May 3, 1892

General Kamakura, as a sign of good faith to the Emperor and his ilk, formally sent an Ainu prisoner, a 20 year old peasant woman, to Tokyo. General Kamakura's ambassador to the Imperial Court was a Dutch immigrant. Corporal Quinten Baas arrived at the court of the Emperor with the prisoner. The woman was petite, with long brown hair and a silent expression on her face. Corporal Baas announced, "From General Kamakura, Commander of the Imperial Japanese Army in Hokkaido, hereby presents to His Imperial Majesty, one Ainu concubine for his grandson, Prince George."

The young concubine attracted the attention of the court, which spread into murmuring -- concubinage had been a long abolished practice in the Japanese Empire, especially after the religious reforms during the 17th and 18th centuries under Meiji and her predecessors. However, Prince George spoke up, the 24 year old sitting in the throne room with his 23 year old Korean wife, Princess Yun. "I accept your gift with graciousness, and I thank General Kamakura."

Emperor Alexander, ever infirm, hazily looked around the room and spoke, "I wish to speak to my family in private... that includes you, Ainu."

The small cabinet and court departed the room, leaving the Emperor with his family. The Emperor cast a glance to George, "I will not permit this young girl to be violated by a member of the Imperial Family unless she gives permission and consent to become a concubine."

Prince George nodded, "My intent was more or less to shield her. While we are in a state where the Ainu are considered enemies of the state and that deplorable man, Kamakura, slaughters them in droves... we must protect this one... tell me, girl, what is your name?"

The Ainu woman, her hands bound, wearing baggy prisoner garb, looked at the Prince and stammered out, "My name is... Konkani."

Prince George nodded and said, walking over to her and kneeling next to her, "And what happened to your family?"

"General Kamakura ordered their deaths... My brother was a warrior for the King of Ainu, and... when he was captured, Kamakura came for our family... My father was killed, and my mother and I raped, and Kamakura decided that because I was so young and pretty in his eyes, that I would serve the Empire as a concubine better than a prisoner of war."

Prince George sighed and said, "I will take her as a concubine, not for the sake of lust, but because I feel this girl has been harmed significantly."

The Emperor raised his hand and said, "Kamakura is a fine general, but he has violated international law beyond the scope of which we have ever seen. I want someone dispatched to put him into his place. We must not destroy the Ainu race, we must have them accept that Japan is their natural overlord, and then... only then, can we end this hostile rebellion."

He frowned and said, blinking, "Princess Yue -- Last of the Korean Royals, whose ancestor drew the blade against the Empire in the days of Meiji; You are the wife of Prince George, and you may have a say in this. Will you accept this young Ainu woman as a concubine?"

Yue frowned and bit her lip before nodding, "So long as their children are not considered legitimate in the line of succession, yes, Your Majesty."

Alexander nodded, "Is this amendable to you, my grandson?"

George nodded, and Alexander said, "Good... now... Konkani of the Ainu, come here... George, untie her."

George reached down and used his small dagger to sever her binds, and Konkani approached the Emperor. The Emperor smiled, "You shall be an Imperial Concubine, and you shall in time, learn the customs of the court. I am sure my dear daughter, the Regent, can do teach you... but you must adopt a Japanese name, just as Princess Xiao did many years ago... are you okay with that?"

Konkani nodded and Alexander smiled, and said a name, "You shall be forever known as Princess Tamiko."

Tamiko nodded and bowed deeply, "Thank you, Your Imperial Majesty."

Alexander smiled quietly and said, "Elizabeth, come here."

Princess Elizabeth came to her father's side, and Alexander said, "Two of the loves of my life have gone... Adile and Augusta now walk in Meiji's land, only my dear Aunt, and the people in this room keep me here. The time has come for this war to end, and we must strive for that, can you do that?"

Elizabeth bowed deeply, "Yes, father."

Alexander smiled, before retiring to his chambers.

Susuya, Ainu-Mosir/Toyohara, Karafuto
The Ainu warriors under the leadership of King Menkakush have been fighting hard to maintain control of Susuya. The Ainu controlled the interior, and the first PM had been elected: a young Ainu man, Apniainu to serve as the Prime Minister for the Kingdom of Ainu-Mosir. He selected one of the defecting Japanese civilians to be a Minister, but the rest were Ainu, save for a couple Nivkhs.

Menkakush approved, and already, most of the representatives to the Diet of Ainu-Mosir have come to the Palace in Susuya, still divided on ethnic lines.

May 4

The Japanese government issued a final ultimatum. If the Ainu people surrendered their King to the Imperial Army, they would all be spared mass cleansing or deportation. General Kamakura had begrudgingly accepted the Emperor's demand to give the Ainu a final warning before the Final Campaign started against them. The Emperor said that "all of Asia can be brothers again," but that "rebellion would not be tolerated."

After months of failed fighting, Confederate morale in the Meijis finally collapsed with the Japanese ceasefire offer. The Confederates responded to the offer of ceasefire with an offer of surrender.

