And I've given the von Lichts faces to go with the names! Still need to find a face for Hayim ben Tziyon, though.

The Book of Mormon is a Confederate religious satire musical with book, lyrics, and music by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone. Best known for creating the animated comedy show South Park, Parker and Stone co-created the music with Lopez, a co-composer and co-lyricist of Avenue Q. The Book of Mormon tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries sent to a remote village in the Congo, where a brutal warlord is threatening the local population. Naïve and optimistic, the two missionaries try to share the Book of Mormon, one of Mormonism's scriptures(which only one of them has read) but have trouble connecting with the locals, who are more worried about war, famine, poverty, and AIDS than about religion.

Development on the musical began in 2003, with the trio meeting sporadically to work on the musical for several years. Parker and Stone grew up in Utah, and references to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had been commonplace in their previous works. For research, the trio took trips to Nauvoo and Salt Lake City to meet with current and former Mormon missionaries. Developmental workshops were staged beginning in 2008. The show's producer, Scott Rudin, opted to open the show in Chicago, in the largely-Mormon northern CSA. The LDS Church responded in a measured but calm fashion, and later purchased advertising space in its playbills in later runs.

Notes:

There seem to be two nicknames that the scientists have for this project; they call themselves the Uranium Club and the project is known as Project Wagner. There's a certain logic to them both, no doubt. It's truly a pleasure to have some of our finest minds here, I can tell you that. The government is hoping that nuclear weapons might finally force the Czechoslovak and Galician rebels to surrender, but I'm not confident. People don't give up that easy. The scientists have other hypotheses; Oppenheimer, Einstein, and Szilard are all confident that the CSA, Russia, and Japan also have nuclear programs. The Kaiser has ordered an investigation, try and infiltrate the programs, but even if we find nothing, the project will go ahead. Germany and Hungary are nations of science and progress, and the Empire and Kingdom have scientific minds of unparalleled quality. I have no doubt that this project will be a massive success.
- Albert Speer, Sept. 1939

This is the strangest group of scientists and officials I've seen. There's the overseers- the Luftwaffe officer Göring, the military technology minister Speer, and the Hungarian noble Horthy. Then there's the scientists. I've known Einstein for quite some time, and I also know Teller and Wigner- my fellow Hungarians- but other than that, I'm not very familiar with these people. There's Hahn and Strassman, who are already famous in the field, and greatly respected by all of us. There's the one scientist they've brought in to look at delivery, Freiherr von something-or-other. There's even a woman among our ranks: Lise Meitner. We're also working, to a very limited extent, with various other scientists outside the program- Abraham Esau, Erich Schumann, Max Planck, Klaus Clusius, Paul Harteck, and Werner Heisenberg among them- so long as we don't divulge anything. Shouldn't be too hard, since we're all in the field anyways, doing research on our own. This is going to be a very interesting project.
Most of our research facilities are in Mecklenburg, as far as I can tell, with a smattering of others in Brandenburg and Pomerania. There's also some testing facilities in Hungary, in Transdanubia. Horthy tells me they contemplated putting them in Transylvania, further from the Czechoslovaks, but that put them at risk from the Romanians, who've never given up on claiming Transylvania, Banat, Bucovina, Maramures, Crisana, and what have you. The tests, I'm told, will be in German Oceania, on some of the uninhibited islands and atolls. Seems a little Byzantine to me, but I've got to trust in the people running the show. I'm just here to make the bomb. The Emperor and King want something between 1945 and 1950. Seems reasonable.
- Leo Szilard, Oct. 1939

If I may be so frank, I honestly worry about what splitting the atom may mean for the world. Human propensity for war is legendary, and if the Second Great War is fought with nuclear arsenals, then the third will be fought with sticks and stones. The power of the atom is better used as a source of power than as a weapon. Nonetheless, I continue my work here, in the hopes that we can translate it into peaceful and beneficial applications once this is over.
- Albert Einstein, Dec. 1941

