They are realms, not kingdoms. Anyway, for Franks/Normans, I'm not sure, but for the Italians, Röken and the Kopper March.

I like the war rhino concept, perhaps giving them a carapace instead. As for the terror birds, sure why not? I'll add them to the beastarium after I figure out some weaknesses.

Would that be specific to a single realm or like a common beast of war type of thing?

...

I just had a wonderful idea.

Terror Bird cavalry. If anyone actually had the balls to ride on the back of a twelve foot tall carnivorous bird, it would look stupendous. Impractical, but amazing.
If we affirm one moment, we thus affirm not only ourselves but all existence. For nothing is self-sufficient, neither in us ourselves nor in things; and if our soul has trembled with happiness and sounded like a harp string just once, all eternity was needed to produce this one event—and in this single moment of affirmation all eternity was called good, redeemed, justified, and affirmed.

Norman? Rivemia is perhaps close. I imagine it as taking elements from Normandy, England, Germany and Poland.

I'll be posting tomorrow, I promise. Had an insane week this week, and I'm not going to be going back to my normal sleep cycle for a little while now!
Anyway, as I said I'll be posting the great crusade's beginning tomorrow.

Terror Bird Cavalry. That sounds like the most crazy impractical thing I've heard of on NS, because no actual terror bird was ver large enough...

Then I had a look on Google.

Now I really, really want to see something like this badass image appear:

Welcome! Don't bother reading through the OOC, everything useful that you should probably know is in my second post in a spoiler. As for joining, if you want to be a house, currently the tiny Realm 1 is available. However, as several people have been inactive, and some may quit there may be more openings. If you want to be a kingdom, simply invent one that is to the west of Pandyssium. A character could be anything, a mercenary, a merchant, etc. And there are still openings for vassals for several realms. Any questions so far? Feel free to ask me or Mesrane (Co-Op) or anyone else.

I have but one question (at the moment. I'm an inquisitive type). Any important infor about lil' ol' realm 1 that I should be aware of? It's obviously got already established history and I'd like to know it before I consider making my own app for it

Depends. The player that formerly controlled 1 had a house called House Wolfson, and the island was correspondingly known as Wolfsland. If you want to look over his app to get details on that, feel free.

However, that guy did very little and therefore House Wolfson has done practically nothing to this point. Ergo you can make your own house from scratch, if you want. The ethnic make up and history would also be up to you, just keep in mind that you begin as a vassal to the emperor and that Titus Rahtis incorporated your realm into the empire about ~430 years ago, whether by war or otherwise is up to you. That's basically the only essential historical information needed to craft an app. Though it definitely helps to flit through the first few pages of the IC and determine how your house did (or didn't) vote at Caer Aard, as tedious as that will be.

It's not finished because I'm shitty with statistics and numbers and I'm tired, though most of it is there. This is just a basic draft and I'm bound to make several changes, but this is the basic idea I have. If I've completely bastardized the history without realizing then please tell me and I'll self flagellate. Also, spoiler's being dumb, so enjoy the text wall

NS Nation Name: Katyuscha (Call me Katy/Katty)

House Name: Viridis

House Banner:
Image

Description of House: (History/Customs etc.) The House Viridis got its name, as most natives of the isles did, from the abundance of precious gems and stones that were the islands name sake and were simple jewelers, miners, and diamond cutters, selling their goods locally for little reward. Eventually, tired of the tough compitition and general cheap prices that their products, such as jade and emeralds were being sold at locally, the head of the house, High Jeweler Gardo Viridis, gambled the family fortunes on building a boat, which he sailed to the mainland and set up shop, planning to sell more practical goods, like fish and small trinkets. He was pleasantly surprised when the mainlanders began taking interest in the tiny jade and emerald embroidered decorations that he had placed off to the side. They began buying them up for exorbitant prices and Gardo returned to the isles a rich man.