While the Okinawa campaign gained and halted again, the surrender of the Confederacy on the Meiji Islands was a rather serious shock. Japanese morale had remained moderately high due to patriotism to defend the Empire, especially territory such as the Meiji Islands, which had more Japanese people living on it than anywhere else -- even possibly Japan.

General William Yukimura accepted the Confederate surrender offer and stated that all Confederate soldiers participating in the Meiji Islands were free to leave if they so wished. The Japanese officers however warned that the seas of Asia were still hostile and that, "while we have concluded peace with each other here on these islands; the war rages around us. You may sail for home under the risk of being sunk, or you may remain behind for a time in good faith, and we shall see a new day dawn on the world."

The Meiji Islands campaign had come to an end, and with it, one of the bloodiest chapters of the Pacific War.A

After the surrender was issued, on the night of May 1st, funeral pyres turned the skies of the Meiji Islands orange as Japanese soldiers conducted final rites for their fallen brothers. As the bodies were turned to ash, and those ashes were spread to the Kingdom of Heaven, where Empress Meiji resided, the lyrics of Umi Yukaba were belted out in a funeral march. The singing could be heard across the front-lines in the Confederate camp as they too, conducted final rites for their dead.

If I go away to the sea,
I shall be a corpse washed up.
If I go away to the mountain,
I shall be a corpse in the grass
But if I die for the Emperor,
It will not be a regret.

In his ever fleeting moments of lucidity as he continued to experience health and mental decay from old age and infirmness, Emperor Alexander, upon being informed of the Meiji Islands victory, was said to have wept. "The Empire is saved... victory is at hand!"

The Confederate forces opt to stay on the Meijis until the conclusion of peace.

Russia

Gavriil fon Likht, now out of the gulag, flees the country. In spite of the war going on, he manages to convince a Russian sailor to take him through the Apaec Canal and to the Confederate port of New Orleans. There, he meets August Breckenridge, author of the Battlestar. While together, Breckenridge relates to fon Likht an idea that he has had, based on the events of the Ainu Rebellion in Japan, though a case of writers block has prevented him from writing it. In return, fon Likht tells Breckenridge the story of his time in a Siberian prison camp.

The two them decide to have a competition. They will use the basic idea given to them by the other, and make it into a serial series in competing newspapers, to see who can draw the most readers. Fon Likht selects the New Orleans Times-Picayune; Breckenridge selects the New Orleans Advocate.

