1939: The Second Great War (IC/AH/Open)

"Never in the field of human conflict, has so much, been owed by so many, to so few!"
-Winston Churchill
OOC--Map--Theme
1939. The world appears to be ready to fall into a conflict, nearly as large as the one that just occurred only twenty years before. In 1914 the Great War started when a member of the Slavic Nationalist group the Black Hands named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Austro-Hungarian heir Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. The war lasted until 1918, when an armistice was signed. At a meeting in the Palace of Versailles, the powers decided how to conclude the war that had ravaged the Earth. Alsace-Lorraine went to the French, German overseas colonies became independent, the German monarchy was taken from power, and their military was limited. In the East, Lenin's Communists where defeated with the help of foreign powers in 1920, however, with no Monarchy, a Russian Republic was created, and many nations found themselves independent. Germany was not the only Central powers member to be befell with disaster, as Austria and the Ottomans soon imploded from internal rebellions.

The 1920s where a decade of many Revolutions and change. Australia, inspired by the German NSDAP, revolted against their British masters in 1927, and the Fascist Free State of Australia was founded. The Palestinians revolted against the British and defeated their European overlords, similar to the Australians. The Republic of Palestine where soon created. Due to the Turks not receiving Soviet support, the Greeks won the Greco-Turkish war, and much of Anatolia became Greek land. In late 1929, the stock market crashed in the United States, signaling a worldwide depression. Germany was hit the hardest, and in 1933 a man named Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. By 1938 Germany had control of nearly all of Central Europe, however in 1938, when Germany claimed the Sudetenland was theirs', the British and French forced Hitler and Germany to stand down, however Hitler had more sinister plans: he sent his S.S. to Slovakia, where they began a civil war and by the end of the year the Czech Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic where split.

The world now appears to be gearing for a second Great War, one larger than the first. German forces stand on the border near Poland, and Iberia burns in an intense Civil War between Nationalists and Republicans, both of whom are receiving foreign support, from Germany and the Russian Republic respectively. With the "Quadruple Axis" being formed from the Third Reich, the Free Republic of Australia, Imperial Japan and the Kingdom of Italy in response to the Russo-French-British alliance. The United States seeks neutrality, despite failing to remain neutral in the first Great War. In these dark times, can the world remain in peace?

1st September 1939  11h30;
Damas ;

Al-Zaim was sitting at his desk, waiting for an telegram.
He was looking out the window and started to reflect on what he did since 1924 ; he was only a General at this time, when the puppet which was his Sultan ceided the Hatay State to Turkey in exchange of a vague promise of help when he'll declare « indépendance » from France ; Al-Zaim did what he had to do to avoid a war unpossible to win and which'll have stupidly crippled Syria.
Him and it's Division marched on Damas only one hour after the declaration surprising the whole country ; two hours later, the Sultan's Smala was massacred, the Republic declared and an unconditional surrender proposed to France.

During the three following days, fights occured in every great city but the royalists, largely outnumbered debacled completly after the death of the only remaining heir of the crown, the 4 year old Sultan Abu-Dabbi, slaughtered at Homs in the « Palais d'Eté » by the crowd.

After this, the Revolution as well as the War ended by the French recognization of the new Syrian Republic, even if the following years remained tainted by episodic royalists massacres by the « Police Secrète ».

Since then, he ruled the country with an iron fist and transformed what was a simple local power on a regional's one. Relying a lot on France help, he modernized the Agriculture and encouraged the Industrialisation, and, with the help of an hyper-interventionist policy he started to product more and more goods of first necessity rather than just importing them ; he started to exploit oil, and also modernized the Army and Navy making them the more powerful force in Middle-East.

He pursued the Westernization of the country by encouraging French Immigration and an aggressive laïcism, seeing Islam as refractory to progress and thus a weight for the country.
Althought he wanted to modernize the country, he also saw the Arabs as an superior culture and so, helped the spread of the Baa'th party in the whole Middle-East, holding the first Pan-Arabic Confederation Congress in 1927 which is now the first party in Middle-East, with more than 2,000,000 members, almost 4 times more than the communist party.

Syria supported wholeheartdely the Palestinian Revolution in 1929, and send officers and funds to the Palestinian ; the first had used the second wisely and now, most of the Palestinian Parlement as well as the newspaper are in Syrian's hand and it'll only took a little help to make Palestine be part of Al-Zaim mad dream, creating « Bilad ash-Sham » ; the Greater Syria.

As he was starting to fall asleep, an annoying sound awoke him suddenly ; the soung of a telegram being printed.
He took it and read it ; he wasn't able to repress a smile when he saw the style of writing, delied and almost poetic even in this kind of events; it was coming from Abdul, one of his sons, who he sent in Finland as an ambassador; he was annoucing him in the telegram that he succesfully negotiated an order for 40 heavy tanks, as well as an treaty of military cooperation.
When he finished to read it, he ripped it apart then threw it away.

Poland has begun mobilizing after rumors circulated that Germany is going to invade them. " We are mobilizing because of a new threat: the Third Reich. If we don't act, we will be occupied." Składkowski said at a speech. " Hail me the same way you've always hailed me. Always treat me as your leader. If we don't, we will be infected by the disease of Nazism." The crowd cheered. " If we don't, our lives will be in jeopardy."

Germany
1st September 1939

Much had changed in Europe ever since the end of the Great War. Germany had been defeated and humiliated; Germany's overseas colonies had become independent, the German monarchy was forced to abdicated, and Germany's military was reduced to a shell of its former self. The Austrians and the Ottomans fared no better, as they crumbled due to internal revolts.