Eventually, the Viridis family had monopolized the trade of jade and gems and used the money to build a powerful trading fleet and top merchants and stewards from all over the known world. When Titus Rahtis landed on the isles with his legions at his back, he found himself in the middle of a civil war between the tribal king of the Island and the power hungry house Viridis. Titus, being a smart general, made a deal with Gardo. They would support his family in taking the Jade thrown if they would pledge their loyalty and surrender the isles to the empire. A bargain was quickly struck and with the help of the imperial soldiers, House Viridis had become the undisputed depots of the Island. On top of that, they were allowed to keep their monopoly on the lucrative gem trade and they Island of Hoimeais Glas (Green Land) was renamed Viridium Isle.

What is House's view on the Empire?: Exceedingly positive. It was the empire that put their family in power and preserved their wealth and authority over its people. They are likely to side with the empire on most issues, unless they go against their core values. The Isles still happily provide a large portion of their navy to the Imperial Fleet.

Description of Head of House: Arbori Sanosi Viridis is a tall, pompous man. Standing at just under 6'5 with a voice as large as him, he is an intimidating site to those who've never met him. In reality, he's extremely daft and rather quite squishy. He tends to transition between moments of extreme lucidity and senseless babbling. Truley a sign that the inbreeding his family is so famous for is only reaching the point of no return. At 51 years of age, he has only the faintest memory of hair remaining on his head. All of which seems to have moved to his face, where he sports a styled mustache and great, bushy beard. He has bright green eyes, not uncommon amongst the locals and pale white skin from his time indoors. He's a rather reserved man who only speaks when spoken to or when in an intense state of mania, though rarely says anything of substance. Only wearing the finest dress available and of the latest fashion, most see him as a clueless and pompous idiot, some even calling him unfit to rule and this may be true.

Description of Relevant House Members:

Morea Gozalo Viridis, 36, female: Younger sister of Lord Arbori and his most trusted advisor. A tall, strong, and blunt woman, she is master of the Viridian Isles armies and, while she doesn't agree with most of the aspects of her brothers lordship, follows him ever so loyally to the grave.

Gallio, the Hangman, Viridis, 40, Cousin to Arbori and marshal of the realm, he is known for his no nonsense attitude toward dissent and generally hated by the populace.

Court Position Request: Chamberlain 2

Seat of Power: Emerald Province, Emerald City, Emerald Palace

Realm Number: 1

Realm Name: The Viridium Isles

Realm Description: Long before the empire and even before the arrival of men on the continent, the Viridium Isles were once home to a collective tribe of elves known as the Glasaigi (commonly referred to as Green Elves) who called the land . Mostly cut off from the mainland kingdoms and the rest of their race, the tribes of Hoimeais Glas, or the Green Lands, formed a society, while similar in some ways to their brothers on the mainland, was also radically different. Most Green Elves practiced a form of ancestor worship in where they praised their ancestors as gods and believed themselves to be the reincarnated souls of their forfathers in an endless cycle of rebirth. Most of their homes would be decorated with depictions of their family trees and their armor and tapestries would depict the most famous of their ancient kin. Eventually, the most well known and revered of ancestors became worship almost as gods and their descendants names the kings, queens, and lords of the Island.

When the first men arrived on the shores of the isles, they were welcomed with open arms and quickly assimilated into the local elven culture. Some clans of men eventually established their own clans and noble houses and some even interbred with the elves. As the name would suggest, the islands were abundant with precious green stones, such as emeralds and jade and was a large part of the local culture, with most people having names relating to the color green, dressing in green, and even developing a common green eye color. They decorated themselves with jewels and stones and built their most magnificent shrines and temples out of the materials, turning the islands into a beautiful canvas of green.