Fon Likht's book- based off of Breckenridge's Ainu Rebellion idea- is entitled A Time of Destruction. The book focuses around the rebellion of an ethnic minority known as the Yeojeon(who more closely resemble Koreans than Ainu). The Yeojeon live in the northern regions of the Henkyoese Empire, an empire composed of various fictional island chains off of Asia. The Yeojeon used to have their own king, but for centuries they have been used as slaves, disenfranchised and abused even as the islands became more democratic. Henkyo's main rival is the Free States of Terranova, a collection of territories that broke away from one of Henkyo's allies about a century before the book begins.
The book starts in 1911, with a Yeojeon craftsman named Nongbu Jeonghwan learning of a major development from the FST. First, the FST has finally abolished slavery and granted women's suffrage, one of the last countries to do so. Henkyo, according to the newspapers in his hometown of Yeonggwang, is incredibly relieved that the FST has finally ended slavery, saying that "it is well past time that the Free States ended this barbaric practice". Nongbu looks around and realizes that, for all intents and purposes, his people are slaves to the Henkyoese Empire. However, he is afraid to do anything, and returns to his daily life.
In spite of the progress made by the FST, though, tensions between it and the Henkyoese Empire continue to rise. In mid-1911, a Terranovan named Samuel McKinnon publishes a book entitled The Path to Purity, in which he endorses the extermination of the Henkyoese. The FST, furious, bans the book and throws McKinnon in jail. Henkyo is even angrier; they become convinced that the FST actually agrees with McKinnon, and declare war by attacking several Terranovan ports.
When Henkyo attempts to institute conscription, several Yeojeon begin demonstrating in the streets of the major cities of what was once called Yeojeonia. Nongbu decides to join the demonstrators. Soon, the crowd gathered in front of the Henkyoese recruitment office. When Henkyoese soldiers start attacking them, the furious Yeojeon retaliate, killing the soldiers and sacking the building. Soon, Yeojeon across the region are taking up arms. When Henkyo sends a small invasion force to retake Yeojeonia, Nongbu distinguishes himself by leading the charge against the Henkyoese and surviving. The Henkyoese are quickly repelled, forced to divert their forces to the war on Terranova.
The Yeojeon revolutionaries then gather in the former Yeojeon capital of Paeseu. Nongbu, since he leads the revolutionaries from Yeonggwang, attends. There, they decide to create a democratic government, headed by an elected Chancellor. To his surprise, Nongbu is selected by the other revolutionaries to serve as their interim Chancellor, with most voting in favor. His main opponent is the leader of the revolutionaries from Paeseu, Jyeonleong Dongmaeng. Even though the position is elected, Nongbu decides to carry on the tradition of Yeojeon rulers adopting regal names: he takes the name Eumseong, meaning "voice"(because he serves as the voice of the Yeojeon), but never really uses it, and remains commonly known as Nongbu. They destroy the remnants of Henkyo's attempts to destroy their culture and replace it with Henkyoese culture, and forms an independent government called the United Republic. Nongbu creates an elected People's Assembly to make laws, orders a court system formed, and also creates the appointed position of Deputy Chancellor, whose job is to help the Chancellor supervise the ministries and enforce law. To unite the revolutionaries, Nongbu selects Jyeonleong to be Deputy Chancellor. Jyeonleong is hesitant to work with Nongbu, but accepts the position anyways.
Eumseong sends an offer of peace to Henkyo, seeking to end the conflict quickly. Henkyo, however, is determined to retake Yeojeon by any means necessary; they accuse the Yeojeon revolutionaries of imperiling their ability to defeat the FST, which they maintain seeks to exterminate all Henkyoese people through brutal means. The Emperor of Henkyo, Go-Yowai, orders his best(and cruelest general), Satsujin Hijoshikina, to quell the rebellion.
Satsujin accumulates a massive army and assaults the southern islands of Yeojeon, overpowering local revolutionary brigades. His army is ruthless and merciless; they sack villages, taking all the valuables and then burning the rest to the ground. He and his army adopt a policy on what to do with captured Yeojeon: the men are imprisoned in labor camps, forced to work until they die; the women are forced into servitude, becoming servants and sex slaves; children are simply shot in front of their parents. The Henkyoese army- in the towns and villages that they do not destroy- place propaganda accusing the United Republic of seeking to see all Henkyoese people exterminated.
As the fighting continues to grow worse of Yeojeon, Nongbu and Jyeonleong argue over what to do. Nongbu continues to believe that he can convince Go-Yowai and the Henkyoese to let them go peacefully. Jyeonleong, however, believes that the Henkyoese can only be driven off if they are humiliated in battle. The two eventually become so opposed that they cease talking to, or even seeing, the other. They both try to keep this hidden, though, in the interest of holding the revolutionaries in the United Republic together.
Eventually, though, the Yeojeon army has been pushed back all the way to Paeseu. Nongbu, still confident that peace will triumph, sends an offer of parley to Satsujin. At the gates of the city- to Nongbu's shock- Satsujin shows up, surrounded by bodyguards and leading an abducted Yeojeon sex slave on a metal chain. The two hold a conference in Nongbu's office; Nongbu notices, as they enter, that Satsujin has nearly three times as many guards as he does. Nongbu, in spite of it all, offers Satsujin the same thing he offered Go-Yowai: a peaceful release of Yeojeon and cordial relations between the two. Satsujin, however, laughs at him, and gives Nongbu a choice. If the Yeojeon surrender now, then they will be allowed to live as slaves. If not, then Satsujin has orders from the Emperor to exterminate them all. When Nongbu continues to insist that am independent Yeojeon would be best for both, Satsujin has his bodyguards kill Nongbu's bodyguards and seal off the doors. Satsujin kills first his sex slave and then Nongbu. They then flee the city, killing the soldiers who try to stop them.
Within minutes, word reaches the People's Assembly and Jyeonleong. Jyeonleong, for all the fighting, is furious over Nongbu's murder, swearing revenge and becoming the main character. He leads an all-out Yeojeon assault on the Henkyoese Army, and personally strangles Satsujin with a thick iron chain used by Satsujin to shackle Yeojeon slaves. As he suffocates, Satsujin tells Jyeonleong that a Yeojeon victory will allow the slavers and murders to win- referring obviously to the FST. Jyeonleong, however, says that it is not the Terranovans but the Henkyoese who are the slavers- and the Henkyoese downfall begins today.
With its army humiliated and Satsujin dead, Go-Yowai sends an offer of surrender to Yeojeon, recognizing them as a sovereign nation and paying massive reparations. Henkyo also surrenders to Terranova shortly thereafter. In its first election for Chancellor, Jyeonleong is elected to the position, adopting the regnal name Jeongui- justice, referring to his revenge against Satsujin for his actions. Jeongui begins referring to Nongbu by his regnal name, Eumseong, and orders that a memorial to Yeojeon's fallen heroes be built in Paeseu's central square.

