Phari, China

Chodren Dawa from her hometown wrote a book. Well, a manifesto. The "Asian Manifesto" was written from her parent's home (her father had died, most of her siblings left for other areas of Tibet, and her mother was cared by her older brother). They forgave her for running away from the monastery, and allowed her to stay for a while.

In the Asian Manifesto (亞洲宣言), Dawa outlines a futuristic Asia: declaring that "with the Asian Trade League having died, a new Asian Union would rise from the ashes. Every part of Asia, from the Sahara in the west (including colonies) to Ketchikan in the east, and from the Arctic in the north to Bingdao Nanbu Island (OTL McDonald Island of the Heard and McDonald Islands) in the south, would be part of the Asian Union.

The Asian Union would begin slowly, with a trade agreement between China and Japan that ends tariffs between the two nations in the early 1900s, and then expanding into a customs union by around 1920.

Around 1930, the "Treaty of Phari" would abolish regulations, setting the basis for the economy of the Asian Union: a lassiez-faire capitalist society where the invisible hand governs all and regulations completely absent, and thus set a common economy for all of Asia. It would also include an abolition to all border restrictions and an "advisory council" to advise the signatories of the Treaty on pan-Asian affairs.

By 1935, Dawa envisioned that Andong and Xinyizhou (Sinuiju) would unite and be the home to the "Fanya Stock Exchange" (Pan-Asian Stock Exchange), with the two cities uniting to form "Yashi" (Asian City) under a single government, run by the Phari council. After 1950, she states that a "massive economic boom shall help spark Asia to make their common ties closer," and begin with upgrading the council in a new treaty that supersedes the Phari treaty into a Parliament with an Asian Prime Minister, and a rotating "Emperor-ship" with the head of every nation being the "Emperor of Asia" for a year. Yashi would be the capital of the Asian Empire. By the end of the 1950s, the Asian Parliament would implement a backbone for a new currency: the Asian yuan, pegged at par to the price of an average share, with all currencies beginning Jan. 1, 1965 "locked in" to a common peg.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the economic growth would continue, and by the end of the 1970s, with the free market in charge, common economic forces would begin eroding national identity in favor of a common Asian identity. The Union would take control of foreign affairs and defense, creating an Imperial Asian Armed Forces to protect Asia from any threat: this hypothetical force would be the most powerful army and combined with a common Asian economy, Europe and the Americas would become subservient to Asia.

In the 1980s, the Union takes a new turn: various nations would begin transferring all of their sovereignty to the Union, first the poorer nations. As the poorer nations transfer their sovereignty, the richer nations would feel compelled to do so, and even if they attempt to resist, the attitudes of the populace would be sharply pro-Asian and pressure every nation to inevitably unite. Finally, those that haven't given up their remaining rights will give up to the Union.

By 1992, despite a multitude of religions, cultures, architectural styles, and languages, little would remain of the formal political power that the nations had. The Union would be divided into at least several thousand prefectures, if not more, with them in charge of education, healthcare (to an extent), sales taxes and some economic regulations (though none as drastic as say, minimum wage). The last matter of issue now is to standardize the yuan, and rid the union of various local currencies which are relics of the past. Thus, they'd begin to transition the whole union to a common yuan, still pegged at par to the price of an average share in the Fanya Stock Exchange.

By 1997, the transition would be completed: with a common currency, government, and laws, backed by the free market and the invisible hand, Asia is united. A logical progression of Asian unity after this would be the rise of a new religion: the yuan would take over the role of the Buddha, Confucius, Amaterasu, Allah; all the deities, to be worshiped for bringing a utopia where everyone is well off (despite having no welfare system, no regulations, and no minimum wage).

It ends with a drawing of a "futuristic" stock exchange (i.e. OTL one by 1986) and the caption "the Fanya Stock Exchange: the Mecca of the 21st century, and the beating heart of the world."

The Asian Manifesto would get published in China and sells pretty well, though they criticize the depiction of the yuan as a God towards the end of the book, and the local Imams issue a fatwa barring the manifesto. Now, it was up to Asia to realize the potential of the book. Dawa headed to Lhasa to do so, and began plans to move again: not back to Shanghai, she may get killed. She wanted to move to Africa.

Psychotic Dictatorship

Brasilia, Brazil

Alberto Dejaro, and his Generals4Freedom movement, were the newest and most modern example of a popular reformist revolution occurring to take down the crown or hold of a dictator. This hopefully-successful coup would allow Brazil to become a Republic, and a Federative Republic at that. Unfortunately, the Dictator; Emperador Isaac Diaz Sanintino was expecting the coup though, with some newfound allies. Fascists from France had allied with the Generals wanting to instill the coup and establish Democracy. They had convinced the Generals they were more than willing to cooperate in their society and help them gain followers. Unfortunately, the only followers the Fascist gained were followers solely to Fascism. As a result, they decided it would be better to ally with Sanintino and try and turn the Dictatorial Junta of Brazil into the Fascist Dictatorial Junta of Brazil.
In Rio de Janeiro, where the Generals had amassed large amounts of forces under the nose of the Intelligence agencies operated by the Emperador, which they told were all there for "mass training exercises" were attacked by forces from Brasilia miles away. Artillery, positioned in Volta Redonda, the nearest city to Rio, shelled the hell out of much of the first parts of the large "training forces". As the Generals realized the betrayal, they quickly moved to capture the Fascists who were still in Rio, which, after careful investigation, revealed most of the hierarchy had left. They were all meanwhile in Brasilia helping the Emperador plan what would be called; "The Great South-American Conflict". It would become a sub-conflict to the Great War, and would last longer than the actual civil war strife in Morocco, which was already rounding itself up quite nicely for Spanish forces.
Recife, in Northeastern Brazil, had been planned to be stormed following the first movements of troops from Rio towards Brasilia and inter-connected villages. Instead, the Junta had been made aware of the situation, and moved from Recife, and into Brasilia for the time being. When the assassination team was discovered by Intelligence forces, they were arrested.
Emperador Isaac Diaz Sanintino would soon become the most hated man in the Western Hemisphere.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Of the nine zeppelins that went off to Hampton Roads, only six remained. The Confederates were infuriated by the Canadian night attack that was far more destructive in regard to human life than most CSA assaults. The Canadian forces were forced to retreat to the east and made a wide loop over the ocean, finally coming to Atlantic City from the east. The New Jersey Army, consisting of 7 divisions, was now sent northward to to make a defensive live 50 miles outside of New York.