The Great War brought an end to the age of monarchies and the beginning of the age of republican, fascist, and communist governments. The Great Depression hit Germany the hardest and resulted in intense hyperinflation. The situation began to stabilize in 1933, when Adolf Hitler and the NSDAP came to power, and soon, Germany was once again prospering and the German Military was rebuilt. In 1938, when Germany attempted to annex the Sudentenland, the British and French forced them to stand down. Hitler responded by sending the S.S. to Slovakia, where they started a bloody civil war.

In 1939, Germany was once again preparing to challenge the British and French by invading Poland as a means of expanding its territory in Central Europe. Hitler knew that war between the Russo-British-French alliance and the Quadruple Axis was likely, and thus began making intense preparations. German factories began to produce thousands of aircraft, artillery, tanks, weapons, and ammunition, as well as other supplies needed for the war effort. The Kriegsmarine (German Navy) was also being expanded as dozens of U-boats were under construction. Germany planned to use these U-Boats to wage unrestricted submarine warfare on enemy merchant ships and warships. Conscription, which was already in effect, was expected to boost the strength of the German Army significantly and provide more soldiers for the war effort. The German government also had plans to introduce rationing in order to make sure that there were enough resources available for the war effort.

On the 1st of September, the German Military was finally ready for the invasion of Poland, and Hitler gave the order. At 5:00 AM, 1,500,000 German soldiers, supported by 2,700 tanks, 9,000 guns, and 2,300 aircraft invaded Poland from the north and the west in a rapid Blitzkrieg attack in an attempt to overwhelm and destroy the Polish Military as quickly as possible. The Luftwaffe immediately began bombing Polish towns near the German border as the infantry continued to advance.

Hitler and the German military leadership expected a quick victory, as they believed that the Polish Military was vastly inferior to the German Military and would not last long in combat.

Germany had begun to turn into a thorn in Britains' side, constantly stirring up trouble where trouble was not needed. Although they had stopped Germany from taking the Sudetenland, it had become a popular rumour that Germany had more than a few reasons to start the civil war. Their increased production of armaments also worried Chamberlain, who in recent months had become nothing more than a figurehead with Winston Churchill running the scene, but Britain had responded by increasing it's industrial capabilities around the Empire while enlisting more troops to serve in the military should worst come to worst and a scone Great War break out which neither Britain nor France would be too eager to happen. Looking over a map of the world, Chamberlain and the other ministers saw why Germany would be desperate to quickly take Poland in the hopes of avoiding a two-front war which would drain their resources and time. Closer to home were the troublesome IRA who campaigned for independence and had caused multiple attacks on British property, leading Chamberlain to consider offering Ireland Dominion status which he hoped would calm the. And inspire them to fight alongside Britain should a war break out.

Looking westwards he saw Canada, New Zealand and the Malaysia regions which were under threat of Japanese attack through the Germans alliance with them. Chamberlain was no fool though, he understood how fanatical the Japanese soldiers were and respected them for it but he knew that they were expected to find their own food which Chamberlain hoped to exploit should war come about. To defend the region he had ordered the 5th and 8th ar,y, numbered around 30,000 men to reinforce the garrison of 20,000 there already. New Zealand was under threat from the Fascist Australia, which prompted Chamberlain to redirect some of the Royal Navy to protect that coastal region and he hoped, should the Australians break through the Navy, that the Maori tribesmen would greet them in the same way they had greeted the British, with vicious fighting. He looked to the territory Britain held in Africa, all close to the Italian Abyssinia and the Italian peninsula which worried him, he hoped to gain some sort of treaty with the rising Syrian power by selling them Egypt but leaving a British colony around the Suez Canal although he was yet to approach the leader? Chamberlain sighed as he turned to his thoughts to escape the reality of how close the world was to burning in flames.

Federal Square, Helenski, Finland

Kyösti Kallio watched from his Palace as his soldiers goose stepped down the road, With people cheering and throwing flowers at them. One would say this was a normal event but now was different, As they goose stepped Kyösti rose his hand and they followed with a Nazi Salute and "All Hail meidän ihmeellinen johtaja!!" This had of course gone noticed by his generals "Um...Sir? They aren't suppose to be doing that" Kyösti shook his head at him "Our German friends have helped us greatly, don't question their teachings" Smiling he waved his hand and the soldiers continued walking "Now, Generals. How's our preparation going?" "Our Winter Soldiers are prepared and the Stug's and Panzer IV's are also prepared." He smiled "Tell them to advance" "But sir, The main army hasn't arrived yet and out agents haven't reported back!" "Don't! Question me! Now, Tell them to advance! Or your going to eat a bullet." "Yes sir." He watched him walk over to the telegramer and tell him the orders before looking back at the parade of soldiers

"About-face!" All of the soldiers then turned right and stared at the commanding officer "I am Sigmund Bähr, We've just got orders to advance. Grab your gear and get ready! We advance in 12 hours!" All the the soldiers saluted him and he sighed "You are dismissed!" He watched the soldiers break formation and run to the tanks and armory, "They seem ready" His Left Lieutenant told him "Yes, Our training seems to be working Claire" "Oh...Bähr, What did I tell you about calling me that" She replied with a reddening face "Claire, Your face is red. And it's not very cold out here." "Ah yes, Forgive me commander." He sighed before patting her on the head "You're forgiven"

HITLER ENVAHIT LA POLOGNE!