Breckenridge's book- based off of fon Likht's time in a Siberian prison camp- is entitled A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov. It's main character is Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, a Russian industrial worker falsely accused of attempting to incite revolution against the Tsar. For this 'crime', he is forced to spend ten years in the Tvardovsky Labor Camp, outside the town of Norilsk in northern Siberia. Shukhov is a member of the 104th work gang, and is identified as prisoner number 854 by the guards. The other members of the 104th include: Alyoshka Leshenkov, imprisoned for proselytizing Baptism; Oleksandr Golpchik, a boy accused of aiding the Ukrainian army; Andrey Tyurin, the foreman of the gang and a prisoner for 19 years; Sergei Fetyukov, a prisoner for over 27 years who has given up all hope of escape; Tzesar Markovich, an artist who is allowed to work in the camp offices; Nikolai Buynovsky, a former Russian naval captain accused of being a spy; Pavlo Yushenko, Tyurin's second-in-command; Rafaelis Kilgas, a Lithuanian separatist; and Nikita Klevshin, a former soldier accused of planning to defect. The book mainly focuses around the incredibly harsh punishments that they are subject to, the prevalence of 'survival of the fittest' among the inmates, and how the 104th manages to stay alive in spite of the bleak conditions. After following their hardships for months, the book ends with the conclusion that it was only the 104th's unity and solidarity that kept them alive. The fates of the characters remains unknown.

A Time of Destruction, much like Battlestar, is never printed in Japan until the later half of the 20th century, as it fails to get past the censor boards. Emperor Alexander is incensed by the book, and angrily blames General Kamakura for "stirring the beehive", and threatens that unless he brings an end to the conflict with as little blood-letting as possible, he will ensure his exile to Ethiopia for a century, along with his entire clan. Kamakura is slighted by this inference, and remembers that his family has been a perpetual thorn in Japan's side for centuries, from the times when they were obstructionist politicians, to dishonorable generals... Kamakura crumples up the telegram, and orders the Ainu King to be taken down, but he threatens death to any soldier who kills innocents on purpose.

In other countries, the book sells relatively well, though most people see through the guise. Many critics in newspapers are very critical of the book as "cultural propaganda". A Dutch newspaper editor wrote an editorial about Battlestar, A Time of Destruction, Freedom in the Stars and other books such as these, which are filled to the brim with thinly veiled references of national supremacy "...Another steaming pile delivered to us by the cultural front of the Great War waged between Japan and the Confederacy; Which now seems to have spread into the minds of other nations. Literary culture is going to continue to decay so long as this war continues -- with Japanese and Confederate authors slamming each other's countries in either blatant racist rhetoric, or "fictional" stories of nations that resemble their enemy. Though I must say how disappointing it is to see such cultural propaganda delivered to us by a von Licht, of all people, who doesn't even seem to have a stake in the cultural war. One must ask why Gavril fon Likht wrote this steaming pile of horse excrement. Perhaps he was paid by someone."

In Central America, the book sells relatively well, as it does in Tawantinsuyu. The book falls flat in Rum.

Otherwise, A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov is well recieved in many countries, including Japan, despite being published by a Confederate, since it passes Japan's censor board after extreme scrutiny.

Back in Japan, many members of the Imperial Family could hear Alexander cursing the von Licht family, "Two generations of those literary hellspawn have made it their life's mission to degrade me and my country... Damn them all!"

Susuya
Menkakush surrenders himself, and hands himself over to the Japanese authorities, declaring that "it is not in the best interest for either side to spill blood for a cause that would result in more repression." A small majority of the warriors lay down their arms.

However, Prime Minister Apniainu heard of the surrender, and being incensed, Apniainu declares Menkakush a traitor, and he declares himself President of the Republic of Ainu-Mosir. Because Susuya was at the verge of falling, he moves the capital to Otchishi (OTL Alesxandrovsk-Sakhalinsky), and about a few thousand soldiers go with him. Half of the cabinet surrendered to the Japanese, but the rest, all Ainu and Nivkh left for Otchishi.

Elsewhere
All the books sell well in China, and Guyane. In Crimea, it was banned for defaming an allied state (Japan) and a modified version was released, replacing the Yeojeon with Azeris and the Henkyonese with Georgians (since they were a foe of Crimea), called the same title: A Time of Destruction (Imha bir zaman, هئاش ذهق ظشئشد). In Portugal, it has some popularity, but not a lot.

With the Ainu leaders surrendering to Japan, Menkakush was placed under arrest and transferred to a prison in Niigata to be placed under duress. In the interim, the Ainu cabinet was exonerated of crimes against the state, and were allowed to return to their homeland upon conclusion of the remnant rebellion.

General Kamakura states that the Ainu's rights will be respected, but any in rebellion against Japan will die or be exiled, and orders a full-scale attack on all Ainu strongholds within the army's reach.