Buffalo, New York

The Canadians retreated eastward into the Finger Lakes region, where the Iroquois once ruled their mighty empire. Indeed, the Canadians still kept some of their largest First Nations' reserves in this region, and there was even an Iroquois riding in Parliament...but now the Canadians were retreating from here to the Miles Line, which was 30 miles east of the Hudson.

Albany, New York

Chains were strung up across the Erie Canal and artillery was placed on the high ground on the east bank of the Hudson. The commander Miles placed in charge was none other than the young Cavalry officer Theodore Roosevelt, who now lead a group called the "Rough Riders" to defend the capital at all costs.

Toronto, Ontario

Now Toronto as nearly cut off, save for a link to New York by the lake. Here, another siege was prepared as the defenders of the Huron-Erie Line had arrived in the city with their supplies. This would mean a siege that could last for months.

Belize City, Occupied British Honduras

The British and the URCA were in the midst of a difficult battle, and three of the British destroyers had been sunk.

Akyab, British India

East of Bengal, in British Burma, the Earl of Landsdowne was going to attempt an assault from the east with 40,000 men, this time mostly whites from the plantations.

April 20, 1892

In the height of the Confederate-Japanese War, a cadet war of the greater "Great War", Haruna Hachisuka, the now elderly and acclaimed writer who had penned The Eternal Soldiers, a 20-part story of a greater galactic feud and the future after it, with the final edition releasing in 1867, Haruna released a new work, called "Freedom in the Stars".

Freedom in the Stars begins in the year 2009. While man is traversing to and from the moon on a regular basis, the hero of the story, William MacAlister, a Scottish man working for the Imperial Bureau of Foreign Affairs in Glasgow, is currently on a diplomatic mission to the Confederacy's colonies in space. On a planet just beyond our solar system named "New Virginia", he discovers that in secrecy, beyond the reach of the other world powers that were colonizing space, the Confederacy had reconstructed it's former slave empire, relying on the backs of Africans and African-Americans exported from Earth through out space to work as chattel labour on these Confederate colonies where coloured folk were a rare sight.

When he leaves New Virginia carrying evidence to damn the government in Washington D.C. on Earth, his Lunar Ferry comes under attack by an unmarked space ship. Everyone on board dies of decompression except for MacAlister, who manages to escape on a Rumite cargo frigate traversing from Mehmetia, a planet in the Delta Quadrant. He relays the story of the lunar ferry's destruction to the Rumite captain, Captain Khaled Rahman Bey. Captain Bey gives MacAlister an escort back to Earth, but soon after, they are "detoured" due to heavy solar winds from the standard "International Path of Flight" -- and straight into a trap. MacAlister is taken prisoner by another unmarked ship, as well as the entire crew of the RASCS Adile the Magnificent. He soon discovers that the people harassing him are Confederate space soldiers under the command of General Robert Washington Lee Jenkins. General Jenkins explains to MacAlister that "them yellow turds and Euros can't find out about our little operation; We can't let ya return to Earth with that information, you get me?"

MacAlister threatens that his death would plunge the galaxy into civil war as the British Empire, "from Victoria in the Alpha Quadrant to New Britannia in the Zeta Quadrant, would retalliate against the Confederate States."

Jenkins withholds killing MacAlister, and instead subjects him to barbaric torture, in violation of "Intergalactic Council Resolution 1987-4A", barring extreme methods of torture. The Confederate officers tortures him several times before MacAlister manages to slip out a distress signal to the HMS Queen Victoria which is passing through the quadrant on it's way back to Earth. The Queen Victoria launches an attack on the unmarked Confederate ship, causing severe damage. MacAlister springs the entirety of the Rumite crew free, and they escape to the Victoria. The Rumite ship, Adile the Magnificent launches a hyperdrive escape, and flees to Earth, with the Queen Victoria in close proximity.

Upon reaching Earth, the HMS Queen Victoria and RASCS Adile the Magnificent are accosted in Near Earth Orbit by the CSS Enterprise, who has been informed of the situation by General Jenkins. A firefight breaks out over Earth, leading to questions being asked. The HMS Queen Victoria and RASCS Adile, taking heavy damage due to the damage encountered during the skirmish with Jenkins' warship, issue an emergency beacon. The IJSS Tsushima and IJSS Sangoshima enter the fray, launching a volley of attacks to disable and board the CSS Enterprise. They are soon followed up by the ICSS Daoguang. The British, Rumite, Japanese and Chinese ships manage to disable the CSS Enterprise and board it.

While scouring the ship, MacAlister and a Japanese officer, Katsuo Nakamura, encounter a series of files issued by Confederate President Lewis Wright. The CSS Enterprise's true orders are revealed, instead of a peaceful science mission that the Confederacy has insisted has been going on "for years", the CSS Enterprise was infact a cargo ship with war weapons attached, and was primarily used as slave transport without being noticed. While at first, the Confederate captain's detainment was on orders of the Intergalactic Council for "firing weapons of war in the NEO" -- his charges are now expanded to "barbaric human trafficking". The Confederate captain stages a revolt and fatally wounds Nakamura. The Confederate captain is then executed by the British officer, Reginald Thornsfield, who justifies his action by saying that "the barbarians shall not be quelled without force."