The words that signified a German invasion of Poland were plastered all over every newspaper in France, including the one on Albert Lebrun's desk. The Leader of the French Third Republic stared at the headline for a while, taking in the gravity of the situation. So it was to begin now, today. He thought. He sat there thinking for a while longer, until he suddenly sat up.
"I did not think the Germans to be this stupid." He said to the advisors he had gathered, giving the room a much needed boost in confidence. "Yes, they have an army, a big one." He turned and addressed them all. "But we, men, we have the Line." He pulled out a map of Eastern France, a geographical map that was stained by red ink. The ink formed a series of lines, together forming one giant line that covered an area between France's border with Switzerland and the English Channel. This line was better known as the Maginot Line, a series of advanced defense works that were designed for exactly this scenario.
"The Line is Impregnable!" One of his Generals said. His words were not misguided, The line itself, paired with France's nearly 1 million available soldiers, was a formidable defensive program for any army on the planet. However, Lebrun knew if anyone could break it, Hitler would.
"Not impregnable, nothing is." He reminded his Generals. Lebrun knew he was no strategic protege, but he knew enough to never underestimate the German army. "I want to look over the Line again, look for any flaw at all, and correct it. Needless to say, you'll raise our armies as well, all of them." He ordered his minister of defense, before turning to the Head of the French Foreign Legion. "Raise the Foreign Legion as well, we'd be fools to think that Germany's allies will stay away from our colonies in Africa." The Foreign Legion numbered almost 30,000, which put the total number of active French Forces at just over 930,000 men. This was not including the nearly 7 million French men who had received some form of military training. We will need them eventually, but we must hold the line first.

Official Transmission of the French Third Republic
To: The United Kingdom and the Russian Republic

It appears that the time we have dreaded has come upon us, friends. Hitler and his German Nazis have invaded out longtime ally, Poland. To stand idly by and observe this atrocity would be inhumane of us, but to rush into another Great War would be just as foolish. Yes, we must declare war on Hitler, but not today, or tomorrow for that matter. I request that the UK aides my Frenchmen in forming a defense of Western Europe, and that Russia performs a similar action to the east. After our defenses are set, then we declare war. This is the will of France, and her people, and my will as well.
Signed,
Albert Lebrun, President of the French Third Republic

Poland, being attacked invaded Danzig. Meanwhile, at the German-Polish border, 1,500 troops enter with a surprise attack. 500 troops came first, taking the Germans by surprise and phase 1 was completed. Then 1,000 more troops entered at night while the government made propaganda to make adults 21 or older to join the military.
And meanwhile in Warsaw, 1,400 troops marched to cheer up the population during the invasion.

The Russian President had a dilemma. His country had went from a great power, to a broken, weak nation, but under his and his predecessors, guiding hands the country started to flourish. Many of the Civil War and Great War scars were healed, but one scar remained, the lost territories, and the people wanted them back. President Ivanov had been elected under the pretense that he would continue to support their allies and reconquer the lost Russian territories....

It was almost time.., but for now he had other problems, the Germans and Fins had become more and more aggressive lately and it seemed like war was on the horizon. Ivanov decided to send the Saint Petersburg Army to the Baltic border, the Minsk Army to the Polish border and the Arkhangelsk army to the Finnish border, earlier that week and the factories had started producing war supplies as soon after the German aggression started. "Better safe than sorry" he thought. Just then a commander walked in "Sir, the Germans have invaded Poland, what should we do?" "Nothing, we will wait for the British and French to respond." replies Ivanov "Yes Sir." the commander leaves.Later that day..... The French Telegram arrives at the Kremlin. "The French say to wait sir." an advisor says to the president. "Okay then we will wait, but open the draft, we are going to need every last man and woman when we declare war on Germany."

Chamberlain grew frustrated as he read of the Finnish mobilisation as well as the French which only served to antagonise the Germans and Russians, never a good idea in any form. Churchill opened the door to Chamberlains office, holding a telegram "I told you war would come" he gloated although with sadness in his voice before placing the telegram on. Chamberlains desk "The Froggies think it appropriate to attack Germany as soon as the defences are in place and have asked us to supply them with troops to help in this attack" he added, handing Chamberlain a pen and paper "Tell them to remain on the defence and reinforce the Ardennes forest, just because they think it impossible does not mean a slewd general will not try it"

To the French Republic

I have received your telegram but I must say the plans are... Audacious in the least. Attacking Germany will stir support from their people and will view us as the invaders which would do little to serve our purpose. No. I suggest reinforcing the Maginot Line and the Ardennes forest to protect you from multiple areas of attack but be mindful of the Spanish as their civil war may spill over. I will send the British Expeditionary Force to France, numbered around 23,000 men to help with the defences and I will blockade the German ports should War occur.

Signed
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain

"Death to all who stand in the way of freedom for a working people!"

September 2, 1939.

"Sergi?"

"Da, Ivan?"

"It's time."

For most of it's existence, the Revolutionary Ruthenian Liberation Army stuck to the shadows. Launching raids on Russian arsenals and gathering support from local Ukrainian farmers. Blood in the water was smelt however, and the RRLA, better known as the Second Black Army or simply the Black Army, began to become bolder and bolder. With rumors of Finnish soldiers marching into Karelia and much of Russian's military shifted to other fronts, many Ukrainian militants were called from the forests and hovels they hid in and began to coalesce in something resembling an actual army. They melded into several sympathetic villages on the outskirts of Styri.