Brasilia, Brazil

The Emperador, who had been shot by Bridgette Botello, the 15 year old friend of the Emperador's daughter; Sofia, who had immediately died after being fatally shot in the head by Bridgette, died hours later in a Brasilia Hospital from slower but constant blood loss. Doctors had tried their best to try and stop the bleeding using pressure, but the blood had just continued to spill, and the bullet had pierced his internal organs.
Bridgette, meanwhile, had been dragged to a Prison in Brasilia, and locked away until the next suitable man in command in Brasilia; French Fascist Alvon Durant who had been appointed as the basic secondary man to the Emperador, could decide what to do with her. With the death of the Emperador's daughter before he himself even died, he had had no legitimate heir as he bled out in the hospital. As a result, Alvon Durant assumed command of both the Imperial Government, and the Junta, as well as the Fascist Assembly. He was able to control all aspects of the new government. He was planning on taking on Tawantisuyu whether or not his armies of both French Commanders and Brazilian soldiers as well as Brazilian Commanders could take them on. However, he would be spared the chance. Albert Dejaro, and his Brazilian Republican Army had retreated slightly North of Rio. They had since, gone Northwest, and marched 23,000 soldiers into Brasilia. The Fascists outnumbered them heavily, with the Armies, National Guard Platoons, Imperial Guard Regiments, Cavalry, and new Fascist Legions numbering around 45,000 just in the city.
However, the BRA had a hidden surprise; they had stolen several Aeroships (Zeppelins) from an airbase in Bahia which was originally loyal to the Emperador. The BRA also had reinforcements from Montes Claros to the East. Goiania, to the South of Brasilia, also had Army units rebel and slaughter mass Imperial Units in the city, and some headed Northbound for Brasilia.
Durant, wishing to establish his "Brazilian Fascist Dictatorate" decided to retreat to Recife, Belem, and Fortaleza, and secure ground in the Northeast as his own. He would use the combined estimated population of all Fascist, Imperial, and Junta Army Units of around 230,000 to him to protect the borders of this new "Dictatorate".
They were able to rescue Bridgette before she was executed by last-ditch prison guards. The members of the Junta who had stayed with the Emperador, and now Durant largely escaped, although high-prized target General Tordo de Plaza, who was known for various chemical bombings of targets in the week or so of the Civil War, was captured. However, he committed suicide while in transit to the command post in Southern Brasilia by bailing out of the horse and buggy, and drinking Hydrogen Peroxide stashed in his underwear. As a result, they could get nothing from him as to Durant's plans. He moved the 45,000 man army quickly out of harms way in Brasilia, running into the jungles North of Brasilia and into the rain forest. He planned for them to come out near Recife, and secure a border there.
Meanwhile, General Dejaro secured the Imperial Palace, the Junta Governing Building, and several other facilities, transferred various captured guardsmen and Imperial Royals refusing to leave to prisons, and established a Federative Republic with him as head of the hopefully short interim government. He sent a message to Tawantisuyu and the CSA.

To: Tawantisuyu
Cc: Confederate States of America
From: Albert Dejaro
Dear esteemed leaders,
While I realize no support was sent to aide either side in the short civil war which has lasted about two weeks from either of your countries, the Republicans wishing for Democracy. We were able to establish an interim government in Brasilia, and the capital has become the new spectacle of Democracy in Brazil. However, the Fascists, who have now combined the Imperials, Junta, and Fascists into one government and military body, have retreated North into the Amazon, but we will not pursue for the time being. We have established and secured all military bases, and cities in the South, and all installations and settlements of any population South of Brasilia in Brazil are secured and Democratic.
We wish to assure both states that danger on Tawantisuyu's borders at least has ceased. However, a continued Aeroship strike on Fascists where we can find them in the Amazon will be established, and when we realize where they are headed, we will attempt to cut the head off the dragon so-to-speak.
However, we were wondering if the membership of the OAS for Brazil is still going to be considered of the Imperial Dictatorship of the Emperador and now Fascist State of Brazil, or will be remade to only allow the interim government for Southern Brazil to be considered the legitimate successor and only member of Brazil to the OAS.
Thank You,
Albert Dejaro, Interim Leader for the Federative Republic of Brazil

Ukraine-Romania

Both A Time of Destruction, and A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov sell fairly well. The latter of the two incites Anti-Russian demonstrations in Horlivka, Kiev, and Poltava.

Venezuela

Both novels sell well in Venezuela, giving Gavriil fon Likht and Breckenridge a considerable fan base in the country.

Roma Italia

Both novels are promptly banned in the empire for the negative depictions of its allies Japan and Russia. Despite the ban, however smuggled versions of the books are well received in the empire.

General William Yukimura dispatched an emissary to the Confederate soldiers congregating across the former front-line. He invited them to dine with the Japanese soldiers in their camp, and stated that, "No veteran of this war should have to go hungry, we have earned our fill of food." In good faith, he sent a box of rations over to the Confederates.

The Confederates- running short on rations as the Confederate navy was pushed back- accepted the offer.

General Yukimura dispatched a small caravan of rations to the Confederate camp and opened his camp to Confederates, so long as they left their weapons in their camp.

Under Maritza's direction, the High Assembly of Tawantinsuyu discussed the intervention proposal made by the OAS. After some labouring, Tawantinsuyu formally approved the resolution and voted Yes for intervention, believing it nigh time to restore order to Brazil.