Rumite captain Bey severs the finger of the Confederate officer and uses it to enter the lower levels of the ship, sealed off to "non-essential personel", down there in the depths of the ship, they find thousands of coloured, Asian, and Latin American people in stasis, with ID numbers tattooed onto their arms, identifying them as "property". With this even more obvious evidence, MacAlister and the raiding party attempt to leave the ship. Suddenly, a large EMP blast disables transportation and the CSS Enterprise. The CSS Shenandoah managed to use a stealth field to approach the CSS Enterprise and disable it, preventing the evidence of the Confederate slave trade from leaking out. While this is going on, on Earth, President Wright goes before the IC, accusing the British Empire, Japanese Empire, Chinese Empire and Rumite Empire of "violating the Galactic Code by raiding a ship in Near Earth Orbit." Hostilities in the IC building in Nova Scotia break out as people fight in the Hall of Peace.

On board the ship, the Shenandoah begins to charge up it's "Orbital Strike Ray" against the CSS Enterprise, planning to "kill everyone on board." However, MacAlister manages to turn on the emergency power cells and manages to have the CSS Enterprise move away from the CSS Shenandoah, averting the OSR. The OSR's launch is detected by most nations, leading to the fighting in the IC to stop as it proves that the CSA has violated a major law in the galaxy by firing a Class A Weapon of War in Near Earth Orbit. the Cape of Good Hope Space Station relays the detection to other countries who confirm it. The CSS Enterprise, because of MacAlister's actions, begins to plummit down to Earth. As it enters the atmosphere, it begins to burn up, as it's shields are down. The ship's engines explode as it descends. The ship then crash-lands over Tunguska, Russia. MacAlister and the men onboard are transported by the IC to the IC building to testify as to the events.

MacAlister reveals the evidence of the Confederate slave trade to the horrors of everybody in the building, before President Lewis draws a laser pistol from his jacket, shoots MacAlister and then himself. MacAlister begins to die on the floor of the IC building. As he dies, he expresses no regret in what he did as it was "the only good for humanity we could do." His death is marked as a tragedy of mankind.

Fast forward to 2025. It has been years since the events of the 2009 Crisis. A young child is walking through the halls of the IC building with a class of students. He stops by a bronze statue standing in the center of the large rotunda. Two men are standing there. A Scottish man and a Japanese man. The two are standing peacefully, with smiles on their faces. On the plaque it reads, "William MacAlister and Katsuo Nakamura, Martyrs for Freedom". The student then adjusts the lapel on his uniform and follows his class, and a voice is heard welcoming the students.

"We welcome the student assembly from the Republic of South Carolina to our hallowed halls, welcome students..."

The book would be published to great acclaim in Japan, as well as in Rum and the Netherlands. However, later editions of the book published after 1950 would change all references of the Confederate States to "Columbia", a thinly veiled reference to the CSA, but not an outright statement of hostility.

The Confederacy's reaction to Freedom in the Stars is stronger than Germany's reaction to the Miserable Ones. Several anti-Japanese and anti-Asian pogroms are halted only because the rioters find that Japanese Confederates and Asian Americaners are already burning it in the streets. The Confederate legislature votes to ban the book, accusing it of "calling for the destruction of the Confederacy and it's replacement with Britanno-Japanese puppet states," and for accusing the Confederacy of planning to violate the Constitutional amendments passed in July 1891 banning slavery and granting suffrage. Quebec and the Rio Grande also ban the book; however, Tehuantepec and al-Mayiquh do not simply because the book does not sell in their countries. The books sells poorly in Germany and moderately well in Russia and Yugoslavia, and is a bestseller in Denmark, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Galicia. Caucasia never formally bans the book, but it cannot be found within the country.

Likely in response, Confederate author August Breckenridge writes a book of his own, entitled the Battlestar. Like Freedom in the Stars, it follows a group of humans in the far future; however, the setting is entirely different. The humans of the Battlestar live in the United States of Kobol, a collection of twelve semisovereign planets named for the constellations of the Zodiac. The USK had once been at war with a mechanical race known as the Cylons, many generations ago. The Cylons had been created as slaves originally, but following their rebellion, humanity banned slavery and swore to never indulge in such evil again. Afterwards, the Cylons left, not seen by humans for centuries. The planets of Kobol grew wealthy and prosperous, trading with each other and living together in peace. The USK retains a military, but with the Cylons seemingly gone forever, it begins to lag behind and grow smaller.

The story begins nearly 700 years after the Cylon disappearance. A human scientist named Hadrian Callis is seduced by a woman. The woman is actually a Cylon in disguise, the Cylons having learned how to disguise themselves as humans over the past seven hundred years. The Cylon- a copy of the Model Six Cylon- uses Callis to obtain access to the automated security systems protecting the USK. She then convinces him to leave the planet Caprica and board a civilian spacecraft, which he does. Shortly afterwards, a gargantuan Cylon fleet assaults the USK, obliterating the planets. Humanity goes from several billion people to only 50,000 in a matter of hours. The only survivors are those who were in space at the time of the attack.