As dawn broke, phantoms manifested from the darkness. Sergi and Ivan were two of eleven-thousand, two hundred. They were young and bored peasants. Normally, they would be condemned to a dull life of farming, finding some ugly lass and then dying of some easily preventable disease. But they were swept up, by the thundering talk of equality and prosperity under Socialism, of being given a rifle and a purpose. So they left their families, and fought. While initially, the young months of guerilla warfare wore on, when the two friends had heard of the plan to take Styri, morale was greatly amplified. Finally! A chance to actually make a difference!

Ammunition was distributed and they quickly consumed their rations of bread and pork, food both willingly donated by sympathizers and piffered from those who refused to give. After all, it was for the greater good and anyone who wouldn't give up a little for the freedom of the Ukrainian people were obviously no less then filthy Russian Imperialist lap-dogs.

The army was mostly equipped with dated rifles, many being having seen used in the first war and the Russian civil war. The bulk of the army itself was made up of green, inexperienced and somewhat poorly trained young idealists, peppered with older veterans of the civil war nearly two decades pass and deserters from the Russian army. Leading them, was Viktor Aleksа́ndrovich Ilyushin. Once a twenty-one year old Captain in the Russian army in 1920, he was enchanted with Lenin's dream of a worker's utopia and deserted with his military unit. After the Bolsheviks defeat, he fled into hiding for nearly fifteen years before re-appearing.

Now, he led the marching army of nearly a dozen crudely made armored cars, several hundred horse-towed wagons mounted with machine guns and even several pieces of antique horse-towed artillery. A pitiful army by modern standards, but they were high on ambition and spirit.

Hopefully, Viktor thought to himself, it would be enough. Their plan was rather painfully simple. Storm Styri, a city of thirty-thousand with a local police force estimated to be numbering over no more then a thousand at the most liberal guess, blockade the city and proclaim a Ukrainian's Peoples Republic. At that point, it was hoped that their nation would be recognized by countries hostile to Russia and the Ukrainian people themselves would rise up in the masses against their Russian oppressors. Viktor of course, knew the plan was idealistic at best but he merely downed a bottle of Vodka, and exclaimed to himself: "Fuck it!" He was nothing but a hunted dog ever since Lenin was defeated. May as well go down a martyr.

So, like wolves, the Socialist army descended upon Styri.

However, that eleven-thousand strong militia wasn't made up only a quarter of forces at least claiming to be aligned to the Black Army. Throughout the rest of the Ukraine, but primarily in the Western and Central portions nearly twenty-three thousand other fighters, rather they be loosely aligned cells or lone wolves - the Black Army was by no means a centralized organization - swore themselves directly to the Black Army's cause. They weren't organized into an actual conventional army like the men who were liberating Styri, but they still intended to do their part. All over the Ukraine, guerillas began to cause mayhem.

Actions:
- Over eleven thousand militants storm Styri, in the Western Ukraine.
- Two thousand guerillas set fire to government buildings, open fire on the homes of Russian governmental workers and attempt to take hostages, raid local armories and fire upon small barracks and police stations in Kiev.
- Failed attempt by one hundred and fifty militants to sabotage the Black Sea fleet under the cover of night while at Anchor at Sevastopol with minimal damage caused.
- Six thousand men, in bands of varying sizes but of no more then four hundred, raid up and down the Dnieper, seizing Russian shipping, lynching ethnic Russians, press-ganging Ukrainians into the Black Army and taking agricultural assets to feed their army.
- A thousand ethnic Ukrainians sabotage rail and oil pipe-lines in the Caucasus.
- Three thousand loot in Kharkiv.
-Three bands of two hundred each attempt to slip past border patrol into Poland, Slovakia and the Baltic states and gather support for the movement there.
I am from the United States, just so you know.

Male.

Edvard Benes
Office of the President,
Prague, Czech Republic
2 September, 1939

The older man stubbed out his cigarette as the army officer in front of him finished his briefing. "The lines have stabilized, Mr. President. We could begin an offensive..in about two weeks time. One final thing sir: it appears that the Germans have initiated an invasion of Poland. We don't have any specific reports, but preliminaries indicate the Polish are putting up a decent defense. If that'll be all sir?" He snapped a salute.

"Thank you Major, that'll be all." The officer dropped the salute and left. As the officer walked out, his secretary walked in: "Prepare to dictate a telegram." The secretary nodded and sat at the small desk near the President's large one. "One to the Russian Republic, to the French and to the British." The secretary nodded and the President began typing.

Dear Sir,

Jacques Lafayette stood in the concrete bunker of observation post quatorze, his eyes straining to look through the binoculars, scanning the flat terrain ahead of him. Just like old times. He thought to himself. He was a veteran of the Great War, and this type of war was not new to him. That will be our advantage, we are used to this sort of thing. No war had been declared yet, but everyone knew it was coming. It seemed every few hours more men arrived at the Line, taking their positions in the fortifications or on the guns. So many guns. He thought, many more than there had been in the Great War. They were bigger too, anti-tank and anti-air guns alike.

Paris, France
The Ardennes... indeed, not a bad idea. Lebrun forwarded Chamberlain's telegram to his Generals, with his consent to fortify the thick forest, an area which was previously though to need no man made fortification. His men would have to set up less advanced defenses, given their shortage of time, but they would be ready in time. Already, word had reached Algiers and Tunisia of the invasion of Poland and Lebrun's order to mobilize the Foreign Legion. 150,000 men were on the Maginot Line, and thousands more were on the way. Lebrun had also ordered a few divisions to travel south, to near France's border with Italy, to make sure the Italians did not attempt a preemptive strike. Telegrams had also been sent to Belgium and the Netherlands, asking them to undergo a join partnership with France in order to create another branch of the Maginot line north into their nations, an action that would benefit both them and France.