With Tawantisuyu's vote yes, OAS intervention became inevitable. Even if Venezuela and the URCA voted against the proposal, it would be 4 in favor to 2 against with 2 abstaining.

As a result, the OAS formally decreed that it's members would recommend the government of Dejaro and the Republicans, and would aid them against the fascists through all possible means.

In the interim days between the surrender of the Confederate Army in the Meiji Islands, and the departure of the Confederate Army from Japanese soil upon conclusion of peace, the Japanese and Confederates would play crude games of baseball together. At the conclusion of the Confederate withdrawal, seventy six days after the Confederate surrender on the Meiji Islands, The Confederates had won 61 games to the Japanese soldiers' 15. At the shore, General Yukimura presented the Confederate commander with a special gift. He explained that it had been fashioned in celebration of these games they had played. Printed on the cup was a Japanese imperial Chrysanthemum, with the same phrase written in English and Japanese.

"In celebration of Confederate-Japanese fraternity and peace."

The Meiji Cup, a world celebrated Pan-Asian baseball tournament, was born that day in 1892. Starting in 1912, on the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the war, the Second Meiji Cup would begin.

San Diego was a beautiful city. That was the thought that crossed Air Commander James Wilson as the Japanese zeppelin fleet approached the city. They had departed Alaska for warmer climate, to launch Operation: Hachiman. Wilson, a pious Christian, muttered a prayer to God before authorizing the fleet to begin bombing San Diego and Tijuana, believing it now needed to end the war forever.

"May God be with us in this mission." He concluded as the zeppelin began to unload it's arsenal on the Confederate-Mexican city.

Recife, Brazil

Alvont Durant had realized quickly that the OAS and Dejaro would be after him. As such, he gathered enough civilian support in Recife promising a Nationalistic, Fascist, but also somewhat of a similar Imperial Government as before. Basically, Durant wanted to combine the Fascist ideals of his Fascist French Republic with the ideals of Roman Italy, as well as some policies of the late Emperador Sanintino. People here in Recife, generally unaware of of the new Republican ideals of the South, and also the capital of the Junta during the Emperador's Imperial government, were very supportive of this proposal. As well as this, Fortaleza, and Belem had city and surrounding countryside-wide searches finding the rebels in these cities and either driving them out or killing them in mass numbers. The insurgents were labeled terrorists by Durant and told the people they needed to be "Taken care of" in order to preserve the balance and order of the new great Fascist Dictatorate that could become of Northeastern Brazil. As such, the people became pro-Fascist in large swaths, as well in surroundign cities. Durant knew that without civilians in harms way and those who supported the new ideology in the thousands and millions could not be bombed and attacked by the OAS. The Republican Brazilians could attack as much as they want but he sent a clear message to the CSA.

Dear esteemed leaders,
I hope you realize large civilian populations in the thousands and millions of Northeastern Brazil where the legitmate government of the land has been driven to, support our new ideology. As such, should you choose to intervene with your "OAS" it will be seen as breaking codes of war that involve the sparing of innocent lives of civilians and attacking non-military infrastructure and property. Should you still choose to wage a war with us after reading upon this message, we will show no mercy in rising great Fascist pride in the Northeast, and creating an unstoppable state bent on crushing the Western Sphere and Democracy. I will not send a message again. I make my point clear: Don't attack us, or face the consequences of your actions in return.
Sincerely,
Alvon Durant

While the attack on San Diego was under way by the Japanese Empire, Tawantinsuyu was unamused by the Brazilian threat. Maritza refused the letter and ordered the border build up to be furthered. She penned a letter to the President of the CSA, informing him that Tawantinsuyu was prepared to go to war against Brazil at any time.

the United Republics of Central America formally voted yes on the resolution to invade Brazil to support the Republican faction. The leadership of the Central American state called for a need to expel authoritarianism across the North and South American continents, and that "only through war may we achieve peace."

President Marcos Rankel and the Venezuelan senate voted unanimously in favor of the OAS resolution. A short telegram was sent to the CSA to inform them of Venezuela's decision.

The Confederacy and the OAS dismiss Durant's threats, and the CSA would continue their plans to invade northern Brazil to aid Dejaro.

Japantown District
San Francisco, California, Confederacy

A little more than an hour earlier, 10:50 AM

Woodrow Nakamura was one of the inhabitants of San Francisco's prestigious Japantown. The West Coast cities of the CSA were home to many immigrants not only from Japan, but also from China, Indochina, and Korea. San Francisco's Japantown was across the Bay from Oakland's Chinatown; San Jose, to the south, also had an Asiatown.

Nakamura worked at a Confederate telegram station, relaying low-security messages between the local governments and garrisons of California. The telegraph station was located in the heart of Japantown, where the narrow streets had as many signs in Japanese as they did in English and Spanish. At present, though, the streets were returning to a sense of normalcy: San Francisco had been struck by the seismic waves of an earthquake to the north at about 10:45. Nakamura sat at his desk, attempting to send telegraphs to the towns of Napa, Eureka, and Yreka, to no avail.

