How to conduct a "Live" music competition in your region

Postby Tessen » Wed Jul 23, 2014 12:57 am

I thought some of you might be interested in learning more about an exciting new creative roleplay event that has been added to the American Union -- one of the top (perhaps even most active) roleplay-story regions in NationStates. We're conducting a "live" international music talent competition -- which goes well beyond just text roleplay, and includes videos (representing the "live" performances), unique character-contestants, player creativity and much more!

The format actually works very well in roleplay. Perhaps you might find it interesting enough to add to your own region as well. :)

Simply put, our unique international music competition is known as TESSEN STAR -- named after the nation hosting the event, (Tessen) -- and loosely based upon the real-life American ABC music competition, "Rising Star".

Each roleplay nation creates a fictional contestant to send to the competition, thereby representing their nation on TESSEN STAR. Through a serious of random dice rolls, an established ranking format, the unique personalities of the fictional music experts/hosts/judges, and the additional votes of all players who have watched each "live" performance (aka, secretly pre-selected YouTube videos, chosen by each competing nation before competition), the fate of each contestant is determined. Those that get enough votes via the system and roleplay, move on to the next round of competition.

Each round of competition features a new secret pre-selected YouTube video to represent that contestant's "live" performance. When that contestant performs in the competition, their video is released for everyone to watch. It is then "judged" and voted on according to the established format.

If you're interested in reading the full rules & format of this music competition, please check out the official TESSEN STAR dispatch:
TESSEN STAR dispatch page

It might also be worth noting that a major political flavor was added to our competition, adding even more story flavor....

One of the show's contestants -- from a nation occupied under the government of a foreign power -- actually stood up to that occupying government during the global broadcast, and sparked a civil war against them. It proved to be quite a sensational story! If you're checking out the competition format, you might want to take in this political event as well!

Feel free to take a look at how we are conducting this "live" music competition in our region. You are more than welcome to then adapt our system and format as your own region. Afterall, great story-telling really is best shared with others!

OOC: May we participate in Tessen Star if we aren't in the American Union region?

We would love to welcome new participants into the TESSEN STAR music competition. Unfortunately, at this time, our particular competition only represents the unique "world story" of our seven-region Earth roleplay environment.

You know, now that I think about it, we'll be doing another round of our roleplay music competition later tonight, if anyone wants to follow along and see how it's done. Four contestants will be performing "live" tonight at roughly 8pm (CST) on the The City of Milwaukee regional message board.

You're welcome to follow along, although only current Embassy-region nations are able to participate.