"They control the north while we control all of Portugal and southern Spain sir. The Basque army has taken Vitoria. The Catalonians are preparing an offensive to take Barcelona. The Republican Army has stalemated at Valladoid. The demarcation line of Falange held land and Republican land is parallel with Valladoid. It is a straight line coast to coast. A stalemate all the way across sir.", said a general. President Azaña studied the map. "Can the marines make a naval landing in Galicia?", the President asked. The generals looked at each other. "We will take a look at our assests and get back to you on that plan sir.", said a general. They all got up and left the office. President Azaña stared at the map. Iberia is burning in flames due to this civil war. The economy is down and so is morale. Protests in the streets every day over the war. Some politicians want to negotiate peace. The end looks dim for both sides right now.

TOKYO

TODAY was, in the humble opinion of Prince Konoe (Prime Minister of Japan, Regent for Korea, and assorted other things), not a good day at all. No, it was in fact a rather trying day. Things just kept getting worse and worse, and there was no chance of remittance. All sorts of different idiots took turns doing different idiotic things, and the most he could do was scowl at them. It wasn’t proper for a Prime Minister to do much more than scowl.

Oh, and engage in sneaky underhanded mockery of opponents using the most respectful and formal of language, the subtler the better. That too.

It had started out just fine. Day in the life of Japan’s second-highest official and the most powerful non-god in the nation. He’d gotten up, had his breakfast, and was in his offices early in the day and ready for anything. Or so he thought. That optimism lasted until his secretary had shuffled into the room, bowed, and placed a missive on his desk. He’d ignored it for about an hour, picked it up on a whim, and learned that the Black Dragons, an insane cabal of either ultranationalists or pan-Asian unionists (who could tell anymore?), had blown up a government building in Shanghai. He’d spent the rest of the day handling that mess, making the proper official noises about opposition, and privately hoping that he wasn’t going to get assassinated for this.

Even if the assorted overexcited gunmen weren’t as freakishly active as they had been at the beginning of the decade, every once and a while someone important was mowed down at a train station in a hail of revolver bullets and extremist invective. And Konoe had better things to do than bleed out on dirty floor tiles. He had a country to run and an absurdly expansionist Army which seemed of late to be running on its own to manage. There was no time to get killed.

And as if things couldn’t possibly get worse than they already had (and dealing with Black Dragons was annoying enough), the Germans decided that their best possible course of action was to invade Poland and in doing so provoke the French, English, and Russians all at the same time. It was needless to say that the Poles probably disapproved of this too.

These idiots were about to start another Great War, expecting it to somehow turn out better than it had last time. And their ambassador was outright begging Konoe to sign Japan onto their moronic little Axis.

Tojo – boring little Fascist – was keen on it. But realistically, it would do nothing but drag Japan into a fight with the English, which would be dangerous, and probably the Americans soon after, which would spell out the end for Japan as an imperial power and kill the dream of Asian freedom that Konoe still cherished.

Getting into damn foolish wars wasn’t the way to get it done.

That being said, war always had a place in any situation. It was only a matter of time before Germany decided to fight the French and English, and when they did the Australian scum would happily scurry on with them. Any sane German general would, as Admiral Yamamoto (an eminently sensible man, Konoe knew), clearly drive through Belgium and Holland. And with those nations in the war, Australia would probably strike for the Malaysian Archipelago if only because it wasn’t an annoying desert.

All the better for Japan – it would be a simple matter for the IJN to crush the pathetic Australians, take the archipelago away from their grasping little claws, and stir up some nationalism amongst the Indonesians and Malays while they were at it. The damnable Dutch would never get their colony back, and Japan would have itself a new friend – and more importantly, a new and extremely grateful trading partner.

Things came easily when taking the long view.

Which is why, of course, he was about to take the slightly unpleasant but probably quite rewarding step of making overtures to the British. And engaging in some healthy influence-mongering while he was at it.

FOREIGN MINISTRY FOR THE GLORIOUS EMPIRE OF JAPAN, ALSO REPRESENTING THE REGENCY STATE OF KOREA AND THE TAIWAN FREE STATE
ADDRESSED TO THE FOREIGN MINISTRY OF THE EMPIRE OF GREAT BRITAIN

Foreign Minister,

On behalf of the Emperor of Japan and his people, I greet you. Although tensions have been running high as of late in regards to a number of different stress points and differences in view relating to the British colonies within Asia, our nations are nevertheless bound together by a common history and ideal. It was England, after all, who first trained the Imperial Japanese Navy which has risen to such power. And during the Great  War, Japan helped England in return by protecting its Mediterranean sea routes against German predation.

Who can, of course, forget how our two countries fought and bled together in Russia, triumphing over the evils of Communism and building a more righteous and free Russia? Japan and England battled through snows, fogs, mountains, plains, cities, farms, and neverending hordes of Bolshevik scum together, and our countries were bonded and made friends by the crucible of harsh and brutal combat. This triumph cannot be forgotten, as it is something that we laboured towards as allies and friends.
Now, the time has come again for a great shaking of the world. Germany wishes to set the world ablaze once more, and Boshevism is on the rise again in China. These are the two enemies – Germany, who through its Australian puppet is already questing to subject Asia and undo all progress in our historic struggle for freedom, and Bolshevism, that insidious plague which knows neither decency nor honour.