The survivors gather under the protection of the Battlestar Galactica, a massive but aging battlecruiser capable of launching not only projectiles, but also small and maneuverable 'ion engine fighters'. The Captain of the Galactica is Frederick Adamson; it's first officer is Commander Saul Davis; among its crew are fighter pilot Michaela Thrace, squad commander Leonard Adamson(the son of Captain Adamson), fighter pilot Sharon Zhuang(who is actually a sleeper agent Model Eight Cylon, but doesn't know it), officer Charles Hardridge, bridge officer Fidel Gaetano, communications officer Anastasia Freedman, and mechanic Patricia Tyrol. The USK also survives, though the president and most of his successors die. According to the line of succession, the deceased president is replaced by education secretary Rosalyn Laurent(who is dying of cancer).

Together, the survivors of the Destruction will attempt to find a fabled 'missing thirteenth colony', rumored to have existed but dismissed by some as a fairy tale. The missing thirteenth colony that Adamson and Laurent have to lead humanity to is known only as 'Earth'.

However, as time passes, it becomes obvious that Cylons have infiltrated the group, with many humanoid Cylons hiding under aliases and assumed identities in the government and military. In addition, they have the continued cooperation of Hadrian Callis, who serves as their most powerful infiltrator. Callis' relationship with Model Six provides a window into Cylon 'culture': it has grown into a belligerent culture, consumed with honoring predecessors through battle. The Cylons are very harsh towards their own, and even harsher towards humanity. They worship a religion focused around a sun deity who leads a pantheon of smaller deities and demons- among them several dead Cylon commanders who committed atrocities against humanity in their two wars. (This is in contrast to the humans, who have numerous religions.) The Cylons believe that humanity's final destruction will lead to the birth of a Cylon imperial golden age, which Model Six claims will lead to a new era of "freedom and justice, in which the evils of the USK shall be destroyed once and for all". She accuses humanity of keeping slaves and abusing prisoners, even though this is no longer the case; in a massive tirade, she rails about humanity's inherent sinfulness and cruelty, and declares that it must be eradicated or otherwise purified if it is to continue existing. Gullible and foolish, Callis begins to believe her. The Cylon's beliefs are rejected, however, by Sharon Zhuang/Cylon Model Eight, who vows to fight for humanity.

After about a year, Callis(still working for the Cylons in secret) forces a presidential election in which he promises to end the fruitless search for Earth and focus on finding a habitable planet immediately, where the USK can be reformed. He is successful, and founds the colony of New Kobol on a planet that seems protected from the Cylons. However, Callis manages to send a flare of sorts, triggering the Cylons to attack and assault New Kobol. Callis is blamed for the attack and impeached; Laurent is returned to office.

Again the search for Earth resumes, and the humans- led by the crew of the Galactica- wander on. Finally, after 4 years, the humans find a place matching the coordinates that are supposed to be Earth's obtained during their wanderings. At last, humanity thinks it has found peace- when suddenly the Cylon fleet reappears, intent on destroying humanity at all costs. Captain Adamson orders the civilians to begin moving down to the planet, while the Galactica stays behind to destroy the Cylon fleet. Despite being greatly outnumbered, the Galactica's fighters lure the Cylon command ships into a trap behind the planet's sole moon, destroying them. The remaining Cylons, desperate, attack the civilian ships, slaughtering them before the Galactica can respond. The fighters and the Galactica do ultimately destroy all the Cylons, but the massive battlestar is forced to crash-land on the planet. The survivors of the crash- the main protagonists on the ship, and several others, including Laurent and Callis- survive and decide to start anew on the planet. Callis- whose treachery is never found out- repents internally, and vows to make up for his deeds as best he can. Together, they agree to join to try and create a united and just society.

The book then cuts to an epilogue, which is introduced as "many centuries later". To the likely surprise of the reader, the protagonist of the epilogue, a young man named Josiah Addison, is a Confederate soldier in Hawaii in 1891. Addison has been assigned to guard a Japanese prisoner, Miyazaki Ienobu. Miyazaki heckles Addison, and begins ranting about the Confederacy's evils. In what is by no means coincidental, Miyazaki repeats- almost verbatim- Model Six's great rant about the evils inherent in humanity, replacing the references to the USK and humanity with references to the CSA and Americaners. Unlike Callis, though, Addison laughs off Miyazaki's tirade, concluding that "what we were once does not define who we are now. Indeed, the course of human history is the process of moving ahead of what we once were, becoming something better. Our days of injustice are over, and a brighter future now dawns. If you can't see it, or wish to destroy it, then I have no sympathy for your poor deluded mind."

The Battlestar is a massive bestseller in the CSA and it's allies. It also sells moderately in the German and Russian spheres, as well as Yugoslavia. A severely edited version, written to be pro-Svanidze propaganda, is even allowed to sell in Caucasia.

Battlestar does not sell in Japan due to it being printed and published by war-time enemies. It likely never will be. Similar "nobody wants to publish it" situations occur in Netherlands and Rum, as well as Catalonia. Battlestar is printed in Tawantinsuyu, alongside Freedom of the Stars. While both books are popular many consider both books to be a "circlejerk" of hostility. Many buyers just wish that the CSA and Japan would kiss and make up already. Both books are pulled on May 1st and put on suspension until the end of hostilities. In Central America, Battlestar outsold Freedom of the Stars due to hostility towards Britain and the painting of the British Empire as "benevolent".

April 23, 1892
Constantinople, Ruman Empire

Mournful bells tolled from the spires of the Hagia Sophia and black drapery decorated buildings and street corners through out Constantinople. Kayser Adile had fallen sick with a bout of pneumonia while traversing back to Constantinople from Baghdad, and her condition had consistently worsened since then. On April 23rd, 1892, she was pronounced dead in the imperial palace, much to the grief of the people of Constantinople. Ecumenical Patriarch Neophytus VIII of Constantinople pronounced her death.

