You suddenly awake from your slumber and look around you. You first notice that you appear to be laid down on a sort of operating table, naked with a bright light shining in your face. The next thing you notice is that your arms and legs are strapped to the table. You wonder if this is a nightmare, a vivid one at that. That's when you see a figure block the light. The figure is dark for a second but within a few moments your eyes adjust and you see a man wearing a dirty, bloody apron and a torn and dirty surgical mask. He looked down at you with blood shot eyes held in place behind a wrinkly, grey face. His hair was greasy and messy. Then you hear his voice "Don't worry. It will all be over soon" He says to you in a reassuring voice. Yet at the same time, the croaky and hoarse tone of his voice sends shivers down your spine. There was something unnatural about this man. You close your eyes and count to 10 in your head to try and wake yourself up. It doesn't work. As the man reaches onto a tray beside him and picks up a large, rusty knife and teases the end of it, you feel your heart rate increasing rapidly as adrenaline is pumped into your blood stream.
The man slowly brings the knife down to your stomach and stops as he presses the point into your skin "I promise this won't hurt for long" The man thrusts the knife into your flesh. You feel the coldness of the knife in you and then, the tightening of your stomach muscles as you tense up. Before the pain starts, however, you black out. You then wake up in a dirty prison cell bed. You quickly look down at yourself to notice you are fully clothed once again. Looking at the back of your hand you appear to have a sort of symbol tattooed onto it. It glows a neon green for a second before fading into the inky black color it once was. You get up out of your bed and look around. The cell is dark and murky. The only window in the cell is covered in a thick layer of grime and cobwebs blocking out most of the sunlight. Looking out into the hallway at the cell across from you, you notice yet another person waking up. You look closer to notice they have the same tattoo on their hand too.
Whatever is going on here, it's not good at all. And you have to find a way out of this...
Welcome to
Hello and welcome to my new Horror RP that I decided to make in spirit of the upcoming Halloween Night. You will play as yourself. Yes, you, the player, as you explore the mysterious structure you have found yourself in that you only know as "The Ark" which is the only bit of information you know about this place. You will encounter puzzles, traps and horrific enemies ranging from malevolent spirits like Wraiths to Eldritch Abominations like the Reanimate to gargantuan horrors like the Shoggoth. In this RP, survival is your priority, there will be no one man armies and the chances of you being violently butchered or being disemboweled is very high.
Important Notes
Magic: All characters are capable of using magic. That's what that symbol on the back of your hand will allow you to do. It's not something you can use all the time either. Why? Because every time you use a spell, it takes you a step closer to going insane. Each spell costs Sanity with each spell having a different cost of Sanity so overuse of spells will result in your character going insane. There are ways to regain sanity however. You can regain lost Sanity by doing puzzles, absorbing it from dead enemies, absorbing it from Runes or using Plasmids. Magic can have a variety of effects and can help in both combat and puzzles. All characters will unlock the same spell at the same time and how they use it is up to them. You could fire off about 15 stun spells before you go insane to put into perspective how much magic you can use at a time.
Sanity: Sanity is the thing that keeps you from hearing voices in your head, tearing your own skin off and having violent outbursts and such. It's also the thing magic feeds off of to power it. Every spell you use will cost Sanity which is regained upon solving a puzzle, absorbing it from a dead enemy or dead character or absorbing it from runes scattered around The Ark. Characters can give Sanity to other characters too if they wish. If you lose your sanity, I may occasionally make a post that will only effect your character such as voices in your characters head or a hallucination or even having your character black out. You will also lose any ability to use magic until you get more Sanity. So it is in your best interests to remain Sane.
Runes: Runes are symbols that look exactly the same as the one on the back of your hand. They are scattered all around The Ark on walls, ceilings, floors and on items. They glow the same neon green as the symbol on your hand does when you use a spell or absorb Sanity until someone absorbs the Sanity from them.
Plasmids: Plasmids are small syringes of glowing red liquid that you will find, normally in first aid boxes or within infirmaries. Not only do they restore your Sanity but they also heal you, hydrate you and feed you. Plasmids are rare so it's wise that you don't use them all at once. To use, simply pop the safety cap off the needle, carefully push the needle into your flesh or vein and slowly inject the liquid.