I have a feeling that like Japan, England is one of the few nations who still can recall what honour truly means.

As such, I convey from the Prime Minister, Prince Konoe, the official message that in the event of a European war, Japan will align itself with Britain and against the Germans.

Good day,

Foreign Minister Yosuke Matsuoka[code]

[code]FOREIGN MINISTRY FOR THE GLORIOUS EMPIRE OF JAPAN, ALSO REPRESENTING THE REGENCY STATE OF KOREA AND THE TAIWAN FREE STATE
ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Honourable President,

I will be brief.

Although Japan may at first seem to be a rather strange nation for a potential ally against Germany, the fact remains that our nation detests above all other things colonialism and ideas of racial superiority such as those which the Nazis peddle. Japanese people have been discriminated against around the world for decades, if not centuries, and as a result our people and even the Divine Emperor feel a great empathy for those who could also stand as victims of evil racist ideology. The Empire stands with you against the ham-handed attempts by the Nazis at German hegemony in your country and spits on their ways.

As such, the Imperial Japanese Army will, all nations in between willing, ship to Czechoslovakia its latest equipment, including rifles, artillery, and light tanks. We wish to observe the combat performance of our gear, and this is an excellent way to start. We are also willing to dispatch small numbers of military advisors to your nation so as to experiment with tactical doctrine and aid your country's chances against the imperialists which we both so despise.

All Japan wishes you the best of fortune in your conflict,

Foreign Minister Yosuke Matsuoka

West Ukraine
Very dubious men were marching through Russia, but no one understood how they got there, or for what reason. Men dressed in dark green uniforms with caps bearing the same color, having in the middle a golden eagle with a cross and a sword in its claws. Anyone who ever was in Romania could understand however, that those weren't mere gentlemen passing through Ukraine, they were Romanian BRE agents, and when BRE moves its agents to a specific place, it does so for a specific reason. The men begun going from house to house, from village to village, in the clearly heavily populated ruthenian villages and towns of western Ukraine, showing something to each and everyone of them. They had in their hands banners of the Black Army, the infamous Ukrainian revolutionary army, and so they were asking where they could talk to a leader. The ukrainians weren't even sure who they were, how could they be sure if they could trust these men, and their intentions? But will they? Will they trust Romanian Secret Agents who came right in the middle of the Wolf's den, without any weapons, threatening no one, simply strolling through towns searching for their protectors?
(This is addressed only to the Black Army dude and Russia may or may not know of this since it's on their territory, anyone else cannot bear any information about what I expressed in this RP post unless they are given that info by me, Ukraine, or perhaps Russia if they know my agents are there. Furthermore, the agents are 3-4, and have disguises with them. They dressed in their uniforms for the villages only to appear as if they had more authority.)

Bucharest, Romania
''Your majesty, may I?'' A voice was heard behind the elegantly decorated oak doors marking the entrance to his majesty's chambers after he gently knocked. The King, on the other side of the door, was having a little chat, or perhaps something more, with 3 of his generals and his foreign ministers about what was to happen with Romania, the Balkans, Europe, and even the world.
'' You may.'' The young emissary was bearing a letter in his hands, and after he bowed to the king and the other gentlemen he handed the letter to the king, then proceeded to leave.
'' What's it say your ma-'' Said the Foreign Minister Anton Popescu, interrupted by the King.
'' Read it, to us all.'' Said the king with authority.
'' Your highness, King of Romania, ruler of Oltenia, Transylvania, Moldova, etc... Your humble servants BRE are sending you this report of events that have recently transpired throughout Europe.
-In Poland, at the border it seems some of our agents were placed right, since they Germans crossed it and started marching on nearby polish villages. One of our agents were seized however it seems, and we expect of him to have poisoned himself to avoid interrogation.
-In France, larvas in the French Military have reported that the upper ranks have met, as they are most likely discussing the war with the Germans. BRE expects the French to try their hand at another World War 1 situation, while the british have not done anything that came into our attention, for now.
-Our agents have moved as instructed to persuade the Black Army to help us. We expect them to either be accepted, escape if not, or die in the worst case. If they are to be accepted, we will begin operations alongside the Ukrainians and help them in any way they deem necessary.
-In Russia word has it that the Fins are moving towards the Russian border, however we are not sure if this information is true or false, but we felt that if Finland would even let such rumors circulate, then they are indeed hostile to Russia.''
''The Ukrainians would prove more destroying then anything, your majesty. They will destroy roads and supply lines.'' said one of the Generals.
'' Yes, I know. But we cannot stop now. All plans have been set in motion. Almost all plans. Order the dry docks of Galati, Tulcea and Constanta, aswell as the Ismail Port, to start as soon as they get the materials to produce more ships. I expect the materials will get there in time, yes?''
'' Y-yes your majesty, the materials we purchased from around Europe and the USA are ready. Most shipment is either in Timisoara or Constanta, and we will begin moving it at once.'' Said another gentleman, in a white uniform.
'' Good, order or army to move towards the southern border, and begin to mobilize the population. We cannot let the nations of Europe think that Romania will stand by while such aggressors act with impunity, do we gentlemen? As for Bulgaria, I will soon send a letter regarding the horrible position of their country. They must either bend or break. There is no alternative. Am I clear?''
'' Yes your majesty.'' The lot of them said, saluting the king.