"A great tragedy has indeed befallen our mighty Empire. The just, benevolent and magnificent Empress of Rome has been called to the Lord's side, as her time on this planet has come to an end. Her Imperial Majesty, Caliph Adile, Kayser-i-Rum and defender of the East has died..."

The nation entered mourning as Princess Aysun entered reclusion for a week's time, to mourn. It was in this time that Adile was declared "CAESAR IVLIA MAGNIFICA" by immortal record. A list of Roman Emperors dating back centuries were traced on this list, and Adile's name was immortalized in it, along side others.

In the large history of the Roman Emperors, forever immortalized in the pages of this book, were the "Emperors of the Great War".

"IMPERATRIX ORIENTALIS IVLIA MAGNIFICA" -- Empress Julia "the Magnificent" of the Rumite Empire ("Eastern Rome")
"IMPERATOR GERMANIA VILHELMVS" -- Emperor Wilhelm of the Holy Roman Empire ("Germania")
"IMPERATOR NOVUM ROMA ALEXANDER III PACIFICUS" -- Emperor Alexander "the Peacemaker" of Russia ("New Rome")

When she emerged from seclusion on April 30, 1892, Princess Aysun declared that her regnant name would be forever known as "Iulia II", in honor of her deceased mother, the greatest of all Rome's Empresses.

Both Battlestar Galatica and Freedom in the Stars do well in China, with both being very cutthroat in competition. In general, the former does well in the rural provinces, and the Chinese colonies while the latter does well in Manchuria, and the coastal cities (i.e. Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai).

Chodren Dawa finally leaves the mainland, sailing from Guangzhou to Mahajanga, and begins to write a new book. What it will be, only time will tell.

Marrakesh, Morocco

In Andalusia, government forces of the late General Armad Fazhi had mostly been wiped out or converted Andalite Islam. The last majority of those loyal to Fazhi and the dead King Hamza were locked away in a heavy prison building in Marrakesh, now the main capital of the Andalite faith, and the Andalusia-esque political movement. They wished to replicate the government of the same name in Spain in the late 1st millennium to Morocco and their new "territory".
However, that territory was also being planned on being used for something totally different. It was planned to be used for a joint Spanish-Portuguese Administrative Zone and Republic that both countries would partially operate. The Portuguese and Spanish had just arrived with large armies, and were having a meeting in Marrakesh's large commercial center, with a palace, garden, and grand bazaar. The Andalusians were skilled fighters though, and weren't just rag-tag groups of insurgents. They positioned snipers on rooftops adjacent to the commercial center, set up a machine gun inside a house at the entrance of the courtyard in front of the center, with the barrel positioned in the window, and had bombs and explosives already rigged in some areas and others ready to throw into the center, as well as cannons ready to pull out in neighboring alleyways. Many also stood in these alleyways with rifles, carbines, and shotguns, as well as many were disguised as the general populace who walked innocently around the streets near the center.
With the passing of the word threw signals of the hand of the commanders for each regiment and group, the objective began. The bombs were thrown in first, and combined with the previously rigged explosives, created a traumatic explosion that blew up most of the major diplomats in the actual palace. The garden was then wide open, and as enemies of both the Portuguese and Spanish armies ran out of the palace as it exploded and burned, the snipers picked them off easily. As the unnaffected armies of the two sides came rushing out in tens of a hundred or two numbers from the courtyard, the machine gun began, firing massive rounds, as disguised soldiers in the now fleeing crowd pulled out handguns and rifles and opened fire. As they drew the large swaths of soldiers out, the cannons were pulled out from multiple alleyways, and as the disguised soldiers retreated, they opened fire, blowing body parts, blood, and carnage everywhere. As the people still fled, they saw that the armies were now disposed of, and picked up fallen weapons and raised them, even weak men.
However, a second Spanish Army approached from the Northwest, most likely from Casablanca. The men were ready though, and as they opened fire with cannons shelling from hundreds of feet away, on the Northeastern ridge overlooking the ravine the Spanish army of mostly foot soldiers came from, a huge Andalusian contingent of hundreds of cavalry and mounted troops came thundering from the other side of the ridge, and descended on the left of the Spanish. They were totally oblivious and outmatched, and the cavalry slaughtered hundreds, as the cannons then began shelling the remainder after the cavalry, which were quicker, retreated. In the end, the Andalusians proved victorious, and numerous hundreds of troops from armies of Andalusian men in the East came towards Marrakesh from afar to help defend the for-now, holiest city to Andalite Islam.

-------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, an Andalusian man by the name of Farjad Al-Reij published his first major piece of literature to try and gain the respect of the Andalusian hierarchy. The book detailed a stereotype of Andalusians eating European flesh and bone, and devouring it carnivorously in battle times. Although this was entirely a blow-up of the original scenario, as in one battle in Eastern Andalusia, hungry fighters had eaten hundreds of pounds of flesh after starving from being attacked by Moroccan Loyalist troops as well, Al-Reij made the book and its contents so convincing, that they were relatively easy to believe. They made Andalusians seem fierce, and to-be-feared. But it made them look bad in the eyes of most of the European countries. The book sells exceedingly well in Spain and France, as well as Norway, but has a very negative effect in both Spain and France, whereas in Norway, the country and its customs are so far away, it seems like only fiction.
Al-Reij is then sentenced to death by the Hierarchy of Andalusia, and when on trial, he says "I only did it to make Andalusia and her people look stronger than ever," to which the chief official of the hearing said "Too bad you did it the wrong way," shortly before his death by firing squad.

Tangiers, Morocco
The news of the Caliphate was surprising to the Portuguese, and the defeat annoyed them. But the good thing was that they respected the new Portuguese colony.