We have news from Rostock. The A-4 rockets are being finished as we speak, and we'll be testing them by year's end- with conventional loads, of course, since we don't have the bomb yet. I've been planning those since 1942, and my dreams are finally becoming a reality. Rocketry is so incredible, there are so many opportunities- not just for warfare, of course. Rocketry is the gateway to the Heavens, the way we make science fiction a reality. Imagine- human beings on the moon, sent there by rocket! It's thrilling, to have come so far.
I just wish that the nuclear scientists could hurry up. They're estimating 1947 at the earliest. And we're still not sure who else is trying to make their own bomb, which is worrying. I'd expect more from the Imperial Intelligence Service, but then again, the IIS's most famous member in recent history is a goddamn painter, so...
- Wernher von Braun, July 1944

Göring, Speer, and I are still reeling from the news out of Canada. We were beaten to it, and by the Canadians of all people. The Germans and Magyars, beaten by a land of ice and snow that would be Confederate if not for an earthquake in California? They obviously had help, likely Britain or Japan, maybe both.
This cannot be allowed to stand; we cannot fall behind. The scientists, thankfully, know that we are now playing catchup, and have pushed the date for our test from 1947 to 1946.
Von Braun is furious at this point. He's had his rockets for years now, but is stuck doing conventional testing. Speer seems convinced he might defect to the Canadians, though Göring and I have dismissed the concept as ridiculous. The only way von Braun would abandon us is if he was kidnapped. He seems placated by the deadline change, too.
Once everything comes together, the result will be a fantastic show of power.
- Miklós Horthy, March 1945

At long last, the testing should begin- next month. Everything is coming together, at last.
- Wernher von Braun, April 1946

We had the first test today, at Bikini Atoll, where we boarded a navy boat to watch the test. It was worth it though; it worked! All that effort, transformed into pure destructive power. The test range had several boats and structures, to see how it worked- they were destroyed, totally and utterly. The sky lit up in the most impressive way...
We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty as a Kshatriya and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
Seeing all that destructive power, though, was unnerving. If atomic bombs are to be added as new weapons to the arsenals of a warring world, or to the arsenals of the nations preparing for war, then the time will come when mankind will curse the names of our projects, tests, and bombs. It is these new nuclear weapons that pose the greatest threat to our survival. The people of this world must unite or they will perish.
- J. Robert Oppenheimer, May 1946

The Danes are furious that we didn't tell them. Kristoffer IV apparently came to Kaiser Franz Ferdinand, raging at him for the course of several hours. As if Denmark was in a position to criticize the actions of her superiors. The scientific prowess of the German people shall be put into technological progress, now and forever. We will not be stopped by any one or thing. Germany over all!
- H. Göring, May 1946

In the atom, there is nothing more than power. Power can be used for good, or it can be used for evil. I am confident that the secrets we have unlocked and will unlock hold massive potential not only for Germany and Hungary, but also the world- and that we have an incumbent duty to make sure the atom is used for good.
- Lise Meitner, March 1948

Horthy is furious at Göring; the next test is supposed to be Hungary's, and yet he's basically run the thing for them. Meitner, von Braun, and I have our own complaint: Fricka is queen of the gods, not a valkyrie. So what that it's a hydrogen bomb? This is the Valkyrie Project, and every other bomb has been a valkyrie. You can't just ditch a theme like that!
That's not the only concern, though... we all have second thoughts. We're not the only ones with bombs. Canada, of course, best us, but after we announced Brünnhilde... Japan has detonated a bomb, as has Britain, using Canadian technology no doubt. The Confederates have the sun bomb, and have given its secrets to the Québécois(Seriously, America? You really think Quebec needs nuclear arms?) Russia has also started testing bombs in Siberia and the Arctic. The IIS believes that Rum, France, China, the Soviets, maybe even the goddamned Czechoslovaks- they're all trying to make the bomb. We have started an uncontrollable proliferation of weaponry that is lethal to an extent that I'm not sure world leaders really comprehend. And as if airplanes didn't provide enough range, the entire world is now looking at von Braun's rocketry. Everything we've made has a peaceful purpose, but it seems doubtful that humanity will survive long enough to pursue those peaceable uses, with how reckless and belligerent we are. Here's hoping that, in the realm of geopolitics, our common sense prevails. If it does, I dare say it'll be the first time in history that's happened.
- Otto Hahn, Aug. 1951

The sun bomb becomes more common with every year. The opportunities of peace fade as we look more into those pertaining to war. The areas where the tests were held are lifeless and irradiated. Georg von Licht wrote to warn us of what not to do, but we've all forgotten. They say that, after reading the Righteous Cause, the Empress Akiko Meiji asked her scientists if they could make it a reality. The Queen of Fools, now joined by kings and presidents from across the globe.
My God, what have we done?
- Albert Speer, Nov. 1951

Well, all of those people I left in their original parties except for Strom Thurmond, who was a Democrat at the time you have him as POTCS. The only "party inversion" I have is after Nixon.