Imperial State of IranImage"Sunshines in Shah's land"

Tehran Imperial Palace, Tehran, Imperial State of Iran
The Shah of the Imperial State of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was sitting on his chair, a minute later, an advisor arrive on Shah's office. He bowed to the Shah and he said, "My Shah, it seems this year is a good point of our conquest, Westernization, and modernization, what will be your command for this Imperial State today?" The Shah said, "This state has a future, I have thinking about expansion in our neighbours, the whole Middle East and Central Asia, we will also annex our satellite state which is the State of Caucasia but first, I want to focus on Central Asia and the domestic affairs." the advisor said, "That's a good start, my Shah, are we going to declare war with the Islamic Republic of Turkestan and Pakistan?" the Shah said, "Not yet but we will start our conquest to their land without knowing their territory, plus, it's our rival and rivals must die. The Operation will be called "Operation: Zoroastrianist", we will vanish the Islam religion, the religion gives terrorism in the future world and establish Zoroastrianism in that land, understood!?" and the advisor said, "Yes, my Shah.." the advisor bowed to the Shah and left his office.

To: Leader of the Syrian Republic
From: Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Shah of the Imperial State of Iran

Greetings, people of the Syrian Republic,

We all know that we descend from our European masters, how about we will have a free trade agreement and a economic pact? Sure, we need to strengthen our economy and trading. I hope you read this message, the leader of the Republic.

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi,
Shah of the Imperial State of Iran

Imperial Square, Tehran, Imperial State of Iran

The people of Tehran are waiting for the Shah in the Imperial Square, the people were chanting each other, a moment of silence that the Shah arrived in the Imperial Square, the people were cheering as the Shah arrived.

Shah's speech: Citizens of the Imperial State of Iran, a new age has just begun, Westernization, modernization, all of them are finished! We are no longer a poor state, we thanked to our British masters who just colonized us for 215 years which made Iran; a modernised state and a civilised state, we should also thanked them that they give us independence. And now, as days goes by, we want the Imperial State to be powerful in Southwest Asia, we must conquer lands for purposes; we need resources to avoid economic depression! That's what we want, right!? Now, we will vanquish this dirty religion; Islam, which the religion is terror, the Islamic Republic of Turkestan and Pakistan are nothing but a weak state! Turkestan was colonized by a backward empire, the Russian Empire and Pakistan just separated to the British Raj which is no good, we will invade them and join to our prosperous Imperial State, are we ready...for WAR!?" the people shouted, "WAR!" and Shah said, "[i]It means, war!"

Miliye Suez Ni'iab (Operation Suez Wolf) :

Image

During the October 12th night, at approximatively 2h00 UTC +2:00; ninety-five Syrian soldiers, disguised and equiped as British Colonial Troups, crossed the Egyptian/Palestinian border and perpetred a plannified plunder of the town of Al-Buyki, killing more than 500 people, majoritarly women and children; before fleeing as the sun was rising.

This act, perfectly planified and executed, was the final outcome of a politic of Syrian propaganda in Palestine aiming to peacefully annex it and make it part of the Al-Zaim dream of Bilad Ash-Sham (a Greater Syria).
This event created a national indignation as well as an wave of fear of another British annexion. During the following day; the Palestinian Parlement, which completly was under Pan-Arabists and Syrian's puppet control had to decide of the stance to adopt in result of what seemed like an British declaration of War.

The House of Commons bustled with activity as Chamberlain walked up to the podium, a script held in his shaking hands. As he placed them down he asked for silence which was obliged too, he cleared his throat and began speaking:

"Last night on October the 12th 1939 an unnamed nation, disguised as British soldiers, have deliberately and with the foreknowledge of our reaction invaded the independent state of Palestine thereby placing the blame on the Britain and allowing our grip in the Middle East to shake! I tell you that this will not be accepted by myself or any sane man who has a shred of respect!" he said with increased excitement and with cheers from parliament "We will seek out the nation that has caused this attack on British integrity and we WILL react with the appropriate amount of force!" he yelled before stepping down from the podium and taking his seat as cheers continued to echo through the halls of Parliament

12th October 1939, 15h30;
Jerusalem ;
Palestinian Parlement ;

Since the British Incursion of the previous day, the Assembly was almost turning into a pitched battle itself.
Some people were debating when other were trying unsuccesfully to harangue the crowd of deputy.
The situation was at this point since the parlement gathered, almost seven hours earlier and it seemed that it won't go further anytime soon 'till the Palestinian President Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, loosing his usual calm shouted loudly three time to impose the silence.

What happened yesterday was horrible, he sayed, but the question all of us have to answer is, what should we do now? Even if the british denied any responsability in this slaughter, I don't think I'll surprise anyone by saying that none of us believe them.
A wave of approbation went trought the room.
“We can't let this crime impunished, he continued, but we also can't go to war against the U.K; not in our position.
-It's not like we are the one who want this war!
shouted some deputy”
Another wave of approbation, louder this time, followed this declaration.
Indeed, none of us want that; the president replicated; we loose enough of our men ten years ago to learn that the british are ruthless enemy. But what what is the most important now is to talk about how handling this situation; and that's why all of us are here; to decide of the futur of this country.
So, let me ask you, my fellow deputy, what should we do?”

Al-Husseini waited for someone to answer him but among the three-hundred men in the room, no one was talking nor even looking at him; he sighed and was about to sit when Izz al-Din al-Qassam started to talk, he was one of the most influent member of the Baa'th Party and an exceptionnal orator but he was also known as an Syriophile which was something Al-Husseini liked way less.