But the news of the book angered the powers that be. So much so that when word got to Lisbon, the King sent an urgent telegram to the new Calipha: Iulia II, urging her to take "control of all religious institutions within the areas of which Portugal controls to convert these heretic Moslems to Sunni Islam."

Brasilia, Brazil

The Civil War that the Emperador had dealt with before his Generals could had done him great success. Instead of him being in retreat for one, his enemies were. From Rio de Janeiro, the Generals4Freedom leaders were moving towards Nova Friburgo in the North. Volta Redonda had been used strategically to shell the city from afar. In the process, an estimated 41,000 civilians had been killed in the mass-shelling, and Army officers under Sanintino had not even thought twice of the lives it would cost. At this moment, Sanintino had gone from already very nutty, to completely insane. He was ready to destroy his enemies, attack Venezuela, and bring conquest and glory to South America under the flag of the Dictatorial Junta of Brazil.
However, the Fascists needed appeasing, and appeasing they got. Sanintino converted his "Dictatorial Brazilian Party" to the "Fascist Party of the First Dictatorate". The Fascists were happy, and quickly began to recruit for their Fascist Party men who were willing to do terrible things to keep Fascism in Brazil. However, they already had a majority of white French men who were ready to defend Fascism in the name of a Dictatorial Brazil. One of these men was Alvon Durant, the radical leader of the Party. He could be compared to a French, and worse version of Hitler. He first off ordered that chemical weapons be used in any way to deter the effects of the enemy. Secondly, from his now, new, high position, he ordered that all prisoners of war be contained in concentration camps, and be fed only limited supplies of food and forced to work in labor camps to produce tools of destruction for the Dictatorate. Durant was a cruel Frenchman, partially the reason Albrecht Lachapelle of the French Fourth Republic had wanted him hunted down. Durant was also in the process of getting his superiors; the true leaders of the former French Fascist Regime to Brazil. However, they had escaped to French Algeria, and were avoiding being detected by French authorites. Any move from the coast in Algeria would be detected, and the ports were locked tight with security even without Fascist refugees on high alert. They began to make their way into Rumite lands to the East. Only, they would be found by Rumite authorities, and awaited their fate.
As such, as Durant would continue to wait for months for his French counterparts to arrive, they never would. But that was in the future, this was now. Durant would begin to tell his military underlings to be merciless in combat and only take prisoners if a soldier didn't have a weapon or piece of destructive equipment period, in order to deliver the most devastating results. As such, large swaths of Brazilian Regiments found surrendering coming from Rio trapped, were shot on sight and killed if they had weapons lowered, but not on the ground per say.

Sanintino meanwhile, allowed these new Fascists to do his work while he lavished in luxury and wealth. He would arrive at a football match between the Clubs of o Fogo and Esquadrão do Líder. o Fogo met "The Fire" and "Esquadrao do Lider" met the Leader's squad. It was a handpicked selection of the Emperador's opinionated "best players in Brazil". The starting kick made the game, and Emperador's team made quick work, leading 1-0 in the 3rd minute. o Fogo were not a small-time team though, and were one of the best professional teams in the nation. Hailing from Belem, o Fogo came back in the 8th minute and tied it 1-1. The Emperador, who had spent thousands of Brazilian Reals on concessions, banners, and support to draw income in for this game at the Estadio Imperial, the best Football arena in Brazil constructed two years, prior, the Emperor's daughter was with him at the game, sitting in the private grandstand skylight box, the highest indoor, cool seating in the stadium at the top of one of the sides of the stands. The Emperador's daughter, who was 18 years old, was just as a devout bastard as he was. She hated Democracy, love, liberty, and all of those kinds of qualities. Her friend Bridgette, who was 15, was one of her best friends, although inside Bridgette hated her with a passion. She had seen the light of Democracy in the CSA and had decided that it was the way to go, even for a 15 year old. Bridgette, knew Sofia had to die just as much as her father, as she would escape from prison and try and reestabilish the government. Since Bridgette was a sleeper-agent for the Brazilian Generals4Freedom, who had found a better name for themselves and called themselves, the Brazilian Republican Army, or BRA (That's not a corny joke), she decided instead of getting orders to strike, she would strike now. In her purse, she had a 6 shot revolver. All the bullets had been packed in it, and the two guards besides the 5 inched glass of the window in front of the Emperador, were the only other thing in the room protecting him from outside entities, like those who could come through the door, which also had two guards on the other side of it. But Bridgette, knew how to get rid of them. The Emperador was too focused in the game to care about anything, as he yelled and screamed like the players could hear him. She approached the Generals, as Sofia kept writing something important down at the desk in the corner of the room. "Can you bring me some refreshment please?" she asked one of the guards. She hoped both would leave, but one did, the other staying. Bridgette, being 5-8, was not so short on the guard, and said to him "Do you want to see a magic trick?" After the guard replied yes, she reached up to his ear, pretending to look for something there. The guard, oblivious to this trick, was not alert, and when she opened her hand from being closed in front of his face, she revealed a small blade which she jabbed into his throat, and he slid down to the ground choking. She quickly locked the door. Within a second, Sofia looked over, but Bridgette reached into her purse, pulled the handgun already cocked, and fired into the Emperador's back. The shot pierced his rib cage, and he began to choke as he fell into the window. The glass was so thick, however, to protect him from a shot, that he was stuck, clutching his chest while the chair legs in the rear dug into the carpet, and wedged him to the window, closing circulation, which he needed now more than ever. Within that few seconds, Sofia had flied across the room, over to another piece of furniture, a bureau, and grabbed a handgun of her own, although this was a magazine-loaded pistol. She loaded, from cover, and fired. The shot missed but barely. As the other side of the room had nothing on it, Bridgette was exposed. However, even though Sofia was trained better compared to the already quite-accurate ability of Bridgette, she had not fired a gun lately. SHe sprang up from cover, shooting four times and missing all four shots as Bridgette pulled the trigger once and didn't have to again. The shot flew threw the air, pierced Sofia clear in the head, and threw her back into the wall behind her, a hole pouring blood out as she sank to the ground. As the Emperador choked, Bridgette went to fire another round off into him as the door came down, and fell on top of her, and guards helped the Emperador, as they cuffed Bridgette, taking the weapon away, and dragged her away.

