I'd prefer we didn't comment on current events anymore, particularly ones like this. There's going to be a lot of tempers, and this is a very serious tragedy that shouldn't be taken lightly at all...

EDIT: Post has been removed, thank you.

No. It was to help detail the piss-poor relations between the Han settlers in Xinjiang and the Uyghurs.

No, but it was basically taking the events tonight in Paris and applying them to China. I said no to it because I didn't feel it was tasteful to post about it yet. :/

Which is why I feel guilty about mentioning that Andrew Jackson was never President of the Confederacy. I made sure of that because I fucking despise Andrew Jackson. By the time Jackson died in 1845, the CSA had had two presidents: Winfield Scott and John C. Calhoun. I don't know what Jackson does ATL, but he never becomes President.

MacLeod: "Japan Will Have A Fusion Reactor By 2020"

Image

TOKYO -- Former Chancellor John MacLeod made a public speech yesterday, appearing with Princess Ranko, Bernard Sanders and incumbent Chancellor, John Adams. MacLeod announced a government and private sector venture to "conquer the technology and sciences of fusion nuclear energy", and to "push forward in vanquishing Japanese reliance on oil production." The Empire has been a major consumer of fossil fuels since the mechanization of military in the 19th century. The Empire's lust for the "black gold" termed by many, pushed many of her 20th century political policies. MacLeod declared that "By 2020, Japan will have a functional fusion reactor, and it will power Japan, and we will do it because we can, and anybody who says we can't, is just weak."

Currently, Japan is a net importer of oil, despite vast reserves of oil in the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, namely Manchukuo, Korea, and the South China Sea. The majority of Japan's oil reserves come from our stalwart allies, the Rumite Empire, United Arab Republics, and Hashemite Arabia. The Rumite Empire and her dominions control the majority of the world's oil supply, but have largely transferred the power of price setting to international assemblies as so to avoid "grotesque price gouging in the event of bad situations."

Japan's government has been trying to lessen reliance on petroleum since the Indonesian War, which saw Japanese gas prices skyrocket due to the extreme dangers of traversing through the Malacca Strait, and the destruction of Mecca in April 1964. Since the defeat of Wahyu and the Indonesian State, Japanese gas prices have dropped down immensely, but never below 1964-levels. Currently, gas prices in Japan are at record lows, spurred on by the sudden increase in Canadian, Confederate and Venezuelan oil refining efforts. Recently, the Confederate Department of Energy, and several private American firms announced their plans to drill oil shale in the West; in joint venture with the Canadian government in their territories.

I didn't think Queens was part of Ojashi, just Brooklyn. Still, whatever works, Trump would be too extreme for most Canadians anyway.

BTW, I'll have the big moment after the holidays, I've got a lot going on right now, and since this'll likely be Meiji's last appearance in this series, I think Uni and I will do a co-op post for it.

Executive/Imperial:
The Executive Branch of the Japanese Government is headed by the Emperor/Empress of Japan. They are the absolute ruler of Japan, and have undefined and unlimited powers of action. The way the Japanese monarchy functionally works, disgraceful, dishonourable, or otherwise "poor behavior" is not tolerated, and there is a very impetus for a Japanese monarch to serve his/her people well -- if only to avoid dishonoring his/her ancestors. Typically, if a Japanese monarch fails to do their duties, or is incompetent, they would be expected to commit seppuku to redeem the Empire.

The Imperial Household controls significant amounts of independent agencies outside government purvey, primarily dealing with some of Japan's underground and otherwise "illegal" syndicates. The Yakuza, one of the most feared crime syndicates in Japan, functions as a major intelligence arm of the Imperial Household, and is often well-liked in communities due to the amount of assistance they provide to people across Japan. The Yakuza's behaviour code has been revised under the leadership of the Oyabun Kasumi Yamato, and does not tolerate violence unless absolutely justified. Empress Meiji and Emperor Alexander are their "spiritual patrons", called Okāsan and Tetsujin, "Mother" and "Philosopher" respectively.

The Imperial Household also controls the Imperial Blossoms, a syndicated union of geishas and other sex workers that effectively serve the government as assassins and spies. This Geisha organization was formed during the reign of Empress Elizabeth, and she entrusted these women with raising her daughter. As a result, the Empress Masako became a fearsome intriguer, leading to her strong military credentials, and her capture of Wahyu after infilitrating his evacuated compound. The Empress Masako, as their finest turn-out from training, is their spiritual patron, often called Sakura, which was her code name during her time in their service.

The Hong Kong Triads and "The Family" are two large syndicates that are also under the control of the Imperial Household. The Triads were once an unruly group of feuding, militant gangs during the 20th century, but after an intervention by the Yakuza, they now serve for Hong Kong the same purposes as the Yakuza; which has brought benefit to all of the citizens in the city. "The Family" was formed in the 19th century by an Italian veteran of the Great War, and his Japanese wife, also a veteran. The two formed a wide crime ring in the city of Ojashi, and were a major factor in smuggling operations in the Western Hemisphere. They later took an oath of fealty to the Imperial Household in the 1980s.

It's almost kind of a shame that we've skipped past most of the big Gilded Age strikes. Given that there were some sympathy strikes on California's rail lines, the Pullman Strike would have possibly become an international incident.

Yeah, but it couldn't be helped. There's still the muckrakers in North America and a few big strikes as well.