"Still no success?" asked Nakamura's colleague, Michael Tang. Nakamura shook his head. "No, we've lost Napa for sure. We haven't had anything from the far north since 10:30, which is especially worrying. Are the lines to Sacramento still functioning?" San Francisco's telegraph station was functioning in close contact with the station in Sacramento, the capital of California. Tang nodded to Nakamura. "Sacramento says they've heard rumors of a quake in Eureka, but no confirmation. But they felt the shockwaves of whatever hit Napa, same as us. They've sent word out to the east, to inform Washington, but Heaven knows when we'll get a response from them." Nakamura sighed. Earthquakes had happened in California, but anything powerful as the quake in Napa was larger than anything he'd ever experienced. He'd seen how minor quakes had caused havoc; he feared for the people of the Napa Valley.

Nakamura, as it turned out, should have been more afraid for himself.

He stood up, and told Tang he was going to get fresh air. Tang nodded, and decided to join him. The two stood in the streets of Japantown. They faintly heard the bells of the Catholic cathedrals and Spanish missions begin to solemnly toll, eleven times each, marking the new hour. Nakamura reached into his pocket and pulled out a tin of mints. He put one into his mouth, and-

Suddenly, he felt the ground move beneath him. Not merely vibrate; not shake; but truly move, as though some great force had pushed San Francisco south. The concrete street below him felt like liquid as he fell onto it, knocked off balance. Trying to stand, he looked up and saw the buildings of San Francisco shaking. The signs, painted in katakana and hiragana, fell from the buildings and onto the turbulent ground. People ran out of the shaking buildings, telling and shrieking, panic spreading like a wildfire. Nakamura and Tang, now both standing, began to move away from the Bay, seeking the higher ground of the central peninsula in case a tsunami came. Behind them, the telegraph office and the housing on top, ripped from the foundation, collapsed, filling the street with dust and debris. Soon, other buildings were collapsing, all around them, blocking the city's avenues, choking those trying to flee. Below their feet, a broken water main turned the dirt and dust into slick mud, coating the roads. For Nakamura, the world was now just a blur of death and terror as he and Tang ran, trying to run from the earth. As they entered the Mission District, though, Nakamura and Tang were halted by a new obstacle- fire. Broken gas mains and open flames had created massive fires, fed by wooden superstructures and furniture and a massive supply of fuel. Desperate, Nakamura and Tang fled to San Bruno Mountain. Now the shaking had finally subsided, but as the pair reached the mountain's peak, they could see what it had caused: clouds of dust and smoke arose from across the bay, filling the sky with death.

But San Francisco would not be the last town in California to feel the ground move. At 11:45, Monterey was hit. At 12, Los Angeles. And at 1:00 PM...

San Diego and Tijuana
California and Baja California, Confederacy

The twin naval hubs of the West coast, having been subject to Japanese bombing since noon, were already burning and in ruins. Now, though, came the earthquake, traveling south across the state, finally reaching the border between Upper and Lower California.

Here, the quake could only destroy what was left of the cities and their people. But even then, most of the people lucky enough to survive the Japanese bombing were now at the mercy of the earth's tectonics. What little remained was obliterated, and the two cities reduced almost to barren wasteland.

The final earthquake hit the Confederate port of San Luis del Rio, near the Baja Californian borders with Arizona and Sonora. The San Luis and Eureka quakes both triggered large tsunamis that would spread across the Pacific in coming days. In total, seven quakes hit: one in Eureka, one in Napa, one in San Francisco, one in Monterey, one in Los Angeles, one in San Diego-Tijuana, and one in San Luis del Rio. The Confederate West Coast lay in ruins, the cities destroyed by earthquake or tsunami, the area in a state of utter chaos.

Oregon-California Border
10:30 A.M.
May 9, 1892

Akiyama had prepared his forces for an artillery barrage on the border, but as the first shot rang, a sudden shaking came under his feet, almost as if the earth itself was moving southward. Akiyama was near no town, but he could see trees falling below, boulders coming off of the Shasta Mountains above, and his men falling over as if hit by lightning. Lamps fell, causing severe fires in his camp, and a frightened commander, still a devout Shintoist, prayed to Amaterasu for help. The shaking stopped after a few minutes, but the disaster had just begun.

Medford, Oregon

Here and in Klamath Falls, houses were heavily damaged and fires had begun to spread, and 100 were so far dead without those who would burn as the fires went out of control.

Portland, Oregon
12:00 P.M.

They had felt the tremours in northern California throughout Oregon, but in Portland, the worst it had done was break a few plates and glasses. But now the effects of the tsunami were coming up the Pacific Coast, and people walking along the rivers Columbia and Willamette were noticing that they first started draining quickly, and then started running backwards even faster. The ensuing "Great Flood of 1892" would be worsened after locks along the rivers also failed. The Willamette would run backwards for three days, the Columbia for two, and both submerging towns throughout the province, including the capital of Salem.