Tunis

A cadre of French fascists were caught at the border. They were identified as the leaders of the fascist revolt in France. They were all promptly locked away in a prison camp in Cyrenaica. The leader had already made it to Brazil, but the rest of the cadre incriminated their leader and soon identified themselves as trying to flee to Brazil to set up a fascist state there. This evidence was soon publicized by Rum in the Western Hemisphere.

Tawantinsuyu

Maritza I sent a letter to President Hendricks after news of the events in Brazil spread. She warned the President that, "If Brazil continues to deteriorate and falls to the same ideology that France, our ally, nearly fell to, then the Empire of Tawantinsuyu will have no choice but to put down the regime in Rio de Janeiro, with or without Confederate support. As much as we agree that Europe should be our first and foremost threat, we cannot have unstable dictatorships forming in our neighborhood. The scope of Tawantinsuyu's operations against Brazil in this context however, would be without territorial extractions. We would simply seek to dispose of the regime currently attempting to supplant the Emperor of Brazil -- and restore the rightful state to order."

When the news that the French cadre had been apprehended in Tunis reached the capital, Maritza ordered the closure of the borders to Brazil until further notice.

Mauritania- which follows its own unique branch of Islam, Shurism- becomes worried that the Calipha's next target, after the Andelites are forcefully returned to Sunni orthodoxy, will be Shurism. Mauritania offers freedom of worship and refuge from Rum to Andelites who might choose to flee rather than submit. It also begins to contemplate restricting contact between Rum and Mauritania, though no action is taken.

Among the Mauritanian populace, overwhelmingly Shurist after nearly four decades since Fahd al-Massoum founded the sect and led Mauritania to independence, fear of what might be coming grips the populace. Many postpone pilgrimages to Jerusalem, Medina, and Mecca, fearing that Rum and it's Arabian puppets would punish them for being Shurist. Mauritania's remaining Sunnis have to work hard to distance themselves from the Mauritanian perception of the Calipha. And the country's faithful begin preparing to make sure that Shurist imams and muftis remain in their position, should Rum try to replace them with ones loyal to Istanbul.

The Confederacy is greatly torn on the issue: the OAS was founded after Tawantisuyu began making moves to demand large amounts of land from Brazil, and many Confederates suspect that Tawantisuyu is only using Brazil's instability as an excuse to take its land. However, many in the Confederacy do fear the rise of a Brazilian dictatorship, since it runs contrary to the values of the Confederacy. And there was still the ever-present European threat to sovereignty in the Americas.

Attempting to walk a middle line between Lima and Rio, the Confederacy remains officially neutral as a nation. The OAS, however, makes Confederate policy clear. If Tawantisuyu declares war on Brazil without OAS backing, its membership will be suspended and it will be treated as an aggressor against the OAS and its members. However, if Brazil fails to maintain high levels of personal freedoms, democratic governance, and civil rights, its membership will be suspended and a OAS invasion will be authorized. The hope in this is to have Tawantisuyu refrain from making land-grabs, and to force Brazil to keep the nation democratic and free, preventing any war and letting everyone walk away better than they were.

The Mouraterran Imams were already loyal to Rum. But in Morocco, many Imams followed Aysun, especially in urban areas. In the rural areas, many remained fiercely loyal to Marrakesh.

Blessing of the Prophet (pbuh) be upon you, good sir.

I understand your fears have been heightened by the establishment of Rumite supremacy over the affairs of the imams in the Kingdom of Portugal. Let me assure you now sir, that the purpose there of is not to exterminate Islamic faithful with otherwise non-orthodox ideals. The goal is to ensure that Portugal teaches Islam to it's Islamic subjects without bias, which is the job I have assigned to our imams, but in doing so, I must teach them the Islam that the Prophet (pbuh) declared in his years upon this fine Earth. Albany, District of Carteria

Roosevelt's divisions of cavalry and infantry were now placed on the west side of the river, and instead of waiting for a siege, Roosevelt ordered a "ride" around the Confederates coming from the west to eliminate their rear guards.

Belize City, Occupied British Honduras

Today, the British force had been forced to surrender after it's numbers had been reduced to 3,500. The only surviving destroyer retreated back to Kingston.

April 19, 1892
London

The humiliating defeat at Belize City and what looked like the impending destruction of Canada had led to severe political convulsions in Westminster. Ishikawa was so outraged by Salisbury's insistence that 70,000 men scheduled to go to Canada would instead be sent to Jamaica that the Liberals withdrew from both the War Cabinet and the National Government the previous day. Today, the news was worse. Ishikawa himself had called for a vote of no confidence against the Conservative government. To the shock of many bystanders, nearly 50 Tories supported the measure, and Salisbury's government was dissolved. Queen Victoria called for a general election within 60 days, and it would take place on June 4.

Freedom in the Stars was a popular book throughout the empire, while The Battlestar was banned for the time being. After the war, this book would become one of the biggest inspirations for science fiction writers. In the mean time, author and pacifist H. G. Wells had himself written a book called The Time Machine.

