts. But yes, you're in the right place." she said.

As everyone was talking to each other Björn leaned over and grabbed his guitar and started acoustically practicing some arpeggios from Arpeggios From Hell, though, his guitar not being plugged into anything, the noise was barely audible. He did this often, casually playing his guitar acoustically when he was bored. Though as people started introducing themselves, he figured he should do so as well, and looked up and spoke as he played, "My name ams Björn. I would tells yous, my last name, buts, I doubts any of yous could pronounce its anyways. And uh... I plays the guitars...", he said, struggling to think of much else he did that was notable. But, he really couldn't. Guitar was kind of his thing.

"Can't be that bad bruh." I said with a smile on my face as I turned and looked at Björn playing his guitar. While the sound was faint but still audible and sounded like some Neo-classical guitar playing although I wasn't familiar with the original artist or if it was an original piece. I played the bass a bit, I wasn't all that great though and preferred more funk style playing myself.

"Hey man what songs that you're playing?" I asked with a smile on my face trying to be an inviting presence in the room.

Lilya shuffled out the way of the door as more people began to enter, dispelling her fears of being late and already the chatter had begun to pick up in the room. She pulls up a chair that's set against the wall, setting herself near enough to the group to not deliberately exclude herself. Letting her satchel thunk on to the floor next to her seat swiftly followed by herself into the chair its self. Setting herself with a slightly awkward smile she listened in to the flow of conversation perforating the club room.

Noting that he seemed to be in the right place, Akisuke quietly entered the room and took a seat near the back. The large group of people forming around the front of the room didn't particularly attract him, and he didn't recognize anyone there. He swung his bag onto the desk in front of him, rifling through it for something to read. Pulling out a battered issue of Shonen Jump, he flicked through it briefly before giving it his full attention.

Hopefully once the actual club activities started things would be a little more organised.

Björn looked up to the guy who was waking to him, playing as he spoke, "It's called Arpeggios From Hell, and it was writtens by Yngwie Malmsteen. Except I'm playing in C standards, Yngwie plays in Eb.", he said, while still playing, "Playing guitars ams pretty much all I do. So I've gotten pretties good at its. Most peoples have troubles matching my speed and playing style, so I've never really played in a serious bands. And my last names is Dokumentförstörare."

As he continued playing, he glanced over at Eli to see if she was looking, and while usually, he didn't play to impress, at that moment he was in fact playing to impress. The hardest song he could play was Arpeggios From Hell, and he was going full bore at the moment. Given that Björn really only ever cared about guitar before, and girls were usually the last thing he thought about, he didn't really understand why he was trying to impress her, but he didn't really care.

Seiko went into the corridor along which the entrance to the club was supposed to be, having gotten out of a lesson earlier. Though he only participated when asked to by the teacher, it was evident that he probably knew more than the teacher of the English class. Indeed, he'd read a lot of literature in English, and spoke it fluently, despite himself being half Japanese, and half Swedish, thus not related to the country from which English originated. At least, not directly, anyway. Though he knew that among the various Germanic tribes that settled in or invaded what later became England, there were some from parts of what would come to constitute modern Sverige, including some Geats, though to a lesser extent than the Angles, Jutes, Danes and Saxons.

Refocusing his mind, Seiko carried on towards what he interpreted as the club room. The androgynous boy's gaze neared it, momentarily apprehensive, before he walked towards it, wondering who would be in the club, and what it would be like in there.

"It's impressive, wish I could play my bass that well." I said taking my seat again and looking at how he played his guitar. It was insane to me how someone could be so young and so proficient at his instrument also like he was a savant of some sort. I could see how no one could match him and even if I tried a metal base line I couldn't keep up with him in the least bit and I couldn't imagine how he would play circles around me in my usually playing style.

"So it's Dokumentförstörare?" I said butchering the name.

"Is it cool if I call you BD?" I asked since I could pronounce ether part of his name with confidence. I then noticed as he starting looking over at Eli as she greeted her friend. I could easily tell he was going for impression since it was some I did too wether it was surfing, skating, or playing bass.

"Trying to impress the blode one arent yea bruh?" I said discretly with a smile on my face.

"Don't worry about it Kat, I was pretty busy myself throughout summer," said Riley, a blatant lie. He honestly did not much of anything over the summer. He usually would go away to soccer camps throughout the entirety, but he lost his interest in soccer which left him with no activities. "I am sure we can just trade numbers before this school year ends, right?" teased Riley with a playful smile.

He began looking around the classroom, it seemed there was about ten people already. Certainly more than he expected, however, his thoughts on the club were interrupted as he felt an elbow bump his ribcage. Kat called him out on moving his stuff to her room which he replied with his face now blushing, "Me? Break the rules? I would never!" Riley chuckled as he made the obvious lie, he attempted to suppress his laugh, but to no avail. "Oh, but uh, just a heads up. Whoever is staying in your room, he kinda needs to get a few more things after the club meeting to finish moving all his stuff in."

Riley turned his head to hide his grin from Kat and glanced at the clock, 3:30. Time to start the meeting, but he would give it a couple minutes for anyone running late. Riley's voice became quiet as he said, "Do you wanna run today's meeting or shall I? Elections aren't till Friday so that just leaves us veterans to run this."

"Well then I suppose I will be meeting this stranger later today then when they enter my room, eh?" She giggled softly. "I believe you can lead this meeting, you are going to need all the influence you can get if you want to become president. It's really nice to see all of these people here, though." Kat smiled as she looked at all of the different people that were in their small little club room, even though she had not formally met any of them, she already felt like they were part of a family together. Kat looked back up at Riley. "Do I look okay today? I woke up really late and had no time to get ready, I am still not used to this sleep schedule for school."

"Eh... S-S-S-Seiko, is that you? Um... Hello there." muttered Prokop to the only other student thus far whose name he had memorized, and that was only because they were roommates. There was a lengthy pause before he said anything else.

"Never mind, I have nothing to say that would interest anyone... and I am lousy at rhetorical small talk. Did you tell me you would be here and I forgot about it?"

He pulled a sketchbook out of his backpack and flipped to an empty page. He stared at it for a moment, and then he put it back in his backpack.

"Sometimes I draw editorial cartoons as a hobby... but... but I am completely out of ideas at the moment."

He paused again for another moment.

"Do I... Do I seem... weird to you? My parents and my sisters always tell me that I am not normal, and my own experiences seem to confirm that notion."

He adjusted his ponytail and brushed his bangs forwards so they draped over his eyes.