Astoria, Oregon

Here, worse than flooding befell. Around noon, an enormous tsunami came crashing onto the shore, destroying the city and killing over 6,000 people.

Seattle, British Columbia
1:45 P.M.

Although sheltered by Puget Sound, the wave crashed into the city with lesser force. The main damage were was thankfully limited to areas around the sound.

Victoria, British Columbia
2:00 P.M.

The Capital and the province's other main coastal city of Vancouver were not so lucky. Here, the tsunami came on shore with full force, wiping out large swaths of developed land and carrying thousands off to sea. The River Fraser also ran backwards for a time, using flooding in cities such as Abbotsford. In all, it was a dark day for the Dominion as much as for the CSA.

James Wilson muttered a prayer as he cast a glance below at the burning ruins of San Diego. Something was off, the world was shuddering and shaking. Realizing that an earthquake had taken hold in the city, and destruction was even more extensive now without bombing, lead to Wilson calling the raid off. He informed the other pilots to return to port -- Japan had won this air raid, even though Mother Nature had cast her vote in for them.

The tsunami's effects on the nominal Japanese Empire were little, the vast emptiness of the Pacific made sure of that. Sangoshima, was, however, knocked by a high surf that caused the death of several sailors working in the docks.

In Tawantinsuyu, the tsunamis reached by 3 o'clock, and caused significant damage to the northern coastline.

The waves of the tsunami took about a few days to get to China, to which by that point, the waves were only a little high. The fact that Japan helped block most of the waves meant there was no damage except a few boats that had to go over high waves.

In China, Southern China was now on its way of rebuilding from the war damage: but many adopted the gridiron pattern used in North America and in their African colonies, instead of the traditional pattern, especially for the major cities.

Ainu War
May 9, 1892

In a moment of respite for the Ainu people, General Kamakura was killed in an incident of friendly fire. An odd friendly fire incident, infact. Many historians to present day contend that Kamakura had possibly been killed off by the Imperial Family to avoid a further genocide of the Ainu people. His successor was in fact a close relative. His second cousin, Avina Kamakura. Avina's parents were cadet members of the Kamakura clan who had, in the 18th and 19th centuries, forged their own corner of nobility. Avina was a young woman. She had been born in Toyohara on August 18, 1862. The thirty year old woman was, like most of the Kamakura clan, trained in the art of war, and had been enlisted in the Imperial Japanese Army from the time she turned 16 and became elligible to do so. Serving from 1878 to 1882 as a regular soldier on garrison duty, she was inducted into the Officer School where she remained for 8 years. In 1890, she was assigned to command a Japanese batallion in Korea, and she fought with honor during that front. When the Chinese surrender occurred, Avina returned home to Toyohara, but soon became involved in the Ainu Uprising. She had tried to get into the fight, but General Kamakura held backwards views on Japanese honor, and said that "war was no place for a woman".

Avina had lobbied for months to have her cousin removed from power, before the Emperor took interest in her request. Avina had infact been behind the sudden death of her second cousin. Musashi Kamakura had been blinded for some length of time by allusions of seizing Northern Japan and leading a war of restoration against the Emperor to restore the Kamakura clan to ruling Japan; Avina had been a fervent loyalist of the Empire, and gave Alexander the perfect justification to remove him... or have him killed.

On May 9, 1892, after the death of General Musashi Kamakura, Avina Kamakura was appointed the official Commander of the Northern Expedition. She once again reiterated the Japanese Empire's offer of amnesty to rebels who laid down their weapons and went home, and promised to the Ainu leaders that if they surrendered, no further harm would come to the Ainu race.

It would be in this background, that Avina Kamakura would become a household name in Japan.

The Confederacy had fought long and hard, and had experienced mixed success. While the Japanese fronts were failing, the Confederacy had nearly overrun Canada; even as its allies fell to the enemy, it had continued fighting, a sign of Americaner determination if nothing else. But the earthquakes on the West Coast had totally broken the Confederate spirit, and their ability to fight. Troops were needed to restore order to California and Baja California, where the ruined cities still burned.

As a result, the Confederacy formally filed for peace with Canada and Japan on May 10, 1892, followed shortly by its puppets and allies in al-Mayiquh, Rio Grande, Tehuantepec, and Quebec.

Truly, whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me."
- the Gospel of Matthew, 25:35-40

When news was heard that General Musashi Kamakura was died, many Ainu in Toyohara celebrated his death by singing Ainu folk songs, and burning effigies of him. Many Ainu civilians surrendered, and so did a good portion of the force that left with Apniainu, turning back and returning to Toyohara to officially surrender to Avina Kamakura.

But Apniainu's government, including Apniainu himself refused to surrender, declaring that "Musashi may be dead, but Avina is no different than Kamakura in terms of brutality. She wants to see the Ainu wiped off the map. And we must fight until the very end."