“My brothers;
he started; yesterday was a day of sorrow, we cried for our deads and we cursed their british murderers. But, today is a day of logic, we shouldn't let our pain nor our desire of vengeance make us a blind to a simple fact; we are weak.”
While he was saying that, the crowd was starting to murmur more and more loudly.
“We don't have a single chance to win a war against the british; he sayed louder to cover the crowd's noise; so what I propose to you, mister President, is to agree to what we refused since the last decade.
To agree, to the Syrian's offer of being part of Bilad Ash-Sham.”

As he throwed this words to the assembly, the whole room exploded in shouts and yells.

Beijing, China
President Lin Sen and Mao Zedong had a talk about the Unified Front operations against Japan, Beiyang Army, Qing loyalists and various separatist groups. The troops of the Chinese National Defence Force and the Chinese Red Army guarded the talk.

Changchun, China
The Unified Front patrolled Changchun, the capital city of Jilin, as IJA troops might plan to attack it.

13th October 1939  9h30;
Damas;
Presidential Palace's Balcony;

Al-Zaim was now at his balcony, haranguing the crowd under him.
People of Syria, today is a great day; he sayed; today is the day Palestine choose to join us, today is the first day of a new era, the era of Bilad Ash-Sham !”
More than 200. 000 started to shout together “Bilad Ash-Sham! Bilad Ash-Sham! Bilad Ash-Sham!”
Al-Zaim made a move with his hand and the whole crow silenced in a second, he smiled a little.

“But, he continued, today is just the first day of the Syrian Reunification. We have still so much to do; we have to take back what the Turkish and Irakish stole us, we'll take back the lands they're occupating and free our compatriot who are living under their tiranny!”
The crowd started to yell enthousiastly again, he let them express their emotion a little then made them shut again.

“We'll reclame the land who're rightfully ours; he sayed; and one day, we'll unite all the arabic nation under our banner, and no one'll be able to ever stop us! Long Live the Republic and Long Live Syria!”

After saying this, he turned his back to the crowd which was now in euphory and exit the balcony.

"Everyone! Get ready!" Sigmund yelled over the sound of the tanks starting "Yes Sir!" He watched the men sprint for the tanks and climb aboard the back "Engineers! Get the tanks in line formation! Stug's first then Panzer's!" He yelled while waving off one of the soldiers "Sir? Are we really doing this?' He sighed before taking off his leather glove and resting his hand on her head "Claire, Don't worry about me. I know this will work." "Yes, Sir." He watched her salute him before turning back to the tanks "This is so something new."

Chamberlain had been napping in his chair when he was awoken by Churchill with the slapping on files onto a wooden desk "It seems the Japanese intend to stay friendly if war were to occur, perhaps we can exploit this kindness to maintain a presence in the Pacific Ocean and their forces to invade Australia should they try to outreach" he said quickly before taking out a copy of The Daily Mail with the headline in bold MIDDLE EAST ERUPTING? which, naturally, bothered him as it gave the false pretense the Britain would intervene. He took up the paper and began reading it:

Today the radical Syrian president, Al-Zaim, has announced the his support and endorsement of the Palestinian parliaments decision to assimilate into the 'Pan-Arabic Nation' with further plans to invade Turkey and Iraq. Clearly Prime Minster Chamberlain was unable to deflate tensions in the Middle East after the '39 Incident which left Palestine blaming them for threatening to invade them, if you agree with us and call for Chamberlains IMMEDIATE resignation!

Chamberlain threw the paper away "Bloody tabloids can't get anything right!" he sighed, resting his head in his hands before looking at the map "Reinforce Egypt and Raj, I don't want them lost through invasion" he commanded before opening a bottle of Scotch and drinking from it.

Ireland planning room

The morning was icy cold and the weather was sure to get even worse but that was not all that was happening in Ireland that day across the street in an inconspicuous warehouse a group of 15 men were being prepared for a mission that would send shockwaves not only through the empire but through the heart of the civilized world what they were planning was operation Green Thunder, Operation green thunder was a mission which had two major objectives and one minor objective, the First major objective was to poison London's water supply with chemicals made in Irelands very own rebel laboratories the second objective still a important as the first was to plant bombs on big ben and force it to crumble just like the very empire that had built it and the last objective was only of minor importance it was to cause as much destruction as possible before escaping. "Men my name is Charlie kerrins I am in charge of this missions success so what I tell you is of the upmost importance, You all know your jobs but I have a special present for you..." *Charlie reached into his pocket pulling out a handful of cyanide capsules* "Men these are so you don't have to suffer British torture as well as to show them that we control when and how we die... Pleas each of you take one and hide it in your mouth before the mission." The group of men looked nervously around at each other none wanting to be the first to reach four the capsule of white death until a young man of perhaps only nineteen grabbed on and uttered "Hurry up we don't have all day!" one after another the men grabbed one and hid them in their mouth for safe keeping knowing they would be in London by tomorrow.

Good evening, You don't know me but my name is Charlie Kerrins commander of the IRA the army that will free my homeland from your clutches. here is how this will go I am a reasonable man but a bit impatient every now and then and this is one of those times I would very much like it if you were to declare the entire island of Ireland a sovereign free state separate economically socially and politically from great Britain in return we promise full military support in case of your invasion as well as access to our ports and holdings and this is the sugar in your tea we might even give up the names of a few of our state sponsors.