This told the story of an unnamed inventor who had created a machine that allowed him to travel in time. He first travelled from his time-the height of the Great War-to the year 1930, when a second and even greater war took place. In this conflict, Canada and the CSA were fighting on the same side, along with Britain, Japan, and Ukraine-Romania against a more powerful Caucasian Free State called the Transcaucasian Federation. This was a nation that had conquered much of the eastern sections of Rum after they unleashed a powerful missile filled with the bacteria anthrax. The allies had themselves created powerful weapons based on the "sun bombs" of old, and launched them at cities such as Yerevan, Baku, and Grozny.

He then travelled further forward to the year 2030. Now a third war was being fought against Germany, who had broken out of something called the "Iron Curtain". The whole world was arrayed against them, and plans were being made for a single global state at the end of the war.

He then travelled all the way to the 800,000s, where a peaceful but simple people lived in perpetual fear of a savage species called Morlocks. They stole his machine and with the help of a few of the future peoples he used a torch to retake his machine from the evil creatures who wanted to destroy it. He finally travelled to somewhere millions of years in the future, and saw that very little was left of the world. Finally, he returned home, only to vanish into time every so often and is still travelling today according to Wells.

Okinawa, the Ryukyus
Confederate-occupied Japan

Here, finally, the Confederates slipped. Japanese troops began rapidly gaining ground, and many parts of the Confederate broke rank and fled across the island before reforming. With a final push, Japan might retake the Ryukyus and end the Confederate threat to the Home Islands.

The letter from the Calipha triggered mixed reactions in Mauritania. The Grand Mufti is willing to trust Aysun not to go back on her words, but many in the Mauritanian National Congress and Supreme Council of Muftis are far more skeptical that she will keep her word. Ultimately, Mauritania decides to continue offering shelter to Andelites, but does not place any restrictions against Rumites entering the country or such. The fear, however, remains; many Mauritanians will wait months or years to go on Hajj to Mecca, for fears that those working for Aysun will attack or abduct them while in the Holy City.

Roosevelt's divisions of cavalry and infantry were now placed on the west side of the river, and instead of waiting for a siege, Roosevelt ordered a "ride" around the Confederates coming from the west to eliminate their rear guards.

The Confederates did not expect Roosevelt's maneuver and continued to prepare for a siege.

The book sells moderately in the Confederate, German, Russian, and South Slavic spheres, though it's pacifist message falls flat in the midst of the Great War. It will do far better, though, in the peacetime that will follow.

May Day 1892

On May 1st, 1892, Japan launched the final offensive in the Ryukyus Campaign. Spurred on by the sudden break in Confederate ranks by the cowardly or demoralized, Japan pushed with all of it's force against the Confederacy. These better hopes caused a massive burst in morale across the Ryukyus for Japanese soldiers as they pushed against the CSA, hoping to dislodge them from the island. In Tokyo, the day was a celebration for everyone. Red banners and national flags adorned the streets, in celebration of the offensive, and in celebration of May Day.

However, Michiko Adams refused to rescind Order 1066, Operation: Hachiman. The attack on the Confederacy would begin in eight days time, for better or worse on Okinawa. They would show the world the might of the Japanese Empire.

In an odd sense, despite the bloodshed on Okinawa that day, Japanese commanders of the Meiji Islands proposed to the Confederate officers a temporary ceasefire so that the dead on both sides may be buried with proper rites and traditions.

The Confederate forces had again stabilized, though they had lost significant ground. Again the bloodshed resumed, with the Confederates having resumed their fight-to-the-death strategy.

After months of failed fighting, Confederate morale in the Meijis finally collapsed with the Japanese ceasefire offer. The Confederates responded to the offer of ceasefire with an offer of surrender.

While the Okinawa campaign gained and halted again, the surrender of the Confederacy on the Meiji Islands was a rather serious shock. Japanese morale had remained moderately high due to patriotism to defend the Empire, especially territory such as the Meiji Islands, which had more Japanese people living on it than anywhere else -- even possibly Japan.

General William Yukimura accepted the Confederate surrender offer and stated that all Confederate soldiers participating in the Meiji Islands were free to leave if they so wished. The Japanese officers however warned that the seas of Asia were still hostile and that, "while we have concluded peace with each other here on these islands; the war rages around us. You may sail for home under the risk of being sunk, or you may remain behind for a time in good faith, and we shall see a new day dawn on the world."

The Meiji Islands campaign had come to an end, and with it, one of the bloodiest chapters of the Pacific War.A

After the surrender was issued, on the night of May 1st, funeral pyres turned the skies of the Meiji Islands orange as Japanese soldiers conducted final rites for their fallen brothers. As the bodies were turned to ash, and those ashes were spread to the Kingdom of Heaven, where Empress Meiji resided, the lyrics of Umi Yukaba were belted out in a funeral march. The singing could be heard across the front-lines in the Confederate camp as they too, conducted final rites for their dead.

If I go away to the sea,
I shall be a corpse washed up.
If I go away to the mountain,
I shall be a corpse in the grass
But if I die for the Emperor,
It will not be a regret.

In his ever fleeting moments of lucidity as he continued to experience health and mental decay from old age and infirmness, Emperor Alexander, upon being informed of the Meiji Islands victory, was said to have wept. "The Empire is saved... victory is at hand!"

May 2, 1892
Kingston, Jamaica

With the London government in flux, Salisbury decided to wait until after the June election to consider the URCA's offer while Ishikawa campaigned on ending the war in Central America and winning the war against the CSA, Ukraine-Romania, and Venezuela while formalising peace with France. Kingston, meanwhile, was given orders not to send more forces to Belize.

On the French front, the West African army of 46,000 was now pulling off that front and moving down the coast to attack the Venezuelans in Nigeria.

On the edge of Albany, District of Carteria

Roosevelt's Rough Riders had arrived on the rear flank of the CSA's main army, launching a surprise attack.