These stones, however, were next to worthless in terms of trade, with most merchants only selling them for meager pocket change, relying on other goods for their main income. It wasn't until greater contact and trade with the mainland began that the materials they considered pretty decorations and spiritual trinkets were being bought by the pound for high prices and coin began flowing to the isles like a river. The increases in imported goods, such as exotic clothes, foodstuffs, and other resources caused an economic and cultural boom, with many of the villages being replaced by sprawling cities and the population of the island doubling withing the span of only a few years. This prosperity, however, did not last and eventually, the King, unsatisfied with the growing power of the Viridis family attempted to break their grip on the gem trades. This was not met well by the Virids house and civil war was sparked between the two factions. It wasn't until the imperial legion marched in and supported the Viridis faction that the bloody gridlock was broken and peace restored.

Many generations later, the Isles are still wealthy, but new sources of gems and stones from the east have begun to break their grip on the trade and with the growing ineptitude of the Viridis lords the people are become restless. Now, with the emperor dead and the empires hold guarantee of the Viridis family's authority over the islands compromised, many locals are beginning to openly question the policies and doctrines of their liege lords.

Capital City: Emerald City (Had it coming)

Population: Roughly 1,200,000

Race Composition: 65% Men, 30% Elves, 5% Dwarves

Status of the races other than men: With the men and elves of the islands sharing such close historical, cultural, and religious ties, all races are considered equals, though recent conflicts between the ruling family of men and the large native elven population have created an air of distrust amongst the demographics.

Majority Religion: The ancient practice of ancestor worship is still widely practiced by the majority of the population, including the ruling Viridis family, though most have mixed their local beliefs with that of the Faith of the mainlanders into a hybrid best of both worlds, with the Creatrix being the head goddess and the ancestors being her guardians and angels. More rural villages further inland still practice their pure worship and many people along the coastlines and on the eastern islands practice the mainstream mainland faiths.

Description of the people and culture: The people of the Viridian Isles are a rich and multicultural society. They, as mentioned before practice ancestor worship and view themselves and reincarnations of their forefathers. Most soldiers will decorate their armor with pictures of their bravest ancestors and nobles will have tapestries dedicated to their ancient family. Most see death as simply a step toward divinity and have many symbols and rituals that allude to the idea that death is generally a good thing if the person was good and honorable in life. Their affinity with the color green in founded upon the great abundance of precious green colored stones that are so commonly found across their lands. Originally just a pretty material used for rituals, building, and small trinkets and decorations, the rarity of it on the mainland led to an economic boom and the expansion of Viridian influence and military power across the isles, with the value of their stable goods only just recently decreasing in favor of other sources from the east.

Description of Economy: A former trade mogul, the Viridian Isles have various trade ports and embassies located all along the coast, discluding the Black March area, and many Viridian traders can be found in almost any market across the empire. The economy of the Isles, as of late, however, has been in a steady state of decline. The combination of civil strife, inept ruler ship, outdated economics and trade tactics and new sources of jade and gems being sold for lower prices has led to increased reliance on underhanded trade tactics, loans, and higher taxes. To put it simply, the economy is in the shitter.

This is happening too. How about a kingdom from the northwest comes riding bears and attacks or something!

Really? I'm more of a fan of human cavalry myself: http://cdn.meme.am/instances/51216780.jpg

NS Nation Name: Katyuscha (Call me Katy/Katty)

House Name: Viridis

House Banner:

Well, this is looking good. Wolfsland was not a very rich province, but at least like Wolfson your realm has the exact same politics so that doesn't bastardize the story much. Await OP's approval though. :)

I found a nice little theme tune for House Tellegara. How fitting do you think it is?

Thanks! I don't particularly enjoy playing extremely powerful characters/factions and my RP skills are decent and rusty at best, so I'd rather not try to give myself too much power. Also, while the island is rich is things like gems and other precious stones and metals, it doesn't have much else going for it and with more cheaper sources of their primary trade goods being discovered elsewhere, they're going through a time of major decline and political upheaval. Also, I made my character a bumbling idiot, because bumbling idiots are fun.

Yay! I've still got a few other things to add, other than military numbers, so I'll post those in a bit.