Food, Water, Sleep, Hygiene and Medical: Like any other human being you will need to eat, drink, sleep and probably use medical equipment to deal with injuries or sickness. Not eating and drinking will make you physically weak, slow your reflexes and eventually kill you. Lack of sleep will also slow your reflexes. It will also make spells cost more sanity if you have gone a day without sleep and will slow your reflexes the second day. The following days without sleep will drain your sanity. It is also important to keep clean as well. Eating rotten or dirty food, drinking dirty water or getting covered in dirt or blood will increase your chances of getting sick or getting an infection and as such it is important you be careful what you eat and drink and try to clean blood and dirt off you when you can. Medical equipment is also useful for keeping wounds clean and keeping you held together ranging from simple bandages and pain killers to stitches, adrenaline and Antibiotics.
Puzzles: Puzzles are things that you will have to complete to progress. Usually they are something simple like figuring out the code to a vault or a door to more advanced puzzles like finding the parts to make a generator work so that a door will open. When you solve puzzles it restores your sanity as well.
Enemies: Almost every enemy you face will be a vile and highly aggressive Eldritch Horror or Abomination. As such it is probably going to be physically superior to you. On the other hand, you are more than likely going to be smarter and can easily out wit it through hit and run tactics and aiming for certain parts of it's body to trip it up, stun it etc. Most of them can be killed with a firm blow to the head assuming they have a head. Magic also works to combat these creatures either by using a stun spell on it, zapping it with a brain fryer spell or by setting it on fire with a fireball. Anything goes. Just be prepared to heal yourself after a confrontation with one, they will probably hurt you. When they die, you can absorb Sanity from them.
Health and Durability: Now, we've all been in RP's where characters can take bone crushing blows and still come out on top with little hindrance to their performance. In this one, a bone crushing blow will leave you with just that, shattered bones. I will take into account a humans adrenaline along with other chemicals released in situations that would require a fight or flight response that dull pain so being stabbed or shot will not incapacitate you immediately. But getting stabbed, shot, hit with a heavy blunt object etc would cause some serious damage and your character should act accordingly to getting hit by such damage.
Armor: There is no doubt that you will find articles of clothing to wear and some of these articles of clothing with offer some degree of protection. Now I don't want you to do a lolzy post of your character finding bomb disposal gear in a trunk in an orphanage section of The Arc because it simply wouldn't happen. Finding things like leather jackets, cargo trousers, bike helmets and welding masks would be more likely.
Weapons: Now down to weapons. Your body is the first and most obvious weapon with the magical abilities you were given being the next one. There are also things ranging from broken bottles, rusty pipes and kitchen knives to things like sledge hammers, fire axes and machetes. Power tools may be around as well as purpose built weapons like swords or crossbows. Now guns on the other hand, are going to be rare. Ammunition for guns will also be rare so if you are lucky enough to come across a firearm and ammunition, it's probably best to save it for only the most dire of situations as guns are a powerful asset.
Relics: Relics are strange looking items you will find about The Arc that upon touch, give you a new spell. They will also regenerate some of your lost sanity too along with heal you. These are extremely rare items that will only be put in by me or a co-op under my jurisdiction.
Crafting: Obviously if you're put in a survival situation, it's in your best interest to make things to help you out of whatever you can find. Remember, this is realistic (Save from the magic and the monsters and the other things) so don't expect to be able to make a crude shotgun out of spare parts. Making a bow, knife, backpack, crude armor or clothing shouldn't be hard if you have the things around you to do so.
1: Common sense rules. Such as no godmodding, meta gaming, over powered characters or finding really good gear in the most unlikely of places like finding a M76 LAW in a classroom.
2: You don't have to use your real name or even RP as yourself. But the reason I would like you to is because it would make for an interesting experience.
3: I expect a minimum of 3 sentences per post with decent spelling and grammar. It's not much to ask for.
4: No Mary Sues. There is no such thing as someone who is perfect.
5: Don't try and pull some "I'm not afraid and I'm so badass I'll take on one of those weird glowing green monsters with the arm that looks like a scythe with my bare hands!" type thing. Be honest, if you were shoved into this position, would you act like that? No, even the most experienced soldier would be shitting bricks in this situation and wouldn't even dream of taking an Eldritch Horror on like that.
6: Have fun...or else