"Anthems" of Japan
Official anthems are Furusato and Kimigayo

Kimigayo
Thousands of years of happy reign be thine;
Rule on, my lord, until what are pebbles now
By ages united to mighty rocks shall grow
Whose venerable sides the moss doth line.

Umi Yukaba
Written in the 1770s by Japanese soldiers fighting in the Korean Rebellion

Traditional (1776):
Umi yukaba
Mizuku kabane
Yama yukaba
Kusa musu kabane
Okimi no he ni koso shiname
Kaerimi wa seji

English (1891):
If I go away to the sea,
I shall be a corpse washed up.
If I go away to the mountain,
I shall be a corpse in the grass
But if I die for the Emperor,
It will not be a regret.

Furusato
Japanese folk song written in the mid-18th century under the rule of Empress Meiji
Usagi oishi kano yama,
kobuna tsurishi kano kawa,
yume wa ima mo megurite,
wasure-gataki furusato.

Ikani imasu chichi-haha,
tsutsuganashi ya tomogaki,
ame ni kaze ni tsuketemo,
omoiizuru furusato.

Kokorozashi o hatashite,
itsunohinika kaeran,
yama wa aoki furusato,
mizu wa kiyoki furusato.

My country 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing!

Land where my fathers died,
Land of the noblest pride,
From every ocean side, let freedom ring!

My native country three,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love!

I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with Rapture thrills, like that above...

Let music swell the breeze,
and ring from all the trees,
Sweet freedom's song!

Let mortal tongues awake,
Let all that breathe partake,
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Strong and peaceful, wise and brave,
Fighting the fight for the whole world to see
We the People, will ceaselessly strive
To keep our great federation alive.
Unfurl the banners, look at the sun,
Never before has such glory been seen.

East Asia, East Asia, East Asia, 'tis for thee...

Note of reference, the Syngman Rhee depicted as Japanese Prime Minister from 1879 to 1892 is the one that lead South Korea, just moving his lifetime back a few decades. OTL He was born in the late 1880s, so... yeah. I just made him old. ^^

Jefferson Davis and Benito Mussolini also had their birth and death dates changed.

Anybody up for Geisha assassins? Because that's a thing in my Japan. If you want someone silenced, you pay the Geishas a significant fee and they'll "dispose" of the person. Meiji was their biggest client in the 1760s and 1770s, having several high-ranking lords and nobles assassinated for being rather uppity and dismissing her for her sex.

Alexander II will use geishas against Indonesia. Geishas are "sold" to Indonesia by the Yakuza, the Geisha then turn around and wait for the right moment before ohp, you're dead.

Of course, nobody ever knows who murders these people, but the Geishas are a very secretive group of women (and some men, if that's your kind of thing). They're bankrolled by the Yakuza, who is bankrolled by the Japanese Imperial Family. Though, Geishas only assassinate "gaijin" if they're paid by countrymen of the person's origin. So if, say, a Ukrainian businessman was targeted by a Ukrainian mafia or commisar, who didn't want to deal with the attention, he sends him on a "trip to Japan", he ends up running into a geisha who offers him a "good night", he goes to the hotel, strips, and then gets killed by her hidden blade, and his body is dumped in a place inconspicuous.

Prostitution is a legal means of making cash in Japan, and so geishas are government-regulated and funded by building brothels that are tightly controlled by the government (meaning no abusive behavior or else). The Yakuza give them training to be assassins. Meiji was proud of that one.

"Just banned"? Prohibition was added as an amendment in 1891, and has been in effect since 1892.

"Original idea". I'm pretty sure Al Capone and any mafioso from the Prohibition age beat you to the punch, mate. The Yakuza and Italian mafia are world-known criminal syndicates who would want to have a very strong influence in the proliferation of alcohol in a Prohibition era Confederacy. It's not original since it happened 90 years ago.

I think he was talking about having a force of attractive but deadly assassin women... though that's not exactly original either.
